I’m pretty sure this guy is a troll lol.

If he is, he’s been at it for over a year.

Who are you to decide this?

Ok, I’ll bite. What is “PvP” about the wings themselves? If they had put them on the gem store, or locked them behind some PvE collection quest, what would make you think “OMG, those are totally PvP wings, as a PvPer, i simply MUST have those wings!”

So, who are you to decide this? It’s not like you actually answered the question.

They are not PvP wings. They are for all wings. The devs just decided to play them behind PvP activities. There’s absolutely nothing “PvP” about the wings themselves, and if PvP didn’t exist you’d be able to earn them through some other means.

Who are you to decide this?

I’ve learned it’s pointless to argue with Ohoni. If possible, he claims that it’s in the name of ‘equality’ or ‘other playstyles’ even if it actively destroys a playstyle. When challenged on it, he defaults to ‘well this is how it should be!’ When you point out that this is just his personal, subjective opinion, he ignores that and continues arguing. If you continue to argue with him, he will just make the same arguments over and over. Then, by the time he loses enough times, he’s made a new thread (here) arguing for the same things in a slightly different context.

So I’ve noticed from that train wreck luxury goods thread, but regardless I felt the need to point out his fallacy.

You know, I still don’t get what is going through Anet’s heads. If we (or at least most of us) could figure out that its not the size of the projectile but the splash particles that causes this so called “visual noise”, why couldn’t Arenanet? I don’t get how they can look at things like the auras as being in need of “adjustment” when they don’t contribute to at all to visual clutter. Why does any of these seem like a good idea to anyone?

Because the changes were specifically targeted at gameplay where that doesn’t come into play. It’s purely for esports; Colin said as much in a blog post earlier this year.

But that still doesn’t make sense, minimizing visual effects should make it harder on the esports bullkitten. Viewers will have even more trouble seeing what happening on screen, especially in regards to the auras. I can hardly see the aura zoomed in on my own character, how can a spectator tell?

Maybe this is all an April Fool’s joke and they got it in too early..

Honestly, that seems to be the only thing that would make sense with this disaster.

Visual effect nerfs is something myself and many other players have been asking for since the game’s release. I stick by wanting the effects lessened. I do think a slider would be make things just peachy.

If I had to choose between nerfs or no nerfs without a slider, I would choose the nerfs. World bosses(and sometimes even 5 man bosses) just had too many effects to see the tell of certain attacks.

These “nerfs” haven’t done jack kitten in reducing the so called “visual noise” (I am so sick of that term). Impact particles that scale up are what prevents one from seeing mobs and bosses, and those haven’t been touched. And tell me, how much clutter did the old version of auras cause?
Nothing has been improved for anyone with these nerfs.

The Greyhawk.9107

I’ve made a few posts about this in the past. “Visual clutter” is not in the player’s skills or effects that center around deployed fields (for the most part). The problem is in skills applying status effects and oversized “impacts” and flashes, the details of which scale with the size of a mob. Begin by reducing these effects first; the difference will be immediately noticeable.

Suggestions for alterations: condense visual cues such as burning down at the base of the mob—much like the “new” elementalist aura effects, or—even better—place a moving texture over the mob with minimal accompanying particle effects. This way you see the mob, and can see that it is affected by a status.

In terms of field visibility: alter the thickness of the circle line; make it bolder. Red for bad; change good to blue instead of the basic white that is currently visible. Additionally: the puzzle pieces effect as it is is minimal and practically invisible at any distance and is an unnecessary effect. Add a puzzle-pieces shaped edge to the inside of any circle texture that needs to indicate a field can be used in a combo. Do this stylistically, much like the painterly player-placed green circle for targeting to match aesthetics.

These are the sorts of changes that will make combat easier to parse.

We can’t do that, because that would make sense!

Why GW1 > GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

In GW1 you had prestigious armor sets.
When you looked at someone in GW1 wearing FoW armor, you knew that was a hardcore player that had been places, accomplished many tasks and was a warrior.
Someone you wanted in your party.
There is nothing epic about buying outfits and playing GW2 barbie.
And that is why GW1 was more epic than GW2.

Or they bought gold for FoW armor with their credit card.

You guys keep saying this, but I really don’t think it was as common as you think it was. Sure there were some goldsellers and botters, but (atleast back then) Anet did a reasonably good job of Banscything both. Everyone else just did farming, speed runs and power selling.
Edit: To the OP: Actually, GW1 was almost as much “playing barbie” as GW2 is. Especially in the later years when Anet added costumes to the gw1 ingame store….which were just like outfits are.

I was really excited to hear Rytlock went into the mists with his sword to stop the Ascalon ghosts at the end of LS S2….. yet the ghosts still persist after the release of the expansion.

It would have been an excellent addition to the HoT release to see the ghosts taken out once and for all, and have those areas reworked.

In GW1, they overhauled almost all of factions, replacing most of the afflicted with Ministry.

We won’t get that sort of treatment for GW2 tho it would seem….

more missed opportunities to make the game really great….. and instead its just mediocre.

First of all, Rytlock didn’t go into the Mists to get rid of the ghosts, he went into the Mists to keep from losing his sword. Yes, prior to him and his sword getting sucked into another dimension he was attempting to get rid of the ghosts via some kitten ritual…but that failed.

Secondly, GW1 was a completely instanced game, while GW2’s maps are effectively persistent. In instances you can more easily control what happens, what spawns, etc. and do so as is appropriate for how far along each player is in the story.
Getting rid of the ghost mobs not only would cause conflicts with newer players, or even newer characters, it would require re-designing many of the events, renowned hearts and even the dialog of several maps. Which would be a kitten-ton of work.

What you’re asking for isn’t something that’s easy to do with an MMO with (sorta) persistent maps. People go through the game at differing paces, some starting much later than others. You can’t really make the maps match up with everyone without splitting us all up into instances like in GW1.
I honestly don’t know how Anet could do what your asking for.

For the most part I agree with Colin’s post, but some of the effects are not that needed or didn’t need to be nerfed, auras in particular. Fireball for ele’s yes, that’s fine…..

Here’s the thing…changing the size of Fireball’s projectile didn’t do ANY good to this alleged “Visual noise” problem. Its the IMPACT effect that causes issues, as this animation SCALES to the size of the enemy. Anet hasn’t done anything to change that. So fireball is now the size of a charcoal briquette, the impact is still as big as it was before this change, NOTHING has been improved. Which is just fine, apparently.

I’m sorry to say that your approach was a little ..heavy handed. As the poor guy said several times, he’s not responsible for the issue and he handled the conversation very peacefully all things considered. It would probably be more effective to befriend anet devs if you see them in-game. Getting them on your side makes them more likely to champion your causes, rather than frightening them from entering the game. But I understand your frustration. It’s not easy finding the right way to explain that frustration to the person who is (seemingly) responsible. If you see him, or another dev again, try to win him over. It’s worth it.

Nope. Already tried that bullkitten. Doesn’t work with these guys.

I don’t doubt that you have, but it’s not going to be a quick process winning hearts and minds.. and it’s not up to you alone. We should all befriend the devs if we see them. (Adopt a dev today! lol)

And before you mistake me for a white knight, my goal is the same as yours: to improve a game I enjoy. I just think a full frontal assault isn’t going to work in this case. Just my 2 coppers.

Then you and I are going to have to agree to disagree, as I’m not going to change my tone until SOMETHING happens on Anet’s end.

If you’re counting the lands of the other legions, why are you not counting the lands of other humans? Because there are two whole nations of humans still out there: Cantha and Elona. Although, unlike the three legions, the three human nations do not have an alliance with eachother (and are unlikely to form one).

Well, aside from the qualifier you already mention, there’s also the fact that we have no clue what the current state of either Elona or Cantha. Its entirely possible (though not necessarily probable) that Joko turned almost all the Elonians into undead or something, while we know that both Blood and Ash are roughly just as well off as Iron.

Account visibility/location- against stalkers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

Honest question about this “following” thing: A map is quite a big place. How are people “following you” around, when all they have is the map you are in? You could be at dozens of different locations/camps/events on that map and he has no means to find you. How long does it take until someone actually shows up, if he has to search the whole map? And if you just port to a different map when he shows up, how long will he keep up this ridiculous search that gets him nowhere at all?

I just don’t get how anyone technically would be able to find you again and again when all he can see is a map name – provided he even ends up on the same megaserver map as the person he tries to “follow”.

Your point would be valid if that would be regarding a sane person, which clearly a stalker is not.
If the person has been sending messages over to my niece for the past 4 months tirelessly, even though she has not responded to a single one, then I sincerely doubt that he would give up trying to find us in-game no matter what.
And then he can abuse other chat channels trying to speak to my niece.
Or try to crawl into her life as a “new” friend joining our party on a different account.
Or ask some other friend to spy on us.
Surely, that option remains open for him even if we are invisible and untraceable, but then he would need to be extremely lucky.
Right now, he does not – he already knows when we play AND where we are.
The game does more than half the job for him.
There is a huge difference between trying to find a needle in a haystack versus trying to find a person in a block of flats, I’d say.
Currently all we can do is to not speak to anyone at all. And even if we don’t the guy knows we are on. Not talking to him, but then still present. To his twisted mind that might be a huge insult, mockery or perhaps a challenge.

~snip~

I think you’re perhaps not understanding the level of effort a stalker will go through to continue harassing their victims. Absolutely none of what you’ve suggested as an obstacle is, to them, an obstacle.

I don’t believe Shikigami is questioning the validity of your stalking issue, or making any arguement or point at all, but merely wondering how these crazies possibly manage this.

Lore questions

The Greyhawk.9107

Jennah is regarded as weak by the norn because she doesn’t rule with an iron fist.

I’ve always found this statement, which iirc originated with the Movement, to be very strange and completely out of character for the norn. The norn are supposed to be an extremely individualistic culture that generally does not have sovereign leaders the way races like humans and charr do. Of course they do have people that they choose to follow, and Knut does effectively control Hoelbrak, but overall they have no real governing body. So why the hell do they care how Jennah rules Kryta? No norn would let themselves be ruled “with an iron fist” by anyone else. Except for the Sons of Svanir, but they’re insane so they don’t count.
I honestly don’t think Arenanet though that one through very well initially. Its also something I don’t think I’ve ever seen expressed ingame, so I question whether it even still canon.

Its very plausible that the Pale Tree did something similar. Though, that may not explain Malyck and his version of the Tree…I would love to find out how Mordy effected him and his people.

You may be right, though. It does make sense for the overall charr population to be very high. Their entire race is (supposed) to be a great war machine, and would need as many soldiers as possible. That said, there are logistic issues with a high population. Soldiers need to be feed, and the charr are carnivores, which can greatly limit the growth of their population. A balance would need to be reached, one the charr may already be intelligent and efficient enough to have reached.

Golds Deflation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

Inflation hurts the rich and helps the poor. So deflation is probably the opposite of that?

How do you figure? I’ve never seen inflation as any benefit to those with lower income.

Well the assumption, in my statement, is that inflation is caused by increased money in general including wages across the board. Say someone has $500 saved vs $10 saved and average income was $1. Say suddenly inflation x 100 occurs. then, Still they have $500 saved vs $10 saved and now income is $100. The gap between people seems much smaller now. In general inflation moves to flatten savings amounts.

Of course inflation, and massive inflation usually occurs with other server problems in economies, which could be much worse for people with low income. Such problems as unemployment. etc… But if inflation existed by itself, its direct affects would only be on people with large currency savings.

In an MMO someone can survive with 0 income of in game currency, so there is not much to talk about in socioeconomic issues etc… so I am just coming from a numbers based perspective.

Of course most people invest instead of having cash on hand (leveraging items in the trading post)… so that is something else too that I should probably considered before I opened my mouth.

Fair enough.

Then I looked around and noticed an ooze some distance away that seemed excited. I realised it was throwing fireballs at me. Tiny, spark-sized fireballs.
I hadn’t noticed because there’s so many sparks flying around Fireheart Rise already.

Enough already. Can we have our fireballs back?
