Hey guys,
This trait has been bothering me for a while. Giving Ferocity on only mainhand is rather useless. Its skills dont deal high damage. Only in a hybrid setup this could have slight potential. This is what I am suggesting:
Honed axes:
Gain +100 ferocity for each axe equipped.
Just let the axe trait give more ferocity PER axe wielded. Maybe lower it to 100. Why in heaven do I want ferocity on a condition based axe mainhand?
Wouldnt offhand torch be kinda logic? Making explosions with it to make it function as a power OH?
Really awesome to see this thread. Largos is definetly my favorite race in the whole game. However I do hope they will become playable, I dont think they will. Their culture is all about hunting. As you can see they can stealth and be they thief like predator. Making a warrior Largos for example would take away their whole race identity of sneak hunter.
You don’t need Fury. Assassins armor + weapons and 6 in Firearms will give you decent crit chance.
I think this is not really an option for me (about the assasins stats) since I recently got my full set berserker ascended. I could swap my rifle to assasins tho since it is predator.
Hmm the stealth was no problem for me. I guess I should also get some better sigils (battle/energy) and stack might more often.
Thanks for the reply!
You very rarely need energy sigil on engie since you have perma-Vigor and an on demand low cool down channeled block with Tool Kit.
You have two directions you can go, direct damage or condi with engie solos. I would personally recommend direct damage since your gear will be more applicable to group stuff you do.
You can watch Dub’s Engineer lupicus record. Granted he is using condition damage build but the skills and rotations would be similar even if he was using direct damage. This will give you a good idea of how the engineer doesn’t really need energy sigil.
I would recommend Rifle for direct damage with Strength Runes and Sigil of Strength and Sigil of Force for solo dungeons.
Oh cool never seen this video! It is true about the energy I guess. I should get some better gear for direct damage. Also stacking more then. I am also getting stuck with my fury up time. Wait no fury! I dont even have it in the builds I use. Should maybe rune of rage or pack be a better option than strength?
Edit: hidden flask trait is my only access to fury
Hmm the stealth was no problem for me. I guess I should also get some better sigils (battle/energy) and stack might more often.
Thanks for the reply!
If we are talking PvE I should go with sigil of Fire and Force. As a rune I recommend rune of the ranger. Since you aren’t stacking might, might runes wont really be needed that much.
Hey everybody!
I really got into dungeon soloing because I am looking for some hardcore content. With this I do recuire some help. As most people play Thief or Warrior in solo’s, I tend to play engi (Since its my main). However I can’t find any proper video’s that show an example of how to do it. Can any1 give me tips or link some video’s?
Thx!
Speedrun many dungeons daily. Spare up the mond and buy off TP.
I honestly cant make something with this because of the next reason: longbow is power weapon, axe (MH) is condi n these dont sync well. Only for wvw zerging you could take those weapons with longbow and axe traits so you get tags.
Hey,
I have been noticing the same problem too. It even occurs when Im not even moving, just watching straight at the target.
In other things I do not experience any kind of lag. So it cant be my PC or internet.
Therefore I advice to make a post in the bug section of the forum.
Greetings, V.
Just to clarify my earlier post I was purely talking about dungeons on the stacking way (Speedruns).
In addition:
I set ranger to mid tier because in raw damage it is still outdamaged by at least 3 classes. Still it has really good dps yes. And indeed its utility is very helpful.
Engineer has higher dps than most people think and I really believe it is in top tier. However it is really hard to get the damage this high because a slight mistake in kit swapping will mess up your dps by alot.
Mesmer indeed has great utility, but its reflects can be covered by guard and engi easily. Next to that boon strip is rarely useful. That only remains 2 important ones: Boon sharing through signet and Time Warp. Since only really inportant boons are fury and might, the boon copy can be negated because a single ele can provide these max. Time warp is high cooldown making it not often worth taking mesmer.
Ps. I forgot about portal which can indeed help out sometimes, but in experienced groups not really needed.
Have a nice day!
V
Warrior: still very good. Mainly for banner.
Guardian: needed for dps and group heal.
Ranger: Mid Tier if played well(which players rarely do)
Engineer: top tier dps and nice might stacking. Offers alot of utility.
Thief: good dps, mainly required in Arah for stealth.
Ele: Top tier dps with huge might stacking and fury. Also IB.
Mesmer: Low tier dps, not needed much. Offers not much more than other classes.
Necro: Doesnt offer much. Can give nice aoe dps with wells, but CD making it low tier.
This is an interesting idea only what if it were more like a two handed focus. It would be to a staff what a hammer is to a two handed sword.
Sounds interesting. ^^
First I’d like Elixir F to not have balls projectile speed and cast time!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Nothing wrong with elixir F. In WvW u can chace people with it if you cast it soon enough, and in PvE or can to nice damage on a single boss. (If boss hit twice I can hit up to 8k with it) I always use this skill before using Acid bomb.
I already reacted with some advice but let me state the most important things: create something you have fun with.
I hope your dreamer will be useful for you!
It sounds weird to bring up this game but I think they did an amazing job in it when it comes to side activities: Runescape.
There were those awesome crazy minigames which were diverse and fun to do with food rewards. Next to that there were random things like stars landing on the ground so you could mine them and stuff.
This is one of the major things I miss in gw2. So yes, please work on this.
Hey guys,
Since there is a lot of debate about adding existing weapons and non existing weapons to classes Idd like to add another one: The tome.
The tome could function as a main hand weapon. Any magical profession could wield this (guard, ele, mesmer and necro) with own designed skills.
I havent seen any1 suggest this but casting spells from a book is like… so magically.
What do you think?;D
Greetings, V.
Hey Rabidsmiles,
The problem here is that you like dungeons mainly. Conditions arent optimal over there. Therefor I advice to find groups which are tolerant and play for fun. Also give pvp a shot. It can be so much fun! I personaly like to run 2/0/6/6/0. Taking survival skills and survival of the fittest for condition removal. I take shortbow and axe/torch. Shortbow has great utility. The evade is really helpful and the stun and cripple help you flank to apply bleeds. Also taking muddy terrain is useful for flanking! The axe has very good condi spike on skill 2.
Try it and good luck!
Greetings, V
My suggestions that wouldn’t break necro in PvP, but would fix him in PvE. Devs, please consider at least some of them.
- Horn4, Axe3, DS5, Dagger3 – blast finishers
- DS2 – velocity increased by 100%, change the projectile to leap finisher
- Siphoned Power trait – change functionality to Grants vigor on critical hits 10 sec cd ( Removed, current trait is OK )
- Death Into Life trait – change functionality to +150 ferocity to allies around you
- Furious Demise trait and Blood Is Power skill – Boons also apply for allies
- Well of Power – increase stability duration to match the duration of the well. Also share the stability with every (5) ally inside the well.
- Well of Suffering – grants fury to every (5) ally inside the well.
- Well of Darkness – change field into smoke.
- Axe autoattack – more damage, aoe hit around target
- Corrosive Poison Cloud – blocks projectiles, remove the self-weakness and add self-torment instead
- Signet of Undeath – also resurrects defeated players. I feel like necromancer should be the only profession capable of doing that, making him special at last. (pve-exclusive)
- Flesh wurm – casting time reduced to 1/2 or 1/4 (1 second is too long for a mobility skill)
- Spectral armor – also grants stability
Pretty Much this.
I’dd like to add:
Vampiric Rituals: Wells also last 2s longer.
Spiteful Vigor : Changed to give vigor on heal AoE [/b]
Signet of the Locust (Active) : Ticks 5 times, each tick stealing health from your foes in a certain radius (180/240?)
Hey Kamedin,
It indeed is true that the GW2 community is generally very gentle and helps eachother out.
However I would like to give you the tip to see from the other side of what ArenaNet did.
They are giving us a whole load of Living World, work very kitten minor but important changes and they did make you happy. Try to get out of the whirlpool of “Whining” (Sorry I don’t mean it insulting but bad English) and see it on the sunny side.
The ArenaNet team is not really big, but the community is. I bet they are working hard to make us satisfied. In the meantime try to enjoy every part of the game. Try out weird builds in PvE, go find yourself the most beautiful place in Tyria or play hide and seek. It really is possible and satisfying!
Greetings, V.
Ps. The word hard is changed in Kitten =.=
Hi everybody,
Before all the critisism starts about this thread, let me say that I have been thinking this since I started playing the game at launch. I just want to relief myself here and see if other people feel the same about the warrior class as I do.
So here we go:
Whenever you decide to invest in damage in a profession you lose ability to survive by having to select other traits and losing toughness/vitality. However in the warrior class this loss is relatively very low.
The problem for me is not their healing signet which is strong, not their high base health or heavy armor or even none of their things. The problem is that they still have those things up high when they are invested in power builds.
I don’t know how you guys are thinking about it, but this also gives the class so less depth. The skillcap on the warrior is so low because of this.
Please do note that I really do respect players that go to the maximum with their warrior and reach out to the skill ceiling, however in my opinion this ceiling is just so low.
So please tell me, how can I find any depth in this class instead of just popping over in all the faces of my enemy, while I don’t do anything to survive, but still survive.
PS. This problem is not only PvE, but also in WvW and PvP it plays way too easy.
2 things:
~ make toolbelt skills count as gadgets (like elixir TB skills)
~ better/longer boons.
(Btw protection on AED sounds horrible. I want to take damage to get big heal, not reduce it.)
A very short but important question:
Why is this waypoint always contested? Is this a bug or something in the sotry I missed? I am really getting annoyed by it.
They need to remove the sound effect in the first place. It already has a good visual tell of it being active.
This seems fair to me. Also theres an effect that shows it (Seen when you are targeted). Then there are 2 things left to polish:
- Toolbelt
- Gadgeteer combo. (SRS A BIT OF RETAL??)
A short but in my opinion important CoL change of the following effects:
- Food
- Utility
- Stealth
- Quickness
When you as a ranger use these things, the bonus is also granted to the pet. This can either be implemented by a trait or normally, not sure because of balance reasons.
Doing this will give ranger more depth (not letting pet attack if stealthed for example to not reveal your pet) and make runes/sigils like rage a bit more useful.
If Devs want Celestial to benefit the class, they should do something about shortbow, not GS.
Shortbow is clearly a pure condi weapon. I aggree it should do bit more dmg, but it is no problem. Axe MH is already high hybrid weapon. High condi spike on skill 2 (if hit from close) + AA does about 1k dmg on cele + might. Pretty decent even in 1v1. Combine this with torch for more condi or dagger for moderate condi but more survive/control.
Back to topic GS is spike power weapon with utility, sword is high sustained dps with evades. Its fine like this.
I use mace with focus and staff. Altruistic healing is good with mace symbol and another block. With focus you get +3 blocks. Really usefull when running into enemy zergs.
AED is great I think. I do aggree that the toolbelt is weak. Your cast time is almost as long as the stun and hard to land.
Rocket boots are wonderful. Smoke bomb + RB is a safe escape. Giving stealth and a huge leap.
Unfortunatly the only way to get in S1 is to read wiki basicly. I hope they will at least add a character that fully tells the story of what happend. A nice scène where much can be seen. From the forming alliances to the destruction of allmighty Lions Arch. This should be like a veteran. I do not know a character like that, just give it to us:P
No need to test. It works.
got everything I need! Thanks for the replies cele rangerrrr here i come
Hmm very well. Any suggestions about testing the CD synergy with keen edge? Best wat to test it
Hey,
Just a short question: when i equip survival expert(CD reduction) will Keen edge trait also trigger more? And will I gain fury from keen edge when I have survival of the fittest?
Thx!
No problem, Ive made the same mistake once too. Kust try to find a use for this one on another char so it wasnt all wasted laurels:)
This is not a bug. The item is stated as unique. This means you can only wield one of it. Buy the other ring with the same stats and you will see that that one can be wielded.
I see many suggestions getting rid of flanking on either #1 or #5. Please dont take flanking abilities away! They require much positioning which is very fun gameplay I think. I’dd suggest to just improve #1 by bleeding enemies always and add another bleed to it or whatever.
Wishful thinking since LB got a buff would be nice if SB arrows pierce, QUick shot breakstun and cross fire doesn’t need flanking to apply bleed and it also adds 1 sec of torment. As a wvw player i approve these changes.
Lets analyze this!
1. Piercing : If those arrows already pierced, the trait would mean that it only is useful for longbow. This would make 2 of the 4 master traits kinda useless for non-longbow users.
2. Quick shot breaks stun: A stun break on a weapon skill with a rather low cooldown is probably too strong. I’dd rather see a cripple on foe just to create better distance.
3. No flanking+torment: I think this would become too much too. I’dd rather see it always bleed indeed, but just give double bleeds on flanking. Taking away the flanking from crossfire makes it too easy for players. With the flanking you have to position really well which makes it fun.
I hope you understand my feedback about your suggestion. I indeed love to see some changes, but let them be not too big.
I guess I should have mentioned then that this is with PUG’s in mind not “experienced” groups. This way you are providing more support in the event that your group is lacking it.
Also, no. The meta build does not do more damage on it’s own. With support from the rest of the group it does, on it’s own it does not.
And I suggested that you instead do Vigorous Spirits instead of Mighty Swap if you like.
I suppose I should have learned by now that unless you’re posting completely unoriginal builds and ideas that everyone is already aware of people will have only criticisms to make. God forbid someone tries something different that’s actually effective.
I am sorry to hear that I made you angry with my critisism. I only intented to show the best way to go in dungeons for a ranger. Your build just is not better. I tought because of the title you wanted to show new players how to go in dungeons as a ranger, which is not the ultimate way to do it.
However please notice that I do like your way of thinking and love to see new fresh ways of playing the ranger class in dungeons.
So please, stay tuned on the forums and keep progressing and playing around with new build! For the sake of the ranger community!
No, that’s if everyone stands on him (stacking if you will), But there’s no need for a corner…Cornering pretty much only matters if:
a) You can take advantage of the wall somehow
b) To LoS large amounts of mobs
Hmm good point. I guess walls makes dodging easier for people since whey will stay on point then. Also ele’s benefit from it alot with meteor shower and frost bow since casting it against walls makes the AoE to land the individual strikes in smaller, thus larger chance to hit. But I get your point
That actually depends on some factors. If you run an easy dungeon with a competent team the Longbow is the better option as it’s burst is stronger and it stacks initial cripple for your predator’s onslaught. For less than fortunate teams or harder content the utility that Greatsword provides can outshine the Longbow. There could also be other consideration to be made of course such as:
sword/torch + sword/warhorn (might and fury without sacrificing sword auto or a utility)
sword/axe + sword/dagger (more dodges, ie more defensive, without sacrificing the sword auto)
And well, you get the picture.
In my opinion GS outdamages LB as burst-starting-weapon because:
- Longbow Rapid Fire has a cast time of 2,5s. In this time you can throw out a Maul (With guaranteed crit if Opening Strike), and Slash+Kick from sword AA. This in combination results in a higher dps.
- It is multiple targeted. This lets you hit multiple enemies with your maul. Rapid Fire is only 1 target.
Not that I think LB is bad, I’m just some1 who goes for the best dps. In order to out-dps the longbow with a maul and 2x sword AA you need a perfect timing on weapon swap. So if you like LB more, keep using it. Just please dont keep using it in fights with long range shot when stacked or whatever :P
@Zorby: just mentioning, cornering alpha makes it not do several attacks like the teeth of primordus. It does have a use.
Next to that, indeed explain why your build has better dps. Last time I checked the “meta” (which very few rangers actually play) has highest dps.
I also try to convince that GS is better than LB.
Why does this guy say he is the best engi or whatever while he is on ele forum….
Just check his posting history and you’ll understand
Well ye I have seen him be4 in engi forums. Tot crazy about this talk. Like it makes a difference if hes first NA engi or whatever or has no special accomplishment (like most of is)
Next to that, I just found it rather useless to tell us
Why does this guy say he is the best engi or whatever while he is on ele forum….
No. To all of this, lol.
Why? The might makes sense. Every team with experience can stack might with ele. The resr of what i said also provides more damage. So actually your build doesnt make sense.
In a good group you do not need to stack might or fury high: warriors and eles will provide these very well. Your role is to get high damage output in combination with class specific traits/skills. Therefore spotter and frost spirit are very well.
Next to that you can take off hand axe above warhorn. It’s reflect on 5 is very well, but path of scars boosts your damage a lot.
Also taking sword is a well choice. It’s skill 4 is useful for skipping. In boss fights you can open with a maul, having 100% crit chance because of opening strike. Only equip bow when really needed.
Flame trap is also a waste of utility. Many classes have fire fields in their dungeon builds and can be deployed without having an enemy to activate it. Therefore taking QZ and signet of the wild together is a better choice and it will increase your damage more.
Taking Reef drake is a good choice. It’s F5 is strong (lightning breath) and a blast finisher. Next to that jaguar has real high dps. If your is not good in providing might you can take jungle stalker for F5 (5 stacks of might AoE)
For traits you should go 6/5/0/3. In first line take Predators onslaught. With your sword AA crippling, this will increase damage a lot. Next to that in 2nd line take “might on crits for pets”. Many people don’t pay attention to pet damage, but it is huge. So as master Increased ferocity for pets. As line 4th line take vigorous spirits. Giving your team a flat 3,5% dmg increase. The 2nd minor trait is huge. When using Rampage as One, your pet will receive way more might. Also other booms are very well shared on your pet!
I hope this was helpful.

spectral armor is definitely mitigation, also punishes people spamming skills while it’s up to an extent so it might be what you are looking for.
Disadventage of this for me is that if I want to mitigate damage, I will also waste a stun breaker which makes is less likely for me to use when I am just being hit by far shot stuff. Next to that, 6s of protection aint that much :S
I found That I really like spectral grasp, but it seems a bit cluncky. It doesnt seem to be a homing projectile, making it hard to land on long range. Next to that it sometimes sais to be obstructed while there is nothing inbetween and doesnt always pull the full range.
Hey,
I happen to use this skill in PvP. 70% of the time when I cast it, it gets obstructed while it is an open field, often even without much difference in height. Next to that the pull is also very often going wrong.
Please try to take a look at this. This is a great utility, but garbage for me at this moment because of the bugs.
Thanks!
I actually think this is a good idea. I hate it when I switch from engi (Where my utilities-swapping are really different) to ele for example where I switch with my F keys.
(If I understand you well, your key bindings are ‘soulbound’ and not account wide)
Well we are lacking a lot of things in that aspect but LB rangers are not that bad. One solution is to double dodge roll at them. This will put you within 600-300 range depending on how far they started away, while avoiding their opening burst. This is of coarse if you are not using our fancy pull utility. If you need to double dodge roll at him, just go into DS and then LB, LB, LB dead..They are super squish and 3 LB’s will kill them.
I am going to try and use spectral grasp now. Double dodging is no option because I do not want to waste them for just distance closing.
However I still think we need to have at least a bit of damage mitigation for projectiles.
