I know, its unlikely we’ll see a change, but…..
…suppose the Reanimator trait was conditional based on whether or not you already had minions summoned. This could allow both MM and non-MM builds to profit from this minor.
What if the trait were:
“If you have other minions already summoned, summon a jagged gerbil whenever you kill a foe. Otherwise, gain 100 toughness for 5 seconds whenever you kill a foe. 30 second cooldown”
(Obviously, the specific values of 100 toughness and 5 seconds are just an example.)
My PVE opinion is that necros are weak (i.e., take longer to kill) in 1-on-1 situations compared to other classes, but are pretty strong in at taking on groups. The latter is due to the staff marks plus wells plus Death Shroud’s Life Transfer.
As buggy as the necro class is, I still prefer its wide variety of skills, along with dual health bars (i.e., health and Death Shroud), over other classes I’ve tried.
We’re also pretty decent as a support class, too.
No, you don’t need them. I dropped my minions in my mid-20’s and am now at 69. Much happier without having to babysit minions.
Agreed. Login should take you back to the context you were originally in.

[Bug Report] Plague of Darkness does not apply chill upon blind with Chilling Darkness trait

I think this is already known.

Are necros any good at tagging mobs / getting loot in dynamic events?
in Necromancer
Posted by: TheAgedGnome.7520
I agree with Stenc. I have no problems getting gold in DEs. Life Transfer, Marks, Well of Suffering, Well of Corruption, and Plague are all great AOE tools. You have to get right in the middle of the fray to get the job done, but at the same time be aware of the limitations of being a clothie.
Edit: I’ll generally avoid using Reaper’s Mark if there are melees trying to hit the same mobs since the fear is then counterproductive.

Guild Wars 2 - World vs World Necromancer POV (tutorial)

Thanks for the vid. Very thoughtful use of strategic principles.
I get this too just about every time I am prompted to login after being previously logged in. The subsequent attempt to login then works correctly. (Using Chrome v22)
Thanks for the encouragement. I’m still leveling but I seem to do quite well compared to other classes in PVE (although if comparing 1-on-1 kills, other classes are admittedly sometimes faster at it). Can you share your build?
Definitely the most bugged zone I’ve been in yet. To add to the above, some of the renown heart NPCs also seem bugged. Sentinel Jaggedclaw (Viper’s Run Waypoint) and Arcanist Razermane (Old Piken Ruins) do not offer karma vendor service after completion.
Probably not the direction you were looking for, but I found that giving up my minions in my mid-20’s led to a major improvement in survivability. It sounds backwards, but it caused me to focus better on killing skills and strategies. I use Staff mainly and dual-dagger for close quarters. If you are still using Blood Fiend in your healing slot, swap it out for Consume Conditions.
At level 27, I don’t think your trait choices are going to make a huge difference. This is the build I’m working toward, and at 52 it seems to be working quite well for me:

You could uncheck the helmet in your Hero panel so that it won’t be visible.

Once you go necro, you never go back!
I like Death Shroud. There. I said it.
At 44, I really enjoy my Staff/dual-dagger Necro. (I don’t PvP and I’m just learning WvW.)
My build (of course only partial now at 44):
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#MMVm0Mz0mFMvMm0MvMaf0fxomMoMb
I tried WvW for the first time yesterday (and was pretty fail at it!), and noticed that DS seemed to be like a beacon which attracted concentrated enemy fire like nothing else. Is this common or is it just my noobosity?
In PvE, I still typically use DS as the third priority (after staff/dual-dagger) for either 1) maintaining dps while CDs are ticking or 2) escape. But in a group event killing a boss I try to lay down wells & bleeds and then spend as much time as possible in DS being a cannon.

I think Necro is a lot of fun in PVE. You won’t kill as fast as some other classes, but its a very flexible class. I use staff & dual daggers.
Yes and then I pop my nice little death shroud which lasts quite sometime and the damage that I can do in it with life transfer. Honestly I sincerely doubt half of you that post here truly know how to play necromancers.
Zelthios, thank you for posting your build. I think there are a number of less vocal folks like myself who are willing to try and learn from those who have had successes and are willing to share.
So I was wondering how people feel when they use the necromancer, do they feel like me that it is “limp” or that it is an amazing killing machine that roflstomps everything?
It definitely is weaker than most other classes in raw killing speed, but I really enjoy the necro – it has alot of interesting flexibility and variability that I didn’t find with the Ranger, Guardian, Ele or Mesmer classes I tried out. (Guardian is really solid.) I kind of like having to dig deep into my skills and CDs in order to stay alive (but I can see where others would find that just plain annoying). That said, in group events I almost always come out of it with a gold level, so I must be doing something right.
I’m just talking PVE here, so if I was into PVP I might feel entirely differently, I don’t know.
Doesn’t work for me either.
If you had a necro over level 10 but were unhappy with the race you chose
in Necromancer
Posted by: TheAgedGnome.7520
Reroll. I had a lvl 16 human necro, and rerolled as a Charr. I’m glad I did.
I gave up on minions at level 20-something. Now at 32 I’m happy I did.
I just wish they’d replace that useless and annoying trait for the Jagged Horror (more like a Jagged Gerbil), then all would be fine.
A workaround (not a fix) for this was to edit the URL from:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Show-Off-Your-Necromancer/page/2#post124778
to:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Show-Off-Your-Necromancer/page/1
The latter URL then allowed me to view the thread, and have the normal Reply box at the very bottom of the page.
EDIT: However, the thread posts no longer have the edit/quote/report options; only the post permalinks appear.
Also, the trick of appending “/edit” to the original problem URL has no effect.

Rework Death Shroud the mechanic is to hard to balance around
in Necromancer
Posted by: TheAgedGnome.7520
Death shroud is a fantastic idea and IS fun in my opinion. I like the concept and its well executed; I wish the 2-spell was a bit better, and I wish the 3-fear could actually compete with other profession’s fears…
I agree with this.
Just to note: the issue is not happening with this thread, so it is apparently not a universal problem.

My level 31 Charr
Level 30 so far. IIRC: Ashford…Diessa…Snowden.

(Apparently, I can’t just say “+1” or I get the error “Message Body length must at least be 15”, so that’s why I’m putting this useless text here in parentheses.)
Level 30 Necromancer in Snowden Drifts karma vendor armor.
Here’s my armor from Snowden Drifts karma vendors….
Around level 20 the Necromancer armor set (at least the pieces you get from karma vendors in Snowden Drifts, but I’ve seen drops with same models as well) looks really amazing on my Charr – it’s the one with spikes on the shouldpads and bones hanging everywhere.
Hehe, I just got some of those Snowden pieces last night for my male Charr necro and thought they looked pretty great too! (I still need to find the shoulders.) I prefer that kilt (ok, skirt) look vs. the pants.
I have found some clipping with some combinations of shoulders (mantle, iirc) and the coat. It seems like they were a little sloppy when creating armors and fitting them to the bodies.
+1
Decrease the volume and/or change the sound.
is there any way to increase the well duration with gear or traits? because a 3-5sec well every 45sec is kinda short :/
Increased “condition duration”, maybe?
Look at the Spite trait line: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_necromancer_traits#Spite
Similar situation, except in my case it says 9/10.
Well with the well of blood, I can keep the bone fiend alive longer now unless of course it gets surrounded then its pretty much toast. I am doing the duel dagger/staff combination which seems to be working.
I like the WoB for group events, but I’ve found Consume Conditions much more helpful for soloing my necro. It has a 20s CD vs 45s for WoB, and I get an immediate heal (almost half my health at level 27) rather than a heal-over-time.
I too use Staff & dual daggers, and enjoy it very much. I like the flexibility of having a mix of tools: pets, melee, AoE, tanking cannon (DeathShroud), and support abilities. Of course, that means I’m always going to be weaker in part than some other class (e.g., pets for Rangers vs. pets for necros).
In a big solo fight I’ll often start w/Staff and Bone Fiend…blow all my CDs until Bone Fiend get killed…switch to daggers and melee…blow all those CDs….resummon Bone Fiend…go Death Shroud or back to Staff…etc.
For traits I’m going with Soul Reaping as primary (better Death Shrouding) and Death Magic as secondary (for Toughness mostly).
Is there a keyboard command to sheathe/unsheathe weapons?
After combat there is often a long delay before weapons are auto-sheathed, which slows down my running (or, as a Charr, my leaping) and I’d prefer to have a choice, if possible.
Agreed. Almost as bad as during combat is when the camera gets spastic while trying to climb and jump around the edges of hills to reach a vista. Just about gives me motion sickness!
