mesmer would win, just because the targeting system in this game is balls…. especially balls when you are fighting someone who summons adds and goes stealthed…. Not to mention confusion, and invulnerability.

Unfortunately, I’m forced to agree with the OP.

Stealth is just a little too overpowered.

Scenario:
You know there is a thief approaching…. he thinks you did not see him enter stealth and begin advancing toward your location… but you saw it all right.

You begin to prepare for the duel…

You can’t hit him with projectiles while he is approaching…. but you might be able to tag him with some melee once he is in range…

…but how do you know when he is close enough?

You begin channeling your block skill…. but nothing strikes you before it is over.

You swing your weapon, and it seems as if you’ve hit nothing.

You swing it again, and still… your adversary remains cloaked.

Did you hit him? Is he even here yet?

You dodge roll just to be safe…. he has got to be here somewhere by now.

BAM

You are immobilized. You finally see the thief, but you are completely helpless as he takes large chunk out of your health bar.

Knowing that the assault will not stop, and your death will be quick otherwise, you use your stun-break skill to break free and actually move from defensive to offensive for a split second.

Your opponent is fragile. Just a hit or two has already taken a significant portion of his health away.

You use your heal skill.

You’ve got what appears to be the upper hand for a moment, but your offensive doesn’t last for very long because the thief has once again stealthed himself.

You look at your health bar… and it is pretty low. One or two more hits from the thief will surely be the end of you.

This time, you flail around like mad mashing your attack skills that will actually function against a stealthed opponent You dodge roll. You dodge roll again. You continue to attack the air.

The thief comes unstealthed…. in downed-state. You did it!

But it was just a stroke of luck.

You were just swinging around your weapon and dodge rolling around blindly.

There will be other times when you will not be so lucky.

I do not know how simple or hard this would really be as i dont know what the code base they are using looks like, i am a software dev, but i cant imagine it would be very hard to prevent people from getting world boss chests on servers other than their home server as this information is readily available as you can see your home server is listed as such in the server selection screen. This problem is growing way out of control at this point. I am currently on crystal desert and in one day i was unable to participate in 6 world events due to the fact that i was kicked to the overflow for all of them. I should not have to resort to guesting to a low pop server just so that i can participate in an event. Watching chat at some events i have seen people talking about how they are getting 25-40 world boss chests a day by guesting to other servers and using multiple chars. This is infuriating i just want to be able to do the event on my own server and the current state of the guesting system is making this impossible

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, but you only receive credit once per character per chest regardless of how many different servers you do the event on.

If you swap servers after completing an event on one character, do the same event on the same character on a different server, you will not get any additional rewards.

I think you are misinformed about how the guesting effects a player’s ability to earn rewards.

Also… opening that many chests is completely possible without even server swapping.

I have 7 characters.

I can use 7 of my characters at the shadow behemoth for 7 chests.

I can use 7 of my characters at tequatl for 7 chests.

I can use 7 of my characters at claw of jormag for 7 chests.

I can use 7 of my characters at the shatterer for 7 chests.

…you get the idea

That is 28 chests without needing to swap servers, and there are plenty of events left to do besides the handful that I mentioned.

Though doing that many world events seems a bit tedious.

I don’t even understand WHY someone would want to swap servers to do events to begin with, unless they were attempting to get away from massive amounts of server population…. or they were too impatient to wait for a particular event to pop on their home server. …but even then, why not just do a different event on your homeworld?

I’m not saying people don’t do it, because it is possible….. it just doesn’t make any sense
unless you want to maximize your loot each day by doing every single event on every single character you have.

Look, I’m not saying that increased loot rewards hasn’t contributed to the problem at all. Obviously it has. But when people deny that guesting has nothing to do with it, that is just plain wrong.

An overflow will still be created with 0 guests present.

Even if anet disabled guesting for a week, there would still be overflows at the world events… and I hope that they do exactly that to prove my point to all of the people complaining about guesting.

Oh look, more statements with absolutely no proof yet called someone out for not having any proof earlier.

You can undermine what I say all you want, but if/when Anet disables guesting to try and fix this problem, and people still get overflows I’m going to come back to this thread and call you out.

I’m not making a claim with no basis

……….

They upped the rewards from the chests, as a result more people attend the event.

When you have a lot of people in one place at the same time, you get an overflow server.

Where/when does guesting enter in to this equation?

You have just as much “proof” that better loot is the culprit as people who say guesting is the culprit…yet all the people who say that it’s guesting are inherently wrong for some reason in your eyes.

Are you trying to tell me that people all of a sudden players started camping these events in record numbers immediately after the loot from these events were increased for a reason other than the loot?

If you fail to make the logical connection, and continue to make an illogical leap from overflows to the game’s guesting ability, then you are clearly lacking in the comprehension department, my friend.

It also baffles me how you can question where guesting enters this equation…You’re right…giving people free roam to go into any server they want, at any time, to get their world chests totally has no effect what so ever. It’s not like there is this timer website that shows the timers for all servers that people can use to see which server they could get their world chest the quickest on. It’s not like people want an easier time and guest to higher pop servers for world chest events because they know more people will be there. Yeah you’re right, these things don’t fit into the equation at all.

I am right.
People are trying to get away from higher population…. not flock to it.

Even if what you say is true, and guesting is the sole cause of this (which I am confident it is not)
Guesting is not the underlying issue/cause of the headache.
It is the amount of people required to create an overflow server.
You will have the same underlying problem even if there are 0 guests present.
(hence the reference to Lion’s Arch overflow, an area where there isn’t anything happening)

When there are lots of people crammed into one area, an overflow is created.

This is true even when there are no guests present.

Easy way to find out. Remove chest rewards for guests on world events. They can get it on their own servers. They can still come over and play 99.9% of the other content with friends. This (I think) would put this to rest if its a guest issue or not.

My experience with this has been horrible. Playing a Jade Quarry a heavy pop server already, BUT we never got overflow for world events, now we are and the lag. So in the past couple days I guested over to some light servers and guess what.. No lag, no overflow. Everyone is just putting 2 and 2 together as this started happening after guesting on every world event (at least on our server).

Anet just needs to fix this. I for one ticket this every time I encounter it. I see it as blocking a PVE event.

What proof do you have that it is players guesting and not just a heavy population of your home world players?

His proof is his experience on his server. He clearly said that he has never had overflow and lag for the big world events on JQ but right after guesting was implemented there was lag and overflow.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation

Cool you can post about logical fallacies just like every other person on the internet. I don’t understand why Miggz can’t come to a conclusion based on personal experience without being called out for not having 100% proof but it’s ok for the other guy to say it’s not guesting that’s the issue without any proof at all.

I’m not making a claim with no basis, I’m pointing out the flaws in someone else’s claim.

If i say the evil dragon Zhaitan is responsible for stopping people from participating in the events, I should have to support my claim for it to be valid.

…and while it only requires one piece of proof to prove something wrong…

You must continually defend a theory with proof before it becomes law.

So far, I have seen nothing posted by anyone, in regards to guesting and overflows, that would suggest that guesting is the culprit for overflows at world events moreso than just heavy home-world population.

They upped the rewards from the chests, as a result more people attend the event.

When you have a lot of people in one place at the same time, you get an overflow server.

Where/when does guesting enter in to this equation?

If you ask me, people are just a little too eager to point the blame at someone else for not being able to camp a dragon timer.

You mean right after they gave people a reason to do the world events?

Are you telling me you never get an overflow in Lion’s Arch?

…and if you do get an overflow are you telling me that people are guesting to loiter around in town?

When 300 people all want to do an event, it creates an overflow, guests or not.

The new interest in the world event is the culprit, not the guesting.

I almost guarantee the overflow servers are not due to players guesting, and it is just a much higher population of home-world players attending these events.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

The voice acting is terrible.
I hate the way he looks.
He bosses you around most of the time instead of helping…. and when he does help you need to practically hold hands with him to have the mission update properly (otherwise he just stands there doing nothing when he should be advancing toward the objective).
I don’t like that he plays a bigger role in the story than Destiny’s Edge.
I think that his sword, Saladballs, or whatever its called is stupid, and every time I hear him say its name I just shake my head in shame.

But the biggest reason I don’t like Treahearne….
I honestly thought he was going to end up being like Vizier Khilbron/The Lich from GW1
The guy in guild wars 1 who you thought was helping you was actually PLOT TWIST: The end boss of the game!
Treahearne fit the bill pretty well…. he was a powerful Necromancer, he always happened to be there when stuff went down (The battle for Claw Island, etc.)
…but he was just some scrub.

I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO KILLING HIM.
THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THE GAME SO MUCH MORE SATISFYING!

Two+ part names are part of the Guild Wars lore.

It would not be strange to give your Human or Charr character a first and a last name.

When I created a Charr, I used this page to see if I could find a good combination of names that I liked:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Category:Charr

My 2 Charr characters are named Blaine Burntfur and Garfazz Grimgear.

Asura on the other hand usually had one word names with double letters (Hixx, Vekk, Tixx, Hudd, Xapp, etc.)

Even if you can’t seem to find an Asura name in one word using that format…. you CAN always use non english characters….. so if you want an Asura Thief…. instead of calling him Trikk, call him Tríkk.

Norn, you can get away with adding prefixes or suffixes:
Magni The Bison, Bjorn The Bear, Olaf Olafson, etc.

Sylvari… whatever you like…. they are a new race!

Fact is, both factors play into this problem. Only devs know the real statistics. And the fact that have yet to deny it’s an issue may mean there is validity to the problem, and something they are looking in to.

That’s not how science works, my friend.

If I claim there is a correlation between the elder dragon Zhaitan and the overflow problems (he is obviously stopping you guys from getting all that fat loot), I should have to prove to everyone that my claim is valid…
Not have you all prove to me that it isn’t.

So far, nobody has even a sliver of proof that any of the overflow problems at world events are caused by guesting.

I honestly and truly believe it is just people looking for somewhere to point the blame for missing out on world events.

The overflow servers are caused when too many people enter an area… regardless of if there are guests or not.

There is nobody who will come and punish you for failing to complete your daily.

It is an additional reward that should come about through casual gameplay.

If you ignore your daily entirely, play the game casually, and before you log off check up on the progress, you will probably notice that you either already completed it, or are very close to doing so.

Even if you haven’t completed it… and you are like “OMG GATHER 20 NODES!?! WHAT THE HELL?! I’M NOT DOING THAT!”

There is no punishment for not completing your daily, and there is no reason to complain about it.

If you want to be rewarded, you need to put in effort. It sounds to me as if you want to be rewarded for no effort… (and ironically you can complete your daily on most days with little to no effort whatsoever through casual gameplay)

I really am curious why you are all so very certain that guesting is the culprit behind people being unable to get into your precious world events due to overflow servers.

You are making an unjustified leap between overflow servers and guesting.

My home server ALWAYS has an overflow in Lion’s Arch.
Would you attribute that to people guesting to my server just to loiter around??

…or is that just a popular place to be?

I am fairly confident that the sudden spark of interest in World Events (due to the increase in quality of the loot tables) is entirely the culprit rather than guesting.

If a large enough population on your server decides they want to enter Queensdale to participate in the Shadow Behemoth, an overflow will be created…. guests or not.

Blame the dragon timers and the patch…. but don’t blame guesting.

You have no solid proof to support your statements in any way.

“Well, you can’t please EVERYONE!” can excuse any poor quality item ever made.

Anet needs to stop paying attention to the crybabies, and just design the game the way they see fit.

What would your argument be without condescension?

As it stands now, the majority of people are happy with the game to the point where they are not complaining on the forums.

Most people won’t ever complain on the forums. They just buy a new game. Constructive customer feedback is actually a resource for companies.

If even a fraction of the people in the game are unhappy with something…. say 100 people… and they complain on the forums, chances are Anet will try and change something to make them happy.

No. Not even close. Example: Read about Rangers above.

Let Anet make their game the way they see fit.

They are the game designers, not you.

They will make the game the way they see fit.

Every potential customer will decide if what they made is what they want to buy. WARNING: Customers also get mad when they feel they were mislead.

I like it when i get replies like this one, because you have taken every statement I made, cut out the parts you didn’t feel like talking about, and replied to each remaining statement individually without context to the post as a whole.

In addition, its also easy to tell people they are wrong simply because they have a differing opinion than you.

With the new loot tables on world chests, there is an obvious increase in players completing these events.

Have you never gotten an overflow in LA?
Do you also blame this on people guesting from other servers to chill out in your LA home server?

If you have enough people just hanging out in LA to create an overflow, who is to say you wont have enough people doing all of your home server’s events as their respective timers pop?

Also,
There are so many world events going on on any server, that rarely will you have enough time to finish one before needing to map to another.

Swapping servers to do the same event over and over again would, at most allow you to do the event twice more (per toon), and it would just be easier to do all of your home server’s events.

Also, don’t you think that holds true for all servers? So if there was another event somewhere on another server, and what you say is true…. there were people from your server going to that event as well, essentially relieving population from your home world event.

That is where the problem arises…. the people who are currently happy with a system will never complain about it.

1% of the game’s population might feel that they are getting crappy loot.
1% in actual people, though is quite a bit. If all those people are complaining, the concern seems to be pretty legitimate. If drop rates are improved significantly, the people who were once happy with the current loot tables begin to get annoyed about how the sudden influx of rare loot is effecting game economy. There will always be 1% or more of people who are ALWAYS going to be unhappy… and if they cry and complain enough to get their way, they are only causing MORE people to be unhappy.

Let Anet make their game the way they see fit.

They are the game designers, not you.

Hello,

My name is Leech, and I am looking to join an active guild community in Guild Wars 2.

I am a current member of a guild that was very active in Guild Wars 1, however it seems that I’ve made a mistake of putting all my eggs in one basket with them in Guild Wars 2. I play the game every day, and I have over 1.8k hours logged spread across five max lvl characters.

Level 80 characters with full exotic/ascended gear include:

  1. The Black Leech
    Human/Necromancer
  2. Blaine Burntfur
    Charr/Warrior
  3. Garfazz Grimgear
    Charr/Engineer
  4. Björn The Bear
    Norn/Ranger
  5. Ulfr The Wolf
    Norn/Guardian

I am also working on leveling up a Sylvari mesmer who is currently ~ level 50.

  • I mostly play PvE, but I do occasionally do sPvP, and I am currently rank 18.
  • I have earned a total of 5.4k achievement points game-wide.
  • I have cleared every dungeon path at least once, and my highest Fractals of the Mists reward level achieved on any character is 32.
  • I have a working headset and microphone, and am happy to use Teamspeak/Ventrilo or other voice chat programs to communicate.

What I’m looking for in a guild:
I just want a large active guild that performs activities together, and I would very much enjoy it if we had access to the new guild-oriented content.

Please consider me as an addition to your guild, and contact me in-game if you are interested.

While attempting to create a character, and getting to the step where I need to give it a name… I’m having trouble getting a name that I like that isn’t already taken…

No big deal… I’ll find one eventually…. but I’ve encountered a problem.

Apparently the game thinks I have created too many characters just for failing at giving my character a unique name.

(Trying to proceed with a name that is already taken incorrectly increases some hidden counter that keeps track of how many characters you have created recently)

This is very frustrating, and I’m sure you understand why.

you wont even notice the MF on skilled players even i trash dungeons in a blink with MF gear. so its more a L2P issue.

Of course you will notice it… basicly you are tieing a entire stat + your runes in a stat that brings absolutely nothing of benefit to the team.

If you got the skill to drop toughness for mf, then you also got the skill to drop it for Crit Dmg, which makes a hell of a diffrence.

Only if your actually landing critical hits. Much like “Magic Find” will only come into play if things actually drop :P Both are gambling on actually being effective.

That is wrong.

Crit damage will always benefit someone with a high precision stat. If you have precision with no crit damage…. your precision is useless also (unless of course you have traits/sigils that apply conditions on crit. In this case, condition dmg would be chosen over crit dmg)

If you don’t have the precision to benefit from crit damage, run something else…
If you don’t have enough precision to crit a significant amount, run something else.

Why would you increase your chance to crit…. if your crits do the same as a regular attack?

There is no “gamble” when you replace MF with a useful stat. There is a guaranteed increase in performance. You can’t argue with results.

“People who don’t use the best builds are just ignorant, except when they aren’t in which case they’re selfish for not changing their character to meet my whims.”

And you think you’re helping your case

And you think you are being clever? Putting words in people’s mouth isn’t making good points. You are so caught up on labeling me an “elitist” you can’t even see anything past that. Totally misunderstood what I was even saying. Someone is sensitive.

Don’t let this guy get to you…. You have made several valid points… something which he has yet to do.

You have done nothing to support the MF gear, and instead decide to attack my choice for optimization in a party.

Except for the post I made previously where I explained that Explorer’s is only “worse” than going full glass cannon. You can dodge the point all you want, if you’re going to say someone isn’t contributing enough by using Explorer’s then anyone who uses Knights isn’t contributing enough either.

And I didn’t attack your decision to optimize a party. You can go ahead and try to “optimize” all you want, but what we’re talking about is you walking into a PUG and telling everyone what gear they should wear. If you want that much optimization then do speed runs, which are exactly what you’re looking for. What I DID “attack” is the idea that you’re going on about fairness, and I used the example of food to show that you don’t. There are plenty of other examples I could bring up too; the game is full of people playing classes and builds that are “subpar” compared to other options available to them but they still choose them because that’s what they like playing.

I’d be happier if you were running toughness.

And this comment proves my point. You’d rather a person use a stat they don’t need to survive than benefit from MF. You’re not being a stickler for what’s “fair,” you’ve just got an irrational hatred for a stat in a video game.

(As an aside, it also shows you’ve got terrible reading comprehension, as I’ve already said in this thread that I personally don’t use MF gear in dungeons, and I use a mix of gear with toughness and vit because I’m not great at dodging. But don’t let facts like that get in the way of you accusing everyone who’s ok with other people using whatever gear they want of being the selfish ones)

Basically, you’re outraged that everyone else doesn’t mold their entire character build around getting YOU the most possible gold for your time spent, and you’re accusing them of being selfish as a result. Combine it with joining a PUG and expecting speed run level optimization and coordination and you’ve got a recipe for hilarity.

I’m not “dodging any points” I’m telling you that if you don’t use toughness, use something else…. besides MF! Explorers gear is worse than Knights gear… but at least with knights you have toughness…

If anyone says they never get hit, they are lying…. and if you are running magic find in place of a useful stat, I would definitely prefer you to be running AT LEAST toughness instead of nothing (MF). …and I’d prefer any number of other stats in place of toughness….
MF < toughness < most other stats…
but here we go again…. arguing about Explorer’s vs Knights instead of supporting MF, you go right back to the same argument that holds no water.

Also, I’ve talked about MF food and consumables earlier in the thread…. so I don’t understand what you are trying to say with the whole
“Oop… looks like you forgot about consumables.” thing.

In addition… its not “ME” who benefits from this outlook… its the TEAM.

I don’t understand how you could even attempt to justify calling me selfish.
Magic find benefits one person. There is nothing I have said that is going to benefit me that isn’t going to benefit the entire party… there is no selfishness on my end whatsoever… if anything this outlook is an opposition against selfishness in general, and the purpose of this entire thread is to find a way to make everyone happy about this.

IE: notions about averages in group MF

Also, if I form the team, and I don’t like the fact that someone is using MF gear, I have the option to remove them from the party at will. simple as that. Doesn’t take any coordination or optimization to see someone running mf gear and kick them.

You probably wouldn’t know anything about “joining a PUG and expecting speed run level optimization and coordination” like you said, if you are running MF gear.

ANY team you are on is sub optimal…. but go ahead and lecture me about it.

In many dungeons, I run MF gear and die less than other players who wear PVT gear. It depends so heavily on player skill that it’s not a big deal. I contribute near-max dps in my MF gear and still rarely go down, so really I don’t think it detracts that heavily from the team’s efficiency. That said, in actually difficult content (or WvW) I run my other sets of armor without MF, but there is so little actually difficult content that it’s not all that frequent (basically this is for some specific parts in Fractals, boss fights like GL, Simin, and so forth).

Running berzerker’s instead of explorers will net you 30%+ more dps depending on your critrate and other traits.

So yeah. You might not be dying, but you’re still screwing your group by making the run take longer, for personal gain.

Not everyone wears Berzerker’s gear. For example, my guardian uses mainly Knight’s gear (or will once I finish my build). The main difference between someone using Explorer’s gear and Knight’s gear is the lack of toughness. If they can go though the dungeon without dying all the time despite having less toughness than me then they’re contributing just as well as I am.

If you’re going to tell him he’s not contributing enough to the group, then you have to tell everyone who doesn’t go full glass cannon build they’re not. And there’s no way I’m going to swap out my gear for Berzerker’s just because some random forum poster cried about how some imaginary, hypothetical dungeon run that could have gone a minute faster if I had used a different build, even though the run that actually did happen went smoothly. If you’re that worked up about efficiency then save everyone involved the grief, stop joining pugs, and stick to guild or speed runs.

If you aren’t using/need the toughness… why not use a different stat?
Why do you assume its ok to throw those stats away?

Why do you think it’s ok to tell other players what gear they should wear when they’re performing as well as anyone wearing non berserker’s gear? Since taking personal gain over group performance is so terrible, do you also throw a fit at people who don’t use food? How about people who use MF/GF food? People who don’t use the best stat food are choosing their own personal gain (not spending money) over the performance of the group. If someone doesn’t bring food and I have extra, am I being selfish for not sending it to the person in the group so the run could go faster?

Be real here. You don’t actually care about “selfishness” or “fairness” or “what’s best for the group.” You’re just crying about gear choice. Stick to your speed runs and let the rest of us selfish people actually enjoy the game.

You have done nothing to support the MF gear, and instead decide to attack my choice for optimization in a party.

True, optimization might not be achievable at all times…. but you should always strive to be as close to optimal as possible. If you are using stats that don’t benefit you in any way…. you retrait/regear to get the most bang for your buck.

Magic Find gear sends you in the opposite direction. Instead of working toward an optimal setup… you deliberately choose to sacrifice performance output for personal gain.

What have ANY of you said that would support the use of MF gear?

“I could be using toughness that won’t matter”
Bottom line is…. toughness does matter.
…and if you feel like you can get away with less toughness, get rid of it and bring a different stat that will increase your performance.

Are you seriously telling me that none of the stats in the game would increase your performance at all…. to the point where you just decide to throw stat increases away for personal gain?

Give me one good un-selfish reason why magic find is better than choosing a stat that could increase performance…. and stop trying to justify this nonsense saying that you could be running toughness that you wouldn’t need.

I’d be happier if you were running toughness.

Is it weird I was running Explorer’s gear and not dying in Honor of the Waves unless I was getting mobbed by a half-dozen Svanir/Icebrood? Or that wolfpack on the butcher path?

No.
People do the same using a glass cannon spec/gear.

Dying may be something related more to your skill as a player than it is to your gear…

…but having weaker gear than everyone else for a personal gain is unfair to the team.

The only thing that I feel should be changed about finishing a downed opponent is Elementalists who use mist form or whatever it is called at the same time they use a finisher. There is literally nothing you can do against that unless you have a downed skill that can teleport you to another location.

Stability, stealth, and quickness are all fine, IMO.

As far as downed state skills go…

Necromancer seems to be the worst off…
Your auto-attack immediately begins firing on whatever it seems the game wants to attack… and its a 10 second cast…. meaning if you went into downed state and started attacking the wrong target….. you are SOL until after 10 seconds…. (or if you burn your fear to stop attacking) The skill that you can use to stop someone from finishing you is also a single-target only….

Ranger is the next worst…
While you are downed, you have a skill that is almost completely useless. “Lick Wounds” revives your pet if it is downed and calls it to your location to revive you.

By the time this skill is able to be used…. you are most-likely dead… or have used your interrupt (which is AoE at least)… but foes just walk up to you and finish you by the time it is charged and your pet runs to your location.
By the same token…. under water “Lick Wounds” is the most overpowered downed skill in the game atm. Since players cannot finish downed players under water. you can survive an assault of up to 3 players while your pet keeps you alive.

I agree…. whenever this event chain is up…. I see people asking for help… and I usually swing by to assist…. but when the event is over…

It is very anti-climactic…

You kill a champion boss… and there is no chest or closure to the event like…. YEAH!

People always ask…. “No chest?” in map chat… and you can tell that everyone is generally disappointed when the chain ends.

You should make an alt (or more).
Currently, I have five lvl 80 characters in full exotic/ascended and I’m working on a 6th.

If leveling a character was the most fun aspect of the game for you… why not continue to do so?
