Why would someone want to DDoS a complete nobody like yourself in unranked pvp?
How could anyone determine when you are pvping and/or “doing well in sPvP?” (versus when you are say… pve-ing or not doing well in spvp)
How did someone even get your IP to DDoS to begin with?

Did you even check your router logs to see if you are being a victim of a DDoS attack…. or are you just pulling stuff out of your rear end?

Also…. even if you are truly a victim of a DDoS attack…. what do you expect Anet to do about it?

Brand new players should NEVER be given a free ticket to anything a veteran had to work for.

It completely undermines all of the time and effort players put into earning their rewards if they are just handed out for free to new players.

Yet time and time again anet spits on veterans and butters up the new players.

They clearly desire a churn and burn playerbase.

Anything nice that you currently own in the game will be given out for free (or close to it) to newer players at some point… mark my words.

…and the only people still happy with this game are the people who have only had the game for months instead of years.

Separated Random and Team arenas

Automated series of 5v5 deathmatches.

Some maps will have respawns at set intervals (with priests that need to be killed to stop the respawns) …otherwise your teammates need to res.

Winning teams move on to face another team… losing teams are disbanded and sent back to the lobby.

Getting ten consecutive victories with your RA team awards a black lion key and progresses you to TA… ten consecutive victories in TA awards a black lion key, and you are sent back to the lobby.

Scrapper in S2 was the shining example of a class having no downsides; great players could 1v2 all day long, which should have never been the case.

I do not mind the changes, because if so, I’d pull the plug from any online game. I rather (try to) adapt.

But still I want to point out the bolded part. Isn’t this the point of being a “great player”? Isn’t it wrong all the FOTM (and let’s be honest, I really only see friggin mages and reapers hopping around. Barely any warrior or fellow engineers) are bascially winning despite being bad/comparable bad? If “great players” are good, then they know how to utilize their tools properly. If this is a reason to be nerfed, what are your suggestions at sports, e.g. soccer?

“Hey, Player X is so great, he handles 2 guys”
“Fine, so let’s just put 2 guys of his team on the penalty bench because he is so good to make things even”

???

To me ArenaNet really is bouncing from extreme to extreme. I know this feeling under the shower, because I have no mixing faucet there, only a warm and cold one. Each time I open the cold water, I take away warm water, because the hose’s rate of flow is limited. So it’s 80% cold. No matter how much I open up the warm water faucet, the water of the shower will stay cold. When I turn down the cold watever however, we have a double effect: There is less cold water but now also more warm water (because the cold water does not hog the hose to the shower head anymore), and I burn my butt (-30% cold water, +30% warm water = 60% difference despite I just turned down the cold water by 30%).

So in order to have a balanced water temperature I should not just open or close one faucet, but carefully adjust both together to avoid any spikes of temperature extremes in any direction..

This ping-pong effect is currently going on here as far as I understood.

Thats absolutely not how balance works in mmorpg with 5 man teams and 9 classes.
But then again i still remember you from beeing the guy who whined about beeing stuck in ruby season 1 and then posting your build which was the trashiest build i have seen in 3 years of playing and then trying to say its good cause you can 1v1 on it.

I’m so pleased that your posterior is still damaged.

I also really am sorry that you didn’t get a chance to try that build for season one.

At any rate…. Of course that’s not how balance works in an mmo. …but GW2 is trying to be different from other mmo’s in that exact aspect.

Anet needs to make up their minds whether “every class is going to have support and damage” like they have said time and time again was their goal.

…or if they are going to keep everyone separate but equal… and give an asymmetrical approach to the whole thing.

Making 2-3 classes complete garbage at any given time and removing their viability doesn’t fall into either category.

…and removing the counters to sustain-heavy builds, without removing the sustain-heavy builds is not something I would describe as balance, either.

…but please elaborate more about how you believe balance works in an mmo… and how that applies in this current meta.

What the hell is so difficult for anet to understand about balance?

Each class needs to have the same amount of sustain/damage potential as the other classes.

Instead of bringing necro survivability up, and lowering damage….. anet just nerfed damage. If you nerf necromancers damage without buffing their sustain…. you need to nerf ele sustain without buffing their damage.

You tipped the scale even worse than it was already tipped.

If you want to have sustain-heavy builds in the game… you need to have builds capable of taking them out.

Engineer was the most balanced class in the meta…. and it got kittening nerfed…

What the actual kitten.

Everyone should have been put at the engineer’s level….

I just can’t even wrap my mind around who decided upon implementing these changes.

a 2v1 should never last more than a few moments…. yet last patch thats exactly what was happening….. and now this patch is perpetuating the same kitten…. to an even greater extent.

I’m not even going to play any pvp…. but i can tell you right now that every match will be decided in the first 2 minutes after it begins, based on the initial capture points taken at the very start.

Eles….
Necros were the only thing that could take them out reliably 1v1…. and engineers were excellent at contesting a point forever vs an ele.

and oh would you look at that…. both of those classes got nerfed while broken af ele remains the sustain king.

Someone at anet clearly mains an ele in pvp.

The problem is that the only pure dmg class in this meta is the necro… and he doesnt bring what he needs to shut down the ele by default….
If I see more than one ele on the enemy team…. I bring axe focus instead of scepter warhorn…. and nothing can save you instead of leech signet…. and you will basically kitten all over the ele every time he applies a boon to himself.

Hell sometimes i bring nothing can save you over leech signet if there are mesmers and revenants on the other team…. it literally eats them alive…. they depend on that block to wait for cooldowns in their rotation…. and if you are able to hit them through the block…. you force them to use cooldowns early/out of order…. and deal lots of dmg before they are even off of recharge.

You can kill them no problem.

Here’s a balance idea… how about you give every class the same amount of pressure and sustain.

Rather than having two or three classes ok at both.

necromancers are stuck playing a dps role in a sustain meta.

If you nerf their damage, they need their sustain brought up to be like revenant and engineer.

and if you remove their dps then you also need to nerf ele sustain and bring up their dps.

that’s what balance is about after all.

You do realize that druids, as well as necromancers are capable of teleporting downed teammates to their location, correct?

Not to mention necromancers have three shadowsteps they can use themselves.

As I’m sure you are aware, thieves have shadow steps also…. but in my experience its easiest for a thief to abuse teleporting simply due to the fact that they have so much stealth and shadowstep at their disposal.

I see an occasional person speedhacking…. and once in a great while a teleport hacker…. but honestly its not as prevalent as you’d think.

If you are seeing this on a regular basis you are either having connection issues or overlooking one of the aforementioned things.

Shatter mesmer does a lot of damage still. Other mesmer builds outshine it right now, but that does not mean the dps is nonexistent.

The gimmick now is to condi shatter…. put every single condition in the game on someone…. and then while they are still stun locked from the daze, moa morph them, so they die from the condis before they revert back.

This league system is nothing more than a glorified reward track where you can lose progress.

You are constantly matched with people who have no idea what they are doing, which means progression in this system is clearly more about luck/grinding than it is about skill.

…and even if the leagues did determine player skill level…. why does anet reset the leagues every single season….. players spend 90% of their time attempting to get to the bracket where they belong…. rather than actually getting to play with other players of their skill level.

What is the point?

Actually your teammates are roughly your skill level. That’s the problem 90% of people think they are way better then they are.

If you want to get technical… you should eventually average out a win/loss ratio of 50/50 when you reach the division that represents your skill level.

This system is not like that in any way shape or form.

There are too many factors that essentially boil down your match results to a coin flip.

People can climb all the way to ruby simply by having luck streaks.

Leaving three real tiers to complete…. ruby diamond and legendary.

Ruby, much like a like a trap in a drain, collects all the bad players, since it is the first division in which you will need more than a 50/50 win ratio to progress.

…but since the system is flawed, and match results are usually like I said, more like a coin flip, many players get stuck in ruby.

Also… since there is no downranking system… bad players who grind their way to ruby, end up clogging up the matches forever…. since they are constantly weighing their team down like an anchor.

The division system doesn’t even have any skill associated with it for amber – sapphire… and arguably ruby also.

Diamond should be the first rank that is unobtainable by a player who is not skilled enough to compete…. but even then, the skilled players who make it to diamond coast all the way to the last bracket, because the bad players who grind their wins get stuck in the starting few brackets.

As the brackets populate with more and more of the players who grind their way up…. the overall skill level in the bracket decreases…. and then the bracket means nothing.

Once there are enough bad players in a bracket, you can coast all the way through it, by smashing noobs.

That’s why its better to take your time through ruby if you have a late start, because near the end of the season, ruby will be so clogged full of bad players it will almost be impossible to lose.

At any rate none of this boils down to actual player skill. Just manipulation and grinding.

I’m sorry but that’s the whole point of PvP. You can’t always get good teammates, and blacklisting would only cause problems and knowing anet, more bugs.

The whole point of pvp is to beat a team with a bad player….. then get that very same player on your team next match and lose…. then repeat the process over and over and over and over and over?

PvP wins basically boils down to a coin flip simulator unless you are 100% premade.

Check out the PvP forum and it will all become clear to you. It’s not that the guys on your team are all crap, it’s more the fact you are being used as fodder to quickly advance the top players to their glory. It’s just a bad break…..

I am in the same spot. I know I was an average to good PvPer before Season 1 hit and would get a lot more balanced matches. Sadly since I was not here for season 1 (due to computer dying) the game now classes me as as super bad so like a lot of people I am getting streaks of 10-20 losses without any wins.

I am going back to unranked until this is sorted out and all the elite super high end players and premade teams of 4 [insert cheese build/class here] (sort of an abuse/exploit if you ask me) have moved ahead to their deserved spot. Because then and only then all the bad, average and even good players or as the elite would say “noobs” who need to “get good” are left to just face themselves to be finally able to be judged correctly/fairly by the game and then put where they belong/deserve.

It sucks, but it is what it is.

what does any of that have to do with the fact that these players (whom I’ve had on my team multiple times now) would literally be more useful disconnected from the game than alive and giving the enemy team score?

I’m aware of the quick progressing thing….. I lost maybe 3 games all the way up to the last bracket of sapphire…. and now I’m losing game after game after game because I’m getting stuck with different combinations of the same 3 or so bad players.

Solo Q gripe here….

I’ve played 10 or so matches trying to break through the barrier at the end of sapphire into ruby….

…and i am continuously getting matched with some combination of the same 3 bad players.

Can we please do something about this?

Is the game that dead at this time of day to the point where I can’t get matched with a different team once in a while?

These people end the matches with 0-10 ps (and yes i know ps doesnt reflect contribution) and a whole bunch of deaths…. since they just throw themselves at the enemy and die over and over and over and over.

No concept of rotations whatsoever…. no concept of team play or strategy….. just feeding the enemy team score… running less than optimal builds…

Maybe allow our block list to function as a blacklist to exclude people like this who clearly have no concept of how to pvp from showing up on our teams?

Why does the system allow players to be haunted by bad players?

…and why should our success be determined by whether or not you have an anchor weighing your team down?

S2 From a High-Level Player's View

here’s a novel idea….

Don’t reset the divisions.

that way, you actually play in the division where you belong instead of trying to crawl over 10k kittenters to get to players of your skill level.

…only to have the season end, and get forced to do it all over again next season.

You SHOULD average out to a 50/50 win loss once you hit the bracket/division where you belong.

and

You SHOULD retain league positioning every season.

This “league” system is simply a reward track that you can lose progress on.

…and it serves no purpose in its current form.

What does “work” mean? If you mean you can beat people you are better at the game then with it yes it works. Against people your own skill level or better you would find there are many class/builds out there that are better. Imo there is no guardian build that really justifies a place in a unique group let alone one where you could stack professions. To sum it up Guardian is still non meta.

I see at least one necro and one druid in pretty every match i play.

Doesn’t sound like a good build in that case.

Most necros are easily baited into using their condi clears (if they aren’t just using them on cooldown already) …you just can’t go balls to the walls, because the necro will give you all of your condi’s right back to you.

…and druids are pretty broken atm… (unless there is some trick I’m missing)
and I struggle to kill them with any profession.

No offense to those of you who toiled away to make legendaries…. HoT or core game….. but they are all pretty disappointing imho.

I’ve made frostfang and the predator….. and tbh everything else is just glitter or rainbows…. and that is not exactly my cup of tea.

Hell i even have my frostfang transmuted to something else 99% of the time.

I can confirm that some non-event enemies almost seem to respawn on a separate timer (which should begin when the foe dies…. but that is not always the case) where you kill them and instantly another respawns to take its place if the timer reaches its restart point.

What I cannot confirm is whether or not the enemies respawned in your case, OP, simply because you lingered for too long after killing them… or if you were indeed experiencing the bug i described above. (the respawn timer for each individual enemy SHOULD start as soon as the foe dies)

The bug is almost impossible to duplicate, and has probably only happened to me a handful of times throughout my years of playing the game… so I would be willing to bet you simply lingered around after killing foes, and their timers were functioning properly.

It is also extremely immersion-breaking to have any enemy of any kind, for any reason, pop out of thin air into existence. At least give enemies spawn animations…. and when they really aren’t applicable…. at least make them fade in or something.

HoT was a giant slap to the face….. and I pretty much never set foot in the maguuma maps anymore since all it is is grinding.

Since the expansion dropped…. I’ve spent most of my game time playing pvp…… and now that ranked is down…. there is next to no motivation for me to play the game.

Where is the balance, Anet?

What eventually happens (for any particular meta):
Everyone gets bottle necked into running a handful of different builds on a combination of professions in order to compete….. then next patch everyone must instead run a different handful of builds on a different combination of professions… which, to be completely honest, is absolutely no better than it was last update… its just different.

With this last update, lots of pvp equipment was removed…. and I do understand the thought process behind the idea.
(To attempt to encourage build diversity)

In doing so, however, nothing was accomplished save abolishing the old combos of builds/professions and creating new ones… (with fewer possible choices. )

Whichever builds/professions land on the top of the pile after they fall out of the “balance” blender is the new “meta”

You need to BALANCE your game…. in order to encourage build diversity.

You don’t just take an egg beater to the game and then say “Look, Build X isn’t overpowered anymore” ….because Build X isn’t the problem….. the problem is that imbalance is allowed to exist for so long and stagnate…. and good old Roy boy…. the pvp balance lead thinks its 100% okay to rotate the selection of overpowered builds instead of balancing them.

“These builds will be history with the next balance patch…… as it will be something else overpowered for the next update… so its okay”

There is NEVER balance this way…. and there never will be.

Fire the slug in charge of pvp balance…. Roy Chronacher….. he has no idea what the kitten he is doing…. and if that hasn’t already been made painfully obvious by now…. than maybe the person in charge of reviewing his “balance updates” should be fired also.

I think it would be a wonderful QoL addition to the game if you unlocked the ability to use Sigils/Runes/Amulets which you have already obtained in the game for use in pvp.

Would it not make sense to have these stats available for pvp if you have an item with those stats in your inventory…. or even equipped on your current character?

or you get stuck with someone who refuses to play and afk’s 90% of the game….

DUDE that guy needs to be banned from pvp…. I have had him on my team a couple times also.

He rage quits if he dies once.

did he also say some kitten like “enjoy your pip loss”

I really love the ppl in this thread.

Some people are so full of themselves that they won’t even give something a try before they talk smack.

I get comments like…

“Why can’t I kill you?”

or

“How are you still alive?”

“How do you do so much dmg as a bunker”

all the time…. but I’m the one with the bad build xD

Look at any of the “meta” reaper builds utilities….

they use spectral armor -> I use well of power

Both will provide protection.
Both will break stun.
Both will grant me life force.
Both have a 50 sec recharge.
Well of power also clears all my conditions.
Well of power also deals damage to foes.
Well of power also heals me.

Well of power > spectral armor

Signet of the locust – > well of corruption
Both skills steal life and remove boons from foes.
Signet of the locust provides a passive movement speed buff.
Well of corruption also continues to pulse, damaging foes, healing me, and generating life force with each pulse, will remove 4 more boons than signet of the locust to any target who lingers in the aoe.
Well of corruption also can not be blocked.
Well of corruption also applies protection.

Well of corruption > signet of the locust.

I shouldn’t have to explain why well of suffering is on the bar.

Not only does it deal excellent dmg….
…but it also heals me.
it also generates life force..
it is also unblockable.
it also applies protection.

Anyone who has ever played power necro knows how excellent this skill is for dealing damage….. and in this build it is so much more.

two of the most popular professions in this meta rely on blocking to bunk a point) (mesmer and revenant) they die in seconds.

Engineer and Ele need to be boon stripped and stunlocked in order to be taken down, and this build is quite good at doing exactly that.

Dragon hunters/guardians are a joke.
Necros/reapers are a joke.

Daredevil believe it or not is the only class that hard counters this build, and it will only stand a chance if my life force is completely empty, and I don’t have my stability ready once my utilities have been used.

and lol @ warriors.

…and you are going to tell me that this build isn’t even VIABLE?

I have to agree with Leeto. That screenshot shows a lot of things that are making me judge but in particular that build is unviable in this meta. Pick up a bunker build if you wanna carry solo queues. Personally I did ruby>diamond in one day that way.

I assure you this build is more than viable, and I am capable of bursting/stun locking any class down in 10 seconds except for engi, (since they are traited to go mini-me and become invulnerable) and daredevil.

I can facetank dragon hunters, and stand in all of their traps without ever even dodging.

I can also outbunk engineers, druids, eles, and mesmers on point.

It is also easy to rotate to a point where there is a brawl happening, drop the wells on the point, enter shroud, and spin to win.

The only time anything is left standing is if it is on foefire… at mid, as the point is very big and foes don’t have to stand in the aoe to hold a cap…. or if the enemy team loses the cap.

The wells are unblockable, heal me and my allies, they strip boons, convert conditions to boons, etc. and they cover the entire point.

You need to leave the point and lose the cap, or else you die. Simple as that.

Why don’t you guys try the build out.

Implying you have ever run the build I’m running. Implying you even know what my build does. Implying that me not streaming my pvp and/or having enough fanboys to copy and paste my build onto metabattle doesn’t mean this build is not amazing. Implying I would want all the necros in pvp using my build. Implying I don’t dominate with this build.
But go a head and trash talk. I’ll keep my eyes out for you in pvp and teach you a lesson one day.

Its actually a pvx guild, and the reason I joined is after playing with them in pvp, but nice try.

Hes tracking wintersday achievements.

I spend all the cash i earn while playing pvp on drinks for the shoulder skin…. and I have very little left in this game to keep me entertained.

anyway… on a related note…

I’ve noticed that when it comes to pvp…. there are far more players who are good enough to know how to talk trash, yet aren’t good enough to actually play well…. than there are good players who talk trash AND play well.

…and those players are the same ones who are quick to point the finger at a thief or warrior on the team.

As a matter of fact, I’d be willing to bet that there is a direct negative correlation between the amount of trash being talked and the actual player skill.

…and if you would like to actually try my build out, or fight against it one day, you can just let me know.

Till then, I’m just going to dismiss you as a scrub who gets owned in pvp and has to come to the forums to put ppl down….. because you are always the one getting downed in pvp.
