I’m assuming the reason why support is useless is because we’ve learned to work without it…. HoT may be different…. we may need a support role.

Feedback on beta mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Hello guys…. this thread is not about revenant, or stronghold, or any of the new features we got to experience during the beta…. but the mechanics of the beta itself.

Specifically, I’m referring to the split bank/inventory/wallet functionality.

I thought this was an excellent idea and it was perfectly implemented.

I happened to have all of my future revenant’s gear stored in the bank when the beta went live, and I was able to use all the gear on my beta revenant without having to worry about soulbinding weapons and armor that I want to keep to a character I can’t keep.

This really allowed me to test revenant the way I wanted to, and I thought that this was a wonderful idea.

There are some fallbacks to the system, however….
Personally, I had a panic attack when I took my tormented weapon skins out of the bank on a permanent character, unlocked them, then swapped to revenant and was unable to use them. I realized that I had another copy of the skins in my “phantom” bank to use…. but there was a good period of time there where I thought I lost my skins, because they were not showing up in my revenant’s wardrobe.

It is apparent that the wallet bank and wardrobe on your permanent account was copied at the beginning of the beta…. and the phantom bank/wardrobe/wallet could only be altered by the beta character after that point….

Therefore…. for players who were not prepared… they would essentially be locked out of making purchases for gear or consumables they would want to try out on their beta toons, since mail and trading post access is restricted.

Again…. I really lucked out and already had everything I needed for the beta in my bank when I started, so I am not complaining…. but I feel many others may not have been so lucky.

What were your experiences with the phantom bank/wallet/wardrobe?

Lack of Swiftness

in Revenant

TheBlackLeech.9360

Just make sure that you have the camera angled straight ahead and are not looking down at the ground as this effects how far leap/movement skills (like heart seeker) make the player travel.

Thank you, you just validated my argument. It’s not intuitive.

this is just how movement skills work…. the blast still works just fine if you have the camera at a goofy angle, you just slow down a tiny bit.

Thieves using heartseeker in black powder for example intentionally angle the camera downwards to not go very far.

I’m saying to make sure you aren’t doing this.

If you dont know this by know you are wet behind the ears.

Lack of Swiftness

in Revenant

TheBlackLeech.9360

Forcing a combination field for a swiftness is a poor mechanic.

not at all…. you don’t even need to slow down…. as someone said before use Jalis #7, and blast it with Mace 3 as you are running through.

Its actually really nice since you can have permanent area of effect swiftness…. not to mention it looks really cool when you do it.

Great for WvW…. better than staff 3 on guardian that’s for sure.

Just make sure that you have the camera angled straight ahead and are not looking down at the ground as this effects how far leap/movement skills (like heart seeker) make the player travel.

i try to play it in pvp

condi mace/axe – on paper seems good but in reality very bad.
couldnt stack much torment up to 7 stacks (if confusion is for mesmer , torment should be for revenant.
burning is too low up to 2-3 stacks with short short duration

I was able to consistently stack ~15 torment or about 11 torment and 3 burning.
with sigil of torment.

…and that’s only so low because the foes melt with that much condition dmg on them.

If an assassin is going to be a legend then no doubt he will have our holy swiftness buff.
(I kinda wished Glint was a legend)

You can stack swiftness by using king jalis #7 + blasting with mace #3 without even slowing down.

…but i would hope that the shiro legend has swiftness also.

I’m starting to think….. do our traits/runes/sigils effect the conditions we apply to ourselves?

If so…. this is a disaster.

My necromancer is one of my favorite toons…. and it is and always has been 100% playable because it is nowhere near as broken as a class whose claim to fame is a failed execution of manipulating conditions.

In the case of Necromancers, a couple stacks of bleed, vulnerability, or poison applied to yourself for a powerful offensive output is a more than acceptable tradeoff.

If you do play necro that much it’s clearly a power build; otherwise you would have known the answer to your original question. Corruptions don’t hurt as much on a power build but the other poster is correct: running condi gear + corruptions has been near suicidal since the 6/23 patch.

I’m very disappointed to see more of the same with the revenant.

Make Reflect into Destroy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

…..
Being able to “counterattack” every single attack a foe throws at you simply because he has the disadvantage of being a ranged attacker is broken.
….

But it CAN’T counter “every single attack”….only those that are made during a specific period of time. If players could generate non-stop reflects, then it would be broken, but as is, it should make the attacker pay attention. Note that ALL attack chains can be halted in some manner (moving, dodge, ESC key, etc.).

Despite what you think, YOU need to alter your play style, not request that Anet change the game mechanics to suit how you are playing.

I’m talking about pve mobs absolutely obliterating themselves on a team that times their reflects to maintain 100% projectile reflection/destruction.

In pvp, if a player shoots projectiles into a wall of reflection or feedback he deserves to get hurt for not seeing the obvious glowing white wall or purple bubble associated with it.

PvE mobs will literally attack themselves to death on reflects because their AI doesn’t have any countermeasure programmed.

so to be fair I went back to my Revenant and changed everything to Zerker. Using Hammer and Jalis, I went into Southsun Cove. This is where I test most of my builds.

Sadly the dps is still lackluster on Hammer even with all Zerk gear and Scholar runes. The AOE targeting is cumbersome and abilities you would expect to pack a wallop just does nothing. I didn’t even bother with mace/axe or Staff. Anyway, my original opinion stands. Other than the armor skin looking cool, I don’t want anything from the Revenant.

You should have tried other weapons, they’re definitely better than hammer. They’re not good, but it’s not such a catastrophe.

Also, IMO Zerker is absolutely not the gear set you want for Rev atm. Rampager or Rabid would be the stat array I’d try for Mace/Axe. Sinister would have been ideal, but you probably won’t have the mats or the time to grind enough crafting disciplines to make a set.

This is what I also assumed…. but sadly it is not the case.

I used a full set of sinister on my revenant, and the conditions applied to myself outlasted any resistance i had and i always ended up taking more damage from self applied conditions than from anywhere else.

You’re not swapping to Jalis or Ventari when the resistance is about to run out? Your energy resets to 50 when you legend swap, should be able to use Soothing Stone or Purifying Essence the moment it become available.

At least that’s how I was doing it. Start Mallyx, build some self condis, burst for resistance, then swap to Jalis and use his heal skill to cleanse any conditions that haven’t worn off, then start the hammers spinning until Mallyx is up again. Maybe drop Inspiring Reinforcement for stab as well.

Energy is not an issue…. the resistance at most lasts 2 seconds after using embrace darkness.

Why on earth would you want to swap to demon stance to get 2 seconds of resistance, only to apply more conditions to yourself in the process?

The entire concept behind legendary demon stance is not functioning properly.
(manipulating conditions)

You’d be better off just sticking with jalis.

Well now you know what necros have had to deal with for 3 years… get used to it.

Even worst case scenario…. you are running plague signet and are pulling condis off of allies…. the condi pulling only has an uptime while the signet is not on cooldown, and if the signet is not on cooldown and you have too many condis, just use the signet to get rid of them.

On revenant… using your elite skill only to have it deal more damage to you than it does to the enemy is broken.

On revenant… using a skill that transfers conditions from allies onto yourself in exchange for a resistance buff that doesn’t even work is a ticket for the fast track into downed state.

A “master” of corruption necro can kill himself in 30 seconds, while cutting his damage output in half and increasing the damage he takes.

It is very powerful… in favor of the enemy.

What does he gain by this crippling blow against him? 4 corrupted boons which will be immediately reapplied, 8 stacks of might that last almost as long as the skill cast time, and a “heal” that blinds you. Yep i’m really feeling the power lol.

Of course other classes can:

apply 25 stacks of might with 100% uptime… penalty… none.
heal themselves…. penalty…. none
use their significantly more powerful elite skills… penalty… none…

your attempt to defend necro is laughable at best, and rev is even worse off than necro if that was even possible.

How can you even try use this to justify your qq about necromancers?

You don’t need to bring that trait if you don’t find it useful or don’t know how to use it properly.

Why would you take the trait to begin with it it didn’t benefit you in some way?
You wouldn’t.

Imagine if every single necromancer was forced to run that trait whether he wanted to or not…. and reaped none of the positive effects.
That is the situation revenant is in.

Revenant’s entire legendary demon stance revloves around what your one necromancer spec, (again that actually does have some positive aspects…. and again you don’t have to have if you don’t want to), brings to the table.

One of your utilities is essentially locked as screwed up version of plague signet (without the ability to ditch your conditions) that will kill you almost instantly if your allies have even a small handful of conditions on them. …for no benefit.

…and your elite skill does nothing except make you take damage unless you are loaded with conditions…. and if you are loaded with condis you are already screwed.

There is nothing in your argument that has proven that necromancers have it worse than revenant…. because they simply don’t.

Trying to argue otherwise is silly.

Did you even get to participate in the beta?

Something makes me doubt you even played as revenant today.

Being able to extend your self-applied conditions beyond the duration of your resistance is something that needs to be addressed if anyone is ever going to use the legendary demon stance, period.

in Revenant

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

I think if you gear towards Condi, you can find yourself with good sustained damage. With Anet’s Confi buff recently, it has the potential to be seriously overpowered.

It is only overpowered in its attempts to commit suicide by self-afflicted conditions. Not that good in dealing condi damage to others, however (also, it really depends on there being noone with group cleanses around.

This.

I made the assumption that a full set of sinister gear and all other things that would stack condition damage and duration would work in my favor…. and well it doesn’t.

Your self inflicted conditions last longer than your applied resistances and you end up hurting yourself more than you hurt any enemies.

Unyielding anguish can be spammed on a cap point in spvp to cap the point. Its the exact same size as the cap point. I was able to cap a point while 2 or 3 people kept trying to get in to stop me but couldn’t.

It is barely maintainable though, and you are completely vulnerable to ranged attacks, while dealing 0 damage (since foes can’t even stand if your circle to take a hit from a damage pulse). That is pretty much a non-issue. Anyone successfully capping a point using this method must be fighting against someone who doesn’t understand the mechanics of the skill otherwise it won’t be successful.

I’m asking about legendary Demon stance, here.

Embrace the Darkness (legendary demon stance elite) Applies and reapplies torment to the player every 4 seconds, but applies resistance only once… which doesnt even last long enough to mitigate the first application of torment.

Unyielding anguish…. (in pve) it doesn’t apply the resistance until midway through the skill’s activation…. and again… doesn’t last long enough to outweigh the negative conditions applied to the player. The skill doesn’t even apply resistance at all in pvp…. which may or may not be a bug.

I’m starting to think….. do our traits/runes/sigils effect the conditions we apply to ourselves?

Is boosting your condition duration on revenant essentially destroying its functionality by making your self-applied conditions last longer than your applied resistance…. therefore doing more harm than good?

If so…. this is a disaster.

in pvp revenant is really bad
its dmg is really low even with zerk amulets while its easy to pressure him with no block, evades, immunity etc…
also the mace/axe do lower condi dmg

but its healing bunker build is good (not great) while cleanse conditions, give stability

its seems more wvw play ground

even in wvw its bad…. using some of your skills in a zerg instantly gets you killed.

Try using pain absorption in a zerg full of people who are burning…. you instantly kill yourself.

in pve one of your skills is a well-like aoe… but foes get teleported out of it…. it essentially does nothing more than annoy the kitten out of your teammates.

…and the entire time you are dealing no damage.

Conditions applied to you are supposed to make you stronger in legendary demon stance….. but all of your skills apply condis to yourself and nothing gives you enough resistance to counter it.

The concept of a class that manipulates condis is there….. but it is so poorly implemented that its unplayable.

…even if you did have enough resistance for this condi manipulation crap to work…. since resistance is a buff…. the entire profession is completely destroyed by a single boon strip.

I hope when we see the other trait lines some things are really improved with the trait lines we already have.

This is really sad, revenant is less dangerous than a single wvw camp guard. I literally just spent 30 minutes trashing every rev I 1v1’ed on pure zerker necro, without ever touching lich form or death shroud.

It has no damage, no sustain and no reason to exist. Seriously watch a revenant (any spec) try to duel a medi guard….it will make you cry.

Maybe they decided to err on the side of being weak instead of being strong to avoid messing up the regular game for a weekend. Glad I’m skipping the whole deal though, revenant doesn’t sound like fun in its current state.

I think its more along the lines of…. revenant missing its power trait line.

One of the skills we are forced to take when using the Mallyx legend is a skill that pulls all negative conditions from allies and gives them to you, granting you 1s of resistance for each condition.

This is nowhere near an even trade….. unless every condition your team is suffering from lasts only 1s.

If you pull 2 stacks of burning off of all of your party members, you are going to kill yourself as the resistance will last 1 second.

I think I’ve killed myself with condition damage borrowed from my teammates more than anything else so far.

Also…. are we still missing trait lines?

Currently there is no point in even trying to play revenant because we have no real build diversity options.

yes you heard me right, rangers…. you can down them but you can never kill them because

- pet heals them endlessly even if it has 0 HP (which basically makes them immune to anything lol)

so you just down them, they pet heal back, you down them, they pet heal back untill you are dead~

My warrior always managed to kill ranger before they could call for bugged pet.
War is a king of underwater combat followed by ranger in fact.

Necro is higher than Warrior underwater.

Projectile reflection should function more like a counterattack…. because that is exactly what it is.

Being able to “counterattack” every single attack a foe throws at you simply because he has the disadvantage of being a ranged attacker is broken.

Reflect skills should have their duration drastically decreased so that it becomes much more of a timing thing.

That being said, damage output from the reflect should be increased to be more punishing to the attacker, and rewarding for the skillful player who timed it properly…. in a true counterattack fashion.

Depending on how well the previous description functions, the recharge time can be adjusted accordingly.

Immobilize Bugs

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

I’m sure most of you are aware by now about the midair immobilize bug, and how you pretty much just go into a coma for the duration of this condition if you happen to be in midair when it is applied to you….. but this thread is about a different immobilize bug.

Forgive me if I do a poor job of explaining this….

When a player gets immobilized, if he is holding the keys q, w, e, or s (forward, backwards or strafe) before the condition is applied…. when the condition expires, he will still be stuck until he either releases the held keys he was holding (after the immobilize has expired) so he can press them again, or tries to walk in a different direction.

  • Scenario 1:
You are running in a straight line by holding the W key… when you are suddenly immobilized.
You really want to keep going forward in a straight line, so you never let go of that W key.
The immobilize ends, but you are still not moving.
You must release the ‘W’ key and push it again if you want to walk straight forward.
  • Scenario 2:
You are walking diagonally holding the Q+W keys when you are suddenly immobilized.
You let go of all the keys you were pushing.
The immobilize is about to end, so you begin holding the Q and W keys to resume walking diagonally.
The immobilize ends, but you are still not moving.
You must release the ‘Q and W’ keys and push them again if you want to walk in the same direction.

This is the same with any combination of QWES keys being held when immobilize occurs. Holding the QW QS or WE SE keys together or simply the W or S keys will have the exact same effect.

When you become immobilized while moving… if you are still attempting to move in that exact same direction, when the immobilize expires, you will get bugged.

Pushing a different QWES key you were not pressing will free you from this state the same as releasing the “stuck” key and repressing it does.

Many players might not notice this because they attempt to move in different directions, or may simply mash keys to “free” themselves from this bug.

TL;DR
Immobilize is not just broken……. its really REALLY broken.

If you had to walk from point A to point B all the time, you would really notice this.

Jade Maw Classification

According to the ingame data. Jade Maw is classified as an elemental and the tentacles are classified as wind riders.

Something not really uncommon for unique creatures in games nowadays.
(giving them a classification which suits game mechanics over lore)

Seems like the person who implemented this foe simply chose to populate the missing information with that of the foes around it since a more-fitting classification was not available….

…which is why its classification is even up for debate in the first place.

Now for the real question…
will an active potion of elemental slaying reflect this information?

If it does (which I doubt we’d really be able to test, due to the fight’s unique mechanics) it most certainly is worth mentioning on the wiki article.

Either way, thanks for the response.

Before you run off though…
Another question…..
In this in-game data…. is there even a classification “kraken”?

…what about leviathan?

Who gives a kitten? Maw is a snooze fest anyway with stupid time gating.

In case it wasn’t obviously apparent…
I do….
Hence me posting this thread.

Thank you for your constructive statements, though. I’ll be sure to weigh your response in with all of the information I’ve gathered.

Jade Maw Classification

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

According to the official Guild Wars 2 wikipedia article, the Jade Maw is considered to belong to the race Kraken because a particular user has decided to take text in a patch note to the extreme.
“Daily Fractals of the Mists bonus chests are awarded after defeating the kraken.”

…I feel as if this is simply one misinformed user who has made these changes, since the race classification on the Jade Maw article, as well as the page Kraken were created by the same user…. and he is perpetuating this “kraken” thing all under his own power.

If anything I personally would associate the Jade Maw with the race known as the leviathans (in the Guild Wars 1 sense)

Which encompasses several different abominations living in the Jade sea which were forced to adapt to living in/on solid jade.

The issue is that there is already a type of creature in Guild Wars 2 called a Leviathan. …and it looks nothing like the Leviathans of Guild Wars.

I wanted to know what you guys think.

Again here are the details.

There is debate over whether or not the Jade Maw is a Leviathan (in the Guild Wars 1 sense) or a “Kraken”

If you look at all of the pages associated with this issue, (on the GW2 wiki) Jade Maw, leviathan, kraken, (and on the gw1 wiki) Kraken, leviathan, you will notice all of the changes are made by the same user, all to make things appear in his favor.

There is even an enemy in Guild Wars 1 called The Leviathan which really resembles the head of the Jade maw.

At any rate…. I want to know what you guys think.

Leviathan or Kraken?

I guess I value an inventory slot more than you.

You do, although guild banks are not really relevant in this since you cannot store bloodstone dust etc in it. If I was a TP guru like yourself then sure I would prob value my slots higher also, but most of us don’t even play the TP so 50s a slot is actually quite a lot.

Out of curiosity I just checked how many slots I have filled with Ascended mats and it came to 701 stacks over 7 alts, which is approx. 350g worth of mats according to your math. I don’t play these alts or have anything better to put in their bags so I guess I’m sitting on those mats for a while longer.

Of course guild banks are relevant in my evaluation of inventory space.

And if you deduct from for 350g worth of mats the price to purchase at least 2 additional character slots, bag space, or bigger bags, i doubt that you would have much profit left.

Why would you automatically assume that the only reason people create toons or buy storage upgrades just to be mules?

If you run out of space…. you put your stuff where there is more space.

In my case… the toon that happens to store most of my bloat was my main when I started playing this game.

Why? because he had all his bag slots purchased with 20 slot bags in every slot.

I did not purchase all the bag slot expansions to make him a mule… he just happens to have the most space to put stuff.

Every player should strive to have the most amount of bag space across all of his characters… but at the same time nobody is justifying the purchase of additional bank or bag slots with storing ascended mats.

We bought these upgrades for convenience, and they are getting packed because of the material overload.

…not the other way around.

What if I told you….

The unbreakable shovel could have a limited number of uses each day….. like Mawdrey or the Star of Gratitude?

(After you open 5 chests you must wait until the next day to use it again.)

My favorite is when I join a team of people with 3-4k ap while I’m on my necro…. completely intending to swap to a useful class for dungeons after joining the team….. and I get kicked with no explaination…. only to rejoin on a warrior or guardian with no issue.

Don’t these people realize everyone has 7+ alts nowadays?

They aren’t even the good kind of elitists…. and don’t even have the intelligence to ask if a player can reroll before getting boot happy.

I think its a safe assumption that anyone with over 15kap has at least one alt.
