@ronpierce
@Drarnor

Both of you are right, but you are taking my response out of context.

I was responding to…

“The reason for insta-death on falling damage would be to prevent people from jumping down to ridiculous places they shouldn’t be able to get to by simply jumping off and self-ressing.”

Falling to the bottom of say…. Rata Sum and reviving yourself is one thing….

but jumping over the railing on Niflhel, or falling underneath mid on Skyhammer and dying is another.

Yes the maps you’ve mentioned do have areas where players can fall to their deaths.

…but you are still well within the intended area for pvp play.

I brought up Skyhammer, because unlike all the other maps, there is an area under the map that is not normally accessible to players.

If a fall would deal only enough damage to you to down you… it should put players into downed state and not kill them instantly.

If a fall would deal enough damage to down you AND kill you, then I see no problem with it doing so.

Some of the maps you’ve brought up do indeed have areas that can be treacherous even to players with full hp…. but I still feel that taking fall damage that is just enough to down you should not kill you.

this is pvp tho…. the only map like that would be skyhammer.

Instant death from fall damage should be absent in pvp, imho.

Rapid death onset from downed Necromancers

in PvP

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Hey guys…

I’ve noticed something pretty troubling the last couple of days while playing many different classes.

I play power necro, medi guard, or power ranger usually, and every once in a while I will come across an enemy necromancer with a completely broken powerful downed state.

I know its not something power necros have, because one of my mains in pvp is power necro… so its something with terrormancers.

Here’s what I mean:

While fighting one of these necromancers, I will always down him first…. (sometimes I’ll still have full hp if I’m on mediguard)…
…and if I don’t immediately get the stomp….
from his downed state, the necromancer will take me from up and well to downed state… then proceed to kill me before I can even get him to half of his downed state hp.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve looked over the terrormancer meta builds and I don’t see anything (other than the general boost to condition damage as well as fear dealing damage) that would boost a necromancer’s downed state skills to the point where he should be taking down players who are still on their feet, and then living to tell the tale.

I’ve asked one of these players if he had for some reason traited into his downed state skills (there are traits necromancers can take to deal more damage with their life stealing and downed state skills) but he reassured me that they did not take any special traits to do so.

I’ve been pvping for ages, and used to run circles around terrormancers…. and I’ve never ever had any trouble finishing off a downed player.

Am I just losing my touch?

separating pve and pvp condition effects

Confusion has always been bogus in pvp.

Some classes can stack a large amount of confusion while you are in the middle of an attack and you will lose a quarter of your health instantly before you even get a chance to react.

The mechanic behind confusion never even gets to see daylight…. half of the time you already took a huge chunk of damage before you even saw the condition appear in your effects bar…. and that is while actively monitoring it.

It should be as you say…. wait patiently for confusion to go away, or choose your moves wisely, because they come at a cost….. but that rarely happens in pvp.

The effect of the condition should be delayed imho, and its duration should be lengthened. You should not be able to take damage from confusion until after having it applied for at least a second. That way you don’t get slapped with a stack of confusion in the middle of an attack and get insta gibbed.

insta-dead falling damage?

in PvP

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

The game will skip downed state and you will immediately die if….

A) you take fall damage and it would have put you into downed state

B) you somehow manage to get downed midair or launched off an edge in down state, and take any fall damage whatsoever while already in downed state.

The second one is fine with me… but the first one is a bit annoying at times.

I really think the functionality should be altered a tiny bit….. but the problem lies in the fact that players still need to be able to fall to their deaths.

Sure it seems silly to trip over a curb and die….. but it would also seem silly to survive a fall that should have killed you by simply entering a downed state.

The developers chose the easy way out instead of trying to find a happy medium ground, and this is what we ended up with.

Condis and Objects

Every object in the game would have to be set up for this to work.

You can’t poison a weapon rack.

You can’t confuse a weapon rack.

You can’t blind a weapon rack.

You cant bleed a weapon rack.

You cant stun a weapon rack.

etc.

Someone’s going to have to set immunities to every single object in the entire game…. unless of course they just do the lazy thing and allow all the conditions in the game to affect every object…. which would be really dumb imo.

Have fun trying to kill the enemies in HoT with PPF gear.

The only thing that is undecided is the sigil of torment for the mainhand weapon might get replaced with a sigil of generosity, but it is too early to tell if it will be worth the high sigil price. (The revenant applies torment to itself also, so it might be a good way to stack extra torment…. but the sigil costs 100g…. so i don’t know if its worth it)

Upcoming Movement Skill Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

I see this a more of balance than anything.

Currently, warriors have two options for pvp and wvw.

Mobility set, (which is sword warhorn and greatsword…)
and then their dps set….

One or the other, meaning they are set for mobility OR dps…. not both.

Almost all the other classes, particularly thieves, do not sacrifice any damage potential to keep their mobility.

This is a much needed balance, because warriors have been reduced to bunkers in pvp instead of offensive players.

…and many players get really defensive over any sort of suggested alteration to their class that could be viewed as negative… so the only other option is to go along and boost the classes that aren’t up to speed. (no pun intended)

This is going to help DPS warriors become more viable in pvp….. but I’m afraid that warriors who still choose to run mobility are going to turn into something broken.

If these changes really are implemented, warriors running mobility sets are going to become uncatchable… and they will become the new thieves…. where they come in and bother you and then just leave when they get in over their head.

YEEAAA BALAANCEE!!

That seriously does not justify to have something as broken as Slick Shoes in game.

Without warning, they are running through you with slick shoes active.

There is rarely an occasion where an engineer is using this defensively.

Guess what?

I had no idea anyone was even farming in Bloodtide Coast….
…and I’ve always known about the maize balm farm.

That should tell you how much of an effect it has on the average player….. (next to none)

The only reason I ever even cared about people farming maize balm was a while back when I was hoping that the poly-luminescent undulating refractor that I got would increase in price before I sold it.

I don’t care what others do to make money, and neither should you….. unless for some reason you are seriously invested in halloween items…. in which case its your own fault for setting up a bad investment.

The entire playerbase benefits from the maize balm farm, since it keeps candy corn prices (and therefore candy corn cob prices) low…. makes it great for everyone to get 20-slot bags for cheap.

Leave the farmers alone.

I’d personally like to see slick shoes toned down a bit…

The puddles on the ground should be gone by the time you have slipped and recovered from your first slip.

Slipping, getting up, slipping, getting up and slipping again is broken.

…and it tears right through stability like you didn’t even have any on.

i feel like you don’t understand the purpose of the slick shoes. your nerf would gut the skill and make it a single knockdown.. a single knockdown as a utility skill.

Yeah you are right a utility skill that only gives one interrupt is absurd….

Like Bull’s Charge
or
Kick

Clearly those should skills should be buffed so they if they connect, they continuously knock you on your backside for 8 seconds, also…. oh and don’t forget to make them disregard any stability your foe had..

if you want to make slick shoes as bad as kick then it needs more than a 25sec cd reduction. not to mention nobody even uses that awful skill. comparing it to bulls rush shows you don’t understand the skill, and im not even going to bother explaining.

you can dodge out of it, and you can port out. you can stunbreak then dodge out too.

I think you missed the point.

Slick shoes needs a nerf… badly.

The reason you suggested to defend the skill from nerf doesn’t hold any water..

“make it a single knockdown.. a single knockdown as a utility skill”

I wanted to show you there are other utility skills in the game that are exactly that ( a single knockdown as a utility skill) and really pale in comparison to slick shoes.

The skill has always been really strong…. but it has been completely broken ever since the changes were made to stability.

We need more counterplay to Thief Stealth

I think I even saw someone say pistol 5 is OP….

All this is now is kitten session about thieves from people who obviously need to l2p.

I’m one of the people who believe thieves’ stealth needs to be nerfed, and I’ll duel you any day of the week to prove that i don’t need to learn to play.

u can’t kill a theif who dosen’t want to fight is that what u want to change ?

Its more about thieves bailing from a fight that they should have died in by abusing stealth’s defensive capabilities….

Forcing players to win a guessing game to get a kill, without even sacrificing damage potential is absurd.

I just want the guessing game toned down a bit.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Lets-talk-about-Stealth/first

It really is L2P issue. Yeah you’ll beat him, what will you prove? You’ll prove that thief is not the solution for every build and you are too thick to realize that.

Stealth has been nerfed (revealed) since launch. Currently the revealed buff lasts full auto-attack chain. Buffing it anymore would be ludicrous.

Channeling skills are following thieves in stealth. Homing skills (like guardian’s blinding blade) are perfectly capable at pinpointing the thief’s location. Fire/Air procs show exactly where the thief is in stealth, while the thief is taking damage. So don’t tell me its god mode/invulnerability.

As a thief myself I’ve probably been killed in stealth more often than I have been killed while revealed. However sometimes i get lucky port and manage to heal up in my downed state before you guys notice im down

Evidently this is a L2P issue. Every skilled player I fought and lost against has been able to trace me with relative ease.

And if you don’t have a thief and you haven’t played in the recent months, just quit this thread. You know jack about thief. To all of you I can only say “try hards”.

Again…. you are barking up the wrong tree here.

Stealth as a mechanic is used to make players unsure of where you are.

If players could easly tell where you are, stealth would be pointless.

Think about what I just said. It is not possible for you to accurately predict where a stealthed opponent is 100% of the time or else stealth simply would not work.

What I want personally is the defensive guessing game aspect of stealth to be toned down.
I have nothing in line with the OP’s suggestion other than the fact that stealth, particularly with thieves, needs to be tweaked.

…just something as simple as showing damage numbers when you strike a stealthed opponent.

Why are players forced to play guessing games to ensure a kill?

Also, I know about many ways to spot stealthed opponents.

I just want the dmg splash for melee attacks to show up.

If you swipe a melee weapon at a stealthed opponent, and you hit him….. you are going to deal that damage whether or not numbers show up.

If it is an auto attack, you can tell if you struck something based on your auto-attack chain progressing, for other attacks you will be building adrenaline on warrior or watching your justice effect rise on guardian, if you hit a stealthed opponent with a fire or air sigil, you can see the sigil proc at the opponent’s location, etc.

In all of these cases, having a damage splash would change nothing for a player who knows where to look.

This is not a l2p issue, and anyone spouting off that nonsense is too afraid that “their precious” might be in need of a nerf.

I am happy to see you you standing up for what you believe in, OP.

I’ve made a thread discussing stealth discussing a potential way to bring balance to the mechanic, without hurting anyone or anything in any way.

…and still there is a huge uproar from thieves everywhere who rely on their stealth cushion to play pvp.

Just like in lord of the rings, you can’t part the guy from his invisibility ring, or else he gets all crazy and starts yelling my precious and kitten.

Thieves are the same way with stealth.

They get legitimately scared, because they are afraid of no longer being functional.

The defense aspects of stealth are in need of some balance…. not every class can retreat from a fight when they get in over their head without sacrificing some damage potential.

A warrior for example would need to have a different weapon set on if he wanted to have even remotely as much mobility and escape capability, and he would be sacrifing most of his damage potential in doing so.

All in all, I think your suggested nerfs are somewhat unwarranted, and some of what you have suggested will break stealth and make it unusable.

Since thieves pretty much rely on it, you are talking about breaking an entire profession.

While I do agree stealth is in need of some minor tweaks to tone down its defensive capabilities, I think you are trying to give someone a haircut with a flamethrower here.

Does crafting ever INCREASE value?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

Players set the prices for items.

The reason why the end results are usually cheaper than thematerials is because
1) Some players need to buy the mats for crafting themselves. They gain crafting XP from converting ore into ingots, and ingots into axe blades, and axe blades into axes.
You can’t get any xp from an axe that has already been crafted.
2)Just because it costs a certain price to make an item doesn’t mean the item should cost that price. If it is cheaper to craft a lvl 70 rare than it is to craft a lvl 50 green item, guess what? Your green item is still garbage.

Requests for Exclusive Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Greetings,

I would like to make a couple small suggestions/requests to make available a couple of exclusive skins that are not obtainable to my knowledge other than through the trading post (for exorbitant, but certainly worthwhile prices). I have been playing since beta, and I would love to finally own the Chainsaw Greatsword halloween skin, and the Decorative Molten Jetpack. I was here for the events myself but never had the luck of getting the Jetpack to drop in the Molten Facility, or get the Greatsword in the Black Lion chests during Halloween. I saw that for 2014 there was a chance to raffle from a skritt and receive the greatsword.

May I ask for all of us out there, to please add the Molten Jetpack and the Molten Berserker mini to the Molten Fractal as low chance to drop from the Fractal chest?

And please for this halloween, can there be chances for the Chainsaw Greatsword skin from a black lion chest.. just like before? Perhaps with a lesser chance to drop?

Thank you from a wishful charr who really needs to look great, charr-style,
Bathea Havocbringer

Nope.

These items were always rare…. unless you were super lucky and got one as a drop, you had to buy it from the TP like everyone else.

During the first halloween event, I did not get a greatsaw and had to save up every cent I earned for an entire month to be able to purchase one (and that was immediately after the event ended).

With the current inflation in the game, it would probably take you the same amount of time to get the skin today.

These items have always been on the trading post, and have always been expensive, and simply because you want them does not mean the game bends to your wishes.

Is SW still the best way for obi shards?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

after two weeks of “casual” SW farming i had so many obi shards that i actually needed to toss a stack of 250 out of my bank and my crafting tab holds 500 units per stack…so do with that what you want.

thanks everyone. Just curious what do you mean by casual bc that means different things to different people. Like 1-3 hours a day? 30min? Very thankful for the answers and glad I didn’t miss out on the farm.

well usually i just did the vinewrath run with fortress defence followed by the chestrun that usually happens right after the wrath and then jumping to the next instance to repeat the progress…or stayed if the people wanted to go for another wrath. Did that 2 to 3 times a day and now i got so many obi shards that i dont even know anymore what else to do with them. Actually.. now that i talk about it i sorta think i should start doing that again.

also the time varies at the SW stuff.. but you can count for 30-45 mins depending on how the people work together and protect the forts and fight the wrath and stuff

Yeah I just did a few runs and got about 30 shards or so and 100 of those nice loot bags. Just curious these people who claim to make several hundred gold doing this, is that farming all day or several days or just a few runs? lol. Also to make that much i’m assuming they selling golds/exotics if above the ecto rate but are they selling greens and such too or just salvaging for mats/luck? I’m assuming sell the greens bc that’s a lot of gold.

I needed to get 1000 crests to buy an ascended accessory from the vendor…

I had just spent all of my money on tormented weapon skins and had less than a gold when I started farming.

In the time it took me to get those 1,000 crests, I had 14g cash in my inventory.
(I’ve been selling my blues and greens since I have no need to salvage for luck essences)

The accessory cost 10g + 1,000 crests and like a kitten, I bought the wrong one.
(i bought an amulet instead of an earring)

I had 4g in my inventory after the purchase.

So i farmed another 1,000 crests and when I finished I ended up with 21g in my inventory….. bought the earring for 10g and 1,000 crests…

and when I went to check the bank, I found I had also earned over 60g in t5+t6 mats ectos (from salvaging rares) and charged cores (from the champ bags).

This was about 4 hours of farming total. for about 90g

As for the OP, I sure would like a cosmetic only beastform with weapons for my norn. But then this is ANet we’re talking about, so it’s too much work.

It doesn’t hurt to voice your opinion, though.

Anet is listening… whether or not they choose to do anything is completely up to them.

Several NPCs do it actually. Norn enemies and bosses tend to transform. (Not ones that are subset of specific other enemies, like risen norn or Atherblade norn, though)

That said, Going beast form and KEEPING all the class and weapon skills seems like an interesting compromise between lore and gameplay (Making shapeshifting solely cosmetic) but the problem is that really only works for bear form. You can make Bear hold weapons, but other animal forms, like say Leopard, would have some issues.

Same goes for all the other races really. I get WHY Anet made racial skills as a whole useless, but it’s really disappointing.

Its got opposable thumbs…. it can wield weapons.

Why not have both?

I was hoping you would have said that what they did to the Norn was unbearable.

It is…
I can barely stand it.

After playing through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, I had fallen in love with the Norn.

Everything about them was great.

They were a race of shapeshifting giants, who all sought out to be great hunters, and revered the spirits of nature.

I understand that Arenanet does not want any races to be any better than the next in Guild Wars 2…. but I am extremely disappointed in the watered down version of this race that appears in Guild Wars 2.

Racial elite skills have, of course, taken a back seat to the elite skills available for each of the different professions. It comes as no surprise that all of the Norn’s racial elites are unusable due to their lack of practicality, and with it goes the Norn’s claim to fame, the shapeshifting.

Not only that, but even if a player were to go against the grain and use the elite skill to shapeshift, it would only last a measly 30 seconds… then go on cooldown for a full four minutes. Which is very different from that of the Norn in Guild Wars:Eye of the North which lasted for an entire minute and recharged after two minutes of being cast …. meaning Norn spent an equal amount of time in combat as a beast and as a humanoid.

We are unable to use our weaponry or armor in Bear form in Guild Wars 2, and we are just a naked beast swiping at foes with our claws….. which is not what the Norn ever did. They continued to use their armor and weapons even while transformed.

Would it be out of the question to simply grant Norn players a soulbound “tonic” upon creation that allowed free (solely cosmetic) transformation in and out of animal form?

Even if we just got a generic beast-mode model (that was not dynamic to what our characters were wearing) as long as it was wearing some armor and wielding weapons, I would be happy.

Thanks for reading.

no i was saying the destroyers were fighting against the ettins

Ohhh. Well, destroyers are Primordus’ only minions, and they aren’t corrupted creatures. They’re created by that dragon, in shapes similar to normal creatures (which is why they look like trolls or harpies or crabs).

Honestly, that is really more because Anet reused existing creature rigs (troll, harpy, crab) without giving them unique names or features.

Destroyers in GW1 were much more diverse and not based on any existing animals or races. They were much more abstract, insect-like creatures than we have now.

…yeah but he is technically right…. Destroyers are hatched almost

why they look like other creatures is like you said though

Without beating a dead horse too much in this thread…

If anet wants to go with the expansion pack every so often delivery method, I would hope that we will see an expansion every two years instead of every three.

The Living World stuff was okay….. but it was just not enough content often enough to keep players entertained.

Switching from the Living World model…. to the expansion model….. simply by damming up a bunch of Living World releases is not what anyone asked for.

Living world had its place….. to hold us over until an expansion arrived….. and Anet completely undermined its purpose by halting it completely to work on an expansion.

World of Warcraft has this thing called Figureprints.

That would be totally cool… though with the amount of detail that goes into GW2 characters, as well as customization…. I don’t think it will ever become a reality.
