The Answer:
Disappointment.

Is gw1 still worth buying?

Apples and oranges. The games can’t even really be compared.

GW1 – CORPG …cant really solo much yet it still promoted anti-social behavior (through the usage of heroes and henchmen), lots of repeatable endgame content. Korean style RPG….. no jumping…. everything is instanced. insane amounts of build diversity/synergy. Teams have set roles for every player/hero. Quests and missions. No account bound loot, so you can farm for and then sell rare drops that you don’t want to other players for $$$

Gw2 – MMO …can solo lots of things but promotes social behavior, little endgame content. American style, almost a “true MMO” (still instanced) No quests or missions…. personal and living story, and renown hearts. Nobody has a real role on the team (unless you are speedclearing). Most rare loot that you don’t want ends up in the trash because its account bound.

Alts of the same class. Your reasons why.

I’ve got one of each profession…. and doubles of warrior guardian and mesmer.

Aside from the obvious advantages of being able to character swap to swap PvP builds extremely quickly…. I do have my reasons.

I have two warriors, primarily because I created frostfang and my existing warrior at the time was fire-themed…… so I created an ice-themed one to use the axe.

After a while each warrior has adapted different playstyles… one warrior has a super-leet pro dungeon speedclear setup…. and the other is for general pve fun and pug dungeons and fotm.

Both warriors are charr, and i must say “charr warrior master race.”

Two guardians… because my first guardian was a strong independent norn who didn’t take any guff from anybody….. and ran in full PvT gear. While PvT gear really is a joke in my opinion (you really fall short in the damage department) I literally could not be killed by anything either…. and I just could not shake wanting to be a full-support class, when faced with the zerker meta.

I created a secondary Guardian to be full berzerker, and because I wanted a human guardian, and I still enjoyed playing guardian and wanted to actually contribute to the team effort in dungeons and fotm.

…and now that there are nomad’s stats I aspire to have a full ascended nomad’s set on my norn guardian…. just to see if I can push this “there is no trinity” thing to its limit.

I do find the full nomad guardian useful/fun in some aspects…. I can literally solo the HotW path1 dungeon…. it just takes ages. (and this is without a completed nomad’s set)

…then we get to my two mesmers…. at the time mesmers had a place on every team “Timewarp OP” so I figured if I was going to continue making doubles of professions that mesmer was going to be the one to choose. What a mistake…. I don’t play on either of my mesmers any more…. having two is completely pointless.

Nobody even wants them on the team.

…..ele will be next…. but I think I’ll hold off on making another double till after I make a Revenant.

Necromancer help c:

Necromancer is a great class for PvP.

There are two builds that are commonly used in sPvP atm; Power Necro and Terrormancer.

Power necro is a very useful build for beginners because there are lots of traits and skills you can choose from to “fine-tune” the build to your playstyle.

You are pretty squishy, but depending on how well you are doing you can add/remove aspects of the build to make you more resilient or do more damage.

Search Power Necro or Terrormancer in google and you will probably find builds.

Necromancers are also great in WvW.

As far as pve goes, the Necromancer is great at applying conditions, but does not really excel in other areas. Sure you can run a build where you are glass cannon so that you can pump out decent damage, but you will always be in the shadow of the elementalist and warrior when it comes to burst/sustained dps.

You can still participate in dungeons on a necromancer, but you will find that most experienced groups would prefer a class that is best at what the team needs.

While a necromancer will be able to provide some utility such as blinds and do decent AoE damage, a thief for example, brings blindness, damage, and stealth to the table….. so it is not hard to see which profession the team would rather have.

Don’t be discouraged. Arenanet is working on changes to pve and hopefully condition damage will have a place in future dungeon rosters, but for the time being Necros are “good” at some things but not excellent…. and the one thing they are excellent at, really doesn’t have a use yet for PvE.

Effects of Knockdown and immobilize lingering

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Okay so ive tested this thoroughly….. and the best place for players to test it themselves is at Apostate Waypoint in Fireheart Rise…. and head east till you find several canyon spiders.

Attempt to run by them while moving in a straight line (either straight forward, backward, or diagonal) to get immobilized and you will find that if you continue holding down the directional keys when the effect ends, you will be stuck in place until you change direction.

This works with one or more directional keys, and with autorun as well and the exact same bug happens with knockdown.

Doesn’t it take 72 hours to get the first vault, guild stash, up and available? If you start the guild upgrades going as soon as the guild is made then your restrictions should end and the guild stash should be available at the same time. If the guild is only 48 hours old, unless you spent a lot of gold buying influence to speed it up, then you can’t access it anyway, as it’s not there to access.

bought a lot of influence

…and yeah to those who ask… its not that big of a deal… but I mean what is the purpose of preventing the guild leader from using his own guild bank?

What if the guild leader is a gold seller? This is exactly what these restrictions are about, keeping gold sellers from making guild vaults quickly as and using it to move gold around.

If only one person, ie the guild leader has access to the bank, how would he be moving anything around to anywhere but his own account?

1) Make guild
2) Build vault
3) Deposit gold
4) Invite buyer to the guild
5) Make buyer the guild leader
6) Seller leaves the guild

even so…. it just seems to be a bit excessive for such a little gain.

Do you not think that these goldsellers who would use this method have hundreds of accounts creating guilds every day?

…and that the guilds they started three days ago will have guild banks pop today, and the ones they started two days ago will have guild banks pop tomorrow, the ones they started yesterday will have guild banks pop the day after tomorrow?

It doesn’t really hinder anything. Its over-policing that doesn’t really even fix the problem.

Is anyone else having issues with the effects of knockdown and immobilize lingering after the effect should have ended?

This has happened to me far more times than I can count in the last two days, and it seems to happen more often when I am holding down one or more directional keys when the effect is applied.

Even after using stun break or instant-cast condition removal skills (or a combination of the two) I am still unable to move my character.

update: The lingering effect occurs when you are holding down keys when the effect should be removed…. not when it is applied.

TheBlackLeech.9360

How can this imbalance have been allowed for so long? And when will it be fixed?
This is crazy!

There’s nothing to “fix” here. It’s supply and demand. Economics 101. Because Damask is needed for every kind of ascended armor, it is in much higher demand, and thereby has a higher price. While it does have to do with the changes made to the recipes involving silk, and the unreliable way of gathering cloth, ANet can’t just tweak these things whenever people are unhappy. The current system is working rather well.

even though the economy is what sets the prices in the game… anet should really step in and give us more cloth…. or implement more leather and metal sinks.

Currently players who want to fully gear a light armor class are at a disadvantage because of the price difference, and something should be done to try and balance things out.

Last wintersday, the price of cloth dropped and metals went up…… but it was only temporary.

We need to see more events like this if light armor classes are ever going to see a fair price for ascended armor.

Players with Titles: YOUR impression(s)?

  • Favorite unlocked title: GWAMM (“God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals”)
  • If I could have any title I would still wear the GWAMM one.
  • I used to genuinely respect other players with the GWAMM title, because we share a common gaming history and it likely means they have been around for a while. I’ve said “used to” because currently I can no longer tell who got the title legit and who did not due to a still unresolved bug.

This

  • I dislike getting into a PvP match and seeing titles on my teammates that are not PvP related, and are not even challenging to get as far as pve goes.
    (Combat Medic…. cringe)
  • The game needs consumable titles like GW1 had

I try and put the tools with a certain theme on characters which go well with the theme.

The watchwork mining pick would be the only exception since you get sprockets for gathering, so it would be the best pick if you aren’t trying to match themes.

Because they change the way additions are coming to you instead for free you need to pay for the whole lot you are getting in the future. (It’s basically buy to play x2)

…and we are supposed to be happy about this change to the content delivery method?

…give Anet praise?

How can you almost reiterate the exact point I’m trying to make, state it as fact, but when I express my opinions/concerns about said point, you pretend like what I am saying is invalid and doesn’t make sense?

I wouldn’t say your point that you need to pay for something makes you unhappy is invalid. I can absolutely understand that it’s a disappointment that for some of these features that have been promised for a long time now are part of a paid expansion. But its not entirely surprising, unexpected or otherwise a wrong thing to do by any company. IT IS in fact content you want to see in the game.

Also, because previously they have been very ambitious with telling what they want to make for the game, it might be worth noting that they currently are being very careful with what they are telling. We literally know the base core features but not any details nor anything beyond that. I think they realise it’s a mistake to come out with promises, as some of us will not realise that when creating something not all the plans will immediately come to fruition or in the time frame they set out to be. (not something I like either, but it is a sad fact)

I would have no problem paying for an expansion, and would have totally looked forward to it, if they had simply continued to give us living story in the meantime.

I dnever expected the expansion to be free, and I 100% have been sitting and waiting with my wallet to buy the expansion….. but like I said, If I’m going to pay for additional content, I’m going to be extremely disappointed if it turns out to just be a bunch of dammed up Living Story releases.

I’m one of the people who have been playing GW1 since launch…. and I’ve been dying for a huge content release in the form on an expansion for GW2, just because I have nothing to do.

There is a serious lack of content for GW2 and cutting off Living Story to pave the way for the xpac is not what myself or anyone has asked for.

If Anet delivered Xpacs instead of Living Story releases from the start, we probably would have had an expansion every year, Like we did with Gw1.

I’ve been starving for content for so long, and the LS just doesn’t cut it.

An expansion is what this game truly needs…..
…but turning off the Living Story in the meantime is not what it needs.

…and withholding new content releases, then giving those same releases to us in a bundle with a price tag is not an expansion…. its a joke.

Anet: Okay, we will give you an expansion -Works on expansion-

“We don’t want expansion because it’s just LS combined”

o.o

Except that’s a huge fallacy.

An expansion should not just be an equivalent of combined living story episodes. We get those for free… and the expansion has a price tag associated with it.

Why would anyone be anything but the opposite of happy about getting the same thing they were already getting for free with a pricetag slapped on it?

OH YES! PLEASE CHARGE ME FOR THE THINGS I’M ALREADY GETTING FOR FREE!
WHERE CAN I SIGN UP!

If I give you a free apple every day for 100 days, you will have 100 apples on day one hundred at no cost to you.

If I give you nothing until day one hundred, then give you 100 apples and then charge you for them. You will have your 100 apples just the same…. but you had to pay for them.

which is better?

If Anet would have delivered a paid expansion in addition to the continuation of the Living Story, it would have been praised by all.

Nobody wants to pay for something they are already getting for free unless they are a fool.

Revenant (or ele) and weapon swap

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

TheBlackLeech.9360

Again…. this changes nothing…

If a warrior is using sword warhorn and his warhorn builds bloodlust….

Then he swaps to his greatsword….. and unequips it for a longbow…

He will still have his bloodlust stacks because he never unequipped his warhorn in his alternate set.

There is no reason to believe that sigils play any role in this whatsoever.

How so? The player still has a stacking sigil in his ‘combat set’ (combat set is set of weapons that can be used in combat). In the ele/engi/rev idea the ele/engi/rev stacks the sigil in his out of combat weapon then switches to the combat weapon (keeping the stacks) before going to combat. So the ele/engi/rev has stacks while having no stacking sigil in his ‘combat set’.

okay. i see what you mean.

…but giving all professions the ability to swap between weapon loadouts does not mean it has to function the same way weapon swap does.

You could simply reset sigil stacks for swapping weapon loadout.

Gw1 had like 3-4 weapon sets you could swap to/from.

I’d like to see something like that….. and make it completely separate from weapon swapping.

….plus an engi or an ele being able to do what all the other professions can do with sigil stacking (use a stacking weapon then swap) for pve is not gamebreaking and is really nothing to worry about.

Anyone opposing this idea is a fool.

It changes literally nothing except makes it more convenient to swap to a different weapon loadout when out of combat….

If an engineer wants to swap to pistol shield from rifle while he is out of combat… he must double click two different weapons.

Why not just let them swap weapons when they are out of combat?

Its literally no different than doing it manually except the added convenience.

There are some who are saying that stacking sigils should still work and that is a reason too oppose it. Also there is limited dev time so why should it to be spend on a feature only for 3 classes. Also why should only have three classes access to such a feature?

Again…. this changes nothing…

If it’s true then…lol… they want money for an incomplete content lacking expansion… -_-"

Speculations based on the fact that only a handful of legendaries will be ready at launch. Anet can claim “when it’s ready” as long as they want but they are not an independent studio and when ncsoft tells them to release it, they will. They’re not blizzard.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

New Legendaries were said to happen (in 2012) for 2013…… and now we are finally getting them bundled into the “expansion.” That might just barely make it into 2015.

This is what I’m talking about….. content, features, etc. that we were going to just get for free… are being saved up and are going to be put behind a pay wall.

No amount of white knighting is going to change anyone’s view on this.
This is factual.

I’m just hoping we see an equivalent amount or more of living story/content and features if we have to wait for the expansion without getting any new content in between.

Seems you not played many real beta / alpha well at least the non payed ones. Just watch videos of older game’s beta and alpha back when they where not selling you incompetent games and testing was helping the game makers and they where happy to have you play it for free.

Obviously you did not play the Guild Wars 2 beta stress tests (prior to the game’s release) or you would not be making this statement.

The HoT stress test beta had literally less than 20 minutes worth of content to explore.
It is not even comparable to the amount of Living Story we would have available since hot was released if Anet was still giving us episodes.

I know its nowhere near a finished project. (as I have stated over and over again in this thread) I know this was just a stress test… and I also know that compared to the other stress tests which I participated in for the game’s initial release…. this is a joke.

…and all of that is still unrelated to my concern that this “expansion” is just a bundle package of Living Story, some of which we would have probably already had in final and complete form by now.

We haven’t had a Living Story addition since the announcement of Hot.

We were getting content every two weeks in the form of living world.

How many episodes are we going to miss before the expansion comes out?

How much of this “expansion” is just going to be the Living Story which we would have already had by the time it is released.

Why are we going to have to pay for something that is being delivered in a method more undesirable that what we had before when it was free?

In this day and age, who would use the same password and login information across multiple platforms??? All you need to do is create multiple G-mail accounts, and use them as unique e-mail logins.

In this day and age every person is forced to remember upwards of 10+ passwords.

If you can actually remember which of your passwords correspond to which platform without the help of your browser, grats.

Many people, however, use the same (if not similar) credentials in different places in order to actually remember them. A master password if you will.

Of course, it is not wise to use the same or similar passwords in multiple locations but when you have 50 passwords you need to remember some of them may end up getting reused for simplicity’s sake.

…and you would be surprised how easily a thief getting “shared credentials” for two or more accounts, which you might think of harmless (like a twitch account that shares credentials with say DeviantArt)…. but it could easily snowball into the thief getting answers to security questions, more accounts, and before you know it, everything.

Regardless of what level of security you personally practice with your own personal password keeping, this message is intended solely for those who reuse their credentials, and if game accounts being stolen in this manner was not something I have seen in the past, this post would not exist.

Currently we are able to preview equipment using the preview panel….. but customizing this equipment with the four dye for all of your armor pieces really doesn’t leave much room for a decent preview.

If we could preview equipment which we have yet to unlock in the Hero Panel Wardrobe, we could customize each piece with dyes much more efficiently.

I would very much like to see weapons and armor appear in the Hero panel wardrobe much the same way that they appear in the bank wardrobe.

I would also have to suggest (if this was implemented), along with the ability to preview locked weapons and armor, we also have a toggle switch to show/hide locked weapon/armor skins, so that if players want to choose only from the list of items they have unlocked they can still do so.

Thanks for reading!

It is just too little too late.

If they gave us a paid expansion on top of a continued Living World it would have been met with the highest praise.

Stopping the Living World to save up content and then delivering said content in the form of an expansion is not what anyone asked for.

I would be insulted if HoT ends up being content we were going to see in future episodes of Living world hiding behind a pay wall.*

When they did that announcement thing this is what many said. For an expansion it seemed to lack content. Some have argued that even though they are just adding 1 zone, that zone will have 3 layers.

But yes many do not call this a real expansion atm, some have called it Living World Season 3 with a Feature Pack put together to be sold as an apparent expansion.

But we’ll have to wait until release to see. But if the above is the case then it will upset a few players.

This is exactly what I have been talking about….. we went from getting content packets every two weeks to nothing….

Then all the content we are supposed to be getting is being saved up and labeled as “expansion”

I would compare it to
Giving a hungry person a bite of a hamburger every hour… for free….
Giving a hungry person an entire hamburger all at once and making him pay for it.

It is nothing more than the Living Story episodes and Feature packs we have already been getting… being saved up and given to us as a whole instead of in bite-sized pieces…. and there is a price tag associated with it.

For those of you who use Twitch to stream Guild Wars 2, please be advised that many e-mail addresses and passwords have been leaked.

This should not be a problem for you if you use a unique credentials on twitch…. but many people use passwords in multiple places.

If your twitch password was also your e-mail password or your game client password, I would suggest changing them immediately.

When a similar leak occurred on a GW1 Fansite (GWGuru) hundreds of player lost access to their accounts due to using similar credentials on both GW and their e-mail addresses.

Remember… if someone has access to your e-mail that can be just as good as access to your account.

It is literally no different… save they are adding a new profession.

So why is Anet putting it behind a pay wall?

The Biggest Concern about HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Hello Everyone.

If you are like me, you participated in the HoT stress test Beta today.
…and if you didn’t get to participate you are ravenously reading through forum posts trying to gather information regarding the Beta.

What I see is a lot of white knighting on the forums.

Players saying the game is “great” or that they “had fun.”
…and that is all good and well.

…but what we experienced today in the HoT “beta” is nowhere even near anything I would even call a beta or an alpha.

What we saw today was the next episode of the living story dressed up to appear like it will be expansion after some serious overhaul…. when there is currently nowhere near an expansion-sized chunk of content even close to finished for HoT.

I feel that continuing the living world…. putting up a pay wall and labeling it as an expansion is unacceptable….

Imagine Gw2 comes with a cup in which we receive our Living World updates, and that cup is now full.
In order to continue receiving Living world updates you are going to have to purchase this “expansion” which is just another cup to receive more Living World updates.

This is not an expansion…. this is more Living world.

For the Gw2 stress test betas, players were able to test “the game.” ….For the Gw2:HoT stress test beta we got a living story instance, that same living story instance made to look like an explorable map, half of a new profession, and a boss fight.

It looks like all of the work that has gone into the “expansion” so far amounts to one episode of living story….. and I really feel like this is a final “sinking ship” cash grab move by Anet in order to get players to dish out money just to continue receiving the living world.

What I “beta tested” was the next episode of the Living World, and I would be insulted if HoT ends up being content we were going to see in future episodes of Living world hiding behind a pay wall.

Thank you for reading.

...Thank You!!

Thanks for inviting me to the beta.

I was really not impressed with it though….

I really hope you guys over there at Anet don’t let me down.

I know you can do it.

Incredibly underwhelming.

The Wyvern fight was not particularly fun or challenging, but I can see it as a nice platform to be built upon.

The flamethrower in the mini game did not seem to respond the way the engineer flamethrower does. I’m not sure if it was buggy or what.

I almost fell asleep fighting some of the mordrem in the main area.

Gliding is pretty buggy.

I managed to harvest the ancient sapling from 9234823498 feet away by jumping up, hitting ‘F’ sliding off the cliff and then opening my glider.

I also experienced several client crashes, due to one error in coding.

It seems that if you are pulling out your glider as you are activating Revenant F1 skill (by activating as you fall off/scrape a ledge) the game will crash every time.

The Revenant doesn’t seem to excel in support or raw damage as much as it does in condition damage…. which is disappointing unless the PvE in HoT caters more for condition dmg builds.

If you are going to give us another class that can’t swap to a second weapon set….. at least make it so we can swap weapons while out of combat.

There is literally no difference between opening your inventory and manually equipping your weapons versus hitting the weapon swap button if you are out of combat….. except you have to do it for two weapons when you could just hit the swap key.

I really didn’t have too much fun….. we weren’t able to test any specializations for the other classes….. and we didn’t even get all the traits for revenant. …nothing new added for the other professions.

There wasn’t much content to explore.

I think the most fun I had was farming mace + hammer kills for the AP on the pocket raptors.

Overall it was pretty depressing since I was really looking forward to this beta.

Seems I’ve set the bar a bit too high.

Client Crashes if you I use Revenant F1 skill in combination with spacebar during a fall, and manage to scrape a ledge.

If you do hit a ledge slightly you can actually use skills and the game crashes since it apparently can’t handle the character transforming and taking out the glider at the same time.

anyone having crash issues?

I queued for a pvp match…. as soon as the queue popped i got disconnected. Couldn’t log back in until the match was over i’m assuming.

i dont see why people would take a chance on a 10 min queue and chance not getting each other.

Doesn’t mean people aren’t abusing it…. besides when an entire team worth of players queues up solo, it cuts the time in half.

Now that team and solo queues have been combined it is possible for a group of friends to all solo queue at the same time then cancel when they all don’t get the queue pop at the same time with no penalty whatsoever.

Basically ensuring their “team” versus pugs every time.

Mystic Forge and Legendaries

TheBlackLeech.9360

If I am aiming to just get a legendary, doesn’t matter which one… Would it be best to put in Greatswords into the forge since there are 2 Greatsword Legendaries? Would that be a higher chance of getting a precursor?

I get what you are saying…. but you also have to take into account the total number of exotic skins you can get from the mystic forge as a result of throwing in weapons.

You may have two different greatsword precursors that you can obtain….. but there are many more greatswords you can get in an outcome as opposed to rifles for example.

2/100 is still better than 1/80 but I’m not sure of the exact numbers…. and I am going to go with your thoughts and say that greatswords are your best bet….. but I’m not certain.

why are almost all the builds unusable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Most builds are “usable” because of the skill-based dodging system.

If you can dodge/heal all the attacks a foe throws your way it does not matter how much damage you are doing because you will kill your foe before you die.

How fast you are able to kill your foes is the only limiting factor assuming you are able to dodge properly.

You can dodge all the attacks regardless of which build you are running… and as long as the foe dies before you do it is considered “usable” but its definitely not viable to deal little damage, since building tankyness in pve is useless unless you don’t know how to blind/reflect/evade.

Just felt the need to mention, that the last paragraph is only up to a point. Some professions have a “dodge heavy” build as a variation to the meta for PVE, IE 56030 for thief, 66020 for engi, or simply grabbing vigor trait on Guard.

I should have said you can “avoid all attacks”

Is it Botting, or exploiting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Botting is usage of a third party program or macros to perform tasks for you.

Exploiting is using methods (already in the game) in a way that benefits you in a way that was not intended by the game developers.

Example:
Leaving your character parked outside of a fort in the Silverwastes with a ranger pet, or a trait, or other mechanic that will earn you rewards while you are completely afk is not working as intended and is therefore an exploit.

some guy is spamming join invites to my party over and over, kicking us out of PVP queue. we both have him blocked and are both invisible and he is still spamming invites.

Idk how this is possible, since joining and leaving a party 3 times in quick succession will get you suppressed, and will prevent you from joining any more parties with the LFG tool.

Are you certain it was the same person every time?

he wasn’t joining through the LFG tool. IDK how he was joining because we both had him blocked we were set to invisible status.

…so if he wasn’t joining through the LFG tool….. why would you accept him into your party to begin with?

When it comes to accepting a join request….

THE POWER IS YOURS !

Highest DPS for PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Elementalist has highest burst for 1-3 seconds, and also has highest sustained dps….

But there are some other classes that can pump out more dps in the 10-20 second range…

For example,
A power Necromancer can drop wells, then enter lich form and auto attack and pull ahead in dps at around the 10 second mark….. but will eventually fall back behind the elementalist at about the 20 second mark.

If you are looking for the most sustained dps, elementalist is the way to go, imo.
