1 No monthly fees
Having no monthly fees is an excellent thing that makes Guild Wars 2 really stand out against the rest of the MMO’s out there today. Some may argue that Living World and other game updates are not enough to keep players entertained, but simply because we have Living World, does not mean we will never see an expansion. I have faith that one day we will see an expansion, even though I am a hardcore player and I have exhausted all of the content at my disposal for quite some time.
2 The gold to gem conversion
Another thing that makes Guild Wars 2 stand out against other MMO’s is its gold to gem conversion. The ability to convert in-game currency to cash-shop currency is something that not all MMO’s have. While this feature was much better nearer to the game’s initial launch, it is still an excellent way to get items and get items you would normally have to pay cash for in a different MMO. The only thing that bothers me is…. I wish there was more transparency behind the fluctuation of gem prices, and I feel that I don’t fully understand how gems can increase in value constantly if gems are constantly being introduced into the game through irl-cash conversion. At any rate, without this feature, Guild Wars 2 would be just another cash-shop MMO, and I am definitely happy this feature exists in the game.
3 The Combat
Finally we come to the combat system of Guild Wars 2. This game’s combat is the most amazing and fluid combat I have ever seen in any MMO ever. Most players don’t realize just how spoiled we are when it comes to our combat system. Of course it does have its flaws, and there are many things that could use some serious work….. but overall it is still excellent for casual players to experience what I believe to be the most realistic combat in any MMO on the market today. That being said, enemy AI could use a lot of work to bring the combat system up in quality. Enemies attack too slowly, act too predictably, and the invulnerable + regen that happens against foes who can’t immediately retaliate against you take away greatly from an otherwise wonderful combat experience. The AI is a joke to most veteran players, we need more patrolling mobs, and we need to find a happy medium between having foes leave combat and regenerate health and being able to stand on a rock and avoid taking any damage.
Thanks for reading.
This is still happening. wtf?
they removed this and the kodan scream… and i can’t say the game is worse off without them…….
though admittedly I did get a bit of a laugh from the screaming kodans
Anet just needs to up the afk boot timer in Silverwastes….. there have been times where I’ve literally seen someone AFK in the same spot for over 24 hours.
Start prompting inactive players to resume active play immediately after the server is hardcapped.
I disagree about account names being released due to general inactivity….
…but accounts that are permanently banned should definitely have their character names released.
Hard mode dungeons? Sure.
Hard mode maps? Won’t work.
PvE sure, you are MOSTLY right.
PvP and WvW also exist however. Try going full DPS… I dare you…
Going full dps is still viable in both pvp and WvW….. idk what you are on about.
Long story short….. other players passed you up.
No…. the rime-rimmed breather actually uses the metal aquabreather skin.
The effect is exclusive to the item, and is not part of any skin.
This just is not the case at all.
I opened my Marriner’s oilcloth bag on a different toon than the one I wanted to use it on.
Put the breather itself in the bank, retrieved it on the toon I wanted to use it on…. and equipped it with no issue whatsoever.
Now….. if say you chose the stats before attempting to transfer the item, it may have indeed become soulbound at that point.
I really like bell choir and I hate guitar hero.
I have never learned to play the piano or any musical instruments…
This is just a fun game…. but requires good hand-eye coordination.
It may not be for you….. but you don’t have to do it.
Here is a tip though.
Play the notes after they enter the circle you are standing on.
Many players don’t realize that they are hitting the notes too early because they think they need to hit the note as it touches the line.
Wait for the note to PASS OVER THE LINE before playing it.
Hope this helps.
Yeah this happened to me once….
Right after the popping presents, there is the gust of wind that blows players off…. and then the candy cane bridge.
For some reason its possible to take fall damage nonstop just for walking forward and slightly downhill.
It is literally no different than the maize balm stuff…. except replace the balm with snowflakes….. and the ambients with the mystic forge.
The prices of everything else is set by players….. so prices will come down once more supply of items gets put up on the tp.
How about a right click command, consume all.
And then all your food in inventory disappears.
consume all would only work for the stack you clicked on.
Me and some guildies keep having our finishers revert back to the basic cloth on a stick first finisher you have for some reason. Haven’t figured out a pattern yet.
I guess what confuses me is why the problem is isolated to GW2. Everything else was running perfectly fine — cable, phone, and every other website I went to, no issues. And I haven’t had any issue with it until this patch, so it confused me even more when I read through some of the comments saying they’ve had this problem with Comcast for the past few patches.
I wonder if Anet uses some sort of P2P networking to help players download patches faster that sends up some sort of red flag with comcast which would cause a bottleneck in download transfer speeds.
…but did you notice a sudden decline in “good” loot during your gift opening?
Was the good loot front-loaded in your gift opening?
Did you get any of the tonic recipes, minis, etc. near the end of your gift opening?
Also did you open all of your gifts at once?
I opened in 3 batches of 10 stacks each, then recorded my results. I had good drops front, center and back of each run.
Thanks for corresponding.
If you don’t mind me asking how long of a break did you take between each batch?
Between 30-60 min.
Anyways, Anet employees stated several times what exactly is suspicable to DR and containers arent included. It also wouldnt serve a purpose either.
You only hit a hot or cold streak on the rng train.
I recorded more than 400k opened containers (for personal use) since launch, usually in batches between 1-10k and i think there lies your problem. If you choose too small sample sizes, your perceived quality of the average loot table might be hightened, if you hit a lucky streak at the start.
Part of me wants to believe that its just a cold streak…. but part of me still wants to believe otherwise.
You’ve made me lean more toward poor luck and RNG more than DR.
Anyway thanks for sharing your results.
…and I still encourage others to post your gift loot tables!

Ok i added up the total of gifts purchased and it was 6331.
I’m going to assume I opened about another two stacks or so of gifts farmed from other sources (Tixx, dailies, bell choir, JP) and say its somewhere just short of 7k
Items sold on the TP:
Toymaker Tonic 5
Tonic Recipe 4
Ho-Ho Tron 5
Red Bell Case 2
Unbreakable Choir Bell 5
Interestingly enough…. All of the unbreakable Choir bells were end-loaded. (I did not get any yesterday or the beginning of today….. and started getting them when i stopped getting the good loot)
I also did not get any tonics tonic recipes or ho-ho trons once I started getting unbreakable bells.
The only “good loot” that started dropping after the unbreakable choir bells started were the red bell case which started about the same time as the unbreakable bell.
(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)
Here are my numbers on rare loot from 30 stacks (7.5k) giant gifts:
6 tonic recipes
5 mini ho ho trons
6 unbreakable choir bells
4 Endless Toymakers Tonics
3 red musical bell cases
1 festival wrapped beverage case (choice of endless toy tonic)
1 exotic aqua breather (givers stats selectable, upon others)
1×10 t6 clawsHavent got a endless gift dolyak tonic yet, so not sure, if those are also on the loot table or just from the forge.
I also havent got a drop of recipes for light of dwayna and shadow of grenth but i think i remember from last year that they only dropped from small, medium and large gifts anyways.

Right-click “consume all” on a stack of items would be the best invention in the history of Tyria.
How about a right click command, consume all.
Ok….. so somebody posted some numbers ….. and guess what?
His results are almost identical to my results for the good loot…. and I have definitely opened AT LEAST more than double the amount of bags he has opened.
The garbage loot scaled up with the amount of gifts I opened….. (more unsafe wintersday gifts…. bottle shaped gifts, dusty clothes, etc.)
I’m going to get a calculator and find out the exact amount here in a bit….. this is driving me nuts.
If DR do indeed affect containers, then all data regarding any containers can be thrown out of the window since they are skewed by DR. Someone would have noticed this a long time ago. Like that one guy who opened up 5000 champion loot boxes?
I’ve opened many more gifts than 5k…..
…and I understand what you are saying…. but I would still like to hear from someone who has opened a lot of gifts…. it just doesn’t feel right.
Idk if you have been playing since DR was a problem in this game…. but it definitely feels like DR used to feel.
you said a few stack. Most people take it as like 3-4 stack. You are obviously lucky if you opened a few stack and get all that. Else wintersday box will be much more expensive or the mini and recipe will be much cheaper.
Unless you mean you opened 100 stack and call it a few.
I changed the wording to prevent any confusion… and no it wasn’t anywhere near that many on the first day.

Sometimes when advertising your party in the LFG, you can get suppressed in say and map chat.
Other than that, someone may have reported you for spamming if you got suppressed quicker than normal.
I don’t have a link but Anet have said previously they don’t put diminishing returns on opening containers.
It might affect acquiring containers if you were farming them as drops, but not opening them.
I believe that the only comment made by Anet staff was in regards to ToT bags….. not containers in general.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Gwynefyrdd-the-Halloween-miniature/page/7
Diminishing Returns do not apply to ToT Bags. I mean, phew! I read that question and my blood ran cold, but I felt sure — and the designer confirmed — that DR is not a factor with the Trick-or-Treat bags. Open 1, open 100, the drop rate is not impacted by diminishing returns.
I opened a lot of ToT bags during Halloween also…. and I never felt like the loot suddenly started giving minimal returns, and never once felt any DR present.
The gifts on the other hand is another story….
Unless I just had a 4 hour long bad luck streak, I’d almost definitely say DR was playing a role here….. but I don’t know for sure.
That is why I’m asking the forums to see if another player who has opened a lot of bags has similar experiences, or if a dev can confirm/deny the existence of DR.

I should really know better… I just deleted stacks and stacks of these things before the update :-[
The star only takes, at most, a stack a day. (its anywhere from [3 to 5] x [50 empyreal fragments] )
I’m sure you will still be earning fragments faster than you can convert them into gifts.
Heavy gunner charr master race.
Nothing like having reduced movement speed to balance out your sheer kittenery but also having a racial movement gap closer to turn that balance into your advantage.
That’s probably my only gripe. Take the salvaging for instance: you actually have to salvage in certain areas now instead of any node in tyria. I don’t know if that was any kind of improvement considering that it places an additional restriction on how a player wants to roam. For instance, when I’d do a dungeon run or event boss in the past I’d suddenly achieve dailies without realizing I was doing them. Now, with the additional requirements, it becomes more like a separate chore and doesn’t blend well with the activities I planned on doing.
I would recommend posting in one of the existing threads on the issue.
Here a good way to look at it what are you talking about when your saying dailies? We have 2 dailies now the just log in that holds most of what the old dailies system had or the other system that you need to do to get the old ap but you also get more rewards as in chest.
What dailies do ppl hate?
It is actually even more complex. We have daily login system, we have moving ap’s to daily completionist, we have daily achievement rewards (tied to the previous point), and we have the new daily achievements.
In my case, the problem lies only in that last part (daily achievements being way more specific than before), and from what i see, most complains of other people also address specifically this part of the new system.I have a minor nitpick with the fact that the wintersday dailies were obviously meant to interface with the old system, but that is a separate case (and, as i mentioned already, a minor one).
Look at it this way.
The only real reward from the new daily system is AP…. and even that is almost meaningless.
Say one day you decide, “Man… I don’t like these daily categories… I’m not going to do my daily today.”
Daily AP rewards have a cap.
Once you reach that cap, there is literally no point in doing your daily any more.
(unless you do it for the reward chests….. which in my honest opinion is an amazing addition… and is reason enough for me to strive to do all the categories regardless of having already earned my AP)
You reach this cap sooner or later….. and there is no avoiding it if you continue doing your daily.
There is no difference whether or not you rush the cap or take your time.
Also…. if you really cared about your AP that much….. you would have been one of the people who did every single AP category to earn the most AP….. in which case this should be a welcome change since you get max AP for only doing 3 categories….
What is the issue here?
I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.
Worse yet there’s a handful of players who do nothing but excuse Anet’s poor choices and praise them for everything they do.
I agree, and I sincerely hope you are not attempting to insinuate that I’m one of those people.
I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only AP hunter that likes:
- Permanent achievements that grants us AP.
- Hard achievements that grants us AP.
- Non-repeatable achievements that grants us AP.
and hates:
- Temporary achievements that grants AP only if you are not away for several days.
- Easy achievements that grants AP by just spending gold or talking to a NPC.
- Repeatable achievements that grants AP if you spend several hours doing something that was fun the first two hours.
Last halloween’s Lunanic Inquisition was a good example of bad achievement choices, but this wintersday you created another repeatable, temporary achievement that forces us to play more than 15 hours average to get all the APs.
In Snowball Mayhem, you don’t choose to give us APs for returning 20 gifts, or for killing 20 enemies, or dropping 5 enemy gifts. You give us a simple, extreme easy, enter-and-do-nothing achievement that only requires one thing from us: stay on the computer dozens of hours “playing”.
This post pretends to be constructive. I know that AP hunters are not the majority of the playerbase, but we exist too. Repeatable events that grant APs are not funny. If you remove the extra APs I don’t think that anyone else in the game would complain.
Please, make everyone happy.
On a side note, if you are going to continue with the easy talk-to-the-NPC achievements, I suggest a name change for “Achievements”. “Tasks” fits more properly.
I feel like this topic was posted at a bit of an odd time on the forums…..
Lots of players are going to think this thread is related to the most recent update.
Anyway…. I completely agree with you.
Players who craft a legendary weapon are awarded the same amount of AP as someone who makes a donation to the Ho-Ho-Tron.
Killing a thousand giants is going to take months of dedicated giant slaying….
…but hey i opened 5 wintersday presents… that’s about the same right?
That is kittened up.
Dailies and monthlies have a cap…. and Wintersday sort of urinates all over the value AP system.
It causes AP inflation…. and devalues achievements that are extremely difficult to earn.
(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)
Just a question, does this mean that new players would not be able to get the Star of Gratitude once Wintersday ends? At least with Mawdrey you can get all the components even without doing the storyline.
New/old players alike get the star for completing a Wintersday daily quest chain (Feeding the Grawl in your home instance Seimur’s Bloodstone food) , and then completing a collection.
The event chain will most likely not be available after Wintersday….
and
The items required to complete the collection may also no longer be available after Wintersday ends.
The only thing new players may be unable to do is open an orrian chest to complete the collection….
I do not know of any orrian chests available to low-level characters….. but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)
I dislike them ONLY because there is no longer a laurel reward!
You literally get your laurels now “just for showing up” …
Do you people even look into the details of updates before you start complain about them?
…I really don’t understand.
I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.
Its sickening.
Like….. if you seriously don’t like every single thing anet does…. why don’t you just quit playing and shut up already.
Legitimate issues that get posted in the forums get swallowed up by dozens of qq threads posted by players with xenophobia who can’t handle arenanet tweaking game mechanics or content delivery.
Honestly…. the new Log-in and Daily rewards are amazing.
…but heaven forbid anet changes the path from point A to point B and holy kitten people lose their kittening minds.
They give you your laurels now just for logging in….
Players who really care about earning the most possible AP no longer have to do every single daily category to get the max AP for the day.
Dailies can be completed in record times…. and encourage players to go out and be in different areas they would otherwise have no reason to visit…. and if you decide you don’t want to do your daily….. you aren’t missing out on anything.
All the people crying need to stop for a moment…. and look at the situation.
Holy kitten you’re lucky with drops.
5 ho-ho trons so far, endless tonics, recipe books. and you’re complaining because you hit a bad streak of RNG.
I’ve gotten 1 ho-ho tron and 1 recipe book. The rest pretty much nothing. It’s a bad streak of RNG which most of us deal with as the majority of our time in game. Be thankful you had a lucky streak before you got put down with the rest of us.
…. no
You don’t understand how many gifts I’ve opened.
Because you never said how many you’ve opened :p
How many aquabreathers did you get (did you get any)?
It would take me an hour to add up all the box purchases on the TP.
(and for some silly reason it splits each stack purchased into random increment chunks)
…and no…. no breathers.
Holy kitten you’re lucky with drops.

Can anyone confirm or deny DR affects the gifts?
Yesterday, I opened a bunch of stacks of gifts, got 3 ho-ho trons, 4 endless tonics, and 2 endless tonic recipe books.
Today, I resumed opening stacks of gifts and the loot started off good (2 ho-ho trons, a recipe book, an endless tonic) and after that I had a sudden drop-off in returns and have yet to receive anything in the last 4 hours…..
I’ve opened A LOT of stacks of gifts… and I feel like I am opening them too rapidly and getting hit by DR.
Normally I would attribute my poor results to a bad stroke of luck with RNG….. but I opened Halloween Bags for days straight and never saw a drop off like this……
…and the Wintersday gift loot was good when i opened a bunch of stacks, gave it a break, and opened a bunch more stacks…… then after continued opening….. nothing.
Experiences? Thoughts?
(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)
I’ve been hammering on this MF recipe like crazy and still haven’t gotten any hits yet.
I would like this, but I crafted all my empyreal fragments about a week ago to get my artificer up a few levels :/
I’ve crafted a stack+ of stars and still have plenty of fragments to convert into gifts.
Besides… its not like you won’t get more….
what i dislike?well maybe dislike is a wrong word to say but i believe that the previous system was working fine.you could easily complete it really fast just by playing either pvp pve or wvw.
I thought the first daily system was okay after getting Karma Jugs appended to it. I was clearly mentally handicapped, because it kept getting tinkered with for the good of the players and I kept going “what the . . . why? It’s working . . .”
Can this be the last time the system gets overhauled? Pretty please?
Hopefully no, they need one more overhaul, and that is to put it back to how it worked before the kitten up just before this one. Where you got AP for ea daily item you completed, and if you completed more, you earned more.
And then we’ll be back here in six months about how the dailies force you to do stuff you don’t want to do. Again. As has been happening since day one.
where is this magical contract that you signed that forces you to do a daily?
Everyone arguing this is missing the point why Arenanet did this.
They did it so YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO YOUR DAILY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO.
You get your laurels just for logging in.
If you don’t like your daily category selection…. don’t do your daily.
Simple as that.
The only thing you are going to miss out on is 10 ap if you choose not to do your daily.
The total AP you can get for doing dailies has a cap…. and if you are still below the cap… you obviously don’t care enough about AP to begin with.
what is the point of all this qq?
Thank you!
Items like the Star of Gratitude restore my faith that the developers actually do listen to the players, and that they actually do understand some of the things that make really great rewards.
I personally love the changes.
incoming disappointment
I just made it through the 0kbs wall….. im assuming the rest of us should be making it through as well.
EDIT: kitten SPOKE TOO SOON!
I think it’s going to make it..
YOU CAN DO IT COMCAST!!! I BELIEVE IN YOU…
Guys I understand we are all anxious and eager to play and want to share our stories…. but I would highly recommend not posting images of your login credentials and password length.
We should all hang out.
There’s a Hooters in Schererville IN…
LOL
If by hang out….. you mean start gathering the pitchforks and head toward the nearest comcast center…. sure.
