3 Years for 1 Expansion.....

Only skimmed the thread, but… are all you people forgetting it took roughly the same amount of time for GW1 to get an expansion?

What are you smoking? Guild Wars 1 got two standalone campaigns (expansions on steroids) with less than a year of wait time…. and it was only years later that they released an actual “expansion” (not a standalone game).

to be honest I think they hit the nail on the head with the timing of there expansion
and at this same time the forums where being to get restless looking for a expansion

….you don’t think the forum posts are what lit the fire underneath anet to get moving??

It would have been different if they announced an expansion that was completed…..
(instead of starting the withholding of living story releases to bundle them and sell them as an expansion after waiting months and months)
…or if they announced it before people started gathering the pitchforks.

They only did it because they needed to.

Everyone seems to think their suggests are best for the game and are almost universally supported. That’s claptrap. The more people who say this is what I want, the more we see people want wildly different things and Anet can’t do them all. NO company can do them all..

Yeah…. I can’t think of anyone who supports my suggestions of having worthwhile content…. (except the hundreds of people I knew from GW1 who bought GW2 and haven’t played in 2 years.)

At the moment my friends havent played for over a month. But when they play they throws alot of cash for gems.

Your friends are the reason why we had to wait 3 years for an expansion.
As long as Anet continues making money, they have no incentive to do anything.
Sales dropped and then all of a sudden it was …… “Okay guys time to milk a different cash cow….”

But what you paid for was GW2 and you got it, you could play it without a single update and it was well worth your money with the content you got from that money. All the updates was for free, it was a thank you too everyone for that there are people spending money on the gems-store.

Nobody said they didn’t get their money’s worth. What I am upset about is my time invested. I would rather pay money to continue having fun, than to watch all my hard efforts shrivel up and die because of a lackadaisical development team. When the game dies, so does all the players’ time and effort put into it. The game is already dead to me, and if they keep feeding us breadcrumbs through a straw for 12 years, I can only imagine some people will start to share my mindset.

@TheBlackLeech

If you hate the game so much, then why did you start the thread. Do you go to sporting events and root against the home team? .

I didn’t make this thread, einstein… if anyone you’d probably be the one mistaking identities. ….but just the same, am I not allowed to voice my opinion simply because I disagree with the white knights and fanboys?

If they keep us entertained throughout, I see no problem with it taking 12 years to defeat all the dragons.

The problem is that they are definitely not keeping me entertained… at all.

12 years of starving for content?

No thanks.

You can’t please everyone.

But Tera online can

He should go play Tera online then. The problem here isn’t the game, it’s the people who think the game should fit their exact needs.

…or maybe I should play the sequel to the original Guild Wars (if it only existed) and not this sorry excuse for a money grabbing cash cow of a MMO we call Guild Wars 2.

No, it really sounds like you should get some sense and stop purposefully expose yourself to something that you obviously can’t stand. If the game doesn’t fit you as a player, don’t throw time/money at it expecting it to change. That’s not a realistic approach.

Do you think I even have a reason to log into Gw2 any more?

Sounds like it’s something you should have never logged into if you have been starving for content for 12 years.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop you from posting.

I don’t know if you completely fail at reading comprehension or what, but you might want to go back and try again.

3 Years for 1 Expansion.....

TheBlackLeech.9360

I played Guild Wars for 6-7 years. We got expansions every year….for the first three years (sometimes more than that) …. and these expansions were so massive they were sold as standalone games. (there was so much content that you actually wanted to keep playing)
Even trying to compare the living world releases of Guild Wars 2 to the amount of Content Anet gave us in Gw1 is insulting.

Also about this… My memory isn’t realy perfect so I may be wrong but… Except from a new dungeon in profecies, some fixes to the games like Hardmode and alot of skill balances. What did Guild Wars 1 give us between the expansons? It can’t have been much compaired to how much free content we got in Guild Wars 2?

nothing.

They didn’t need to.

They properly spaced out and gauged the amount of time it took for players to completely exhaust content, and delivered more content before the game became dull.

Also, the addition of hard mode is nothing to gloss over.

That in itself more than doubled the total amount of content to do in the game.
(Before HM there was no vanquishing)

I haven’t done so in months.

Its just disappointing to see something you spent so much of your time on go completely belly-up…. and then still refuse to give up.

I liked Gw2 at the start, but only because I forced myself to like it.

I refused to accept the fact that all my preparation was completely wasted on a game that I didn’t like.

It took me a long time to come to grips with it, (i kept thinking things were going to get better) but I’ve long since gotten over it.

Guild Wars 2 is not something I support any more.

But you spend time coming to the forums. Total waste of time if you ask me.

Obviously there are people here who do like it. You don’t. Shrugs. Why leave a game and then come back to complain about walking away from it? Seems to me that that that’s neither constructive, nor particularly helpful even to you.

Hope you find a game you do like. Some of us still like this one.

I feel that if I get enough people to gather up the pitchforks then Anet might actually start caring about their playerbase instead of the dollar signs.

I think the last thing you should be doing is spending your time trying to convince someone who is content with something to hate it so that it may possibly benefit you in the future.

…but I’m not trying to do that either.

I just want more people to stand up for themselves.

Tell Anet what you want…. and don’t settle for anything less.

…and incase there is anyone out there who is just like me…. stockholm syndrome style… playing the game hoping it will get better because they have invested a lot of their time into it…

Don’t.
It is not going to get better unless Anet completely changes direction.

…but in the meantime stand up and voice your opinions.

Unless enough people like the game. Which seems to be the case. Anet changes the game to make it what you want, it’s likely to lose some of the people that currently are enjoying the game. The game is what it is and there are people, apparently more than a few of us, who do like it.

Sure it can be improved, but I can pretty much guarantee you it’s not going to do an about face and become the game you want. I think you’re wasting your time. Of course it is your time to waste.

There is an expansion taking shape right now.
What shape it takes has still yet to be determined.

I just hope when it finally does arrive that it brings all of you guys everything you want.
…because it won’t have what I want.

Stand up and voice your opinions now and don’t be pushed around or support a game developer that only decided to push an xpac after the cash well dried up.

Think of these two scenarios for dungeons like CM/TA/ARAH:
1: Thief is pure DPS, will not support the team what so ever in blind, stealth, CC.
2: Thief is pure support, no DPS.

Which do you think will make the dungeon go more smoothly and faster?
The point I am making is support from thief is far more important than the DPS it offers. This logic can also be applied to other classes.

I can do a full 5man naked dungeon tour if you guys want, it will probably still be faster than most “zerker only” pugs.

LOL

Let me ask you a few questions.

Did you play the original Guild Wars?
Do you think the amount of content delivered through Living world is enough to keep players busy?

Are you pleased with the amount of content available right now?
Have you been playing since launch?
What do you actually do when you play the game?
How many times have you repeated content?
How many times can you repeat content before it becomes dull to you?
Are you truly happy?

I played Guild Wars for 6-7 years. We got expansions every year….for the first three years (sometimes more than that) …. and these expansions were so massive they were sold as standalone games. (there was so much content that you actually wanted to keep playing)
Even trying to compare the living world releases of Guild Wars 2 to the amount of Content Anet gave us in Gw1 is insulting.

I am not pleased with the amount of content available in Guild Wars 2.
I have been playing since launch.
I have absolutely nothing left to do in the game.
I have repeated every single piece of content so many times its painful.
…and I can grind/repeat content for a looooooooong time before it gets boring.
…and in case you couldn’t tell… I’m not happy.

“You can’t please everyone” an old saying, but nowhere in history has it ever been an excuse to give up trying.
I’m actually pretty easy to please.

I would just like fun, repeatable, worthwhile content to experience.

Guild Wars 1 had it right.
Guild Wars 2 screwed it up.
We have no endgame. (challenging and repeatable content that award loot based on skill and challenge)
Over 90% of a player’s wealth comes out of the bottom of a slot machine called RNG.
Most of the content we get are chores/busy work or gem store items.

Most of the people who stayed with Guild Wars 1 till Guild Wars 2 were hardcore players. Guild Wars 2 is a casual MMO.

Its almost like Anet just looked at all the fans who pushed the game to the point where a sequel was possible and spit in their faces.

The hardcore players kept Gw1 alive.

Gw2 is already doomed to die if you don’t give the hardcore players a reason to stay interested.

It is single target, and even if you fail to avoid the attack you can 9/10 times escape getting hurt too badly by using dodges and flee.

I’ve suggested this before.

Dungeon Specific loot would be excellent.

an Example of how I would do it:

Ascalon Catacombs Path 2
The Ghost Eater
Drops a unique back item called The Ghost Eater’s Hide.

You can choose the stats for this back item, and it can be upgraded to an ascended version.

This back item makes your character appear ghostly while being worn.

Could we get some better male light armors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

I whole-heartedly agree with this.

There are way too many skirts for male characters.

I’ve made one light armor class a male…. (my necro) and it was a huge struggle to get him into some actual pants.

(I think there are like 3 pairs of pants available for light armor males…. one pair makes him look like Aladdin, one pair looks like tight jeans, and the last one, which I ended up using, was Legacy Armor Skin’s pants from the gemstore)

After that every light armor class I made was a female for this exact reason.

You can’t dress them to look manly.

…..also this: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Necromancer_armor

(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)

Why do you play female characters as a guy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

The only characters of mine that are female are my mesmers and my elementalist.

I just can not bring myself to make a male character whose special ability happens to be shattering clones into purple/pink butterflies.

Elementalist is pretty much the same thing… but for a different reason.

Male light armor classes have a real issue with their wardrobe at the moment. Everything is a skirt or a dress…. and since it took so long to get my male Necromancer to look like he wasn’t a crossdresser…. I figured I’d just make the elementalist a female.

So that makes a total of three female characters out of the 11 on my roster.

I also laugh at the responses about the appeal of looking at a girl character while you are playing.

Did you also play with barbies instead of GI joes growing up?

I think that being kitten or cool on your male characters is much more fun than playing a female toon.

TheBlackLeech.9360

I strongly dislike the illusion created by keeping track of personal score during pvp match.

It completely fools new players into thinking personal score actually matters… and that a higher score means they did “better”

It encourages things like double capping points, or piggybacking kills…

…and at the end of the match… the only thing everyone takes with them is a win or loss.

In pvp you need to be a team player…. and personal score more often than not promotes personal score boosting… which is detrimental to the team’s overall success.

I checked back to the beginning of April, you haven’t hit DR since that time.

So are you saying he hit DR somewhere near the beginning of April?

…or are you saying that’s as far back as you checked?

Either way…. the playerbase need more transparency when it comes to the stipulations on hitting DR. I feel that a lot of us are wasting our time farming an area and not getting loot… because we’ve hit the DR wall. (but have no way to tell)

Can you at least outline the basics regarding how a player does indeed hit DR?

Can you get DR from opening champ bags?

What about ToT bags or Wintersday gifts?

There are so many questions we have, and instead of elaborating, you respond with terse one line answers.

Is there any intention to add a message to the game’s event log, that tells a player his rewards have been reduced due to overfarming?

We can answer the questions ourselves if we could visually see when/if we are hitting DR.

…but as it sits right now… DR is completely shrouded in mystery…. and it shouldn’t be.

He’s saying that was the LAST time he hit monster-DR.

No he is not. That is merely how you interpret what he wrote.
I interpret it completely different: He checked the character in question all the way back to the beginning of the month of april, to see if it had hit DR during that time. He found out that it did not.

…and this is why I asked.

How are we even supposed to follow this trail of breadcrumbs?

To stop the evil bots from developing better AI for their bots, they likely won’t divulge exactly how you get DR as that would tell the bot makers how to code their bots to better avoid DR.

…which is the worst reason to implement any sort of policing.

Punishing players who are just trying to enjoy themselves because of the actions of botters and goldsellers.

Want to send everyone in your dungeon team a potion of slaying?
Nah you can’t. Because some gold seller once sent three e-mails to different people so everyone is now limited to two.

Half the time these “fixes” to prevent botters and gold sellers don’t even stop the bots but hinder regular players.

If you deny diminishing returns as a farmer..

Core game problems to be forgotten?

Anet has still yet to fix bugs that have been in the game since launch…

The release of HoT will change nothing…

the bugs will still remain as they always have.

First off, don’t be so quick to assume they didn’t listen to players. I remember the thread on the forums that lead to the check box for salvaging rares, it was put in the game specifically at player request.

Yes…. A request was made to prevent players from accidentally salvaging gear they wanted to keep.
(ie: exotic or better) Not annoy players who are intentionally salvaging rares.

When the changes were implemented, Anet interpreted that as “lets put a confirmation message on rares and higher rarity”
…when they should have interpreted it as “lets put a confirmation message on exotic items and higher rarity”

Second, I don’t know why it is that most of you have to scroll up to find your salvage kit again and then scroll back down to salvage. You do know the inventory window is adjustable, so to solve this problem, increase the size of the inventory window so you don’t have to scroll up and down, unless of course you have the max number of 20 slot bags on your character, in which case, you’d probably need a 27" monitor to view the entire inventory window. I personally have 23" monitor and I sized my inventory window to fill up the left side of the screen(not max number of bag slots, but all bags are 20 slot), not even covering chat, and I never have to scroll up and down to get my salvage kit. Admit it, you people are lazy and don’t like doing a little bit of work, even if it is a game.

I’ve already broken one mouse’s left-click button playing Double Click Wars 2…. and I’m certain that any suggestion that involves lowering the amount of clicking/double clicking has my positive vote. Also, this “work” is unnecessary, and has absolutely no purpose…. so why does it exist in the game?

Yes, rares have a chance of dropping Ecto, but I can guarantee you I get Ecto’s from 90% of the rares I salvage. I’d call that better than having a chance, that’s a 90% rate, and I can choose to either sell them on the TP, or I can even salvage the Ecto’s for Dust and Luck(I’m only at 180%), which, depending on the number of Dusts I get works out to be more lucrative or the same amount of gold as selling the Globs themselves, when I sell the Dust on the TP(I don’t need more in material storage, I have increased my material storage to 1000 items, all T5 mats are maxed, as are T6 Dust, Ecto’s, Obsidian, and the 3 Ascended base components).

cool story, bro.

There is no reason why you would even want to go to FGS over silverwastes if you are just interested in the money.

Blimey how many rares are you all salvaging for that to be a problem?? One of you please tell the Loot Fairy I want to be her BFF too lol

I was thinking the same thing.

As I recall, the warning was implemented at player request

If you are salvaging all of your drops after a dungeon run (full bags) every single time you hit a rare…. you must scroll back up to the top of your inventory and double click on your salvage kit again then scroll all the way back down to continue salvaging everything.

It is extremely annoying, and I’m surprised an anet staff member would question the motive behind numerous players asking for a (removal of) feature.

Also… why on earth would a player request that a rare (yellow) item have a warning? The developers DON’T really listen to us unless we get the putchforks…. so why would they implement a feature because someone salvaged a yellow item.

Answer: They didn’t. They added a warning for all tiers rare and above…. which would be a great feature if it was instead exotics and above.

I don’t recall seeing a warning for green items, but I don’t mind a bit getting the message in relation to golds.

Imagine you DID get the message for trying to salvage green items.
You don’t use them because they are trash loot…. rares are also trash-tier loot that have a chance of dropping ectoplasm when salvaged.

The warning message itself is a good idea…. for exotic or better gear.
…and I wouldn’t even mind the message on rares…
…if I didn’t have to go and find my salvage kit again to continue salvaging

Nobody asked for the message on rares. You should be intentionally salvaging all of your rares, imo. It has always been annoying…. and it really makes me wonder if the developers actually play their own game.

For rares it is a nuisance… (still okay for exotic or better) and if you layed the game on a regular basis you would not have to question it.

The norn don’t acknowledge them in any way (they even worship several lesser animals like the ox, owl, wolverine, etc. in addition to the bigger ones)

They always seem to be referenced in human culture…
In Guild Wars 1…
There is a Celestial Horse
Iron Horse Mines
Guild emblems
Necrid Horsemen, etc.

Yet they are never seen in game.
save the necrid horseman…. which clearly is not anatomically a horse…. but more of a “horror” or undead minion in the shape of a horse.

To me it just seems like they may have existed as part of human culture a long time ago…… but people at anet continue to forget their own lore…. and stuff like this happens:

Successfully defending a point for the majority of the match usually earns low score.

You don’t get additional score for defending, and you miss out on additional neutralization/capture score if you are doing your job properly.

The reason you probably had a higher personal score was from repeatedly channeling the most useless buffs on the map, and neutralizing or recapping after you failed to defend the point from enemy decap/capture…..

Which means you were doing a poor job defending if the enemy kept getting a decap (which probably happened every time you went to channel ferocity).

They are right, having the best personal score does not always mean you are doing what is best for the team, or even doing what you are doing well…. but if you won…. you won.

The match is history… and none of us were spectators of your match, so we don’t know for sure how you did.

Just keep in mind that three players kill one person and they all get points.
Three players neutralize a point, and they all get points, and if they all stay to cap…. they all get points again.

Two of those players are doing absolutely nothing to contribute to the team effort, but are increasing their personal score…

While there might be a guy on your team who is defending a point 1v2, and doing a kitten good job at holding the cap…. and he gets no personal score beyond the first cap of the point…. but is earning score for the team
