Did quickness nerf affect PVE bosses too?

Logically, they should hurt less now. Hopefully, the nerf wasn’t one-sided and it should make bosses less deadly too.

Specifically, I remember the CoF p1 boss using quickness. Does he seem to hurt less now?

I did not notice any difference, but it’s more a feeling that some real calculations on the damages I have taken.

I second this. It is rather annoying to get hit with agony right after you enter death shroud (with full life force)… and have your life force pool completely drained as if you got hit with a massive attack, regardless of how much AR you have.

It is, however difficult to balance…
If our AR did function properly in death shroud, we could potentially mitigate more agony damage than other players, creating an imbalance.

You can take a laundry list of any random features and apply to any random game and come up with a bunch of stuff it doesnt do. Kinda pointless.

If this is what people were actually doing, then yes, it would be a pointless discussion. However, the discussion involves MMO activities for which GW2 (an MMO) is either lacking completely or is weak in at best. The only really pointless comment so far is…yours. lol

I think the entire point of GW2 is to be different from all other MMOs.

I’m sorry…. i actually enjoy the game called Guild Wars 2.

When you make your own MMORPG you can decide what you want to put in it.

I have put my faith in the hands of Arenanet when I purchased this game.

If they do not want to put mounts in this game, wonderful.

If you want to play a game with mounts, then go do it.

Stop trying to influence Guild Wars 2 to fit your needs.

If you do not like Guild Wars 2, I’m sorry.

Many of us do like the game, and want Anet to develop it THEIR way so that it develops uniquely and is truly amazing in a few years.
…I don’t want GW2 to become a WoW clone.

If you like first person shooters, does that mean Anet needs to add a FPS minigame to GW2?

No.

My salvage ratio has always been 1:1 or better (on average).
Of course there are times when I salvage something and don’t get ecto…
and of course there are times when I salvage something and get 3 ecto.

bottom line is…. I don’t feel there have been any changes to the salvage chance of ecto (in the last month).

Back before HotW was nerfed, I would get significantly more ectos from salvaging my lvl 70 CoF dungeon vendor headgear. They nerfed ectos from salvages then, and I’m pretty sure there have been no changes to the salvaging since that nerf (months ago).

There was a way to complete the thirst slayer title relatively easily without actually paying anything for it. There were drinks at the end of the game celebration party that you could continually get and max the title that way. It would take a few hours of spamming the tables though. I’m not sure if this still exists or not, so when I get another character to max level I plan on finishing the title. I got too tired the night I was there the first time.

To be perfectly fair, if you are not traited to use axe or traited to use greatsword, you are losing 10-15% dmg

But…. if you are traited in one instead of the other…. it makes weapon swapping pointless.

I would prefer that pugs/randoms be traited completely in GS, burn their cooldowns… and then autoattack.

Has nothing/extremely little to do with guesting.

More of a problem with a low population cap on the map… and a high demand of getting there to do the event.

Even if there were no guests present, you are going to see an overflow.

While it may be true that there might be guests in any location at any time…. they are not the cause of this problem by any means.

No life/dedicated gamer/heavy grinder/TP mogul/Gems to gold/early exploiter/etc.

There are many ways one could achieve such a feat.

I feel that the current prices of precursors is a bit outrageous… and you are right in some aspects.

Some people got in early with the precursor market with the dusk exploit…. and they will always be thousands of gold ahead of everyone else.

It really is unfortunate that Anet did not remove these items from players’ accounts, and instead allowed them to gain an insane amount of wealth.

Some people borrowed money from friends, made a legendary, sold it immediately for a profit, and then had enough money to make 2 more legendaries…. (and so on…)

Some people are credit card warriors, and they dump a lot of real-life cash into the game.

Some people are just really lucky with precursor drops.

Heavy grinding… i see the best way of “grinding” is CoF path 1 repeats…. 6 min runs, at 7g/hr. …and that’s a bit steep…. but also plausible. The thing tho is that DR will lower your profits after that initial first hour. Enough grinding and you will eventually get the cash to afford a precursor tho.

All these things play a bigger role than “no life/dedication”
I’ve played the game almost every single day for hours and hours every day…
I have no life, and I am completely dedicated.

…and I still don’t have a legendary or a precursor.

TheBlackLeech.9360

Similar to the way the Guild Wars 1 costume system was set up, you should be able to mix and match your town clothing with your armor.

Toggling between town clothing and armor is just silly in my opinion.

You should be able to equip whatever costume pieces you want
(head, pauldrons, top, bottom, boots, etc)
and have a Visibility toggle for each individual piece.

Want a complete costume that you can wear in combat?
Toggle all pieces as visible.

Want to hide your costume and show your armor?
Toggle all pieces as invisible.

Just like the mad king’s costume headpiece?
Toggle that piece to visible, and all other pieces to invisible.

Don’t like the headpiece for a costume, but like the rest of the outfit…?
…I’m sure you get the idea already.

I can only see this improving costume sales, so its a win-win situation for us (the players) and for Anet!

This system worked fine for Guild Wars 1

Because of guild missions, our guild dwindles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TheBlackLeech.9360

We have a decent sized guild at 248 members. We have just enough influence to be able to queue guild treks when our economy level 6 is done. However, we keep losing members to guilds that already have other types of missions unlocked. We run bounties at least twice a week right now, but these other guilds are hostile towards us when we try to claim our bounties.

We have only had 1 player ever leave our guild before guild missions existed. Now we seem to have at least 1 per day. Those who respond to me when i ask why say they have joined a larger guild on our server that run these missions at least once a day.

Was this Anet’s intention? Our ability to unlock further missions relies on our active members. However, those members are the ones leaving to join larger guilds. I doubt we will lose more than 10% at any point, but this is still a knife in the heart.

Server Guesting must go! (Or change)

nope -1
There is no proof whatsoever that your overflow servers at events are due to guesting any moreso than they are due to high home server population.

Guests or not, if you get enough people in one place, an overflow is created.

I realize the plural of anecdote is not “data”, but before guesting I might have seen a dragon overflow once or twice a week, and ONLY on peak hours. After guesting I’m only able to get into the main playfield once or twice a week, if I show up 30-45 min before the spawn window, and it’s 4:00am (seriously, last night I was up at 3:30 and got overflowed showing up before the spawn window on The Shatterer).

Something needs to be done. It’s to the point where I can’t even do events on my own server anymore.

The overflow problems did not occur at the same time guesting was introduced but coincided with the loot upgrade (dragons and other big world bosses almost guarantee rares now).

This.

Guests or not, when you have enough people in one place at the same time you will get an overflow.

The new loot from the world event chests is the culprit… not guesting.

I am in a guild with almost 400 active members… many of which are constantly doing world events.

I asked in guild chat out of curiosity how many people guest to another server to do world events.

You may be shocked, or in disbelief when I tell you that there was only one person (out of the 75 ppl online and representing at the time) that said they guested once to do shadow behemoth. Everyone else said they were doing all the events on our home server.

A lot of people did not see the point in guesting to another server for an event, simply because there are enough world events happening all over our home server at different times, that you rarely have enough time to finish one before you need to move to another.

In addition…

I present to you a scenario.

Red marbles = home world players
Green marbles = guests
bucket = server

You have a bucket that can hold 100 marbles.

the marbles can be any color.

Most of the time the bucket is close to empty…
but at a certain time of day, this bucket get filled with marbles

Once there are 100 marbles in the bucket, you can not put any more in and must put them into a different bucket.

This bucket will not fit any more than 100 marbles.

Even if you say “No more green marbles in this bucket”
You are still going to fill the bucket with red marbles when the time comes.

I would also like to add that I don’t even do the world events and definitely have never looked at a dragon timer… and if I do happen to be in the same zone as an event, its home world only.

High home server population will produce an overflow without any guests at all.
Why do you blame guesting as if it is the issue here?

You are still going to get an overflow, guests or not.

Blame the dragon timers, blame the new loot from the chests, blame the size of the map population cap…. but for crying out loud….

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

My beef with Trahearne is that his characterization is implausible. Charisma cannot be a hidden attribute. The entire thing about charisma is in the way one deals with and handles other people. If his personality is not outstanding, then at least make him physically attractive? Whatever that means for a plant… But to convince us that a sulking, pessimistic, withering necro that shows negativity at every turn and speaks like the a pre-recorded propaganda broadcast would also be an extremely well-liked leader with bffs all over the world? No amount of suspension of disbelief could make this fantasy sound right.

His negativity does get better, as does the pessimism.

Trahearne: I must not lose faith. We were so close-closer than ever before.
Trahearne: Once, I thought my Wyld Hunt was futile. This failure would have shattered me.
Trahearne: But now…I see it as a challenge.
Trahearne: I know we can succeed. We must!

I just wish the Sylvari . . . other than the Nightmare Court members . . . had a slightly different voice direction. While I can pick out inflection and emotional responses, they really are subtle.

When dealing with large amounts of people you should not attempt subtle, because there’s a high chance nobody will pick up on it.

I have encountered this problem with voice direction before, mind you, so I know this was probably something that sounded good to the people conceiving it . . . but it fell flat to the audience. And you don’t blame the audience for not getting it, you wonder how you missed it.

wait…. are ALL sylvari supposed to be emotionless?

New Report Player Category - Hacking

in Suggestions

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Currently, there is a large group of players that seem to be falling through the cracks in the detection/report system in this game… and that would be the hackers.

While similar to botting in the sense that they are using a third party program to assist them in performing tasks in-game, I feel that botting and hacking belong in two separate categories.

Botting is where you run a script with minimal user input to play the game for you…
Hacking is something entirely different than that.

The most common type of “hacker” I’ve encountered is a person who is manipulating the game in such a way that he/she is able to essentially teleport around (large or small distances) jump over obstacles, or move at ridiculously high speeds.

I have seen players hacking, but when I go to report them… hacking doesn’t seem to fit into the “botting” category… so I hesitate.

Botters also combine teleport hacks into what I consider the worst thing this game currently has plaguing it .
(Bots that farm gathering nodes by harvesting and then teleporting to the next node, essentially making certain materials completely worthless due to high abundance)

Worst of all, I have a friend or two (players in my old guild) who have gotten accustomed to using hacks, and whenever I play with them…

A) I don’t know if they are hacking or not
B) They hack to do something stupid that doesn’t really benefit anyone
C) I am in fear of getting banned just for being on the same team (if they are hacking to benefit the team)

I can tell them to stop, and I ask them not to use hacks if I am in the party, but it doesn’t seem to effect them or their outlook.

Please do something to punish these players.
I don’t want to be around players who hack, and I don’t want them in this game at all.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

The voice acting for Trahearne is outstanding!

It is a masterful blend of supercilious tone, pendantic droning and neurotic uncertainty.

The actor who voices this distraught, depressed, indecisive analytic scholar deserves accolades for imbuing a lifeless twig with some semblance of tolerable personality.

.

ANet constantly asked: “Is this character memorable?”

The answer is a resounding “yes”.

There was no qualifier in there for enjoyable or loveable. Nor any question about whether the player would EVER want to see the kitten thing again.

I’m not sure if you are quoting what has been said in the past (by Anet) or what…
but the voice acting is really bad.

When people in the game are having a conversation…. it usually sounds as if they are talking to each-other.

When Trahearne is talking, he is always at least one or more of the following
A) Reading his lines (as if he were giving a speech) instead of having a conversation
B) Actually giving a speech, but sounds more like a robot than a motivational speaker.
C) Emotionless or his voice doesn’t match what feelings he should have.

Though he might change tones of individual words…. the tone of every line of dialogue is always the same. Even when he is supposed to be excited or happy, his celebratory remarks are the same as a person just reading “Yes, we have defeated Zhaitan” instead exclaiming “YES! We’ve defeated Zhaitan!!”

Post nerf; People just didn’t do Cathedral of Flame and other dungeons that couldn’t be speed cleared. Ah, history will repeat itself.

But every dungeon was able to be speed cleared, some were just more pug friendly than others.

I’d have been bored with Prophecies 7 months after it released, until Factions came out. Just the way it is. No one can offer you infinite content, because content takes time to make.

While this is true, this is not an excuse that I like to see people using.

Lots of games are released with more content than their predecessors (expansions included).

Also, they took several steps backwards from things that were established as good in Guild Wars 1.

The biggest example of a change from Gw1 to Gw2 that is complete garbage is the targeting system. Why on earth are we still stuck (today march 2013) with a targeting system that is based on your field of view? What was wrong with the targeting system in Gw1? Why are enemies not targetable at a certain distance? Why do you lose a target if you rotate your camera in the opposite direction?

In my honest opinion, Guild Wars 2 was an unfinished project when it was released.

It was lacking in so many areas.

Sure, some of these areas have been improved upon…. but the game itself still has a lot of flaws.

It is really upsetting that game companies can get away with releasing games as unfinished products…. but by the same token…. I’d rather be playing the game as it is now, unfinished, than still be waiting for it (and still playing gw1)

This game is amazing…. but I still shake my head in disbelief at how much better it should have been.

Ascended Earring Costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheBlackLeech.9360

TheBlackLeech.9360

Am I the only one that thinks it’s -absurd- that Ascended Earrings cost 45 Laurels and 50 Ectos each? They have lower stats than the rings, and even a single better stat item like the Ammy is only 35.

If anything they should cost 25 Laurels. What the blazes Anet? I understand you’re also introducing them with the Guild Missions system, but as that system really only caters to large guilds at the moment unless tweaked, this seems to be the only viable method for players in smaller guilds.

Am I off base here, or does anyone else agree?

I think the point is they don’t want you to use your laurels to buy them…
They want you to get them via guild missions.

The same way you can buy the rings with laurels… or get them from fractals.
To some, its a no-brainer…. to others, it seems like a good idea.

Bottom line is…. if it seems like a ripoff to go with one way instead of the other…. then go with the way you think is worth it.

Even though we were on our map, our server, our event – before it even started – we have been turned into second class players while guests and port ins were given higher priority. Some players had this occur to them multiple times over the day.

Your fix is not working.

because disconnecting mid-event means a guest stole your spot.
LOL nice logic.

Penalty system for sPvP + other changes

in Suggestions

Currently, the sPvP matchmaking system is terrible.

There is no penalty for players to ragequit in the middle of a match if they are losing.

When one person ragequits, the team they were on begins to suffer.

If nobody joins that team, chances are that another player will ragequit the room from that team.

When a team is two or more players shorter than the other team, the match autobalances.

This takes a player from the one (usually winning) team and throws him on the other (usually losing team).

The system essentially punishes the players who are on the winning team, and does nothing to the players who ragequit the losing team.

In addition to that… there is the matchmaking system….

Is it not possible to limit players from joining a match until 2 players are joining at the same time?

It should be even (as much as possible with leavers) from the beginning.
The matchmaking system is terrible.

Why not, at very least, limit respawns so there can be the same number of players alive on both teams at any given moment…. idk that might not be the best suggestion… but come on…

Another thing…. why do you allow players to switch teams, creating a deficit of a player on one team?

Example:
Match starts…. 5 players on each team.
player from red team decides he wants to play with his buddy on the blue team.
He swaps teams using the teamswap button.
Now red team has 4 players and blue team has 6 players…. and now the game must autobalance.

Why on earth would you let players do this?

It immediately creates an advantage to whatever team you just swapped to.

Please take out the team swap ability, add a queue to add 2 players at a time to a match (unless the teams are unbalanced, then balance of course), and add a penalty system to punish leavers.

Stability/Stealth need more hard-counters

You can actually predict accurately where he is during first contact as the limit on time per stealth(3s for most), they would be running towards you before the stealth disappears. If he enters stealth before he comes into combat with you, he is doing a few things

1) Using hide in shadows(bad move)
2) Using shadow refuge (Also, bad move, he won’t be able to use it later in the fight where it is most critical or if he decides to run)
3) Blinding powder

It’s highly unlikely that a thief would enable contact with a person in stealth due to the fact that is ruins the chain(they will get revealed on steal and will not be able to backstab).

You can also tell if you hit a thief by your auto attack chain. If it advances to the next skill, you hit him, pretty good tool. Although I wouldn’t recommend auto attack unless you are a high DPS auto attack profession. If you have AoEs, do not throw them randomly around. Throw them under you. If he wants to attack, he’s going to get hit.

If you see a thief, there’s a 90% chance he’s using a dagger offhand to stealth. Dodging that will deny him 90% of his stealth skills and waste his initiative. It’s very predictable and it has more than long enough cast time to dodge.

I have an “okay” strategy for fighting against thieves, and this was just a story.

The problem is, that very few skills do anything without a target (or act completely undesirably without a target)

Take a look at what rangers have at their disposal for example.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=List_of_ranger_skills

Bows and axe mainhand are just out of the question completely, being projectile based attacks.

I find the most useful skill of them all to be the greatsword. particularly counterattack

Whirling Defense is also very nice, but it does nothing to stop melee damage (backstab spam)

and a trap of your choice.

but even then…. what are you going to be wielding in your main hand for axe offhand?

Sword ?

Skill 3 in the autoattack chain (Pounce ) will send you flying across the map forever without a target. You can essentially hit the 1 key 2 times and be 10 miles away from where you started fighting. You want to be able kill the thief not forfeit the capture point and run away.

Here’s what I do on my ranger.
drop flame trap, equip greatsword, and swap to a pet that has condition removal skill.
Use counterattack, and when the thief triggers it, he will also set off the flame trap.
This will knock the thief back, so you then use Swoop (gap closer, and combo finisher:leap) and get flame aura.

I use hilt bash before he gets up, for an additional stun….

I then swap to sword axe and use whirling d.
When that is over, I place another flame trap.

the thief usually is stealthed and has used steal at this point.

I repeat the above gs move (counter)

As soon as I see the thief (he is unstealthed for a bit), I pet swap (which gives me quickness) and just autoattack him to death. The pet I swap to is polar bear and he has ice snare.
Sword skill 2 and 3 are also dodges.
I usually don’t even take any damage, but if I do… I still have my dodge rolls, traits for gaining protection on dodge roll, my heal, and my elite skill.

repeat as needed

Bottom line is…. while the thief is stealthed…. I can’t hit him with anything at my disposal on a ranger.
True, i can survive or scare him away from attacking me (or if he is dumb enough to stand in front of me while i am attacking the air blindly on greatsword, i can down him)

But I can only say that I down a thief when he is in stealth by pure luck…. or is a bad thief.
Downing him while he is visible however, I have down to a science.

Stealth is overpowered… or everything else is underpowered where there is no successful counter to it… but at the same time… thieves would be almost completely useless without it.
