Ancient Karka should be converted to a RAID!

The Thing is WOW is not a raid game anymore The Game is trash raiding died in that game 5 years ago when they made it so any 5 year old could do them just like GW2 dungeons are currently

Then surely that tells you there’s a problem with the mechanics not being challenging enough, rather than ‘oh, dungeons are too easy, that means we need raids’?

I dunno, Ancient Karka would make a great world event, providing:

  • Mechanics were challenging (rather than just big health, damage and dodging AoE. Maybe only certain environmental weapons can damage the outer shell. Maybe it eats its young to regain health, meaning you have to take care of adds. Not really challenging, but that was the best I could personally come up with.)
  • The fight had more than one angle to it (i.e. rather than everyone just pummeling onto him to kill him, players would have to block paths to drive it back down into wherever it came from, meaning players would have to organize into groups to achieve this, otherwise the Karka would just go wherever it liked. At the same time, some players would have to keep the Karka busy so it doesn’t go running off. Also, the Ancient Karka could call Karka from all around the island, meaning that the group keeping the Ancient Karka busy could get flanked, meaning another group would have to protect that groups rear)

We do have massive PvE. It’s just not at the stage (in terms of mechanics) that it could be considered challenging.

Improve the mechanics of the really big fights out in the open world, make them more ‘realistic’ (as in Evil McBadguy attacks settlements, as opposed to just landing away from civilisation; I mean, these Dragons are supposed to be a threat), and I feel these could take the place of instanced raids very well

Mention raid in title, check
People flood in making wow comparisons, check

I don’t think 2 people count as a flood

I support this as long as its implemented properly and works for GW2, it cannot be simply copy-pasted over from WoW as WoW has different mechanics.

Like I said, I have nothing against them, but I’d rather the really big fights (like the dragon Lieutenants [the actual Elder Dragons would be understandable, however, in terms of immersion, which I should have probably expanded on]) be improved to the point of near perfection.

i said mage’s for healing because if ur water u have healing skills

Elementalist. Yes, I’m that picky.

but the way i see it heres how to make everyone happy keep the game like it is but have a skill change and separate the pve gear for raiding when your enter a raid dungeon this won’t hurt you cryers on the game like no its not fair its to hard everythings to hard i want the game like call of duty just shoot shoot shoot and roll face all day god guys its not gonna hurt the game as long as its introduced correctly get over yourself let the game have the pie and eat it as well.

1) Why do you need separate gear and different skills if it’s a challenge of skill and teamwork? Stick with your usual gear and skills, and just implement challenging mechanics.

2) Raids don’t necessarily mean the content will be challenging. You kind of demonstrated that by saying WoW raiding is easy.

3) Believe it or not, not all people saying no to raids want everything to be easy.

the game doesn’t change and the pve players get what they want no one is unhappy and the best thing behind this is IF U DONT WANA RAID THEN DONT (*) RAID go back to your pvp and let us be

Players aren’t divided into Raiders and PvEers.

Like I said above, I’d rather them improve dynamic events to the point where people are forced to work together or fail. Then maybe implement Raids for the Elder Dragons, since, from an immersion standpoint, it makes sense.

1) Paragraphs. It was incredibly hard to read the first bit.

2) I disagree with bringing Tanks and Dedicated Healers. Instead, more mechanics that focus on situational and positional awareness, and awareness of your team-mates in place of this (i.e. mechanics that promote both teamwork and self-sufficiency). Also, not sure where you got ‘mages’ from.

3) You don’t need raids for a story. Each dungeon has its own story. Each area has its own story. Major NPC’s have their own story. That proves that you don’t need Raids to tell a story.

4) Raids won’t necessarily give people a reason to log in either. More challenging open world events (i.e. teamwork mechanics, more than one aspect to them ect) would, IMO, be far, far better than raids. Also, as a side note, more tasks for people to give something to work towards (Order Missions, Area Rep, Nic the Traveler ect)

5) While raids could bring structure, I also feel that same structure would take away immersion. These dragons are a threat, and they’re cooped up in somewhere? Rather than flying around in the open world, able to attack settlements at any moment?

TL;DR – While I have nothing against Raids, you don’t need them to make a game challenging or immersive, or for them to tell a story. You also don’t need the Trinity for mechanics that encourage teamwork

No one has a comment or any idea on how they could tweak this? This was one of the easiest karma grinds and probably the most popular.

There’s your answer as to why they nerfed it. If people are just hanging around / running between Pertinent Path and Plinx, then there’s obviously something wrong with it. Increasing the cool-down encourages people to go further out.

Although personally, I really can’t understand the mentality of wanting to do the same events over and over, simply because it’s most efficient.

Depends on the sword, but it’s very rarely a sword is held directly underneath the handguard (since it allows for more freedom of movement) and only a few techniques in Kendo grip the bottom of the sword handle like that (for example, Men [head] strikes), so I see your point.

Brainstorming: Progression Mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheDaiBish.9735

TheDaiBish.9735

Skill and Trait Hunting

They had the skill hunting in GW1, and finding Traits in the first iteration of GW2, which, to be honest, would have been pretty cool as a progression mechanic. It’d would have meant people would have progressed towards their play-style, rather than having everything at their feet already.

For future skills and traits, don’t automatically give it to the players, but make them hunt them down / work for them. Hell, if they introduce more trait levels, make people hunt the trait points down as well.

Skill Upgrading

Skill upgrades would improve the effectiveness of skills by giving them additional effects, which can be unlocked with skill points / found ect. Basically, this would be an expansion on the Trait system, specialised for the skills.

For example, Fireball: Increased Range OR Larger Splash area OR Applies Burning.

Ranks and Rep

A wasted opportunity IMO. Instead of elevating us in rank in the story, we stay a grunt, so to speak. Then out in the world we’d be able to raise our standing with that Order, giving us access to different items, titles ect.

Also, raising our reputation with different areas, thus lowering way-point costs and vendor costs, as well as unlocking new items.

Think of the rep in GW1.

Improve Achievements and Title Tracks

- Add titles along the way to mark your progress, as opposed to right just at the end.

- Skins (I like skins). For example, achieving Max rank in Drake Slayer would earn you Drakescale Armour, while Greatsword Master would earn you a kittenin’ Greatsword skin.

For Guild Progression

Guilds will be able to buy an instance for a certain amount of Influence.

When they buy this instance, at first, it’ll be empty, possibly with ‘critters’ they need to clear out.

The guild would then have to ‘research’ different ways for them to build their Hall. At first, the hall will be kind of shabby (think of a shed). But as you progress and master different crafting skills / hire NPC’s ect you’ll be able to build your Guild hall into something magnificent. Crafting benches could be added, as well as being able to hire Guild Craftsmen (for the Guild Gear), and other NPC’s that benefit guild members.

Of course, materials would have to be gotten from out in the world (Wood, Rock [added to the mining loot table]), meaning that Guild Hall progression couldn’t be made just inside that instance.

When built, the Guild would then be able to earn Achievements in PvE, WvW and SPvP to display in their Guild Instance, which they can invite people in to see.

Does magic find affect blue/green droprate?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d say it’d affect any item with a loot table.

Say a green item has a 10% chance of dropping, 100% MF would give it a 20% chance of dropping. Obviously, the rarer the item, the less of a chance the item has of dropping, and then it ends up something you only really see the effects of in the long run.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

We already have precedent (the back piece). And can see current recipes.
But your reasoning is that if they completely change the system from what it is currently, it might work. Is that a reasonable assumption to make?

We’ve got the recipes for all of the Ascended gear already? I know what the back-piece recipe is, but what about the Rings? I think they were released in this patch anyway.

As to what I was saying: we don’t have the recipe for Ascended Armour or Weapons, or the new Legendary items. Therefore we can’t automatically assume that the process will be the same as the current Legendary weapons (given that they’re changing the way pre-cursors are gotten).

So I guess you could say that. At the same time, I’m saying wait and see before automatically assuming that people won’t be able to work at both goals at once.

How does collecting the mats for ascended gear not directly compromise their progress for Legendary gear?
Legendary’s are still just as expensive.
Once they have their Ascended gear, then they still hit the “Legendary wall”.

Can you explain how this closed a gap?

I can’t. They haven’t released the other gear yet (although I’m aware that the back piece requires Ecto’s, Skill Points and T6 mats), so 1) we don’t know how it’s made for definite and 2) we don’t know the process in which the new Legendary items are made. They’ll be introducing a Scavenger Hunt for the pre-cursor. What’s to say they won’t change the rest?

That’s why I said ‘if they do it right’, rather than make it a statement of fact that you’d be able to.

I did not say stat gap, did I?

Thing is simple. No matter what you’re wearing, full set exo or full set asc, what you need for legendaries are fixed.

1) So what’s the meaning of asc gears? To let those who have spent too much time online and have already felt boring have something to do?

2) Yeah, 1 day to gain backslot asc gear, Anet’s wonderful plan would allow those boring guys to enjoy 20 more days ….

Perfect plan ever ….

1) Progression. As I said, if they do it right then it’ll be a goal to work towards alongside Legendary. If not, then they serve no other purpose.

But as I said above: they’ll be introducing new Legendary items along with Ascended items. We don’t know the process of creating them, so we can’t comment whether or not it’ll work like that. It’s just a case of waiting and seeing.

2) Some people work faster than others. It’s a fact. They said that people were achieving Exotics way faster than they expected. For all we know, this could be a basic back-piece that has a process to increase the Infusion slots / priming it to become a Legendary back-piece.

If they keep their promise, those legendaries will have the same cap with ascended items. So where is the “gap between gears” they mentioned?

They’re not talking about a gap in stats. They’re talking about a gap in a goal / progression.

Exotic armour and weapons were laughable easy to get (this coming from someone who plays 4 hours or less a week), so they needed to introduce another short-term goal in the meantime while people worked on the Legendary weapons, and for those who didn’t want Legendary (Named Exotics also had quite hefty requirements).

I’m not saying they should have raised stats or whatever, but that’s sort of what they mentioned in the Ascended gear blogpost:

“As we watch Guild Wars 2 mature in its Live environment, we have found that our most dedicated players were achieving their set of Exotic gear and hitting “the Legendary wall.” We designed the process of getting Legendary gear to be a long term goal, but players were ready to start on that path much sooner than we expected and were becoming frustrated with a lack of personal progression.”

If they pull this off right, people should be able to work towards their Ascended gear without compromising their progress for Legendary gear.

Because it’s a middle step between Exotics and Legendaries.

There is no legendary armour. There are no ascended weapons.

So how exactly is it a “middle step”…?

“We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future”

Ascended weapons and other Legendary items (which could mean armour, since they used the word ‘items’ and not ‘weapons’) will be coming later. They said they’re spreading the release of Ascended items out so people have a chance to get the previous items first.

I’d say make Story Mode solo-able, but keep Explorable Mode as group content.

If you go making everything solo-able, then people won’t group up, simply because it’s more convenient.

Not seeing how that would be a good thing for an MMO.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

TheDaiBish.9735

I’m in the ’let’s see how it turns out’ camp, since we don’t nearly have enough information on how Infusions work ect (which makes a point. Next time you implement something, please make a detailed post on how it works first time around. You’re not going to keep everyone happy, but it’ll stop a lot of misunderstandings). However, no matter how it works, I’ll still play. The game is fun, and I enjoy it.

Now, they also said that they’ll be working on other progression systems. The ‘other’ in there suggests that it isn’t going to be related to higher stats.

Personally, I think they should have kept the Hunting Traits thing, and brought in Skill Hunting from GW1. With Skill Hunting then, you could introduce Weapon Skill swapping, so players could further customize their play style.

Maybe even hunting trait points for doing tasks related to a Trait Line. Give players the ability to research and buy upgrades for their skills to adapt their play-style (for example, Fireball splash radius is increased OR it applies Burning OR the range is increased).

They also missed a form of progression with the Orders choice. Rather than making you a high-ranking officer in the story, you’re a grunt. In the world then, doing Missions will raise your ranking. The higher your rank, the harder the missions become, you get access to more items, access to Order skills (PvE only) and you get a title each rank.

Talking about Rep / Ranking, maybe bounties for each area. Completing these bounties (with bonus rewards that add more rep) reduces Waypoint cost, and the cost of Items in that area. Maybe opening up more Merchants and recipes (kind of like Hearts).

TL;DR 1 – Write and Post Detailed Explanations Straight Away
TL;DR 2 – Try To Think Of Other Ways Of Introducing Character Progression That Doesn’t Require Increasing Stats

I think (read: crossing my fingers and hoping) this is how they plan on implementing it: no stat increases outside of the Fractals, just Infusions, which can only be used inside of them.

They mentioned something about 3 different types of Infusions: Offensive, Defensive and Omni. Hopefully it’ll work like, for example:

  • Offensive – The longer you’re affected by Agony, the higher your crit chance (capped at x%)
  • Defensive – When Agony is applied, you gain Protection for X seconds.
  • Omni – Eh, I got nothing for this one. Unless it raises both damage and defense, and is rarer / less increase that a purely Offensive / Defensive Infusion.

It is just sad that this is what some of you do with your lives. Sit here day after day, and wait around to have an argument with someone about a video game. Then you try to escalate things to a point where you can get emotionally involved, so you can feel something. So much time has to go into your posts, and what are they really? Petty arguments, that do little more than bash an idea, and boost your own egos.

Fair enough. But there’s a difference between bashing a post, and critiquing it to help you develop your idea. Maybe someone sees an angle you haven’t.

I don’t think Legendary weapons should be made guild tasks.

1) Not everyone is in a guild, and the game shouldn’t force it so.

2) If the guild can help each other without the game forcing it, this will make for a stronger guild. Ultimately, the game should only hold your hand so far. Creating a strong community / guild is up to the players mostly.

3) Legendary weapons are more of a personal goal. If you want a guild goal within game, suggest something else. Maybe a title, guild ranking system, perks that need to be researched through guild tasks, guild achievements ect.

Correct me if I’ve missed the point, but that just goes to show that you need to make your suggestion clearer.

Can’t say I’m terribly impressed, but there’s still a few things I think they should clarify:

1) Will Ascended armour be upgradable with Runes?

If not, then the minor boost in stats is somewhat understandable (Given that Runes also provide specific stat increases, an overall boost in stats makes it more like the Triforge Pendant: Increase in stats across the board, but not higher than specialised gear). In which case, Exotics may still be better for specific builds (i.e. builds that focus on boons, increased condition damage ect)

2) Will Infusions act like Runes in the sense that they provide specific stat upgrades and bonuses, or will they be specifically for the Agony / FotM mechanic?

3) Will Ascended gear be guaranteed, random drops or require multiple play-through to get?

If the gear will be guaranteed, therefore progression being guaranteed, I wouldn’t have too much of a problem with this, providing I don’t have to repeat content to get it. If I have to repeat content with no guarantee of progression, I’d have a problem with that.

4) How will the personal difficulty thing work?

For example, someone who has just started wouldn’t be able to group with people that are on level 20 difficulty, because of the need for the Ascended armour against the Agony mechanic.

5) After this tier, will stats increase again, or will the only progression revolve around Infusions, therefore keeping the progression in the Fractals only?

I still think we’re missing some info:

  • Will Ascended armour be upgradable with Runes? If not, increased stats make sense (to bring it on par with runes, and to make up for the lack of bonuses). If this is the case, then Exotics may yet still be the best for WvW (I mean, what would you rather have: that bit of extra power of that bonus that fits your playstyle?).

Hmm, I’d say it depends on what Infusions do (as in, do they give stats, or are they completely related to the Agony mechanic). If not, them additional stats look to be making up for the lack of Rune / Jewel slot.

The title is actually referring to The Guild Wars, an event in the history of the GWverse. The TL;DR version is that it was a war between Orr, Kryta and Ascalon.

I don’t think locking a keep from being taken would be a good idea, simply because if this happened, people would be zerging around more to go capture as many places as they can, without the need for defending the place.

Everyone is boosted to 80 as well so they have least got a chance to help out (even if it’s just recruiting the NPC’s, or waylaying supply caravans).

In my book, the fast majority of players don’t want a gear treadmill at least if the TS’ and forums I logged in today are representative. Yes, it probably would split the player base, but it would also do way less harm than their current actions.

And no, I don’t think we should wait until Ascended Gear is out. Now is the time to make clear that we don’t need a gear treadmill, not after it’s already too late.

Yes, you can have the trinity back. And raids. And mounts. And whatever else I forgot. If Arenanet is going to betray their principles and their customers, they might as well go all the way.

You might want to see a doctor about that kneejerk you got.

Seriously. I don’t understand why people can’t wait for official info before QQing. If it does turn out to be a gear treadmill, then QQ.

You might want to pay attention to that IF in my post. Furthermore, read the title of this thread. If a premature assumption was made, it was there. Seriously, I don’t know why people don’t read before attacking others mindlessly.

Apologies if it wasn’t your intention, but even with the ‘if’ in your post, it still does sound and read like a QQ post over this whole new armour issue.

But again, apologies for the misunderstanding.

This is why I hate forums, you just try to post your idea, but no someone always has to try to start a fight over nothing. This is the exact reason I asked no one to post at all. I said it very rudely so maybe you might just take a hint, but I guess not. Please stop responding to this post.

You really should re-write your suggestion, you know.

It’s sort of confusing to read. Get straight to the point, and people can critique that as opposed to anything else.

Disagree.

More mechanics that encourage team-play and co-ordination over the Trinity would be preferable.

Also, on your comment on ‘making it more enjoyable for MMO players’. Everyone feels different. For every person who wants the Trinity back, you’ll get someone who doesn’t.

right….“millions of people on your side”

The grind-for-stats World of Warcraft still has more people playing than this so-called “grind-for-appearance” game.

that is the inconvenient truth fanboys don’t want to see. lol

People, like yourself, seem to forget WoW didn’t get that player base size a few months after release.

How about putting power/vitality/toughness stats and as exotics to the the Hall of Monuments’ items since exotics will be subpar anyway?

So when i make a character, i will just be concerned about leveling it to 80, then i would just go to hall of monuments to get exotic armor and use that to grind the uber ascended armor?

regards,

Possibly because not everyone has access to the Hall of Monuments? Just saying.

As for the Ascended armour, we have no concrete info from ANet yet (for all we know, them articles could have been assumptions).

Well … i cant disagree of what your guild seeks in a game , that is for sure.

But i can disagree that this game should at any point in the future implement “raids”.

I honestly like the 5 man dungeons , and i remember doing the raids back in WoW … it was annoying to say the least. To even think i would need to do it all over again … god no.

Point is, ANet could implement it so it’s not ‘required content’ or ‘end-game content’, merely content for larger PvE guilds.

And I found that with raiding, it wasn’t the actual raiding itself. It was the need to keep running content over and over to get to the point where I could raid. And then having to do this process over again next patch.

People just can’t wait to judge and assume someone is wrong, most of the time about nothing. I don’t think even one of you understand what I am getting it, I truly think that you do though. Please don’t write anymore responses you are just muddying up my idea with pity little arguments.

If someone would like to send me a link, or tell me how to send my suggestions to the developers directly please do, I was under the assumption this was the best place for a suggestion about the game considering it is the suggestion forum. I would greatly prefer it if my ideas could just be sent to the devs, rather than checking back on them to see someone saying you’re wrong about this, you’re wrong about that, blah blah blah.

Try reading my sentence about guild wars 2 again, I didn’t say it was named that because it is only about guilds did I? I said its in the name, meaning it is part of the game, not what you guys are implying. I think you guys focus to much on your pity arguments to understand people.

1) There’s no such system of sending suggestions straight to the devs. That IS what this forum is for, until such a time they figure a way. Believe it or not, you aren’t the only person who thinks their idea is important.

2) And while you’re saying that ‘guilds is in the name, therefore it’s about guilds’, expect responses from people telling you that the title has nothing to do with guild’s in game. These are not pity arguments. These are merely us telling you WHY the game is named as such.

3) For all that writing, I didn’t see a single suggestion laid out plain and simple for the devs. You might want to consider re-wording your suggestion to ‘Make Legendary Weapons more of a Guild Task’, actually spelling out your suggestion clearly, and make it easier to read (paragraphs, for example). If you want the devs to read your suggestion, at least make it plain as day for them, since yours isn’t the only suggestion they’d read.

Well Arena Net could also put in a function and Special NPC’s that can spawn a World Event on request from a Guild Leader or Officer, that everyone could join in and participate with and drop the proper rewards for the event. That way Guild’s could have some planning and control to bring the guild together for an event and foster commaraderie within the guild; while allowing outsiders to join in.

Except then you’d either have a) people farming them events, since they’d be events on tap or b) camping the NPC waiting for a cooldown to expire.

Not saying they’d be a bad idea (GW had 8 or 12 man runs), but they’d have to find some way to ensure that people spent time out in the world as well as in the raids.

Maybe you have to collect event tokens to purchase a Raid Key that gives you a shot at it?

As much as I got nothing against raids as a form of content, a thought struck me the other day: They could actually hurt the game.

Since a lot of the large group content is out in the world (making it accessible), if you go making instanced large group content, then where are all the guilded players going to go? And in turn, what happens to the players that are left out in the world, unable to do all of these big events because players are in instanced content?

Rather than have all the big group content behind a door, why not bring more, larger group content into the world? Where organised guilds can make a difference?

1) Game is named after The Guild Wars (a massive war between Kryta, Ascalon and Orr). You know The Battle of Khylo map? Well, that was a battle in the lore as well.

2) While the overall theme of the game might be about the Dragons, that’s not always the reason people play. Some log is specifically for the WvW and SPvP, and don’t touch PvE.

Legendary weapons aren’t the only expensive weapons in game. Look at Wintersbite, Foefire’s Essence and Infinite Light. Saying that Legendary weapons divide the community is like saying named exotics do. At the end of the day, they’re goals for people to aim at.

And while, yes, you will get some guilds that won’t work together, you’ll also get guilds that help each other achieve their desired goal.

If this all Anet plan to have for character advancement, they truly are stuck 10 years in the past on their GW1 platform, which today, is not what this genre of gamers want.

Nope. In this day-and-age, MMO players want better stats constantly.

While I agree that some more character enhancement is needed, I don’t believe that stats and power-creep are the only way (hunting skills and traits, as well as upgrading skills; horizontal progression as opposed to vertical).

While I wouldn’t mind giving Legendary weapons some perks (being able to swap the Inscription outside of combat, for example), I disagree on giving them a straight-up boost in stats.

As for your designs, they strike me as more Exotic that Legendary. No offense.

Also, hi to Frotee, who appears to be a Dresden fan.

Those wanting the requirement of maxing the appropriate weapon master skill are forgetting some huge problems with this.

Maxing shield is such an uphill battle that it requires purposefully wasting a skill to get killing blows. Yes, WASTING a skill. The guardian one is for aoe tag damage and for applying protection (best saved for when a mob is winding up an attack you cant avoid or don’t want to move from your spot) while the warrior skill is best used for interupting a skill rather than as a go to skill. Secondary skills for both cause no damage. Using the skills to kill something is a waste of a skill if it isn’t the last mob in a pack or a solo kill.

What about warrior’s that use warhorn? Hint: neither skill does damage, thus can’t get weaponmaster for the horn.

Weaponmaster stats are also shared across all characters further making this a BAD choice. Legendary weapons are designed to be character based (hence why map completion is required).

Ahhh, touche, my friend.

Then what about a Sigil of Potential? This would be Stage 1 (excuse the name)

Some legendary blacksmith (who spawns in a random place each day) can craft one of these for you. They require:

  • Gift of Exploration
  • Bloodstone Shard
  • x amount of Obsidian Shards

When applied to any level 80 exotic, this will cause the weapon to gain XP in every fight. At the end of every level, the players must kill a certain boss / participate in a certain DE before they can gain any more XP. Weapon XP isn’t affected by XP boosters.

When the weapon has gained the equivalent of, say, 80 levels of XP, the blacksmith will send you a randomised list of materials he needs to create a Pre-Cursor out of a Potential weapon. This randomised list will contain:

  • x amount of lodestones (how do they work?)
  • x amount of random T6 fine crafting mat
  • An item that is randomly spawned in the world (picture clue)
  • An item that is randomly spawned in the world (lore test)
  • 30 amount of item only available from Daily Achievements (would only appear once you have hit level 80).

Bring all these to him, and he’ll craft you a [Weapon i.e Greatsword] of Potential (i.e. the pre-cursor). Why not Dawn, Dusk ect? I’ll explain now.

Stage 2 – Preparing the Pre-Cursor

With the [Weapon Of Potential], the blacksmith will give you a long generic list of things you needs to do:

  • All Dragons (item will be lootable from chest at L80)
  • All Jumping Puzzles (item will be lootable from chest at L80)
  • All Dungeons and Paths (item will be lootable from bosses at L80. Dungeon Gifts will also be needed)
  • All Meta Events (item will be lootable from chest at L80)
  • Participate in all Holiday Events

and a generic list of things he needs to craft:

  • X amount of Orichalcum
  • X amount of Ancient Wood
  • X amount of Icy Runestones
  • X amount of each lodestone
  • X amount of Ectoplasms
  • X amount of each T6 material
  • X amount of Obsidian Shards
  • X amount of Crystals from Miyani
  • X amount of Soulbound Holiday Crafting Mats
  • An Eldritch Scroll

Along with this, he’ll also give you randomised Daily Tasks (one specific event, one specific dungeon, one specific jumping puzzle and one specific dragon), in order for the pre-cursor to gain ‘experience’. Once you do these, talk to him and he’ll give you a Shard of Experience. You need X amounts of Shards as well.

Give all of this to him, and it’ll activate a quest to go ‘forge’ the weapon, where you have to protect the blacksmith, and slay a spawned Champion with the new weapon (maybe in Mount Maelstrom?). After this, you’ll have a [Weapon] of Legendary Potential.

Stage 3 – Making It Your Own

Remember where I said we wouldn’t have Dusk ect? This is why.

Making this part unique to the skin allows each weapon to have a number of skins without needing to create lots of additional content. This is also where a place in lore would help.

So, let’s take Twilight, for example.

Twilight was Grenth’s sword in the fight against Dwayna (possibly not true, but work with me here). So, in order to forge Twilight, we need to create a Gift of Darkness, and take it to the Temple of Grenth in Orr, where a spirit will spawn at a specific time during the night cycle for a certain amount of time. He’ll send you on daily tasks to retrieve ‘tributes’. When you’ve given enough tributes, then he’ll combine the Gift of Darkness with [Weapon] of Legendary Potential.

Well note something , if there was really some ubber quest or some other crazy way to get them , we would never see many of them implemented … end of story. Too much cost to simple add 1 weapon few would even get anyway.

The way it is now , there is still hope we will see other kinds of the same weapon , like the greatsword.

If i had to pick , i prefer to have many kinds to pick , over an cool quest to get 1 i dont want anyway.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be that way, since there are already things in the world that could make the process more interesting:

Say, for example, each character is assigned 24 random co-ordinates on the map (at Points of Interests, maybe Vista’s for visual clues) per weapon (1 for each zone) when they are created. Them co-ordinates then create the first clue and exclusive chests for that character when they reach max rank in Weapon Master.

So, for example, I make my character, get to 80, get max rank in Greatsword, and I get my first clue:

“Behold, he who befriended the enemy and shook of the tyrants of his people”.

I go to examine the statue of Pyre Fierceshot, and there’s a chest in that area that contains 1 part and another clue, indicating to one of the next part. It’s a picture of s skull and a waterfall, so I head off to the Pirate jumping puzzle. At the end of that, there’s another piece, clue ect.

That part would be completely unique for each character. Make a clue for each Point of Interest and Vista and make the clues assigned and the order completely at random.

Next part would be somewhat linear (kill dragons to get unique item, kill explorable mode bosses to get unique item, ect ect), and then the next bit would be totally dependent on the weapon, and the ‘lore’ for it.

For example, Twilight was Grenth’s weapon against Dwayna and Sunrise was Dwayna’s weapon against Grenth (work with me here). So while you got the same pre-cursor (Greatsword of Potential), depending on how you finish it would depend on the skin, meaning they could implement more than one skin for each weapon.

The problem I have with them already is that by the time you get them you’ve done everything. Which leaves me wondering whats the point in getting it then if there’s nothing else to do?

Because by the time you’ve done everything the game has to offer (and I’m talking about every dungeon, every big boss event ect. Hell, make it hardcore so you need holiday event items like the book we got), chances are there’s going to be another content patch out, giving you stuff to do.

Legendary weapons would be kept with the core part (so the world we have now) and in expacs, the first released part of that, ensuring that you’ll still have something to do after that isn’t part of the Legendary process.

Agree.

To be honest, I reckon our character’s shouldn’t be aware of Legendary weapons until we have Max Weapon Master for that weapon (i.e. Greatsword for Twilight).

Maybe a treasure hunt with riddles that makes us gather unique parts (ANet have already shown that they can make unique nodes, so this would prevent a guide being made). Then we got to take to the core of Mount Maelstrom while the event is going on to forge into the pre-cursor.

Then you got to ‘temper and quench’ the pre-cursor by:

  • Imbibing it with the essence of the most powerful creatures (Dragons)
  • Collecting ancient artifacts of power from the deepest places (Dungeons)
  • Decorating it with the skill of a Master Craftsman (Crafting)
  • Show all of the good deeds you have done all around, and for everyone (Karma + World Competion) and the skill you’ve aquired on your journeys (Skill Points).

In short, show that you have done everything the game has to offer

This is where Legendary weapons would benefit from a place in the lore, since that would dictate how you’d go about restoring it to Legendary status (i.e. Twilight needs to be forged during the night, while Sunrise needs to be forged during the day. Minstrel would need music played to it [different for each player], Kudzu taken to its root, and Bifrost taken to the place where it is said that Earth was connected to the God’s).
