I’ve never had such lag issue until recently and now I am constantly rubber banding in game. I’ve called my ISP and confirmed that neither my computer nor modem/router is the problem.

Trait unlock should be accountbound, period. I’ve paid over 100g and 400 skill points on two characters post April patch. Now I am way too scared to even create new alts. And no it is not fun to do same activities over and over again on different toons. I’ve suffered enough, so make the trait acquisition accountable, or at least revert it to original state.

Thanks to everyone who were kind enough to reply on my rant. I just wanted to tell anet how frustrating the entire PvP system is when it comes to newcomers. Well after writing this post, I’ve played about 20~25 matches of Solo Q, 3~5 matches of Team Q, and what I’ve realized was a serious rubberbanding in matchmaking system. If I am on a winning streak, anet tries to stop me with every cheese it can throw, from skyhammer to 4v5 to 3v5. If I am on a losing streak, Anet will also try to rubberband me by placing me with team of high rank players vs really low rank/entry players.

Matchmaking system in gw2 pvp is terrible, and the leaderboard is a joke no doubt, but this game has some serious issue with rubberbanding and wanting to keep players such as myself at 50:50 win/loss ratio. I’ve just had a match with 2 new rabbit players in solo Q vs team of sharks and dragons when I was on my third winning streak. It didn’t matter how hard I tried, I could not do a single thing to flip the table. From having 50%+ winning, I went right back down to 50%. I’m speculating that once I go down below 50% winning rate, Anet will bump me back up again.

Instead of proving myself as a good pvp player, I’m only used as a tool to either bump or raise people’s rating. Also instead of earning my ranks and finishers because of my skills, it is all about getting lucky and having great teammates. I haven’t noticed many same players because I play at odd hours and random times, but if Anet wants to host a pvp tournament and gives away free legendary/money, they are not doing it right.

Theys Pros and Con’s to this, Playing with people far more experienced than you while frustrating to Loose vs them sometimes even get dominated by them, It teaches you a lot of things, Eg. NOT to go for NPC straight from the get go. Learning what engagements you should get in and which ones to avoid and do something else.

If you stayed with the same skilled players it’ll be harder to improve. as you don’t need to think about what you do, as in every match the thief will probably run on point and tank every piece of AoE the team has to offer and rise and repeat.

I went through the same thing and it made me a better player I’m Rank80 and been since after April 15th, but rank doesn’t always mean skilled i’ve played vs and with same ranked guys who seem to have just started the game. wasting Dodges on Auto attacks and then face tank their burst as they were so easily baited to dodge roll.

I understand where you are coming from, but there is a huge difference between gradually improving vs massacred til you lose all interest in specific gameplay. As I said, people of rabbit/deer rank aren’t given clear instruction on which engagement to avoid, what types of skill certain classes/professions use most, and the combos+skills that players use based on their traits and such. There are just too many things to take care of as well as being aware of maps/team fight composition, cooldowns, that average players like myself often forget to rez people even in downstate.

Also the concept of hardrally is pretty difficult to comprehend if a user never played wvw/pvp before. Most people ignore any downed enemies and try to rez their teammate only to be stomped. The entire PvP experience is also different from most of the gameplay because unlike wvw and pve, having a bad teammate or two can be detrimental to win/loss situation. PvP is simply too punishing for any newcomers who aren’t well versed in that area.

People ultimately want to get better, but then only few are willing to play the game after being stomped millions of times without knowing why or how to counter/prevent such situation other than going afk. PvP base will only diminish further and further unless Anet comes up with new patch which also include different maps/types of gameplay

So I’ve been trying to get better at pvp, and I’ve recently moved from rabbit to wolf in two~three months. My main is guardian as in WvW and PvE, so I’ve learned/watched/played a fair number of matches using meditation build, support/bunker build, and hybrid build. The matches that I usually do are mainly solo Q and hot joins, although I do sometimes join team Q with full guild members.

That said, I really do think there is an immense gap between existing players in PvP playbase and newcomers such as myself. In rabbit and dear rank, I was matched up with people of my rank, and although game lacked any strategies and capturing/fighting in nodes, I still had fun. The problem started when I reached dolyak rank and I was facing shark/phoenix/dragons as my opponents. Now I know that after April patch finisher ranks have lost their prestige to certain extent, but it was still overwhelming for me to handle.

From casually winning/losing game while learning how to utilize PvP tactics such as LoS on rocks/walls, positioning, personal skill combos/etc, I am now matched up with people who are at least decent to excellent in their professions. After losing 10+ matches straight, I’ve lost intrested in PvP for a while and retreated to WvW and Pve. After a month or two, I’ve tried PvP again because of new trek rewards and PvP finishers, and I was able to endure all of Skyhammer, 4v5, 3v5, afkers, people with amazing skills and people with no skills to achieve wolf rank.

The problem I see is that matchmaking system is terrible and it is the main reason why people don’t want to PvP anymore. As an experienced PvE player who can earn 30~40g+ a day just by selling paths and running dungeons/fractals, I personally think lack of reward isn’t the problem. The community toxicity is much lower than what I’ve expected from such competitive players and gameplay itself is very fast paced and exciting. However the problem comes from high learning curves, very short/unnoticeable animations depending on skills/race and the horrible, horrible match making. There is no way that I’d ever want to play against a team of dragons and phoenixes when I am only starting to learn how to read animations and apply my own skill combos, or deal with 4v5/3v5 while receiving meager 300 rank points.

Anet should implement much better making software/program and try to attract more people for PvP since there is almost no unity in this type of gameplay. At least in WvW people are grouped into servers, whereas in PvP even friends and guildmates are prone to fighting each other. A new gameplay mode such as capture the flag/deathmatch/etc can be a short term fix, but anet should do much more than hosting some tournaments because frankly it has lesser viewers than DnT PvE tournament. There should be certain benefits for PvP players such as increase trek progression by 5% in guild upgrade system and/or comprehensive guide made by Anet devs themselves to help newcomers.

As of now I am taking break from PvP once again due to RL reasons and WvW tournament, but I really wish PvP gets some major patch as much as I wish for new dungeons/fractals in PvE. I really hope Anet drops Living World as their main focus and start working on other gameplays that really need fixing and revamping, but I don’t think I will see that until release of gw3. Just my two cents :P

@TheFamster ; i completely understand your point man. I have been at the same point as you are right now and i still hate gettibg no reactions on our wishes and desires..
Just donating some gems for the tournament will not change the bad state PvE is in right now. But unfortunately they focus more on WvW and PvP Tournaments; best example. PvE Tournament is held by Players themselves; WvW and PvP Tournaments are held by Anet. But tbh. what should we do mate ?

I for my part will still help new players because i have been a noobie too back in the days.. Without the tips and general help i got from some players out there, i could not be zhe big bad elitist i am now..

I would still help people, but now I am refraining myself from going to LFG such as @ lupi need help/ P (1~3) first time. If the person joins my guild/becomes my friend, that is a different thing. I’ve gotten kicked more than 100+ when I was learning Arah, so I’d occasionally drop in just for lupi fight, help them get to last boss in p1~p3, then leave so that other players can take the tokens/gold.

I really respect what hardcore dungeon runners/occasionally helpful PUGS/[Noob] and people in this thread do to help out the new players, but I’m just so sick of Anet that I can’t do it anymore. Unless Anet decides to release even a mini dungeon/update fractal, then I’d actively help new players even at the risk of being kicked. But if this lack of contents goes on, then I’d rather have new players fend for themselves while I run dungeons with my “casualcore” friends/guildies

Hi guys!

I wanted to give you a quick rundown on what involvement Customer Support takes regarding Dungeons; specifically where trading wealth is involved. Let’s look at the two parts of this:

1. We do not reimburse wealth lost to other players for any reason if it is outside of the Black Lion Trading Post. This is because Customer Support can not duplicate wealth. With the volume of requests coming in we alone would damage the economy if we were to restore wealth lost when trading takes place.

2. We terminate accounts permanently for defrauding (scamming). If you are found to make a deal to trade (say, sword for gold) and not hold up your end we will investigate and terminate. If you are the victim of a scam you should submit a support ticket and provide what you lost and the time and date as accurately as you recall. This is usually all we need to research the event but we will ask you if we need more info. You do have a right to know the outcome of these investigations but be aware these take us a few days to resolve.

Please be sure to include the full details of your trade via game chat (any channel is fine) in Guild Wars 2
We absolutely must be able to see the deal being made to find guilt. Do not use voice chat software or other means to communicate while making a sale/trade.

Again; this will help us terminate accounts that are cheating other players but will not result in a recovery of your losses.

Please understand that you are allowed to trade outside of the BLTP – but you will not receive replacements for lost items or gold. The same goes for selling dungeon runs. CS will not suspend or terminate you for selling runs. We will, however, take action if you take payment and not fulfill your end of the bargain.

I’ll watch this thread for questions and clarify where needed. Thanks!

I think this belongs in Guild Wars 2 discussion/Black Lion Trading Co…
Or this: Find a dungeon seller, send gold, invite friends and kick the original path seller, report him/her for scam and get the account banned…

Should we actually help new players?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TheFamster.7806

TheFamster.7806

So much frustration in this lil’ thread..
The main issue in this game is people refusing to comunicate.
If someone says that he is new to dungeon X at the start, he will get threatened different than without saying anything!
Dungeons themselves are simple.

It is not just about mis-communication, but us dungeoners getting exploited by Anet without any benefits. In two year span, we were only given fractal and aetherpath, both suffering from terrible rewards as well as hardcore RNG. Also if Anet is so invested in new players, isn’t it their job to teach users how to do dungeons on their “intended” way? [Noob] guild is a community effort without any backing of Anet other than the thread being sticky. But Anet refuses to release any new contents for dungeon/fractal in general and most of the times ignores the plea of dungeon community.

Meanwhile Anet continues to stab any dedicated dungeon runners in the back through various patches, including the reset of fractal leaderboard, terrible RNG drop of fractal/aetherpath weapon skins, lack of rewards for high level fractal (getting nothing rings/uninfused rings at 40+), absolutely no new dungeons, and now instance hijacking and refusal to intervene in any unfair LFG kick. If Anet doesn’t acknowledge its dungeon runners and remove any protection (or what was left there), why should the community help Anet?

There is absolutely no new contents for dungeon runners, even when the dungeon community provided detailed guide, videos and websites at no cost. And yet Anet dissolved dungeon teams and continues to rely on user base. There should be give and take relationship formed between developers and users, in which developers “reward” various groups of gamers through release of new contents or new rewards. Anet simply takes and milks through gem store while level gating/rehashing old contents as new and continues to ignore a fairly large and important player base. Well many, including PvP, WvW and Dungeons.

Solo Q - Playing on more than 3 objectives

in PvP

Posted by: TheFamster.7806

TheFamster.7806

You only play soloq if you’re a masochist.

I presume that it’s people that want to consider themselves more serious (or just want more rewards) than hotjoin and (reasonably) don’t want to go through the effort of joining/making a team.

To me it’s the real redheaded stepchild, a halfway point between play-for-fun hotjoin and play-to-be-competitive team.

I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t just solo into team queue. Better rewards, and unless you are a to player, you will still be fighting pug vs pug

I thought you can only join team Q with a 2 or more members… I also thought team Q was for hardcore/good pvpers so I’ve been refraining from going solo. I only go there when I have full party of guild members.

Meditations are...

Guardian is already being more than supportive in PvE fights. In trash mob clearing, who is providing party wide blind that allows the entire party to keep their 6th scholar rune option? Also who is providing reflects for lupi, risens, and many more mobs that can easily kill warriors/anything? Also who can clear 6 conditions in an instant for each member of the party at once?

Also when you talk about regeneration in PvE contents it proves that you absolutely know nothing about organized runs. The point of gw2 pve in high level is that you bring reflects and aegis to ensure that none of the member ever get hit, and in certain situations you bring party wide stability so that members can continue to dps without having to dodge.

Go watch cheesy consecrated wall trait killing lupi video in 30 sec and tell me if guardians aren’t being more supportive. Also if you do whirling wrath (gs 2) inside the hit box of boss, you can boost your damage tremendously. Obal has gotten up to 55k, I’ve personally gotten upto 40k. So guardians are in good place other than kittenty shield and really long CD on focus and useless spirit weapon, but we are still doing better than ever.

Btw we have 10~12 seconds of fire field called hollowed ground that provide party wide stability as well. Not enough compare to other classes? Just go look at necro, mesmer and engi. We are doing much better than fine.

There is this funny little feature in the game, called “chat”. When you join a group and you think they expect you to know the run you can just simply write something like “Hey guys I generally know this run, but I’ve been away from the game for a while so I may not know the latest tactics”.

If they kick you find a new group, if not you learn something and they know from the beginning of the dungeon that there may be parts in the dungeon that require explanation. The worst thing you can do is saying nothing at all or joining a group that explicitly looks for experienced players.

Its more of getting kicked at the end so that other people can invite their guildies/friends in for easy daily. I’m not even gonna go to selling arah paths, but these happen so much and even anet devs are tolerating any party kicks.

I don’t understand the hostility. I’m a type of player who likes to have a long term goal and Phoenix finisher looks really awesome in my point of view. Just because a certain finisher attracted me into playing pvp doesn’t mean I won’t progress as a pvp player in terms of skills/awareness. In WvW or Pve, I like to teach and learn from people as much as I can, so I don’t see why I can’t do the same for PvP. In fact I’d like to ask you if you have explored out of PvP and actually took parts in PvE and WvW.

ranks been the easiest to get these days, you can get from 0 to 80 in 5 months. ranks means nothing in pvp except time spent.

The thing is I also want to get better at it so that title the Champion Paragon means something. Some of the people in my guild are really good at pvp, but then there seems to be a huge gap between new pvpers and veteran pvp players. The good ones are really good, but then the bad ones like myself are just terrible. Unlike pve and/or wvw, this mode has strangely polarized skill division as well as high learning curves.

champion titles don’t mean you’re a veteran pvp player…more than 5-8k tournament played is way more indicative…

already have 4 champ titles…on 3rd account lol

That’s one thing I never understood is the disparity between the titles and achievements. On one hand you have the different champ titles, which are very easy to get, few weeks of playing casually. Then you have champ brawler which is a extremely long term goal (nobody has yet to get it). There’s no middle ground at all.

It’s because of different perspective. For instance I’ve always wondered why people have trouble soloing lupi or doing arah p1~4 or even in fractal 49~50. I’ve always breezed them through with my group or even able to pug them and perform decently. My reason for obsessing with titles is that I really like the title

TheFamster.7806

I started PvP again recently because I really wanted the phoenix finisher. The reward tracks are nice bonus but as an ardent PvE player it doesn’t really interest me much.
I’ve tried hotjoins, but since people leave after 50 point lead, it felt lackluster.

I tried solo queue games but it was full of afkers, leavers, and “miscommunication”. I main bunker guardian because I like supporting teammates, but I always get matched up with some terrible, I mean really terrible people who refuse to capture points and blame me for not keeping up with team fights, when I am holding points against 3 other players and calling for help in team chat.

I’ve won 45 out of 95 in solo arena matches, and 20 out of 35 in team arena matches. Rest were from hot joins. So is there anyway that I can just rank up in PvP in efficient manner and get the champion paragon title and the phoenix finisher? I’ve read the “all is vain” thread numerous times and I truly felt the emotional rush.

Should you just go full Soldier gear ?

in Guardian

Posted by: TheFamster.7806

TheFamster.7806

It depends on what you play. For world bosses, gear doesn’t matter. For wvw, soldier is the way to go. In pvp you are allowed to freely change your gear stat so the question is moot, however in pve berserker’s gear always comes out on top.

If you started reading your traits and skills, you’ll see that guardians do have particular condition called “blind” on some of the skills. This blind condition prevents enemies from attacking you, and when used it right you prevent any of your teammates from getting hurt.

However blind duration is very short, and it goes away after any attack (auto, skill, etc), therefore it is best to quickly kill your enemies (trashmobs/bosses). Hence berserker’s gear will perform better and ultimately help yourself and teammate in terms of time spent in dungeons, survival, annd learning your character.

Here’s the direction anet is going for: more gem store items. All the living world series are tied with new release of gem store items, and sadly wvw, dungeon, or pvp cannot be tied directly with gem store items because they all require certain amount of investment of skill, devotion and time, unlike gem store items. Living world is more of an hour or two commercial featuring new gem store items such as weapons, clothes and loosely themed “convenient” items.
Guild Wars 2 has turned into those Saturday Morning cartoon cereal commercials full of advertisement and few seconds of story to get more people to purchase gem store items while blocking any vertical or horizontal updates of the main game.

Its not an exploit. Think how many people can actually do it consistently without failing, and if the guard dies by locusts WoR loses its function. Also even if lupi is “walled” per se, he can still attack with his claw and AoE.
Also mesmer fb, focus 4 can also produce the same/similar results, and even if the guardian isn’t running the consecrated trait wall, with a good party he/she can still one shot lupi on phase 2 without walling it. It’s a clever game mechanic that took people 2 years to find it.

The 15 second cooldown is way too long, damage is too little for any sacrifice, and condition duration is almost none even without condition cleanse or condition duration food.
In order to make this trait viable, the trait should apply at least 5 seconds of chill, proc at every 7~10 seconds (5 seconds could be too short for guardian’s role) and have its range increased from 180 to 240

Sorry to see you go, but definitely understand.

On topic:

I don’t play much these days. I’ve “left” the game since they don’t give two kittens about endgame, but hey, it’s free so I still jump on from time to time to chat with friends. But when I was more active, helping new players learn the ropes and practice was the only thing that really kept the game interesting. After running X dungeon 300 times, it’s fun to go back and play it with new players.

Think of Lupi. My regular group brings him down quickly with little to no challenge (except for me, I usually still get swiped—>AoE’d—>killed in phase 2 >.<). Then I run with new players and we have to chase his shadowsteps, split up and range, etc etc — actually think of ways to get past him as a group.

Most people on here seem to find that sort of Lupi fight annoying, but after months of smooth runs, it’s sorta refreshing to have to do a bit of work =)

My guess is that we are letting ourselves get taken advantage of by anet like majority wvw and pvp playerbase. We receive no attention, hated by people because we are zerker elitists who finish dungeons faster than other people by using exploits such as stacking, proper dps rotation, sigil, runes, potions, etc, and still posting lots of guides and videos for few that are willing to learn/improve. And yet anet finds us too demanding and gives power to trolls so that we may get kicked regardless of situation without any compensation. GG anet

Which is what they should have done with cliffside — removed it from rotation so it wouldn’t kill people’s FotM instances. But eh. There’s so much wrong with how this game is managed that that’s small potatoes.

More like a warning to dungeon runners that we should all shut up and enjoy what we have or else Anet will try to close each path of the dungeons one by one

Ill help till im sick of helping. Usually on my 3-4th run of the night then I go play battlefield. Where i imagine all my victims are various staff guardians etc etc.

A bit more on topic

Meh what can we do? We like the game. We like helping. We like sharing knowledge. Sucks we are exploited but meh.

“We” doesnt have quotes but I cant be bothered

I like helping people too especially when I’m pugging dungeons such as Arah. People that try p2 and p3 usually need help at lupi so I tend to go in just for the Lupi kill and leave right after, or carry them through the end boss. However when I saw the “no fix ETA” I just lost it. And now Anet is literally asking us to babysit newcomers that only know how to spam 1 and kick people as to their liking… I don’t even want to know what would happen in 2 months when those people level their character to 80 and start dungeons

Should we actually help new players?

I know most of us in this forum that haven’t been banned yet are enthusiastic dungeon runners that wants to help people out. I’ve seen some great posts such as Arah tour, Noob guild recruitment and people posting tips for fellow dungeon runners.

However all of our efforts to help new comers into dungeon and combat system (this is your job anet) only seem to make anet hate dungeon runners even more. In fact we have become vulnerable to potential party kicking at the final boss, some of us got banned for posting constructive criticism about any rewards, and absolutely no attention for the community.

In fact there isn’t even a plan to release a new dungeon or fix recent bugs

This issue is being looked into actively. No ETA yet.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-P2-broken/first

And with the implementation of new combat system new players will be only used to pressing 1 for the win without knowledge of any other skills and crippled by anet’s levelgated methods which prevent them from using elite skills, as well as unnecessarily long and bugged trait lines that require many gold and skill points to be experimented.

In short, anet is expecting us, dungeon runners, to do their job at no cost and no benefits while ignoring us completely. And they are silencing us and ignoring as on every opportunity they can get. I think its time for veterans to actually take action and demand the attention we were deprived of for two years.

Oh kitten . So its okay if they kick me out of the party at the last boss chest or run as long as they don’t impersonate GMs. Gotchu

No, no – they will be banned if they do it very frequently.

I guess doing it on weekly basis is okay. I’m wondering if people are forming a guild dedicated to kicking people using LFG system now

They’re looking into it. You can’t rush programming, or else you break everything else and then everyone will complain more. If the issue were as simple as a few lines of code, the fix would be out already. Obviously the issue isn’t that simple, so we need to be patient while they work it. There’s nothing else to be done, and getting riled up over it isn’t doing anyone any favors.

But then they fix gem store issues real quick. If its not gem related, we should all kitten up and suffer

Wait so now in order for us future lfg victims to actually report any LFG abusers and hoping devs to take “action” against the abusers we have to make public 100g betting post against devs and provide a thread full of proofs only to be deleted? sounds like a decent gold sink

Nope, the abusers have to impersonate GMs first.

Only run with friends or guildies, but if you must pug, make sure you screenshot everything, including their username, character portraits and chat logs. Also it is better to stream your entire run on twitch, notify it on reddit for witnesses. And then create another thread full of proofs, description and at least 100g for devs to take action.

And here it is…

They deleted that guy thread where he posted proof (and where the exploiter admitted) of people Abusing LFG, exploting and selling the path after. And you know what? I bet you 100 gold that I will see those 3 warriors logging on tomorrow, and the day after. I know it’s against policy to put name on the forum but there is no way to be heard otherwise.

I’ll take that 100g bet. We aren’t going to ignore reports of GM impersonation and harassment. This was a case of both, and has been dealt with. These players have been actioned, one more severely than the others.

That being said, putting that kind if information into a public post is just asking for the thread to be removed. Next time submit a CS Support Ticket please.

Who else is expecting VIP account?

I was really doubtful that Anet was going to bring Chinese clients to EU/NA, but sadly they did. Now everything is being timegated and dumb down, and there are even more restrictions in leveling character.
Now we are prone to having potato famine (bye bye cheap cup of potato fries) and in a month or two, we will start seeing new players trying out dungeons, only to fail because

1. New players never really needed to use other skills other than 1 to kill mobs
2. Veteran players would start leaving because of returning dungeon bugs / unplayable dungeons (Arah p2 as of moment cannot be played, most of fractals got even more difficult)
3. The casual nature of this game effectively destroys any constructive criticism in dungeon/party chat (Ex. kick any player that says anything about anyone’s build since there are no more opener status.)
4. Remaining veteran players like myself will refuse to pug dungeons with new players since anet lowered overall standard for new players and find a guild or two that only welcomes experienced dungeon runners.
5. Increased difficulty in fractals, even lower level ones, contradicts ANET’s spoonfeeding approach to new players. (New players will try fractal and leave since they can’t beat it by spamming 1).
6. Lack of traits prevent any damage gained from damage modifier as well as supporting the party as whole.

With all the up and downs in the difficulty, I’m sure anet is going to implement VIP account where VIPS are given 50% damage modifier item for certain hours, instant leveling to 40, instant skill unlocks at low level, ability to summon bank/tp/merchant at any given time as long as the user is in VIP status, instant trait unlocks and so on.

My thought is that instead of giving us new contents, anet is making this game challenging by bringing many inexperienced players and forcing veteran players to cope through, and eventually replacing veterans with new players, effectively making existing contents “difficult and hard to achieve”. And this VIP system alongside gemstore will of course generate even more revenue because gem store items and VIP items will be treated as “convenient items” instead of what they really are, pay to play the game the way it was designed 2 years ago.

This is disgusting at best… I thought the new trait system would kill anyone from making new alts, and now timegated/level gated restrictions are totally going to prevent any meaningful progression. In a month or two we will start seeing a lot more players who have no idea what to do at the dungeons, thus lowering quality of players overall.

Beginning Guardian without Aegis? Seriously?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheFamster.7806

TheFamster.7806

Aegis is important for any pvers who are willing to go beyond pugging. Providing aegis require deep knowledge of bosses, the perfect timing, and mechanics of gw2 combat system. There are many guardians who would use WoR at the correct time but fail to provide aegis even for him/herself. So not having aegis for guardian is a pretty big deal.
