I see this mistakes so many times especially after the meta changed. In this meta people die for mistakes, so its best to play safe after getting two points. Almost every time I lost, its because people won the initial teamfight, decided to be greedy without looking at the teamcomp, and then die because they are overstretched. In my opinion, bunkers are scrapper and auramancer.

Currently Necros can 1v1 and 2v2 everything and win effectively so leaving someone alone to 1v1 is a huge mistake. Also there aren’t any real bunkers due to necro boon corruption and condi transfer, so stretching more than 2 points is also risky even with 3 bunkers due to 1 necro easily neutralizing the bunkers. There is no 1 bunker holding entire point anymore. Everyone needs to rotate and actually cleanse condies from each other or cc necros to a point where they can’t get good positioning at all.

I’ve been in so many fights where we were up 250 to 70, and then decided to expand to third node (despite my protest), wiped on mid/far and then snowballed to a loss. Legacy of foefire is literally the worst map of all because of how effective necros are and yet people choose to fight them in mid for god knows what reason. Avoid 1v1 match ups as often as you can, always focus on team fights, and then try to snowball after winning the initial fight. If you lose initial fight, retreat to home, look for skirmishes, and then try going for 2 points instead of 3.

I’m pretty sure people complain because they haven’t adapted to the meta yet and continues to push for 3 points despite our bunkers at best being bruisers. You have to learn to adapt to new meta, and old bunker meta is dead and gone. Now teamwork is more important than ever, and having revenant mirror match is unnecessary and a waste unless the skill difference between 2 revenants are amber and legendary.

TLDR: If you see 2 necros with scrappers/eles in opponent’s comp, don’t go 4v4 mid because that is literally the worst thing you can do. Play side points, don’t over extend (NO 3 POINTS UNLESS YOU HAVE 3 NECROS)

Of course people with the win streaks enjoy this pathetic matchmaking. On the other hand I see people on my friendlist giving up on this season in droves because they are tired of loss streaks. Soon the matchmaking queue times will go up a lot.

I mean I see all the famous players at least from North America already in ruby and diamonds. They seem to enjoy this matchmaking and keep playing. Last season literally didn’t matter as it was all about bunkering and sustaining instead of actually fighting. When I told people in previous meta that its kitten and it doesn’t show skill, they all laughed at me and called me noob/scrub etc, but then i know that they shouldn’t be higher than sapphire in the first place because they weren’t good and had little to no understanding of gw2 combat system yet got to diamond/legendary by queuing with ambers and tanking mmrs.

I honestly think this matchmaking is putting people where they belong. If I don’t get legendary in this meta, so be it. I’ll try harder for next season, etc. I had winning streaks, losing streaks and raged a lot of times because I wasn’t getting anywhere. But now I don’t even look at detail tab after the match to see other people’s division because I’m enjoying the game and ever since I got to ruby each game was a nailbiter.

Contrary to what people say I think this is the best matchmaking system. Of course sometimes I get stomped and other times i stomp other team but then the individual factor actually matters. I lost games where we downed one guy in other team but didn’t finish him and in return they slowly won the map, and I won games where I was able to cleave 3 people at the same time while they were trying to rez and after that point my team was able to snowball the entire fight.

There were many times when I thought my team sucked and was going to lose, but after telling them to regroup at home/mid/far and start winning fights at each node we made some amazing comebacks again. People are too used to previous meta where things didn’t die and they could take a hit or two or play 3 points instead of actually realizing that they only have 1 or 2 bunkers in their team composition.

The classic mistake happens on legacy when 4 people go mid when the opponent team has 1 revenant, 1 or 2 scrapper/ele and 2 necros and get outsustained throughout the match.

As title says since the starting of the pvp league I have crazy ping spikes only in pvp matchs. HoT map, base game map, wvw or raid instances my pings are generally low, from 50~70, however the moment i enter a pvp match my ping fluctuates.

I live in East coast of NA and use verizon fios as ISP.

anyone else have this problem?

It’s only fun for the first 10th times. Currently its just boring and most raiders get literally nothing out of it. I was lucky enough to have 1 ghostly infusion and a mini gorseval but that doesn’t make it fun. Dungeons were fun because they were challenging (1 person messed up=wipe) and rewarding at the same time while current raid wing is more about doing it once or twice a week and then having to spend the next 5~6 days waiting for the weekly reward.

For players who want difficult content, it is very infatuating to see myself and the group not logging on after the first and second raid clear because there is no challenge. Fractals are joke, dungeons have become jokes due to powercreep introduced in HoT with gutted rewards, and HoT map metas are both mindless and frustrating due to people still not being able to perform a simple mechanic such as CCing when the boss has blue breakbar. Furthermore dedicated raiders can’t even practice at will after completion of raid due to weekly lockout that also prevents bosses from respawning.

As I’ve said, if you don’t find it fun, then don’t do it.
I only did enough Fractals to get my first ascended accessory, then I buy the rest with laurels Why? Because I don’t like doing Fractals, I don’t find it fun. I tried to do Tequatl (or Gerent nowadays) daily, why? Because I find it fun.

Also, since when is Dungeon " … were challenging (1 person messed up=wipe) …"? If you’re talking about Arah or Aetherpath, sure, but most people are running the easy dungeon like CoF or AC. And unless you count skipping mobs and stacking is a challenge, they definitely do not give any kind of challenge.

Telling people to leave if they don’t like content is not the best way to approach things Mr. Trump. Some people like challenging and repeatable contents, and if you only did AC and CoF you would never understand what that was. Hell even fractal 50 and 49 were challenging compare to what we have right now. So basically when all the veterans leave, and raid/fotm eventually follow the same fate is current state of dungeon where no one runs and new players struggle to LFG, people like you will be the one that have to take the responsibility but probably won’t.

A lot of constructive feedback on HoT design and content are made, and those should be implemented to satisfy veteran players because the new players who buy the expansion will eventually become veteran players and find the same issue we already face. Also it is pretty obvious that you are not familiar with skill expectation of dungeon community. You say skipping the mob was easy, but those were made seem easy by everyone in the group contributing to blasting smoke field on short notice, giving swiftness in between by switching weapons, and knowing the blast areas to ensure safety of the group.

Stacking has been dead since September 2014 with FGS nerf. Sure icebow took its place but organized groups have stopped stacking for a while, and its those same people who are clearing the raid smoothly and giving constructive feedback that will ultimately benefit the community. People don’t want gold reward at heart, they want reward that properly reflects individual/group’s skill. Those can be accountbounded skins or titles for all people care, as long as they are challenging and fun people would repeat the content. Why are you against the idea of repeatable and skill based content in general? From your post its blatantly obvious that you have never been in a dungeon/fotm community, or if you were, not a very good player no offense.

MMORPG can never be healthy when it is bleeding players left and out, and that is the current state of Guild Wars 2. I get that your Utopian view of GW2 is forcing every veteran to leave and stop every guide on every content to be published so that every content seem new, but in reality its not. Instead of living in denial about how GW2 is the perfect MMORPG you should really reflect on current state of GW2 and try to give constructive criticism

PS. I’m pretty sure you’ll defend current scribing cost and collection items gated behind failing events

Well, if you think open world or fractal gives you better reward, then feel free to those content instead of raiding =p

Personally I think the reward for raiding is okay-ish currently. Sure, it’s not the best in the game, but it’s enough, and “fun” should be the biggest motivation for doing something. Look what happens to a content that people did solely for the reward like Dungeon. Anet nerfed the reward and people no longer do it, I don’t want the same thing happens to raid.

There are no contents that correctly rewards players based on their skill. It is about whoever grinds more and spends more time in HoT maps/silverwaste instead of practicing new strategies or improving personal skills. This is why the playerbase is so divided up into many segments with little room for mobility between the segments. The dedicated raiders would only want the best players, the upcoming players/raiders would like to join the dedicated raiders but there are little to no support for them to improve their skill, and so on and so on. At least with reward it makes people improve to an extent since they themselves would like to receive their reward in timely manner.

Just look at the current state of fractal where people join a LFG without AR or actual skills to complete fractals by themselves. After a wipe or two they leave and join LFG since fractals are easy enough to be carried, and they will never learn the mechanics since joining lFGs are much easier than actually trying the content.

Did you actually try applying to raid guilds? If you show your skills and attitude they will likely to accept you as a trial and then later promote you as you improve and attend raid regularly. I was worried about these things happening and my solution is at least to try applying to established guilds and ask for trial run.

I want the WvW meta to be the PvE meta. This current trend of maxing damage is sad. Nothing kills build diversity faster. I love fiddling with mechanics but when all things surviving or tank related are decried as a noob-crutch, it sucks the fun out of builds. Who cares if I make a build that can fight hordes of enemies? Some glass build pulls mobs in groups and clears them faster.

I was really disappointed in raid tanking. It wasn’t a boss trying to wreck yourface, it was you standing the right spot so the boss doesn’t wipe the DPS with gimmick mechanics. I went in thinking I was going to have to fight the boss, dodge big attacks, you know combat. Nope! Stand behind a mushroom! Run to Green. Walk in a circle. Repeat.

Next boss. Avoid orbs, walk boss to wall so people can cleave him and the wall.

Next boss, “You got a different char right?”

I don’t really feel bad about LEET people leaving, they helped cause this culture and were the same people who defended it as being good.

Don’t blame the ‘LEET’ people creating the full DMG meta culture, It’s the game itself that made it obvious that it’s the best/most efficient way to go

No it really is their fault. Instead of trying to complete content, people optimize to complete content as fast as possible.

Some of that is anet’s fault for rewarding damage so much that in many cases full glass builds are easier to play than tanky builds.

Wow lol full glass builds are easier to play than tanky builds lol. Tell me what kind of game/raid doesn’t prioritize damage over defense? Did you see what happened in last meta of pvp where people literally didn’t die? Other than minecraft and some sandbox games what game doesn’t focus on destroy/beating/dps as part of the content? Oh and suddenly optimization is ruining the fun? Then how are you able to play any kind of online game ranging from MMORPG to FPS? FPS has meta, so does MOBA, basically any kind of game has meta. Is your ego so big that you have to go against optimization even in games? You should definitely work at a DMV and collect your check while doing half of what other people can do.

You can choose to be a special snowflake and not play it but please do tell me why is it wrong for people to optimize their build and have fun at the same time. Also feel free to tell me your opinion on why people have to blindly follow your definition of having fun when we all bought this game with out own money and can choose to play with our own people.

Also you do know you can develop your own tactic to each boss right? You really don’t have to follow any of the guides or videos or streams. If you think your tactic is valid and useful, go prove it instead of whining on how anet did that and people do that etc. Nothing kills build diversity faster? There’s a difference in build diversity and playing your random made up build.

IDK if i had a choice I’d trade 10 of you for 1 Sesshi but sadly life is unfair and I guess that’s your advantage.

Seriously this shows exactly how disgusting and two-faced these “nice” community members are. In front of new players you all act nice but when a distinguished and skilled veteran leaves you suddenly trashtalk him and try to break his moral? Sesshi did inspire many people whether you admit it or not. His skills on video allowed people to explore more on Gw2 combat and he created amazing contents using what anet provided.

Sesshi I hope you really come back to gw2 when 2nd wing is released. If it wasn’t for your video I wouldn’t have made an engi or be where I am right now in a raiding guild. I’d rather have people like you stay and have 10 people like your haters leave or hopefully in uncomfortable position.

I consider myself a strong raider, and I have 5 classes geared for raiding. I however have never been part of a strong raiding group, and most of my experience has been with a casual guild or with pugs. I’ve never killed Sabetha before, but I clear VG and Gors every week. I know I definitely have what it takes to fit into your group, but due to this, I don’t have the experience that I think you deserve in a raider. How might I be able to fit into your group? Do you do non-progression runs where you end up filling in a few spots, and might I be able to raid along with you guys for such a run? I’d just really like to get a few sab kills under my belt to overcome the “eternal or bust” mentality that most strong raiding groups have. I’m definitely not saying “hey guys, please carry me through eternal”. I definitely pull my own weight, and given the chance, I will prove so. It just gets very disheartening when any group I’m “allowed” in wipes around me before I even have a chance to fail. I very much desire to push myself and see what I’m actually capable of, and I need a group of people I can do that with.

It seems like you have a positive attitude so that is definitely a plus, and I agree having eternal title and killing bosses in pugging don’t exactly correlate with a person’s skill after certain threshold. Its actually a lot easier to get access to a reset raid, just find anyone (LFG or friend or friend of a friend) to go open with a reset instance (wait until they load in) join it and there you go (you can even have the opener leave).

not really. Let’s say my group has finished VG or Gorseval to the death and we want to practice more on Sabetha after our full clear night. That leads to us either logging on our alts and opening the fresh raid and completing VG and gorseval again and again, or posting on the LFG which leads to more clutter in the open world tab and at the end feeling like we’re obliged to bring that one person who has Sabetha instance despite our wish to just practice Sabetha without killing her.

This leads to separation of groups even more. Veterans want people who already have cleared Sabetha several times due to raid lockout and fresh new comers cannot complete the raid because they cannot practice more than once a week due to reset. This leads to bad performance overall for the community because the groups value kills over execution which significantly increase the gap between competent/organized players and newcomers/inexperienced players.

In short, Guilds, LFG, friends, etc all require experienced people for raid for successful completion. However there aren’t many ways that people can get experience after VG because of weekly lockouts and lack of practice instance. If people were to practice they would actually learn the fights and improve instead of being kicked from parties/guilds/squad due to lack of experience. This would also help out the guilds who are attempting new tactics as they have means to practice instead of having to scramble for raid instances or suiciding at the end to not kill the boss.

Currently once a group/players clear the raid for a week the instance becomes barren with no choice for practice. And people who haven’t done the raid are now facing exclusion and lack of experience to catch up. Also there are no way to redo the raid other than having someone who haven’t finished raid to open the instance and for groups who haven’t cleared having to wipe over and over just to get more hours in.

Basically I’m proposing a practice instance that gives no reward and only spawns bosses for practice. Bosses will respawn after being so groups can practice and try different comp. Groups who cleared the raid for the week will be able to practice more without having to find someone who haven’t done it and groups that are stuck on bosses can practice after they have cleared it.

The practice instance should include adrenaline mushroom, the rift, and a console per boss to respawn the encounter. This will allow those who started out to catch up and give guilds/groups instances that they can practice at will. This would also separate those who wish to catch up versus those who only complain without putting effort since people can record/stream their performance in practice instance to prove themselves.

I do not think this is the case where you could run 10 Nomads Hammer guardians. With Gorseval you would lose cause of the limited updrafts and Sabetha the stress of keeping the platform up would eventually get your group killed cause 15-20 mins of that would just take one small misstep to make a group fail. Really only Vg would be viable with the way it is now but if they did like I said the fight would most certainly be easy after the 4th spilt with the entire surface damaging you, I only said 4th but if you where going for a 5th 6th spilt the damage intensity of the platform would become more damaging.

So clearly it is lazy to think oh if there are no timers people would use the tankiest gear to get through it and as a developer should be able to come up with another solution than enrage timer.

actually if timer wasn’t there or much generous what would happen is a minimum number of nomad guardian/nomad anything that does damage passively+ some mix of tanky professions+ full cleric druid/ele and then the facerolling begins. Basically with enrage timer not meaning anything people will do some mechanics but most of them will resort to auto attacking until the boss is down.

It changes the fights from dealing much dps as possible to execute raid mechanics while using active defenses such as block, aegis, protection, dodge, heal, etc to prevent one from wiping to having any number of people perform raid mechanic while the majority sits and auto attacks hoping the boss dies and not resorting to use active defenses because the gear already covers all that.

Having enrage time and having people clear the raid with little to no passive defense is good. personally I wish gorseval’s slam attack would absorb protection and stability while one shotting those who didn’t dodge to emphasize the importance of dodging and endurance management.

Buffing the damages to an extend where AA damage would eclipse heartseeker/backstab in damage was wrong. What should have happened was increase AA a bit and then increase damage more on heartseeker/backstab so that thieves would actually have to manage their initiatives in pve. This is same thing with burnzerker warrior where pugs just tried to stack as many overpowered specs as possible just to get by the raid. Now tempest won’t be stacked by pugs due to low healthpool, lack of coordination, a rotation that seems a bit harder than burnzerker and definitely more difficult than thief auto attack and very little room for allowing mistakes.

I get that thieves have to use imitative as active defense but so do other classes such as engi, tempest, chronomancer and guardian. Tempest has to rely on group buff or dodges while doing maximum dps, chronomancers sacrifice personal dps to provide invul/blocks to groups in limited times, engies have to rely on managing cooldowns on skills while being aware of situations/mobs to play effectively, and dragonhunters/guardians back before HoT relied on well timed aegis and group buffs while actively engaging the enemy.

There is no way thieves should be an exception to this. Yes revenant auto attacks were a bit too strong but that was nerfed and it was just. Burnzerker burn ticks were completely overpowered with allowing bosses to get damaged from both fire fields which was fixed. Dagger Warhorn tempest may not seem that punishing while playing, but without protection buffs/competent teammates/situational awareness you might as well as just bring another revenant or a dps warrior. The point is passive play should not be more rewarding than active play.

I thought there are many guilds recruiting for raid in GW2 Looking for section? Did you try applying to any of them? While you may not get speedrun results but at least you can try with likeminded people at your own time.

The big problem with recruiting guilds is that a good majority of them are a core guild that does raids rather than just a standalone guild solely for raids.

In other words, you’re effectively signing up for a new guild in order to do raids. For some folks that may not be a problem taking up a new title. But it’s not that great of a deal for folks that belong to a more casual community that meets all their needs but just aren’t skilled/committed enough for raids.

I guess that’s a problem but its also expected. Raid is supposedly done with a core members of a group and people should also acknowledge the efforts of others when it comes to creating a raid team and setting up schedules. I mean nowadays lacking skill is no excuse as there are loads of videos and written guides up for raid boss/profession. Committing to a schedule or a set group might be difficult but since we are playing with real people behind monitor screens, we should also to a degree expect certain challenges when it comes to social interaction in GW2.

LFG for raid could be good but its not the ultimate solution. The same problems will persist and people will still complain. I agree its a bit saddening to see some people can’t complete raid contents due to lack of group but that is also a natural thing for end game content. Not everyone gets to compete for thousands of dollars in ESL proleague, and not everyone will get to raid due to their personal problems.

At this point I just want to hear Anet’s official stand on DPS meter so that people won’t have to guess or argue back and forth. People asking for personal dps meter that won’t be shared or only be seen by the raid leader with share/no share function within raid instances only sounds good enough for me.

If not at least release an API that only read into combat log and can be used by websites such as gw2 efficiency or something.

During progression everyone wanted cleric healer druid with scrapper for VG for tanking. Now you can get away with berserker druid with healing and chrono tank with 1005 toughness. And the meta is still evolving in a sense that reapers, condi druids (yes I said it!), dagger warhorn tempest, etc are still being adapted by whole group.

I mean if you were doing something that is exactly the same with people of similar skill for weeks at end, wouldn’t you be competent enough to at least learn the mechanics by heart and experiment with different stuff that ultimately makes raid easier? If you really want challenge, put yourself on LFG as the guy who would like to help guild/groups that haven’t still cleared. You’ll have fun and get to experience different style of play.

What I claimed is true from beginning to the end. Yes, there is a bit of different stats min/maxing. But majority of builds are the same: take all the possible personal/group damage modifiers you can find. Utility traits are worthless when competing with damage modifiers. They are only taken when there is nothing else.

Condie cleanse and sustain are barely a thing. One healer is more than enough to manage a 10-man group. Only thing you need to worry about as a player are just some major boss mechanics. Most of boss attacks hit like soft noodles. There are 0 condition problems you need to worry about. I remember even in old scale 50 fractals, ppl tended to need utility/defense/cleanse a bit more than current raid.

actually in old fractal 50 dps was more needed than anything. Basically if you had a competent guardian and 2 eles who rotated around using glyph of storm in earth attunement you were able to kill the trash mob and melt down bosses. The current raid is the beginning of how great Gw2 Pve can be with its amazing combat system. Bosses hit like a soft noodle? Tell that to me when you are playing full berserker’s tempest without protection. currently you are literally being carried by competent druid and teammates who are able to share around boons and such if you believed that.

You are underestimating how good some of the players who produce raid clears (low man, speed run, etc) compare to the average population and the quality of guilds the players represent. Utility traits are not worthless, its just that they can be covered or replaced with human intuition (swiftness/movement skill for VG green not needed), dodging crucial attacks (“egg” from gorseval) and using many boons to advantage to beat the bosses. It comes down to why risk going over the enrage timer or not beating the boss when you can learn the mechanics and perform your best for smooth raid runs.

Having to wear toughness gear=/= difficulty of raid.

While there are some “viable” (can played) builds revolving around I don’t think Elementalists will be meta in pvp anymore. First of all necro match up vs elementalist is a nightmare and now most teams will run at least 1 necro. While paladin amulet does support some toughness and vitality, lack of healing power and condi damage just doesn’t do ele anything. Basically ele scepter auto attacks should have gotten the thief’s auto attack buff treatment, but it didn’t.

Currently playing marauder ele is just suicidal regardless of weapon choice, paladin d/d, d/f, staff can be great if necros weren’t buffed. Compare to what other class gained or lost, ele lost way too much to gain so little. Scepter buffs? Please…

The biggest problem is that newcomers and veterans that aren’t in PvE/raid guild are not learning the basic combat mechanic of GW2. I tend to pug fractal for daily pages and I have a lot of people in 3000~30000 ap range that do not know projectile defense, blasting stealth, dodging and ccing, etc. And worst of it is people get through fractals regardless of their performance so if a run does not go smoothly (aka 3rd~4th wipe) people leave the group and join another LFG. How will newcomers and people in general able to do any difficult content that may or may not come in the future?

This is only increasing the gap between the groups that already know GW2 combat mechanic and those who don’t know because they have no ways of learning other than watching speedrun fractal/raid videos. Even then the lack of understanding of GW2 combat system creates blindly following allowing instead of actually understanding why meta build(s) are created in certain way.

This cause lots of misunderstanding between the groups as it is already while lowering the standard skill level of GW2 playerbase. As much as each side call the other side “casual” or “elitist” the fractal change is only widening the gap between the two. There should be more ingame tutorials other than dodge to show people how amazing GW2 combat system is and foster the community as a whole instead of pitting them up against one another by putting invisible skill ceilings among players.

Ele PVP finished for me

I tried Fresh Air scepter focus with Tempest, Earth and air with scholar rune/air+accuracy sigil. It does not do enough damage even with air overload, sigil proc and constant damage pressure. When the fight becomes 10 seconds or longer I run of of cd and either die or have to reset.

Currently everything heals for so much and so tanky that having a pure glass cannon dps means nothing. Either they buff the scepter to OP level or ele will be out of meta.

“All of us do enjoy all game modes (PvE, PvP, WvW, Dungeons, Fractals, World Bosses, Guild Missions, Story Missions, even Roleplaying” that literally means nothing since players would have easier time finding their own niche in a big guild with bigger population. You guys don’t play everyday due to real life so you need something specific like full clear raid/speedrun fractal/high end pvp team/well known wvw havoc group etc to attract players.

Currently it seems like you aren’t looking for guildies, you are looking for friends. You have to find a center of focus to attract soon-to-be core members to build up on. You can start by inviting your friends that aren’t in the guild yet or have a guild meeting to find a strong focal point.

About Overthrow:

Overthrow is currently rebuilding and recruiting players for Raid. We expect people with reasonable temper and skill level to clear the boss. We don’t have static or we intend to make one, however we are aiming for one shot kills for weekly. As we get better with each other we will try new tactics or low-manning bosses.

See my response to Helseth’s complaints. So what. Plenty of classes have been non meta for sooper long periods of time. Eles have been meta more then any other class in the game. This is all speculative anyway.

No thief has been meta more than any other class in the game. And that is not a positive or a constructive attitude towards balance.

What stat amulet would work best for ele? Maybe if we can get enough support for one choice anet will add it next patch. Here is my best guess:

eles ammy
1050 power
1050 healing power
560 vitality
560 toughness

The problem is that amulet will turn us back to sustain/bunker meta, and with combination of runes and sigils it will make eles master of all trade, or at least outperforming certain classes while filling in multiple roles. Celestial amulet needed to be toned down a bit if anet decided to keep ele as the lowest healthpool/armor class in the game but that would have made other class unable to use celestial.

It is a difficult job and anet may have chosen the easy way out by removing elementalist from competitive pvp scene completely in order to balance out remaining 7 professions.

I don’t want to sound rude, but Elementalists have been at the top of the food chain for a very long time now. Tempest just made it even worse. They have been overdue for a good few balance changes, and the Diamond Skin change was so very needed.

No sane or decent elementalists wanted diamond skin. It was just necessary due to nature of meta relying on condi and sustain. Also I’d argue thieves were at the top of the food chain way longer than elementalists yet they are getting buffs and elementalists are getting nerfs (which some are deserved)? Tempest was like that because anet didn’t balance any specialization before the start of HoT PvP season. Also at least elementalists were using celestial and being tanky while marauder engi performed the similar role except with more mobility, dps and similar level of self-sustain.

Just because one class/profession was at top of food chain doesn’t mean it should get utterly removed from competitive plays. There were times when elementalists were regarded as trash (before d/d cele) and people didn’t want them. For thieves it was different because other classes got overbuffed instead of getting nerfed to oblivion.

Currently people are in the “revenge” mentality which means some people just hate certain classes so much that they are going on personal vendetta to remove the class from the game as much as possible. While there are lots of sound and civil discussion regarding the upcoming balance change some ignorant children are making absurd comments and insane reasons such as "I don’t like “insert class here” so who cares better nerf them so people can’t play" etc.

Now one thing that people don’t know or refuse to acknowledge is that Elementalists have one of the lowest vitality and toughness. The only reason it was sustaining was because of boon (protection, regen) and healing power and only Cele amulet was able to perform that. Now since Cele amulet will be removed Elementalist are severely handicapped in both bunker and assaulter role due to very little health (easily hunted by other marauder classes) and danger of relying on boon (boon corruption).

Elementalist’s role has always been glass canon in pve and wvw and I don’t mind if anet wants to embrace and carry the same logic into pvp. However in pvp there are classes that do way better job as assaulter roles and elementalist’s glassiness becomes the ultimate reason that it falls out of any competition. The only way that elementalists can be viable are giving them an absurd amount of damage especially in scepter so that they kill before being killed, but that is game breaking and overpowered.

So solution? Currently eles are now will be from Master of all trades to mediocre of some trades due to loss of Cele amulet. Marauder elementalist in conquest 5v5 are already countered (both soft and hard) by marauder thieves, mesmers and scrapper (due to sustain). Revenant could be different matter but on current sustain meta Fresh Air ele will do very little or no pressure while compromising its own survival.

I honestly don’t see any solution to Elementalist’s problem given that it is an extreme glass cannon class that can easily be overpowered or fall out of meta. Some of the skills have arguably long cool down for their function (arcane shield 75s) while some of the offensive skills have very little cd for damage (air 2 in scepter).

The problem with upcoming change for elementalist is that with thief being buffed very little to no other class can compete with thief’s disengage, mobility, burst and even team support and S/F and S/D builds are certainty not a great build when it comes to conquest. Aside from being very glassy and bursty those builds offer very little to no team support. While people do argue that elementalists have active defenses most are purely for survival and in matches those will be exhausted fairly quick.

Also with upcoming corrupt boon change it is very obvious that elementalist will not perform as well as they could since having lowest vitality in game means having to exhaust long cd condi removal in short amount of time in succession while having to literally run away from any other marauder/berserker classes.

Basically with celestial gone and upcoming corrupt boon change cleric ele will die of its own boon and marauder ele will just get hunted by thieves/mesmers. Elementalist may become the best build for Stronghold due to its nature but in conquest they will lose their position and roles.

Corrupt boon needs either a huge obvious tell like moa signet or long cast time like dragon’s tooth. Also I don’t know the reasoning behind 10/15 sec for corrupt boon. I’d thought 20/25 sec without trait would be reasonable but 15 sec cd without trait is just pure overpowered.

Just make this raid exclusive and give agree/disagree on using DPS meter for the raid squad before entering the Spirit Vale. My group and I were trying to go for record run on VG and we have very little information of our DPS other than vaguely checking the phase time and noting that some people go down due to whatever reason.

You know, it’s kinda cute to see all these random people coming in to tell one of the guys who cleared Vale in less than an hour and part of a cross-game top raiding guild that they don’t understand ele if they think eles are a low utility class.

It’s so adorably but hopelessly clueless. And the lack of official support for metrics has allowed these people to flourish.

lol so cute to see that you think clearing vale in less than an hour is an impressive fit. Most of the raiding guilds at least the decent ones are clearing it within an hour easily including downtime and trash runs without using condi warriors. If twitch didn’t delete videos you can go to any top guild stream and see that they have cleared Vale easily within 50 minutes starting.

Also if you are in top guild you should know each guild has at least 1 member who is in charge of spreadsheet of various builds and classes. I guess ignorance is bliss because it allows people to speak out regardless of factual information.

Is there any tempest that do not take Invigorating torrent or Element Bastion ? ->here for the heal/regen/vigor.

I understand that taking Zephyr boon instead of Ferocious wind in Air is a personal DPS loss but if it grant to your teammate some needed boons is this really a DPS loss for your party?

Again taking Elemental shielding over Serrated stone in Earth is a personnal DPS loss but if it prevent one ally from going done don’t you think that this dps loss is ok?

The problem is that you look only at personnal DPS while disregarding group support. Profession that lack support (or have support that is bypassed by the mechanics) have no place in the meta. And that’s what happen to the thief, the necromancer or even in a lesser extent to the guardian. This has been a reality for years already because boons are what make your party sturdy and hard hitting.

Let assume a 30k dps ele, you lose roughly 6-7% dps. which mean that you’ll do 28k dps instead. That ain’t a huge loss at all.

NB.: Now, if you’re gonna break a record it’s better to min-max every boon source as well. But for any lambda group it’s certainly better to have more boons than needed.

Yeah I don’t take any of the trait or trait line you mentioned, in fact I don’t take defensive trait at all except eye of the storm trait because there is nothing else to take it. I already have competent teammates and a designated healer and dodges to compensate for my mistake. Guess what? People focus on personal dps because most groups have already figured out the roles such as healer/tank. After that it all comes down to personal skill, and since we have dodging and many boons coming for us passively from revenant and ps warrior what could you ask for more?

If you have to rely on vigor/energy sigil/protection for majority of the fight while playing dps role then your positioning and skill level is subpar or maybe you should get better teammates. Gorseval’s retal during his phase? Don’t attack him with ice bow 4 until his breakbar goes fully down or ask your teammates to cc more. Getting killed by Sabetha autos? Again either tell your druid or someone to step away from the group, ask your revenant for protection and learn to position yourself behind the boss. Vale Guardian attack during split? You’ll be pulling both green and blue together anyway so it all comes down to your druid’s awareness.

Group support is already there, in fact having 2 revs when you can have burnzerker can be overkill on fury. The classes you mentioned are doing perfectly fine if you aren’t going for record kill. What you are covering right now shows either lack of your skill, very little understanding of gw2 combat system in pve/raid, and possibly incompetent teammates. While I do agree that there are some situations that favor group dps by sacrificing personal dps such as revenants using staff 5 for breakbars that is very minor and can be addressed through player skill/bringing different professions.

This is the biggest issue foe me too. The devs claimed a diverse range of challenges. So far it is not existent. I hope the 2nd wing will provide a greater variety of checks: DPS, HPS and CC in all possible combinations and weightings.

You do know you can CC and DPS regardless of gear…?
