Even though TPvP is getting “hype” by anet and trying to get into e-sports the simple fact is no one outside of gw2 community cares enough to actually follow TPvP. And even streamers/broadcasters cannot follow the rapid movements and variety of skills and the combination of players in the match.
Many E-sports games are very successful because they are slow-paced and comprehensible without knowing the full mechanics. For instance counter-strike, Starcraft and League of Legends are viewer friendly, which means actions are centered around on one camera angle while in gw2 tpvp the camera has to float around.
Instead of that, just show viewers 80 vs 80 vs 80 match, which action lasts for more than 5 seconds and more exciting for average viewers. In such zerg matches, commentators can focus on winning/losing side rather than calling out individual skills/chains.
And what makes it even easier for anet is that there are always people on wvw. Just stream it on prime times with floating camera and people can see actions. Of course much more details are needed but in general wvw has potential to be the first mass scaled e-sports or stream and anet is missing out. It also solves GvG situation partially as guilds will be streamed and their win/loss will be shown to public.
In my opinion focus 5 should remain as where it is because I don’t use it to block attacks. In my case I use it as blast finisher+ sword 2 leap to deal burst damage. The focus is actually balanced for guardian in my opinion other than the ridiculous cooldown time since it is used for attacks rather than defense. The only way I’d use focus 5 as shield is when I’m soloing bosses.
The shield on the other hand I find it pretty kitten useless unless I’m trolling in eotm trying to push people off cliffs. Shield 4 doesn’t do anything and shield 5 also has ridiculous cooldown as well as unreliable blocks. I used it once or twice on the Crown Pavilion event against Pyro (?) boss but even then my spirit shield and wall of reflection were more useful.
I’m hoping that for the upcoming patch the focus 5 skill cd reduced to 35 seconds from 45, focus 4 skill reduced to 15 seconds, and shield have completely different functions/skills. Since guardians already have wall of reflection/Spirit shield, replace it with a longbow or revamp it completely. Some cool ideas for Guardian shield skills are on the forum.
anet forgot to close this thread
I don’t know why OP was infracted XD
I find it funny that I only use 1/5 of new grandmaster traits and even in the old grandmaster traits I only use the honor and virtues line. So basically out of 15 grandmaster traits 6 traits are utilized while rest are ignored… hmm
So on my Zeal trait line I don’t/never use
Shattered Aegis (V), Revenge of the Fallen (IV), Binding Jeopardy (I), External Spirit (X), Scepter Power (IX), Wrathful Spirits (XI), Kindled Zeal (XII), Amplified Wrath (XIII)
On my Radiance line I don’t/never use
Healer’s Retribution (I), Shimmering Defense (III), Inner Fire (IV), Searing Flames (V),
Radiant Fire (VII), A fire Inside (VIII), Radiant Retaliation (XIII)
On my Valor Line I don’t/never use
Strength of the Fallen (III), Defender’s Flame (II), Honorable Shield (IX), Communal Defenses (XIII)
On my Honor line I don’t/never use
Wrathful Spirit (I), Protective Reviver (IV), Battle Presence (XII)
On my Virtues Line I don’t/never use
Permeating Wrath (XI), Purity of Body (XIII), Retaliatory Subconscious (IV)
A lot of Zeal/Radiance traits aren’t being used in any aspects (Pve, PvP, WvW) and in order to use few good traits Guardians lose too many useful utilities. I hope on the next upcoming guardian discussion we get some revamped traits and actually useful grandmaster traits (old/new) alike.
Reduce focus CD and fix the shield! Also fix the trait lines. For instance I don’t know why we have some useless traits hanging around in zeal and radiance line…..
I don’t mind the low health but seriously reduce the cd on certain skills and revamp the new grandmaster traits. Guardian loses out way too much for new grandmaster traits because the old ones are so effective and useful. Also please give us another ranged weapon because sometimes scepters just won’t do.
WvW is the end game, and well PvP as well, I wish they would just treat it as such. They are the only game mode where things dynamically change each time you log on.
PvE on the other hand, pretty much ends once you’ve completed the map (like living story). There is only so much you can do.. explore the map, complete the achievements, then what?
I honestly don’t see how they can squeeze more money out of living story content than they could from WvW/guild content if they really put their mind to it.
Legendary+ascended+ new skins from dry tops and stuff. Pve offers exclusive rewards for hardcore players and the thing with pve is that there is no competition. Without competition people look for cosmetics even more, while in wvw people lower settings for smoother fps thus rendering cosmetic pretty useless unless you have a beast of computer. The lag and fps are also the reason some players avoid wvw completely, while everyone enjoys pve to some extent since it is unavoidable.
You dont need as much sigil/runes/gear? What kind of WvW are you playing? That stuff is even more important in WvW than PvE. I call bullkitten on the notion that PvE players invest more $ into gems, especially since PvE players make more gold and can simply convert..
First of all I’m a casual wvw and pve but I have spent about 100g~150g on each of my characters for pure pve. The sigils on each characters cost about 20~30g (cheap) and I have to carry many foods/potions/consumable plus different gear sets for different classes (zerker, assassins, even soldier). The runes themselves cost easily over 4g whereas melandru soldier stat gears can be bought using karma for some pieces. Plus in wvw zerg settings an individual other than the commander does not stand out so that any mistake made can be covered with little or no consequence while in pve one misclick can wipe the entire team.
Also variation of sigils depend on each dungeon whereas in wvw it depends on purpose.
Also pvers use more revive orb/instant repair kit and other consumables.
Going deep/hardcore into wvw isn’t cheap, but its certainly less expensive compare to pve contents, and that is why anet doesn’t give a drowning kitten about wvw.All I read here is real casual player who doesn’t know much about WvW. Just my food is over 1g an hour. Add into that siege/maintenance it easily hits 2.5g per hour. As for WvW gear I will use an extreme example. Dire/plex ascended armor – go ahead and do the math on that and tell me it’s cheap. That’s for one set of armor and I carry 3 depending on what I’m doing at the moment. 4 weapon sets – again for what role I’m playing in WvW. As for mistakes being covered by the zerg it’s generally frowned upon to be a rally bot. In order to cover all of these cost for me to play WvW and not have to choke down pve content I buy gems.
You might be in a strong wvw guild and commanding but think of the general population. How many people would actually throw down siege? You might be a special case but in pve circles it is a norm to carry just as much weapon/armor as you as well as do it on 3~10 other characters. And beside all anet does is cater for pvers anyway. Might as just enjoy and try to make wvw better
Umm you do realize when you work towards something it isn’t RNG? For instance your paycheck which can be used to buy luxury isn’t RNG. And Car engine components also aren’t RNG. When you build/work towards something, you don’t expect heavy RNG components unlike gw2
Ummm, what does any of what you said have to do with a Legendary not being a luxury? Anyways, to help, allow me to repost the following:
Luxury: a condition or situation of great comfort, ease, and wealth; something that is expensive and not necessary; something that is helpful or welcome and that is not usually or always available
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/luxury
Pay close attention to the second and last part of the definition. I’ll bold it for you to point them out.
By that definition even exotic gears are luxury for this game so your point is still moot. Everything can be done even with white gears so then why do we even bother obtaining exotic gears at all? While we have different perspective of Legendary weapons (you think its luxury, I think its an end game content/achievement), there is no denying that excessive RNG does not comply with gw2 market anymore, especially when we were introduced the blade shard vendor and Lyssa recipe fiasco. Even anet had to patch RNG for CP/QG events, and I don’t see why they can’t do this for precursors.
This is not the full truth … precursor is only RNG if you decide to obtain it through forging. If you want to work towards precursor and not be RNG’ed, you don’t have to, Your argument addressed.
Precursors still exist only as forged/drops, so they are RNG nonetheless. Any player that obtained the precursor was affected by RNG, so precursors are RNG except that they can be traded
This is funny how people compare a game item to real life luxury lol. Do you really have to justify the RNG in game by comparing your item to a real life luxury? Just because you compare a legendary to Lambo/Ferrari don’t even think for one second that is true. Legendaries are meant to be achieved by gamers while luxurious cars target different customers. Unless legendaries suddenly become available only by real life currency, please don’t make such ridiculous comparison
Please tell me where it says that all players are Entitled to a Legendary? Just because all players are capable of getting one, doesn’t mean they all deserve one.
I never said they are “entitled” Please do quote me on that usage of vocabulary. I said they should be achievable, which could mean from RNG to crafted/hunted. RNG is not a measure of skill or knowledge of this game. Players who have been playing this game for many hours are still hindered and crippled by RNG system. I’m not asking for “entitled” legendary. I’m simply saying that there should be another way to acquire 1/4 of legendary other than RNG.
You implied it when you scoffed at the notion that a Legendary is not a Luxury.
Because a Legendary isn’t a luxury? I fail to see how a Legendary can be a luxury when you compare it to Lambo and Ferrari. I also don’t see how you thought that I was going for “entitled” legendary when I only wanted to discuss how anet has been breaking their words about creating other ways to acquire precursor and refuse to intervene when its about precursors.
Because it is? A luxury good in real life is like a Lamborghini, or a Gucci purse. You don’t need it, but it commands status. In GW2, a luxury item is a Legendary weapon, or a Tormented skin.
In 2012, Colin referred to Legendary weapons as “Prestige gear”. It goes hand in hand with the idea that Legendary weapons are carrots on a very long stick. If you choose to get one, that’s your choice. And when you do get one, your character suddenly stands out in the crowd.
Legendary weapons are carrots on a very long stick but do you obtain luxury by RNG? Or do you work for it? And the difference between legendary weapons and luxury is that for latter, you either live in it or you don’t. Unlike legendary weapons which were meant to be “work” towards. And even if you decide to buy those luxury items, there are no RNG parts involved in acquisition methods. You pay money for what you get, unlike precursors which is 1/4 of the entire Legendary Recipe.
Um, you realize that you can buy Precursors, right? I’ve sold many in my day, so I know for a fact that people buy them.
Precursors are luxury items too.
Umm you do realize when you work towards something it isn’t RNG? For instance your paycheck which can be used to buy luxury isn’t RNG. And Car engine components also aren’t RNG. When you build/work towards something, you don’t expect heavy RNG components unlike gw2

What’s more ridiculous is that you completely miss the point of our arguments. Rather than rephrase them for the n’th time, please read over them again. Thanks.
I’m so sorry but you are against any form of crafted precursor because…? Of course other base mats might go up but that is totally up to the speculation of how anet will decide to release craftable precursor. In fact anet hasn’t released anything and the OP is merely suggesting that maybe there is something anet can do about the price of precursors. And yet you choose not to listen to any form of argument and keep asserting that everything is fine.
Is defending RNG that important to you? Is it more important than suggestions of many players and the promise of anet? Because I thought users were allowed to express own opinions and raise issues but you keep bashing any form of argument.I’m not against precursors being crafted. However, prices for the components will increase which should be pretty obvious. A lot of these components would likely be used for the other parts to craft a legendary so you’re not making things any easier. If it’s account bound components, then expect them to be greatly time gated as they’re stated before that they don’t want craftable precursors to hurt the existing market.
Anet has also said that the economy in the game is a free market and that the price is determined by supply and demand. This was intended. They’ve also stated that precursors are luxury items which are normally expensive. They will not interfere with the drop rate or prices as they’ve stated a few times. Feel free to look back on a john Smith’s comment history if you want more info.
I’m also not defending RNG which would have been evident had you read my posts. What I have been arguing is that casual players can put in the effort to farm gold to purchase what they need off the TP if they don’t like the method of acquiring components as drops. All players, poor and wealthy, have this option. Players with limited play time can farm for gold and earn a decent amount pretty easily.
I’m not telling people that they shouldn’t express their opinions.
I’m sorry but even when anet says they will keep the economy “free market”, they’ve already nerfed and intervened on many mats/items for instance the Frostgorge farm and Queensdale train. In fact there were many more interventions to keep the “free market” and yet one it comes to precursors they wouldn’t intervene? And casual players cannot simply generate 1000g+ match the increase of price on precursor. Idk what your definition of casual is, but I’m pretty sure I’ll find someone with Yakslapper title faster than a casual with legendary.
I’m seriously doubting any new changes made for wvw because WvW simply does not generate Gems for Anet. In pve people tend to “buy” repair kits, revive orbs, salvage kits, etc, and in PvP anet is trying to generate E-sports hype. But there is simply no transaction involving wvw. Its mostly guild/server pride that is keeping it alive but as time progresses and new games come out people will eventually leave. At that point anet will simply leave it empty
Funny after paying for food/crystals/siege I break even in WvW so I buy gems every two weeks to have any gold for fun stuff.
To be honest I actually make gold in wvw (very little), but then for me if i did a dungeon tour for a day I wouldn’t have to get more gold for wvw in a month. WvW actually costs very little and that is why its being neglected. You don’t need top oil/food because of buffs/removals from many players around you. You don’t even need many golds to buy gears due to badge of honor currency. Hell from those champion bags one can even expect a precursor drop or even a named exotic which will be enough to supply a casual wvw player for about 2 weeks. Beside wvw is only serious in seasons and top tier servers so the population is very unstable and not much. Server transfers can be done with gold to gem exchange so anet can afford to ignore us continuously until wvw dies off.
You must not WvW much. I spend over 1g per hour just on the food and crystals and although they aren’t required for zerging you need then for roaming. Superior siege adds up as well. WvW is serious in the off season for people like me and it isn’t just the top tier servers. If I get a precursor or named exotic from a champ bag I’ll let you know. Cute
1g for an hour isn’t much compare to pve aspect of the game. In my case I usually spend over 100g just for the basic runes and sigils, which tempts me to buy gold. In general, people spend more gold (hence future gem) on pve contents rather than wvw. The only reason people would buy gems is mostly for pve contents which can be used in wvw, but not exclusively for wvw.
If we go by your logic, there is nothing exciting for WvW players to spend their gems on.
Sadly that is true in my case. WvW doesn’t consume as much gold as pve contents. Pve contents consist of ascended gears, legendaries, runes, sigils and many more. Unless you are playing a really different style of wvw (roaming), even then you do not need as much gear/sigil/runes as for pve. With new updates on living story and events like the Crown Pavilion Pve contents remain as gold sink whereas WvW has limited consumables and even limited updates.
While I do acknowledge that WvW is one of the most exciting parts of gw2, sadly it does not have bigger gold sink than pve.

You cannot work towards something that is RNG. Precursor drop itself is already RNG and the dismal drop rate proves it. Precursor also isn’t a luxury item but a part of component that leads to the luxury.
When you are working towards something, there is a definite goal. Sure in means of achieving goal there are little bit of RNG involved, but in this case the RNG takes over 1/4 of the entire goal, which means one has to be extremely lucky rather than skilled.
To all those RNG believers, if anet decides to award precursors based on skills rather than actual luck, I bet majority of you including myself won’t ever get another precursor.
Just because you were extremely lucky in many ways (BLTP/Life, etc) that doesn’t entitle you to judge and mock those who simply want precursors in other way other than RNG. Just remember that RNG works both ways for you (in game and real life) and be cautious of what you write/say.
Ever since the new patch I’ve been trying to play the way anet “intended” to play. Even before the patch I did wvw, pvp, pve and map completion just for the sheer joy of it, so I thought this new trait patch was going to make me enjoy even more.
Turns out that even with 10 map completion, world bosses, and other events which accumulate to 20+ hours easily, I’ve only unlocked 5. Now out of those traits most of them were completely unrelated to the build/playstyle I wanted.
And as I kept “hunting” for traits, the game became more of a chore instead of relaxing casual game anet advertised as. Even after all the exploring, boss hunting, and many more, I couldn’t stand how I cannot still get all the traits even when my character reached max level and thus was not accepted in dungeons/fractals/wvw.
The new trait hunt seriously impaired my ability to enjoy the game and turned it into individual grind. Since I had some gold/skill point scrolls, I was able to “cheat” my way into buying traits for about 80~90 golds+ 100 something skill points, but I have no idea how new players can able to do that.
This patch is utter disaster to both new and old players, but since it does not directly contribute to gem sales, it will be forgotten. New players will learn to either buy gems to convert to ingame currency for smoother gameplay (dungeon path buying), or endure mindless trait hunting until they quit or burn out.
I don’t think devs/moderators even visit wvw section of the forum anyway lol. This is like a exclusive social gathering for caring outcasters
Apparently WvW side is going to die sooner or later. Let’s all enjoy WvW while it lasts. I’m pretty sure that once majority of us leave for different game or quit WvW entirely due to lack of support and communication, anet will simply remove WvW and make everything EOTM since it still caters to pve aspect. All we can do is try to make this game worthwhile to us while hoping for a new game…
Elite Risen Illusionist… Q_Q
Really because I don’t have to spend skritt when I play pve and make decent money when I decide to sight see in care bear land. Ascended armor cost about $40 btw since that was the only way I was going to get it that wasn’t going to take a year or grind pve. Anyways like I said you apparently don’t spend much time in WvW or you might know better.
Is it because you don’t run meta builds or like to do speedruns? because consumables+foods+ runes can easily go up to 100g+ without a hiccup. The point is wvw does not have a steady based gem income other than server transfers while pve players have to spend gems/golds to even begin their journey. Its obvious why anet cares so much for pve and pvp but so little to wvw
It is incorrect to say that WvW generates no gem sales. The only reason to transfer servers these days is for WvW, especially pre and post WvW tournament seasons. A subset of those transfers are going to be done using gems bought with real cash.
Second, this seems like as good a topic as any to post this article (it mentions Guild Wars): http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/18/should-the-elder-scrolls-online-go-free-to-play
“But while changing to F2P means planning for the future does become harder, it also opens the door to a much faster-paced breed of feedback that, if analysed and reacted to appropriately, enables developers to get the most bang for their buck.”
This line struck me as applicable to Guild Wars 2. Not reacting “appropriately” to feedback from WvW means losing potential profit. Players are a commodity in this model because there’s always a subset of the current playerbase that spends a ton of money. You want to have as many as possible online and playing.
But ever since the introduction of wvw nothing has changed. From the titles to achievement, even for server balances, anet has not responded. Rather they’d only put price on server transfer to ensure minimal gem generate and ignored us ever since. And how many times would one transfer servers in a month? For many players its a one time thing and that is why anet does not even have wvw teams. When the new game comes out that matches wvw in gw2, people will flock to it, and only then anet will respond to user request to retain its wvw population, but then they can simply acknowledge the end of wvw and close down the entire gameplay, focusing on pve and pvp
I just recently got promoted to Dolyak rank and I’m on my 6th losing streak at the moment. I don’t pvp a lot, I just do it once a day on my guardian.
Every time I press my solo Q button to enter a match, I see bunch of champion titles surrounding me. To make it worse, most of my teammates are Dolyak ranks or lesser while my opponents are full of Phoenix and Dragon ranks.
It is very disheartening because all I wanted to do is get better by playing with opponents with roughly the same skill as me, but then getting stomped by dragon finishers 4~5 times a match and getting blamed for losing the match, which I know it was my fault, just doesn’t make sense.
I honestly don’t have any faintest idea of how solo Q works, but from what I’m assuming if I keep losing maybe one day I’ll get paired with good (?) teams so that I can win at least one match a day. I don’t want to be that AFK guy who gets glory/exp and leave at the end of the match, but I honestly don’t see how new players/unskilled players such as myself can enter already established pvp population.
Is there any solution to make pvp fun for me?
Use the gems for your own character as anet do not care for wvw anymore.
Try to find a guild that suits your own timezone and purpose. Most people in gw2 are very nice and I met some of the best people while recruiting. Nowadays guilds have dwindled down and try to focus on their own infrastructure but you can still try
I’m actually guilty of being judgmental based on AP although I never participate or lfg anything requiring minimum ap. That said on pve stuff I generally found people with high AP to perform much better than people with low AP. Although I don’t think that AP should be a standard to judge a player, in dungeons like arah or high level fractal most of the low APs come in for help. I don’t mind personally but I sometimes do feel that I want to have a nice arah/fractal run once in a while without having to explain every mechanism behind certain boss fights.
Guardians should be buffed as in reduced cd on certain skills, fixing the auto attack chain in one handed sword, adding another ranged weapon, and buffing or removing shield entirely.
No problem. Kicking problem isn’t that bad on low tier fractals/dungeons, but as people move on to higher difficulty content there are more abusers. I hated the “elitists” in this game before I tried out Arah, but once I started running frequently I now sympathize with some of them (although I don’t agree with them fully).
For fractals and Arah, I’d recommend you go with your friends/guildies to avoid being kicked or subjected to elitism.
PvT gear in PvE is being selfish unless it is requested/needed by some situations. The game mechanic in gw2 is that players kill mobs fast enough to avoid getting hit or downed. And even if a guardian survives the encounter with PvT gear, he/she cannot solo the entire barrage of mobs+bosses, hence getting killed anyway. If you are in full zerker you can contribute a lot in melting mobs/bosses down thus helping the entire party avoiding wipe. Also by having more toughness, the aggro will be drawn to guard, potentially screwing up LOS and getting killed even faster.
Its because of amount of time and effort you put in the dungeon just banished out of thin air. Its not too bad in dungeons like SE or TA where everything is straightforward, but when you are leading/teaching a group in arah and you get kicked at the last boss its pretty disappointing. It goes same for fractals as well
For WvW: rebalance the wvw achievement ( I want the yakslapper title), give more incentive to play wvw (not rewards, but incentives), and start taking actions against hackers, abusers, and even siege trolls
For PvE: Just add more dungeons, buff fractal rewards, and add more challenging bosses like Lupi
In general, just fix RNG. I love the combat, I love living story, I avoid pvp so idk whats wrong in that section other than skyhammer, and add more skins that consumes our karma/dungeon tokens/other currencies other than Gems.
I just want mounts as skins. No swiftness, no any special treatments, but just like tonics.
I still don’t understand why the change was made in first place. Instead of exploring for traits, its more like buy gems then convert them to gold to unlock them for better and faster experience. I stopped making new alts because of the gold+skill pts+ amount of time, and when new people come in, I feel like I have to tell them to buy gems first rather than play the game. I don’t see any joy of exploring when I have to complete the same map 3 times in a row to get a trait that I can’t even properly utilize until I’m level 80 with full exotic gears. I’m starting to think developers are just trolling us and telling us to get a job and then buy gold rather than farming for them
Depends on Pve, PvP and WvW. For Pve I first watch speedrun clears and try to find the POV version of profession that I play. Then I watch other speedrun videos and try to learn which skills can be used in certain situations. After I got the basis down I dive straight into the dungeon/fractal and try to emulate what I’ve seen (where to stack, etc).
The new trait system doesn’t fully reflect the need and playstyle of users. Just give us the option to buy the trait books or even lower the trait costs (skill points and gold) so that new and old players do not have to invest a significant portion of their lives on one systematic treadmill. Leave the trait hunting open for those who want it, but please do not pigeonhold the many players who do not wish to be burned out just by trait hunting
I’ve been noticing the aegis thing for a while. Even for a slight attack which does not hit my character I lose aegis for no apparent reason. While I do love the unscathed Contender trait and its 20% damage increase modifier, Anet will simply ignore our plea and say that guardians are perfect. I have no idea why guardians have such long cd for blocks (30~80 seconds) and huge gaps on weapons compare to warriors. Guardians also have some useless traits that won’t be utilized at all and terrible spirit weapons except maybe for shield.
