I think of Divinity runes in another way. Theyre the only (I think) rune that has level bonuses from one slot up to six. All other runes start off weak at 1 (eg: 25 of a stat) and gradually get ‘more powerful’ the more of that rune you have (eg: 100 of a stat at 5 runes).
Because of this fact I can swap and choose how many Divinity runes I want in my set without fear that im losing anything by putting a low number in. An example of this is the fact I have a boon and might stacking armour set which gives me 30% boon duration along with an extra 20% might duration. This will keep my might easily above 21/22 stacks for a whole fight. If im partying with someone who is giving me might also im stacking too much might so I remove my Pirate runes (20% might) and pop in two Divinity rune armour pieces.
Also, saying that having 60 of each stat is pointless is wrong. The overall benefits of the all round stats on Divinity runes far outmatch other runes providing that you can use each of the stats given to you. As a ranged shout warrior I can make use of all of them.

Gem price goes up just before and during events, and back down again after the event. If youre in the EU ive noticed a small drop from 3am onwards most nights as well so if you dont mind waking up once in the middle of the night (or if youre like me youre still awake anyway) then purchase then.

So many people moaning about how they cannot make a decent amount of gold and not willing to put in the time to do so. I will second the fact that its pretty easy to make money via dungeons in the game and I do these dungeons because I want to, not because I have to.
If I didnt like dungeons then id go and farm (not grind) some T6 mats in Orr. If I didnt like doing that id gather nodes. If I didnt enjoy that id go WvW and earn a bit there etc etc. If I didnt like any of these ways and just preferred sitting in LA all day then, and only then, would I consider buying gems. The gem shop is there in order to give people another choice besides spending hours a day playing the game. It just so happens I enjoy playing the game so have no need to buy gems.
Without saying how much I have, if I sold the gems I bought for gold a while back id have enough for Dusk. I havent done a single minutes ‘grinding’ and ive not used real life money. I dont spend all day running dungeons and/or Orr (havent done AC in a few weeks now) and I only really gather in Southsun Cove due to the relative ease of getting the rich Ori node.
Including the fact I bought exotics just for the skins ive bought 5 axes, a shield, a warhorn, a harpoon, 2 rifles, three armour sets(Divinity, Eagle and %boon set runes) and have combined with 2-3 sets of dungeon armour for the skins, two ascended rings and the backpiece. Im not saying this to show off, im merely pointing out the fact that just doing what I enjoy has netted me all I could want other than a legendary which im not currently interested in due to the fact I dont like the skins.
If you dont enjoy then why play, let alone moan about the fact youre ‘forced’ to buy gems’? I dont understand some people.

I dont understand why everyone wants everything free all the time! Whats wrong with working for something for once? In this case working to get the gold to get the gems to buy the remaining three mini-pets. Yes theyre a lot of gold but believe me when I say you could get that gold in a week if youre willing to put a little effort in.
Think of it as youre getting two free pets out of a collection of five. Its saved you 16g if youre into mini-pets. If you really are the collector you say you are start going to dungeons and working your way towards the gold to buy the gems.

… after 12,750 bags I got the Endless tonic.
Expect a similar rate for the tonic and bell this event.

Thanks for the ideas/tips everyone, its much appreciated. Im going to give the build ive got in my head a go up until 80 and see how I feel then. Just wish rangers (and warriors for that matter) had more combo fields! So damn useful in dungeon parties!

I read on the forums (so by no means is it confirmed) that new weapon classes would be introduced, and the battleaxe is on its way (2h-axe). I very much doubt they would bring in one new weapon type so it wouldnt surprise me if the polearm was another.

tl;dr: Suggest me some condition based, PvE/dungeon ranger builds.
My main is a warrior. I am more than happy with my main but the time has come to level up one of my alts to get a second to level 80. Why? Because im tired of feeling left out when friends say ‘ok, going on my alt’ and im left to either log out or find something to do for a few hours.
So…decided on a ranger (youll be pleased to hear) and have chosen a direction- condition build. My warrior is raw damage so I want something a little different. I am only looking for a PvE & dungeon build. PvP isnt on the agenda and i’ll leave WvW to my warrior.
The build I have so far come up with is: http://tinyurl.com/cys9wsl
I would prefer a closer range set such as axe/torch for PvE and would use the shortbow in dungeons. The one issue I see with this is that I am placing a lot of points into Skirmishing, but would not be using the crit dmg/chance bonus I get from it.
What would you seasoned rangers change?

‘Forced to use the gem shop’… I see little actual difference from buying on the TP if im honest. 350 gems is what…8g? Whats the difference between buying for 8g via the gem shop and 8g via the TP? Only two that I can see- you can spend real life money IF YOU WISH. It also curbs inflation by taking gold out of the game.
So buying from the gem shop is actually better for you and the game than being able to buy from the TP.

The design was great and I did fall a few times due to me being a complete idiot but it was pretty easy in the end. As I mentioned in the other thread (which this is soon to be merged with so THIS thread!) the difficulty wouldve been good had the puzzle have been longer. At the snowball bit I expected to have had to run down through some cave system, dodging giant snowballs and npcs flinging snow at you to hinder your progress. Wouldve made it more challenging but not necessarily any harder.
Great work on the design and idea though, cant fault that as it felt magical in there. Its just the actual puzzle side of things lacked a little.

Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
As much as I enjoyed the puzzle and really struggled through missing simple jumps, this was a little too easy for me to gain any thrill in finishing. Dont get me wrong, it was fun and took me a little while to finish but I didnt get the sense of achievement I got through completing the clocktower.
A suggestion that would help with this- make the puzzle longer as opposed to more difficult. When you have to dodge the rolling snowballs I expected the path to go down and not up. What if there had been some tunnel system down there with alcoves you have to dodge into before getting squashed? Snowmen could throw snowballs at you to hinder your progress and youd then have to climb up some kind of festive tree (I didnt say Christmas!) to jump into the top of a present.
Also I thought the reward was a little poor. A unique skin for completing the puzzle would have been nice but instead I got a bunch of mats im never going to use. I look at my Mad King Slippers fondly as im wearing them and remember the struggle I overcame. I cant do that with some snowflakes I just put into my bank.
Finally… the wait times were awful. Snowball fights are great for the first few times you fail but after that youre left standing around for longer (it seems) than you did with the Clocktower.
Other than that I enjoyed the puzzle, thanks and well done.

It seems that the bugs that make cliffside ‘easier’ get patched and yet the ones that make it harder are left in. Why is that? Surely all bugs should be fixed, regardless of positive or negative.
The bug I am referring to being kept in is the fact that the veteran mobs and Fanatics do not re-spawn after the seal is hit. In addition the seal had to be hit twice and then my game froze up when accessing the options screen so all in all im not impressed.

Im a guy that plays a Sylvari female. I deliberately try to avoid wearing skimpy outfits, this being helped by the fact im a warrior and wear heavy armour. I see this as part of my character- she prefers to rely on her armour to shield her rather than ‘magic’ which is clearly what protects the more ‘skimpy clad’ characters running around. She’s not prudish, just would prefer to remain ‘appropriate’.
That being said im all for skimpy outfits on other characters. It creates a nice balance with the huge Charrs and Norn running around with a metric tonne of metal hanging from them. Anything that creates diversity is a good thing in my opinion.

Edit: We are also looking for lower level fractals players that can put together their own team and progress as high as possible. All guild members will be able to use our Teamspeak for use in their parties.

Id like to think of this guild as something a little different to most of the guilds out there. We want to keep ourselves small in order to create a more family-orientated atmosphere. In the larger guilds you fail to get yourself heard whereas in a guild such as ours everyone has a voice and everyone has a say.
—————————————————————————————————-
At the moment we are looking for players who are interested in having fun and progressing in the Fractals, in WvW, in world events such as the up and coming Wintersday event and we plan on getting together an sPVP team in the near future.
—————————————————————————————————-
We are in desperate(I use this word lightly as we do very well in F20+) for one, possibly two(as cover) members who are at F20 or above (and preferably not condition based) to run at least two fractals per day, maybe more to progress up the ladder. Providing you work well with the team you’ll be guaranteed a slot so if you are currently struggling to get a regular party now is the time to join us!
—————————————————————————————————-
Lastly I have been covering some of our fractals runs on my Youtube channel so feel free to head on over to the link in my description to check them out. As you’ll see we do use Teamspeak which makes fractal runs a lot easier and a lot more enjoyable! Feel free to PM me in game for any more information!

Why is it that time and time again I have to post the following? Its getting tiring so i’ll say it one more time: I am not saying less information is needed, I am saying there should be a different way of giving out the information in order to maintain surprise and/or the lore of GW2.
Please tell me what the difference is between the following events:
a) Toymaker Tixx’s robots will go berzerk. Save him and Lions Arch from them at 10:00.
b) Toymaker Tixx needs help cleaning up his contraptions at the end of a busy week in Lions Arch. Knowing Tixx, things may not go as smoothly as planned Join him at 10:00!
Both tell you the time, location and type of challenge. a ruins the surprise and lore, b doesnt. If the creators of the event cannot create ways to mask the challenges then at least create a spoiler free page for those of us that dont want to break the immersion of the game with links to find out more if you shall wish.

FYI regarding my post about receiving more exotics than my friend but less rings, I have 3% more MF than her due to me using the Karka accessory so the MF arguement is flawed.
Trust me, its swings and roundabouts. There will come a time where you seem to get more loot/drops/whatever than others, just be patient and itll equalise out.

Id say ive got bad luck at the moment but its not magic and I very much doubt its a conspiracy! The way I see it, if RNG is ‘against me’ at the moment then sooner or later it’ll be ‘for me’. Its just % chance and it’ll even itself out after a while (mathematicians be quiet!)
Then again…in the runs that a friend has got 9 rings compared to my 1 ring, ive got 7 exotics (albeit Account bound) compared to her 1 so its swings and roundabouts.

One thing I should state- I used the word ‘ruining’ because I had a limited number of characters! Id love to be able to put ‘Providing too many details on future events detracts from the impact and surprise of the events and disappoints me a little’ or something along those lines!
Thanks for the reply Anthony, im glad that you/the team have seen the need for some secrecy in the events. I would like to say that it would be nice to have some kind of spoiler alert for the final event….maybe the main event(or anything with spoilers) could be minimised and you click the title(with time and date) to see the exact details. That way people who want to know could look and those that dont want to know, but want to read the schedule can do so on the same page while keeping the details under wrap.

There is an easy solution for the OP.. Don’t go looking!
I haven’t a clue whatsoever beyond the dates what will be going on, because I haven’t looked for it, and don’t plan to. I just saw the new category for wintersday on the forums, and clicked this thread because of the title. I’m probably going to move on now to the discussion category, still blissfully oblivious to what’s in store for wintersday.. silly complaint.
Post after post saying ‘look at the details for the new event’ with no spoiler alerts and youre saying ‘bury your head in the sand’? Plus youve not read or understood my posts which is typical
tl;dr version of my posts: you can satisfy everyone by giving the time and dates of events without spoiling the surprise of the event just by tinkering with the event story a little.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Some more people who havent read my post properly. Lets use the example that Zaxares talks about- the final Lost Shore event. Here’s how I wouldve changed that to work with my ideas:
The event would take place over a week, not a few days. Word would be released that a giant sea creature is heading towards Lions Arch and its ETA is —:--, and so everyone is asked to be in LA at this time. This wouldnt differ from what actually happened, but it gives no indication as to what is about to happen.
Phase 2 would happen soon afterwards, say a day later and would progress as it actually did because finding out information about the Karka is a great idea.
One day after this word gets out that LA plan an offensive to happen in, say, 5 DAYS. This would give people 5 days to plan for the Karka event. In the meantime you could introduce another small event which involves collecting materials for terraforming Southsun. Not a grind, just something like a 1 per character scavenger hunt for items with a prize at the end.
Five days later(or whatever) the teraforming begins and you meet the Ancient Karka, doing battle using the tactician’s plans. Other than the time difference it would play out the same as it did but with more suspense. Just the same amount of people would turn up and just the same amount of people would moan about the event.
For those that have said ‘just dont read it’ nowhere did it say there would be spoilers and ive no problems whatsoever with the bulk of the info given on Wintersday. The ‘toys’ part is great, doesnt give away anything. Its just the final event annoys me as I really want to have some surprise in GW2 and im not getting it.

OMFG! When they make suspense in LS event and get all the problems because people thought that the only one event was only a cinematic there are a torrent of players whining about ANET not informing them.
Now they inform people about what will be for them so they adjust their times and be in the events then people whine because they are telling too much.
ACH! when people will stop to be so annoying?
You read maybe the opening sentence of my thread and then replied…let me summarise for you:
Its okay to give the location and time of events and its okay to give away things such as ‘Mr xyz is visiting zyx at —:--’ because those things, in terms of realism, can be explained. But why give away the exact activities? The only reason is to bring the maximum amount of people into the game but surely keeping it more of a secret will bring in just as many people? You’ll get people moaning about the event either way (which shouldnt happen if its good). I dont see the point in giving huge spoilers.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Im looking forward to the Wintersday event despite the fact im not sure i’ll be around for most of it. I have just one issue with this event and those of the past however:
Telling us what is going to happen in the event makes a mockery of the event itself.
I understand the need to tell people roughly what is going to happen to encourage people to come on but actually telling people the exact activity that will be available? This breaks the realism which is something I thought GW2 strives to accomplish. Why is it necessary to say what the Toypocalypse is going to be about for instance? How does whoever it is know what is going to happen in the future?
Please stop telling us exactly what is coming up- the Karka event was good but it couldve been special had I not have known that a huge karka would invade Lions Arch. Just say that an unknown sea creature (or whatever) has been seen in the waters off xyz and looks to be heading towards Lions Arch. Current estimates suggest —:-- as the time it will reach. As for the Toypocalypse event just say something like ‘Tixx may require an extra few hands to help tidy up his crazy contraptions so volunteers are needed at —:--’. It adds suspense and means youre not ruining the surprise which, in my opinion, would make these events even better.

Im presuming its being worked on so when can we expect a fix for this VERY annoying bug?
I dont usually moan about bugs as they usually get fixed eventually and its just a game however when im taking time out of my schedule to do these runs, only to get DC’d and not be able to enter again, its a waste of time and effort.

Azure Railgun (Rifle) is another that is pretty huge.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
I advertise myself to prospective parties as a ‘Rifle Warrior’ for good reason- I hate seeing our class with Greatswords running into dungeons. Dont get me wrong, GS have their uses but I want to be both a damage dealer and a valuable member of the team. Yes, TEAM. I run a shouts heal build that focuses on boon stacking, specifically Might. 2x Pirate, 2x Monk, 2x Water for a total of 30% boon duration plus 20% Might duration. Might on crit for my rifle and bam, a constant 18-20 stacks of might, more if another member is giving it.
It may not be the best build and yes, it caters to those using a GS more (due to the Might on GS crit trait) but ive made it work by using a ’zerk rifle instead of a Knight GS. Full Knights set for the majority, full ’zerk set for occasions such as fighting the Maw, spare Knights set with Divinity runes in case im stacking too much Might and im healing the party as im running around.
Also run with a axe/shield for a quick 3sec block + power stacking using a Blustlust sigil, and I add ‘Endure Pain’ during the harder fights. Job done as far as im concerned.
tl;dr – I hate crappy warrior builds as well and im a warrior myself

Ive personally got no problems with the waypoint system as it stands because I think of it in terms of real life. Say you wanted to travel to the opposite side of this beautiful park. You can walk through, admiring the scenery and maybe meeting a friend on a certain bench for a coffee in the sun or they run a gondola service available for just £1/€1 that will take you anywhere you like. Would you ask the gondola rider if he would take you for free?
As for the whole Mists>LA ‘workaround’ I see this as a legitimate way to travel. The Mists are an area between worlds or dimensions. Traveling there is less about moving forward as moving over to another plane. The Asurans have built a portal in this ‘magical’ area that teleports people to Lion’s Arch for free. LA is the hub of Tyria and so I dont see any issue with this so called workaround. In fact I see this as the way you should travel providing you can put up with the teleports(loading screens).

Id agree that ele’s are probably the best class as they can do a lot of different things necessary in WvW. AOEs, a great deal of CCs, great abilities such as Ride the Lightning that allow for a quick escape and can do quite a lot from range.
I however enjoy my Rifle Warrior in WvW. So long as I stay at range I can take any one player down and/or finish them with a stupid amount of burst damage.
As for thieves…. dont ever think about glass cannon build. Yes they are very powerful but people are waking up to the fact that the majority of thieves play with this style and they’ll target you. Rest assured you’ll go down quicker than you can say “Ouch!”

~500hrs since launch but im regularly bumming around in LA and chatting with guildies. Also have my own Youtube channel so a lot of time went towards recording Vistas, jumping puzzles, personal story and the in game events.
If my math is correct that’s at least 5,5 hours per day every day in the last 3 months?
Pretty much although its more one day off, one day on as I hang out with friends and do other things. Video processing….. bain of my life atm and im doing it for just over 40 subscribers lol. Oh well….
5.5hours is a fair bit but its not a huge amount. Half my gold, equipment and extras and then factor in half my achievements (such as 100% map completion), half the time I spend recording ect and youve got a 1-2hour a day player (or as some would like to see it the average GW2 gamer). Its still quite easy to acquire gold just by having fun.
Oh and FYI I do run Fractals and make a decent amount of gold from it. Only up to level 20 with a regular group so not exactly grinding that either and im getting maybe 50-75s per run and progressing towards ascended gear.

So ive been wondering what the main reason behind ‘grinding’ for gold is and im stumped.
Im many MMOs the main reason to grind gold is to get your character the ‘max power’ for PvPing. In GW2 the PvP game is completely separate from the PvE side of things except of course for WvW. So when talking purely about PvE and WvW the task of getting to ‘max power’ is (arguably) very easy. The vast majority of level 80 players are already wearing full exotics (correct me if im wrong) and if not there are many ways to get exotics that do not involve gold.
Gold hasnt been that hard to come by for me. Personally ive never farmed gold in any location since launch and im full exotic with 10 exotic weapons(various weapons, various sigils) and three armour sets (different runes). 7k gems(bought with gold), over >300 ectos sitting in my bank along with…lets just say >100g. Where have these all come from? Enjoying the game, having fun, doing things I enjoy such as dungeons. Sure these methods arent the optimum way to grind gold but ive had fun.
Anyway I went off topic slightly- my question is why would someone want to ‘grind’ for gold? The only reason I can think of is to get a legendary or another armour set but if thats the case then surely by grinding via the ‘optimum method’ youre both reducing the fun youre having playing the game AND reducing the games lifespan. Im thinking about an exotic but realise that there’s no rush and i’ll get there eventually by having fun and playing at my own pace.
This isnt a thread attacking those that grind. I myself did enjoy a grind in MMOs of the past but I just dont see the reason behind grinding gold in GW2. Please enlighten me. Is it just impatience? Wanting what others have? The whole ‘im better than you because I have a legendary’ thing? Help me understand!

I wouldnt normally post but the amount of threads popping up is silly….
The recent AMA provides a lot of information regarding how Ascended items were never meant to be a FotM exclusive. Expect revamped maps, dungeons and WvW which will bring new and ‘more interesting’ ways to gain Ascended equipment. This will counteract the current trend of deserted maps due to the FotM dungeon.

FYI I love the Fractals

So essentially youre asking for a multiple map WvW but with player names visible and a few more events? A game such as GW2 doesnt need these FFA areas due to a combination of:
- a lack of a need to ‘camp’ a good grinding spot.
- the fact you can store gold and items in a bank, so nothing better than the items gained during WvW would drop. Players would port out and store valuables after they get them before coming back in.
- WvW is available.
Its would be nice to have more events in WvW, this I agree with. Everything else is asking for something that is already inside of the game.

1) Any plans on extending the customisable options of for character further than having different armour sets and dying them? For example slots placed into the armour that you could put visual upgrades in to further enhance your uniqueness, being able to specifically dye each armour piece you have so that when you change sets you change colour and a visual indication (which can be turned off) of what accessories you are wearing.
2) (small one) Any plans on being able to use Basic Transmutation Stones in the Mystic Forge? Post-80 theyre useless so it would be nice to be able to transform 10/15/20 into a single Fine Transmutation Stone.
3) (small one) Any plans on being able to place exotic runes into the Mystic Forge?
4) Any plans on having a cheap, stackable or unlimited item that can reset trait points outside of the class NPC?
5) Are there any plans to better utilise maps such as Divinity’s reach to provide more content to these huge, beautiful places? One time events are great but if there was something persistent in these areas it would encourage more people to spend time there.
6) Any plans on increasing the numbers per server?
7) Any plans on balancing WvW based on the number of players participating? Nightcapping is a huge issue in my opinion. An example of this is that the French servers have a larger proportion of players participating at night time due to French-Canadians joining French EU servers. While this shouldnt be frowned upon, it doesnt represent accurately the player strength of each server, that that more players are playing at ‘unsocial hours’.
8) One issue that my server has is that time and time again we get drawn against two French servers who proceed to team up against us. Do you see this as an issue and if so would you consider bringing in filters that prohibit two servers from the same country from being placed in the same WvW matches?
All I can think of for now. Sorry if some have been asked before and feel free to weed out the unimportant ones.

Its late and my mind isnt 100% there so im listing in bullet points!
1) Love the FotM dungeon and think its a great idea however there needs to be a way to party with different difficulty levels. I believe its something the devs are looking into (from talk on forums).
2) The difficulty barrier is what drove me to join an active guild and im happier for it. We run two lots of FotM most days so we’re not grinding it, just progressing at our own pace. What is the rush? Ive found very little drop difference between level 1 and level 12 difficulty so its not like we’re missing out much. Just have fun doing it and youll get there eventually.
3) Lions Arch is a bad place for the dungeon to be located. I made a post about this but it got deleted because I wrote ‘petition’ in the title.
4) Ascended items are kinda vertical progression but its not like theyre hugely affecting WvW as it stands with only rings and the backpiece available. Got more kills than ever today in WvW and ive got no ascended gear, just a new build that I was testing out for the Fractals. Work at Fractals slowly and youll get there. My guild FotM party have got 3 rings between us doing the level 10 and 12 daily. Not like its that hard.
5) Get yourself a regular FotM group with Teamspeak. Makes encounters a lot easier to handle. The higher in difficulty your party is at, the less chance of failing you have provided you have a balanced group because as you play you gain more experience with the dungeon and boss mechanics and animations.
6) Dont think you can go in there with a glass cannon build. You’ll need toughness and/or vitality to survive. Pointless saying “Im DPS” when youre laying on the floor dead.
7) Lost the link but its been confirmed that the regular dungeons are going to be made ‘more attractive to run’ including making story mode runs ‘worth doing multiple times’. This could mean better drops, more tokens, more things to spend the tokens on…. any number of things.

Sounds corny but this is a guild for everyone. There’s those of us at level 80 with decent gear running Fractals at level 12 and above, there’s those just leveling up and us level 80s helping them and those in lower level fractals being helped up to our level.
We WvW, we dungeon, we’re fun and we’re pretty awesome so come join us! Throw a PM for an invite!

I have two Bloodlust sigils(10pow) – you get two lots of 10 per kill and maxes at 25. Same goes for the Luck Sigil. They proc whichever skill is used on whichever weapon as well.
