What id like to see and what id buy are two different things but i’ll list them all
1) Name change contract- its coming but not fast enough! For too long have I put up with my guildies calling me ‘Theron-ux’ due to the fact my main started life as a mule so I named her Thereonx, my other alt Thereonxx etc. Plus I want a second name!
2) New armour and weapon skins. Not sure why these arent in already as theyd make ANET a hell of a lot of money. Just look at the popularity of the Quaggan backpack!
3) New town clothes but with a reason to own them! More mini games in the world that you can only do in town clothes.
4) WvW finishers!
5) Hairstyles.
6) More ‘GW2 style mounts’.
7) Polymock characters! Ive read a little about what Polymock is and its definitely something id be interested in so having a wide variety of characters (or are they called pieces?) to choose from would be great. Youd get people wanting to ‘collect them all’ like the minis and people like me buying specific ones to go with my style. However there should still be rare ones only available through the game.
Thats all I can think of. Of course id like expansion content but I think ANET would be silly releasing expansion content via gems as those with gold hoarded would get it for free. Just release it for a fixed price and the same amount of people would buy it. The only upside I can see to selling for gems would be the relatively short term gain of gems being more sort after and therefore their gold price increasing, causing more people to buy gems for gold. But personally I see this as a short term thing.

There’s been a few along the way but my nod goes to a guy a ran into while leveling a couple of days after launch
Mr Butter.
I dont know why but it tickled me! It made me laugh even harder when I heard “WTF why is this random guy sending me butter?!” from about 10 people on map chat and him replying with “Im Mr Butter, its my job!”. Hats off to you sir!
Here’s something amazing for you- I moved to Desolation from Gandara a couple of weeks ago to join my current guild. I was chatting in guild chat when I noticed a name that I thought familiar, a guy called Master of Butter and I asked him if he used to be on another server. Yup, youve guessed it, same guy! Of all the guilds to join, on all the servers in the game and we ended up in the same one! Bare in mind even when I laughed at his ‘butter-giving antics’ I didnt know him or even see his character!
Creepy coincidence or something more sinister?

Well if youre running around in a zerg then either really. If, however, you choose to get creative and join a WvW guild then all sorts of possibilities open up. We focus heals and defense on a tanky Guardian who ‘absorbs’ the damage you see when you encounter a zerg/larger group. Its a tactic that has served us well but I myself play a Hammer Warrior. I used to hate the hammer but started using it just as a change and in large group battles the F1 skill is immense. Its built for control so while I dont do a great deal of damage im forever getting credit for kills because im helping kill. Think what you can bring to your party.

An MMO I used to play many years ago had an ‘instanced’ area called the Colosseum in which players could battle each other and face no penalties. This would be very easy to implement considering the fact GW2 has WvW. Just take the ‘world rules’ from WvW, make each player be on their own team and create free waypoints.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
I think I understand what the OP is saying- its the ‘kill ten rats’ aspect of MMOs that GW2 said it was doing away with and yet we have it in game. I personally have no direct issue with this aspect and the dailies are very much more enjoyable with the new system. However I do agree that the ‘kill ten rats’ aspect could be changed very easily.
I say do away with numbers and implement a system based on ‘work done’. For example say we’re talking about a heart that normally requires you to set 20 Ettin traps. What about replacing this number with a ‘work done’ bar similar to those you get when doing gathering DEs? Have the bar be exclusive you you (unlike DE bars) and include things such as killing Ettins trying to destroy the traps into the ‘work done’. Also dont set it as ‘do 20 things to fill the bar’, make the number random between 18 and 24 things so its more unpredictable and you dont know when youre going to be finished (but obviously dont give too much to do). Its a pretty ‘simple’ fix which would bring a hell of a lot more immersion to the game IMO.

A month or so after launch I was in Queensdale killing spiders for some reason and one dropped a White dye. Was so happy as I was just mulling around the place killing random things. Also got Abyss dye after deciding to open a dye during the fight with a spider boss in TA. From that point on I was opening all my dyes when fighting bosses!…until they increased in price to 15s+ each
The other unexpected ‘drop’ is actually a bad thing- I did FotM difficulty 26 for a month and didnt get a single ring while I watched as my guild leader got twelve in that time. 3 weeks in I thought id finally got my first infused ring….ended up getting the Fractal Hammer. I dont use hammers -.- Its currently sitting in my bank making my guildies annoyed that I cant give it to them.

Having suffered depression for a fair few years now I can also agree that immersing yourself in a varied game world is a huge help. While I dont go as far as to call it ‘therapy’, having some way of taking your mind away from the real world is a great relief.
A few of years ago I became addicted to MMO gaming and had to drag myself away due to the fact it was starting to dominate my real life. I went cold Turkey for a couple of years until Guild Wars 2 came along and while I do sometimes long for the ‘grind’ that so many people complain about such as a recovering alcoholic craves the strong stuff, I do enjoy that I can put GW2 down, go away and come back having not missed anything.

Woah woah woah….I make a post then a load of people post after me saying ‘nerf Arah’!
I like Arah and I especially like its difficulty and im sure id do Path 4 again in the future, not just for the title (hell im in no rush for the title). However I firmly believe Simin needs a reworking but certainly not a flat out ‘nerf’. Keep it difficult but dont make it impossible for certain groups.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
My party were placing sparks into their slots using just two players with full movement speed boosts. We did so in no longer than 8 seconds on more than one occasion and never got close to downing her.
Simin’s health regen is just too high. The very fact that there’s a dedicated post on the forums must indicate that something is not right with the encounter. Im not even saying make it easier, im saying make it possible with every party combination. Give Simin some hard-hitting attacks that you have to do something like throw tears at her to avoid….make the AOE circles bigger….make it so that each set of sparks you get in ‘corrupts’ the statue and means Simin can only heal to 95% of her health, then 90 then 85…. Hell combine all of the above and make her hit harder the more times you have to put the sparks in.
I love a challenge but after spending over two hours at Simin trying everything Youtube could offer I can only conclude that for our party the task was impossible. Its not great coming to that conclusion 4 hours into a dungeon.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
I know the typical response is going to be ‘wait and see’ but there’s no harm in asking!- will we be seeing the name change contract introduced in the February patch? Also, because I like asking questions that I shouldnt ask, will it be available as a rare drop from a BL chest or just as a gem purchase?
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
I wouldnt normally say anything but posts like this hurt the game and should be removed from the forums. I dont condone excluding any class from any dungeon, and I myself am a Warrior.
Ignore the part of the guide states what class you should be and play it with whatever class you want. Running Path 1 with a mixture of classes will only add a minute or two onto your run which wont matter unless youre grinding the dungeon. In which case id suggest ANET buff the dungeon to stop people grinding it.
I truely hope no new player sees this ‘guide’ and chooses a class based on it.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Trust me, if you failed with the group comp you posted it wasn’t the professions that held you back. Even thinking that “the poison” would do anything tells me that you were obviously not educated about the Simin fight.
Chalking up their lack of sleep to ANet’s design or “flaw” of a boss is also ludicrous. No mechanics are flawed, they actually just got tweaked (for the better, mind you).
Sorry, try again. You guys just weren’t good enough!
There’s one issue- I dont trust you. The poison was just an extra brought by our ranger, we wasnt ‘gimping’ DPS or anything else by using it. Also what dont you understand about ‘we tried every strategy’ which means you then call us ‘uneducated’? After an hour of trying we took to youtube to figure out the strategies used by others and tried all that we could find.
Also a ‘lack of sleep’ wasnt an issue with the fight itself, it was an issue for the following morning for those needing to work. So please hold off commenting before you understand what im actually saying.
The sparks were not an issue as we eventually worked out that two members could get the sparks in within a few seconds before the whole group DPS’d the boss after she re-appeared. The fix only affected the so called ease of getting the sparks into the slots, not Simin’s health regen. Its the regen that needs a fix because to spend that amount of time in a dungeon only to be halted by a mechanic that my party couldnt overcome….why bother? Id happily say we wasnt good enough if we kept dying or couldnt understand a puzzle but we understood what we had to do, going in with two members that had completed the boss before. We still couldnt do it.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
My guild have just tried P4 and four hours later we gave up at…youve guessed it, Simin (Dwayna).
The group comprised of a Ranger, two DPS warriors, a Mesmer and a DPS Ele. We tried every tip, trick, strategy and guide we could find but simply put we didnt have enough DPS to negate the heal, even with poison. Now to me that is awful for a game like GW2 that prides itself on ‘skill-based’ encounters. We could not overcome this challenge due to the classes that we chose to enter the dungeon with.
Simply put this needs to change. Even if after the fix the fight takes 2 hours, as long as Simin can actually be killed id be happy. To say im annoyed is an understatement as members of my party will only get a couple of hours sleep tonight before work tomorrow due to a flawed mechanic. Nothing forced us to play but the ‘love’ of the game…certainly for me that ‘love’ is being severely tested in recent weeks.

Im also in Desolation and the long queues for WvW are a result of us being successful. Generally the more successful a server is, the longer the queue. However the queuing system is broken at the moment- its not first come first served and so re-queuing frequently is a batter strategy than just sitting around in the queue.
Either way, expect about an hour wait during peak times.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Im also a shouts heal warrior but havent focused on the healing, rather I use it as an extra form of support that is useful rather than life-saving. I dont use any Clerics so the heals are only ~1200 per shout because I feel that a Warrior’s main role isnt support. Thats my opinion but id like to think that ive pretty balanced in as much as I support, I can reduce damage by wearing the Knight set (doesnt gimp power or crit) and I do damage by using berserker weapons and accessories.
In WvW however ive just started using a very different build that revolves around the Hammer and im loving it. The control you give to your group is amazing and is in many situations more important than dealing damage. However I do switch to Axe+Shield when one/two on one.
Play the character how you see fit. If youre going down a lot then change build. The difference between the absolute ‘optimum’ warrior build and most other builds is very small in this game. Dont run a signet-GS build for dungeons however… great for leveling but its something all Warriors should grow out of once they hit 80.

Before we were told what was coming and when it would happen which was over the course of a few days (Karka event). Now we have a progressing mystery event with Heralds giving clues, weird children sending us drawings, refugees appearing and some just dying on the way to safety. The suspense is new and a larger timescale is needed to build that suspense.
As for the ‘expansions worth of content’ everyone is referring to please dont just shorten it to ‘expansion’ because theyre two very different things. What was meant was that a huge amount of changes and activities would be introduced over the next three months. January is the smallest of these three large patches and if you saw the release notes it was still a huge patch. Dont forget patch content = balances and fixes as well, not just new events and items (which we still got!).

We all feel your pain sometimes but keep the faith! WvW isnt the well run machine we all want it to be but its fun as hell once you get into it. If you havent already try running with your guild (or get a guild that WvWs)- the fun of creating tactics and trying them out is great.

Its not all about ‘letting everyone participate’! This is an unfolding story and the very first part involves helping the refugees flee from SOMETHING. What that something is remains a mystery but there are more and more refugees flowing into Hoelbrak and BC each day.
This event is a story and as such is a brand new type of event. I think having an indefinite pause between ‘chapters’ is an exciting way to introduce a major event happening ‘later in the book’. I love the idea because even though the first chapter wasnt majorly interesting it has set the tone for the rest of the event. Something big is about to happen and no one knows what!
Edit: (In response) Im a serious player and I play the game less than I did a month or so ago. I am, however, just as interested in the game as I ever was. If I get bored with something like the Fractals I dont do them and I go play something else. That is how this game has been designed. Im not 100% happy with GW2 but happy enough to keep faith.

One tip I can give for the queues is to get yourself in the main LA server and every five minutes or so re-enter a queue. Until they fix the queue system its a free for all to get in because queuing for longer doesnt necessarily mean youll be first in.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Badges of Honor are from WvW only. Dont grind them, just collect them over a period of time. Legendaries are designed to be made over a long period and anyone wanting to get one quickly needs to ‘grind’ WvW. Youre not forced to grind, you choose to.
As for queueing for ‘3 hours’ id love to know which server youre in because im in a Tier 1 server and the longest its taken is 80 minutes to get in. Please stop over-exaggerating.

I see so many complaining about achievement points these days and I dont understand why! Doing a daily for 25/29/whatever points doesnt make it nearly six times more important than equipping a legendary! Achievement points are just random numbers assigned to achievements that are designed to boost up your total points. It doesnt matter that some give less points because im pretty sure the majority that are playing the ‘achievement game’ arent doing it for total achievement points, theyre doing it to complete all achievements themselves. Hell, just do Entropy if youre interested in total points!

Seriously you felt the need to post this? Events are the main draw of GW2 and having them in the dailies and monthlies encourages people to travel to different maps. If you get bored of Orr events go elsewhere. There are plenty of interesting and varied DEs in the game and saying “I dont like DEs” is like saying “I dont like food”. DEs are the opposite of grinding because you dont have to do the same one multiple times.
As for the ‘choosing 4/6 events’ that will be introduced next patch, this has been said many times on these forums.

During the Wintersday event I kicked up a little bit of fuss regarding the immersion-breaking way in which the event was announced. Now it would be very big headed of me to assume that thread had any impact on the current Flame & Frost event but I have to say im very impressed at the way the information has been given out!
Whereas before we had a run-down of the whole event to come including the Toypocalypse finale as if looking into the future, we now have well thought out dialogue detailing what is going on and how us Tyria citizens can help. Any further information (for those wanting to know what exactly has been added) has been placed in the release notes and linked to on the main event page.

- a single spoiler in there but I cant complain otherwise!
Everything this time around seems better thought out with regards to not telling us exactly what we need to do. I cant help but feel that if this event started 2 months ago we’d have been told exactly what needed doing and where. Im immersed in the content and while the very first event wasnt too interesting I did feel as though I was actually helping a cause.

I have a Sylvari female warrior as my ‘main’ and it is true what the OP says about having very few armour sets that seem to work on our race. HOWEVER I have three sets that all seem to fit together well, but are made up of varying pieces all tied together with the cultural T2 shoulders that I have on all three sets.
The main theme for Sylvari is the ‘natural look’ but if you look at certain armour pieces you can see influence from nature. For example on two of my sets I have the Draconic Gauntlets because the metal, to me, looks like petal leaves. Green/purple/red dye and youre good to go. Also I think about what each set should look like with regards to the situation I use it in. For example my dungeon set is Knights and therefore should look stronger than my Berserker set. In my mind relying on leaves to protect you in dungeons is a stretch so my character bought stronger armour made of metal and then customised it (dyed it, used with T2 shoulders) to be ‘more Sylvari’.
I would LOVE to have more choice, dont get me wrong but youve got to make the most out of what youve got and im happy at the moment.

I dont understand how people can moan about playing the Mystic Lottery! The idea is that you have two choices with obtaining a precursor- save your gold and buy one or purchase a lottery ticket with a tiny chance of winning. This chance will more than likely mean you spend a lot more than actually buying the thing, but COULD mean you spend less.
There’s only one real winner in gambling in real life and its certainly not you. If you were guaranteed to get, say, Dusk after spending 400m on rares/exotics and Dusk costs 400m on the TP(ive not checked the price in a while!) then EVERYONE will gamble to get it because youre guaranteed to spend the same/less than its ‘worth’.
I like RNG and always will. I gamble when I want to have a little fun and more often than not I lose gold but its the thrill of gambling that makes it worth it. When I dont think I will get that thrill I just save/sell the items and take away the gamble. The only exception to this was when I bought 14k Halloween bags aiming to make a profit after the event only to see prices plummet. I needed the space on my alt so decided to open them all and write off the 20g investment. 14k bags in I got the endless tonic but it wouldntve mattered either way.

We can all agree that Legendaries are a missed opportunity but I see them now as expensive skins and just ignore the name given to them. Maybe in the future they’ll bring out ‘Ancestral’ weapons that actually involve skill and a story to get but time will tell.
Name: Nature’s Purge
Weapon: Axe
Skin: It would look like a moving, living plant like axe with vines that wrap themselves up your arm. Think a more robust Kudzu design. The blade itself is long and thin akin to that of a scythe extending down further than the vines, made of corrupted ‘dragonbrand’ crystal.
Effect: The idea is that at night the corrupted crystal infuses the vines, making them change to a deep purple. The vines wrapped around your arm(s) give off a green aura during the day and a purple aura at night. No footprints but the axe would shed glowing leaves and flowers at a fairly slow rate during the night due to the corruption ‘fighting’ against the natural growth of the living axe. The blade would glow slightly day and night.
Really this kind of idea could be for any weapon but im an axe user so im a little biased! Plus im a Sylvari female so the Frostfang is far too….icy for my character’s looks!

At the end of the day its only those with multiple characters that are moaning about the laurel system so I dont think things should be changed because of this minority of people. There is also one big huge oversight that so many of you are missing- do you really think theyre going to make laurels the only way to acquire amulets? Seriously? They’ll introduce them to the Fractals soon enough, just have to be patient.

You cant buy the infusions from in there, no.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Ive already made my feelings clear but having thought about it further what about this:
You can do the daily on any number of characters.
You choose one character to be your ‘main’ character.
‘Main’ character can buy anything, other characters are limited to items that can be soulbound (so this would exclude dyes for example)
That way those that have more characters arent really gaining an advantage over others but can still spend time to gear their characters up by doing the dailies.
I have just two level 80s so for me the current system works neither for or against me.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
If you want me to answer the question at hand- no I dont think that dailies and monthlies should be character-bound. This is a slap in the face to those that maybe dont have the time to raise a million level 80s. Its only those with multiple 80s that are asking for this so that’ll tell you all you need to know.

Buying an expansion would depend on just what content was becoming available. If it was just an expansion of the current game (new maps, classes, add-ons) then im not sure I could warrent spending a sizable amount on that expansion. I have real issues with just how easy the game is and im by no means a ‘hardcore gamer’. Just hearing that players have 5+ max level characters makes me sad and I really dont buy into this ‘entire game is end-game’ stuff. I have enjoyed playing GW2 but as time has gone on I find there is less and less to log in for.
Any expansion would have to address the issue of ease of play. If it didnt then it would have to be cheap to buy for me to think about purchasing and there would be the issue of whether or not another game grabs my attention better than the expansion would. But for every one person that thinks like me there’s probably five that like the ease of leveling so I guess that im in the minority here.

Was just about to sleep and read ^^THIS^^ Awesome summary!
I might stop using the term ‘raid’ and start using the term ‘larger scale, PvE instanced, epic content dungeon’ because its clear the name itself is driving some people crazy! Think the DE+world boss battle against Jormag, expand it with more story-driven DEs, add multiple difficulties and then place it all in an instance with a maximum number of 10/15/20 players and youve got what im talking about. You could also add new features such as (basic) puzzles, traps…and my mind has gone blank as its 3am!
The MAIN point is that id like to see large scale skill and coordination based battles rather than just numbers zerging down a world boss.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
DevilLordLaser I understand your viewpoint and I agree with it in as much as GW2 cannot follow other MMOs formulas to create raid content. I do however think that GW2 lacks that epic feeling and raiding is ONE of the things that I believe would bring that feeling.
One thing id like you to elaborate on however is the reasons behind why you do not think that certain factors of the standard model of raiding wouldnt fit into the GW2 gameplay. What factors prevent certain mechanics working and why do they prevent it? Im genuinely interested as ive had very little experience of raiding outside of a couple of weeks playing private server WoW(not something im proud of btw!). Its all well and good saying “It wont work!” but you need to say what wont work and why wont it work!
As for ‘feeling obliged’ to complete the raid ‘for fear of letting people down’ or ‘making up numbers’ its a non-issue with a dungeon finder. Those that want to do the hardest content will be those that can get a full party together on a regular basis. Those doing lower difficulties can just PuG it using a dungeon party finder. Same as the fractals.

If raids don’t give vertical gear progression would enough people be willing to do them? If the rewards are unique enough and can’t be obtained through other methods then it becomes forced.
First off im glad you asked a question as opposed to stating outright that people wouldnt be interested. I am one of 3 million people so im not going to sit here and say that the community would embrace raids without vertical progression, im just here to state my opinions and the more important fact that raids do not HAVE to have vertical progression. ANET can make their raids the way that they want to.
Secondly its a downer im afraid- having items in game that are solely acquirable in certain areas, but DO NOT give stat gains over regular gear, doesnt mean youre forced to do these areas. No one is forced to do dungeons for the dungeon armours so why would they be forced to raid for the raid armour? Just create some unique raid armour sets with the same old boring stats as we currently have on named exotics and thats it!
I personally would love an RNG based set but thats my own personal preference based on the fact I actually like RNG in games! But thats besides the point im trying to make.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Id argue that specific builds are more useful in smaller parties than larger ones as if there are a handful of useless players in large parties they have even less of an impact.
This swings the other way, too. A single awesome player is sorta drowned out by nine mediocre cheesewheels in a large ramble of players, with little to no chance to actually display his abilities. It’s one reason damage calculators and the like became popular in Warcraft – people couldn’t naturally tell who on their team was sucking the stovepipe when there were so many candidates to choose from without third-party assistance.
This is GW2…its not as ‘hard’ as other MMOs. All you would have to do is introduce a scaled difficulty. Those doing the hardest difficulty would be expected to be skilled just like in the highest level of fractals. You generally dont take PuGs into high level content so the highest difficulties would be reserved for guilds/groups that think/know each member is skilled enough. Simples!
