Read this http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro it explains the mechanics well with hints regarding how to gain/lose aggro. Mechanics do vary according to what you are fighting.

If someone wants to show their gear it can be linked but it is only a small part of the story. The best gear means nothing with a bad build ie traits and chosen skills. It should be all of those things or nothing. What is the point of only looking at gear?
Share the gear and skills/traits page in the Hero Panel or nothing.
Seems like a lot of hard work to replace the “link” method. I would rather the team spends time on bugs, LFG panel, content and so on. Bottom of the list of things to do please.
With regard to the Combat Analysis thing. Modify the Combat info we get and/or add a function to log chat etc. If we have a log maybe it could be imported to an analysis tool afterwards. Players should be able to choose whether or not to share the info they have IMO.

I haven’t got around to my first Legendary Weapon yet but from what I have read each weapon needs two crafting professions at 400 and the professions vary according to which weapon you want to make.
New players are not always sure which profession(s) to learn. It would seem to me that the first place to look is to find out what you will need to craft your Legendary Weapon.
My first character was a Warrior so I chose weapons and armour crafting because it seemed logical for that character type. Perhaps if I had known about Legendary Weapons I would have looked there first to find out which two professions I would need. I don’t know everything about LWs but I suppose that even if you aren’t sure which sword you might want, for example, you could get a rough idea of what to pick.
So, I would suggest to new players when deciding which crafting professions to learn, assuming you only want two, look here first http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Miyani and read the “Gift of ????” list to see what they all are and which you might need someday.
As an example Leatherworker is needed when making “The Flameseeker Prophecies”, a Legendary Shield. As far as I know the Leatherworker doesn’t make gear for any class which uses a shield so that Profession might be ignored by someone making a Warrior or Guardian both of which can use Shields.
Not everyone would want to learn a new Profession from scratch just to make their Legendary.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
The price is 10 copper for every point you have in your chosen profession.
I have tended to ignore the cost because I can quickly make 30-40 silver. Thinking now about how often I change I suppose it is about once a week so not a lot of money for me.

When I started to play, the 2 day before release day thing, on that same day I started Crafting. It wasn’t long before I had several Characters all with different Professions. Then came the day I wanted to delete a Character and oops had to start learning to Craft those Professions again from scratch.
So, I changed my approach to Crafting and I have just one Character on all Professions. That is to say a Character which, after playing it for aaaaages, I was sure I would never delete him. Now when I need anything from a snack to a sword all I do is pay a few silver to change one of professions to the one I need and bingo.
I like to buy recipes from the Heart guys when I see one. My single crafting guy gets to read them not always the character which trades for them. Remember that you can switch Crafting Professions without forgetting the Recipes you learnt for the one you decided to abandon for a bit.
If you really must get to level 80 quick it isn’t expensive to level up a Cook so make another Cook.
Remember too that at level 80 you continue to get skill points which can be traded for stuff so that extra XP that a single Character gets from learning stuff isn’t wasted.
Worth thinking about.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
but he said it was divided, so in fact this is worst than original MMO’s RNG’s where you actually get to vote on good drops and share amongst yourselves evenly.
No. It means you get full loot. If they kill it as well, the game counts it as two kills, with two loots, each player getting one kill’s worth. If three kill one target, the game counts it as killing three, etc.
And gamblers fallacy means that they’re not stealing from you, as each loot roll is independant of other loot rolls.
So because i have no friends i get discriminated against thus i get handicapped compared to others who have friends, i thought this game didn’t give any advantage over others and that it would also cater to solo players like myself?
Go somewhere and wait for LFG for a Dungeon, Lions Arch is a good place. A lot of people know about the grouping thing so when at an Event just say “can someone invite me to a group?”, works almost every time if it doesn’t start making your own group people really don’t care if they know the others or not.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
So your saying crafting is only profitable at 400. I only have cooking at 400 now.
I would say about 300 if you choose to make the right stuff and choose the right profession but the profit is very low at 300 (a few silver but it can go towards levelling 300 to 400).
IMO a Cook will never make any money, try a Weaponsmith or Armourer, I make the most from my Weaponsmith but I only make the 375 recipes to do so because the mats are so easy to find in world (salvage for globs of ectoplasm to sell), I think there are better ways to make money on crafting I just can’t be bothered to do anything else I prefer playing the game (Events, etc).
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
From memory the spawn thing is hit one chicken and she spawns two more so hit 3 you get 9 attacking you and so on, all of them with Champion hitpoints and DPS to envy. I did it a few times, great fun but needs a group really.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
I was a Minstrel (Healer) in LOTRO. Standing at the back trying not to steal aggro could be very boring sometimes but that was my character type so I was stuck there, switching to DPS was an option but most of the time all people wanted was a Healer. I rolled a Guardian (tank/aggro guy) just to get some variety.
I find it nice here not to be stuck in one role. I like being able to switch roles without seeing LFG Healer and only being expected to do just that. Heal yourself, whatever I do I can always buff you, remove debuffs, heal a bit with 3/4 of my characters while still dishing out some pretty good DPS. Variety is the spice of life.
The last thing I want is to be forced to make more than one character just so I can choose DPS, CC, Support, Healing and so on.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
I think three things.
Why is that person a Commander? Ego, wants that icon on the map, wants to give the impression that he/she is a better player, etc?
I really hope that icon person doesn’t get bossy in an Event. It has happened to me and I think why the kitten gives that person to say “I am a commander shut up and do what I say”?
What a waste of gold.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
I play with 4 character types. I think of all of them as “Main” characters. Pick one of each you might like to play and have that many mains. Don’t forget that getting to level 80 takes only a shortish time anyway so at 80 after a time of exploring, getting a legendary, etc you will probably make another character anyway.
I find it nice to swop between types, makes the game more interesting.
If you really feel you must have only one main then take a char type to PvP where your character is lvl 80 with gear, traits and skills. Mess around a bit with the dummies and other PvP players to get a rough feel for skills etc, might help you a bit?
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
Depending upon the professions you choose it can help a bit if you make an Alt at sometime. For example my maxed Lvl 80 Warrior Weaponsmith/Armoursmith was nice to have when I made my Guardian. I don’t think I saved any money though.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
This will help you I think. Noy exactly what you want but helps a lot.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
I have weaponsmith and armoursmith, still working on the rest. Weaponsmith is not bad.
You will have to find the recipe on google but here is how it works.
Profession: Weaponsmith
Points needed: 375/400
Buy an Insignia(s) for recipe to craft a yellow from the NPC.
Make that yellow, I make the axe because I can use Mithril+Planks which makes gathering easier. I find a good place to farm the bones I need is the events in Straits of Devestation.
Salvage what you make with the best kit there is and get 0 to 3 Globs of Ectoplasm per weapon. Sell them for gold or use them for your own crafting saving money if you find yourself having to buy them.
Maybe not the quickest way to make gold but farming mats is easy in Straits of Devestation, more fun than grinding elsewhere. All mats are free. Can sell instantly so no waiting for a buyer there are always lots of orders at good prices. Capturing the Temple of Balthazar gets in the way a tiny bit but of course that does mean you can be sure of being there to get your shards when it is taken!
Edit: Although it might not be the quickest way to get your Karma it isn’t bad especially if you can find a Karma Boost Banner. I tend to think of the Karma as a bonus. Sales from other drops also give a bit of gold, might not be that much but pretty good I think.

Escorting the southern force we got to the water about half way and they dissapeared. Game still says they are on the way but cannot complete because they just aren’t anywhere.
I went back an hour or two later. The southern escort quest still said escort still said they were on the way. Looked at map and it said they were being escorted to the Temple, just about there. Went there and it said “revive” 1/7 left alive. There are only 6 members of the group there. I am now running all over looking for number 7, I figure if I can find where he went maybe I can get him killed but it is a needle in the haystack thing.

Wiki – Fantasy is a genre of fiction that commonly uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. Many works within the genre take place in imaginary worlds where magic is common.
Plot, theme and setting, we have it all. Fantasy has nothing to do with a movie, book or game full of characters doing magic stuff. BTW my warrior can turn into a wolf, bear, raven or snow leapord and my Guardian summons Hounds of Balthazar = magic.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
We don’t need more servers. What we need is for players who don’t logon for a few months to be removed from the server so others can get in. Put them in limbo so if they ever do play again then they can just be forced to choose a server same as we did firt time we played the game.

Get an Alt Girlfriend at your level. It can be a bit tricky but if you make sure they aren’t both in the same Guild it might work.
Seriously I have same problem because my wife’s characters are all low level. I made a Guardian who only plays when she does, level 17 at the moment. It does mean having two Guardians, I got hooked so made one to play with alone, but it has solved the problem.

lol. I don’t think it’s going to work on this one
As far as the fantasy thing goes they are not just lots of magic. I would say most movies/books of that genre have the magic characters as support (Merlin) or support+dps (Gandalf). There is always someone at the front wielding a melee weapon (Conan, Arthur, Dwarves in general, Aragorn … ).

I don’t like Dredgehaunts Cliffs either. I read it was a good place for Platinum or something like that and I desperately needed some.
@Jimm. PvE tends to have less people from what I have read. Maybe it’s a good idea to go to a high populated server you can get into and stand in Lions Arch asking for a Guild that has a decent active membership and a good amount of PvE play. If you don’t find a Guild you like making one is an option, you could even do both of those I think but some Guilds won’t like it.
I like Gunnars Hold for what it is worth. My thing is PvE, I haven’t even been to a Dungeon for ages.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
I am also on Gunnars Hold, moved over from Desolation. There seem to be less people around but on Desolation having so many people around sometimes meant less fun at some Events, people seem to need to spend more time thinking about working together which I like.

A good description Zargnath, it would have taken me 200 words o say the same thing. Jheez do I waffle
As someone who used to be a 5 Signet Warrior, you might hear it called just a Signet Build, it is actually a nice build to play. I found the gameplay much simpler, mostly it means not needing to use the skills on the right at all so it was more about positioning, dodging, etc. IMO they were kind of adding to any stats given to me by gear. I didn’t go down the glass-cannon route (if you don’t know what that means it would be less defense from gear more Power and Precision, Beserker gear gives Power/Precision/+Crit Damage).
Don’t think of it as a bad built. It is a good build but in Dungeons a kamikazee build.
It sounds like you aren’t a Warrior so I will add that support stuff for others comes from things like Banners and Shouts. I am sure if you have been with a Warrior in Battle you have seen those Banners and heard lots of “For great justice” shouting, those things are giving both you and the Warrior boosts etc. Banners and Shouts take up skill slots so 5 signets are obviously impossible.

Two things for you. I’m pretty bad as an Ele, how I got to level 60+ is a mystery He has been in storage for ages but yesterday I spent the day reading up and looking at YouTube for inspiration.
This is a video of someone playing with a Dagger/Dagger Ele with a good build description. Near the end is a bit about how to use the skills which is good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evJ507gkbdg&list=UUeY2qaLgQi25tMXmgVoeYxg&index=6
This is post in the Ele Forum here titles “Mastering the D/D Ele” https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-11-25-12/first which as far as I can tell is pretty much the same build.
I am trying it now. It is very different to what I have tried before but it does make sense and at least I understand better how the Ele works. I suggest you take a look and maybe you will learn some stuff too.

I find some maps have enough people while others have very low numbers. For example today I was in Dredgehaunt Cliffs doing a bit of mining and gathering, the place was almost completely empty with the map full og Events with noone trying. I did a couple, one alone and one with one other player. Later today I took my lower level Ele there because he hadnt been before and I am trying a new build, anyway same Events are all under way just like they were this morning.
On the other hand I find some maps with lots more people. Then again there are often quite a few in Straits of Devastation until Balthazar is done then it empties.
My point is (wo this guy waffles) is maybe you will find more as you play, perhaps you just haven’t been in one of the more popular maps. Who knows?

I couldn’t agree more with “be yourself”. It seems to me you are most comfortable playing games, you mentioned Blizzard too. You also mentioned that the community here is better than that at Blizzard so I am guessing you like reading the Forums. I am a stay at home kind of guy because that is what I enjoy the most.
Never under estimate what can come from talking to fellow gamers. I met my wife in PvP, I am terrible at it but I managed to “kill” her which was followed by chatting about the game etc eventually leading to marriage. In general people come and go (I am 50 so trust me on this one ) but friends stay much longer perhaps forever. I know quite a lot of people in real life but my friends mostly come from playing games.
Actually meeting fellow gamers can be risky/unsafe so be very very careful if you want to meet someone but you don’t have to physically be with someone to call that person “friend”, my family are 1000 KM away but they are still family and always will be.
My point is be yourself. If that means spending most of your time in games don’t worry too much. Friends and acquaintances will come with time in the real world but in general do what you like doing.
Has it occured to you that there are other people like you? Start talking to people you meet at college such as those in your classes, you might find someone who also spands a lot of time in games and if you are lucky GW2.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
Easiest thing to do is to travel to Lions Arch and ask there if you need help with something, lots of normal chat in that place and easy to get to. If you haven’t found it yet there is a portal going there from every starting City.
Otherwise no. Map chat is used for things like saying there is an Event at xxx etc. Conversation seems to be restricted in general to /say.

Regarding using letters which might be common in some languages such as ç or é both of which we use in Spain (I am from the UK living in Spain btw). As far as I know French and Spanish use ç but noone else (?) making it hard to type for people with other keyboards. I have invited people to my Party sometimes by typing the name in rather than just clicking, I am lucky in a way because I have more characters than an english keyboard without all that Alt+???? stuff but most don’t have the kb I have. It is an inconvenience to put it mildly.
I suggest just changing a letter or two. For example in LOTRO I am known as Thord because most of my 6 characters there start with Thord… (Thordbeinyk, Thordalval, etc) so I wanted something starting with Thord here, I have Thordyr best I could do cos Thord is taken. Do what I did and make life easy please Try a Google for elven names or something and you them for inspiration if you get stuck.

An alternative is Character Map. Just ask Windows ro “Run” (Windows key and R if you can’t see a Run thing) charmap.exe then look through the fonts until you find the thing you want. You can copy/paste that to notepad one at a time or whatever and then copy/paste the name into GW2 when you name your character.

I suppose ArenaNet people do read these Forums.
It really would be nice if someone told me what I can do to change this thing, I am thinking of Cookies or something I can enable at my end. I have tried changing security settings, deleting all gw2 cookies in case I did something wrong on my first site visit. Added GW2 official sites to security exceptions etc. I have run out of ideas.
If there is nothing I can do please tell me!
I did a bit of looking around other game sites:
LOTRO – http://www.lotro.com/free.php?lang=en_GB& has Language/Locale Selection
WoW – http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/?- has Language/Locale Selection
Diablo 3 – http://us.battle.net/d3/es/ has Language/Locale Selection
TERA Online – http://tera-europe.com/en/home.html has Language/Locale Selection
Maybe that option is hidden somewhere in a cookie or whatever?
Why haven’t I got that option on the GW2 Site(s)?
Are there plans to add something like language/locale option to the site(s)?
Is there something I cannot find in the Terms of Service etc?

Perhaps it would help to build a closer community if those on one server chat a bit in the Forums. The thing is perhaps that is all it would do, community within servers but I think that Arena want a larger community so that when PvE Guesting starts servers will not be as seperated as they are now. Just trying to think of why we don’t have them.

Dynamic Level Adjustment (DLA) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_level_adjustment is a good idea but it does not go far enough.
At the moment character and gear attributes both go down. The character’s attributes without gear are exactly as they were at the level to which the character drops, nice and a good idea. However I feel that those lower level maps are still too easy.
For example my level 50 Warrior with good gear had a much harder time against level 50 mobs than he does now at level 80 with his exotic level 80 Gear. Of course he does and it is right that the Exotic Gear should make a difference but the difference is too great. As I understand it the point of DLA is to make it more interesting going back to lower level maps but to be honest it isn’t much of a challenge at all.
Three examples to illustrate my point:
Daily Achievement. How many level 80 Characters do that in level 80 maps? I think very very few. I don’t. If I do them with my level 80 Warrior I go back to a lower map and do them there because to do x events, kill x types of mobs, etc is so much easier and faster there.
Yesterday I was in an on level part of a map (about 45 I think) when an Event started, to defend the place I was at. There were also two other characters who, from the appearance of their gear, were a very high level I am guessing at level 80 or close to it. My little Guardian was running all over like a headless chicken but everything was dieing so quickly he hardly had a chance to hit anything because everything was dieing so quickly. I had done that Event a few times before around the right level so I knew it should have been hard work but not this time.
Here is an Event most level 80s will know. Defend the camp next to Ascalonion Catacombs from Harpies. I can almost solo that one with my level 80 Warrior but I am pretty sure I wouldn’t have stood a chance of doing it on level when there for the first time.
Gear obviously is making a huge difference. Too much of a difference.
Try doing Ascalonian Catacombs at level 35 and again at level 80, both are at level 35 but the difference is too great. Dungeon difficulty is something being talked about elsewhere so I won’t get into that argument now I just needed something to illustrate my point.
The penalty inflicted on gear is not high enough.

There is a Task in Bloodtide Coast that includes killing pirates and collecting their Pirate Outfits which you give back to the heart guy. It sounds like you killed lots of Pirates and were left with outfits which the heart guy would not take from you. There are lots of those drop things which can be bought at the Trading Post from tasks all over the game.

Here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_ couldn’t resist being the only player not to answer this question
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
Just the Gear thing.
Gear from the Trading Post is worth looking at from time to time even if you don’t think you need anything. Mostly it is so cheap that at your level all they way to 80ish you might find something you like at a very good price. That new thing might even be a couple of levels below you. While there you could even look at gear just a few levels lower than what you have, for example buying a new level 35 Greatsword that is pretty good can cost about 1 silver, when you Filter at the Trading Post and you are level 40 for example filter from levels 35-40 not only 40.
I agree that in general every 10 levels is when you need to go shopping (not more than 10!) Note that gear does not go up in 0 level leaps but at *5 for crafted and * for drops. Keep looking at the Trading Post in other words.

Yes a few are immune to burning damage.
Some of the Elementalist’s skills do burn, Guardians also have a skill that inflicts burning damage, Warrior’s Longbow has a skill that deals burning damage, I suppose more character types do too but those are all I can remember without checking.
The only difference I have seen between things like fire and ice damage is that ice can slow down mobs (crowd control), burning is damage over time (conditional damage). That is the only difference I can think of, that secondary effects matter but whether it is ice, fire or whatever for the primary damage thing it makes no difference at all.

I think if you want to find more players where you are just go to the most populated server you can find. That said I am in Gunnars Hold and there seem to be enough people although it isnt the highest populated server. Just don’t pick one that says “Low”

How much varies by profession, there might be more info on that you can find with a web search.
There are a lot of Guilds that will give you the Mats you need. If you are already in one ask for advice in Guild Chat (don’t just join a Guild and start asking for Mats, some might even kick you from the Guild if you do so).
You could always use Mats you have gathered or go back to farm low level areas. Farming takes time though so you will miss out on other ways of levelling. It won’t get you to 400 but it will help a bit.
Learning is cheaper the lower level you are in crafting. You can have two professions at a time so maybe level those two up but not as far as 400. I have a level 20 that went to 24 through crafting, he is about 200 in crafting as an Armourer and less in something else from memory.
Remember too that there is no such thing as bad XP. Even if you can only manage to get to 100 it doesnt take long and it does give at least some XP.
Go to the north (Lowland Burns) of Blazeridge Steppes and repeat the Dragon Slaying Event there (The Shatterer) as often as you can, I don’t know the XP exactly but it is hard to die when doing it and it’s a level 50 Event I think, check http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer to find out when the Event will start. Always well attended.
You could also try the Ascolonian Catacombs Dungeon (AC) in Plains of Ashford. Loads of XP there and the things you can trade for with the tokens you get are good at high level, you might feel it a bit early to start farming those tokens but it does take time to get enough so go try it.

Family moved (one more left to do it but … ). We’ll stay at Gunnars Hold, we decided me trying to get back into Desolation was maybe more trouble than it is worth, it is pretty full there.
The reason for moving is there are a few friends on Gunnars Hold so the list of people to hang out with has doubled. Back to the slow upgrade thing, we are going to chip together to buy at least some upgrades with gold.
As this is the Players Helping Players Forum it is worth saying that Guild Influence Points can be bought for not too much Gold from the Guild Promoter so if you do move servers, even if you don’t want to spend too much gold, it is worth visiting him to at least check prices for points. I didn’t know that until our move http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Promoter

Maybe I should add that we are a tiny Guild made up of family members so it takes aaaages to build up enough points to do anything.

Just a small point. In the Human Story, Kessex Hills, Triskell Quay is pronounced Triskall “Kway” instead of Triskall “Key”. Not too bothered but worth a mention maybe.
Server: Gunnars Hold [EU]
With my newest character (Human Guardian) I visited the bottom half of the Norn 1-15 Map followed by all of the Human 1-15 Map which got him to 15.
Now, at level 22, I am in the Human Map 15-25 (Kessex Hills). That should get him to 25 easily.
Next will be Human 25-35 (Gendarran Fields).
With this guy I am less interested in Map Completion and more interested in levels. Visiting every Map with my Warrior (now at 80) meant that by the time he got to Maps at about 50+ his level was so much higher than the mobs things became a bit too easy.
If you are too much above the Map level you will not learn as much. Don’t explore every map as you level up. When you have completed a max level 25 map, assuming you are level 25ish go onto a level 25+ map not another 15-25 map. You will have to think a lot more about how your build is going, choose your skills more carefully, have gear at char level not map level, dodge more and so on. Map completion can be interesting but you can go back for that at level 80, the rewards are OK but not wonderful for map completion when you are above map level.
So, complete the map you are on then go to the next level map assuming your level is high enough. If you are not a high enough level for thje next Map do some Events, they give more XP than going to a another Map of your level so faster.
If you get to about level 40 and you are a bit bored go to the Ascalonian Dungeon. Loads of XP there but get the best gear for your level. I find some groups only want high level players but there plenty of groups at a lower level too.
For rewards worth having try to do your Personal Story on level rather than go back to a level 10 PS thing at level 20 or whatever. If you fail get a couple more levels then try again. XP from the PS is good too.
