Just thought I’d note that since the last patch, when your WvW queues pop the GW2 bar on the taskbar will flash and you’ll hear the horn sound when the game is minimized, which is the same when your PvP queue is ready. Previously, you got no notification at all and could easily miss a queue if you had the game minimized. This wasn’t documented in the patch notes but is a very welcome change indeed.
There were some good things about the patch afterall. Who says we never get anything good? Thanks ANet.

I totally agree. I feel that Retreat! and Save Yourselves! were only added in such a way so as to emphasise the ‘cowardice’ that Anet keeps insisting that Logan showed in the battle against Kralkatorrik.
Both those shouts, silly as it seems, really affects my enjoyment of playing Guardian.
Lore wise, wouldn’t it be an ultimate act of bravery on the guardian’s part to draw all of the party’s conditions onto himself and bear their burden? There was a skill which did this in GW1 too which I’d argue was more aptly named:

It seems guardian/warrior shouts are occurring randomly from your character. It’ll hopefully be fixed soon. No need to rage or get offended tho.
As I said elsewhere, XP is a 13 year old OS which isn’t even supported by Microsoft anymore. I wouldn’t even expect ANet to keep supporting it. It’s long past time to upgrade your systems if you wanna run modern software.
I guess there were some good things about this update after all.
I don’t think they ever intended first person view to be used for combat. It was more for screenshot taking/admiring the view, etc. If you saw your weapon in first person view, it would probably annoy a lot more people than those who want it.

I don’t even know how to get it to stream. When I add the “-StreamingClient” to the end of it, I just get a typical “file location cannot be found” error.
What am I doing wrong exactly?
You need to add the -StreamingClient part outside of the quotation marks, e.g:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -StreamingClient
Just add -StreamingClient to the end of your shortcut. Then it can download whilst you play, etc. There’s no reason to wait for files to download anymore (unless the base ones to make the game playable.)
They should make the streaming client the default behavior. I guess they will in future and it’s only in testing for now.
NA prime was always busy on T2, tbh. The difference is the coverage in the off-hours timezones. T1 has vastly more coverage around the clock than the T2 realms.
Well, you know enemy ranks generally because they are shown. For example, if a “Blackgate Legend” was on my screen I’d know his WvW rank was between 120 and 150.
It’s relatively easy to whisper enemies in WvW though. You can just party them or add them to your block list and get their account name, then whisper them. He probably chatted with him and learned his exact rank through this method.
So yeah, you’re not totally anonymous to the enemy but you have to go out of your way to communicate with an individual.

WvW is the last bastion for tight-knit communities in this game. Actual communities are a dying breed in MMOs in general these days. They’re being constantly replaced by this incessant need to “merge” everything under the guise of having everyone playing together and more people in the same spot = better. In reality, it doesn’t quite work out that way.
With megaservers/merges/cross-realm zones/whatever, all you end up with are 100 random people playing solo gathering together in the same space briefly to achieve some task. Afterwards, they all leave and go about their separate business. The actual “community” aspect of these gatherings are in reality minimal. The other 99 random players may as well be NPCs. They’re just a passing fixture of the map which you don’t interact with meaningfully 99% of the time. You wouldn’t remember or recognize anyone 5 minutes later since with those systems the players around you change so frequently anyway also (much like the EoTM teams.) It makes the game seem busy, but the actual “community” which should be at the heart of these gatherings is, in reality, non-existent.
When I go into my server’s WvW areas, people recognize me. They know who I am. They know what I sound like. They know my personality and they know which classes I play and what I’m capable of. I also know them and know what they play and how they play it. We know this because we play together on a daily basis week in, week out and have been doing for months… and in some cases years. Sure there’s a natural ebb and flow of people coming in and leaving, but the changes are gradual and the community core is preserved as a result. The new people slowly integrate into the community themselves and become part of it.
I’d wager many people like WvW for this community aspect alone. You don’t have to be some anonymous entity spamming 1 at a Tequatl spawn in some megaserver blob that changes depending on which map you happen to find yourself in: you can actually be someone who is recognized and form friendships with servermates who you consistently play with in good times and in bad, both in-game and within your own server community’s website/forums/TS. That is what makes WvW appealing to many people and what makes the WvW communities as strong as they are.
In theory, it’s probably really easy to “balance” WvW teams. What you suggested would probably be fine from a pure balance POV. But WvW is about much more than this and clinically looking at solutions which purely address balance whilst ignoring the real heart and soul of what WvW is truly about would be a huge mistake and the end of WvW as a meaningful game mode for many who have this deeper appreciation for the community aspect too.
A commander is only as good as the group following him.
Whilst partially true, an excellent commander knows the limits and capabilities of whatever group s/he has following them at any given time and tends to get the most out of whichever situation they find themselves in with the resources at their disposal.

Yet another whine about actually having to put some genuine effort in to actually earn an achievement/title. People want everything to be easy mode these days and get upset when faced with something remotely challenging which may require grouping up in an MMO or having to use one’s brain and adapt to complete.
If you’re on SoS, there have been numerous weeks when it has dropped down into a T3 matchup where it completely dominates the other two servers and owns most of everything on the map. It is really clear you’ve literally stepped foot into WvW for maybe 10 minutes, couldn’t get your objective because there happened to be a fight nearby and have come straight to the forums to whine. GG.
Being on a T2 server is probably one of the easiest places to be for map completion right now as all of them are rotating in and out of T3/4 matchups due to there being 4 T2 servers.
I was there for over 2 hours, tyvm. My dinner was over an hour late as a result. My bad, I know, but just clarifying that I did and will continue to give this my best shot to complete. I still have no interest in WvW or PvP. I hate zerg-fests and that is all WvW is.

Incidentally, SoS has been matched up with a T3 and a T4 server this week. This means SoS will typically vastly outnumber the other servers at most periods of the day. This is a good week or map completion. Keep an eye on wvwintel.com to see which objectives you own.

I did it, but I also don’t see how much you can conclude from such a short survey. This seems lacking. I’m almost surprised this was signed off by your dissertation advisor.

I think the bigger question is: why did you feel the need to censor your skills? =P
If you’re looking for fights between large, organized groups, don’t look beyond T1 (JQ and TC have guilds running during this time, if you’re not willing to consider BG.) Most tiers below have nominal OCX coverage or have one server stacked much more than the others leading to zombie horde ktrains.
JQ has OCX/SEA guilds such as [KA] or [MERC] which are certainly worth consideration.
Please, just stop. It’s clear you don’t have a grasp of even the basics in WvW if you don’t know why these would be incredibly broken. Either learn how to read the map and navigate the terrain to avoid enemy zergs and/or equip skills which will allow you to escape from them, or just sit and wait at the waypoint or until the group gets closer.
Having reinforcements cut off from the group or facing the prospect of a long run across the map to support their team is an important element to the game mode.
Wait… there are actually people who care whether they “win” or “lose” in EoTM? Wow.
Just hop into real WvW (Eternal Battlegrounds or the Borderlands) and fight for your server. You’ll find lots of people who care there and a relatively balanced matchup, being T1. EoTM isn’t considered important or relevant by WvWers because, well, it isn’t. It’s just a champion farm/ktrain where people go to level their alts.
I resent the fact that EoTM access is provided on the WvW panel. I wonder how many new players decide to try out WvW and stumble into EoTM as their first experience of the game mode and form their opinions on WvW based on their experience there.

I understand all of your concerns on whether or not im even qualified to be called a “specialist”. So here are some of my stats that may help with those concerns.
Total hours: 2,500 WvW rank: 300 Total AP: 8,500 Total Kills: 5,700
The worrying thing is that you consider those stats to be sufficient to be defined as a ‘specialist.’ Your rank is disproportionately low compared with the number of hours you’re claiming you’ve put into the game. That means most of your in-game focus has likely been elsewhere and not in WvW. I mean, you’ve barely even maxed out Defense Against Guards and Guard Killer lines. It’s beginner-level. The community would have more faith in a person who was quite obviously heavily or exclusively WvW-focused rather than an obviously PvX player who hasn’t really ever participated in this community at all up until now, yet are now suppose to be this area’s ‘specialist’ despite your very first post in this forum proclaiming yourself as such.
Anyway I’m not really blaming you. Maybe, as others have said, you were one of the few who met the strict criteria and people more suited to the role may not have been able to. Just understand there are some people here who play GW2 purely for WvW and close to 100% of their time in-game is spent there. There are many issues with this game mode which require dev attention and hopefully you’ll be able to pick these up quickly from observing what the actual ‘specialists’ of this game mode are saying and relay it to the appropriate people.

Speaking personally, I’m loyal to my guild ahead of my server. It’s a game though. People should play where they’ll have the most fun. For some, that is remaining loyal to a server’s community. For others that is transferring around to switch things up to prevent fighting the same people/servers constantly, etc.
Strongly disagree about ele loot. I get tons of it; maybe 2nd only to my power necro. To utilize ele to its full potential, you need to make use of all 4 attunements at the appropriate times to ensure you’re applying CC pressure, damage and supporting your team during fights. To get best use from an elementalist, you certainly shouldn’t be camping water attunement… or any attunement for that matter. There’s no such thing as a “water ele.” You need to rotate attunements and synergize with other eles in your composition to ensure you’re in water when you need to be. This means, in theory, there will always a water field available when needed and none are wasted by more than one ele casting water on top of an existing one. I also echo the importance of being on voice comms and being able to use a mic for this role.

It’s a good point and one that needs to be addressed. That said, it comes as a surprise to no-one that DB has reached ‘full’ status. If anything, it confirms what everyone has known for awhile: you’re a ridiculously stacked server which doesn’t really accomplished a lot in comparison to the numbers you field. I’ve seen DB field T1-size blobs at times. They tend to be easy farms of mostly PvE fairweathers/casuals, though!

I personally run full zerk on staff and don’t have much of a problem. You just need good positioning and to make good use of your escapes.
In a 1v1 your zerker will get kitten d by any competent player. In a blob you can run even naked an survive.
Well, yeah. In general, people aren’t running staff for it’s 1v1 potential. :P
