By your own admission you’re a very casual PvPer. The Wintersday track could be completed in a day by someone who plays the game mode as their primary means of playing. It’d be like me complaining that I never finished all the PvE Wintersday achievements despite only playing PvE for 10 minutes every several days, then being surprised they were no longer available when the Wintersday event was over.

In general, you are correct about green being winners. I believe a level of randomization was added which sometimes kicks in though to prevent a server literally staying one color basically forever.
Meh. Factions was the worst expansion, imo, and Cantha was dull. I’d take Elona over Cantha.
A lot of people talk about Cantha because they’re probably just repeating what they’ve read other people post without really playing the original themselves. Most people I know who actually did play GW1 almost unanimously agree that Factions and Cantha sucked. It was a rushed mess and the landscape was repetitive, drab and boring. The Asian theme really didn’t fit into the game at all either.
Nightfall and Elona saved the game after the mistake that was Factions.
I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. Chests take, like, 0.5 seconds to load for me. Sounds like you have graphic lag or something.
WvW is about numbers. Mostly. There is a cut-off point where all the skill in the world will not compensate for the amount of numbers being thrown at you. When you see people simply rezzing their downed and not being able to do a thing about it, you’ve probably reached that point and should pick other fights.

The problem is, most are. Including this one. Players are not used to the prospect of failure in video games these days. Hell, people are not used to the prospect of failure in life; kids these days are given “final runner-up” medals when they finish last at school sports races and whatnot to shield them from having to admit the prospect of failure. Everyone’s a winner in today’s society, and darned if you hint otherwise.
The world, and gaming in particular, has fully embraced this celebration of mediocrity to the point that people feel something is wrong with the game if they can’t “win.”

Report them under the “Botting” category. Anet has said this is their preferred way to get reports like this.
Just transfer to a tier with servers that are relatively balanced. Your experience will be much better. Players serious about WvW have all pretty much consolidated to the T1 and T2 servers, on the NA side at least. Doing so will save you a whole lot of hassle, complaining and waiting for things to change on your server or Anet to facilitate changes which make things more balanced.
I love how mega blob servers keep saying that they are more serious or more skilled when it is simply untrue.
It’s just a matter of player concentration, that’s all. In the higher tiers, you have a higher amount of people who are focused heavily or exclusively on WvW compared to the lower ones. There’s a lot more going on literally 24/7 on these servers and the fights are sometimes non-stop. The players on these servers, for that reason, are much more likely to be more experienced than players who play on servers where there’s huge coverage gaps or a lower concentration of players generally.

Yeah, it’s amusing that FA/SoS seem to have people willing to fight in EU now too since we left. Oh well. I’m intending to put an alt. account on YB next time GW2 is on sale, personally. <3
In regards to armor setups, it’s actually easier to run glassier in T1 as a backliner, tbh. There’s so many people involved in zerg fights that it’s very hard to pressure correctly positioned backliners as you’d have to go through the entire group to get to them. Furthermore, everyone is so obsessed with pin sniping that backliners in T1 seem even less pressured as a result. In T2 and smaller scale guild fights, one mistake will get you killed pretty quickly by the counter-periphery teams. T2 fights have less margin for error, generally speaking.

Gotta be honest, I never saw the fascination with raising some arbitrary figure in a database which is meaningless. The whole concept of “AP hunting” seems quite strange to me. I play the content I enjoy for fun. The rest I don’t. Doing stuff you don’t enjoy just to increase some number or getting obsessed with logging in daily just to get +1 point etc. is just… odd. Why turn the game into a chore/job? lol.
My advice is just to forget about your AP, focus on playing the content you enjoy, ignoring the stuff you don’t and only logging in when you feel like it. You’ll probably get more enjoyment in the long run and won’t get burned out doing pointless stuff for a few extra, meaningless points or getting angry at ANet for adding some stupid achievement which takes ages and gives AP. If you find it a grind or don’t want to do it because it’s not enjoyable, just don’t do it. Just go do something you will enjoy or have fun doing. Games are meant to be fun. If you’re not having fun yet feel the need to obsess over grinding out some “achievement” for a few extra AP anyway, you’re doing something wrong imo.

T1 NA.
I think it has less of an impact here than in lower tier servers as we tend to have a large number of scouts available at all times. Furthermore, it’s easy to tell if a keep is contested if it’s waypointed so the removal of swords in cases like that don’t really make a difference (although makes waypoint upgrades even more crucial than before.)
Overall it’s harder for people to hold and upgrade towers due to this change, though. I see a higher ratio of our stuff, as well as enemy structures, being kept paper as a result.
It has made small PPT-centric havoc teams more viable, since they can capture towers without being noticed in some cases which is probably even more true in lower tiers.
Overall it’s not an absolutely terrible change from my POV. This is particularly true since structures matter less now that we have a PPK option in place too; often the structures are just focal points for PPK battles to occur. I can see how it would be more annoying in lower tiers, though.
Long nameplates are useful for seeing that “Tarnished Coast Bronze Footman” trying to hide behind a tiny tree and thinking he’s doing a good job at being stealthy whilst his huge nameplate sticks out at either side. <3

Having moved to JQ recently from T2 YB with my guild, there are definitely downsides to going to T1. I was never that big of a fan of huge blob battles and preferred 15s and 20s, but T1 servers definitely run fat. The bags are glorious, of course, but when you’re running with numbers that big fights essentially boil down to standing off each other and trying to bait the other into wasting their CDs. Melee can’t really push in without eating about 50 necro wells and melting instantly, so there’s a lot of standing around staring at each other, fake pushing, etc.
I have to say I seriously miss T2 reset night as T1 reset basically comprised of fights like the above, repairing walls/gates and queuing. It wasn’t half as fun as T2. Good luck running in 10-15 person groups if that’s all you have on in your guild at the time, you pretty much stand no chance whenever the blob shows up. You either blob up yourself or get farmed by 60 people spamming 1. GG.
Having said that, JQ community seems cool and the quality of PUGs/militia in T1 seems to be much higher than lower tiers, probably because they’re very used to this style of play. There’s also action pretty much 24/7 so there’s always something going on. Running around PvDing outside of NA hours in lower tiers or finding out there was just nothing at all going on was never that fun, although it was nice to be able to roam or run with a smaller group and still be able accomplish things; something which is exceedingly difficult to do in T1 due to the sheer number of people running around in blobs.
I’m hoping T1 will grow on me after I’ve been here for awhile. I definitely can see it isn’t for everyone, though. I’ll definitely be investing in an alt account next time GW2 is on sale to put on a lower tier server.
I agree. It’s sad I’m more rewarded in EoTM than WvW, or pretty much anywhere else for that matter.
Taking swipes at guilds in recruitment posts is just poor form. I think that’s what he was trying to say. And I agree with him. It’s not really a good advertisement for your community.

Report them for “Botting.” That is the preferred way for them to receive reports about people using such exploits.
I don’t know your situation as I’m from NA servers. I would start with trying to get what you have semi-organized first. Ensure you have a community website for your server. Get and promote a dedicated TeamSpeak/other VoIP for it too and use it when in WvW. Take the initiative and pin up when in WvW and find others who are willing to do so as well, join your TS and take players around. Promote good WvW information via your community site, write guides, direct people to meta builds, all that stuff.
I’d wager a lot of people on lower-ranked servers hop in to WvW, notice there’s no commander and nothing seemingly going on and leave again. If you could encourage people to stick around for awhile more people would check it out from the PvE area organically. Even if all you can do with your force is flip a few camps and perhaps hop BLs to ninja a tower or two it would be a positive experience for those joining.
I’ve not really said anything revolutionary here. My point is to work with that you have though and not really worry too much about wider coverage, etc. Maybe just focus on a certain timeslot (6pm-8pm or something) where you or your guild get together to do WvW and encourage others to tag along and get things done. When those events are successful, focus on branching out a little.
It’s probably really hard and time consuming to get some serious momentum going. But you’d be surprised by what one person can do if they’re dedicated to the task. If people step up to lead, the flock will follow and grow. My impression of lower tier servers is that they lack these leader-types who are willing or able to invest the time to build the initial momentum needed to start something bigger. Having the fundamentals in place will give you a solid foundation to expand from in time.

You can already pay a ‘sub’ if so inclined. Buy 800 gems on the 1st of every month. There you go. You’ve just paid about the equivalent of other MMO’s sub fees.
They are not blast finishers. They are projectile finishers. No-one is gonna equip a Birthday Blaster just to perform a projectile finisher unless they’re trolling. Their competitive use in WvW, or anywhere, in terms of just the finisher is zero.
The Fastcar dude is a known troll on YB and no-one takes him seriously. He’s widely known to post on alt accounts/have shill accounts post threads like this purely to get people talking about him or his guild of, like, 3 people. He then “brags” about how good he is and how many people are complaining/talking about him when in reality it’s just him talking about himself or shill accounts as no-one else cares since he’s irrelevant. He must be really insecure or something, lol. He makes up all kinds of nonsense. Most people on YB just laugh/pity him as he’s been doing this for years.

I run mostly zerk stuff and I play staff 95% of the time. As a ele, most of your damage mitigation should be coming from your positioning and skillful use of cantrips rather than your armor. I provide support and my meteor showers hurt too. I’m usually one of the last to go down in a wipe situation.
If you’re new to ele, gearing a little tanky isn’t a bad thing. After you’ve been playing awhile and are skilled in group combat situations and positioning comes second nature you’ll naturally feel yourself wanting to switch to more zerk stuff to do more damage.
As to the guy who said “don’t bring zerk eles to my zerg” I can only imagine you’ve not played with skilled elementalists. PvE PUGs running their zerker gear will die in 2 seconds flat. A skilled WvW group fighter or GvGer in zerk gear, particularly with a skilled guild composition protecting them, is a different story entirely.

Gear grind games are annoying. If you want to hop on a continuous, never-ending gear treadmill then go play WoW where the hours you spend getting gear are wiped out with every patch/new raid instance where you hop back on the treadmill and grind some more.
To me, competitive play is the end-game in GW2 much like it was in GW1. You compete with other players in WvW or PvP knowing you have equal stats and that there’s no huge gear difference between those involved so no-one will get steamrolled over in 1 second because of that.

No. The bridge doesn’t appear at QL at all now I don’t think. They fixed it.
Each and every one of them has their own situational uses which make them powerful when those situations crop up.
Ballis are a great counter to enemy siege.
I use a Logitech G600. It’s a 12-button mouse with the ability to switch mappings easily between separate profiles, have custom binds on a per-game basis and the ability to run Lua script macros too. Highly recommended.
I just want them to make the darn things actually achievable without having to spend a decade working on them.
GW2 is fine. This isn’t WoW, which is a good thing.
Endless gear treadmills suck and so do dungeons where it’s impossible to die even as a completely new player with no idea what’s going on.
The upscale/downscale stuff is something that GW2 gets right. Games like WoW are very good at making entire swathes of their content obsolete and not even remotely challenging for high level players with every gear/level upgrade they get. It’s a pity really. You can’t really enjoy the years of past content WoW has to offer as they were intended to be played. You can solo raid instances which previously took a full raid group composition to kill to farm for mounts and stuff, but it’s a shame these once epic zones were reduced to niche solo farms, imo.
Hopefully GW2 never becomes like that.
I am predominantly a WvW player. Try doing nothing other than that for a month several hours a day. You’ll know what being unrewarded feels like.
I’d echo the point about joining a WvW-focused guild. From there, you will have guild runs with co-ordinated groups and, hopefully, experienced commanders driving them. You’ll also almost certainly be required to join TeamSpeak or the guild/server’s voice communication platform of choice. This will allow you to hear the commander which will improve your play and understanding enormously.
