One thing that might help you get this is to go into an area with multiple mobs packed in a small space that won’t overwhelm you. A good potential example is the grubs in the Troll cave in Queensdale. If you aggro several of them with area damage, as you move around in the group, dodge on one. You might not dodge right for that one, but you are more likely to evade attacks from the rest since they’re not all attacking at the exact same time.

Probably the same way the guineas have survived. The quaggans have assistance from the other races. Guineas are the most suicidally stupid animals known to man, and yet they survive and thrive by virtue of laying enough eggs to keep the population up and having people that tend to them enough to keep the death toll down.

Refining counts. Since another part of the daily is to harvest, you might as well just refine some of what you harvested and sell to vendor or on the TP when you’re done if you don’t want to actually craft with it. It’s the fastest part of the new daily I can see…

A thief with pistol off hand or a necromancer with trident underwater can confirm combos on no-health mobs. Necromancer trident 3 is a combo field and finisher (combos with itself). There are fish in the lake near Claypool in Queensdale that this should work on. Thief pistol 5 is a combo field and finisher as well. Same deal… use it on rabbits/raccoons/etc.

Does the combo kill count if you use a combo to kill the no-health creatures? (rabbits, raccoons, etc)

If so, you could lay down your field an shoot through it to kill that rabbit for your combo. Might make this a bit faster.

Am I the only one that understood this to mean that these “chests” would be the same kind of chests we receive our daily/monthly/story rewards from?

ie: not something you have to pick up from the ground but that’s attached to your UI.

In the first two beta weekend events, (unless I’m remembering wrong and it was just the first BWE) loot chests spawned on the ground occasionally. I’m not sure if this change is going to be like that (on the ground) or if it’s going to be like you describe (in the UI) I assume it will be on the ground, and you’ll still have to go physically loot the thing rather than just click your UI chest while running around.

As badly as I do at PvP centric gameplay, I’m strongly considering making an asuran thief with the legendary shortbow and naming it “Care Bear Stare.” Too bad the other servers couldn’t see my name, and it would be more of an inside joke to SBI alone…

To the Asura Elementalist that was trying to get the vista in the southeast of EB up on the crumbling wall structure… (either SoR or TC, just saw red and didn’t pay attention to which server you were on.)

Anyone on SBI want to take a mesmer and/or engineer under your wing? Engineer is 80, but I’ll get my mesmer to 80 in a couple of weeks if I focus on it. Mesmer is 64 or 65 as of lunchtime today. When it comes to PvP, consider me to be “bad.” But I’m willing to listen and learn. I’ve got 7 kids and a full time job in the CST time zone, but I’d love to actually be an asset when I hop into WvW even if it’s only for short periods at a time.

Haven’t posted on the forums in a while, but wanted to pop into this WvW thread to say I have very much enjoyed this match up. I’m on SBI. I popped into WvW a little off and on before, but this match up has been enough fun that I keep coming back. My PvP skills are very lacking, but I’ve managed to get lucky a few times. I even got my monthly WvW kill achievement for the first time ever. THANK YOU to SoR, TC, and of course, SBI for the fun. Hopefully I’ll get better and be able to contribute more.

Same here!! been on and of WvW while SBI is still on tier 1. But since SBI moved to tier 2, i felt a bit of responsibility to contribute for SBI. This match up is been really fun, so i decided to leave wow (for the time being) & spent most of my gaming time WvW-ing.

My first WvW experiences went something like this:
Enter EB => completely lost => wander around trying to find map points => ganked by random zergs.
Enter BL => completely lost => wander around trying to find map points => ganked by random zergs.

Eventually it became:
Enter EB or BL => mostly lost => wander around looking for a group to run with, because my solo skills have more sucking power than a black hole => either ganked by random zerg or find zerg to attach myself to and die a few times trying to help take points (squishy)

I’ve never been big on PvP type play. PvE is more my thing. I did want to go in and help my world, and I did have fun occasionally, but it just didn’t call to me because I always feel like I’m useless in there.

This match up, I went in to see what I could see since the borderland maps changed. I thought I would go in, do map unlock on the new color areas, maybe hitch a ride with a zerg and be done. I was wrong.

The first fight that hooked me for this match up was with a ranger that was taking the SW camp in our BL. I was just running there for the point of interest, but I saw it was just the one ranger and his pet, and he was trying to claim the camp solo, so I figured the NPCs might actually let me live longer than 3 seconds of engagement. I died a minimum of 4 times against that ranger in that spot that day. I felt like I actually put enough pressure on him to force him off the camp once, and that was what hooked me. One of the NPC guards ressed me the first time, and a small zerg came through and got me the next few.

I got frustrated after that when I was trying to run from the garrison to the eastern keep, because I was by myself and kept getting ganked on the way there. After three deaths trying to get to that one spot, I decided to rework my skills and between runspeed and stealth, I finally made it on my own. And then the keep started getting attacked, so I announced it on map to let folks who know what they’re doing know. I eventually ended up trying to fend off this one elementalist from the wall, and the second hook was that fight. We went back and forth a little throwing stuff at each other until I finally found a chance to hop down and knock him off a ledge with my greatsword, and finished him off.

I know those fights probably didn’t mean much to the folks I fought against, but for me it was the first REAL rush I’ve felt in WvW since launch.

There are only two uses for frames.

He/She wouldn’t have leftover cogs if he had been making minis you mean. If the OP is out of frames, he/she had to be crafting tonics, which goes against what the OP is saying about running out of cogs and not knowing about another use for the cogs besides minis. Either troll post or typos on the OP’s part.

OP never said they didn’t know about tonics. It is implied that OP used up the frames by making tonics, because that is the only other use for frames. OP is asking if there is another use for COGS, which is a different animal. Only use for cogs is minipets, to my knowledge.

There is a tree that is hard to get to near where the griffon nests are at. You may be overlooking this one. A guild mate and I did this achievement the other day, and that was the last one we destroyed … took us a few minutes to find it after everything else was crushed.

No clue on a special Wintersday mace skin, but I found a mace that looks like a bottle of whiskey and immediately bought it.

Was it called Moonshine? My new norn guardian is specifically a guardian so I can dual wield Moonshine with Courage and/or Ambrosia.

To answer the original poster on holiday themed skins … they have some in the shop for 500gems each. I saw skins for all weapons except the underwater ones, mace, scepter, focus, and rifle. They look like either gingerbread or some kind of wooden toy theme to me, but my eyes aren’t what they used to be so I could be wrong.

If you use the appropriate bag for storing your minis (and any other goodies you want to retain and not accidentally sell to vendors) this is not a problem.

I’d like one of those Ghastly Grinning Shield skins (from Halloween) that keeps creeping up in price.

I see. I hadn’t thought of the scavenger hunt as a “difficult combat challenge” but that makes sense. As for the other point. there will always be elitists in this kind of game, I hope that didn’t harm the overall popularity of the dungeon.

I tried to do it at <15 levels. Some parts were definitely difficult combat challenges – just regular mobs in Gendarren Fields oneshotted me.

In the beta weekend events, I got mystic keys as mob drops pretty frequently. Since launch, I haven’t seen a single black lion key drop from mobs. I’ve gotten every one of my keys as either map completion rewards, personal story rewards, or from opening black lion chests with keys obtained via one of the other two methods. I’ve seen a couple of people mention that they got a key from mob drops, but if that’s the case they are very lucky individuals (in my opinion.)

Define “or better” please. I can’t find a hierarchy for chests on the wiki. It would be nice to know where to go for a daily or every few days’ try at it.

I’ve never seen the Secrets in the Swamp event activate when I’ve been nearby. The Queensdale bandit events seem to spawn frequently (except the barricade the bridge event) including attack the farm (both the renown heart and the cow ranch farm), poison the water => kill toxic ooze (if previous event failed), blow up the pipes => fix the pipes, etc. The centaurs attack the garrison regularly, and the various caravan / escort events become available regularly. The harpies attack the dam, the giant wurm pops up, and the elder elementalist says hello every now and then. I’ve NOT seen the windmill attack or rogue bull since halloween, and I do my daily achievements almost exclusively in Queensdale each day. I really like the area, so I hang out there to get that done.

I believe during the beta weekends, there were a couple of stealth options for ranger, but I can’t remember what they were now.

I would like to see a check box similar to “show only available” that lets you filter by items usable by your profession. So for engineer, I could select weapons and check that box and only rifles, shields, and pistols would be displayed in my search results (for example.) For armor, only medium armor would be displayed, because engineers are adventurers.

Another search feature that would be nice is the ability to search for gear by what attributes it boosts (precision, power, healing power, etc.)

I also would have rather purchased them from the gem store. They can be bought with in game gold, if you have that kind of gold lying around, though. People are selling them so if you can afford them, go for it. I have a hard time earning gold in this game, so if they don’t all get bought up by the time I can get one, I might end up with one eventually.

I have to speak my 2 cents worth on this. For those that think that the chests are not worth it and think that it is just a sham to get more money; think about where ANet have themselves. They are giving us an extremely entertaining, fun and enjoyable gift that none of us has to pay for every month. We bought this game 1 time and then we can have all the game has to offer. Would you rather it be like a Subscription based game? Or would you like them to give items in the market to give an unfair advantage over another player. Everybody has to make money to survive, and that is just what they are doing. Those chests may not be 100% what you want them to be, but it’s not like they are forcing anybody to buy them. Whomever buy’s the chests are doing so from their own free will.

TLDR: Everybody needs to make money, and this is just one way ArenaNet has of doing so.

Since my oncall pager woke me up and I’ve been following this quietly for a while, here’s my middle-of-the-night possibly-grumpy-but-not-on-purpose response.

I will never pay for any item that relies on RNG from a gem store in this game or any other in an attempt to receive in game items I desire. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. At Halloween, I bought the witch’s outfit and two packages of minis (disposed of one to make the one from mystic forge.) I want to support Arenanet by buying from the gem store, but if they continue to put the good items from these events into RNG ONLY, they will be losing out on hype money from me.

Hype money being “money earned by sudden short time availability items focused on holiday or one time events.”

I refuse to pay a subscription fee for any game. It’s the principle of the thing. On the other hand, I’ve thrown more money into this game this year than anyone paying for a traditional MMO sub pay model already. I would have paid even more this month had the minis and/or armor/weapon skins been available as direct purchase from the gem store instead of “you MIGHT get what you desire by opening this chest that costs way too much to purchase.”

My wife sent me out to buy the CE prepurchase for my birthday gift. I’ve played in every beta weekend event and loved it. I bought 3 extra character slots worth of gems before launch so that I could have one of every profession AT launch. I suffer from what I like to call alt-itis. I like to play a little on every character every now and then rather than focusing on ONE character. My highest level is a level 60 engineer (yet another character slot I bought) that I created shortly before Halloween, and I’m proud that I’ve managed to stay mostly focused on it in the short time I’ve been playing it. I don’t a lot of in game gold. I sell almost every item I come across that I don’t need, salvage a few of the rest for upgrade components and crafting mats, and still have less than 10 gold in the bank total across all characters.

At halloween, the ONLY skin I desired was the Ghastly Grinning Shield. I bought the mini pack twice (once to sacrifice them for the mystic forge skeleton, and again for the other three to keep.) I also bought the witch’s outfit. If there had been a weapon skin pack, or if the skins had been available as individual items, I would have bought those, too. Instead, I used what keys I had to try for them and failed to get anything halloween related. I made Mad King Chests out of the stuff that I didn’t want from BLC and still got nothing but standard candy corn type fare. The Shield goes for 20+ gold in the BLTC. The chances for obtaining one by the time I have that kind of gold built up are pretty much nil and void, and I’ve given up on getting it. This is money Arenanet lost.

In total, I’ve paid the $160 for the CE pre-purchase, plus 2 packs of $35 worth of gems for 4 character slots, an extra bank tab, some minis, and a witch’s outfit. This makes $70 in post-launch sales (if you count the gems bought pre-launch as post launch since they couldn’t be used until then.) that’s more than 4 months worth of most subscription games, and it’s less than I WOULD have spent if the gem store had been handled differently. I refuse to pay subscription fees on principle. It’s the psychology of it that has me spending more than I would have. I’m okay with that.

Arenanet should really re-think the gem store RNG situation, though. A lot of folks seem to be irritated by this.

TL;DR
I won’t pay sub, I hate real money RNG rewards, and gem store needs a rethink.
And I’m grumpy from being on call.

If you don’t want to PvP, then don’t do the PvP content. Unless the completionist in you is urging you to fill out the achievements you’re missing, or to get full map completion, etc … you never need to PvP unless that play style just appeals to you.

I can tell you that I’m not big on PvP. I’ve never really enjoyed it in any other game I’ve played, but WvW can get exciting at times. You might discover that it’s more fun than you think if you give it a try.

There are lots of things to do. A great place to start is to check your Achievements tab on your hero panel. You could do jump puzzles, map completion (if you haven’t completed 100% already) or possibly even try taking a random person under your wing and helping them with stuff they’re having issues with in the lower level areas… just ask if anyone needs help in map chat. Lots of ideas, just have to think of them, is all.

I would like to see this jumping puzzle return next Halloween. I never really got much time with it, but I’d love to add it to my list of accomplishments in the game The puzzle is fine. Thank you for the effort and detail you put into it!

At least you got a skin. There are some folks that did not. No way to make the MKC after Halloween is over, so have to wait until next year to see if they bring the same skins back or not. All in all, it was a good holiday event, and congratulations to the folks that got lucky!

Are they doing this to grief, or are they trying to truly be helpful by granting speed buffs they think you might need? I saw another thread on here that mentions “passive speed buffs” are helpful, and not all characters get those… maybe it was someone trying to help if they cast it on a profession they think is too slow?

It’s not just you. Chainsaw is smaller than the other three mini pets. I still think he looks cool, but I think the ghost is the best mini of this event!

“Christmas” in Tyria is called Wintersday. It’s a big event in GW1, so I would be very surprised to not see it return in GW2.

I know that a similar question was answered in this post:

But I believe that answer is directed at a question about the recipes that produce armor/weapon type items in particular, and does not answer the question of whether MKC will continue to be craftable after the event. Can someone from ArenaNet please give an official response on this?

How do you get the keys? Is there a way other then buying them?

Keys are sometimes given as a reward (rare) from map completion. They are also given as a reward for certain stages of your personal story. I haven’t seen keys drop off of mobs or be obtained in any other non-gem-store related way than the two I just mentioned since launch, but they used to drop off of mobs (very rare) in the betas.

This doesn’t answer my question of whether the MKC will still be craftable, though… since those were created after that stream was made. Hopefully someone will reply on that soon.
