After opening 38 Mystery Boxes, I got my first mini (Infinirarium). It took 32 additional Mystery Boxes to get 2 more minis (both Snowmen).
Therefore it cost me $70 to get 3 minis, which I turned into Foostivoo the Merry. I brought him out and watched him, and watched him, and he just sits there like a lump. Does he ever animate?
Now I just feel icky and ashamed for spending so much real money, betting against the long odds to get minis at all. I love GW2, but that really took all the cheer out of the holiday event for me. I can’t even bring myself to run the events.
Could someone please explain to me how I access the various cities’ instances from Lion’s Arch? I haven’t done any of these yet, but know that access has changed today.
“10am PST, 12/20—Lion’s Arch
Don’t worry if you miss one of the stops. Once Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch, you can play any day’s version of the airship instance you’d like!”
Once Tixx is in Lion’s Arch where do we access the various airship instances? From him in LA, or in the individual cities?
Thanks, Mkalafut. That’s reassuring that I might get them from world drops (though I got only one for 40 boxes). I’m glad I might not need to spend more than I’m really willing to.
Wolfey, you got minis from world drops? “Not released yet” — more Winterday minis are coming?
I’m usually a cheerleader for GW2, but I’m extremely disappointed that I spent $40 just hoping for minis — I got only one, after $38 had already been spent. There should be some other way to get them! It’s not like I wasn’t willing to pay!
The boxes also gave me a valuable weapon skin I don’t need. While I could sell it, I can’t buy a Wintersday mini with that gold.
I should probably collect common dyes first, and as I hopefully get richer at higher levels, move up to uncommon and rares. I, too, have had terrible luck with the mystic forge.
Useless to convert gems to gold with the 30% tax.
Wait, what? I don’t know about this! Please explain?
I’d be buying gems with real money.

Buy gems to convert to gold, or buy gems to buy dye packs?
Sorry, but that’s not a very helpful response. If I were a power trader I wouldn’t be asking this question.
I still need a lot more dyes. In the current market is it cheaper and more effective to buy gold with gems, then purchase all the dyes from the TP – or – buy the dye pack bundles with gems, and possibly combine unwanted dyes in the Mystic Forge in hopes of rares?
“Increased chance to get Mini boosters and Dye Pack boosters from the Black Lion Chest.”
Does anyone know what these boosters do? I’ve never heard of them.
Can’t log in and buy gems!
The competition for space in my bank limits how many skins and costumes I can buy, and believe me, ANet, I want to buy them! At the very least, please let us store a full costume in a single bank slot.
Additionally, where can I find a characterization of the various server populations? Isn’t there a place which shows ratios of pve, pvp, and wvw activities? Or server reputations among players? Or special interest communities, such as RPers on Tarnished Coast? I’m looking for some sort of list, but not finding anything current.
I’m on Jade Quarry and I love leveling alts. But it’s so lonely playing with only a rare presence of other players. We miss out on lots of event content and it’s harder to make friends and play with others. I remember from beta that ArenaNet wanted to encourage the social nature of the game, but I have to wonder on what servers are all my fellow altoholics! ArenaNet has created such an alive world! It’s sad to see so much of it ignored or rushed through. It’s even more dead in the Norn areas, with so much open space and fewer players choosing the magnificent Norn race.
But I’m hoping it’s not this way on all servers. I think Jade Quarry attracts WvW players, and this accounts for the empty leveling zones, but I want to be on a highly active PvE leveling server. Which servers are full of altoholics?
I’m wondering the same thing. I’m not seeing people’s +1 score displayed with their names or comments.
I’m glad to see someone taking an interest in this one. In that quest we’re instructed to keep the NPC alive, but in the first location the mortar circles are so close together that there is no safe way to resurrect him. My ranger got stuck at this point, just trying to stay alive, assuming I had to get the NPC up before moving forward. I got wave after wave of mobs and mortars indefinitely. I posted on forums about it, and eventually got the advice to move on to the bridge. By this time I was 10-15 levels higher and could complete it. I’m not even sure if he lived to do the ritual.
For the nosy inquisitive: I don’t unlock dyes on a character until I play her enough to be committed to her, so I save lots of dyes. I also save armor with skins I like while leveling (like personal story unique skins.) I’m playing multiple characters, so stuff adds up.
The problem with having a mule for storage is the cost of bags. By the time you equip a mule or two it seems like it would be more expensive than buying a second account and expanding storage there too.
What’s the limit of character slots?
Each character adds to storage needs, so too many characters on one account, even with all the bank slots, strains the storage limit.
I’ve searched unsuccessfully to find out what’s the best way to register a second account. Is it best to link it to the first account somehow?
Are we going to get to continue playing brawls with our costumes after the Halloween events end?
Am I correct in understanding that Cleansing Flame does not inflict burning, and so does not do condition damage?
This guide is just what I was looking for, as I’m starting a new guardian. I love that you commented on specific synergies and favorite (and least favorite) aspects of the various elements, which helped me choose a weapon setup and will help me with other decisions down the line. Thank you so much!
Can I just wander around in Queensdale and participate in Priory events, or do I have to complete the first act first? My character is too low to complete Act One.
You can add a pirate hat to lots of outfits and have a piratey flair. This is the Krytan armor skin (minus the head and shoulders) from the gem store.
It’s a weapon? Doesn’t sound like one.
Used the Etherial scan several times, no luck.
What does he mean by specifying the player’s “core skill bar.” As opposed to what?
I hadn’t noticed those arrows, thanks for mentioning it.
I’m always interested in ArenaNet comments in the forum (in addition to community comments too, of course.) Sometimes threads are a dozen pages, so it takes a long time to skim through them all to find the ANet comment. If the ArenaNet symbol next to the thread title linked directly to the first ANet post, it would be more user-friendly.
And yet forums are full of people complaining that medium armor is only pirate style…
My mesmer is only 13 so has no traits yet. I use staff a lot, Phase Retreat often.
When I’m fighting more than one mob at once I’ve noticed that sometimes an illusion sticks around after the mob I’m targeting dies, and continues to fight the other mobs. I thought illusions die when the target dies. Does this have something to do with my using AoE skills?
Thanks Mog. I must have been looking at an earlier version of your build, maybe from an older quoted post. I’m having a great time playing this, the past couple hours. And I’m newly converted to devourer pets!
posted by MogBuild I run for WvW and Leveling, can be used for sPvP with some slight adjustments.

Condition Based Trap build
Summary: High survival condition based build built around traps for CC and AoE Condition damage. This build offers good mobility with Warhorn and has lots of CC potential for kiting melee and staying at range. It also makes you a lot tougher and offers great sustained condition damage.
Weapons: Shortbow & Axe/Horn
Underwater: Preferred is Speargun
Shortbow is the better 1200 ranged weapon for applying conditions and it has good CC. Axe has a bleed and CC, paired with Horn for mobility and buffs. Sword would be okay if and when A.Net fixes the #1 skill or you could use it now if you want a melee weapon equipped. You could also use Torch (for burning) if you don’t care for the mobility offered by Horn. Speargun will be your preferred underwater weapon because of the conditions it applies.
Pets: I use Lashtail and Whiptail Devourers for several reasons. They are ranged, they have a knockback, they apply conditions and they are tanky so they tend to stay alive longer then spiders. In sPvP I would use Spiders because they do more damage and pets do not die as much as in WvW or PvE.
Healing: I use healing spring because of the group regen, combo field, condition removal and it has good synergy with the Adept traits I choose in Nature Magic.
Utility Skills: As this is a trap build you will use all traps. Traps I use are Viper’s Nest for the Poison, Spike Trap for bleed/cripple, Frost Trap for the chill. I prefer Viper’s Nest over Flame Trap because of the -33% healing effectiveness. In sPvP you should swap out Frost Trap for a Stun Break of choice.
Elite Skill: I use Rampage as One in WvW for the Stability/Swiftness. It is just way to useful to help get thru zergs into a keep or to run when you need to run. Leveling I use Entagle for the CC on packs of mobs and damage. In sPvP you could use either or depending on if you want more survival or damage.
Runes: Use what you like.
Sigils: Use any of the Malice Sigils. Your choice on what you want more damage, more toughness, more vitality or more condition duration.
Accessories: Rabid
I invite a response from Mog or anyone else with experience in a trap-based build:
I just re-specced to use this build, but just realized you didn’t take the trait for ground-targeted traps. I always thought that would be critical for a trap-based build. Do you prefer to play without that? I’d be interested in knowing your reasoning. Thanks for the great build.

I agree wholeheartedly, but this post belongs here, if you want it to be seen by the right people: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestions-Sub-Forum-Open
This is still bugged. The broodmother and hatchlings are green and won’t engage in combat. Killing the nearby grubs and Veterans didn’t make a difference.
Same here, and can’t buy karma items while it’s stuck. Jade Quarry server.
This makes me ridiculously happy!
My character is a Norn ranger, chose the Priory just before this level 30 personal quest, and was level 35 when attempting it.
Eir and the Priory NPC died right at the beginning, followed by at least 10-15 minutes of waves of mobs. The mortars overlapped so consecutively that there was no safe space and no way to rez the NPCs. When events seemed not to progress, eventually I turned my back on the mobs and mortars and NPCs and just ran toward the bridge, where I was greeted by approximately 30 more mobs and Vyacheslav. I ran through all the mobs and jumped on a boulder, trying to kill the boss, but didn’t survive.
It seems as though the quest shouldn’t have continued to churn out wave after wave of mobs in the first location, at least not to this extent. Something was definitely wrong with it. My ranger is level 45 now and I have not returned to this quest or my personal story since.
I have seen numerous complaints about the inability to complete this quest on other forums, so I know I’m not the only person with this problem.

Please add material type in a dye’s tooltips. For example, some dyes intended for metallic use don’t look very good on other materials. We should be able to see this info before soulbinding the dye to a character. Checking the wiki for this info on every single dye considered in the Trading Post is just too much work.
I can’t tell if it’s their intention to display screenshots of the various items. So far that site appears to display data, not screenshots.
Is anyone compiling a gallery of crafted armor and weapons screenshots? If I knew what a particular craft could make, I might be more likely to invest time and money into crafting. Similarly, this would be good for crafters looking to make money selling attractive items.
Where can I view all my purchases from the Gem Store? We are shown “Recent Purchases”, but I need to see a history of everything I purchased with gems.

I was under the impression that the machine keeps cranking out more mobs until it’s silenced, which is why the supply of mobs just never quit. If that’s not the case, then rezzing and tackling the remainders would be helpful.
Can anyone suggest a strategy for completing this quest? I was bogged down in mobs and overlapping mortar circles and 2 dead npc helpers, for 20 minutes before I finally ran to the bridge to find another 20 mobs and a boss there. Impossible.
Am I missing something I should be doing?
Along the same lines, the “Juvenile” should be removed from the default pet name once a pet is tamed. It causes a lot of confusion when players see it and try to charm a pet which actually belongs to a ranger already.
