The sad thing is that with nearly 200 posts in such a short period of time, mostly negative, ANet will prob take no action.
I’m not even sure if they should take action. I mean, if they do. . . all it means is every time they do something the forum will flood with complaints until it reverts.
that is true but do you really want to play this game where you cant do your personal quest when you want, or you cant unlock your last weapon ability underwater till your level 23?
And why do you think I ditched FF14? Aside from it being a grindy piece of . . .
Though on the other side of things, seeing people in “Players helping players” who were having trouble due to being underleveled going into their Personal Story bits (especially against Doc Howler, for instance) . . .
I dunno. I’m really of two minds on a lot of stuff. Something did have to be tweaked, but I don’t know if it needed to happen to this extent . . . or at least needed to happen for already active accounts.
Take for example the ascended armor collection: people aren’t making ascended armor to get the achievement reward, they’re making the armor to wear – the achievement reward is just icing on that particular cake.
I’m not doing it for the collection? Huh.
Same can be said about pretty much every other collection reward, with the exception of Junk Collector.
I’m just doing that so I can be one step to being King Skritt.
At the risk of sounding rude, but if you really are spending the time, gold, and effort to make three sets of ascended armor just for the achievement (and promptly throwing the armor away because you see no value in them), then you would make an excellent King Skritt
I’m not. I just am kidding – I am not even really interested in finishing my Medium Ascended Armor except at the pace of “sometime before the game shuts down”.
I would give them a C+ on the collections execution. Needs work, the idea you need to discover them was nice . . . tying them to randomized drops to unlock them? Not so nice.
Would like to see it do more than just exist though.
I’m just finally going to sit back and remember it can be pretty tough to do tutorials properly without letting them feel insultingly forced or nagging reminder “would you like to view the tutorial?”

For what it’s worth, I won’t let her play all aspects of the game, and she’s not allow map chat or to speak to anyone.
This is probably for the best.
All the rest? Awesome. Reminds me of “Millicent Ramsey” . . .
So for this update, I’ll give A-Net a solid 7/10, and a thumbs up.
I’m more inclined to give it “6/10, would download again”.
Not only that, but they espoused how exploration was another keystone of the game and now they have taken that out and put the player on training wheels.
Strange they added Collections, which pretty much rewards both exploration and memory . . . for some.
There are more collections than what you see or what Dulfy is currently reporting. There is one unlocked from a drop at the Claw of Jormag fight, for instance. No idea what collection, though.
I think this is the collection where you need to get all the elementalist conjured weapons: volcanus, mjölnir, wintersbite and winterbark (one of those bows drop from Jormag). Again, very expensive weapons, no idea what the reward is though.
I don’t think anyone does yet, honestly. Still waiting to see what “Spirit Backpack” is . . .
That’d be interesting, seeing how a real new person goes.
Problem is, trying to get someone to play who isn’t particularly interested.
. . . I may need to call in favors I was saving in case of something more major. Like winding up in jail.
I just got it! Not saying how or why but its been done lol
. . . was it full inventory?
Is there a way to contact arenanet about this update so we can tell them are thoughts and hopefully maybe get them to change some of these ridiculous features?
Don’t expect changes to be inserted until next month, though. After they turn on the annual Mad King’s romp.
I have a 29 character that has one sp to get in Wayfarer for map completion and can’t get it. And its the kitten one in the ice worm cave. Its either bugged or he has to get up to some other level to finish the map off.
Isn’t that the one you have to find the keg, get a mug, and drink it?
Yep. Easy as. Not happening for me. I’ve been trying at different levels for a few hours now and there’s no ale mug for me. Sending my Norn dry!
Wow. I think it’s in the west arm of the caverns at the back and it’s difficult to get to during the event where you collect eggs. If you still can’t get it later let me know, I’ll fire up someone who needs it and go there with you.
I can get in and interact with the wagon or whatever it is but it just lets me know that someone is brewing ale, or something. I’ve got my guildie coming on soonish so I’ll try it grouped with him.
Check your inventory.
I understand there’s some charr vendor in Lion’s Arch somewhere who sells apples. You might go look for him sometime. Though it might be finding the unfindable.
No, he’s just part of the level 30 personal story, named “Meeting my Mentor”. He doesn’t actually sell apples, and you have to be inside the personal story instance to see/interact with him. He’s just supposed to be an “undercover” Priory agent who’s cover is selling apples — that he doesn’t actually sell.
The joke

Your head
Shh, don’t explain the inexplicable.
The standard complaints about this game usually involve the open world being way too easy. It’s much easier with everything unlocked. But you can still pretty much 1 your way through everything if that’s what you want to do and you know how to kite.
Breaking News: All weapon skill get removed to make the game more challenging!
Seriously, that’s a stupid answer. Making the game more challenging by cutting the ability of the player to react properly to certain situations?I love how people take one paragraph out of a whole respond and then try to claim the answer is stupid. Totally out of context.
I’m not saying it’s better because it’s more challenging. I’m saying that the complaints about it being harder are quite silly to me. At least to me it wasn’t much harder at all. It’s all the other stuff that makes the change good for me.
I wish people would see the forest instead of the leaves sometimes.
Remind me to poke a friend who isn’t still sore about City of Heroes about starting up a new account and I’ll have to run an experiment how long before they decide to crawl back to WoW.
So… the CDI didn’t happen?
For a thread called “communicating with you”, a notice of it not happening would be a responsible step towards said communication.
I get that it must be pandemonium but if I have learned nothing else as a professional, I know that when you can’t commit to an appointment, you give notice of the change in plans, even if you can’t explain. This is pretty basic and critical to trustworthiness…
Given how few people seem to have any trust in them anyway, I really wish they’d go back to “we think the CDIs would be a waste of resources” line and stick to it.

The locking mechanism is locking the visuals so new players see less, like nodes on the map as an example. But you can still farm wood when you see it. It’s just giving people time to learn what various markers mean as they play.
Respectfully tho, how hard is it to walk up to the symbol on the map and go “oh, I can mine this”……..
I dunno, FF14 has the trouble of not letting me do it until I hit level 10 and then switch classes to “walking target for anything hostile”
I am a bit surprised that more people aren’t upset about the poor rewards.
Exotic Hunter Collection
Reward: 10 AP, Karmic Converter (Double-Click to trade karma for something useful. Can only buy one item per day. Allow you to buy items such as Bag of Empyeal Fragments, Rune Bag, or 5 Obsidian Shards for 4998 karma).
Unlock 34 named exotic weapon skins from champion boxes into your wardrobe
Hero of the People Collection
Collect and open all five tiers (Basic, Fine, Masterwork, Rare, Exoitc) of the Centaur, Flame Legion, Svanir, Nightmare Court, and Inquest Champion loot bags
Reward: Champion Slayer’s Chest (contains Obsidian Shards, Dragonite Ore, Empyreal Fragments, and a unique exotic weapon from champion loot bags)
. . . yup, the rewards sure are crap and not worth it.

They trashed alot of topics a couple of hours ago. Forum was full of complaints.
Some where troll complaints, some where serious, constructive complains.Better to ignore all the flaws in your game than to actually admit and adress them.
Forum was full of repetitive, redundant complaints you mean. The moderators pruned a lot of repeating topics because that’s what they’re supposed to be doing – keeping it free of junk like the old “SAB OR RIOT” spam which filled front pages for at least three hours until they got it under control.
Of course, most people would rather believe there’s dark and nefarious reasons. You know, other than the simpler one.
Probably not the points themselves so much but the running around and doing the collecting.
Much like the game proceeding it, once you hit the end of the story and didn’t want to enter PvP or such? Yeah, that’s all there was left. Find the Elite Skills, cartography (heh), vanquishing, or getting the Hall of Monuments filled with shinies.
I’ll need to wait to see about the change to new characters once I actually have a new character to toy around with. Until then . . .
Still looking for Jar of Lost Souls for less than 30 gold.
5. skill points in starter areas that you cant access
Stupid yes, but it break nothing. Did people really need those skill point right away?
Map completion.
Yes, but I know my first time many of those skill points I’d not been able to complete. And I routinely would run into people in Queensdale trying to do the bandit skill point and getting their clocks cleaned.
I understand there’s some charr vendor in Lion’s Arch somewhere who sells apples. You might go look for him sometime. Though it might be finding the unfindable.
Also, still amused that it seems nobody caught my reference earlier . . .
finding nemo?
Shark bait! OOOHAHA!!
Nope.
Also, still amused that it seems nobody caught my reference earlier . . .
Oh, you were referencing something?
I thought you were just voicing our honest thoughts
Might as well spill it.
Jeff Grubb wrote a book “Curse of the Azure Bonds” . . . which had a character named “Dragonbait” in it. A supporting protagonist to the main character, and actually had more than enough going for him that the name wasn’t about his uselessness . . .
I should dig that book out and re-read it. The story of Alias of the Azure Bonds really was interesting to keep in mind.
pdavis:
Are you sure about the “gathering locked until Level X”? I’ve heard reports that is not locked any more than it was (requiring certain levels for certain tools). Similar to salvaging not being “locked”.
Is there a single person who likes unlocking traits?
I like the concept. I don’t know about the execution yet . . . not experienced it.
Maybe instead of stripping features for new players and using them as rewards, you could maybe ADD ACTUAL NEW REWARDS. You know, maybe you guys should get some players to be advisors, that way maybe you’ll realize when something is a terrible idea.
Good point…
Not really a good point, because that just begs to lead those players to temptation . . . and those chosen could easily become targets of all the derision (even if left anonymous). Not to mention there’s already talk on map chat about how anyone who likes the new changes are (nope, not repeating it here, just think of young felines) or “company men”.
Also, recall what happened with Edge of the Mists which was vetted and used by WvW players? Yeah . . . I don’t trust players could reliably make the decisions which are best for the game as a whole. Maybe for small parts, or maybe for what they see in front of them.
I do not trust the inmates to run the asylum.
The many objections that players have against this feature pack and Anet’s response to those issues in the weeks to come will show us how well they are listening. I’ll give Mike’s sincerity the benefit of the doubt, but ultimately as a developer Anet can only speak with its patch notes and has to deliver on its promises there. The players have certainly spoken, now let’s see that listening happen.
Yeah, this is the first big patch since everything really hit the fan a few weeks back. How they respond now is going to say a whole lot about the kind of sensitivity they have the to community’s expectations.
I wouldn’t get hopes up they’ll reverse direction on the entirety of the Feature Pack. They put enough time and effort into this to offer it up proudly and without chagrin, so I expect they have an attachment to doing these changes.
If I were you, I’d expect them saying often “we are listening to all feedback” without any particular notices . . . the most I could see them doing is perhaps retooling the “New Player Experience” bits just before Thanksgiving.
Mostly because Halloween and Wintersday both have large events for them which aren’t Living Story related and are probably lighter on effort than LS.
2nd shelf next to the peanut butter.
That’s not the Jar of Lost Souls, that’s the Jar of Lost Change.
. . . and someone raided it already.
I love this update too. Finally a reason to buy spoons I’ll never use.
. . . now where the heck is that Jar of Lost Souls. ..
Nobody seems to know where to get this other than on the Trading Post. So before I go pay 40 gold for it . . . is there anyone out there who knows where exactly you get it?
Well, this is game is about preparing to have fun.
I wasn’t aware people were allowed to enjoy the game anymore. Seems if you enjoy it you’re either a white knight or a secret employee
Who would have known that people who’d been playing for over a year would care so much about the 1-10 levelling experience?
…Oh I see.
It’s key farming, right?
No, they just wanted to see what the fuss was about over the changes. And since it’s for newer players instead of veterans . . . they know all the stuff already, they know how to work with everything and there’s no option to turn it off.
It’s also possibly people starting new characters now rather than earlier because “meh, why not?” . . . and now are just not happy with the change vs when they started the game.
Personally? I think it should be something which DOES NOT trigger if the account is older than Sept 2014, or at least if they already have a Level 20 character.
i am a gamer and you do not speak for me
And kitten long there are players like you whom are content with mediocrity, this game will continue to go in the direction that it has been in the last 2 years.
Of course I’m content with mediocrity. It keeps me entertained. I’d feel better if they could do something amazing . . . but those who aim for the stars and miss tend to hit the ground very hard.
And so I continue to play, fairly casually now and then when time allows. If something better comes along then I’ll go there for a time.
I know they’re employees since there’s no other way players with a real life would take their time to defend a game so much without being paid.
This is news to me, so all I have to do to get a paycheck is defend the game like Vayne does?
. . . why haven’t I been getting paid?!
You didn’t understand. They’re defending it because they’re getting a paycheck, not the other way around. I’m afraid you’re just a fan.
I’m afraid you are the one who didn’t understand, neighbor. Back to Remedial Sarcasm 101 for you.
Guild Wars 2 is always dying, it’s just a matter of how fast it is going down.
Nothing lasts forever, and everything dies – albeit sometimes it’s slow.
I’m amazed some people are still convinced they don’t play at all. They do, it’s been noticed . . . they have “public” accounts which are known to be Devs, and private ones where “shhhh, I’m not on duty”.
Yeah, so you’ve had that burst of posts and now you’re silent again. Way to go, ANET.
Also, only replying to happy-go-lucky, positive comments won’t solve the issues of your disgruntled fans.
Pretty sure they are not in the office yet… it’s what 6AM in Seattle? Even if they are in the office, I imagine patch day is “chicken with no head” day.
They generally are on the company side. Yes, I speak from having had to serve during a patch day as volunteer CS. It’s terrible
So, I got a question.
Is it possible to take another crack at working on the Achievements listing so they can be organized better? I mean, we got more new categories and things getting shuffled around, can there be a bigger effort to . . . I don’t know . . . make it easier to find one specific one?
Right, those game blatantly required people to buy VIP and premium. But those games are actually the one that don’t cater to whale. It’s almost like a subscription. So there will be a bunch of people spending 10-30$ each month, but usually not more than that.
Honestly . . . no, not the games I’m thinking about. Whales could continuously sink $200+/month into the one game and still only open RNG boxes for things which had minor stat bumps but would keep them easily on top of everyone else along with all the other spending.
And the other . . . when the game is centered on PvP type play, and the only restraint is time to “reload” for another strike . . . but you can get around that by plunking down some cash? It’s amazing how many people think nothing of “$50/week” to stay on top of the leaderboards.
That’s two. There are others which basically set up a velvet rope at the club: “You must spend this much time and real money to get into the fun stuff.” And once you were in, well, then there was the cool VIP suites you could book . . .
There’s a reason I say GW2 “isn’t all that bad” or some stronger language when discussing its cash shop process. They barely avoid (dancing dangerously around the edge) of one of the other sins Daniel cited way earlier – “Never, ever, ever, sell power.” No, GW2 sells the Gem-to-Gold shortcut . . . which I have no problem with. (My problem is more with being able to sell Legendaries. . . )
Rumors have GW2 hired a monetization manager, who previously worked for Nexon.
And the fact that Nexon has just bought controlling interest in NCsofts stocks at the time had nothing to do with that? …..have you ever heard the StockHolder term “protecting one’s interests”???
… sigh … They don’t have controlling interest. 15% is not controlling interest.
It’s not, but I think it’s cited as the biggest single block of interest.
More on the topic of the video. I don’t think this game “caters” to whales in the same way Daniel is talking about. Sure, whales are welcome here but it’s not to spend tons of money to be superior, it’s merely to bypass the randomness of a Legendary (assuming that’s where the money isn’t going instead of other objects).
I’ve played more than a few games where you were expected to buy into the game and the game became more and more balanced around people using “VIP” or “Premium Currency” to get around limitations. Including some where it was blatantly required to buy in.
Why would people want it to fail while being active on these forums?
Never, ever underestimate the drive of a former fan to ruin or see ruined what they once loved.
i think people who are still here want it to succeed, however they different ideas of how that can/will happen
I don’t need to think that – I know it to be true.
Also, still amused that it seems nobody caught my reference earlier . . .
I honestly don’t feel they deserve a name at this point. Destinys Edge had done many heroic deeds, and awesome and amazing things by the time we catch up to them in the PS. I don’t feel that this group has done much of anything to deserve a title of anything….yet.
Destiny’s Edge also existed before the Personal Story picked up, and was more or less the merging of two guilds together, if I recall.
“Destiny’s Edge resulted from the merge of two smaller groups, Edge of Steel (Rytlock, Logan and Caithe) and Dragonspawn’s Destiny (Eir, Garm, Snaff and Zojja). The group came together in 1319 AE due to Eir’s desire to find a group of warriors to defeat the Dragonspawn.”
So they’d been doing stuff before becoming Destiny’s Edge, as well.
That’s still not a prerequisite to have a name for your team.
Why would people want it to fail while being active on these forums?
