Still getting Network error 1083:5:7:1595:101 here. Tried several characters on different maps.
If you can log in on one character, zone them into another map then try to log onto someone else. If you must, force-load a map by maptravelling to a zone with an alt in it to load it. That’s how I unstuck my characters.
What’s the point of numbers, man, all they do is count up or down . . .
They couldn’t keep all the plates spinning while hot fixing, no pun intended, so they got to bring it all down.
Isn’t this a first? I can’t remember when the game was totally offline.
No, not the first time, it had to come down during Lost Shores for a brief reboot I think?
I can log onto my main character, but any other character generates an error message which seems different each time. I can zone with my main character when logging back in, and not crash.

I feel the same when trying to grind in the “grind of grind”
That’s . . . quaint. No, really, that’s a quaint decision that this is grind.
I implore you, go pick up Final Fantasy 7 and go for a max stat game using the dropped Sources. Really want to hear you call this grind. Heck, go earlier to FF1 . . . oh boy that was grindariffic, and still is. (Enjoy the Swamp Cave, my friend!)
What’s really annoying is the walk back from the Waypoint from a few of these chains. Part 5/6 of the Pale Reaver line in particular, as the ruins have a ton of Mordrem Guard hanging around in there making it difficult to run back in alone.

It seems like an easy fix is to put an NPC into WvW that sells them. Once you have your war room you can either buy more from him or go to the war room to buy them. And the NPC can just stay in game selling them. No reason to ever take him out.
You’re assuming all they did was forget to put the NPC in the game. Maybe they didn’t even to put Badges of Tribute into the game?
Given their fix was to remove the requirement, they probably realized there WAS intended to be a way and it wasn’t firing so “quick fix time!” and just snip that off.

Well now I get to do Druid work and am loving that change of pace – if it weren’t for mechanical issues with my controls I’d probably be more useful
(Seriously, that Solar Beam.)
Honestly, I’m still spending a buttload of time in Old Tyria as I have a host of things to actually still do there now. Like Legendary Collections.
Well, so far I’ve only seen Verdant Brink. And I’ve . . . had issues walking from point A (Maguuma Breach) to point G (Noble Cliffs) and not getting into a host of problems. However, once I learn the paths and get the opportunity to use some shortcuts it becomes much easier . . . still potentially deadly though.
(Frigging pocket raptors keeping me in combat mode too long….)
But on the other hand, tying to get back from a waypoint after dying in one of the event chains? Try to get to the last Pale Reaver event from death and Maguuma Breach. It’s really really tough. As in, pretty lethal once you get into those ruins.
Some middle ground in that case, such as not auto-Contesting the waypoint along the path?
Just noticed this in the patch notes …
Updated the Toxic Bacon hero challenge in Auric Basin so that earning it is more clearly understood.
bacon finally gets added to the game and it is toxic?
Haven’t you heard? It increases the risk of cancer, so it must be toxic.
(I’m not kidding either.)
Guys guys, I know what’s missing: A Nargacuga Wing!
Hmmm, nope. A “Heavenly Narga Scale”. Because it’s not simple enough to just need a wing . . .
By the way, if there was a Nargacuga here I think everyone would freak out over the combat. Why? No flash bombs, no sonic bombs, no pit traps
. . . though, our Elder Dragon Zhaitan fight is almost as engaging as beating Lao Shan Lung. We need Jormag to fight like Kushala Daora next
I am really having trouble understanding people’s definition of a grind. Was the content we were doing before not a grind?
Yes, it was the grindiest grind ever.
Or no, it wasn’t a grind.
Or yes, but it wasn’t this bad.
Take your pick, really.
I’m more curious what the heck they’re used for.
They’re for the new scribe profession to make pen & paper with, which then will be used for guild hall decorations and other scribe stuff.
Oh!
. . . so they’re supposed to go in the guild vault, or such, not in bank slots.
If there’s no grind, why are there milling stones now? I mean, that’s what they do – they grind things.
I am coming to the conclusion that if you agree with what a person writes on the forums then that makes them insightful and unbiased…… lol…. but that is probably just my biased and uninsightful perception of things
No, biased and insightful perception, I’d say.
no we can’t. we’re supposed to buy more storage slots with gems.
I’m more curious what the heck they’re used for.
Might as well say that to cof and vendors. Unlocking a minigame with events are gating? seems everhthinf are considered gating nowadays.
When you slice down to the definition of “gating” – generally there is some sort of gating.
There’s “time gating” where things are unlocked through spending time, and very little else. People generally hate this because it means they must spend X hours/days before they can do something, and this is actually pretty big in mobile gaming because it means . . . at its best intent, the player can queue something and then set the game down.
There’s “skill gating” where your talent in playing the game is what defines how far you can go. People generally hate this because it slams a brick wall down at some point and goes “get better or get out”. A lot of times, the players genuinely can’t due to manual dexterity, latency issues, or just plain response problems.
There’s “key gating” where an item is required to pass the gate. Can also be character flags instead of actual keys-as-items, to reduce inventory cluttering. People don’t like this because, invariably, they feel it’s pointless busy work before they can get down to it.
Then . . . there’s “luck gating” which is very much what it sounds like. Are you lucky enough to get through? There’s no skills to work on, no modifiers or help you can go get, it’s very simply “did RNGeesus favor you, yes/no”. People really hate these because if the answer is “no” then you have to go back for another try and hope the butterfly flaps its wings the other way.
white knights be like : nah , you ain’t know nothing about grind
Nah, I’ll be like:
“. . . if doing the events are grind, you should stay the frick away from raids. Any raid. In any game, not just this one.”
By the way, if you want grind? Look up Disgaea, Tyrant Baal. “Who the h*** is this guy? You got to be kidding! Level 4000?!” (Dwayna’s mercy that game was a grindy pit. Still fun, though.)
ANet hit fun with a 15 stack of burning. Now it’s about playing the way they want.
. . . it’s their game, it’s always been about “playing the way we want”. Anything else is just lies and fictions players tell themselves because they’re allowed to choose not to go into grindy if they don’t really want to.
(Most times. I mean, before now, if you want the shiny yellow-colored coins you are going to have to get to work. You want that pink named gear? Get to work and sink some time into that.)
Now it’s a lot like “well, you can still make it through but you’re going to be taking the long way”. And notably, that gate in the story content about the level 4 mastery? It’s getting fixed.
There has never truly been “play this game your way”, anywhere – not even in tabletop RPGs because you’re still playing by the GM’s rulings and output. The only game conceivably which does that is Minecraft. And even then it can be argued you don’t get to play it your way in some edge cases.
This whole “but I can’t play MY WAY!” crap really annoys me, especially because ANet should have been savvy enough not to say something like that to the generations of today. They should have said:
“Here’s our world of Tyria. Approach it as you like, we don’t feel you need to be pressured to rush to the end just to have a good time. We don’t want to tell you no, you must be this l33t to ride, we want to tell you everyone has something they can do in this game and still make a difference to other players.”
But, hey, I’m sure if they said that there’s still be people complaining they need to get to the end to have a good time because that’s the only way they can.
As far as LDoN, that really depends. LDoN dungeons were amazing to level in. I loved the procedural randomness to it, and it made leveling characters a lot faster, and finding groups for LDoNs were a lot easier to do. I will agree with you beyond that. The currency system they added to get the gear from it was very meh, and the raid content introduced in LDoN was extremely bad.
It was grindariffic more than people claim HoT is, if you wanted those augments, those shiny, new, min/maxable augments. And it was boring as all kitty kitty . . .
worst expac ever.
No, still see “Hellfire” for the original Diablo as much worse. Then there was “Lost Dungeons of Norrath” . . .
. . . I mean, six gods those were TERRIBLE.
Of course I’m bored, that’s why I’m waiting for the patch to finish so I can play something.
Or pay more cash for a game you already bought. Yeah… sounds fun.
I’m not sure if you realize, but that sort of model is why we don’t have a monthly fee.
As for the “cost” aspect . . . seriously speaking here. Set aside $20 from a paycheck and use it for your entertainment budget. Just forego that beer one week, or stay in for dinner. Or skip going to see the new Sandler flick (speaking of content not worth a dime).
In the meantime, has it been considered to have Vinewrath’s chest drop an item which unlocks one of the LS2 chapters? Or scatter the random drops between Dry Top / Silverwastes in the chests? Or both?
If I didn’t like grinding, I wouldn’t be playing this genre in the first place. :P
No, you’d be playing League, right? No grind there! (He says with a bitter laugh.)
“They said they don’t want people grinding/farming endlessly for stuff”
They said that they don’t want people grinding for stats but that it would be expected for cosmetics.
. . . and for Ascended. I don’t think they ever dissembled about that.
Well they added that after the statement that there would be no grind for BiS gear.
So far, they’re 0 for 2 on that front – Exotics were either not really a grind or were too terrible of a grind, and Ascended is something even developers come in here and go “yeah, that’s kind of a bit much” to paraphrase.
I suppose it’s much more amusing these are items which either used to be gem store items or were specifically available for the finale of Season 1 and went away . . . I didn’t see anything in there which was new as far as items went. This is another open availability for these items if you want them that badly.
But everyone’s flipping out like they’re going away again for good. Folks, it’s like Disney and their movies – it’ll be back out at some time in the future. We all know it’s very likely now since they did this as well at the Laurel Merchants with other LS1 goods.
Sheesh, it’s like listening to the outcry about the freaking Mini Polar Bear all over again.
“They said they don’t want people grinding/farming endlessly for stuff”

Everything is killing the game, and nothing is saving it.
At least, if you read the forums and reddit.
“Play your way” was marched into the street and executed 5 minutes after launch.
. . . before that, when I couldn’t “play my way” by executing every single charr in the Black Citadel on reaching 80.
I get told they don’t exist either.. then one always comes along and posts. It’s like clockwork!
Or a conspiracy. Hmmm. Maybe they’re not actually open-world PvPers but PvErs pretending to be so vile and disgusting to discredit the whole thing!
But nobody would ever do that, it would require them to be . . . trolling. And we know that doesn’t happen!
I would LOVE an open pvp zone. Ganking pve’ers would make me soooooo happy.
This is the attitude why the the PvE crowd won’t ever touch PvP. kthxbai
These are the people I get told do not exist by the people who favor open world PvP, for the record.
Oh, hey, it’s this again.
Make it absolutely lootless and not required for any progression at all, and I’ll give it a thumbs up.
I wouldn’t, I would rather that they put dev time on something else.
So would I but since I keep seeing this come up, I might as well just shut up and nod agreement. There’s no point discussing anything on this topic – the people who want it don’t want a discussion. They want to kill people in the manner they are accustomed to in other games, and won’t stop bringing this up until they get it.
Maybe if they get it and realize it sucks not having people to pick on, they’ll go away.
Oh, hey, it’s this again.

Personally I just want to be sure I know exactly which dyes are the order/Pact colors so I can dye that way.
He’s already here:
You win. You win everything.
Guys! Guys! lets get a fez, bowtie, and a loooong scarf and a mini robot dog and sonic screwdriver skin. All happy?
No, needs to also have red trainers on.
:)
So, which Doctor is it going to be? Could we get a fez?
Erm the most obvious choice is a long scarf…
Actually I’ll settle for a celery stalk on the lapel.
So, which Doctor is it going to be? Could we get a fez?
This game has THE WORST story telling I have ever seen.
Yep.
You’ll get used to it.
Still not as bad as Minecraft.
But then people would get breachmaker flashbacks.
Nobody wants that.
I do. I’d sell tickets, popcorn, and fruity-tasting drinks with little umbrellas in them.
Can I make a guild about BDSM?
As long as you don’t offend the missionary guild.
Wait, is that a guild of missionaries or a guild about missionaries, or is it a mission established by Dwayna . . .
Too many questions!
Please remember that a very large portion of your player base doesn’t agree with the court’s decision today.
Please remember that Marjory and Kasmeer don’t agree with that very large portion of the player base!
. . . the ones who want access to Cantha again?
Now if ANet had tweeted something to do with confederate flag, that’s something I’d be entirely against.
Why? A confederate flag simply stands for the Confederacy, a short-lived and now extinct country, right?
Almost as much as a certain other flag represents a political party in a European country simply stands for that. Flags are symbols, and thus have more meaning than simply being a flag. That’s the nature of their existence.
Can I make a guild about BDSM?
. . . why not? I’ve heard of guilds with weirder tastes. No, I won’t go into it.
But I hear it told in whispers there’s a guild devoted to nothing but bearbows. Bearbows who hit Point Blank Shot immediately on refresh regardless of timing.
Laugh it up, but wait until the advocate groups start up about how one dog should be allowed to marry another dog despite gender or breed.
And yes, I know they exist.
Marriage has nothing to do with biology. It never has. Otherwise, we wouldn’t “breed” dogs, we’d give them “marriages”.
I suspect fifteen minutes with Google and I could find a canine wedding.
Edit: 10 seconds and yes, it exists.
A pro LGBT guild is not offensive, but a pro heterosexual guild is? Smells like a hypocrite to me,
Depends, doesn’kitten If the pro LGBT guild is quietly just existing and not doing anything and the pro-heterosexual guild exists only to be seen and advertise a specific choice/position . . .
. . . eh, still a judgement call. Careful with your guild name. And good luck.
How is asking the company to refrain from politics hateful? That is what the thread is supposed to be about after all.
Personally, I’d rather everyone stayed out of politics and let it calm back down out of whipping up emotionally-charged discussions like this one any time a whiff of the topic of choice comes up.
And I’d rather the government focus on trying to keep things running and/or improving on infrastructure rather than worrying about things like this.
And I’d really like to enjoy playing my game without having to witness things which really offend me. Yes, I’m talking about that insidious evil . . .
. . . asura.
Maybe they can start by saying “what would Jesus do?”
Finally manage to self-res from downed after a few days because someone botched the finisher?
Actually, we are. If they advertise guild halls as part of the release, and do not specify limitations, then it would be false advertising to change an aspect of the game such as that.
. . . you keep thinking that. I’ll just be shaking my head over a misunderstanding of what “false advertising” actually is.
Hint, it’s not what you just described.
