So much for.. “YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING AT LEVEL 1 THAT YOU CAN DO AT MAX LEVEL!”
Bear in mind that was always bull hockey – you were automatically level 2 on finishing the opening story instance. So at level one all you could do is, well, the first story instance.
Hi,
I am planning on starting an alt again when i get some time. Why don’t we play together as I would like to experience it with you and hear your feedback.
Chris
I’d play with you! I’d even be nice. :P
Aww thanks <hugs>
I am going to finish this doc now.
Chris
Can I get in on this? Is it going to be a real Thing?
If you’re on SBI I’ll be happy to nab a character slot and run along. I might even play a class I don’t know
You level up faster so vets should be happy. New players have a better way of understanding the game. The real issue here is people not being able to key farm and complaining about it under other reasons. With this new system if your creating an alt you can level him faster! I think more key farmers here then anything else.
Did you watch the video?
Many more times than i wanted and it doesn’t ever change. Needs a feature pack ASAP.
Title: Guild changes in Lions’s Arch
Summary: The following post, was made right before April ‘14, and was trying to suggest some changes to Guilds as they might relate to the rebuilding of poor Lions Arch and may now be more apropos to this CDI
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Wish-List-Lion-s-Arch-A-Phoenix-Reborn/first#post3629795
So here is a great opportunity for 2 birds/one stone. Not only can you integrate players in the reconstruction of our fair city but also additionally institute the guild update in one fell swoop.
Also would be nice if this system was not limited solely to Lion’s Arch and there were a number of places in the world where architects are preparing foundations for large-scale buildings and are looking for guilds to donate to the efforts. After donating, some choices are made in dialogue and saved over the course of two weeks (or whatever the window is) and when its over the choices are tallied and the building enters construction. Guilds who reached a minimum of donation now have the leaders/officers capable of viewing construction progress.
During construction, giving over supplies will help tailor-make some aspects of the hall interior . . . like using soft wood instead of elder wood will have a different texture to wood inside the building, for instance. All this is tracked in the progress screen, along with some potential previews.
When finished, the guilds who donated to the efforts get a key to access the guild hall – they may only have one at a time and if they want they can hand it back and receive a refund . . . and can go find another hall they want (but the furnishings will be basic and need to be customized if they wish).
While the guild completes Guild Missions, trophies of their efforts appear in the hall (and will carry over to other halls) which show their level of completion. Perhaps for bounties they get a board with bios of the targets they’ve successfully apprehended?
Guild Meeting Points
Essentially an area on an overworld (PvE) map that can be used as an impromptu guild hall, with associated QoL features.
Features
- A guild may set a location as a meeting point once per week. The nearest waypoint is free for representing guild members.
- Bank, guild bank, other vendors and crafting stations spawned by guild members within the area last for 7 days (limit 1 of each, inclusive of permanent stations).
- Can not be used in PvP, dungeons or WvW, and cannot overlap other guild meeting points on the same map.Potential issues
- Megaserver map shut-down may destroy banks and stations.
- Hazardous areas of the map would be poorly suited to such a feature. May need to specify safe zones.
- Placement of stations over pre-existing interactive objects would be a problem for much longer.
I like this idea somewhat as it does foster an idea of a guild leaving a lasting impression on the world and “adopting” a spot, like setting up a camp in the wilderness as something for other adventurers to wander to and thus promote the guild’s presence.
Even if we get Guild Halls, I think this might be also nice to exist. “Hey, fellow guild members, we’re going to be setting up a camp in Mount Maelstrom today near the last standing ruins of Droknar’s Forge.”
Might I ask exactly what you mean by “Logistics and Quality of Life”? I assume this isn’t encompassing possible guild related content we’d like to see, but would like to have full clarity on exactly what’s on the table for discussion
I’m assuming as I think on it we’re not really talking about content so much as we’re talking about working on the system for guilds itself. Like how a guild leader can kick themselves out of the guild . . .
We will be talking about content though as one of the phases.
Chris
Excellent, excuse me while I round up the people who want GvG
BTW, you guys hiring another writer?
Konig4Loremaster 2014!
I thought we were backing Shriketalon . . .

I kept dodging backwards. How do you go forwards?
Default, it’s double-tap forward. You can turn off doubletap and then it’s “dodge + direction” otherwise it’s a default backroll.
This is certainly possible, yes. On the other hand, it is also certainly possible that much of the criticism is warranted, with no external motive behind it.
Oh I didn’t say it was unwarranted. I just said it’s more likely someone needed to dash out a column with little to no time left and picked something simple they didn’t need to do much on other than just collect some reactions and cobble it into something they could sell to the editor.
Gaming news can have worse quality control than tabloid rags.
Ahh yes, go into theories about “ulterior motives.” How constructive.
“Ah, yes, ‘Reapers’, we’ve already dismissed that…”
found in a green chest as a reward to an AC boss
All right. Now . . . now to get in on an AC group.
Well, it doesn’t work or fit here. And they could’ve left this stupid level gating in the Chinese version without making us deal with it.
I think it would have been better to only force new accounts to do it and anyone older than 90 days wouldn’t have the “New Player Experience” to prevent this problem with people who alt a lot.
Anyway. If I had a free character slot I’d be tempted to make a character named ‘Dances With Cows’. :-D
Bonus points if you can make him look like Kevin Costner.
And if I had a free character slot I’d be working on playing through this stuff right now instead of what I am doing – sitting idle and helping people out while checking in here and waiting for that AC motor to get fixed.
Ok how about this. We continue to chat today, I get my doc done and we start the CDI tomorrow morning. I am happy either way. Let me know.
Chris
Delegate. Go find some intern to serve to the wolves, I mean, send to the forums
No, not completely gone. But parts of it are, and the end bits are out of order now.
Well they had the order reshuffled, probably based on difficulty? I don’t recall enough of the play of the story bits to remember.
I do remember few of them really were a problem for my first character, but then I did everything after “Claw Island” after I hit 80% world completion, and thus was 80 . . . my guardian on the other hand . . . yeah, doing story parts as soon as they came up bit her cute norn behind rather hard.
Diving goggles seem to have been level locked. -Another thread with in-game screenshot.
And forgive me if this has been asked but my lvl 34 Mesmer needs to know if she’ll have to spend more skill points a second time to unlock the elite skills that were already unlocked but are now gone until lvl40.
I don’t think so, from what I heard. They’re unlocked but unavailable.
. . . I would offer to look and find out but my lowest active character with elites is 41
That will be a concern no matter what. Frankly these forums need a boost of positivity and healthy discussion. Despite any misgivings in the past I have for the CDI’s, right now a CDI is probably what is best to restore order to the chaos on here right now.
I’m concerned about whether it will need heavy moderation to stay on topic and not have snarky posts taking stabs at the developers (or Chris, since he’s the visible one) taking up most of the time.
Its funny because it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Gw2 at launch had no endgame. So even if people made it to 80, they would have quit within an hour. It isn’t much better now, only slighty.
I find it strange, I made it to 80 and while I quit within an hour it was because I looked and saw it was 4am and I had work that day.
So I guess you’re technically right?
This type of gating is never a good thing imo. It feels like a cheesy asian mmo.
Final Fantasy 14: ARR does it, honestly, for the first 15 or so levels. Heck, one of the big things (changing classes) is locked until level 10.
And yet . . . it works.
It would be interesting to keep an eye on it and see if you ever get a rare or exotic shortly after swapping. Not saying it would be impossible if this system was in place, but it would be less likely because it would be at the “default rate.”
I would be behind this, except . . .
. . . I mostly just do World Boss tours and hang around trying to get materials to barter off to friends. Or help people do events/skill points. Rather than trying to farm . . .
That’s most likely the most ridiculous argument/opinion regarding the new system I’ve read.
Notice how the OP just disappeared after posting his views.
I don’t think he’s interested in a discussion, just wanna ruffle some feathers.
Or he went to work instead of having the day off like I do (which is coupled by sitting in a Texas house with no air conditioning until the motor arrives “soon™”.
Today was, after some postergations, the day the collaborative development was goign to start. If its true the day isnt over, i still dont find the topic… i guess its still not here.
So, after making the CDI after the feature patch, witch ahve a lot of sense, i supose something must have happened for it to not been here.
My personal speculation is that is related to the feature patch, either its reception or some unexpected problems with it. To start a topic with a community that want you dead isnt exactly something we all wish for….
Check the communication thread – Chris is actively working on getting it out amidst other things. And he asked if people thought it was worth starting today or postponing, which suggests a hesitation to engage the players.
And it’s not the first time he said something along the line of “I’m not sure if the CDI would be productive”.
I never uninstalled the game, rather I have a new computer that I havent installed it on. Perhaps I will try it out anyways. I suppose game forums may be like most areas of life, people who are displeased are more likely to post on them. Though, maybe not.
Sorry, I dont remember what server I was on.
If it’s Stormbluff, be aware you may see me wandering about areas trying to actually play the game instead of thinking about playing it.
The problem is not typical to just GW2, but many MMO’s face the same problem. It seemed the first few hours is what decided for new players if they want to continue playing the game.
So how does making your game play feel as bad as every free MMO on the market make more players want to choose to buy GW2?
We have quaggans and charr Therefore we are automatically better.
THanks for the list. I’m still hanging out in low level areas trying to play traffic director on these things
I was going to reinstall the game later tonight, but there is so much negativity on the forums. Is it bad? Is the game empty? I never got past level 40, but always enjoyed the game. Is it not fun anymore?
Depends. What’s your stance on dancing for cows?
I preferred cow tipping until I learned it’s dangerous for the cows. So now I just eat more steak.
We should keep the conversation away from discussing the patch and on the topic of how we can better discuss the patch.
You know how we can better discuss the patch? By people being more engaging about what they don’t like and how they feel it doesn’t work rather than parroting “it sucks, fix it”. Or trying to solidify the forum meme of “I could X but I haven’t unlocked it yet”.
It’s incredibly more useful to developers to see someone putting the time to explain why rather than just “i’m dissatisfied”.
Reinstall the game and don’t uninstall it again. That way, you can just patch, get in the game, and judge for yourself.
I want to note – there are reasons to uninstall games you don’t intend to go back to. Primarily if space limitation is an issue, as GW2 isn’t small.
To OP:
I don’t think you’ll find things all that terrible, save for the trait issues (which, really, aren’t all that different from traits before except for the unlocking path). I’d offer to try helping but I don’t know what server you’re on.
I actually wasn’t aware of the PS flow changes. My closest character to Orr after my main is lvl 73 and I can’t do those until I hit 80, so I didn’t get a chance to observe and see those changes in action. Now I need to get that character to lvl 80 fast before they revert them (if they do so) so I can see what you’re talking about.
They won’t revert it so soon.
Wow, I didn’t know we were complaing that much to warrant a gaming site to picked it up.
Slow news day. Or easy target which doesn’t hit back. You take your pick.
This is certainly possible, yes. On the other hand, it is also certainly possible that much of the criticism is warranted, with no external motive behind it.

Gaming news can have worse quality control than tabloid rags.
If you really want to know, it’s because I did support and believe in the game, but now im simply killing time until Archeage launch.
I’m not talking about why you’re on the forums. I’m talking about why are you hanging around saying things like that? I mean, what’s the message if someone walks up to you as you’re trying to do your job and go “you know, I don’t think you’re going to care but you guys all suck for changing this” when it’s something you both didn’t have control over and is done by someone you know and trust to have done good work.
It’s not helpful, and it basically doesn’t leave any room to try to help because it opens up with the assumption there’s no intention of help.
I mean, I get how you feel . . . but it just doesn’t seem to be possible to get anything out of this sort of thing than “Customer is unhappy with the change”.
(edited by Tobias Trueflight.8350)
I just realized something. This game has become a mirror of the US government. Both Anet and the government say they are listening. They say they are doing things ‘for the people’. And people are constantly complaining that they are not being listened to, are being forced to do things they hate, and are disillusioned about what is happening. Both are being paid ‘by the people’ they supposedly are serving/doing things for, but they forget it, and feel they know what we want, without ever asking us.
Do you really need to go there? I mean, really?
Wow, I didn’t know we were complaing that much to warrant a gaming site to picked it up.
Slow news day. Or easy target which doesn’t hit back. You take your pick.
Heh someone over there make a good point in the comment. Remember that manifesto trailer when one of the team say how boring it is to swing a sword over and over again. Guess what, that’s what we are exactly doing in the dumb down start of the game now!
We were doing that already through most of the game. “Autoattack Skill #1 and AFK” has always been the joke about how to play the game since day zero.
You forgot to mention that parts of the PS have been cut entirely and that the order of events in Orr have been rearranged.
It needed to have something done to it, really.
I don’t know if this is what needed to happen but there really needed to be some work done to how the PS flowed.
It’s not because of confusing game mechanics. It’s because leveling to 80 is a huge, tedious chore and leveling as means of progress is an outdated concept. Just blow off levels altogether and work from there.
That was tried in an early build. From what I recall, the testers didn’t like the feel of it so they went back to levels.
This is more a comment on the fan’s reactions. I don’t think anyone at PC gamer tested it. They certainly didn’t say they did.
Ofcourse they don’t say it u whiteknight.
When I read a review on a gamesite and I don’t see anything where they litteraly tell that they played the game, then man, I won’t take that review seriously!!!Dude, your white knighting is losing its touch.
He’s not a white knight. However, I can’t state my opinion of what he really is, since I’ll get an infraction again. Just bear in mind that he is able to actively defend the game for at leastt 8 hours a day (check his posting history) and does to on every thread, with a PR-esque demeanor.
You can honestly like something that others don’t without it having a nefarious and dishonest purpose. :/
Hey, what’s this? Reasoned response in the GW2 forums?
. . . oh Dwayna it really happens . . .
By the way, your suspicions, Templar? Definitely remind me why I hate debating tactics these days. Why actually discuss the topics on hand when you can just cast doubt on your opponent’s credibility?
So the question now is the current environment conducive to starting a CDI or should I wait a few days?
Chris
Chris I am worried that the current state of the community from the disappointment from the feature patch will derail any worthwhile information that could be provided for the CDI.
Any worthwhile information will be disregarded anyways.
If you really believe that, why are you even here . . . ?
So the question now is the current environment conducive to starting a CDI or should I wait a few days?
Chris
If you are proud of what your team has done like you said, then you have no reason to worry about the `current environment´ Chris.
I still want to advocate “infinite postponement” since any CDI is going to get overrun right now with stuff not on topikittenil the topic burns up and dies.
There are definitely bugs and some external miscommunication with the system and I want to listen some more before discussing.
ChrisThis is interesting.
Chris is saying there has been external miscommunication about the new system. Could it be that you guys realize you went too far with the removing of functions and level gating it too extreme, and it was not supposed to dumb down the game quite this much?
Hi Traveller,
No not really. I m referring to some videos etc that aren’t quite factually correct in all areas and thus there are some misconceptions being propagated by those that have not played the through NPE yet.
Chris
Do you have a response to reviews from big gaming media outlets (like PC Gamer) who are posting poor reviews of the new leveling system?
I wouldn’t bet on him providing one, since it would be a personal opinion rather than ANet’s official stance.
But what will the CDI be about? I’m afraid that the changes to the Personal Story won’t be addressed, since talk about it seems to get drowned out by other things. It breaks my heart to think that content from the PS will forever be cut from the game, and that my voice won’t reach ANet’s ears.
It’s on Guilds.
I managed to get one in Ascalonian Catacombs tonight, sold it for a decent amount of gold.
I guess that means it’s just part of the general drop list then. And probably with a very small chance to drop.
Sounds like the chance for “Breath of Kralkatorrik” drop out of the Shatterer chest.
Vayne will be here soon to help by explaining why his personal experience has shown him that these changes are well suited to new players and veteran players. Just wait.
Is there anybody else who honestly likes these changes? In every topic it is always Vayne irrationally defending the game. If you truly believe this game is flawless no matter what points people bring up, you can’t be reasoned with and thus your opinion hold no merit.
He doesn’t believe the game is flawless. But not that people really remember that when they can remember him as a zealous fanboy who won’t listen to any criticism.
It’s not even really worth talking about anymore, because it’s just . . . it’s just easier to go “Oh, it’s Vayne, he works for ArenaNet and gets paid to defend everything” than to try to just go “I don’t agree”.
BTW Where’s the Fractal Collection?
It exists, but I am not sure what unlocks it.
That being said, the wiki of the Grand Weapon Crate is really light on detail (or has none, rather); can anyone tell us if the exotics we choose are exclusively dropped unique exotics or include mystic forged exotics (like Infinite Light)?
Ascended Accoutrement Collection
Reward: 100 AP, Grand Artisan title, and Grand Weapon Crate (your choice of an unique exotic weapon from champion loot bags)
Collect 18 crafted ascended armor (6 per weight class x 3 weight class)
I am a bit surprised that more people aren’t upset about the poor rewards.
Indeed.
They created the perfect scavenger hunt that could have had precursors at the end…
…and then removed the precursor and placed a random exotic.
Probably was a form of the scavenger hunt they had in mind before they decided Precursors needed something else. Sort of like how Mawdrey smacks of “building yourself a Legendary instead of buying it”.
I’d almost ready to wager gold these two things are ideas they had, started testing and went “whoa, wait a moment, we need to do something better than this”. But someone rescued it for a pet project and polished it into something which could be used in the game.
Hearts give rare items now? Rare items that have a small drop rate and come entirely from RNG…oh wait, nope….
Please, keep attributing stuff to me which I didn’t say. I’d love to keep playing that game all day.
You started, I blatantly said rare items, you talked about hearts….you post was not remotely relevant to what I was pointing out.
Sure it is, it’s relevant to the collections. The spoons one, for instance, is a lot of finding your Hearts which had spoons. Same for the Jar one. There’s some drops in the category but that’ll level out in time.
And as such, I stated and will reiterate with some expansion: I think the collection idea wasn’t just to reach into the wallets of the weak-minded. I think it was intended to, for the most part, get people to go find the pieces of the collections themselves. You know, by playing the game rather than cracking open the wallet. Sure, you can, but that was always the case to skip right to having something rather than working for it. (Always. Not recently, always. Ever since people noticed Legendaries were bind-on-use and not bind-on-acquire . . . )
Hearts give rare items now? Rare items that have a small drop rate and come entirely from RNG…oh wait, nope….
Please, keep attributing stuff to me which I didn’t say. I’d love to keep playing that game all day.
The gw2 collections is intended to drive up prices on limited supply rare items to encourage people to spend real world $$$ to convert to gold. it’s shady business practice at best.
Or it’s intended to draw people to go looking into places they finished once and forgot about, especially Heart areas . . .
But again, why think that’s a possibility when we can attribute malice and/or stupidity?
The leveling is really really fast. You actually unlock the weapon skills almost as fast, because it’s automatic by level now. So if you go to a weapon you never used at 20 all your skills are unlocked automatically. And the 1-15 level experience has been greatly accelerated.
I don’t know if I like that as much, theoretically the idea is you are getting used to the weapon and learning “new tricks” to use with them. The idea of instant expertise always sort of bugged me a bit when compared to how we got weapon skills before (i.e., go to a low level event and just hit things).
