November Monthly ??? question

Tolmos.8395

I noticed on the November monthly that there are 2 sections for me with “???” listed. What does this mean?

Does this mean that they will not be released until later, or does this mean I need to discover what they are and when I happen to complete one of the objectives I will suddenly be able to see it?

I disagree entirely on avoiding turrets. I leveled 1-80 on a full belt of them, no prob. World events no prob. Instances no prob. Be smart on placement and you can get full uptime on them.

I don’t run them in sPVP but in WvW I do. 3 turrets + elixir U. I have no probs with 1v1 fights and sometimes even 1v2s.

Turrets are niche… It just happens that their niche covers 90% of the situations you will encounter in the game.

The workaround doesn’t work. It remains soulbound to the lvl 2 character.

It’s lying. It says it is, but you can place the now transmuted item in the bank and another character can run with it. Tested and it works just fine.

Again- after your transmute it will says soul bound but that is a lie. It is no longer soul bound.

New GW trinity idea

Tolmos.8395

@teviko: you are reiterating over and over again how you love roles and other types of games – and you actually went to play those games again. Which is perfectly fine. But what you are doing here is antagonizing anyone who does not share your opinion on games apparently for the sheer sake of it and hijacking a thread that had been rather neat and informative. Congratulations.

I said, in one of my posts, that I put this post here because the threads would either get merged, or one would get deleted due to..repetativeness.

Yes, I have made my post clear, and when I asked what the OP was suggesting, all he did was yell at me.

I am just not sure what he is ‘calling’ for, and when asked, all ‘he’ is doing is saying the same thing about how he doesn’t want a holy trinity, but he wants roles to be…defined? I’m just not sure, it seems he is not suggesting anything, other than something to denote the current players’ deemed position at any given time.

It works for his guild, which is great, not too many run guilds or jump in other people’s vents to coordinate.

I’m just not so sure what it is he is suggesting to achieve.

As for my ‘suggestion’ it is open for discussion. No one is discussing it. People are using it as a platform to ‘rail’ against the Holy trinity without taking the time to read the discussion and perhaps think it over.

People are just: “I hate the holy trinity….NEXT!”

It’s likely because most people here are happy with the current dungeoning system and don’t wish to see any changes. We are 2 months into the game- the herd has been thinned. The people left are new players or those who honestly enjoy the mechanics of the game. Finding many people who would want a drastic change to something most people here seem to love will be difficult.

Guess the profession and the race from the poster above.

Is Engineer At a disadvantage With no access to Signets?

in Engineer

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

Tolmos.8395

I started out as a Ranger who ran all signets, and switched to an engineer. Honestly, I can’t say whether we are put at a disadvantage because we lack them, but I will say this:

A) Signets are boring. VERY boring. I can’t imagine playing engineer, who lacks weapon swap, with a bar full of signets. My eyes would bleed
B) My level 80 dual pistol engie kitten both warriors and rangers, 2 of the 3 primary signet classes, in both sPvP and WvW. I don’t miss the signets at all
C) I think elixirs > signets. Personal Opinion though

So, about console ports...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tolmos.8395

You won’t see this game on the PS3, period. Games have to be designed a certain way to work on that system, and the players convincing Arenanet to put that kind of effort forth for a PS3 would have a snowball’s chance in hell of succeeding.

The Xbox would be a pretty good option, but it’s weak… still, GW2 scales beautifully, it just wouldn’t be that pretty on there. It would be doable, if they cared to make it so. But honestly, a business decision of that magnitude wouldn’t likely to be something they would make after the fact- if they already planned to console port, they will. Otherwise, I doubt it.

Either way, I’d love to see one. I have a few non-PC gamer friends that I would like to get into this game.

Dual pistol engineer is absolutely amazing in the right hands. I’ve been running it from 1-80 and there have been few people able to beat me 1v1 in WvW or sPvP, and PvE has never been a problem.

The only detractor for P/P engie is that it doesn’t look quite as cool as the thief, who can shoot both pistols at once =D

Tolmos.8395

All I can say to the people wanting roles is: L2P. Yes, GW2 is harder in instances because of the lack of roles- you can no longer rely on someone else to carry you through. Suddenly you have to actually be GOOD at the game to make it through the instance in one piece. I know that’s a difficult concept to muster when coming from WoW, but that is how it is.

Arenanet is not likely going to upend their entire system for the same of a few misplaced WoW players. Now, I could see them putting in an easier mode for people struggling and personally I think that would be a great idea, but to butcher one of its primary selling points? I highly, highly doubt it.

I appreciate the update! Would it be possible for a GM to change our story path if we were to create a ticket? Instead of waiting until next week or even 2-3 weeks from now to be able to continue our character, could we instead put out a ticket and get knocked back to the quest where we choose what direction we go? This would allow us to choose a non-broken story arc, like maybe the Quaggans!

I know I would love to be able to continue the story on my main, Tolmos

New GW trinity idea

Tolmos.8395

God I hope they never introduce a trinity into this game… I love how it is right now and could honestly see myself never doing another instance if they introduced one.

The major draw for instancing in this game vs others is that it is so difficult, so challenging… every player has to be on their best game. All these players who claimed to be so “skilled” are suddenly dragged kicking and screaming from their ability to rely on other people to carry them through the instances. It’s so easy to DPS when you can stand still just hit a rotation. There’s no skill in that- no effort is required. Just hit the same number combos over and over, while randomly having to play “Simon Says” with some dungeon mechanic (jump on this square, now back to this. Avoid the fire. Etc). Suddenly, if they suck it shows. That’s where a lot of the rage on forums is coming from.

I love the every man for himself concept, and it’s been a lot of fun to play with so far. I only hope they keep this, as it’s what defines GW2 instancing.

Seriously, though, you might consider a non-kiting class. I hate to say it but that’s a core mechanic of a clothie- you won’t be able to avoid it and you certainly won’t be able to convince Arenanet to make such a drastic change to one of their classes. You would do far better to play a warrior, guardian or ranger where kiting is a non-issue. Those classes can actually be very relaxing. Especially ranger.

Tolmos.8395

Seriously? People are complaining about having to ask about a dungeon group? If I don’t hear a response in a minute or so, I’ll start up a group myself. That’s the problem, imo, is that far too many people will be spamming LFG, instead of GLFxM. Sometimes you have to step up and form a group; don’t sit around spamming chat and complaining that no one is answering you. 9 times out of 10, when I yell that I’m forming a group in LA, my group will be filled within five minutes.

I’ve never understood why people clamor for a dungeon finder when it’s already pretty kitten easy to get a group formed.

Exactly! There is nothing more fun than screaming “LF2M dungeon” for half an hour until everyone gets tired of waiting and your group disbands, only to give you the immense pleasure of doing it ALL over again!

Otherwise I definitely suggest rifle warrior.

Soloable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

Tolmos.8395

Want an entirely solo game? The why the heck are you on a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game?

Because group PvE gameplay is only a tiny portion of many MMOs that a lot players don’t give 2 hoots about?

Because an MMO means playing in a game that is constantly changing and diversified by having other players, which can include their effects on the tradepost, their roleplaying (if that’s your thing), their effects on the world around you by doing events themselves, or generally being able to help or run with others when you feel like it but not being required to?

Because this MMO is greatly focused on PvP and it would be nice to get to 80 for WvW without having to rely on sometimes nonexistent other players?

Sorry, but that argument is old, tired and pretty much the definition of fail. Every time it is used on ANY game forum it immediately gets blown out of the water… and yet surprisingly keeps appearing. A simplistic 2D view of MMOs will get you nowhere- there’s FAR more to the game than PvE group play.

HOWEVER, that being said- I have yet to run into anything outside of dungeons that I could not solo (with the exception of 1 champ mob in harathi, a spider that requires you to kill it in 12 minutes but returns to 100% health halfway through the fight. I couldn’t muster the DPS to drop him). Champ mobs take patience due to sheer health, but they are soloable. I have also soloed this act 3 of the Halloween event. It is very possible for MOST situations.

Forgot how annoying screaming LFG can be...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tolmos.8395

Gah, kids these days just don’t understand how to build communities and be social! There are 2 main groups here:

Group A) These guys understand how to build communities! Shouting LFG over and over in chat while standing in town, doing nothing, because you have to be in a populated area to get people- THAT is how you socialize. Screaming LFG so much that you end up being put on block lists, reported for spamming, having group after group fall apart because you can’t find that last person in time… those are LIFE EXPERIENCES that people without the dungeon finder will simply never know and be able to share with their grandchildren! There is nothing like making your guild hate you by overflowing their chat with “LFG LFG”. It’s the superior option, as opposed to those anti-social D bags who sit around “chatting” and talking about inane and pointless things like GIRLS (ew) and sports (brutes…) instead of community building!

But then you have these new kids who know nothing of socialization. They are group B.

Group B ) These simpletons would rather hit a button to find their group so they can go out into the open world and actually play the game while waiting. What is wrong with them? I’ll you what- they are LAZY. They would rather do events, explore and complete hearts than spend their time COMMUNITY BUILDING by standing around in town just shouting LFG over and over. These people obviously should just go play a single player game since they don’t understand the true draw of an MMO.

Don’t be a group B player. Even if they put in a dungeon finder, don’t use it! Spam LFG! Avoid the open world content! Stand in town and show these youngsters what community building is all about!

Any chance we'll soon see a fix for the Vigil level 45 quest?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Vigil level 45 quest “The Hatchery” has been broken for the past 3-4 days, making it impossible for players on that story arch to continue any further. It’s been reported many times by many people as a game breaking bug, and we’ve seen a good handful of patches put into the game since then, but still no fix for this quest.

When the quest requirement is completed, nothing happens. It is impossible to finish it. This leaves those of us who have that quest and storyline completely stuck on their character’s progression.

I would love to see this become a slightly higher priority fix…

Kyouhei, this falls under the Third Party Program Policy: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-Third-Party-Programs

Read that and decide for yourself. They won’t vet specific applications.

Looking there, this was listed:

The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.
******************

The answer is no on all accounts (not even a remote maybe is possible there), so this pretty much means this program is safe.

Thieves melt like butter and casters aren’t even worth considering… melee warriors are pretty easy to deal with as well thanks to kiting. Rifle warriors and longbow rangers make me sad but if I can close the gap they are done for.

If they buffed my condition damage or gave me more burst on top of it my character would become the definition of god mode. As much fun as that would be, I would really hate to see engineer become the next thief and have every PvP match consist of 8 engineers and 2 random other classes.

GW2 has a couple of really poorly placed anti-botting/spamming features that I really hope are changed. This would be fine except I’m sending the mails, full of items, to someone who is a MUTUAL contact- we both have each other on our friends list. IF this is true, which there is no evidence of it… it could also have been for 2 others reasons. A) NCSoft wanted to shed the image of this being a primarily Asian MMO for Western audiences, so they figured dropping Cantha would help that OR They weren’t overly thrilled with how Cantha was portrayed in GW1 and didn’t want a repeat of it. I mean, at the end of the day, the Factions story was good but I can’t think of too many players off the top of my head who ever said “Cantha is my favorite place to go!”.

Unbalance between dps and support make pvp not fun.

in PvP

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

Tolmos.8395

It’s designed this way because classes aren’t geared towards teamwork, thus having to take into account “Ok this build might want to be a pure support, this might want to be a pure DPS, etc”, it’s geared around each individual player being capable of standing on their own. To accomplish that, each player is given some attack skills, one or two self heals and maybe a few long cast support skills to help out buddies if they come across them.

It’s not so much “They did it wrong” as it is “They envisioned classes differently”.

Common sense would say this is fine, and the lack of response only confirms that, but I would certainly feel better if someone would officially say “Calm down folks, it just affects graphics so it’s fine”.
