I understand from an implementation perspective how outfits would be the most appealing to the dev team.
But as a consumer? I despise them. I made the mistake of buying 1 outfit and I won’t do that again. MAYBE I would consider it if I could, at the very least, change the head slot item… but a full body suit with no customization at all? There’s nothing about that which interests me
This has come up so many times since the game first launched.
I remember trying to get a friend of mine to play the game with me. He was super interested in it, and wanted to play as a human male warrior. He made his character black, got everything ready to go, logged in extremely excited and hit the first cut scene.
…
He logged out, deleted the character, and made a female norn… wasn’t really as immersed with this character, though, so unfortunately he did not play long.
Since then, the lack of voice options has been a sore spot for me.
Just out of curiosity, how does Glassdoor filter the reviews they get? I mean, we are playing an MMO with quite a few players, at least a small percentage of which are likely to be trolls. How does Glassdoor stop that group from writing fake employee reviews just to mess with the company?
World vs world and structured player vs player are player vs player modes… You may have missed the memo, but world vs world is modeled after realm vs realm, not arena player vs player or guild vs guild.
Last I played, WvW also did not count towards PvP achievements. According to what you are saying, we can now at least get the PvP achievements in WvW since it is a PvP mode, correct?
Yes and no.. PvP achievements are still PvP achievements and you rank up in PvP and get PvP finishers in PvP.. WvW has it’s own achievements and things you unlock with WvW ranks. Both PvP and WvW offer dungeon reward tracks though.
Ahhh ok, makes sense. Thanks for the response!

I can see what a lot of folks are saying about our characters running everywhere, but I will counter with 2 things:
A) How many of you see the same players chilling out in Divinity’s Reach all day, every day, for the like the past 3 years? You think they are still gonna be all lean and fit after basically sitting on their rears that whole time being loafs?
B) Look at what the people in this world eat. You wash down your carbs with more carbs and only take a break from that to eat a tiny amount of fruit mixed probably with something high in fat.
Honestly, if we’re going for realism, I’d say have the characters that have been made in this game would roll like a beach-ball down the hill at the gates of DR if they tripped, considering how little exercise they get and what they would be eating.
Just saying.
Hello! I had a quick question, and can’t seem to find much info online about this.
I have been gone for a while and am currently updating my client to join back into the fray! When I last played the game, WvW was not considered “PvP” by Arenanet. The PvP class tweaks did not affect it, the gear was not normalized so PvE gear disparities were present, and whatever gear/stats you brought with you from the PvE side of the game was all you had for WvW.
Is this still the case, or did it ever get upgraded to PvP status? I always thought this was a bit… strange, and then I heard that some WvW patches were in the works, so I wanted to see what the news was on this front.
Thanks!
This has to be the laziest excuse for a posting I’ve seen in a while. You are speaking ur mind for the sake of speaking ur mind. You already know the answer to ur question, and if you don’t you know nothing about the mode so why don’t you actually play it and then start making threads.
Thanks for this very constructive and well-written answer to my question. This speaks volumes about what sort of community member you are for this game.

Um no, you see when Anet gave out the surveys for GW2 to GW1 players, Gw1 players overwhelmingly voted for " large scale PvP" Anet told us that is what we were actually getting. They said they heard us and were going to make it! Well then we got it and it wasn’t what they said they were going to do in the first place and players were disappointed. I am still asked by former friends from Gw1 if Anet ever came through with large scale PvP. That is actually a legitimate question by many who were promised this long ago, who come and check periodically still in hopes it finally happened. No reason to jump on their case about it. They just get their hope up when they get news.
I’m a member of the old GW1-player crowd who was left a little confused and gets their hopes up about WvW. I was rather disappointed when it came out and was considered a PvE mode, so I keep an ear out for any news about WvW I can hear. Folks in another game started talking about “a major WvW patch”, and I thought this was the one I was waiting for. Poked around online and couldn’t find any info, soooo I figured I’d ask here.
Anyhow, thanks for the replies all! Not quite the answer I was hoping for, but glad to know for sure!

As someone who started Guild Wars the day it released, started Guild Wars 2 at headstart, and has pretty much all the “ooo I want those” shiny armor sets that are not widely available: I would be perfectly happy with everyone getting a shot at them.
Why should me having had the opportunity to play those games when I did make me somehow more “worthy” to have the sets than anyone else? I played the games! I didn’t play the games for those armor sets, I played them to have fun. And I did have fun, because GW1 > Any of its competitors back in its early days, and same with GW2. Getting those armor sets/mini pets/whatever was just a nice little bonus to go along with it.
Nothing about my self worth, my enjoyment of this game, or my enjoyment of life itself is tied to me being a special snowflake with my armors, and I can’t relate to anyone who does feel that way.
So, I have my fingers crossed for all of you who want these armor sets. Hopefully you will get your chance at them. Until then… I won’t lie, I’m going to run around in them and be a special snowflake. =D
GW1 for Windows Phone (and maybe Android and iOS, too) please.
The days of your suffering are slowly coming to an end. Windows phone has been working towards, in the very very near future, being able to run Android and iOS apps. The Android apps are running more smoothly at the current moment, but still doable.
The only thing that would cause you issue is if, for whatever reason, Arenanet chose to make use of Google Play Services in their app. If that happens, you are screwed there. But if they do like most other games and just make a platform agnostic Android app, you could easily just put the APK on your phone and play play play, regardless of what platform it was made for!
I wold love to see GW1 on Android. Our guild still goers back there for festivals.
But as a an ex-3d modeler and programming dabbler I do not think that Android can handle GW1. Even if it cold the load times would kill most data plans and take way too long*. Also Ia m note sure you would have enough memory.*Remember that in instances in GW1 that monsters cold attack you while loading. Also data transfer would kill group play. so you would have to do it solo.
Maybe my kids will find it as a retro game in ten years
Professional Android developer just tossing in my $0.02.
On the topic of transfer speeds: There is a law in the US that states a carrier cannot upgrade 1 zone to the next “G” of mobile speeds until all zones are capable of the previous “G”. So in order for Verizon to move to 4G, they had to support 3G in all their spaces. In order for them to move up to “5G” or whatever they want to call the next iteration, they must support “4G” in all their locations.
This means that most phones in the US on large carriers like AT&T and Verizon will likely soon have at least 4G available to them. That’s an average 5-15 Mbit connection. I used to play Rift on a 3G hotspot regularly and had green latency. Also, I never broke my 2 gig monthly data limit playing only that game.
Load times, and bugs related to them like getting attacked during load, would be an issue that they would need to resolve during the port.
On the topic of graphics: Android runs a particular flavor of OpenGL called OpenGL ES, which is more than capable of handling the workload of a game as old as GW1. Combined with the switch to ART from Dalvik in 5.0 and above, which is far more streamlined and also capable of supporting 64 bit processors and translating any app into 64 bit, I wouldn’t be worried at all on the performance of the game.
Example: Final Fantasy XI is coming to Mobile next year. Obviously Square had to make tweaks to the game to make it capable of running, for instance better handling of assets and a massive reduction in visual distance/texture quality, but if that game can do it, GW1 certainly could!
Also remember that it takes years to put a game out. Assuming they started right now, I wouldn’t expect the GW1 port for at least 2 years. By 2017, I PROMISE you that the 64 bit Android devices available would easily be able to rock the game, and likely much closer to the actual PC version. The Snapdragon 810, minus its horrible overheating issues, could likely run the game as is (albeit laggy). Imagine what the Snapdragon 830 or 840, which would likely be what we’d be looking at come late 2017, would be capable of?
All together… I think it is totally doable.

Welcome to the internet, where everyone is “entitled” if they disagree with you and everyone is mad about something. “Entitled” is the buzz word to use, because it almost always illicit a reaction.
The thing that most MMO players need to learn early on, and usually fail to, is a LOT of people are playing the game with them. Most people say “yea yea, I know that. We all want different things”, but then I still see posts like this.
Think about it: if there are 500,000 active players right now (which is a conservative estimate based on how many boxed copies were sold) and only 0.1% of the playerbase got mad about something and posted about it on forums, that’s 500 people on forums kittening. For the forums, that is a LOT of people posting negatively, most of them likely making multiple posts each.
People throw around the terms “kittenstorm” and “pandemic” when, in actuality, it’s likely not even close. I have, in my 20 years of MMO playing, seen 1 true “kittenstorm”, and that was Blizzard’s WoW forums when they announced Real ID. That is the one and only true explosion of customer rage that I’ve seen on an MMO forum. Everything else? Just another day for an MMO.
EDIT: The second biggest rage I’ve seen was actually on these forums, back when Ascended gear released. Nowhere near the explosion that Real ID caused, but much larger than anything else I’ve witnessed.
… if they ever put GW1 on Android and iOS, I would lose my job. And then my house after I put all my money into the game. And then all my clothes cause I’d sell those instead of the phone Im playing GW1 on to get food to eat.
I would be broke, homeless and naked, but I would have GW1 on my phone so that is still a bright future.
Please release GW1 for mobile.
So, I returned to the game after a hiatus of some time (I was really wicked sick for a while and not gaming at all, couldn’t even sit up) and now I’m faced with Dry Top and rumors of bouncing mushrooms and gliders. My health, low vision, and coordination are such that I have never been very good at PvP (I get by) or jumping puzzles (I suck), but there is so much more to the game, I could alway sidestep most of the jumping puzzles and just muscle my way slowly through progression outside of PvE with caveats to anyone with me.
But let me tell you. I hate Dry Top. Or perhaps, Dry Top hates me. And there is not a single time I have been in Dry Top I don’t hear someone cussing in /m that they are hating their life because of the terrain.
Dear Abbies: should I just pack in the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on this game and find another hobby?
I’ve been away for a while, so I can’t say much about the state of endgame… but is Dry Top really the only thing left to do post 80 in pve? I mean, I know there are other level 80 zones but is that pretty much the end-all be-all zone where most people spend time?
You could probably still enjoy much of the game without needing to jump, but unfortunately it is a pretty integral part of the game. You wouldn’t be completely without things to do, for sure, and I’m sure you could go on to play many more enjoyable hours without ever needing to jump again… but you will certainly be locked out of SOME things, and depending on your personality that could eat away at you more than it would be worth it to play the game.
I hate to say, but that might be a question only you can answer.
Are you still having fun?
Personally I think they will keep things separate and leave as it is to avoid further calls for mix and matching, but that is speculation on my part only.
Understandable. I would hope they could make an exception with the headpiece, since is often treated as it’s own distinct entity more often than other pieces when people are making gear. It’s rare to see someone use the intended set headpiece as opposed to something different, or nothing at all.
Thanks for the answer!
So I saw the mad scientist outfit today and it blew me away; it’s perfect for the look I am going for on my engineer. Well, all but the ridiculous headpiece… which kinda looks like something from “The Fly”.
I’ve grown very fond of how my engineer looks with his current headwear and as a result no outfits can ever really be an option for me at the moment. Regardless of how much I may or may not like them, they are literally worthless to me as an in-game item since the best I could do is just make the head piece invisible, which doesn’t at all suit my needs.
So, that said, I was curious if anyone might have heard something in an Anet post or in some AMA that might allude to custom headwear possibly being in the works to be skinnable with outfits, or if outfits are to remain as they are in their current 1 piece blob form.
Thanks!
I always thought 1 to 80 in GW2 was just right. I grew tired of the leveling system in MMOs years ago (been MMOing for over 15 years at this point… you can only go from 1 to max so many times before it just becomes duuulllll), but they spaces the levels out enough and made them fast enough that I always felt rewarded.
Honestly, hitting 80 is only the start. Even if you never touch another dungeon, 100% map completion will take a good long while on a newly reached level 80 character, and then you have alts, pvp, dungeons, crafting + mat grinding, etc…
No, I can’t say I would support the idea of even slower leveling, and that’s despite me having three 80s and about to hit 80 on my fourth.
I`ll say this – having seen the current state of Warcraft, I`m glad I have a GW2 that hasn’t turned into a facebook game.
That being said, I haven’t actively played GW2 for a long time. I`m a WvW player primarily and I go all out for the tournaments….but it has been almost a year, I think, since the last one.
The pace of content creation in the game is often accurately described as “glacial” and it perplexes me as to why this should be the case.
I believe Anet wastes too much time with iterating stuff and temporary content. There is no reason why SAB should not available 24/7. There is no reason why the crown pavillon should not be available 24/7 (if only just for the queens gauntlet). How often did they change the daily/monthly system? How often did they change the trait system? I think i could continue with this list for a while, but why bother. Everyone knows it by now.
There may not be a reason from our point of view, but for Anet the reason is simple: take away SAB, and players will want for it until it returns. And when it does return? So will the players.
So even though we have this content drought, where they are not producing new content, they can withhold old content and just do temporary releases of it to keep players returning.
As a player, that really sucks. But for a gaming company, it’s a gold mine.
Who needs ascended stats! lets make them the same as exotics!
…but wait… why do I need to grind gold for exotics? Don’t I deserve to get exotic stats with the same amount of effort as rare stats?
Who needs exotics stats! lets make them the same as rare!
…but wait… why do I need to grind gold for rares? Don’t I deserve to get rare stats with the same amount of effort as masterwork stats?
Who needs rare stats! lets make them the same as masterwork!
…but wait… why do I need to grind silver for masterwork? Don’t I deserve to get masterwork stats with the same amount of effort as blue stats?
Who needs masterwork stats! lets make them the same as blues!
…but wait… why do I need to grind gold to level crafting? Don’t I deserve to have 500 crafting in every profession? I thought this game was about fun not grinding?
Who needs to level crafting! level 500 for everyone!
but wait… why do I need to spend time and gold to level my character? Don’t I deserve to be level 80 immediately? Why do I have to grind to level 80?
Who needs levels! instant 80 for everyone!
And that’s pretty much how it worked in GW1. And, funny thing, people liked it that way.
yeah come to think of it your idea isn’t very fun… I think i’ll stick with how the game was meant to be.
Originally it was meant to be closer to the GW1 progression idea. So yeah, i also would rather stick to how it was meant to be before ascended got released.
“people” being the 10-20k active players in GW1.
This game is trying to appease 1-2 million active players.
10-20k players NOW, after a decade and it’s sequel has released. But at its prime?
In April 2009, NCSoft announced that 6 million units of games in the Guild Wars series had been sold
I’d say it did quite a bit better for itself than the above post would imply.
Short answer:
Stale content is the problem, not that we’ve figured out how to do it without passive defenses after doing the exact same fights for going-on 3 years.
An excellent point that I have not yet encountered during these zerker meta discussions. This game is sorely overdue for new content and unique encounters.
The only problem with this point is it doesn’t explain why zerker is the best gear setup for a group of players doing the dungeon for the first time, with no experience. The age of the dungeon is irrelevant if the users have never experienced it.
Whether the first time in a dungeon, or the 100th time in a dungeon, Zerker is hands down the only way to go. Familiarity with the dungeon seems to be wholly irrelevant to that.
On one hand, it makes life easier- the game is no longer about builds or gear optimization, but rather just getting the highest end zerker gear and then making it look like whatever you want.
On the other hand, it seems such a waste to have so many varying armor types and have their only use to be filler and vendor trash
FFXIV just released a test for their new DX11 client…
For a game like Guild Wars 2 I don’t expect to use a 10(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) year old API given the fact that they introduced DX9 with GW Factions after DX8. Can’t be THAT hard to implement.
You are assuming that the step between DX9 and DX10/11/12 is as small as the step between DX8 to DX9.
For anyone who thinks this, it is NOT a small step. DX9 did funky memory management where it basically doubled all needed memory. If a game required 750MB of VRAM, DX9 funkily used up over 1GB. This causes an unnecessary lag that basically takes whatever hardware you throw at it laughs in the hardware’s face.
Even if we don’t get DX12, DX11 would be such a vast improvement FPS wise that it would be night and day. Suddenly those older laptops, which are likely also DX11 capable considering how old it is, would go from 10-15fps on high settings to 25fps+.
I cannot possibly express how amazing DX11 is compared to DX9, and my understanding (though I haven’t seen it myself) is there is an equal gap between DX11 and DX12, though I don’t know how much hardware can currently support it.
Honestly, just adding in DX11 support would be amazing, not even considering the aesthetics aspect.
I was going to buy the GuildWars Trilogy and EoTN so I can get my HoM points, but after hearing about this bug, I think ill wait a while.
Definitely don’t wait on account of that. It’s one thing if you decided you don’t want to do that anymore; that’s fine. But if you really do want to score the points one day, I promise you’ll be working on your HoM long after this bug is fixed even if you start now. You can snag probably 10-15 points easily, but after that it’s a very VERY long winded process, and it gets harder every day that GW2 players come in and start going for HoM stuff (a lot of points can easily be attained via mini pets… those minis get bought up or prices go up, and you’re gonna have a hard time)
Rather than removing the minor stat increase that Ascended gives across the board, wouldn’t it make more sense to just normalize the 2 in WvW, where it actually matters? That way, the players who crafted it will have more power to use in all forms of PvE, and no PvP will be affected by it.
Still boggles my mind that WvW is affected by gear stats to begin with…
I always figured it was there way of stopping in game farmers from getting any real quantity of gems and buying all the BL store stuff for free. By separating them, Anet can increase the price of gems via gold as much as they want without causing people who buy gems and convert to gold suddenly becoming filthy rich overnight.
tl;dr- this way they can modify one without the other.
You are quite correct! Sorry, I forgot to specify that. I am indeed talking about human males.
I primarily play humans as well. Asura do nothing for me visually although I do like them as a race overall.
As for Charr….
For the most part, I lack a proper imagination when it comes to MMOs. I am a human male, so I struggle to identify in a game with anything other than a human male. My character’s looks very rarely deviate from my own. I don’t RP or anything like that, but for some reason I just feel like my avatar should be as close to me as I can get. Almost like “If I were born into this world, I’d probably still be some version of me” sort of thing.
Any other unimaginative wierdos like me out there? =D
As I stand in Divinity’s Reach, looking at female casters holding their staff in a way that screams sage wisdom, I stare longingly… then my gaze returns to my own male caster, who stands with his staff as if he setting himself up for a 20m dash. Nothing about how the male caster holds his weapon says “intellect” or “wisdom”, but more like “HULK SMASH!”.
It’s sad, because my caster characters do actually have staves worth looking at. it’s just that they need to be saves worth looking at on their back, because holding it in their hands looks quite silly in town.
This got me thinking… what if something came out to customize how we stand? Wouldn’t that be amazing? I’d even be willing to buy them off the gem store, just as long as they saved me from looking at my overtense and very out of place elementalist in DR.
EDIT As pointed out below, I forgot to specify that this refers to human males. Sorry!

When they say “Specializations”, I kind of imagine that each class with have multiple paths to pick from and can specialize in those paths. Is that the case, or will there only be 1 per class? Will EVERY ranger go on to be a druid, and EVERY guardian go on to be a “dragon hunter”, or will there be other choices besides those for each class?
Rifle ranger and I’ll be in heaven…
And Engineer, IMO, doesn’t count as a rifle user. Yes, they use the weapons of type “Rifle”, but it’s a shotgun no matter how you look at it.
Permanent Super Adventure Box Contract
I’m embarrassed to say that I excitedly checked the gem store for this item after reading this post, just thinking it was expensive or something…
So I’ve been away a little while and am getting used to the wardrobe system that was implemented. I’ve noticed outfits, many of which look awesome! One thing is that I have a character who I designed around wearing glasses, but I can’t seem to figure out how to show those when I put an outfit on. I found how to disable the outfit head piece, which just leaves the head bare… but really, for the outfit to be of any use to me, I need to figure out instead how to show the glasses!
It’s probably something obvious that I’m missing, so sorry if it’s just some checkbox somewhere lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
They won’t stop with the outfits- it is an unreasonable request to ask. They get a lot of revenue for comparitively little work (compared to armours). The reason why they continue releasing them is because they are very popular.
Asking “Can we have more armour sets as well as more outfits” is a little more likely to happen
We mean single piece outfits, as opposed to sets like the aether blade armor that you can mix and match pieces. skins basically
I agree. I avoid outfits like the plague. There is usually at least 1 part of them I don’t like. On top of that I’ve gotten used to my characters wearing certain Head pieces and outfits don’t let me do that.
I buy sets left and right but outfits I just can’t bring myself to get
I don’t actually get the purpose of outfits. I’ve seen several that I liked pieces of, but was stuck with the entire thing. Also, the inability to use other headpieces, like glasses, kind of kills them for me.
They feel like very limited version of skins. It makes me so sad to see something awesome hit the gem store only to find out that it is an outfit
Wonder if they could make it a checkbox in options? “Show Engineer Backpacks” vs not. If you don’t check it, you get the new stuff. If you do check it, you get the old stuff.
I’d keep that thing unchecked 100% of the time, but for all the people not liking the new designs, it could be an option.
I used to hate the idea of trinity in this game, but after playing it for a long time and then returning a trinity game, I realized just how amazing the trinity would feel in this game, and how much more engaged in the dungeons I would be.
I’m not actually asking for the change, but just pointing out that if the change ever happened, I wouldn’t be against it at all anymore.
Also, A-net. Thank you. It took you 2 years, but still, thank you. Ignore the nay-sayers, they are obviously people who will never be pleased.
I agree with this. Even if some of the new kits (like the bomb) looks silly… I’d rather look a little silly than wear the hobosack =D
I just returned for my monthly check of this thread, to find… GOOD NEWS!
When is this taking effect? I’m super excited! Any concrete dates on when/how?
From release until about 8 months ago I was a pretty regular player, focused primarily on my Engineer. My hatred for the hobosack was so great that I primarily played either turrets, elixirs, gadgets, or some mix in between.
A lot of time has passed since I last played, and I’m pretty out of the loop, so I figured I would ask: are there any decent no kit builds for pvp and pve atm? How are turrets, gadgets and elixirs currently looking?
(edited by Tolmos.8395)
Every month I return to this forum to check and see if this is resolved, and every month it is. For 2 years I’ve done this… 2 long years.
I’m using the hobosack fix as the marker for when I end my hiatus and return to GW2. Sometimes I think “I should go back before then!”, but then I see this thread trucking strong after 2 years of “We’ll get to it when we get to it”, and think “nah. Not yet.”.
The wait continues.
As a player and paying customer, I feel alienated and disrespected (and have, for some time now) – they know this is a problem, and they still brush us off, only to implement things like customizing the bird that brings you mail, but only if you have a level 71+ character on your account.
I agree about everything you said, but there is a huge difference between those two suggestions, you know.
The kit issue being fixed doesn’t directly bring some more money to Arenanet.
That’s as simple as that.
In my case, that’s not necessarily true. When I played GW2, I was a big gem spender. Aesthetics are a huge part of the game for me, and liking how my characters look really makes or breaks an MMO.
The engineer is my favorite class, but I’m simply tired of playing non-kit based engies. I ran turret for a while, then elixir, then turret/elixir… about out of options now. But the kits pretty much destroy the aesthetic I’m running, so I kind of refuse to use them.
The end result is that I’ve been on a GW2 hiatus for about 5 months. I didn’t really intend for it to last this long, but I’ve been using the day they fix kits as a landmark to when I return.
I imagine I’m a pretty rare case, but I can at least say that people like me + people who aren’t buying back slot items because their engineer can’t use them should at least account for some cash in their pocket, I would think.
People calm down, are you calm now?
Good, now start preparing party hats for next anniversary of this thread!
Holy crap… in just a few more months we’ll be at the 2 year mark! 0_o
Man… time flies when Devs pretend you don’t exist. >_>
I’d buy that for a dollar!
…
Sorry, had to.
I like buffs to Rangers — make them almiiiighty! — and you say, “No, leave them alone, handle [this other profession].”
And in the distance, from the long forgotten dregs of the Engineer forums, faint whispers of the word “Hobosack” can be heard…
The first time I saw them, I thought they granted 20 levels. I was so happy, dude lol.
Then I realized the truth, and it was sad.
At this point they just clutter up my bank, in case Anet ever decides to pop out and say “lol APRIL FOOLS! They really aren’t as useless as we tricked you into believing! Here you go!”
