I’m surprised there is no trade option, considering it was the primary method of sale in GW1. I figured it would at least exist here.
I would also love to see a “Focus Fire” button for engineers, that forces the turrets to attack your current target instead of… well, whatever looks good. Currently the tilde key, or “swap weapon” for everyone but engineers and elementalists, is unused. That would be an excellent key to assign that command to, so that if you are targetting something and press it, all of your turrets will then focus their fire on that target.
Turreteers, as it stands now, are generally looked upon as being an extremely subpar build by many within the engineer community. This bothers me greatly, as the main reason I wanted to play Engineer to begin with WAS the turrets.
I would like to stress that, at least at my current level, I do not feel turrets are inherently weak or need a buff. They actually feel halfway fine to me right now. What DOES need a change, not so much a buff but a reworking, is the mobility of the turrets.
With the current system, if you pick up a turret it is healed to 100% health and immediately goes on cooldown. These cooldowns can range from 20 seconds to 1 full minute. That’s not pretty, especially when you are dealing with escort missions and the like. This makes turrets situational, at best, meaning a turreteer will be forced to spend a great deal of time not using turrets. I can’t think of another class that has to change its entire build just to suit particular circumstances.
SO, my suggestion is this: Have the full cooldown only go into effect when your turret is destroyed, and instead a 10 second cooldown go into effect when the turret is picked up. To offset abuse, have the turrets NOT heal upon pickup. At all. If you pick the turret up at 50% health, you place it at 50% health. If you want a full heal, either repair it or self destruct it (which would put it on the same cooldown it has now, so nothing would change there).
This would increase mobility for Turreteers without increasing their damage output or too greatly increasing the survivability of the turrets. The 10 second cooldown is in place so that you can’t just pick up and drop turrets quickly, using that to avoid incoming damage to the turrets.
Having PvPed in MMOs for the past decade, I can’t imagine relying on WASD alone to move. I use them in conjuction with holding the right mouse button to be able to have total and extremely quick control over my character.
That said, I do have some issue with the targetting in the game. Not gamebreaking, but it does frustrate me sometimes. Luckily, I can tab target back quickly enough. BUT… I would like it if they made it a little harder to actually lose your target and go targetless.
I don’t have an issue with a lack of quivers the same way I don’t have an issue with the lack of any loading animation for guns. It’s like not worrying about how your character can carry a full suit of platemail and 10 greatswords in their backpack and still run around and jump
This is part of why I wanted to play the Engineer. He actually HAS a backpack… with lots of little bags on it too.
For the first time, it actually looks like I can carry all the crap I’m carrying.
Healing in PvP is terrible and should be removed.
Same goes for buffing in sPvP.You guys enjoy the healing system because you’ve never fought alone against several players. In other words, zergers always win, no matter how good you are.
I played many games for years now, and GW2 has the worst PvP, hands down.
<————— WoW is that way. Have fun!
yeah nice logic;
someone doesn’t like the pvp? they’re from wow!
someone zergs? they’re from wow!
someone wants a healer? they’re from wow!
Someone comes to GW2 and doesn’t like how PvP works here so they demand it becomes like WoW? HRM… wonder where they come from. You’re right, no way it’s WoW- must be EVE Online.
Haha just pulled of winning a 1v3 with this xD
But wait! I thought I heard “skilled” players saying that’s impossible in this game because of downed state! You must be fibbing, sir.
=D
<————— WoW is that way. Have fun!
WoW has one of the most advanced PvP system, Focus target, Smart casting.
And there are no aggressive monsters in BGs that hit you as hard as players. (dude, those kitten sharks ..)I will definitely go back to WoW if they don’t do anything to change the utter kitten that GW2 PvP is.
I loled. Like, actually laughed out loud. Thank you for that, these forums posts were getting too serious. =D Nice to see someone skilled in the art of sarcastic humor.
Now I don’t know about you guys.. but in other games I could pull of 1v2’s and sometimes even 1v3’s if playing against players that were not.. ‘at my level’ so to speak..
This reads similarly to a freshmen in college who is failing a class saying “When I was in highschool I made all As! Something must be wrong at this University!”.
This game is difficult. Probably more difficult than most players on this board have messed with before (but not all. There are far more difficult games out there). On top of that, it’s different and has only been out 3 weeks. If you are expecting to be able to roflstomp people in this game because you can in another, simpler, one then you are looking at it wrong. Does it mean you’ll never be able to? No. If you could do it in another game, you’ll be able to do it here. I’ve about gotten to that point myself, through an ungodly amount of WvWing.
It takes practice. Sure, we have TONS of practice at other games, but this game has new features we have to take into account for and that requires us to actually learn those systems. And I love that. I would hate to have this just become another WoW-revisited PvP clone.
I can name a few games with “harder pvp” then Gw2:
1. Tibia – Die? Loose 1-5 levels and 10% chance to drop any equipped item + you drop entire inventory.
2. EvE online – Loose your ship, loose your Implants (This can range from barely anything up to several hundred US Dollars.)
3. Age of Conan – It still is the best PvP MMO, it just lacked a half decent gamedeveloper.. (Now it also lacks players..)
Gw2 has the potential to be the best pvp game ever made! WvWvW is awesome!
So what is it that Gw2 PvP needs changed to truly become the best?
*Global unit collision
*Removal of downed system
*Enemy names enabled in WvW
Never heard of Tibia, but I have played extensively both EVE and AoC. I agree with EVE, disagree with AoC. It was neat in theory, but a spamfest in reality. I was thinking more in line with Mortal Online or (depending on the zerg level of the fight) Darkfall.
As for the list- I disagree with the removal of the downed system 100%. I agree 100% with the collision detection, LOVE that and hate that it’s only an optional thing. And… don’t understand why the names matter. Honestly, the only thing not showing our names does is stop us from getting rage tells after we wtfpwn someone >_>
Think of the down state as the last few % of your health, instead of standing your on the ground.
This is a pretty big feature of the gameplay, adapt or find your game elsewhere. Seriously, stop going into other games and trying to change things. This isn’t a mere bug or other type of thing that NEEDS fixing, this is a simple case of,,, “I don’t like it, change it”.
lol that’s how it goes. WoW players go to other games, turn the games into WoW, then cry because its a “WoW Clone”. Luckily, ArenaNet isn’t quite so dumb…
In answer to the OP: We are NOT shooting arrows, we are shooting HAIRPINS. That’s right! Watch your toon, as they reach into their hair and pull out the hairpin, firing it rapidly at the enemy.
It’s a new perspective on bows, you see. Long gone are the days when scraggly, unkempt warriors and archers fired long and bulky arrows at their enemy. These days, our much more fashion savvy Rangers launch their stylish hairpins at enemies with ease and determination.
It’s not about feeling strong, it’s about feeling PRETTY!
You guys enjoy the down system because you’ve never fought alone against several players. In other words, zergers always win, no matter how good you are.
What he said ^
Im sorry to say this to you all but.. There is not a single skilled pvp’er that likes the downed system. And now we are not talking strategy wise, just cause you can adapt to a mechanic does not make it “good”.
It’s amusing you say that, since most people on here are QQing about hating the downed system because they CAN’T 1v2, while those who love the downed system are raving about it because they CAN…
I dunno about you, but despite the self-proclaimed “skill” of those hating on the system, the actual arguments imply quite the opposite to me.
Now I don’t know about you guys.. but in other games I could pull of 1v2’s and sometimes even 1v3’s if playing against players that were not.. ‘at my level’ so to speak..

Unfortunately, Sulmith is right. I 100% agree with the OP on liking the idea of not being able to brute force a boss, but the truth is the number of skilled players in the game actually capable of doing that are… slim right now. Most players are coming from Themepark MMOs like WoW and getting their butts handed to them in dungeons. Increasing the difficulty at all would just end up causing them to either fill up the forums with QQ more than they have now, or just flat out leave.
Chances are the answer is no. A) Because GW1 did it B ) Because it is a major selling point of the game C) Because a lot of people love it.
Individual player skill now comes into account… and unskilled players hate that. All the “skilled” raiders from other MMOs are coming here and suddenly being accountable for their own skill, their own survival, and not being able to be carried by ANYONE through the instance. If they suck, it shows. Now all the self proclaimed "skilled’ raiders are practically being called out publicly by the game mechanics and… well, they hate it.
Personally? I love this system. It’s an amazing design and I’m glad to know it won’t ever change. WoW, however, does still have the trinity for anyone who just can’t stand this system.
I love it as well. It really adds a new perspective. A know a lot of folks coming from WoW are having a hard time dealing with there being more to killing someone than just “pew pew enemy hits the ground and disappears”. It makes WvW feel a lot more strategic, trying to help downed allies while still keeping yourself alive in the process.
EVERYONE has downed state, so it doesn’t give anyone an advantage. That makes it perfect as it is.
I guarantee the same people begging to see downstate removed would, upon having it removed, start QQing with endless fervor screaming that GW2 PvP is now just like WoW PvP. =D
As long as it’s an opt-in only thing, where you decide if you want your name published or not. I’d prefer not to get rage tells from people because I killed them in an “annoying” way in PvP…
Yea, I was afraid of that.
Unfortunately I’m not a big fan of kits at all, but I guess at the end of the day turrets are more of a novelty and the kits are the primary focus of the class.
I’ve been playing an engineer because I LOVED the concept of a turret dropping class, but the cooldown times have been ATROCIOUS on these things. Reading up on various fan forums, the majority of engineers have said that turreteer really is just a neat newb build but any engineer worth anything will not be running one later on.
Are there any traits or anything that I can take to reduce the cooldown of my turrets at all? Because this is killing me. >_> It’s fine for most things, keeping them alive isn’t a problem, but having them go on cooldown when I pick them up to relocate is murder.
