No news on it, and the community is probably split an even 50/50 on folks who want it/don’t care if it’s added and folks who don’t want it.

That said… while it would be an awesome cash shop option, I don’t see it happening. Ever. The main reason being that a race change would require an unbelievable amount of changes to take place. Your personal story, for one thing. What about all those choices you made during the story? That alone is enough to shoot the idea right out of the water.

The elite skills, armor, etc might be a little easier but the story? Yea, I can’t see them doing it for that reason alone.

I doubt we’ll see open world PvP in this game. They put a great deal of effort into WvW to try to create a middle ground for those of us who want open world PvP and those who do not. So I can’t see GvG happening, unfortunately.

As for dueling- so many people have been begging for this that I can actually see it come to pass. It’s definitely a neat feature to have, and would be awesome (especially for RP servers).

The End Game Debate

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tolmos.8395

Everyone is in such a hurry… how many of you have played MMOs from release? World of Warcraft… Rift… neither of these had large end games when they first released, and yet now their endgames are huge.

Game developers cannot be held accountable for players who decide to rush a game to the end. It is physically impossible to keep those types of players constantly amused. I am about to reach 500 hours on my account’s /age and I STILL have things to do. A lot of things. I’ve taken my time, enjoyed myself, etc. I play a LOT, so I’ve logged those 500 hours quickly. Someone who plays in a similar method but logs less time? They’ll be at this for a year+. THAT is the type of player that MMO devs cater to.

Every MMO sees these types of post. Someone who rushes to the very end as quickly as possible, completes everything, and then is surprised when there are consequences to those actions. And in the end? I’m sorry to say, but they will get no sympathy from anyone except those in the same boat. The rest of us will continue enjoying the mounds of content ahead of us for many more hours to come, until the endgame content is released. And even then, we probably won’t be finished with what we’re doing now.

I remember hearing that this would come into effect at some point, and I’ve been greatly looking forward to it. I know a few people IRL that play on another server that I’d like to dungeon with, though we’re both content with our current servers so we won’t be switching any time soon. I’ve been waiting around for it but haven’t heard any information recently, so I was curious if anyone had maybe noticed an Arenanet post or a blog that might have contained more info recently?

GW2 needs less focus on currencies, more on randomness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tolmos.8395

I am very happy that the game focuses more on currencies than drop rates. After years of playing games where you could put in 2-3x the amount of effort a currency grind would require and STILL not get your item… and after seeing the terribad drop rates that GW2 has to offer for its RNG, I can honestly say that it would break my heart to see them implement yet more of the RNG that the majority of the game’s players seem to despise.

I’d like to see a far more currency based system, to be completely honest. To know how much work needs to be done and what I can do to get it.

In this regard, Arenanet did things right.

forced… this word you use…. I do not think it means what you think it means.

From the depths of my heart, Thank you.

Every-time i see someone writing the word “forced” the only thing that comes to mind is that this person is lacking a significant portion of their brain.

I think the exact same thing when I see someone ignorantly assume the word doesn’t apply, when it does.

forced, forc·ing, forc·es
1. To compel through pressure or necessity: I forced myself to practice daily. He was forced to take a second job.

If your goal requires that you complete the monthly, then whatever requirements they set for that monthly you are forced to do in order to achieve your goal. It’s a very naive and downright juvenile view of the word to assume that it only means being a non-optional situation. Anyone who believes that honestly has a lot of growing up to do, because the real world is going to teach them very differently very quickly.

Engineer turret targetting- epitome of stupid

Tolmos.8395

If nothing else, I’d love to see the AI updated to check 3 things:

A) Is my target aggressive? Centaur camps are the perfect example of this- I don’t want my turrets shooting centaur supplies while I’m getting my face melted by an actual centaur

B) Is my owner being attacked? If so, kill whatever is attacking my owner.

C) Am I damaging my target? If the turret’s attacks are not reducing the target’s health even remotely, then it means something is wrong. Either the target is invulnerable, or it’s being blocked by something, etc. In that case, the turret should find a new target (if available. otherwise keep doin what it’s doing)

Things like this remind me of Aion. In Aion you can slot your weapons and armor with additional stats… the catch is, the slotting process can fail. And if it fails, every slot on that item is cleared out. So if you buy 4 SUPER expensive stat items to slot your weapon with, and you successfully put in 3 slots and fail the 4th… you lose all 4 items.

What is it with Asian MMOs and their super crazy RNG gambles?

In game trades

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

Tolmos.8395

How the heck did you get scammed? If you played the trust game with mail, then that was a dumb move. The reason there is no trade system is because there’s no need for one, you can see the lowest buying prices and highest selling prices on the Tradepost.

You see, some of us have this thing called “friends”. These “friends”, or people that we play with often and may/may not know IRL, tend to like to share things between each other. And generally, that does not involve putting the item they want to share on the tradepost then having the other person go immediately buy it from the tradepost.

Strange concept, I know… but there is definitely an allure to having these “friends”, and in that situation there is definitely a need for a trade mechanic, especially with items in bulk. The mail mechanic, which involved 5 items per mail, a maximum of 2 mails every few minutes due to “message suppression”, does not in any way make up for the lack of one of the most basic MMO features.

I only agree if they strip commander from everyone who has gotten it so far and refund them their 100g back. I’m getting tired of seeing changes that favor people who rushed to the end early. There would be nothing fair about having 300-400 commanders who bought their way to their position and then forcing everyone who comes after them to work their fingers to the bone in WvW to get the same thing.

Don't create new classes.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

Tolmos.8395

Asking them not to add new classes is about as absurd as asking them to change core gameplay mechanics that act as the selling point of the game. The Guild Wars series has a history of adding new classes with every stand-alone expansion (thus EotN didn’t count), and it’s fans have come to expect this. This is a selling point of the series and its expansions.

Sorry, but in this case- resistance is futile.

The problem is the game isn’t like GW1 at all- it’s WoW without any of the variety, without anything but damage dealing (with a dodge mechanic replacing tanks, and a downed mechanic/GY zerg rushing replacing healing), and without any reward.

I disagree here, mainly because the grind isn’t necessary. This is a horizontal progression: we’re grinding purely for the looks. In WoW, you have to grind to be competitive and stay on top of gear stats. So at the end of the day, for GW2, the grind is pretty much optional.

Atm I’m not sure what else you would do endgame PvE, but it is optional. And I’m sure later many more options will be presented for us.

A) It may be at this time but they are all or at least 5 of them being macro’ed into one button, you can surf the Rift class forums and there are nothing but builds where people list their macros and rotations for max DPS so I know you are wrong there.

And every time someone points out macros, there’s a large number of people who jump all over the poster for using them and tell them to learn to play. So yes, I know I’m right there.

I like the fact that the OP posted Everquest and Rift in his list of games, obviously he did not play both of them as both games in their first years had less than the suppose 20-50 hotkeys he says. In Everquest you had 7 spell gems for a long time and then they added some macro commands for some AA skills several years later, with Rift sure you had the option to fill your hotbars will all your skills, but if you was not macro’ing all of them into 1 button and spamming it you where not doing good dps.

A) I play Rift with GW2. It’s my second MMO. My cleric’s DPS rotation is over 20 skills long
B) If you have macro in Rift to make DPS, you’re doing it wrong. If you macro in Rift in PvP, you are REALLY doing it wrong.

This.

Normal rotation in other games usually is exactly 3-5 skills and maybe 2 cooldowns per spec.

Those twenty other skills are ment for other specs or are pointless.

0_o what games have you been playing? I mean… I guess if you don’t care about decent DPS, aren’t a healer and aren’t a tank (aka- you just like to do something on the side while watching a movie) you would only use 3-5 skills… or maybe at level 10 you would. But I can say all the AAA MMOs I’ve played in the last decade my rotations were well over 10 buttons.

If you want to make a post about a suggestion you have, at least try to make a plausible one. Else you are just a troll and won’t ever be taken seriously by anyone, including the devs.

Because it’s completely unheard of for MMOs to add new skills with expansions.

This must be your first, I take it?

Adding new skills/weapons. Yes. Completely changing the core mechanic of the game. No.

Swappable skills would not be a core mechanic change. We can already do that with slot skills. Whats to stop them from doing that with weapon skills as well? Give me 20 pistol skills on my dual pistol engineer and let me pick 5 for the situation I need, swapping them out of combat like slot skills. That alone would alleviate 90% of my boredom with combat.

I probably play MMOs for way longer than you…

I don’t think anyone here ever played GW1… I went from GW1 to WoW to GW2, and I’ve got nothing to complain about this. I have 45 buttons on-screen on my hunter, not including the pet-bar.

Its because we came from GW1. If the 5 skills were swappable it would be a different matter. In GW1 we had what… over 300-400 skills to choose from?

And many were extremely situational skills. And people only ever got skills that they specifically wanted. I know I did :P I looked at every skill, researched everything and only went and got what I needed..

Oh absolutely. VERY situational. And because of that many of us had 15-25 builds we used. In any given night I would change builds 10-12 times. Every zone, every NPC type… there was an appropriate and most effective build for it. It was never the same 8 skills… it was a different 8 skills every time I walked out the door.

I just have to say… my turrets are stupid. Don’t me wrong, I love my turrets. 1-80 on em, and they’ve helped me be unbelievably successful in both 1v1 and 1v2 PvP situations in WvW… but man, they can be DENSE sometimes.

Perfect example: I just got done fighting the champ modniir ulgoth in Harathi Highlands. Big event. Anyhow, my turrets available targets are: A) the big bad modniir champ that keeps doing horrible things to me and costing me tons of silver in waypoint returns or the INVULNERABLE air elementals he summons to knock me around.

Since I’m making this post QQing about their targetting choices, I’m sure you can figure out which targets they chose. :-P The only use they played for me the whole fight was if he got close enough for me to self-destruct them for a little extra damage.

I would give anything for this next content patch to see a hotkey that orders our turrets to attack our targets… an F5 skill maybe? I can’t express what a help it would be.

when we talk about modern automobiles we generally dont even mention the model-t even though it was the forefather of all modern consumer vehicles.

people talk about modern vehicles that people know and understand.

in a similar fashion when we talk about modern mmo games we generally just go straight to the 1000lb gorilla of wow.

why bring up the old ancient that only old timers remember?

we also dont compare features from other cars and call its a Mercedes clone. as if Mercedes invented bluetooth or all wheel drive. We all have an understanding that the market and demands evolve thus automobile companies evolve to please the market and what they come to expect.

so this also applies to mmos.

And yet if 50 brand new movies all appeared over the course of the next year featuring a mage, a couple of short guys and a few warrior/ranger types all trying to battle their way to a mountain for some purpose or another, we wouldn’t get bored of watching them and call them Lord of the Rings Clones?

There is a firm difference between a utility tool and an entertainment mechanism. Watching something, playing something, listening to something… it’s all entertaining the first 10-20 times, but after a while it gets old. And when it gets old, the value of that entertainment mechanism becomes worthless. Cars, on the other hand, remain useful even when we tire of them. Their purpose isn’t to entertain us, it’s to transport us.

MMOs are entertainment mechanisms, not cars. If every MMO clones each other’s features, such as the God awful holy trinity system that only 3 or 4 people on these forums seem to miss, then we’ll get mighty tired of them really quickly and they will lose their value entirely.

The hatchery bugged?

Posted by: Tolmos.8395

If I remember right the bug is because the game checks to see if those that are found are still alive and also it needs to be done in the exact order it shows on your log. If either of these conditions are met before all are found, it bugs up and progress is halted. For some reason all the named Skritt cannot die until the very end. Some of them can’t be ressed either when I last did it.

I attempted the mission again. This time I cleared the entire room of all enemies first, then rezzed the 2 downed Skritt when there was nothing that could possibly kill them alive. I then returned those 2 Skritt to Tchkik… who did nothing. Unfortunately, the method of keeping all of the Skritt alive did not work for me.

I went back and did it a second time. This time I cleared the room of all aggressive mobs, then made sure to be very specific in the order I rezzed the 2 skritt + talked to Tchkik. The one closest to the door first → the one in the middle of the room → talk to Tchkik. Again, no change.
