Ranger is now the overpowered class – someone needs to nerf them ASAP!
I’m reluctant to defend the game, though I do enjoy it. The last time I defended the game I received a warning from a moderator and a threat that my account will be locked. I realized it’s not up to me to argue with the slew of naysayers. Moderators seem to encourage the negativity here. I’m surprised Vayne hasn’t been perma banned and people like Nick and Dante aren’t given some kind of special forum status.
What positive functions would this have on the over all game?
Lots – like someone else said, it validates a players opinion / claim on the forums. In Diablo 3, some players provided advice or guides on aspects of the game. It was easy to see if they knew what they were talking about by checking their stats. That’s my main reason for wanting it.
I’d pay $100 to have Hayden Panettiere’s voice in this game, maybe more.
In Diablo 3 you can click on a forum poster’s name and view their achievements / gear via a 3D model of their character. It also lists their stats and other characters they have. EverQuest 2 had something like that as well, whereby you could use a webpage to check out other players or guilds. Does anyone else think this would be a great feature to have on the GW2 forums? It’s basically ‘out of game’ Character inspection. EQ2 ranked players by a lot of different categories as well, such as wealthiest, most damage, died the most, highest critical hit etc..
The fastest way to get money in this game is via the trade post. All you need is a credit card and you could be rich within minutes (provided you have funds in your bank of course!).
I’ve only tried a thief, elementalist, warrior (all to 80) and now a ranger. The ranger is by far the most powerful, in PvE anyway. I’m not sure if they’re the best kept secret in this game or if I just play it a lot better than the other classes, but they are awesome.
I wonder if people would still like raiding if the gear you got from it was just a unique style and not something with better stats.
Maybe they should introduce raids that allow you to get your Legendary earlier. Parts to it drop in the raid as loot. They’d have to make it so the raid is challenging but doesn’t require the trinity system. This could be simulated via clever zone mechanics, such as a bubble that the tank stands in to receive a boost to defense, a bubble the ‘healers’ stand in to do more group healing etc..
I’d like to know how the players would continue the story from where it ends. Try to avoid putting spoilers in this thread.
Here’s a quick overview of the story so far. Guild Wars Wiki story
The story would likely introduce another Elder Dragon. What kind of missions do you want to embark on this time, before finally meeting the next dragon?
Every time I read a thread from the community requesting a certain Dev to return I can’t help but think the OP is the Dev in question.
You wake up in a hospital with an IV needle attached to your arm. You’ve lost most of your body weight and reek of urine and feces because you refused to leave the game to go to the toilet or eat.
Bad guys don’t ask permission.
How dare he suggest that a game is ‘just a hobby’! This is real people. Every day Tyria is under attack and we need every man, woman and child to defend it to the death. Out there in the ‘real world’ we don’t have centaurs running around burning towns and yet he has the audacity to question why we prioritize this game over real life? He must be on drugs or something. The Government should employ us to keep the world of Tyria safe. While I’m staying up to ungodly hours in the morning to do my part, there are millions of people all over the world who are doing nothing to save Tyria. What’s my reward? A handful of silver coins that CANNOT be used to purchase groceries (try it, you’ll see). A seraph guard relieves for me a few minutes so I can finally go to the toilet, then I quickly come here to see if I have any new assignments and I’m subjected to reading this?? Outrageous!
Seriously though, it’s good to know I’m normal.
Are you male or female?
I don’t know how complete strangers can have such an effect on you. Who really cares what they think, if you like the game and they don’t then their opinion really is irrelevant. The Devs have probably read every bit of criticism a thousand times over, they probably even laugh about certain forum posters and their predictable reaction to content before it even comes out.
What they need on the forums is a ‘block’ or ‘ignore’ feature so we can filter out the people we don’t want to read anything from. ArenaNet could probably monitor that and if a particular user had a high number of ‘ignores’ they might want to investigate why.
Maybe it should work like this:
Player one: plays every day, contributes to the game (buys gems), has 5000 achievement points
Player two: plays every day, has 6000 achievement points
Player three: plays once a week, buys gems, has 1400 achievement points
Player four: plays twice a week, has 1400 achievement points
Player one receives an additional 25% bonus chance to obtaining rare (valuable) loot.
Player two receives an additional 20% bonus chance to obtaining rare (valuable) loot.
Player three receives an additional 5% bonus chance to obtaining rare (valuable) loot.
Player four receives nothing.
Yes, it’s still RNG but at least it rewards those that contribute and/or those that put in an effort with a higher chance to get something vs those that don’t play very often or contribute to the game. Would that help solve your problem or do you just want a specific reward for your efforts? If so, maybe they need to give players who achieve over 5000 achievement points the reward of the precursor weapon for the Legendary. That way, instead of guilds walking players who rarely play through hard raids to get them a legendary, they have to earn it themselves by playing the game a lot.
I’ve played an Elementalist, Warrior and Thief to 80 and I don’t like any of them all that much. I started a Ranger and realized it was the perfect class for me. I love it. They’re all very different.
If I were a game designer who was expected to produce content that made the company I work for money, I’d probably monitor what people are doing and invest my energy into what the majority wanted. Oh wait, that’s what ArenaNet are doing. I guess you don’t fit the description of the majority.
PvE end game does it for me. A smart person could never get bored with all that’s on offer.
By making it so you have to complete x number of kills in Krytan, players head to Krytan to complete that part of the daily. Suddenly, players that might have been scattered all over Tyria are now playing together in Krytan. There is a method to the madness. To make them harder they could make the gathering more specific, like gather 5 blood oranges. You’d really have to know the different zones to achieve that one.
Some people like cats. Like the young lady in my short story below:
Every night before she would fall asleep, Cindy would lie on her bed and gently play with her kitten. It was always the same, the kitten was timid at first – shy to the touch, but the more she played with her kitten the more her kitten enjoyed it.
You see? Cindy likes her kitten.
I basically level characters. I don’t expect too much either, for the same reasons as you. My mother always said ‘only stupid people get bored, they don’t know how to entertain themselves’. The game has a lot of ways to have fun. I’ve noticed that a lot of players today race as fast as they can to max level then spend the next six months complaining on the forums about the lack of things to do. I call these players ‘premature ejaculators’ (probably got filtered) They don’t understand foreplay.
I like it, maybe this game isn’t for you and you are playing it wrong.
+1 especially the part about the RNG boxes. Great job!
I won’t play a Charr because they’re too big for the tight spaces the jumping puzzles put you in. It’s too hard to get the camera in the right place to see where you need to jump next. Their bodies take up too much of the screen. They’re cool though, they remind me of the Krogan from Mass Effect.
Hey team, another great player chiming in here. I’m also good at bowel movements, brushing my teeth, making my bed, eating, walking, watching TV (some people claim to be good at this, but I’m better), talking to people, posting on forums, turning on appliances, writing my name (I’m an expert at this actually), singing songs, watching clouds in the sky, fighting (I’m awesome at fighting, no one in the world could possibly defeat me), driving my car (I could be a nascar world champ if I wanted to), throwing a ball, sleeping (I get a better night’s sleep than anyone else I know), waiting for expansions to computer games I like (I have immense patience), socializing, picking up girls (yes, I’m better at this than you) – actually the list goes on and on and on – I’m just really, really good and it’s no wonder I’m especially good at GW2, probably the best player that has ever played this game.
me sea waht u say yet me no get – u can play whit friend in dis game
You are all saying the same wrong thing.
I don’t think anyone will be able to convince Devata on this one. He thinks he’s entitled to something and that’s all that really matters.
I’m against it. If you played DCUO you’d be against it as well. Every patch, update or minor fix had to run through the Playstation online team before it could be rolled out. PC and PS3 had to be rolled at at the same time and updates that were readily available on the PC were always delayed due to the Playstation online testing team. They had high res textures but wouldn’t release them on the PC because the PS3 couldn’t handle them. The PS3 had more subs, so they prioritized the requests for the PS3 over the PC requests. If GW2 goes to the Playstation I’ll look for another game that is PC only.
Good job – you should work on some boots to complete the outfit.
That’s pretty clever, though I’d rather see two snake heads on either side of the cross guard – opposing each other with fangs bared and forked tongue tasting the air. Kind of like the dagger attached, except with the snake heads curled to face to the blade. Also, more color on the hilt and pommel would be great!
^ you rock! Great job.
Dany is easily the best character in Game of Thrones. Here’s a picture of her from the show:
See if you can make a character that resembles Dany. My attempt is below.
You make a good point. Either sell the stuff and make some cash or complete the monthly. Are the laurels worth the money your losing by salvaging? Depends on what your character needs I guess.
Yeah same. I salvage everything and I play around 3-4 hours per day. By the end of the month the only chance I have to finish the monthly is via salvaging and each month I end up spending a fair chunk of money on salvageable items from the trade post just to make up the numbers. I guess it stimulates the economy, which is why they have the number so high.
Does anyone else feel that salvaging 500 items per month is too high? I feel that 300 would be more achievable. I understand why it’s there, people buy the extra stuff from the trade post to make up the numbers, but still… am I the only one who feels 500 is a bit extreme?
I never really played WoW (free trial, that’s it), but I spent six years in FFXI. Can anyone explain to me like I’m a six year old what exactly raiding in an MMO is? Is it essentially a dungeon run with more people?
Raiding is exactly that. A dungeon run designed for more people than a standard dungeon group.
Raids are supposed to generally be harder content and in most games they’re more rewarding. This is where it gets tricky.
In almost every game with hard raids, only a small percentage of the gaming population ever finishes those raids. People compete for the honor to be the first guild to get it done. It tends to become very competitive, even within some guilds, to get a spot on the “A” team.
There are several problems I have with raids, having to do with dividing people in the game into haves and have nots. In a game without a trinity, I’m not sure how you’d handle a raid anyway, since the more people you have the easier stuff tends to be to zerg. It would certainly be a challenge to design.
What ends up happening in most guilds is you don’t have enough good people to do raids, and so you have to guilt people into showing up for raids and then carry them through it. Raids are hard…but only for the people running them.
I dislike what raids have done to the MMORPG community. Games that center on raids tend to be more about the MMO part and less about the RPG part. It’s all about boss fights and loot and beating your head against a problem until you solve it. That’s not RPGing to me. There are a million games out there with raids. Guild Wars 2, if it does implement them, should be very careful about how they do it.
^ this is the correct answer.
Some developers embed code into their games to monitor what players are doing. If the majority of players are doing choice ‘A’ then they cater upcoming content for more choices like ‘A’.
ArenaNet seem to be doing something like that. If a car dealership wants to make profit, it tends to order the car that it sells the most. In fact, most businesses operate by this concept.
I’m relatively new to the game and I might be wrong in saying this, but a friend of mine said she received more ecto by wearing lots of magic find gear and being in Southsun with the magic find bonus on her when she salvaged her gear. She was getting around 13 ecto for every 10 items she salvaged. Have you tried that?
Needless to say… Pants were moistened…
So.. if they build it, you will come?
I’ll buy it when it comes out. This game is great, I really enjoy it.
8 months is not new. Period.
I can’t think of a single MMO that was particularly good at 8 months.
RIFT was perfect since day one.
Does that include the MAJOR security breach launch week that saw THOUSANDS of accounts hacked in very short order?
Does that include the first major world event Rift did for which they had to apologize?
Here’s a better question… do you remember when Rift launched and every second or third day they’d completely change the skills in skill trees? It was ridiculous.
If it was perfect, they probably wouldn’t have had to do that.
Do you remember when everyone wakittenting the planarite cap and there was nothing to spend planarite on, so no one was doing zone wide events?
Do you remember before the dungeon finder was launched, how many people were complaining that there was no group finder.
Do you remember how many people complained about getting knocked off their mounts, and being slowed when trying to run places, until Trion fixed it.
You must have a short memory.
lol this is one of the best counter arguments I’ve read on these forums. Check and mate.
Adventure seeker on an empty street,
Just an alley creeper, light on his feet
A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt
With the pain and anger can’t see a way out,
It ain’t much I’m asking, I heard him say,
Gotta find me a future move out of my way….
That last screenshot you posted Auesis is awesome, it looks like promotion artwork for the game – well done!
Here’s my thief, Kaitona:
I’d like to hear from an experienced Warrior player on this. It seems like a slow, big damage attack. I use it whenever it’s available but I have other attacks that are comparable to it in damage. Is it just another attack? I’d rather it be a frenzy or bloodlust type of ability that gives you double damage for 5 secs or prevents you from taking damage for a few seconds. Thoughts?
Absolutely not. Why? Because I’d buy two, that’s why. I have two accounts.
I’m extremely offended that the Norn, who are not human, are forced to wear clothing. I know a few Nornies and they hate wearing clothes, especially the female variety. Let the Asura have all the clothing the Norn no longer need.
