I personally wouldn’t charge for my portals for the following reasons:

1) People will flame you in chat for it.
2) Another mesmer will most likely offer it for free.
3) People are less likely to give you money because they think you are greedy.
4) I find charging a large amount excludes the poorer players.
5) I get enough money from tips.
6) I’d feel bad about taking advantage of people that can’t do jp’s.

Yes mesmers do it free often. Gotta play it smart (Overflow switching)
People will give me money. I charge before portal or half now half after port.
I think of all the times i did it free I earned 10 silver total. (Maybe 4 hours of porting)

A mesmer sets up a portal (Use skill)
A portal appears on the ground
The mesmer runs to location B and sets a second portal on the ground (Use skill again)
Anyone (Limited to 20 ports per portal) can now use the portal either way as many times they want, although the portal itself only stays active for some seconds before disappearing.

In the case of jumping puzzle the idea is often that the Mesmer simply falls down to the lower ground and portal people up from there.

Question in title. If someone charges to portal people to the end of a jumping puzzle. Is that illegal in any way?

9 hours of farming, 0 crates, 350-420% MF.. I’m bugged might have to report this. I have done 6 hours of events only and 3 hours of veteran farming with large groups…. Wth people are getting boxes left right and center.

Because you’re doing it wrong. Don’t do events. Don’t kill veterans. Farm the young karka over and over. About 5 hours of grind has yielded me 7 crates. Needless to say I have only gotten materials of no value, so no reason to envy me! Have to beat RNG twice!

Clearly they found that directly selling weapon skins (like they did during Winter’s Day) did not work and they realised that part of what motivated people to try for the special skins was their rarity. Although you’re gonna meet a lot of hate from that here, I appreciate that perspective. But the problem is not that people can buy stuff for real money. The problem is that even people who legitimately want to pay Anet some coin for a weapon skin for example (Im more to the minipets but w/e) – Well they can’t. I opened 6 chests so far with nothing but cheap materials. (Grinded my way to them) – Imagine how many chests you would have to buy if you just want that one dagger skin. 10? 30? 100? Even if someone buys 100 chests and Anet profits.. Is that the kind of company they should be? Wouldn’t you mind that it kitten off 3 pages of players minus you and one other I think`?

As I mentioned above, the problem with offering cheaper purchases is that players can simply use gold to convert to gems, and negating any revenue what so ever to ANet. And then you get the cascading issues there (unfavorable exchange rate, etc.). The number of avaialable items isn’t so much the issue. Rather, it’s the price of the items due explcitily to the gold to gem mechanism.

No. This is not possible. Anet does not throw gems into the system. Only players do. If players do not buy gems, prices will go up as we have seen since launch. The result is that gem price will only go up until players can’t afford them anymore, at which point they will have to buy gems or miss out.

Higher gem to gold price also means that there will be players converting the opposite way of course. Anet will not miss out.

People can make threats all they want about leaving the game due to this stuff but the fact of the matter is is that there are scores of players who actually spend hundreds of dollars for that small chance of getting a unique weapon (like the example a few posts above) and because of this it will continue to happen. In the mean time I will just sit and laugh at those who throw all this money at a game for these weapons.

1: See new minipets
2: Be unable to beat hardcore RNG
3: Collection ruined because content was temporary

In the previous karka event Consortium Chests were drops as well. I never saw one. I never heard of anyone who looted one.

So whats the over-under on the rarity of the chest drops from Southsun enemies? I know it’ll probably take a few days for any hard data to appear, but just first impressions from people who have had a chance to play the content, are they Black Lion Chest Key levels of rarity (what I’m assuming will be the case, you get 1 over the duration of the event if you’re lucky)? Unidentified Dye levels?

I have now farmed for several hours with 250-280% MF. I actually managed to loot 4 chests which is lucky compared to the group I farmed with (Only one other got a single chest) – Of these 5 chests we only got common resources though. Karka shelles, passion fruits, those fancy flowers.

We also got the alternative before. Problem is the drop rate. First you have to get a chest. I farmed for 2-3 hours with 257% magic find tonight. Got one chest. Out of the chests you get you furthermore have to win another RNG game to get what you want from the chest. I didn’t succeed.

After about 2-3 hours of non stop grinding Young Karkas with 257% Magic Find I can confirm that the chests actually drop this patch. Got one, had about 8 silver worth in mats. I still havent heard of anyone with the “rare chance” minipet(s) yet

How you go about making money is what separates companies like CD Projekt RED & Valve from companies like Zynga & EA. It’s just food for thought, but EA’s business practices got them voted the worst company in America by popular vote for two years running.

While there is some way from Anet to Zynga and EA, I do hope that Anet realizes this, cause you have a very good point.

tPvP is quite puggable, I made it as far as 96th percentile with pugging only. But I agree that tPvP should be split in to solo queue (Maybe including duo queue) and full party queues with seperate ratings.

(Well actually they should shut PvP down until they fix the 6 month old no-chest issue, but you know Anet…)

But I bought Braham’s shield for my norn guardian. I don’t buy keys, I’ve tried two sets of keys in the past and have since given up. Same. I have never ever bought a Black Lion chest and never will. It’s not because I don’t like what’s in them. But if i spend my real money on them, I want to know what I am buying. Even if expensive I might consider some of the items.

Can’t view the images so I can’t really speak to the quality of the weapons, but I definately don’t like that they’re doing yet another set of untradable RNG chest weapons.

To be fair I do not know if they are tradeable yet. But being loud at the forum is the only way to maybe do some impact before the chests are shipped.. And Anet as I know them are not the ones to just change things.
Edit: Previewing the weapons does say account bound though Anet pls.

I just don’t understand why they can’t use friendlier alternatives; There are always better ways than plain RNG.

1: Using fixed prices
2: Make items tradeable (The new stuff might be, if not, it is my request for anet)
3: Use a feelgood ticket system – Didn’t get that minipet in 5, 10, 15 attempts? Well now you have 15 tickets, go trade it in for the mini.

RNG gambling is certainly already in the game

Get packed for the return to Southsun Cove. An assortment of souvenirs from the Southsun islands. This chest contains Southsun crafting materials and a chance to get a wide variety of items such as shoulder skins, new boosts and conveniences, and a rare chance to get new weapon skins and mini pets.

Enjoy Anets rare chances. My collection of minis is over unless they are at the very least tradeable.

It is important to remember that reports submitted in-game go directly to our QA team for investigation. All reports of this nature will need to be submitted in-game so that QA can attempt to verify and reproduce the issue.

So from everything I’ve gotten out of them, It sounds like the more bug reports you guys send after each game, the greater the chance to get it solved. I’ll from now on send them an ingame bug report every single time i win a tournament.

Thought I would share the final answer I got from support, when I finally managed to level with them. I’m not sure if it is a comforting send-off or if it actually is a priority, but here you are:

I’m very sorry to hear about the situation you’ve been having with the tournament chests. The developers are definitely making this one of their priorities. But I’m afraid, as with many bug reports, it can take some time. Extensive testing and coding are required to not only resolve this issue, but to ensure it does not create additional issues elsewhere in the game. No timeframe is available on when this will happen, but when more information is available, it would be posted at (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_status_updates) and the forums (http://forum.guildwars2.com/).

We definitely understand your frustrations over this, and I do apologize we do not have more definitive information on this matter. The only alternative at this time would be to continue playing your matches and earning any amount of rewards on your new world that would be greater than the rewards earned on your previous world. Without any definitive timeframe for this issue, we would be unable to offer any other workarounds or solutions.
