I really don’t see why your upset about this encounter.

What is upsetting is that he got taken from 100% to 0 instantly (AOE on top of that and with low cooldown).
Note that mesmer could react to his burst because thief’s burst is fast but not instant.
Thief could not react to mesmers burst, because mesmer’s burst is instant.
What thief could have done is ‘predict’ how mesmer is going to react and then dodge before proceeding with his burst.
Note that ‘predicting’ what other player is going to do and take action in advance is completely different than ‘reacting’ to what he is doing.

Luckily, devs are fixing this, problem solved.

The reason I say that is because there is so many problems in the game. I should have said “surprised” instead of upset would be more fitting.

Going in attempting to ignore the phantasms/clones and going straight for the mesmer is asking to die. Perhaps if he took them out at range this thread probably wouldn’t exist.

I really don’t see why your upset about this encounter.

1-You had a nice reset from the first engagement.

2- You are a glass cannon thief, you took him him to a quarter health in half a second and yet your pointing the finger? He got the best of you in this time. Period.

3- The stealth rendering needs to be fixed, in this situation you benefit from it and he did not. Regardless it still needs to be addressed.

4- I partially blame the dev’s they already said they will be addressing the problem with mesmer insane spike damage. But who knows it could be something else there not telling us.

5- Until the bugs are under control, until stealth rendering is fixed, until you cannot character swap before a spvp tourne, until you cannot swap to the same class in spvp in order to get your elite back instantly. I pretty much won’t expect this game to become anywhere near balanced. And neither should you. As of right now the unbalanced outweighs balance in the game as a whole.

@ Mesmer: We’ll be addressing the current Mesmer build that’s spiking for insane damage. Sorry that change got through – it is something we’ll be fixing.

@ Macros: Macros are against the user agreement. You can be banned for using them, so use them at your own risk. I would also advise against using them, because in live tournaments, you won’t be able to use macros. So it makes little sense to learn “bad habbits” you’ll just have to retrain later.

We adhere to the same “one keystroke = one action on one character/account”, which is used by a lot of MMO publishers when defining botting/macros.

Just wanted to clear that up – be careful w/ those macros, they can get you banned.

My question is do you actually have a system in place for dealing with said macro’s other than relying on the community to report the problem for you?

This forces a team to actually become a team, to sit and discuss their builds with each other, to actually add synergy in their overall composition. Anyone who disagrees with this is in their own bubble. It never should have been about having everything to choose from to begin with. It’s only when your forced to pick a few apples from the tree when your decision effects the outcome of the match. Not IN the match knowing your up against something you weren’t equipped for and then switch out this and that accordingly. This change will weed out the sore losers and I welcome it.

For the same reason a giant flaming spike of rock shouldn’t float over a person’s head for 2 seconds pointlessly when it doesn’t help the ele by leaving it there. Also for the same reason said flaming spike of rock does no damage when it crashes on the enemy’s head if the ele dodges during that 3s.

If things worked as realistically as you asked, stealth wouldn’t be fully invisible, it would be hiding in plain sight. We’d still see footprints, sounds, the look of someone CCed in stealth who can’t control their appearance, we’d see water that is coating them when splashed with water, or dust, or smoke when burning. We’d also be able to target everything where we want it instead of where the skill feels like targetting. We’d also be able to start channeling before a thief became visible again and unleash as soon as we see it.

So you see, being able to channel and connect if the thief goes into stealth partway though, despite being unrealistic, makes up for these other ways that we are unable to damage a thief where we should be able to realistically.

1- Mesmers already hide in plain sight with illusions and people make a uproar about it.

2-You took my comment and blew it out of context, yes I said realistic but this is still a game after all. Invisible should simply mean exactly that.

Down state isn’t going anywhere but if I could choose it would only have its place in PVE

Agreed I feel downstate doesn’t really fit well with a fast paced PvP scene. I feel it’s too much of a broken idea thrown into the mix of PvP. One of the main concerns was that the developers don’t really know how to fix the problem when a team goes to revive a teammate and they all die because there simply is no way to fix that. I think scrapping downstate would be a step in the right direction. It takes more skill to down a player than it does to revive him personally. And yes I know some classes are easier to play than others but I’m saying as a whole.

It’s unfair to both parties, the ones that gain to the ones that don’t. In this situation the roles should be reversed.

You’re kidding right? Stealth in general, at it’s core even as a mechanical concept, is already a hand holding idiot button that promotes unfairness. If someone hit you with a channeled ability you shouldn’t just get to cancel it because you hit your “whoops” button that you hit every 3 seconds anyways.

Braxxus, please enlighten me on which stealth ability is on a 3 second cooldown But let me try to explain this to you Braxxus please take notes. So you click on a guy, you cast a channeled ability. That channeled ability will automatically follow and hit them if they are within range, correct? So say in the middle of that, they go stealth… If you cannot see a person “at range” then why would your channeled ability still magically be following them and be hitting them? You should not be hitting something with a channeled spell if you literally cant see them. That should be a no-brainer.

The problem is that a-net still thinks that they can turn the conquest mode into an e-sport, sigh…
Balance should have been around 5v5 or 8v8 deathmatch, not around running around the map – avoiding pvp to win.

Objectives, map control, organisation, etc are PvP.

PvP does not equate simply to players hitting each other over the head.

As for deathmatch, as you said they went for this e-sport thing, I guess they looked at what happened to WoW as an e-sport even with their sub base, then looked at LoL…

World Of Warcraft has been around since 2004, And has had more time and money to successfully make wow into a pretty competitive e-sport. Although I see great potential in guild wars 2 it simply has not delivered when it comes to pvp “yet”. Things take time to flourish, and yes I always like to route for a underdog to give a fresh taste of innovation when it comes to the mmo world. Especially when the top money maker like WoW has been around for longer than I would have liked. People will only hold on to something reliable for so long, which is probably the reason why people still continue to play it.

So your supporting why the game should be holding your hand , great. You see I actually like to play the game, I’d rather not have the game play itself for me. If that’s the case I might as well go watch a movie because that is something I know I’m not involved in whatsoever. As long as any game continues to do hold your hand, and reward you for things you should not be rewarded for. Then it will never reach it’s potential to be a great game.

Well that was condescending. Did you make the topic for discussion or to hate on people who disagree with you? If the second, it’s against the rules and should be deleted. If the first, then you should be glad to hear the experience of others.

I’m all about constructive criticism, however his post did not offer any solution to what he is stating. In my original post I stated the problems and gave solutions to said problem. If your not going to be part of the solution then your part of the problem. But back to the topic at hand. I don’t know about you but if someone goes into stealth during a channeled cast then you should fail to hit your remaining channel, it’s pretty much common sense. I personally think that you should not be able to see the other teams composition & names until your weapons and utilities are locked into place just before the match starts.
Why?

Because even by a name and or composition it gives away details about a persons build in general, and it should not provoke a team to change up their strategy before game. This will furthermore provide that a team focus on their own synergy and comp. This will provide the best amount of balance.

People think removing choices somehow promotes diversity. Fascinating.

All this means is one player on your team with a universal build joins first and the rest of your teammates wait and see what he calls out and adjust accordingly.

Nothing has changed, except people won’t join games till the the timer runs out to hide their comp and gear setups. Or they’ll run some odd weapons and swap to them at the last second to confuse people.

Sounds like fun.

Solution : You should not be able to see the team until the team name is displayed. Therefore things like swapping at the last second would not exist I’m going to make a thread about this, thanks.

Yesterday macro mesmers were killing me much much faster than a day ago. I can attest to this buffage being insanely good for mesmers! Ouchie many butt cuts were dealt. Didn’t lose the games tho

Just so you all know, not sure if its happening on EU but theres like 4 or 5 mesmers on NA who have macros that do instantaneous 9 clone shatters. It’s beyond me but its giving mesmers instant 25 stacks

I could get 21 stacks of might before this patch. “Instant” eh? That’s laughable. People need to learn to know what you have to spec in order to get a high stack of might. Not every mesmer has this handed to them. Also, mouse macros are entirely a different story. My friend used to play a warrior and tied all his cd’s with hundred blades in a push of a button. This will soon be forgotten, and it should be to be quite honest.

If you want to know how I play there ya go. Long story short I was running with a pretty solid team for the most part but most of them quit, moving on to other games because they did not want to wait for the game to come out with more content. They got bored, they left. I however still would like to play with a great team if one still exists. Let me know with a message in game or on here if interested. If not I’m going to just play another game eventually because PvP is all I really care about with Guild Wars 2.

I believe it’s a bug. A trait that gives 9 stacks of might is ridiculous when compared to everything else. The devs probably only wanted to tive it 3 stacks, as it’s the normal amount to be expect from those kind of traits, but at the moment it gives 3 stacks per illusion.

Putting this thread to rest.

1- You have to spec 25 points into Illusions, this is not all mesmers.
2- IF you are spec’d into it you get a 3 stack of might per illusion you shatter.
3- @Nerva – You should be killing the illusions anyways, not doing so you should expect to die
4- In order to share it with others Mesmers have to use one of their Utility skills for that single purpose.

5- If your going to complain about something, please understand it fully before making a thread. You are giving people false information in which the people who don’t know the correct information feed off it like wildfire and it never ends. This is the way it is.

I agree with 1 and 2. 3 doesn’t make much sense. No good thief spams heartseeker. You should be happy if a thief does that to you. It means they are wasting their initiative.

Now on the other hand, if you are dying to some nooby heartseeker spammer, you really need to work on your play style. There is no stun with heartseeker. It is easy enough to avoid.

No I’m not dying to heartseeker. My point is what you get from one spammable ability compared to others, it should be a concern.

It has been almost 4 months since the release of the game. And here is my list of concerns I still see or have recently been a problem or a persisting problem with guild wars 2. Here they are in no current order that “I” think should be changed in some way. I will also give my opinion on the change I think they should take in general. Here they are in no particular order.

1- Stealth render glitch- Everyone is probably fully aware of the stealth rendering glitch in guild wars 2. Thieves and Mesmer’s being the most problematic. Having this problem with more than one class can really effect 1v1 or team fight, and a team fight could cost you the game. And having this problem on more than one class makes the SPvP feel unrewarding knowing there isn’t much you can do other than playing very defensively to try and counter.

2- Target system while in stealth- One of my main examples of this is say a Mesmer or anything for that matter is about to cast’s a channel’d spell on you before you enter stealth. When you enter stealth that channel should cease to work. Period. There really isn’t any reason why it should auto lock on you, thus defeating the purpose of stealth entirely. Therefore my suggestion should be that if someone is hitting you with a channeled spell it should automatically cease to target that player if he enter’s stealth.

3- Heartseeker- Heartseeker has probably been one of the most talked about abilities on the forums for several reasons. The target system is pretty laughable when it comes to what you get by simply pressing one button and nothing else. If you have a player targeted, you have to do no more than press the skill, nothing more, nothing less. With one button you leap to your target, you do damage, and regardless of where your opponent moves you follow. that many mechanics with one button is a laughing stock at best when you figure what you get for it.
Possible fix suggestions for heart seeker.

— For every heartseeker the player would have to use ground targeting every time they used heartseeker. This way there would no damage nerf, and yet you would actually have to think a little bit in order to connect it other than to simply target someone, run to them and spam 2. I’m sure alout of people would complain that you couldn’t ground target as fast because you have to hit the ability, aim it, then he does it. One might even suggest a damage buff in compensation to having to ground target. Because that way if you hit the ability, then you should be rewarded for it.

— Another possible fix even though it wouldn’t be as good as the first in my opinion is to literally raise the cost of initiative of heartseeker, so It cannot be spammed. Although it would still be a mindless ability in my eyes, but atleast players would not be able to cheese it out like before.
Although this is not the entire list of what I think needs some fixing but yeah let me know what you guys think.

How do you reconcile the cripple on clone death vs lowered staff cooldowns, especially using a sword where you have sword 3 for a cripple if needed?

Well the sword in my opinion doesn’t work too well. Since this spec is based purely off conditions the staff has a wider selection of conditions. As the 2h would only apply bleed “with sigil” or vunerability. The staff for me would be a better choice. Therefore taking the cripple.

Just to clarify, do regular overwrites also count as clone deaths? You never seem to mention that, but I don’t know if it’s because it doesn’t work or because dodging is much more reliable.

Yes the overwrites do count as clone death’s. And I should of been more specific but I did say the word overwrite in the video but I only said it once.

Not bad, I used a similar build when I first started playing Mesmer in PvP and it worked well in a lot of scenarios. What this build is incredibly good for is being able to deal with bunkers, it obviously takes a while, but you should be able to kill any bunker in the game with a build like this. So, in fact, it is not completely useless for high level PvP, seeing as how it’s getting common to deal with teams running up to 3 bunkers.

Wise raises the point, however, that you are even more on the cusp of death than ever before with this type of build. Especially when one of the ever bothersome glass cannon Thieves decides to show up and ignore everything while bursting you down.

Yeah that’s true, it does have it’s pros and cons like any spec.

If your wondering how I was able to get some of the shots at different angles in the middle of the fight. Guild wars 2 does not enable you to go into first person, so to make the fights more creative I recorded live footage against some of the top teams, team paradigm, Vision Valor Victory etc. And then I had some of my friends make exact copies of the characters from those teams and mimic the fight I had previously recorded with no interface to give it more of a movie feel and to add depth. I’m a strong believer that if you release a game, you should have it with all of it’s core features already in the game at launch, being as balanced as possible. And if you cannot meet those standards I would “willingly” wait for a better game to be released instead of patching it as you go. People don’t tend to stick around while you tend to something in which you should have looked at prior. I also understand that there will be some things that you cannot think of until the game is literally in the hands of the consumer.

But it’s been like 2 months in and there are so many problems with PvP I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Here are just a few on the top of my head

-Block bug on guardians
-Invis Rendering Issues with Invis taking longer it should be on mesmers and thieves
-Necros have probably the most bugs in the game
-Thieves being able to 3 to 4 shot people

I can name many more but the point is those things listed are game breaking. People should not be punished for something that is either out of their control, or being abused by other players. There is no balance in that. People will simply leave before it gets fixed without a second thought.

Also why not add these features
Dueling
1v1 Arena Deathmatch
2v2 Arena Deathmatch
3v3 Arena Deathmatch
5v5 Arena Deathmatch

For those that are against this idea, simply do not play. Simple as that. I have wanted a 1v1 Deathmatch in any Mmo for as long as I can remember, and if you think this is unbalanced, just make a ladder and don’t give anyone rewards for it. I would still play just because I would want to face up against other professions from all servers for there mere fun of it.

When this game was released, where was your marketing? Where ever it was, it was horrible. I believe this game has A LOT of potential but you guys did a poor job of spreading the word. At least a month before Mists of pandaria was released every commercial on twitch was….you guessed it, mists of pandaria every single time. Long story short you did a poor job on letting the public know that you had a great unfinished game ready to roll.

Overall I think lots of people will leave this game really soon. I have lots of great games coming out next week and I don’t really see any reason to stay to try and find a 5 man team who is of equal skill as me, coordinate a time and try and wait in 30 minute ques to play a unbalanced game which should of been looked at and fixed sooner. You should of literally held back the launch, made people wait. And come out with a nice polished, balanced, finished game. But instead I feel as if you rushed it when it comes to terms with PvP balance. And you are losing your players for it.

There is no reason to have 1v1 arena and dueling they simply bump heads with one another. 5v5 DM arena makes no sense also. Already have a 5v5 bracket, its just conquest style.

And I games always comes with bugs when they are released. You will also have people looking for stuff to exploit. I don’t know why some of these bugs are not fixed yet, I am not on Anet’s Q&A. But honestly, if you are going to act like you know something about how a game should be marketed besides playing it on twitch.tv, maybe you should just go work for Anet since you seem to know a lot about it, and telling them they did it wrong.

Long story short you did a poor job on letting the public know that you had a great unfinished game ready to roll.

Overall I think lots of people will leave this game really soon. I have lots of great games coming out next week and I don’t really see any reason to stay to try and find a 5 man team who is of equal skill as me, coordinate a time and try and wait in 30 minute ques to play a unbalanced game which should of been looked at and fixed sooner. You should of literally held back the launch, made people wait. And come out with a nice polished, balanced, finished game. But instead I feel as if you rushed it when it comes to terms with PvP balance. And you are losing your players for it.

@Xeph: I dont think they will change decoy and desperate decoy. Stealth is a feature of the class and it will really annoy lots of people if it is just deleted. You should think of a different change instead of this one.

Also they need to buff confusion/condition/support mesmer builds substantially imo. Mesmers need a viable condition spec which at the moment they dont have due to confusion being unviable as a primary damage source.

I’m probably one of the best example’s of a hybrid condition shatter mesmer. But you figure out how to do it on your own, my lips are sealed.

I think xeph actually has good suggestions. The only things i’d alter about it are distortion (if it’s only going to be 1s immunity you might as well replace it) and decoy… I’d do what he suggested but apply stealth to the mesmer for .5-1s so that it can remove marking. Maybe even make decoy ground targeted, but then it’s just a beefed up blink, which honestly even with the way he proposed it is an issue.

As much as I enjoy playing the game I just don’t know if A-net will have what it takes for this game to become e-sport material. Sure it has the potential sure, but their marketing sucks sadly.

While Mesmers could probably use some nerfs most suggestions are just going to result in the profession being made obsolete or not really having any impact at all. In order to balance mesmers right you need to have a design plan other than “nerf the broken stuff”.

First we need to decide just what a mesmer is supposed to do and how they should be played. Once we do that it’s a lot easier to see where the problems are.

Next we need to make sure mesmers have a unique strength. They have to provide a meaningful advantage that no other profession can.

Finally they need an exploitable weakness. The weakness must be unique to the profession and severe enough so mesmer players can’t ignore or trivialize it.

So here’s how I would fix mesmers:

Mesmer’s Role/Play style

A Mesmer’s job is to waste their opponent’s time and resources by tricking them into attacking their illusions. Illusions don’t deal damage, but players will still see numbers from the illusion’s attacks making them very convincing to unwary opponents. If defeated illusions will apply debuffs to the target(s) that damaged them or buffs to nearby allies.

Mesmer’s Weakness

A mesmser’s weakness is their opponents competence. A mesmer player must be aware of how their target is responding to their illusions and tricks and not behave in any way that would draw attention to themselves. Mesmers have no defense outside of their mind games.

Here are some sample rebalanced mesmer skills:

Mirror Images: Summons an illusion that mimics your movements and attacks, but with a slight delay. If defeated you and nearby allies gain protection and might for 10 seconds. If it is not defeated after 10 seconds the illusion will vanish and you become weakened for 5 seconds.

Feedback: Creates a small dome that reflects all damage taken. You or one of your illusions must remain inside the dome for this effect to occur.

Chaos Armor (Staff): Give Chaos Armor to yourself and your illusions. Reducing all damage taken, but causing unpredictable effects to yourself whenever you or your illusions are struck.

Moa Morph: Summons a friendly unstable Moa Spirit. The spirit will slowly chase down your target increasing in speed each time one of your illusions is destroyed. If the spirit makes contact with a foe they will turn into a Moa Bird for 5 minutes. If the spirit does not make contact with a foe after 10 seconds it will become hostile and instantly return to you. The effects of Moa Morph persist through death.

Ether Feast (Heal Skill): Heal Yourself. Gain additional health for each active illusion. Using this skill causes you to glow for 3 seconds.

You can’t balance PvP around numbers or individual abilities, only systems and play styles. Otherwise you’ll just be playing FoTM Whac-A-Mole with the professions, and that’s terrible.

Probably the worst Ideas I have ever read. Oh and illusions can deal damage if spec’d into the right traits. Please understand a class before you post.

I don’t think that anyone can deny the fact that Mesmers need a nerf; the problem is that the nerf needs to be balanced and that the class can remain viable even after those nerfs are implemented; I do understand the fact that a lot of people would like to see the class nerfed to the ground, and I personally see the problems with the class, so I would like to make a few suggestions.

Portal CD be increased from 60r -> 90r

Mindwrack damage increase trait “Mental Torment” be decreased from 20% increase damage to 10%.

Distortion no longer takes into account the amount of illusions you have active, but be a flat 1 second invulnerable.

Decoy no longer makes the mesmer invisible but instead blinks the mesmer back 900 units spawning an illusion in his place; this can also be applied to the trait “Desperate Decoy”.

I feel like those would be fair nerfs at the moment to mesmers, given the fact that over nerfs are very popular now a days.

Portal Cd- I can understand putting a longer cd on it, it would balance things out quite a bit.

Mental Torment- 10% decrease I also don’t see a problem with that sounds reasonable

Distortion Nerf- This I do have a problem with, I think if you have three clones then you deserve to gain the benefits from the spell the way it is.

Decoy Nerf- Your idea completely negates what decoy was designed to do and should probably never be messed with. It’s good as is. It shouldn’t be a vamped up version of phase retreat.

As a whole I think Mesmer’s are a pretty complete class, I think A-net needs to kink out all the bugs with every characters before we even look at the big picture as far as nerfs go when it comes to any class in this point in time.

I seriously died in like 1.5 sec and couldn’t even react to it and I consider myself having good reflexes. Took about 19k hp in 1.5 sec. I’m sure you’ll like the 12k backstab there. and if you look up you’ll see 5k and another 5k from c/d and steal. This needs a fix seriously.

You don’t tell people to learn to play against a Mesmer because sure you might be a good Mesmer but you’re probably a garbage Thief, Warrior, Ranger, or Necro (In which those classes do take more skill [less forgiving, less rewarding] than face-roll Mesmer) who can’t prove that Mesmers aren’t broken for sPvP/tPvP’s standards right now.

They simply deserve to get nerfed further and anyone who disagrees with that statement is clearly in denial. Seriously that’s just how it is. Mesmers are too forgiving in which if you get too attached to the class then you will probably fail with any other class.

- One of the main reason’s why people are having trouble dealing with Mesmers, and many other classes is a combination of the following,

1- Not being able to play your class effectively.

2- Not understanding the class you are fighting, this is fixed by playing the class yourself to get some kind of insight and judgement of said class and how to counter it. This also may take time as there being tons of viable specs for each profession.

3- Not being the right spec. Just because you were facerolled by one class possibly suggest’s one of the following statement’s above combined with them being a counter spec & OR profession to what you are currently running. Alout of people like to assume that everyone runs the same spec with each profession and its easy to get in that mindset that everyone is the same thing, without asking that particular person first. In which leads to forum posts, and so on.

I’m curious to what class you are particularly running. Regardless of what your answer may be I’m assuming that you have not played a Mesmer in detail and then decide in your own head that it should be punished for your lack of understanding.

TLDR- there is no short version of this, just read the kitten thing.

This is my 3rd Mesmer montage. Hopefully you all enjoyed it as much as I did editing it.
If your wondering how I was able to get some of the shots at different angles in the middle of the fight. Guild wars 2 does not enable you to go into first person, so to make the fights more creative I recorded live footage against some of the top teams, team paradigm, Vision Valor Victory etc. And then I had some of my friends make exact copies of the characters from those teams and mimic the fight I had previously recorded with no interface to give it more of a movie feel and to add depth.
