Countless, you play very well, but I had a hard time really following and analyzing the play b/c of the screen-shaking and other post-production. While it does add to the epic-feel, I lose my place quite often.

hey guyz, plz comment on this build. This is the best build I have made so far in my thread posting experience and I hope you guyz can give light onto anything that should be looked into more.
This is a question i have to ask you for the build:
Should I replace the Crippling Dissipation for the Mental Torment trait??
I feel that i need the Mindwrack damage buff more than I need the cripple to balance the Condition/Stealth mode and Shatter Damage mode to perfection. Plus the condition damage that I need doesnt come from the Crippling Dissipation trait, so I am thinking of replacing that one with the Mindwrack Damage boost. Plz answer this question.
To be completely honest this is the same number trait wise as my Suicide build, except instead you threw together worse traits in a attempt to make it the jack of all trades as
a shatter and clone death hybrid, which sadly you cannot do. The choice of the celestrial ammy is completely out of place, and. Even muttering the word shatter in this build other with the rare exceptions of diversion and distortion is literally contradicting what your entire build is meant to do when it comes to constant sustain. Just please……..stop.
Furthermore, I’m pretty sure I was one of the first to come up with the idea behind the clone on death build. If you wish to call me out on it I will simply link you the youtube video of mine in which I shared it with the community. So unless you figured out clone on death by December of last year then I rest my case.
On that note, please stop trying to further infect the community further with your false teachings. Thank you

Also this thread in general is all over the place, nobody is sticking to the header of the thread. The op has made the thread about his opinion on mesmer’s being misplaced in the current “meta”. Then you have other people with their opinion on how mesmer’s should be nerfed. My response to this thread is simple. Balance out what needs to be balanced, such as spirit rangers, and necros " But within reason". And then see how it plays out overall within the game. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why are you so bitter ?
Because there are so many design flaws in PvP that there isn’t so much to being happy after 1 year of constant updates leading to nothing.
The meta was broken since launch and there wasn’t really a period in which you were able to say “Finally I can play in a balanced game”.
All I see in the sPvP forums are suggestion aiming to make changes that will lead again on imbalances, shifting the meta again in situations in which some profession overshadow all the others.
Mesmer has been and still is a must-take in every tPvP match because of its utilities. In the current meta Mesmer didn’t survived because of not-so-good condition removals. After you’ll bring again Mesmer in the meta, it will be again a must take in every team because of portal, IoL, Moa/TW and so on.
Necromancers and Rangers, after their conditions and spirits will be toned down, will be again unviable and brought in no team ever, because, in the way they are designed, they bring pretty much nothing in the conquest gamemode.
Probably the mother of every issue is that the competitive gamemode is only one and that some professions are designed to be the best at it..?
I have nothing against TP, it’s just that you are the biggest voice in the PvP community, but, still, it looks like you want to bring the meta as it was 6-7 months ago.
So because we don’t share the same balance views as yourself, it means thakittens fine to take shots at us ?

Fact of the matter is, that if necro and thief are nerfed, then mesmer will once again be viable and in my personal opinion a little too strong, espically damage wise, so what I would suggest is to:
Nerf the damage on berserker.
Remove the mightstacks given on mirror blade and replace it with regen/retaliation.
Reduce the mental torment trait to only giving 10% increased mindwrack damage.
Reduce Halting strike damage by 15% (its a free windwrack right now)Hopefully that should bring them in line damage wise.
I am sure there are more things that need to be looked at, but I personally would start there.
Lets just stick to one thing at a time my little small popular mesmer friend. Let’s balance out the classes that need to be balanced first. And then we will see where Mesmer’s stand.

Chaos Armor: This skill no longer automatically applies protection when activated. This buff now provides an equal chance to trigger regeneration, swiftness, or protection on hit with a 1-second internal recharge. The random condition applied now has a 1-second internal recharge per target. These changes apply to the Chaos Armor provided through combo finishers as well.———
I’ve been playing staff since it’s change on July 9th. And personally I don’t understand why there should be a interval recharge on chaos armor to begin with. You cast chaos armor, and if the caster get’s struck, the target get’s a condition, simple as that. Personally I feel this change was not needed. By doing so in effect nerfed the trait blinding befuddlement because chaos armor as you know was a great source of blind, therefore stacking decent confusion “depending on your target”, therefore in which lies the problem. Targets that have fast attack speed such as Ele or thief, chaos armor and blinding befuddlement together was good counter play. But for slower classes such as guardians, and necros, there was not as big of a effect, therefore giving other classes counter play towards it.
In conclusion, doing this change was not necessary. It therefore effected not only the skill itself, but traits as well. Even the way it was before “with” blinding befuddlement was not a serious threat to every class, but the contrary. Therefore making it balanced, and fun. Please consider this.

I hope they do something about mesmer illusions and mesmer condi removal cost. Mesmer survival needs a bit of help, especially against s/d thieves it’s just dumb.
Right now the only thing you can play is shatter because in team fights it is impossible for illusions to last longer than a few seconds.
Mesmer condi builds are also largely lacking because the staff applies vulnerability, which is useless on a condi build, and then they don’t have any other secondary weapon that can sustain conditions because somehow they removed confusion from the scepter autoattack in beta. The scepter does a long cd channel confusion stack spike and that’s as far as it goes.
The torch phantasm is still terrible. It should be like 7 stacks of confusion for 7 seconds and bounce among targets.
Condi mesmer just has a lot of ramp up.
Cry of Confusion is not rather good as a shatter. It was supposed to be revamped in the BWE, shortly after release we got Peters asking for suggestions for it, but nothing ever happened.
I disagree, there are other viable builds for mesmer other than shatter. Personally I just don’t think other players, top players and casual alike have ventured in and explored all the options. I currently have a mesmer condi build that I play in tourne, and it does quite well. It’s capable of putting out every condition except for fear and torment. Although I do agree that scepter still needs work. If I had to make some constructive feedback on the matter I would say Torment needs to be on scepter 3 replacing the confusion. Also I believe the waiting time to apply the condi on scepter 3 is also very lacking. Futhermore I would make every other scepter auto attack apply confusion “Every other attack to prevent scepter 1 confusion spam”.

I think you don’t understand what a condi phantasm is lolz. Every phantasm except maybe and that just a maybe iWhaler scales better with power (including iMage and its given retaliation). There’s no phantasms that apply multiple damaging condis such as burning/poison/torment/bleeds with very low base damage so the whole phantasm would be truly considered a ‘condition phantasm’. People find ‘the most’ condi oriented phantasm from what’s available but that doesn’t mean we have a true condi phantasm available now. iDuelist is by far the one that would deal the most condi damage on a single target but it requires high enough crit chance, SI and Phantasmal Fury which negates this being a condi phantasm because of this requirement. Its just another phantasm that ‘could work’ in a condi build but isn’t a condi phantasm. Does a real phantasm that deals in pure condi damage exist? No. Debate finished, get over yourself lol.

Well, nothing here say it is a bug fix. No “bugfix” tag, no “now correctly do XXX”, no “as initially intended”, just a statement of modification. For those who played beta, there were a lot of people asking for on demand protection, and it really did look like ANet put that on purpose in the first place at release. What makes you think it is otherwise ?
Well it did not perform as the tooltip suggest, nothing in chaos armor itself says that protection is the first thing to proc. Therefore it is not working as intended, thus bug fix. What happened is people got used to the un-intended mechanic of the ability, simple as that.

Chaos Armor was buffed. The Staff was nerfed.
It never needed the ICD before because it only gave Swiftness/Regen when hit, and only caused cripple/confusion.
So, what you’re saying is… As a buff, Chaos Armor was always horrible (and worse before the patch) but acceptable on the staff because of the on-demand protection.If you’re using the staff, it comes with at least 10 seconds of Chaos Storm, so you can definitely squeeze more than 2 boons from it.
Regeneration doesn’t scale any differently for Mesmer than it does for any other class. You get out of it what you put into it. Same thing with the rest of the boons. Swiftness works better in PvE, but Swiftness + Cripple should make a difference in combat, even if the opponent has swiftness. Blind is cool, and now our clones can cause blindness/cripple when we iLeap out of Chaos Storm.
Those suggested buffs sound awesome though. The one thing Chaos Armor doesn’t need is Regeneration and it needs more Confusion to be viable (though Torment would probably be a more appropriate condition). I’d honestly just drop Regen/Confusion altogether and leave the rest the same.. and return the protection gained back to 5 seconds.
Chaos Armor was buffed, and isn’t/never was horrible, but could be a bit better. Staff was nerfed as a result. Now Chaos Armor is better/worse depending on your build, and staff is better for teammates.
Both the staff and chaos armor were nerfed. Staff because there’s no protection on demand anymore and chaos armor because it can only proc once a sec and this is very noticeable against SB rangers and especially GS mesmers spamming Spatial Surge.

I found torch 4 and 5 to be extremely useful without having to swap traits out, just give up a bit of power from greatsword for some more survivability. I could be wrong on this though. Not an expert at this by any means. Being able to stealth for a few seconds when you need to escape also makes you more mobile than before. The phantasm accomplishes quite a lot in terms of being a defensive skill.
Phantasm is not viable in tournament-play, that’s the problem. And torch, traited, just gives you 2 condition-removes, which is just not optimal.

Let’s brainstorm some scenarios if we did this, FOR SCIENCE!
If death shroud = survivability, and we allowed necros to have death shroud from the start, then how could that change how necros play? How would this affect certain maps and the balance of those maps? How would this affect the meta? How would this affect other classes?
Also, if we gave necros death shroud, should we give warriors adrenaline? Should we give thieves initiative? Should we give everyone everything they ever wanted?
Ultimately, what I’m looking for is the reasoning, and why you feel this would be a positive change for the game. I’m curious, because it’s easy to say “I want, I want” without saying why.
I think that the reason is quite simple.
Death Shroud is, by far, the most prominent source of survivability of Necromancer, while adrenaline is used only for offensive purposes (I don’t know what you meant with giving initiative on thieves, since they start the match with full initiative anyway :P).What I’m trying to say is that to build up Life Force you are supposed to survive but, if you want to survive, you’d probably want to use Death Shroud, which is based on Life Force, which is what you want to survive for.
It is a vicious circle.About adrenaline it is different. Adrenaline is solely for offensive purposes. You hit your enemy, you build adrenaline and then unleakittens destructive power :P
Sure sure, but if we gave you life force at the beginning of the match, how would that help you when you’re in battle? What I mean is, by the time you get into combat, have used a fear or two, have used some life steal, other life-force producing skills, etc., do you not have the life force you need to try and survive? Wouldn’t that mean you’d actually have a surplus of life force?
Don’t forget that you’re also doing tons of damage while you’re casting all those abilities. Is it really balanced to give you survivability AND glass-cannon damage all at once?

Against a good team right in the beginning, we like to stealth ontop of their necro (or mesmer) and just 100-0 them before they can react. This is the scenario they are worried about. You’re inferring combat takes place in a slow fashion in the beginning. People get gibbed pretty quick in the first fight.
A good mesmer would simply decoy into a mass invis to disengage, a good mesmer would know the timers in which he was going to be opened on. I’m sorry but your argument is invalid. There is always two sides of the story friend.

1- Glory points to rank points- By now everyone has way too many glory points, and not enough stuff to spend it on, why not make it to where you can trade glory points to rank points. The need for glory points is almost meaningless because we already know what gear we are going to get with the rank required. So personally I think its pretty logical to speed up the process
2- From the new chests that we are getting we are getting all kinds of stuff that we may not use, my idea for this is to give the player a choice of either the pve stuff, or the choice to choose between a raw amount of glory points, or rank points. That way regardless of your play your getting something that YOU need, because you made the choice to begin with.

A few questions to the original poster
1- Why do you have the comments disabled on your video? Are you that afraid of the feedback you might get?
2- I’m not really too sure about you but if your so confident about your build then how come you don’t challenge the Spvp community? Personally Spvp has the highest class of top notch players, as compared to world v world “which is more towards zerg tactics, taking points, etc”
3- And last and not least, I’ve played mesmer just as long as you, and I can pretty much guarantee that if you do not run a stun breaker vs high level players as far as a 1v1 build for dueling then you are going to be killed every single time. Which pretty much means everyone in the video you posted is not even footage worthy.
I’m sorry to break it to you, but somebody had to let you know. If you honestly think my words are false, run the same exact build, and message me in game, and duel me in Spvp. I will be glad to tone down that ego trip of yours.

Possible ways to make Scepter worth picking up
1- Put torment on a offensive ability such as scepter 3. Also it should be noted that the activation time on scepter is way too slow, taking half of the channel to get 1 confusion stack and you wonder why people don’t run this.
2- The auto attack on scepter has to be by far the worst thing I’ve ever seen. It’s slow, clunky, and easy to dodge. The auto attack needs to be faster, and also a good idea for scepter would be to add 1 stack of torment per auto attack, or atleast every 2 auto attacks.
Edit: Also note that if you were to change torment it should be one of these things and not both, any more would be a bad idea.
But my point is adding torment to a defensive ability in my opinion was a bad idea. the ability itself is easy to read, and the time spend trying to bait the person to attack you is not worth the payoff, cheers.

Not exactly convinced by the sudden non-viability of phantasm builds – there are a couple of things you seem to be overlooking.
-> Phantasms have more health – signet of illusions even applies immediately, great. This is also likely why vengeful images was nerfed.
-> A whole bunch of other things got buffed and can easily be relevant to your build.
-> You can just not take illusionists celerity. You get a different trait and it even comes with useful stats for your build such as crits or power.Honestly I just worked around it… I run a mantra/phantasm build where I didn’t have room for all the traits I wanted anyway. Now my phantasms stick around for long enough to do more damage or even get healed, mind stab doesn’t immobilize me, berserker works properly again and I even have phantasmal fury.
Try something new… interrupt builds are pretty obvious, mantras have been coming up, stealth builds should be near invulnerable now, inspiration line shatters can do interesting support, scepter block looks seriously painful and 3 signet builds can really exist and work together. Combine some of the above… see what happens.
In spvp yesterday I fought a stealth specced mesmer with condition bomb clones. He was awesome. He constantly stealthed his clones and had a tanky gear setup so with the boons he gained from his decoy/torch skill he was holding a single point against my warrior and another engi while his clones died quick to our aoes (i run longbow), they swept us with cripples/weakness/vulner etc.
This patch is a great thing for mesmer build diversity, people should accept that and make new builds instead of crying and trying to make the old ones work over and over XD

I know that leaderboard decay is already going to be a thing so of course I’m not going to mention that. However I feel the following needs to be addressed.
1- Why are the current leaderboards based off the individual player and not a team? I understand there needs to be some sort of option added to guild wars 2 to differentiate a “team” from a “guild”. Currently the only way is to make a guild with a team name and call it the team. The two should be each their own. A guild when it comes to guild wars 2 Spvp ONLY is meaningless. Of course when it comes to pve, and world v world there is of a meaning and benefit to being in a guild.
The solution to this would require two things. First a complete rework of the leaderboards would be required, base the rankings based off each team, NOT each player. Therefore by doing that not only would you require each team to stick together longer and work together, but you would in turn have more active teams playing. Therefore promoting more people to create teams and join in and compete. The more teams that play, the more attention for the game, which will spark new players that have not played yet. It’s a win win.
Number 2 would be making a team based slot for the current team your currently with. This team “whatever the name of the team is” will be what’s shown on the leaderboards. Also there should be a rule that only the 5 members who have played the majority of games with said team will be displayed based off how good or bad they do on the leaderboards, "Or atleast something to differentiate the number of games each player has played . So for example, if you have 5 players to start. And a sixth member joins in, then the #6 guy will not have his name displayed on the leaderboards until he plays a majority number of games, therefore earning his place on that particular team.
The next topic is SPvP roster Signup
This has been bothering me ever since guild wars 2 was released, and it continues to bring down the game. The fact that you can swap out characters in a tourne game is utterly pathetic. Never in a organized game like this have I ever seen such abuse when it comes to counter comping, and swapping out a character for another one in mid match to attempt to gain a advantage over the opposite team.
I’ve seen time and time again how the teams would go in, check out their composition and then character change because they feel as if they would lose because of what they brought to the table. My response to this is simple. If you honestly feel the need to swap out characters in a attempt to counter comp then you honestly don’t deserve to play Spvp. Not only does it undermine the entire thought process of team synergy, but it’s just downright cheap. I’ve seen people treat it like e-bay in a sense. swapping out characters until the timer runs out before the match starts. And whoever is the quickest or the last to switch responding to the opposing team wins, because they counter comp’d last.
My solution to this problem is to lock your characters when you register for a tourne. It’s a simple solution, that would make Spvp so much more fun. This promotes teams to synergize with the comp that they feel would do well, NOT to go with another comp last minute based off what team they face.

The last topic is Seeing the team your facing before the match starts.
Personally I don’t think you should be able to see any roster at all in Spvp. Period. This actually tests teams to actually think on their feet, to be able to devise certain strats based off what team there facing ON THE FLY. Of course it’s common knowledge that teams currently playing have strats that work well against some compositions but on the flip side do not work well against others. Not being able to see the team your facing until the game physically starts would give things like the element of surprise meaning again. This idea also has no negative aspect’s to it when it comes to balance and fairness, and would be a great addition to guild wars 2 along with the rest of ideas I presented in my humble opinion.

1- When you que for a 5v5 spvp match, your characters should be locked ikittengnup, preventing the teams from counter comping each other. It’s cheesy, pathetic, and brings down Spvp as a whole.
2 – More build diversity, possibly more weapons in the future as well.
3 – A total rework of the current leaderboards, It needs to be team based instead of individual based. Which will also help team creation as well.

Hello this is Countless if you don’t know me. I’ve noticed something in this game that is quite the thorn when it comes to getting things rolling when it comes to the pvp scene, and that is the lack of teams being created. There are a few reasons for this, and I will give possible solutions for the problem.
1) Leaderboards – Leaderboards are the primary reason why most people don’t make teams in guild wars 2. Thankfully you have custom games to scrim against other people and to get your feet wet when it comes to getting your rotation down, ruffing out the kinks, etc. But the way the leaderboards are being established is by a person to person basis……my question is why?
2) The Current Team Creation
The purpose of a guild and a team is pretty much intertwined when it comes to SPvP, most people who want the fancy title just make a separate guild and only invite the current roster of people who want to be on the current team. I believe there needs to be a separate tab or atleast something to distinguish team creation. A guild should not be for a 5 man roster interested in ranked games.
3) No consequences for leaving a team
By only giving people a individual rating, it only puts back team creation as a whole, because when you win or lose a team game your only thinking about yourself “when it comes to rank” your not thinking about your team. This by itself is what is creating the elitist high horse type of mentality, and the type of player who hops from team to team only after a couple of losses. losing is learning, and learning is winning. These type of players is what is hurting the community when it comes to SPvP, and quite frankly your system is promoting such behavior, but this can always be fixed so don’t worry.
-THE SOLUTION-
The only way to make this better would be a entire reworking of the leaderboards as we currently see it
- You currently scrap the current leaderboards, you base it off of who’s TEAM has the highest rating, not the player. By doing this you give the community a reason to jump start team creation, get in and start competing. There is pretty much no reason for this to fail because you have the custom arenas to polish your skills before going in and competing. You could argue that you could do this now with the current player ranked leaderboards but that still does not promote people to make teams.
- And if the team based leaderboards were created, it should only show the players on said team who play the majority of those games to get to that rating ONLY. Because there will still those people who jump from team to team and that’s fine, but their name should not be shown since they have not put in the same time and commitment as the other players on the team to acquire said rating. This feature should be enough to get those team hoppers reason to stick with a team for the long run.
- There still should be a personal rating, but only as a benchmark for the player, something secondary at best. The team rating should be what’s important with this type of play. So possibly a achievement or something similar should suffice to let himself and others know that he is a high rank when it comes to his abilities as a player.
Hopefully this idea will be incorporated into the game someday, I really feel that it would be fair, and positively affect the SPvP community as a whole. And thanks for reading

This was more of a random thought to make conjured weapons more viable in team fights for ele’s. Here is my example.
The Ele conjures a weapon-
Any class other than a ele on the same team picks up the conjured weapon, however when said person picks up the weapon it only replaces the weapon/weapons they currently have out at the time they picked up the conjured weapon.
So for example, if a mesmer has sword pistol & Greatsword. And he goes over to the weapon and picks it up as sword pistol was out, then the conjured weapon will technically replace the swap of the sword pistol for the duration of the skill. So for the duration the mesmer would be able to run the conjured weapon & be able to swap to his secondary weapon.

Because other people are being kitten doesn’t mean someone is especially ‘self entitled’ for making it want to stop.
There is literally no way to duel in this game or scrimmage short of the hundreds of open SPvP servers.
Asking a random pug guy zoning in to go to one of the other servers to mindless kill people is little trouble on their part, yet the other way around is a pain for you when it means moving servers every 5~ mins and in the end forcing the pug to leave since no one else is there….Its manners, people don’t close doors on random other people’s faces…. I mean there is nothing we can force to happen about it but that doesn’t make it their actions at all alright.
With regards to OP, I rarely SPvP but when I do it was REALLY common.

So… I decided to give pvp a try.
To get itno the game a friend of me suggested to duel a bit.
That went quite well… until other players joined.
I thought: “Okay, let´s tell them kindly that we want to duel here”
So I did but I was ignored and I even posted it in grp chat, team chat and map chat…
I even whisperd some who told me that they dont read the chat.So I was like “okay, this is hot join maybe that wont be an issue at a normal tpvp match?”
My hopes were soon shattered…
Simple questions and notifications were ignored with only a few exceptions.Is that normal or did I just have a bad day? o.0
And why are people even ignoring the chat to begin with? I think communication is very important to get good results.
