Release time Halloween ?

due to any number of circumstances there seems to be a delay, and when there’s a delay on something asking for a time only has one answer:

“When it’s ready!”

Will all levels be able to fully participate?

I’d prefer there’s more 80 stuff myself. Orr areas were very bugged at launch in that area. Never even got the proper reward out of the final gift. Waypoint costs are crazy so people just Orr farm. We’re rather neglected.

But I guess I see that a lot of people didn’t appreciate the story and didn’t play through at all and want stuff on holidays too.

Up to Anet.

I’m assuming they want people to actually get these things. Like 20% drop rate on getting one of the halloween skins.

Otherwise… they could end up seriously alienating some people who plop down real money if it’s too hard.

There’s also nothing to say you won’t find a collector that gives the weapons or something like that. I’d keep an eye on things as they develop.

Moral ambiguity, believable villains and future opportunities

TurtleofPower.5641

But with a little work and some clever writing, Arenanet can turn these conflicts into a real, engaging story, where difficult choices are made that leaves the player questioning… did I do the right thing? Did the end justify the means? Did I really join the right side?

Please, no. I appreciate that you take the time advocate for your position, but it isn’t really something I want to see in this game at all.

Look at this way. The player is confronted with a choice A,B, or C. Each path does something positive but it also punishes him, someone dies or something. Well, most players don’t want to make anyone die. At least not from something that seemed like an innocent choice. So suddenly you’ve… basically really annoyed them, if not got them to stop playing because every choice had one of those negatives attached.

This is the problem with this “moral ambiguity” in relation to a game. The player has to have an illusion of having a free will similar to what they’d want to have. If faced with a situation in their virtual world where they’re on the hook for every irritating consequence going on, all it really does it make a game that’s too frustrating for most people to play out.

Now, I don’t mind if they make some kind of system like this that allows people to opt out in a fun fashion. But they never do. All the games that put choices and moral quandary in games just heap it on you too much and it gets to be grating.

It is to my great chagrin that I state: The World is Static

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

Well these things are written on paper, converted to a PC screen, tossed in animation and sound effects.

To make it not seem static after multiple viewings would literally require magic.

The only thing they can really add is more randomization or more live content updates. The former could help a little (i.e. different boss shows up for the fight than you expect, a dynamic quest has several possible branches that might occur, etc) but random has limits too. Everything has to be made and bug tested and go through all that. Same reason live content takes awhile.

So we can hope they mix things up, but realistically we’re still playing something along a typical RPG model. It’s not likely to get TOO crazy out there in Tyria.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TurtleofPower.5641

If gamers were sociable they’d be out of the house instead, or have a group of friends to play with from real-life in the game. I mean, that’s just the breaks really. You could make people “socialize” a bit more with content more like GW1 but then again they weren’t socializing. They were saying stand over there or don’t aggro that. People are playing the videogame to get some game reward and it’s a lot less likely they’re doing it to meet people.

What the heck… first the gifts were bugged (never got those replaced by the way) and now I learn that ridiculous fight was just bugged and Zhaitan actually wanted to go at it? Several story quests were also bugged for me. This is really sad. I love ANet but to think they let the majority of their hardcore players see the crap endgame area already… Oh well.

Hit level 80...what's left to do but grind out gear skins?

TurtleofPower.5641

Well, honestly you’re right. One game can’t be all things. If you want a super tight action game you might have to play some other ones. (SP though) I think GW2 is great but not everyone will want to play it every day.

I do wish some things had been true. I wish you could be useful anywhere in the world at 80 and not just farm Orr for the auction house. (Feels sadly like Diablo Inferno end game, except it’s kind of fun) I wish the event system would accommodate us and instead of throwing us out of the rest of the world with high travel costs and low karma reward outside of Orr.

But… it’s still an incredible game to me. There’s just so much to do on any character. To be bitter with as much content is the game has is weird to me.

Don’t know what you want really. People only play Team Fortress 2 for the new drop updates and that’s an FPS. Well, GW2 will have new updates as well, but they put in a bunch of cool stuff you can get right now if you want to play a ton.

I think people are just being silly about the “ANET SAID THIS” stuff. It happened the last game too. Just relax a little bit and realize it’s entertainment but not a genie’s lamp that can do everything.

Why are people crying anet not listening?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Part of it is just maturity level. Whenever I see someone say, “Oh wow this skillpoint is bugged ANet only cares about the gem store” in map chat… I know they’re sort of ignorant of the truth. They’re not realizing the massive, massive scale of this game. It takes time to deal with the issues.

People just need to relax and realize ANet loves to utilize your bug reports and gameplay enhancement ideas. Keep those coming. However, you really don’t need to be melodramatic or super bitter about it. That part you’re just doing for no reason, because they do care about their community and their game. Of course, people will keep being rude because as I said it’s a maturity thing and it can take a really long time for people to understand that you don’t need to act that way.

What game? You mean WoW? Not everyone on the planet has even had a WoW account popular to belief. I thought that game was the epitome of empty grind when I played a demo.

A lot of people already like ANet from GW1 and are more than happy to stick with GW2 through every update and expansion.

One thing people should realize is this game will be around for many years. You don’t need to do everything there is to do it immediately.

How do you get passed straits of devastation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

Just run and put on skills that are about avoiding being killed. It’s quite doable.

The map stinks though because almost all the player population (that you need for events) is just farming two events. It’s not anyone’s fault but the designers really, because it’s easy to go to Lone Post waypoint and do the 2 repeating events with everyone. But the trouble is the map is empty and it should give you tons of NPCs or something to deal… it doesn’t. So you just have to run, and navigate some mazes.

Anyone else feel like Orr is boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

I’m starting to ditch my level 80 character for new ones. Orr does that to you.

To give some constructive changes:

1. Issue: The “army” of enemies isn’t a fun thing to deal with in Orr, with the aggro system. It’s like covering a map completely in the gaming version of mosquitoes and expecting us to have fun. We’re trying to have fun but something’s buzzing in our ear and chewing on our arm every second.

Fix possibilities: Delete most of the enemies. Or massively nerf the health of most of them. Or make them patrol so that we can let them pass, rather than have to wade into their aggro with no choice.

2. Issue: the events feel Pee Wee league and don’t suck the player in. The lore falls apart in motivating us. It feels like the place is just a bunch of garbage piles. There should be a recolonizing effort or a power or something important, besides lazy soldier outposts that don’t even help you do anything. The rest of GW2 works on building up region so much that you can’t just quit doing that at Orr… it’s like going back to an “old” MMO…

Fix possibilities: For one thing Orr needs something more than faceless soldiers to defend and it needs to be a theme you see all over the place. Other areas you can almost feel yourself befriending, but Orr is missing that feeling.

That’s all I feel like writing for now but others have lots of ideas. Let’s hope ANet realizes how important Orr could be to the game.

Repeating renown heart quests

in Suggestions

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

My main issue with GW2 endgame is that it’s not as fun. Catching DE’s in a map is extremely tricky, and sticking to a farming zerg is feels like a childish solution to the problem. (Since you abolish all challenge running with the zerg.)

I like the 1-70 experience a lot because it was about me doing my thing in this beautifully developed game.

That said I think once you beat Zhaitan you should be able to repeat any renown heart you’ve done once a day.

This would give people an option to be a farmer or to just do events again for fun and karma.

Level 80 Player's Problems With the Undead (Orr/Risen) Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

Agreed, on most stuff. The looks I do understand because it’s exactly what the lore is… a sunken city that rose.

But the polish of the zone is way off. The entire game is fun up until that point and then it’s just like someone decided to remove everything elegant from zone design and call it a day.

Even worse I logged in today… paid 3 silver to go back to Orr and finish the last quest of the game… and the dungeon was contested so I couldn’t. It’s just like nothing in Orr is the positive experience GW2 usually reinforces. And I like challenge but dungeons do that better than Orr.

Eh they can sometimes be boring. You have your weapon skills that never change and the most dry bones set of utility skills in the game. The elites aren’t even amazing to look at like they’re supposed to be.

Holy Trinity Removal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

The trinity is played out, and finding groups isn’t fun with it.

However I think GW2 could do more with group gameplay. Right now group play is basically focusing fire, and helping the occasional downed player.

Champion fights are watching a bar go down.

It just feels kind of like strategy doesn’t really matter that much.

One big problem perhaps is that cause and effect feels weak. Instead of a melee character making their work count by knocking down that bad boss with their hammer… the boss just flicks up immune and tells you to DPS more or get out. In this example I’m saying that the boss shouldn’t just be a big ball of hit points that you wail on forever and kills you with super attacks. Instead, why not have a cool weakness to the boss like knockdown lasts extra seconds… you see, then they can start to build scenarios where people are doing things to make their effort focused and not just mashing through combat.

The trouble is this means a pretty large boss redesign at the very least. I’ll do it for cheap if they’re hiring, though!

It's expensive to play with low-level friends.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

Yes, the costs are extremely prohibitive of letting you do whatever you feel like. Considering the game grooms that feeling of freedom and leisure for most levels… it’s a bad mechanic to make your endgame character worse to play.

I recommend either:

- Straight up reduction in costs. 1s should top out as the max fee. We have LOTS of other stuff to sink money on, except for the rich best power traders… and there’s nothing you can do to make a big enough sinks for them. As it is this kind of sink DOES NOT effect them, only normal players.

- Have Discount Travel Tickets. This item reduces waypoint fees by 75% for 24 hours. Get one from karma, every time you do a map completion, black lion chest, etc…

Thank you!

why does the personal story turn you into a human?

in Norn

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

Anyone else notice as the game goes on that there’s absolutely no “norn-ness” to how you act in dialogues? The funny thing is I picked barbaric choices with that seemingly unused feature that tracks your personality… and the way my norn acts in cutscenes is like a human Boy Scout more than anything. He’s so friendly, and diplomatic! He’d fit right in at Divinity’s Reach. The whole drinking, boasting, punching, and worshiping animals is completely absent from his personality.

Another thing, it never referenced my choice of spirit animal in the entire game. So what did I pick one for? To decide which elite costs 30 skill points?

All in all, I’m a bit suprised that they didn’t play up the norn-ness. Asura stuck to their character role and everyone loves it. In the future content if you could make us norn more like norn again, that’d be cool Anet!

What on earth happened here? The design of "Straits of Devastation" is horrible.

TurtleofPower.5641

They’re in the heart of enemy territory. You’re standing in front of Zhaitans stronghold, a dragon with almost unlimited minions at his disposal. Of course it’s not going to be a walk in the park.

Except it is a walk in the park. I’ve never died running around trying to get to story waypoints. It’s just irritating to be constantly engaged in combat when you aren’t interested, and irritating that are lots of blocked off routes… high road and low road not connecting. Sure a lot of events are “hard” but that’s because there’s population issues in the area. When people zerg on something it rolls over like every other area.

I wish I felt like you that it was a cool challenging area, but it just feels more like the poorly tested area compared to how smooth and accessible other areas play.

Uh, no it isn’t. In fact you’re way, way off. I got to 80 and used extra gold to get a free character slot, and still have all my crafting mats and 2g50s left. It’s not that we’re completely broke, it’s just the mechanic isn’t remotely fun. Suddenly everyone is walking just because it makes more financial sense, but it really isn’t fun to be dodging monsters (and getting that slower combat speed tossed on you constantly) for a couple minutes just to get somewhere else.

TurtleofPower.5641

It’s decent. Only thing is there’s very, very little to do to change things up at 80 (nearly there right now.)

By then you’ve experimented with probably every weapon combo and just greatsword through everything because it takes the least time. I feel like the other weapons need not necessarily a buff… but a mechanic adjustment to make them as desirable.

Is it actually possible to melee in dungeons?

in Warrior

Posted by: TurtleofPower.5641

TurtleofPower.5641

It’s possible if you’re going to chain an Endure Pain, a heal skill, maybe some defensive banner build, and condition removal. Of course teammates helping buff you is better too. Your stats should be to bulk up your health and healing and not damage.

But at any rate melee still drew the short straw in dungeons. We have to play harder for the same rewards.
