The stuff we got so far feels like an ARG / teaser stuff. Honestly with that limited content the way to promote it would be to NOT promote it. Let the players find it on their own and then wonder what in the heck is going on.

They messed up by announcing it and putting heralds and mailing players… Those are good systems to use when big content has arrived but bad systems to use when you’re putting teaser content in.

I admit I’m getting burnt out on grind.

Examples:

- Unfinished dailies don’t even carry over – so it is a grind to do them when you don’t feel like.

- All the building time and influence gates on guild missions kind of suck. Have one problem with a guild event turning out alright, and it really irks a ton of people with the costs, organization, and effort involved.

- WvW progression is coming and of course you know that’s going to be about time put in.

- Fractals and dungeons are based on grinding them repeatedly.

I like ANet a lot but I do feel their focus right now means we’re not getting content that’s as based on fun as it is on carrot on a stick.

I’ve also noticed that, yet again, the goalposts have been shuffled backwards a little. Now the story is four months long? It was originally a Jan/Feb patch, then they pushed it back to being just a teaser for Jan and Feb/March would be the bulk of the patch. Now, everything up to now was just “teaser” stuff, and the real bulk of the content is for March and April. If this patch isn’t significantly large and we’re later told that it was just more “teaser” material, I’m going to be extremely disappointed. Just be honest with us, guys….if you need to push content back, push it back and then tell us that you needed more time. Simple. Don’t overhype the patch as being huge if it’s not huge.

Colin went on record saying that after the rush of the Lost Shores and Halloween patches, they’ve switched back to a “when it’s ready” model of development.

Expect more delays with higher quality releases going forward.

Other than that, we’ve known Flame and Frost was a 4 part series since the second week of February.

Well let’s be honest it didn’t deserve headliner billing for the Jan/Feb patch.es It’s not a real part of the first 2 patches of 2013, but teased as some future content.

Jan was about laurels/guesting/end of free transfers/lots of random fixes.

Feb was about guild missions/more fixes and adjustments.

Which is fine but it’s odd that they billed F&F events as the headliner. It has definitely not been so far and now it’s a situation where it almost feels like they need to “make up” for two missing months as much as kick something off finally. We’ll see what happens I guess.

So far there’s not really anything to it so we don’t know about your question. The Jan/Feb patches used the Frost & Flame name but really they’re about other stuff.

I don’t get why some people think smaller guilds should merge into larger ones for this, or that players should leave what they are otherwise happy with for something they don’t want.

Well then don’t do it if you’re stubborn. But the GMs were designed with a certain goal which was not a party-sized instance like dungeons and fractals, but to create something more unique and open world. If you’re opposed to talking to anyone in game though and joining a bigger guild, then don’t do it. No need to get mad about it, just understand what the content is.

I never see people mad that fractals wasn’t a 128 player dungeon for example… but maybe there could be one some day. The point is there’s new content every month. It’s silly to gripe too much about one type that is clearly working to achieve the aims it was supposed to.

Well, our guild finished our first T1 bounty mission today. I’m pretty happy with how this content turned out. I’ve never seen this much guild conversation in this game. Any guild I joined before was dead quiet… but things have really done a 180 in response to this content. I think ANet has hit the nail on the head in getting the sleeping PVE side of the game to wake up. They were smart to sort of push the playerbase into making this content work for them (get a big guild, afford the upgrades, coordinate a 15 zone bounty, etc…) Those are challenges people can rise to and at the same time just start to realize the fact that there are other real people playing the game. They aren’t just graphics.

Having just tried a T1 bounty with my small guild. We had about 5 people for this. Don’t even bother unless there are people on the map willing to help you.

You can see in any guide that there are 15 targets to cover. Of course there’s a problem there if you did it with 5 people. Why not just rep a big guild and still hang with your buddies?

Supposedly next month it starts for real.

So far my opinion of the teaser is well it’s been pretty weird and felt a bit disconnected from the game. The achievements list and finding these things in the world is also really awkward.

If it’s supposed to engage the player… it should do that directly. Not expect us to root around with everyone on a map thoroughly confused.

I also have to say: JUST ADD QUEST JOURNALS TO THE GAME.

They aren’t that evil and we really need a container for some things.

I like that buffs are coming for your character. I hope you can’t use them all at once though. It would be better if it helps make people a specialist at this or that.

Who cares what gear you have at 80 anyway? Even rare level is fine. Exotic is nice.

You realize at some point the extra creep in Ascended stuff will become virtually FREE right? Soon as there’s a big expansion or something, it will be. You don’t need those things now, so don’t expect it to be cheap. Same as Legendary weps.

Those are two very easy options that you won’t do because “you’re not on the map” when the game has a waypoint system? Only took about 10-15 minutes a piece on those.

multi-person vehicles and siege for WvW

Do you recall those fun moments in battlefield type multiplayer games where you’re just riding along in someone else’s vehicle to the objective? Those were always so much fun to me.

Oddly enough GW2 has a huge battleground but nothing that groups and bonds people like that.

Here are a few proposals:

The small transport – a wheeled vehicle or beast of burden that carries 3 people at once. It would have good movement speed (hard to ballpark what that should be but suffice to say, it would feel faster than walking). The balance to this is that a transport would have low ‘health’ and be costly, perhaps 50 silver or more. It might also need another so-called “risk” versus the benefit to it, so perhaps it would blow up and kill the people in it if attacked while they’re in it. Possibly asuran technology/hovercraft like.

The big armored transport – an “oh god look what’s coming” kind of bad boy that can carry 8 people, has significantly more health than the small transport, and has a gunner position with something similar to arrow cart potential. Of course it would be expensive and be 2 gold, but at only mildly less speed than the the small transport, it has great potential. It could also be used for defensive hijinks since riders would not take damage inside it. Of course the vehicle itself could be wrecked eventually. Possibly charr-inspired looks.

Cooperatively used siege I think would be cool as well, but I won’t write out full specs for that since you get the idea.

I wasn’t under the impression they agreed to or have the magical ability to put out 10 dungeons worth of new content every month.

As it is we’ve seen updates like Mad King, Fractals, Wintersday already which all had tons of new assets and items.

I don’t blame you for wanting to this Fire & Frost thing to actually you know… happen, but I also am very excited about guild missions. They give me a reason to play the game more co-op style.

This looks awesome. I joined a really active guild about a month ago… they constantly recruit and we have tons of active people, but we have had almost NO reason to play together. Having a reason is really exciting, and the trailer looks sweet.

I don’t find it boring.

But I do think they should focus at least these two things:

1. Build variety really is bad right now. There is no fairness in getting to level 80 only to realize your options are actually worse than ever because you’ve got to buy a whole ton of the right gear for the right build, and there’s very little you’re going to be able to do feel like your character is open-ended again.

2. Replaying areas in lower level PVE is not happening by design. They need to be much faster at solving this.

How could you possibly believe that? It refills at a very slow pace meaning other people can’t build the siege they need on the map, can’t upgrade, can’t enjoy the actual point of the mode because you’re messing around and hurting your own team like a real winner. All for meaningless cheevos.

If that’s your attitude then the best thing for the devs to do is not ever add another WvW cheevo.

zergs are gw2 achilles heel.

Having people show up isn’t a weakness, it’s a good thing.

They just have to keep changing the gameplay up and learn to create monsters and events that are fighting and interacting with a SWARM simultaneously, not one or two people.

It’s impressive new territory so I’m willing to wait for them to really get it to be awesome, but I think they will.

Stopped reading once guild missions was announced PvE only. I’m out if the March patch doesn’t deliver.

You can already make your own WvW raid party with your guildies… so… kinda missing the point man.

I’m crossing my fingers here. I mean this is something I really want and will be a huge help to getting the guild to do other things together besides WvW.

But let’s be reasonable… this is something that’s hard to balance. It might not be that amazing first try. They’ve got to balance group sizes, length of these challenges, replayability… results could we weird at first.

The important thing is it’s coming because it can be something major to build on.

I hate the dailies. It feels like you log on to do a chore now.

Completely grindy objectives that really need another look. How is going into a low level lake to kill aquatic monsters anything but a stupid time sink? Or having to go to a map with dead NPCs if you haven’t got the revives?

The majorly unfortunate thing about dailies is they even out more towards 4-5 hours of “not paying attention” and getting them anyway play, or an hour focusing on them. That’s a really bad design for something that’s really so inconsequential.

It’s not about good experiences so much as an arbitrary grind to shut up the grinders.

Personally, I’m just looking forward to the next stages of things, for the living story to get good and maybe get some new fractals.

Josh, I hope you keep in mind the feet of bigger characters can be a confusing blob of heavy armor with a much more finicky hit box too. I’m shocked playing an asura character to max about how much smoother jumping in is than on my norn, that seems to be “stuck” on just about every part of a scenery.

Player count on map seems broken on Yak’s Bend. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the queue being broken so it thinks there are people on that aren’t… or WHAT but we have hours wait time and then 50 people on EB.

No. As it is I feel like they basically give away character slots and bank stuff (which is sweet) but they have to actually SELL something to keep making the game. Yes, I know people throw money at fluff but still… core things like expansions should cost money.

This, again much life transfers, should be announced at the last minute. There ARE a lot of screwball servers out there that have the first thought on every announcement is how they can exploit it.

That said hope it all helps the balance. As some have said mid tiers have been the ones to really get terrible broken matches and we’re waiting for that to end.

I shouldn’t have to go outside the game to find info about how to even begin to participate. Talking to the Refugee Coordinator should at least had set me on the path of where to go.

You can find out what you’re doing under the achievement for it.

I do agree though they badly need to wrap up holiday/living story system stuff up under one new ‘quest’ type system. It’s a bit bonkers to see map chat explode with the same questions for an hour.

I am so confused as to what to do here. I went to wayfarer and I went to every star, lit every campfire, and picked up items off the fallen refuges to turn in. Sooooo.. is that it? Am I missing something to do with this because I did not feel like I accomplished anything.

It’s just how they do “living story” if it’s anything like Guild Wars 1: Guild Wars Beyond updates.

Things trickle out and sometimes something added might be very minor feeling like today, but it builds up to major story stuff.

It’s actually a really cool system and people will definitely appreciate it as they play more. The kneejerk reactions are silly to me, but I guess gamers aren’t a patient lot these days.

I don’t. I don’t treat “extras” like that as part of the main game. They’re to GIVE SOMETHING TO DO for people that play again and again. Just like dailies. Just like PVP. There is no truth whatsoever to say you need a legendary to keep playing the game in any area of the game.

Go to an area where a champ wiped all the NPCs? Town of Nageling has that giant event all the time. Or go into WvW? Sorry that something pretty obvious is that hard for you.

Crafting is ok with me – forced grouping is not. To complete the daily you have to “do combo with ally”. I am a solo player. I do not want to group. I HATE forced grouping. This is a shame. Now that I can’t get my karma potion alt leveling is over and so, I guess is my time with GW2. I did enjoy my 5 months but time to move on.

Um, they change the dailies every single day now. So nobody cares if you leave but might be a pretty premature reason.
