I think that one of the huge problems of PvP/MM is that many people join the ranked arena queue to complete the daily. These people are a pain in the kitten for those that try to enjoy PvP, and have an unfair behaviour with their team mates, going afk, or joining with classes that they don’t know how to use.

A solution to this problem could be forbid that dailys could be completed in a ranked arena. I think that is a harmless solution and that could be just advantageous for everyone. If someone need to complete the daily could join a hot join arena queue and complete that fastly.

It’s frustrating playing with players that die like flies and that don’t know how holding the role that their class should have.

People should understand that PvP is not PvE.
You can’t play always in the same way, you have to adapt your strategy to the classes in your team and in the team against yours, you have to adapt your strategy to the map you are playing in and if you are losing or winning for just few scores.
A military fight is not won always with the same movements.

Besides, there is something called kittening rotation, a mystical thing that nobody seems to know about…at least in low divisions.

When you get a 12 streak loss/win, I think that yes, MM is broken, if you join in solo. If you join as a premade you can even don’t lose/win a match, but matches should be balanced and a streak of the same result means that it’s not, imho

I’m trying really hard to not full this post of bad words, but I think that matchmaking is still the same of the last season where if you start losing, you keep losing all the kittening day. I had a 12 streak loss after 1 victory.
I won’t complayining about ignorant people that accuse everybody to not doing their job, in an arena, but I think that they are frustrated as much as I am, because this PvP is really becoming not funny.

It’s working for me (at least the patch is beeing downloaded).
I couldn’t launch, patch, repair, unistall or reinstall the game, but now the first 2 problems are solved.

High-Risk/Effort:High-Reward should be the center of balance in PVP mechanics but with the recent overhaul of the entire trait system and changes to condition (burning), it seems like you’re left with 2 choices: use one of the widely abused OP builds or don’t and work harder to match some imbecile facerolling a Rampage Warrior.

This is exactly the problem: ANet removes characteristics from traits (and I still didn’t understand why) to give players more diversity about builds, but the effect was exactly the opposite, reducing this variety considerably.

I mean think about it, has there ever been a game to promote itself around balance…of course not….its about finding the most exploitative build and using it. AKA meta…. others will run their favorites. Then these same people will come on the forums and complain. Its the life of gaming these days.

And what happen when every profession is uncontrollable or can’t be countered by any other professions? I think that is chaos, battles are win by the fasterer player tha can unload all skills.

I guess PvP is pretty easy though. Or maybe I get carried a lot. A lot of the time I go on a rampage for no good reason at all. And I’m a skill clicker who plays with a regular kitten $10 mouse and keyboard combo.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my OP.

How do you determine who really wants to suceeed and who is just a pveer. How do you determine that someone playing PVE or WvW would not make a good pvper with patience and practice.

I don’t want to determine who really wants to succeed, the game should do it keeping the difficulty higher. If a plyer don’t succeed at the first time and he/she wants to become a good PvPer he/she will play even if they lose.
But if the game it’s so simple that even a newbie can kill everything just spamming his/her skills, I think that we have a problem.

If you are mainly a pvp player and you’re getting beaten by a pve player in pvp it simply means you are a noob.

I don’t know if you are good with the fact that when you have just ended a fight a player that have probably reached your level thanks to the new “easy-kill patch”, kill you just pushing some keys randomly. There are a lot of examples of this, starting from warriors (with the Juggernaut build I’ve tried to play in the same way a lot of people now play it: using random skills, and I owned 2 or 3 people with no stress) to Mesmers (they just stunlock you and you are dead, stun and attacck, stun and attack), from Necros (that in Lich form take 1/3 of your HP) to Thieves (that just spam HS and your are half dead), from Guardians to Rangers, Eles or Engis (that can stack 12 or 15 fire stack and you are dead before you can say “who am I?”). And want we speak about Eles that can almost refull themselves just using one attunement and 2 skills?

Besides when you you see that 2 fights out of 5 end with all players downed that use even their slippers to kill their enemy, well you could think that all this is really sad…

GW2 is just a btp game and so ANet has to find a way to lower the difficulties of the game to make more players happy, and I think that this happened even in PvP when developers decided to increase the damage.
Before this patch a player that join PvP had to be a good player, he/she had to find a way to kill his/her enemy reacting faster than the opponent and changing their own strategy at the moment, to save themself or to own the other player. Now things are changed.

With this high damage everybody can join PvP and feel like good players, just spamming some skills. Before the last big patch a player who just pretended to kill someone spamming his most powerfull skill was a dead player: everybody feared Power Rangers because they were really strong, or Power Necros for the same reason, but with just a little strategy a good player could kill an occasional Power Ranger or occasional Power Necros showing that there were no room for occasionally “PvPers”.
This is not true anymore. Now every player that before the patch was devoted to PvE can join the Mists and kill someone (ok, not everybody, good players are always good players, but even a newbie, now, can be a hard nut to crack) and feeling a good player just randomly unloading all his/her skills on the enemy. This means that the Mists are now full of a lot of childish people that whine in map/team chat, that leave because they are not winning, that go afk when the match could be won, and that insult other players just because they don’t play like they said or just because an enemy kill them.

And I’m really sick of this. I’m not a good player in PvP, probably I’m just a mediocre “mist walker”, but I remember that a year and a half ago, when I join the Mists firm to live this aspect of the game, I was surprised to find a lot of fair and friendly players, even in low ranks. Now I will surprise if I find a player like these.

In conclusion I know, dear developers, that you have to find a way to keep more players on the game tempting them to buy gems and spend their money, but I think that it’s not a good choice making PvP area so common, letting that all these occasionally players ruin the game to the real PvP fans even knowing that they will go back to PvE at the first occasion, leaving a messy HotM, full of raging and frustrated people. It would be probably better, even to make GW2 a good eSport, keeping the PvP area an elite area, where just people that really want to succed will stay, even if they lose, even if they suck at the beginning, even if they rage with themselves because they are not playing good, that day.

I have faith in you, ANet, and I know that you will fix all, but till that day I’ll just watch the game from far away.

Well, your ideas for UC are really big and I think that they are too much big. I mean: I would really love to see all your ideas implemented in the game, but it would take years to complete such a huge work.
Besides I think that UC was and it always been just a side aspect of the game, and according to your ideas it would become a main aspect of GW2. Again: I would really love it, but I’m trying to be realistic (and it’s hard :P).

I think that in the HoT we won’t have no water in which swim or, surely in all the new maps we will have less water than the same number of old maps in Tyria have. The problem are just two:

  • The z-axis handling is difficult, and estimating distances is a nightmare.
  • It’s obviously a lot of work to create/balance a good underwater combat system.

This is why I would apreciate more the fix of these two problems that not the complete revamp of Underwater World and mechanics that you are talking about.

Anyway, Silver, I totally agree with you: I love the UW and I would spend a lot of time, underwater, if we have Underwater mechanics more…fluid…

I would really apreciate this feature. With all this new costumes I imagine to wear 2 different pieces of head equip at the same time, something like the head medium armor that cover your mouth like a bandit and the eye-patch or the quaggan hat, for example. Or the demon blue/red/green eyes with a hood or something else.

I could even buy this feature with gems, but would be awesome to have.

(I take the opportunity even to say that wearing a hat or a hood with a character with long hair, results in seeing the hair disappear. And this is really bad when you use a female character. I don’t know if it’s a bug or what, but it’s awful :S)

Edit: the idea is just having another graphic slot to use, no double charactestircs. Just an aesthetic feature.

I totally agree with the OT. Bombs kit and mortars skins are ridiculous. The feeling is exactly that these skins didn’t get 5 minutes effort to be created. I feel the same for shortbows (just a smaller copy of the longbows, and they look really terrible), but if I have a bad skin for just one weapon I can keep it, when these bad skins start to be more than one…well we have a problem :S

Or maybe one normal-sized bomb in each hand. Or at least a stack of bombs held in both hands. Just please get rid of this big mamma bomb that craps out baby bombs everywhere you run.

I like your idea, Ausfer, and probably is the better if someone dislike the pack on your back. Even a round bomb that the Engi drop, letting it to explode on his/her feet would be better than this cackes.

Mode Preferences for PvP
Another big change coming is game mode preferences. This will allow players to pick whether they would like to play Stronghold, Conquest, or both. Players who pick a single game mode will only go into matchmaking with players who pick a single mode. Players who pick both will be matched with a preference toward players who pick both, but may be matched with another group that picked Stronghold or Conquest. Once matchmaking is complete, players will be presented with a selection of maps appropriate for their preferences. For now, Stronghold-only players will skip map selection.

Something is moving under the surface, we just hope that Matchmaking and alla other troubles will be solved. Camon ANet!

I know that open a thread just for this reason is a bit odd, but, camon! Those bombs seem like big explosive cackes. I feel like an old cartoon, running with these big cackes that explode when you light the birthday candle. And if you don’t like the idea to live in a “Tom & Jerry” cartoon, you can image that you are just a holiday camper bringing his water tank to the ridge tent.

I don’t know why you, ANet, removed those pretty bomb bags…besides…where the skelk our characters are supposed to take those infinite giant bombs??

Hell not only that but just let us queue while outside of HotM in general, god kitten I hate HotM now, I’ve never been stuck in 1 small pointless area for longer in any MMO, but I love the pvp so I have no choice

Seriously A-net, the whole “You might get a queue pop on a loading screen” excuse is not a good enough reason, sure maybe 1-2% of the time you might have 1 guy drop out and it will suck, but the ability to do ANYTHING other than hop around HotM and smack golems while waiting vastly outweighs this issue. Add to your list OP cause this needs to change, and you’ve got some good stuff here!

I completely agree with that. Staying in the Mists without joining the Hotjoin servers is REALLY boring. It would be great if we could queue from PvE at least.

Matchmaking- This is a thorn in the flesh. I think that the Matchmaking should create a team not just considering the level of a player (and I’m firmly sure that it doesn’t work so well though), but even the class played in the moment when the player join the queue. This could be a problem, especially for dailies, but I’m really sick to join team with 3 players with the same profession. In these cases, if there are so many people with the same profession the game could warn those players with a message saying that the queue could be longer than usual, due to the number of professions of that type.
And we could have 2 results:
1. the first one is that people that usually join Unkranked or Ranked Arenas just for the daily are naturally pushed to complete it in the hotjoin arenas,
2. the second one is that in Unraked or Ranked arenas we could have no more than 2 same professions and, more important, we could have no more people that play a class for the first time, in a Ranked or Unranked arena, just to complete the daily.
In the end MM should create team with all those people that have one or more dishonor points, letting they play all together, without ruining the game to fair player (read the AFKers and leavers idea).

Statistics and Builds – As I said before, I really hate this new way to do PvP, ANet delete the characteristics linked to the traits to create a high variety of builds, but, at least in PvP, this bring us the exact opposite effect: builds are almost the same, and now even the equip has to be the same not just for all Warriors, all Mesmers, all Engis and so on, but the same for all Condi builds, DPS builds or “Support” builds. With this new awful patch everybody must choose at least the amulet with Vitality, if they want to survive 5 minutes in the arenas.
With the old system our build, our PvP experience was spread in every single choice of the Hero Panel: we could choose just a inch of vitality using the trait, instead of the amulet, or just increase a little bit our Crit Chance using 1 trait point instead of using the Rune. Now, we have all the same number of HP, if you are using a glass cannon, a zerger or a balance build, and every Condi Engis are the same of all the others Condi Engis, as every S/D Thieves are the same of others S/D Thieves.
I know that go back on your own footsteps is a bad thing for gaming companies, but at least we could choice a ring or a trinket (just one) to give more variety to our build: I want more Vitality than everybody, because I’m a support Guardian, so I choose ring and amulet with Vitality; I’m a Condi Engi who based his Condition Damage on his Toughness, so I can take an amulet with Vitality, Power and CD and a Ring with Power, Toughness and CD.
After all is a bit ridiculous that a Bunker build has just 1 thousands HP than a DPS one.

AFKers and leavers – They ruin the game. Seldom they appear if they are losing, staying in the base or quitting the game during the match. There is a system that kicks the first or gives a handicap to the second, but I think that is not sufficient to discourage these people from leaving or going afk again.
The solution to this problem could be a way to report the afkers by the other team members, and let the player be kicked immediately. Then the system can ask to the 4 members still in the game if they want a replacement and the next player in queue can join the match. In this way if we are talking about a Ranked Arenas with a premade team, all the other members should know if the leaver is just having issues with a simple dc and decide to wait 2 minutes for his return, or if they have lost a man and they have to chose for a substitute.
To encourage people to join as substitutes they could automatically have, just for accepting to play a match probably lost, the same amount of Honor points of the first player in the winning team.
And what happen to the afkers and leavers? If they just leave one time, they receive no warnings, but if they leave more than one time, or if they were reported as afkers, they receive a dishonor score that let they join on a hide leaderboard, everytime they are reported or they leave the game they can’t join the queue for an Arena for 15 minutes, but they can enter the hotjoin server, where afkers and leavers are tolerated. The minutes of stop are cumulative for, I don’t know, a day (or even a week if it should depend on me), so they even won’t be able to join an Arena for several hours if they always be reported or if they leave more than one matche.

That’s all, I know that is a large post and I’m sorry for that, but I hope that this can help PvP Community to enjoy their arenas even more than now (or before the patch).

I know that I can be unpopular but I really don’t like this “new” PvP. A large part of this feeling is due to the high damage that every class can do, but there are even some “old issues” that a PvP player has to learn to coexist with. This is why I’m here writing some ideas to make PvP better.
Obviously not everybody will totally agree with me, but probably will agree with just one or two of these ideas, so please, if you have positive critics please answer to this post, if you haven’t, just spend your time in another way.

Map picking system – First of all I want to speak about the map picking system. I’m not sure how it works, but I think that is a bit weird that a lot of times the map chosen is the one with less votes than the others. It seems that this system completely ignore the percentage of people chosing the same map. It happens even that with 7 or 8 votes on the same map and just 1 with another map, the system picks the map with that one vote.

Good/bad maps – This is a problem. A lot of people hate Courtyard and Skyhammer (I know, that 50% of people who will answer this post love these maps, but we have to be realistic) and I think that moving Courtyard at least on another no-Conquest queue, now, is a foolishness, but at least we can have 2 different Unraked Arena queues: one with all the maps available and one with the same maps on Ranked Arenas.
I know that people could just queue for Ranked arenas if they don’t want to play in Courtyard or Skyhammer, but I even know that most people join Ranked Arenas only with their guild. After all the chance that a pug team can fight against a premade one are high, in Ranked Arenas.

Join the queue – I don’t say I don’t want to wait – with these ideas wwe will probably wait few seconds more -, but doing something in the meanwhile can help player to not get bored of queueing arenas. Here are some ideas:

Let us play hotjoin again while waiting for a queue pop.

There are many suggestions about how to fix this, my favourite is giving the chance to go in queue from every place, adding more time to queue pop (like 30s+) and remove time from match beginning.

In alternative (or you can do at the same time it’s not exclusive) you can rework HOTM adding interesting stuff for pvp players. I mean, you reworked Lion’s arch 3 times, you can do something for HOTM, it appears really like an old map and totally useless. Considering new PVP stuff like Stronghold, keeping an old map like HOTM is a contraddiction.

And I think that even having some golems that not just stay there waiting to be beaten, but that can apply a lot of conditions or do a lot of damage could help in the waiting, at least we could use them to test our passive skills of curing conditions or our healing power.

The sustain is there, I tried it first hand, if you build for sustain then you don’t die nearly as easily as people are saying on the forum, you die faster respect to before..but not that ridiculously fast.

It’s exactly what I’m saying and this is awful. I’ve never played a glass cannon because I don’t give a kitten of killing someone just hitting 2 keys, but now, even playing a bunker build you die so easily that you feel like a glass cannon played before this last patch. Sure, you don’t die so easily than a D/P Thief, now, but as a bunker you can’t stand against 2 people. You don’t either hold out to wait a team mate.
Seems like ANet is pushing us to play only dps, because bunker are completely useless, now. Now you just have to hit harder than your enemy.
And I’m curious to see a fight in Courtyard map, now -.-

I have to say this is how PvP should be, you have glassy players actually being glassy and defensive players/support players able to win team fights.

I don’t think you have played a “Bunker” build, ‘cause playing one of them feels you are playing a before-the-patch glasscannon build. I’ve tried a Shout Guardian and it’s a mess, I go down so easily with just against 2 condi builds.
I don’t say I want the PvP way of 2 years ago, when a bunker build could sit on a node and stay there all the time, because it was boring, but I feel that ANet have choose to “balance” the game just making all the professions REALLY soft. And I really dislike this new PvP.

The effect of this new balance, in PvP, is that the player that hits first, hits twice. So everybody with long range weapons and gg. About melees every fight will become a flashy mess where we will have 3 downed players vs 3 downed players that will try to kill the enemy with the downed skills…amazing…

Matchmaking and Map picking

I love PvP, and I love PvP in GW2, but there few things that drive me mad.

Matchmaking: it should create teams with no more than one/two people with the same class. But this does not happen.
I’ve played in team with 3 Rangers, Thieves or Necros, against team packed in good way. Obviously the chance to lose these matches is really high.

The other problem is the picking of the map…why the hell if just one man out of 10 chose that f***ing courtyard, the system picks that map?? 1 vote against 9…unbelievable.
And it’s not the first time: sometimes happen that when I choose Khylo, and I’m the only one, the game chooses that map. Sure I’m happy, but I can’t say the same thing for the other players.

And least but not last, a suggestion: leave thatkitten***g orrible courtyard map from the other maps. You can even delete it from the game, about me, but I’ think there are people that like (really???) that map, so…I don’t know, find a way to play Courtyard just for people that love fight in that map. Put it on WvW zerg, I don’t know, but I think that a lot of people that want to do PvP hate that map…We already have Skyhammer in Unraked arena, don’t punish us even with a dumb map like that.

I think that rewards work good, in sPvP, and I think that is obvious that if your team loose a match you can’t get a good personal perfomance. If your team is loosing means that you are not free to do everything you want (you are not free to cap every node you wish, you can’t kill everytime your enemies or you can’t heal allies and decap nodes), so it’s hard getting a score that is equal to even the worst member of the winning team, just because he/she probably didn’t spent a lot of time dead or roaming on both sides of map “skipping” combat.

You don’t need mathematical prove of how this work, imho. It’s clear to me that if you are a good player the system will create your team considering it, which means that probably your teammates are worst than you. Obviously if the enemy team is packed with good player, the system will pack your team with good players too, so this doesn’t mean that if you are a good player you will join always a team with noobs.

I think that the real problem of match making is create team with 2 or more same classes. I’ve played in/against team with 3 rangers, 3 necros, 3 guardians… Or in/against team with 2 couple of classes. It’s a rare thing playing with more than 3 classes.

Shortbow: ’cause it give me the idea of melee warrior. Shortbow is more wild, more feral.

Scepter: why not? I like the idea of a full plate armor character with a scepter. For the same reason using the hammer as a ranged weapon is a cool idea. And I said more: I wish TWO scepters, one for both hand.

Focus: in the main hand, same reason of the scepter.

Torch: because its a cool weapon. Evoking a spirit from the flame of your misty torch…

Shield: we are speaking of a heavy profession, aren’t we? :P

What concerns me more is that in this expansion will be implemented the “taunt”, which can be associated with the new Revenant ability to take a lot of damage, and the “healer” which will be the only one who can ress people from death (as we know from the PAX event).

You people say that “taunt” doesn’t mean that the holy trinity will be implemented again… Well I don’t know… I say that just listening about “taunt” and “healer” make me tremble…

I will only accept a cleansed Orr if:

  1. It’s new zones, rather than the three pre-existing ones. Easiest and best solution. But why would we want to go to a risenless (or less risen-filled) cleansed Orr? What would the events be? What would be the story of those zones? Unlikely, solely due to “lack of purpose”.
  2. They make a phasing situation where those who haven’t completed the Personal Story get the “old Orr” while those who did get the “new Orr” – and this is per character. But this would go against what ArenaNet claims to want – non-divided playerbases.

It would be jarring to go through the personal story with cleansed Orr maps – and even if they make it so that the story instances use a specific non-open world map, it’d be jarring to go from open world cleansed Orr to instanced corrupted Orr.

And definitely no to cutting the Personal Story. Look what happened when they changed things around for the NPE – the removal of the Greatest Fear arc should prove that players do NOT want the PS removed. Even if it isn’t the best it can be.

So in all, I’d say no thank you.

I don’t know how developers can solve the problem of “instanced” Orr, I’m not a programmer so I have no idea. But about events we can just use imagination and some information that we already have. For example all the undeads that now “live” in Orr were pirates, so why don’t create events with pirates, in a similar way of Gendarran Fields? Not the same, obviously, but hypothetically LA could be taken and controlled by Black Lion Trading Company and push all pirates to Orr.
Obviously all players who complete the PS will not go back to the old Orr.

Besides Orr is an old 80 level map, the same level of the new Maguuma, so why people, apart from the ones who need to finish their personal story, would play again in the same old Orr? Will not it became even more empty than now?

In Any case the PS wont be eliminate, it would be a huge mistake surely.
The main point is just that aNet build all GW2 game on evolving the world, on a LIVING world, I think that changing old maps could be a great way to emphasize this aspect of their brand.

Only problem is that instances load the current map instead of the time-appropriate map. It was weird when Destiny’s Edge met up in toxin-and-Aetherblade-filled LA during Scarlet’s attack, think about how weird it would be to go through the last arc of the personal story with people going on about how everything is corrupted and needs to be restored… when everything is already restored.

ANet really needs to make the personal story load its own maps instead of whatever is currently live.

The problem is that even the Revenant class will start in the same “old” way, there will be always people that need to see Orr infected and people that want to see Orr cured. So yes, ANet neet to create a new map to load just for people that already ended their PS

I don’t think that there are many players who still don’t know the end of the Personal History, in any case, if you are one of these players don’t read the text below.


We spent two years and a half playing in Tyria and fightign to reach a single goal: kill Zhaitan and purify Orr from its dragon-curse. We went through a lot of missions and finally we reached the heart of Orr letting Trahearne to end his Wild Hunt and cure the land.

Don’t you think that giving us a new reborn Orr would be great? Do you think that this would be possible?

Besides I think that giving us a revamped map could satisfy the wish of players to see some new areas except for the jungle.

My gut says August. My hopes say April. Cynicism says November-December.

I totally agree with with Yani.
Anyway, I think that would be a lot of reasons to release the game in August: same release period of GW2, more people with time to play, the possibility to organize a live event for the release.
But I’m cynic too, so I fear that this expansion will be released in November or December…

What the hell is the problem with underwater, now? -.-
Underwater world it’s amazing and, yes, it has just a scenic role, so what bother you?

i dont know why anet build up the under water system. also the underwater legendary. those are waste.

how many people will spend their game time on under water ? 1/50???

why anet not think about the get new race for under water?? like largo race.
and have main base at under water??
