While i know back in 2014 it was announced guild wars 2 (sadly) wouldn’t be coming to console
sadly
I aint sad at all, means the developers don’t have to waste time completely ruining the game just so it can be downgraded for consoles.
MMO’s were never meant for console, and that’s the harsh truth, many have tried… DC Universe, Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy… they all failed, why? because the console lacks the capacity to support large scale evolving MMOs like GW2
No, screw that. Let’s not delay the expansion for God knows how long for story content that people will play once and dump.
Nobody said anything about delays. And if there were delays, how much delay do you expect from them going “oh actually no, let’s not have that backstory, let’s tweak it a little” like, what… an hour tops? god forbid
Also, you have no concept at all how development works. This right here would take a week, minimum.
to change one statement?
“Rytlock will return and will teach others to be Revenants”
that’s pretty much the only decided upon solid story so far. currently Revenant as a whole is still being developed, so a little tweak to it’s background is hardly gonna be that time consuming when not much about the class so far is set in stone.
Also, I’m quite aware of how development works, so lemme help you down from that high horse. Story is handled by a different department to the rest of the development team, in reality, there’s going to be so many delays with other things like animation, modelling and skill-balancing that the story team will have PLENTY of free time to revise and tweak these things, since writing a story doesn’t throw coding errors or warped textures in your face if you make a mistake.

I’ve heard of him, read some of the books, and have enough respect to not beg the developers to beg for a memorial like the whole Leonard Nimoy case some weeks ago.
Threads like this don’t serve purpose here I’m afraid. Neither the time nor place.
you’d almost swear there was some kind of… I don’t know, “social media” where people could post these things instead… what a world we would live in
Maybe you’ll get around to reading forum rules too?

A friend of mine called the specialization ‘executioner’, which in itself fit for a person who brings about death, and executioners (contrary to popular beleif) wielded greatswords a lot of the time, sometimes the old beheading axe you see now and then.
Would certainly be a light armored concept rather than a full metal plate kinda deal, it’s also not the same rehashed name like death/black/shadow knight, that I’ve grown increasingly wary of when it comes to RPGs, where they’re essentially the emo version of paladins, or in this case ‘guardians’
Thanks! it does help, I’m a returning player so the whole megaserver thing was a new thing to me. I was playing way back when servers were dedicated. I guess it’s just a case of there being no available spots to migrate to
The only thing that really lured me into playing ESO was all the side-activities like fishing and stuff, and then I swiftly aborted the game when I discovered the rest of the game had no real immersion whatsoever…
I’d like to see fishing. shouldn’t be to hard right? fishing rods could have tiers like pickaxes, logging axes and harvesting sickles, and harvest ‘nodes’ that appear as bubbles on the water’s surface
Many times as a UK player have I had the strange happening where the map closes and I end up in the French, German or other non-english speaking server for some reason. I assume it’s because the game is separated into US and EU servers when dealing with migrations and EU has fewer servers and more spoken languages.
Not entirely sure what can be done about it, or if this has been mentioned before, but is there a way to ensure that when a map closes I still remain on an English speaking server? it’s pretty hard to play when you can’t understand a word of what’s being said during world events, or even local chat.
If nothing can be done, can Arenanet maybe see about doing something to help create language-matched migration?
if you don’t have hair you’d still glow, glowing is a body-related thing last I checked
that being said, does kinda suck that in order to FULLY change your hair, you would have to change the glow.
Sylvari problems I guess.
Can we just put Scarlet to pasture and move on, I’d hate that even in death she’s still ruining the story.
- Sincerely, everyone who didn’t like Scarlet
*Heart of thorn so little content revealed?
Fixed it for you
It’s a large misinterpretation by the community to assume that Rytlock becoming ‘the first Revenant’ is going to be at all chronologically solid.
Rytlock will be the first Revenant NPC to appear in game, though assumptions could be that Revenants have existed from the start (at least in personal story), and no current NPC has taken to being that profession as of yet. In the same way that the game acknowledges there are Paragons and Monks still in the world (see Guardian’s lore).
The Havroun’s for example, are Revenants by definition, with their connection to the mists and ability to channel the spirits of the wild. What Rytlock brings is nothing new, just a title, what he teaches however is probably knowledge of what HE found during his time in the mists, not everything there is to know. Possibly about ancient knowledge relating to the story.
At least, that’s my interpretation anyway, people have taken Revenant at face value.
TL;DR – Rytlock is first Reventant NPC, not first ever Revenant. Revenants are assumed to have always existed, Rytlock teaches stuff about story, not “how to be a Revenant: for dummies”

Not to burst your bubble but this is like the bazillionth thread going on about what people wanna see as specialization weapons.
maybe post what you wanna see in THOSE threads instead of making a new one?
Typically a game goes from Pay to Play, and later becomes Free to Play, not the other way around.
Look at Tinder. That just committed career suicide because they’re making people pay for benefits now. I’d hate to see it happen to GW2 too
What is Tinder?
A popular mobile matchmaking app, surprisingly successful too. Used to be free and then started charging subscription fees out of nowhere.
Practically abandoned now.

“Specializations Misinterpreted”
Well done OP, for being so far from the actual facts that you’ve managed to confuse one mechanic for another.
Candy Cane
Black Fleet Bludgeon
Magmaton/Colossus
So tempted to make a Revenant with the candy cane skin, just throwing delicious diabeetus at people.
No amount of girly outfits on asura will make up for the Lich outfit..
“Yo I heard you like nipples and hooves so here I am”
Thank you Curtis, for the prompt reply. Just to be clear, there is no “Return To Sender” button on Gem Store Gift emails?
Correct.
Really? wow… could we maybe do something about that?
A return to sender thing could prevent a lot of disputes happening, or wasted items.
I also think a timeout return? if it’s been in their mail until the date it would normally get deleted, it just gets sent back instead?
As you can probably see, Asura Cultural + Gemstore skins are pretty much common for sci-fi themes, hope you got a big wallet!
Sure, give me back 200 gems per episode then or give me something that those with Ls2 not unlocked will not get.
it’s a ridiculous notion that you should be refunded for something because it was bundled on another product a year later. do you also ask valve for refunds when games go on sale? do you lose your kitten when humble bundles happen?
the funniest part is that more likely than not, you didn’t even pay for the episodes.
No, because when a game goes on sale, i have my chance to purchase it, if i miss said sale, that’s my fault, i don’t complain saying “Sorry i missed X deadline, can i have it for free now instead?”
ArenaNet gave you 2 weeks notice to unlock each episode for free, missed that date? Then purchase the episodes, support the game you play.
Also, I had to pay for 4 of the episodes as I wasn’t aware of them being free for the first 4 during my time of not playing, but I’m not surprised you jumped the gun and made an assumption just to try and make my point seem null.
Bear in mind this expansion is also bringing in a heap of new players and returning players to the game, who would not have the S2 content because… well, they weren’t here, were they? how could they know?
Just a small suggestion, make Living Story Season 2 free with Heart of Thorns. Most of the story leading up to HoT is all living story content, which is locked to people who didn’t play during the release of each episode or purchase it with Gems.
It would seem a little silly to have the expansion’s plot rely on backstory you can’t access, you wouldn’t know what reasons your character has to chase down this new dragon, or what happened prior to the event of the pact fleet crashing into the canopy. There’s so much of this expansion that relies on players knowing current events… it’s kinda flawed when you think about it.
Would people prefer if S2 was additionally accessible to players who purchase HoT?
my vote on this would be no.
“There’s so much of this expansion that relies on players knowing current events…” like what? couldn’t the players just read the ls history for free and catch up?
Reading up game content isn’t as fun as playing it.
Which would be a rather time-consuming and annoying thing for all parts involved. And then they miss someone or something and all kitten breaks loose.
Lucky GW2 keeps receipts of purchase for each individual person’s account

It is no more ridiculous than asking for something to be giving for free yet again after the developers gave clear and open opportunity to get it for free for a long period of time (2 weeks is HUGE time to take less than 2 minutes to quickly log in and log out of a game).
Giving it free with the HoT expansion would make the expansion less valuable for those that have played the chapters already than to those that haven’t.
Giving it free with HoT would also make those that have paid for the chapters -any of them at all- feel like they’re being scammed and cheated by the developers.
They said at PAX South that they announced all the major features of Heart of Thorns as to what is being included in it (without specific details, of course). Living Story Season #2 is not a listed feature of Heart of Thorns; it will not be included in that expansion. At most they’ll include a video compiling the works of Scarlet up to and including her death, then the rise of Mordremoth right up to the Pact ships being attacked. That is what new people will get for free.
If they want to play the LS S2 chapters to get the loot items included within it and a more detailed story, then they’ll have to pay the Gold or $$ to get it. Period. End of story.
P.S. I didn’t purchase all the chapters myself, only the 1 single one I missed while I was moving and my PC with GW2 was in storage. That one was well worth paying the $2.50 for and the rest I’d unlocked via logging in to the game. Also that $2.50 chapter got me to sink in $20 worth of Gems for the game, so just as business planed by A.Net, their content baited me (welcoming) into spending money on the game’s Gem shop. How about that….
I personally don’t think it’s entirely implausible for S2 to come with HoT.
And it wouldn’t be less valuable, it’d be more valuable… how do you add MORE content and lose value? Those who haven’t got S2 would be far more inclined to buy HoT since it’d be a means to access the full arc of the story.
If you paid up for the story chapters then it’s just tough luck, as are many things like the Mystic Toilet, Black Lion Chests and Boss Rewards… maybe all those people who bought skins when they weren’t on sale should get the difference paid back to them, if that’s the logic you’re going for.
There’s more potential to make a sale with more content, unless you don’t want said content included… and realistically, S2 isn’t gonna be the kinda thing people turn down if it’s offered to them.
PS. They said nothing about what we’ve seen so far being ALL that’s gonna be in HoT, they only showed the major features, that’s it. There’s certainly more to be included/announced
(edited by Tyrannical.9348)
Sure, give me back 200 gems per episode then or give me something that those with Ls2 not unlocked will not get.
I too have paid up for some of the episodes that were recommended to me, so I’m not trying to cheap out by asking for S2 free, just putting things into perspective a little

The main problem is that when using emotes, your character’s positioning is the feet, rather than the center point like every other MMO. So emotes really don’t work so well thanks to that… sigh

World of Warcraft already did it, can’t say if it was out of respect or just for the PR (it is a dying game after all), but GW2 jumping on the bandwagon seems a little like a cheap move.
We can honor his memory as is, GW2 doesn’t need to make memorials to people who weren’t involved in the game in any way whatsoever, it’s in poor taste (looking at YOU WoW, and your painfully forced Robin Williams genie)
Improve China revenue with HoT expansion
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Tyrannical.9348
They wanted to do that with Tengu, they even wanted to make a Canthan district in Divinity’s reach, all the Asian themes were there ready to go.
Then NCsoft pulled the plug saying they didn’t like it for presumably cultural reasons at the time. The possibility of a future expansion into Cantha, and the re-release of Tengu content is a possibility, they said that much, but the most Chinese GW2 is ever gonna get is the new year events so far.
I wonder if people will actually get over themselves about the whole “rangers get no love” thing.
Clearly they do, since they were happy enough to show them off in the HoT trailer as a teaser for specializations.
Besides, they’re reworking ALL the classes, not just Specializations, so they keep up with new tech, meaning there’s gonna be a balance overhaul, and the possibility of new pets.
you can travel through time in the mists so this topic is irrelevant
I think genuine concern/curiosity is ALWAYS relevant, just cos you might have an answer doesn’t mean they do, bookah.

Racial Legends (if Racial Skills are blocked)
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Tyrannical.9348
That’s great but we’re going of hypotheticals here, as in hypothetically speaking Racial legends ARE viable compared to Racial skills. They share a similar theme but not a similar handicap
Except racial skills are handicapped for the very reason that races are not intended to be a game-play decision. That would not be different for racial legends.
in PvE, races ARE a game-play decision, otherwise they wouldnt offer the Racial Skills in the first place, would they?
The only place where race doesn’t matter is in WvW/PvP, where racial skills are removed to be fairer on the players.
Currently I’m playing Charr and having lots of fun using the Charrzooka, I love the skill and I think it helps fill in the parts of my playstyle where I’m a little less potent. So don’t tell me race means nothing friend, because it does
Anyway, people are sticking with the mindset of “Racial Skills are useless therefore anything relating to race is useless.” So, guess that wraps up the consensus here, Racial Legends aren’t viable, according to you guys

Who knows? maybe Racial Skills will be fixed so they present more value. Anything is possible with HoT, and with that note we conclude the part about Racial Skills and more onto the actual subject at hand;
If Racial Skills aren’t available to Revenants, what could replace them? do Racial Legends seem like a working idea, and what legends would be best suited from the lore?

Yeah but… this isn’t a thread discussing the viability of the current Racial Skills, it’s about replacing them with a more effective Revenant equivalent.
So, let’s not derail the subject and get angsty about something that’s gonna be completely irrelevant in practice, mh? atta boy.

I’ve heard a few things about the utility skills of Revenants being locked to your current legend. if that is indeed the plan then it’d mean that racial skills would be inaccessible. If that is the case, perhaps in it’s place, Racial Legends could be a thing?
And yes, I understand that’d mean certain races may have an advantage over others, but considering things like Avatar of Melandru and Charzooka provide a race-based set of skills, along with the Engie’s tool belt, I can safely assume this won’t break the game too much.
There’s been plenty of speculation without me adding to it, but I prefer to think this thread more of a niche-focused back-up plan should utility skills be locked and racial skills redundant… here’s some suggestions anyway, based off popular consensus, feel free to add your own

Last discussion post I had up about Specs most people wanted them earlier than level 80 (40-60ish) through a meaningful task, not just buying into it
Anyone got a count on the amount of posts nowadays that are just spoiled kids having tantrums? I lost count, guess this is how people who work in pre-school feel…
Scepter: Basic ranged attacks using the forces of the Mists
Shield: Creates barriers of energy and protects the wielder
Daggers: Quick teleporting and speedy attacks, cutting rifts in the fabric of reality
Focus: Channels mist energies in it’s most raw form
Warhorn: Calls forth the voices of the mists
Torch: Acts as a beacon for Mist energy to gather
(also, on a side note. “Pistols, because Rytlock” is kinda inaccurate, the class has nothing to do with Rytlock’s combat style, he adapted to being a Revenant, the Revenant didn’t adapt to being him)
(edited by Tyrannical.9348)
I was previously killed, but an unknown spirit allowed me escape the Underworld to be reborn as a lv 1 Revenant.
That’s not how it work.
It’s not a world of warcraft deathknight.
It’s not a world of warcraft “everything resurrectable (unless for the plot)”.You must learn to use magic and it take ages.
Everyone is born with the ability to wield magic.
There’s no special requirements.Revenant are just modern Ritualist from GW1.
Ritualists channel other-worldly energies that summon allies from the void and employ mystic binding rituals that bend those allies to the Ritualist’s will.
Hello energies of the mistThe energy they channel drives Ritualist skills which enhance the deadliness of an ally’s weapon and wreak havoc on an enemy’s health.
Hello buff skillsRitualists are masters of spirits, able to call upon them in battle for aid.
Hello echoes of mighty heroes and demons in the mists. The Ritualist can also use the remains of the dead to defend the living-not by reanimating corpses as a Necromancer would, but through the ritual use of urns and ashes.
Hello necromancer-like skills.Wow, the class hasn’t been released yet, and has no official lore, and yet there are actually already people telling other people how it works and what they can and cannot RP for their own personal character.
This is more akin to what I would be worried about than what someone might actually do with their character.
That’s the point.
Nobody knows exactly how it works, but people know how it doesn’t work at least, case in point; having tea time with Mallyx in the Mists every Sunday like you’re old buddies. It;s to ensure people have some scope of understanding and what not to do so you don’t overstep the boundaries of plausibility and end up accidentally flicking on the godmode switch.
If you walk into a bar and say “I am the ancestor of Shiro Tagachi” then you’re instantly assuming the position for a good old butt-kicking, just because you misinterpreted channeling Shiro Tagachi as being directly related to the fella.
As much as you may dislike it, sharing your opinion on what could possibly be a canon-breaking or lore-defying concept actually helps people.
Anyway! moving on…
seems most people seem to think that people will be reasonable, save for the mary sue’s who think they have a direct connection to the legend they’re channeling.
I don’t expect people to outright ban people for being Revenants in RP, but what do people suggest as precautions?
I’m thinking Norn. the more humanoid-looking splash art for the profession features a male with tattoos along his arm
Rytlok might be the first Revenant, but might not be the face of the profession.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/1/18/Revenant_02_concept_art.jpg
I’m not sure whether this is the correct forum or not, but as a cautious roleplayer I’m interested to see what the RP community things about the Revenant in terms of it’s feasibility as a character’s profession, what problems might arise, and how to ensure that it’s fun for everyone.
Naturally, when a delicate kind of force is put forth into the player’s hands, people don’t know how to gauge the levels of power they actually command, and Revenant seems especially fragile territory.
It reminds me of ‘Incarnates’ from City of Heroes (ad to a lesser extent Time Manipulation and Gravity Control). What are the limits to what a player can do or achieve with this kind of power? and how will it affect the RP community at large?
Other professions draw their power from various sources and elements to do “cool stuff”, so I’m wondering why you equate being powered by the mists as demigod/incarnate/“above the rest” status?
I didn’t say they are above the rest, I never even stated they are incarnates of the gods or whatever, all I said was this is a new unknown force that’s delicate to handle. We hardly know much about the mists, let alone how this profession can use the powers of the mists to influence reality.
We’ve witnessed they can call forth the powers of ancient legends, disrupt the fabric of reality, and I suspect more questions and fewer answers to appear in the future when they show off the class some more, that’s why I’d like to see where people stand, so the RP community can address the situation and come to an agreed decision on how much this profession can influence the balance of power.
You drew a parallel between Revenants with mist powers and incarnate demigod status.
…blah blah, et cetera et cetera…
wrong wrong wrooooong…
I drew similarities between two incidents where a new feature was brought to a game where people didn’t know the backstory nor did they understand the extent of this content’s impact on others.
I am NOT comparing Revenants to Incarnates, I am comparing GW2 to CoH, in the context of new features vs the RP community. Please read things more carefully before you get up on your high horse making accusations about what train of thought you seem to think I have here, because I did say TWICE that I’m not relating Revenants to Demigods.
I’m comparing similar situations in the RP gaming community, that’s all, don’t think too much on it because it’s that simple. I’m sorry if your argument is invalid now, it looks like you worked hard for it, such a shame it was wasted by you missing the point…
PS: for future reference; being condescending on a help thread, one of the easiest ways to paint a target on yourself.

The only bad response I ever got from dungeon runners while playing an Engie was “Stupid Engie, should be healing the team” when we had a water-attuned elementalist and a guardian with us.
I still have no idea what they meant…
I’d either like to see a normal sized pool of utility skills to choose from, or at least more than 8 or so different legends to channel
