MMR reset next week or the December 10th patch offer the perfect opportunity to remove this map from solo queue once and for all.
Don’t let us down, devs.
Yes, remove this abomination. A good tourny night is a night with no Skyhammer pop.
First of all, I’d suggest coming up with a more interesting thread title. When I first read the abbreviation “CDI” I couldn’t remember what it stands for until I recalled the sticky from ages ago.
I’d suggest composing a brief ingame mail stating something along the lines “We want to make pvp better, your input is needed. Please visit this link.” The majority of players are not reading this forum so it would be beneficial to try to reach out to them in game. You could also make it one of the headlines in the info section of the game launcher.
In addition to discussion threads, I’d like to see short surveys where people can vote on changes they would like to see. Ideally, these could be completed in game.
and even then it makes no sense to judge by composition. i saw so many teams (who looked good on paper) fail after the moment they tried triple cap without needed builds.
True.
But I think it’s less about builds and more about understanding the basics of your role and what you should be doing on each map. For example, a chubby Norn dps guard that crawls over the map in super slow motion should not try to steal Svanir. Same goes for two thieves repeatedly dying in mid instead of trying to back cap completely empty points.
Any player who understands his/her role: +100 (even on an ele)
maybe u should rate builds and not classes!
Yeah. I don’t get why guardian is rated so high on these lists here. The only guardians I get in my solo queues are full dps and they seem to die in every single 1v1 against whatever class. I’ve seen a bunker guardian twice in my last 60 matches or so.
Dps guard: -5
Not every pvp “amateur”(someone that prefers pvp over pve) has time to play TeamQ so people that play soloQ should also be rewarded. If that’s what you ment with tournament wins.
2 of the achievments are only accounted for if you actually WIN the match(annihilation & tactics). The other two are team support and “enemy sabotage”(interruption & help). And the precursor achievment is actually defined by wins…
A tournament win refers to a win in either solo or team queue…
How can you not realize that your achievements would promote horrible play? I can already see how the r5 bunker guardian in solo queue attempts to steal Svanir or the condition necro spends 10 minutes destroying a treb that no one has fired just to get credit for your achievement.
You claim you want legendaries to be rewarded to players who are good. It would make more sense to tie it to leaderboard ranks then instead of rewarding players for 500 rezzes. I may just afk in the corner, watch you getting downed, and then rez you to get credit for one of your more reasonable achievements.
THis thing ur suggesting would just ruin teamplay.
This.
I am all for making pvp legendaries tied to tournaments wins but your suggestions would ruin any kind of teamplay. Just think of the bunch of people in every solo queue that will line up to destroy the treb all match just to get credit for your achievement. No, thanks.
Tie legendaries to tournament wins and maybe people will try their best to play smart.
Can we please not allow people below r20 to queue for tournaments? It takes just a couple of hours to hit that rank but it would improve the quality of matches you get in solo q.
My r9 team mate just died to Svanir…
You guys need to stop trying to force people into tpvp. There are reasons it has a miniscule population. Those reasons don’t magically go away just because you force people to play it. If you want more people to play tpvp, encourage anet to make it suck less kitten, and then people will actually want to play it. The legendaries should be attainable from every form of spvp.
I don’t get this logic. If you want a pve legendary you are forced to run dungeons unless you intend to farm gold for the rest of your life or buy it with your credit card. Now in pvp people who don’t play tournaments should never get a legendary.
The shards need to be tied to tournament win chests. If you can get the shards from rank chests, ANet may as well give all the Skyhammer farmers a legendary of their choice.
That’s like saying manatees are emo, which makes no sense.
its troll. read the finishers xD
Who wouldn’t want a cute Quaggan finisher? I’d soo buy it.
Combined with the rainbowpony bow this would make pvp visuals pretty epic.
Newbies seem to have a really hard time grasping the basics of conquest. I am not sure if that’s because they are new to pvp, new to gaming, or because GW2 really lacks any kind of pvp tutorial.
There is no question that the starting area with the few pvp trainers is beyond bad. The island with all the downed npcs doesn’t teach you anything about what you are supposed to do in a match.
Given that the pvp population is so small, I’d suggest rewarding people with achievement points for basic stuff that would have been covered in a pvp tutorial that this game does not have yet. For example, you rez your first downed player in a hotjoin match – 5 achievent points. You capture your very first node – 5 pts. This way you can encourage people to specifically learn how to fire treb, kill treb, repair treb, grab the orb, kill Svanir or whatever. People will do it because it will be worth achievement points. It may also motivate pve players to try out spvp.
Lastly, please do not allow people to enter a tournament before they have reached rank 20. Until then the tab for competitive play should be grayed out. People rage hard at the r1 rifle warrior in solo queue and that’s not going to motivate him or her to pvp more.
I hate Skyhammer. Please make it optional in solo q. I’d rather see Raid of the Capricorn as a tourny map than this abomination.
Match making is better for me overall. The matches are closer, people rage less, and I get somewhat goods fights more frequently. If they could make tournies only accessible for rank 20+ players, it would be even better. Sorry, but no one wants to have the r1 rifle warrior on their team.
The role of a home bunker whose aware of home point while supporting at mid is one of the most helpful roles.
That’s the only strategy that has worked for me so far. I also ask people nicely in team chat to cap a specific point with varying success.
Play a class that can run the orb, kill treb, solo the npc, bunker a point somewhat decently, and that has good mobility. We all know which classes can do this best.
At the % rating it’s pretty much a given that you’ll be the only one going for secondary objectives while you still have to find a way to hold home.
Given my last matches I honestly don’t know if it makes any difference to call things out in team chat or not. I still do it and since it’s rare that people pay attention I thank them personally if they come and help me. It’s all about positive reinforcement….
Hi guys, Arachnid here (you probably have never heard of me, but trust me, I’m a pro).
Just saw you in solo queue and remembered the tag from this beautiful recruitment post. If you can’t find a spirit ranger, hit me up.
Thanks, Evan! I am very happy to hear that. An overall damage breakdown will help teams figure out what’s working well and what is not.
I know you can’t give us a date, but is there a chance we will see any changes to the scoreboard this year?
I know this has been suggested multiple times, but there has been no official comment and this issue does not even seem to be on ArenaNet’s radar.
In my experience most tpvp matches seem to consist of either your team stomping the other team pretty hard or vice versa. Now the scoreboard at the end of the game offers no indication whatsoever of why you won/lost fights. That makes it very hard to gauge how you are progressing skill wise as a player and as a team.
Suggestions:
- Show us an overall direct damage breakdown per team and per player
- Same as above but for condition damage
- Number of successful stomps/rezzes per player/team
I have no idea if that’s hard to implement or not, but it would help teams and individual players figure out what areas they need to work on. Instead of merely suspecting that player A barely puts out damage, there’s a scoreboard to prove it.
Sadly, our engineer decided to leave GW2 pvp, which is the reason we are recruiting again. Our core team has been stable since the beginning and we have stayed drama free.
We are looking for someone with the mentality of a team player who has some tournament experience (either in solo or team queue). We are willing to try out any class, but thief.
A little bit about us: We are a mid-tier team, (currently off the leaderboards due to tryouts). Each member has over 1k tournaments played. We are passionate about the game and still look forward to logging in for team practice five nights a week.
We will host the next round of tryouts on Monday, 9th September starting at 8 pm PST. If you would like to join us for a few matches, contact Returning.8125, Stinkeybagles.7906 or me.
250 Arcane Converter
250 Arcane Sliver
250 Arcane Orb
250 Arcane Crystal
250 Tournament tokens.
250 Tournament Tokens
R50 R60 R70 R80 should give different precursors.
That would make legendaries way too easy to get. The only thing most people won’t have already are the 250 Arcane Converters which translate to 250k glory.
I still think the mats needed for a legendary should come from team queue wins. We all have a full stack of those stupid tourny tokens sitting in the bank, but I’d rather see a new currency that encourages people to queue up in team queue now.
Perhaps put a special token in the chests that people need to acquire before they can forge the legendary.
That would work. As long as it’s only available through team tourny win chests, I am all for it.
Rainbow pony bows are a thing of beauty. And yes, I want one in pvp.
I am sure the masses will love this idea, but I want legendaries to be tied exclusively to team queue. Win chests in team tournaments should offer a small chance to loot a precursor. Add 500 arcane silvers, 250k glory, add some currency you get for winning team tournaments – voilĂ you earned a legendary!
Currently there is no incentive to form a team, when you can get (worthless) rewards quicker in solo queue. Teams require a lot of time and commitment to maintain. Getting 5 people with different schedules together every week, sticking it out through bad losses, while keeping everyone motivated – it’s work. I guarantee if they make legendaries only available through team tournament wins, many more teams will be formed.
I want The Dreamer so badly…
What I want:
1. Three viable builds for each class
2. Solo queue match making fixed
3. Team ratings (leaderboards listing teams not individual players)
4. Option to report players for afk
5. Harsher and more immediate punishment for leaving or idling at spawn in tournaments
6. Weekly/monthly in game tournaments with titles/rewards
7. Faster leaderboard decay… (minimum of 50 matches played to enter leaderboards)
8. Option to save builds and templates
9. Remove hotjoin and replace it with unranked tournaments
10. Provide incentive for new people to play tpvp (overhaul glory rewards, pvp achievement points, and advertise tournaments in game)

There’s plenty research on the topic.
Then you can also find pieces like these:
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2013/07/statistics-.html
also conferences can be held by absolutely anyone. Hell creationists have their own conferences too.
I will give you one piece of advice before I leave this thread, Mirta. Do not posts links to studies, you have not read. It’s quite sad that you would google this topic in the hope of supporting your statements. If you spent that time actually trying to further your knowledge, you might learn something.
I will even recommend a book to you called “Coercive Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life” by Evan Stark. It’s highly acclaimed and in my opinion an invaluable resource for those who want to understand the evolution of family violence in the United States. And no, I did not just google it; I read it.
To the original poster of this thread, I apologize for going off topic. But there are some statements that are so blatantly disrespectful and ignorant, they cannot be left unchallenged.
Part 2:
The thing is in your opinion woman have no self confidence because they’re over sexualized, therefore get no respect and people get violent against them. However from the researches that we’ve done it’s the exact opposite. Where the sexualization is let to flourish less kitten happens.
http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/everyday_economics/2006/10/how_the_web_prevents_rape.html
Where women are encouraged to hide their body more violence happens against them.
You really should not comment on serious social issues such as violence against women when you very obviously lack even the most basic level of knowledge needed to understand these problems. As someone with extensive experience in the family violence sector, I cannot believe you posted a link to some internet news magazine and then claim that "Where the sexualization is let to flourish less kitten happens. " Shame on you.
Attend a conference on family violence and you will learn that actual scientific research has proven the link between pornography and DV. No, instead, you post a link to an article that does not even reference the “study” it draws all kinds of conclusions from.
Given the level of ignorance you displayed in the post I have quoted, I cannot take any of your comments regarding sexism in the gaming industry seriously.
Be that as it may, the chance of getting an option to report players for being away from keyboard in tournies is much higher than requesting your “negative attitude report button.” I will take a whiney player over an absent one any day.
Uhm, I don’t expect people to be rays of sunshine in my matches. However, I do expect them to show up and play to the best of their ability.
just reported someone for staying whole game at spawn, marked as scamming…
Hey, I now alternate between reporting afk players for botting or scamming.
If you do not have 30 mins available, do not queue for a tournament. It’s bad style to ruin a match for four players just because you can.
Is this really too much to ask? I can deal with the lowbies, the “I’ve never played this map before” players, even the hotjoin heroes. But please do something about the afk leechers. Every second solo queue tournament, I have someone afk at spawn for the entire duration of the match.
Considering that there is no option to report someone for being afk, I assume you want us to report these players for botting.
EDIT: OR you could scratch all of that and just have Tiers that are called “rabbit, Dolyak, etc” You start in that tier based on your glory rank. If you are not as good as your rank, you’ll get dropped down to the teir below, likewise if you are a rabbit but keep stomping rabbits. You then only play the people that are in, or near, your tier.
Thank you
The pvp playerbase is too small to support different queues.
Frankly, I wish they would go back to the seemingly random match making you experienced when you solo queued in tpvp. Sure, there were horrible matches when your pug faced an organized team. But at least the quality of players in my pugs seemed much higher. Since the introduction of solo queue, I have run into 4 players that I actually recognize. Until I can get my win % up, I am stuck with the r6 mesmer in his no-dmg-dies-alot spec and the afk warrior chilling at spawn. I’d trade both of them for an additional ranger pet that would actually contribute to the match.
If you have to go afk, at least stand on a point. You can even dance on it.
What if www queue pop? That is good reason leave.
Don’t queue for tournies if you don’t have the time.
The punishment for leaving matches should be much harsher. In one year of GW2, I have left < 5 matches. I fail to see why it’s okay to leave 5 times in 3 days. Especially since people who genuinely dc and then reconnect, do not accrue dishonor.
Why are leavers being catered to? Every time they leave, they screw four people over.
I am enjoying solo queue. I just wish players would try to maintain a positive attitude during matches or if that’s not possible stay silent. The r2 Dungeon Master with no tourny experience is not suddenly getting better when he/she is being yelled at.
People need to learn to be kind.
Without trying to sabotage your recruitment, if anyone made a team or guild for men only I’d call him sexist and misogynistic. I don’t particularly understand the need to create a male free pvp environment for female gamers, but that may be just me.
That being said, best of luck with the guild. I hope things work out for you.
Our team is complete now!
We would like to thank everyone who contacted us, tried out, and joined us on TS. It has been great fun playing with you guys and we hope you find the team you are looking for!
Props to anyone who participated today! Will there be a way to watch the matches for those of us who couldn’t make the time of the stream? Pretty please!
I am not sure why some feel the need to criticize any of these teams. If you can do better, form a team, and sign up for the next tourny. Calling people newbs is just bad style.
Big congrats, Team Paradigm! Watching Teldo win his 1v2 was epic.
Great fights from both teams.
We are still looking for one more! As long as you can hold your own on whatever class you play best, we do not care about your rank.
What we are looking for is someone who wants to grow with us as a team. If you are tired of solo queue, give us a try.
I had 5 secs lag after updating Adobe Flash Player two days ago. Rolling back to a previous version fixed the problem for me.
I remember reading somewhere else that the update caused issues with GW2, but I can’t find the post.
My necro, obviously. There are some very original armor compositions in this thread. Keep it up!
As I’ve said before, custom arenas and spectator mode are two of our highest priorities, so those will come first. But once those things are finished, we can then look at the KABILLION things we want to add to PvP and then decide which features we release next.
How many solo queuers do you think will still play by then?
I would seriously encourage you guys to solo queue during prime time or on weekends and then reconsider which features are a priority.
I am not sure what feature could be considered more important than solo queue right now. People don’t enjoy being farmed by premades for the next few months.
I’m sorry but I have to completely disagree with you. The experience I had last night very nearly has driven me to uninstall the game. I am a diehard solo que’er. Basically always have been. I admit that during certain times (like mid day or early day) the ques are somewhat decent and your chance of winning pug v pug feels about 50%.
But last night starting at 7pm i played 20 consecutive solo q matches against all premades. Multiple times i was 4v5. In all cases the premades were ranked…and i proceeded to lose 18 of the 20 matches… completely falling off the leaderboards. What was most disturbing was that I continued to face r30+ premades and would be given, at least one to two r11 to r19 players. If there is a matchmaking system…it was in no way demonstrated last night.
It is beyond frustrating to play organized comps that have bunkers for two points and roamers/dps to assist…. while you are grouped with guardians that are full dps dieing faster than a full zerker thief. Again, this is not a 1 or 2 matches thing. TWENTY straight matches…
I find time of day to be highly correlated with the frustration.. unfortunately the time of day during the week that this occurs is the only time after my day job that I can actually game. At this point… I am close to fully checking out.
This.
I probably played against 3 pugs while solo queuing all weekend. Premade after fxxxx premade. Needless to say, I dropped off the leaderboards within one afternoon of soloing. In theory, I should now face either pugs or really low ranked premades. But no, I am still getting rank 30+ or 40+ premades.
Now I’d say my frustration tolerance when it comes to pvp is pretty high, but this beyond horrible matchmaking system is pushing it. Every game I go against a premade at least one person will rage in chat, someone logs off, two people will be r1-10. What’s the point? These matches are so imbalanced, I can’t even say suffering through 15 minutes of being farmed helps me to improve in any way whatsoever.
Fix this or I guarantee you will lose all of your soloers within a month.
If you say it looks like hacking, maybe he was hacking
Lac is an awesome and I mean awesome! orb runner. That’s all there is to it.
There’s nothing fun about solo queue except for the occasional match where I am pleasantly surprised that my team didn’t do a 5-0-0 opening. It always makes me emo and I just wish I knew who to fellate in order to get groups.
Just now I had a mesmer, while I and an enemy were downed, just blurred frenzy the air. I ended up dying because the ranger used the pet rez and the mesmer was afk.
This comment makes me wonder when the last time was you actually solo queued. The problem is not that solo queuers are unable to grasp basic conquest mechanics, but that ArenaNet sees us as fodder for 10-20 ranks higher premades on voicechat.
I solo queue all the time and I run into the same people every night. It’s rare that my pug loses because people play poorly. We lose to premades, superior class compositions, and voicechat.
Solo queues are fun, when you encounter another pug or a somewhat less coordinated premade. They should separate the queues, but it seems they would rather lose all their soloers first.
The info on that board is almost overwhelming. I not only know your account name… but your last name character used… your wins and losses, a quick ratio on wins/losses in the forms of a percentage… and last but not least.. I know what server you play on. Do you realize how important that last part is? Let’s say that I’m in the mists and I wanted to see your toon. Until this leaderboard, I had no clue what mists you were in. Now I do. Which means I can now go and guest on your server and actually SEE you in the mists. This is huge. I’ll be able to learn what you do while idle… or how you practice your dmg on golems. Honestly, it’s ppl like you that never appreciate the monumental things others do.
Beautiful post. I will so look for you in the Mists from now on. If things go well, I might even copy your dye scheme. Thank you ArenaNet!
Three Dungeon Masters
Facing premade on voicechat
Who needs solo queue!
That’s what I took away from it:
-nothing is being done to increase the pvp population until the “core game is solid” whenever that may be.
-leaderboards will not distinguish between solo queuers (3v5) and premades. Basically, they track the win/loss ratio which means solo queuers = bottom feeders. This might kill what’s left of the population.
Thanks for asking good questions, guys. I wish there had been a polite way to interrupt Karl whenever he tried to explain the classes or other basic stuff. First rule of public speaking: know your audience.
