I really would not main the longbow. The auto attack is just so bad, it’s painful. (and not in the ‘to your enemies’ way)
In my opinion the longbow has two selling points, Barrage and Rapid Fire. Barrage is essential in wvw zergfights, when the commander calls for aoe in a specific place or just in general on blobs, and Rapid Fire is a channel which will track through stealth against thieves and such when you are soloing/small groups, but even -still- I’d take shortbow over longbow in that situation.
Honestly I’d want to know the reason you want to use longbow. Prove everyone wrong, be different, or just don’t like the way tiny bows look on your character? If it’s the last one (which it was for me) you can always pick up the Ebonhawke shortbow skin, it’s the size of a longbow, and black and gold, very stylish <3
But really you do not want to be involved with that horrible LB auto attack. We’re all warning you.
I have actually had a lot of success killing stealth thieves after the new patch. (who allow themselves to die, you still cannot catch them if they decide to run)
And this might sound like a ridiculous solution, but the answer is: Spirits.
My build is:
0/30/10/30/0
Skirmishing: IV, VIII, XI
Wilderness Survival: III
Nature Magic: IV, VIII, XI
Weapons:
Sword/Warhorn + Shortbow
Utility:
Troll, Flame Trap, Stone Spirit, Sun Spirit
And you can use RaO or Entangle I really use whichever one I feel like at the time.
For pets, I use 2x Spiders, Cave and Jungle. Your pets aren’t there to deal damage they’re just around to rack up more burns and for the F2 when you want it. Using a ranged pet means you don’t have to deal with them trying to track to the thief as he zips all over the place and who knows, you may just get a lucky immobilize.
Armor is Carrion, I build for condition damage and having decent Vitality.
The way it works is you stay mainly in Sword/Horn while fighting them, this is for the mobility, and you will NEED it. Sword is our most mobile weapon, if you know how to use it, ensure that you know how to sword dodge backwards twice (or in the direction of your choice) by using “About Face” and dropping your target. And of course, you’ll need autotarget off.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to learn how to sword dodge.
What you need to keep in mind while fighting a constant stealth thief is that you are trying to stay alive, not beat them. Remember, they can run at any time. It’s only when they get overconfident (or actually feel like having a real 1v1) that you will win, so don’t get overconfident yourself, that’s how you die.
The bane of constant stealth thieves is anything that can hit them while they can’t be targeted, like conditions, and channeled attacks. You will basically be doing only a few things while fighting—casting your heal EVERY time it is up, (including at the beginning of the encounter before any damage is taken) dropping Flame Trap, and casting Warhorn 4 on the few times you can target the thief—because it’s a channel. The rest of your skills should not be used offensively, but defensively. Do not use Sword 3 to poison. Use it to dodge. Do not use Sword 2 for anything but dodging. Dodge and move ALL the time. If you are standing still you need to be standing in a trap, otherwise you need to be moving. Keep your pet on aggressive and just let it range away, proccing additional burns from your spirit. Do not swap into Shortbow unless the Thief starts running and is low enough on health that you feel -very- confident they will die from the bleeds/burns before they get away. Shortbow does not have enough evade for in general fighting, and swapping to it early can get you killed.
I use a combo of Earth (4) and Grove (2) runes to increase the duration of the protection procs from Stone Spirit and to benefit from the protection chance from the runes themselves, but this might be optional. Never tried it without it, but you probably could.
I have yet to lose to a stealth spamming thief with this build unless I ended up fighting in a bad place—on a narrow bridge for example, a place where you can’t have the mobility you need. Also, it’s actually not that difficult to escape if you need to, once you learn how to sword dodge to run, and since you do have on demand swiftness. If you want to -really- escape from battle, you could run Greatsword instead of Shortbow, chaining Sword dodge together and then swapping into Swoop, but I feel a little helpless without any ranged attacks. But it’s your playstyle. I can guarantee however, that using this setup, you will at least fare better than you think you would, against stealth thieves.
We aren’t free meals for them anymore.
I actually want to see Rangers using staff in a magical sense, give us some kind of “Druid” build, and add in spirit synergy with it.
But what I really want to see is a much, much more beefed up Greatsword—so that Rangers who want to go all out offense can really make a savage, dangerous, feral type character. More animal theme attacks, more giant spirit animal animations, or just better slashes, anything. The Bear on Maul is good but give me more.
If any dev is reading this, while you’re dealing with the F2 issues, take a look at pets failing to AIM their F2s. Better responsiveness is very much appreciated but don’t overlook that we also have a big issue with F2’s firing off in the total wrong direction even with the enemy targeted—Drakes in particular.
After swaps if you press F2 the drake just fires the breath attack wherever it’s facing on swap in, and that’s never at the enemy. This occurs in other situations as well, it’s very clunky and just bad. Play around with it and see for yourself.
Make ALL pet attacks lock onto the enemy if there is one targeted!
I’d like to note, just because I don’t think I saw this mentioned as I skimmed the post—you do not have to be in range of anything with the Greatsword 5 to apply the damage buff to the pet, use it at the air, pet still gets the buff.
Personally I’m a fan of Federer’s.
This. ^
But of course the real answer is TC, if you aren’t hostile to roleplayers. Oh, and there are certain parts of DR you probably shouldn’t wander at night for your map completion if you’re new. Ahem… anywhere you see a closed door that you could open. Unless you’re into that sort of thing. TC has a reputation for a few things other than just being friendly.
horrible change, Frozen Maw was a good source of income. But I think they’d prefer it if you bought gems for that
I’d advise this, honestly. It’s pure frustration witnessing what your Ranger isn’t able to do after playing a class that can so effortlessly perform in combat, like Thief. And for a while I was purely dedicated to bringing out the best in Ranger.
As for not being geared… it’s not difficult to overcome. I buy-ordered my alt’s set of exotics over time, slowly building it up. It stings a little to know I have something like 3 different exotic sets of armor on my Ranger (and ALL those weapons), collecting dust, but I suppose that says something about the class when I had to try so many different things and I’m still using just one set of weapons and armor on my Thief. Tweaking, what for? Prepackaged awesome. Class’s made me lazy.
The people who quit their Rangers love them too, we just can’t handle being so vastly inferior and ignored. I don’t know how much data they collect from player trends, but maybe they’ll see that more and more Rangers are getting the shelf, and do something about it.
But hey, he’ll always be my RP character, so at least dear Phaynel will never be out a job. And if any asura out there are looking for the best ear-massages this side of EVER… well my username’s attached to this post <3
Congrats you just increased the number of people who are going to troll with this item by a LOT.
Seriously, what makes you think that “oh hey that’s an unfair item, I should make sure people stop using it by telling the whole GW2 forum WvW community about it!” is a good strategy? People probably already went out and bought their 250 stack before their eyes got to the end of your post.
Learn to PM a dev, will you?
-facepalm-
No hacks. Check thieves you fight for the infiltration buff, if you see it, know that while it’s up, they can teleport up to 1200 feet away instantly, behind a rock, or a tree, even to different elevations. And they don’t even have to stealth if you have no idea where they initially dropped the teleport point.
I have a life outside score updating, you know! How else am I supposed to make a living? I’ve got a part time job as a paperweight on Mr Thackeray’s desk though! He pays very well!
And you ask me, beg me with those tears, why we cannot be married?
Look at this behavior! Flaunting your nakedness to anyone and everyone, even those who simply wish to see the scoreboard.
I’m only interested in the heart of someone who wishes to be mine. You are ineligible, because you’ve already given yourself to everyone. Including those unwashed SoR barbarians! Lesser men than we, in all aspects!
Look at how freely you associate with them! It pains me to think what more than words you may have traded so… casually with them… ugh! You dishonor those with the true noble blood of the Coast!
And don’t think I take pleasure in confronting you like this. We are friends, truly you do occupy a place in my heart. But disappointment after disappointment, did you think your confession would move me, knowing what you’ve done.. what you’re still doing? Human paperweight.. of all the…
No, no my dear friend. I cannot accept your love.
While a WvW would be nice for people that only do WvW, but think of this if your on a server that has ques do you really want to make it more of an incentive for more people to play WvW just to get the daily done?
I get where you’re coming from, but we already have people coming into WvW to do nonsense like jumping puzzles. I’d rather deal with people coming to WvW to waste space (temporarily) than continually be left out of the loop when it comes to the newest stuff anet decides to implement. Still no ascended gear available with badges, just mentioning that…
They will leave after the daily is done, anyway. Those dust bunnies know nothing about mind blowing, gut wrenching, war.
Are you seriously not seeing how these are easily done in WvW?
If your normal playstyle doesn’t complete the majority of that, then you aren’t playing WvW like the majority of other players. It’s not about killing other players, it’s about holding territory.
No, it’s about listening on voice chat, being where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’ve been ordered to do, and moving quickly from target to target so that we can get something done. The territory that the ‘majority of other players’ is wandering around doing the daily on, is being held by us, your organized friends
I don’t have time to pick flowers and other such BS.
So anet… make some REAL WvW dailies. PvP has a daily. Make a WvW centric daily next, and make it right.
Ever since the patch I’ve been getting massive spikes whenever there are a lot of people fighting in one place. This was not happening pre-patch. Anyone else having this happen? It’s seriously affecting my ability to WvW.
also if there’s some sort of new culling system feedback thread I missed, link me to it
I just dueled another Ranger five times, him using Drake, me my Wolf/Panther, and the Drakes never hit me once.
Still a worthless pet in WvW against a player who doesn’t stand there to take a hit.
Why don’t more Rangers use Guard? Is it because it doesn’t state on the tooltip “Stealths your pet for 10 seconds.” ? It does SO much to help alleviate the problem of pets always missing the target and the cooldown is 24 seconds, I think. Short.
It’s one of the best abilities around for 1v1s, especially if you’re beastmaster spec.
Tell your friend to make his drake invisible before he tries to burst you with it, see if those duel results change. I haven’t tried the new drake, probably won’t (have moved on from this broken mess), but if it’s as strong as people are reporting, how much stronger would it be undetected until it’s too late?
side note.. who else is seriously disappointed in anet for guardian changes? I don’t play that class, but we asked for them to make spirits like spirit weapons, not spirit weapons like spirits. some dev has got the biggest trollface right now
Only a WvW player shouts “ kitten YOU POPPED SWORDS!!! I SAID DON’T HIT MOBS!”
Also I hear people talking about this Zhaitan, what borderland does he spawn on?
/ranger rant ahead ! ! !
You won’t scratch a (non upleveled) DD ele without help. Honestly, I feel your frustration. This class is greatly lacking. The classes you see overpopulating WvW, DD ele, thieves, mesmers—those classes have SO many more tools available to them than we do. We have an entire mechanic that doesn’t do -anything-, called Spirits, we have very bugged Pet AI that while you can eventually learn how to wrangle it, it will never fail to find ways to let you down just when you need it.
You can be good with Ranger, without a doubt. Even awesome. And if you’re awesome, you can beat the stronger classes. But it takes a lot of work, a lot of testing. Playstyles, gear/weapon setups, different pets, finding what suits you, all that effort and you still will be at a disadvantage. While someone can pick up a thief at 2, throw some pebbles in their gear, maybe read a forum topic or two or ask a guildie what to do, and they’re all set to go.
Two things rule in WvW, burst, and AoE. We lack both. We are great at sustained, single target damage. That’s for dueling, it’s not for group battle, at least group battles over a small skirmish. We just don’t have anything to offer that one of the strong classes couldn’t. Aside from siege breaking, no class is better at it than us, except for a mesmer with a group to portal—but we can do it without risking death. I’m not going to get into the details of that here. (because if they nerf it, I’m done with this class)
Right now, it’s just not worth it to play a Ranger if you want to WvW, unless this was your main and you’re attached. This is a PvE class, and not dungeon PvE, but just overworld exploration. That’s where this class truly shines, and actually, we’re pretty much invincible there.
I hold out hope that Anet is reading these forums, and they will eventually address what’s wrong with the class. No burst Anet. No AoE. Either change our weapons, add new weapon options for us, or change our pets to that they can accomplish this—and tune up their AI while you’re at it… a lot.
Some of our burstiest pet attacks are next to impossible to land. River/Salamander drakes, have such hard hitting breaths and they are slow, don’t face the enemy, and basically the target has to STILL be in a small cone in front of the drake, by the time it’s finished inhaling, or attack missed. And Salamander has pathetic range on its breath too. Everyone who wants to “burst” is using the same pets, Birds/Cats. People who want all rounders/utility use Dogs. I see some people with Drakes and I’m sure they’re only doing it because they look cool, because drakes are the worst offenders of AI terribleness. A few people have the Red Moa for the buff. All our ranged pets are weak. We use them for the utility and to have pets that don’t die in zergvzerg. Maybe lay down a poison field. You know, if the target doesn’t move around even a little, causing the devourer to end up in an endless loop of trying to chase them to the range it wants to be before using the field. Racking up damage in the process and dying. Grah. Why. This doesn’t cut it in WvW, this only works in PvE against stationary, non dodging targets. That’s obviously what our pets were designed to fight—and oh how it shows.
I am going to stop this post… I love this class, I spend a ton of time trying builds, trying pets, theorycrafting, sharing finds with the guild, testing, getting horribly destroyed by OP classes, scraping my way to victory only to have my victim vanish forever, or dash off so fast and so far that I can’t ever, ever catch up, even with my Swoop, because I can’t follow up my Swoop with a blink, all while under swiftness. But it’s just.. bad. Of course… I hold out that all my acquired knowledge will allow me to 30v1 entire zergs once Anet gives us the buffs we deserve. That’s what makes playing Ranger worth it. Well, that, and mine is so kitten stylish.
tldr; Ranger has no offense. Don’t bother trying. wtb buffs anet plzthx
Mine does it because… he has low self esteem and insecurities.
The best option would have been some kind of ‘behavior’ selection at character creation, so that I could have my flower and you can have your tree. Because I don’t want the animation changed at all, it’s adorable~
Not enough options with characters if you ask me. Everyone of the same race/gender sounds the same, animates the same.. If what you had in mind for a character fits what Anet gave you, great, but if it doesn’t… well threads like this happen.
Just something for Anet to ponder if they’re reading… how many of us actually get to use our useful downed skills before the stomp? Not talking to you Eles
I’m a Ranger, so it’s not even like mine would even help vs stomps without outside support or specifically chosen pets to buy me time, (and even then probably not) but other classes feel free to input here. I get the sense from reading forums that no one is actually using their useful downed skills in WvW. They seem like they were made with only PvE in mind.
Of course, would making them more accessible just make fighting irritating? Zerg battles impossible and eternal as hordes of people delay the stomps and get up? Don’t know. But I do know that it’s already irritating to know you can’t use a skill because there’s no way you’ll last long enough to do it.
Before we get started—this is NOT about any other use of the ability. You want to complain about Guard and walls, do it elsewhere.
What I wanted to discuss is how Guard gives your pet 10 seconds of stealth. This makes landing heavy hitting abilities like bird F2s so much easier, and allows us Rangers to abuse culling just like the thieves do. No longer can people run in little circles to escape my pets—they can’t see them.
Is anyone else enjoying this feature out in WvW? And if you haven’t done it, try it out! You’ll find that you get a lot more successful in small scale combat. I’ve even managed to land Lightning Breath on people.
Also, if you use a Jaguar along with it, what I call “double stealthing” you can have up to 16 (I think it’s 16) consecutive seconds of stealth. The biggest thing to remember here is that the Jaguar’s stealth is a buff with the F2 icon called “Stalking” and is not stealth, and does not stack with stealth. Meaning you have to watch for when the Jag becomes visible after Guard ends and then hit the F2. Using them both will get you only 10 seconds of stealth.
This ability is great for Beastmastery builds with hard hitting pets. I just sit in my spring and bunker while people die to invisible mauling animals.
Where are you finding these thieves who will let you pop QZ and SoS and beat them to death with sword auto in melee? Seriously is this in wvw? What servers. t2 doesn’t have any thieves like that. I wish. Can I borrow your thieves?
No thief I fight will let me get them past 50% health without disappearing, and when a thief vanishes like that, you don’t stick around because they’re just waiting to recover and strike again, and I have cooldowns going, I can’t just play the reset game like that. So I swoop right out of there and don’t look back.
In my experience, when a thief decides a 1v1 fight is over.. it’s over, and you go home empty handed. It’s almost not worth fighting them—I just play it as a minigame, “Can I easily handle this guy’s burst?”, because it’s not like I’d ever get a stomp without a group with me. Only the most charitable thieves die in 1v1.
2/3 of Siamoth’s items grant you stealth. Carry one with you, and a greatsword. Something happens you don’t like, stealth up and Swoop away. Your entire swoop will be invisible, and if you have Superior Energy sigils as well you can tack at max, 3 dodge rolls at the end, if you were already in combat. Plus the new speed signet.
It takes some getting used to, but I’ve gotten fairly comfortable with it, and for once I actually like the class has a competent escape mechanism. Of course this is no -real- solution… but it does work, especially against solos. Most people just stop chasing at the “where’d he go?” stage.
Also, I’ve started using Black Bear as my secondary pet. Weakness is SO good against anyone who wants to burst you, really takes the sting out of those thieves. (as does Nature’s Protection, I don’t see how anyone runs without it in this ‘boom you’re dead’ environment) And the roar is 600 range and is one of those few pet attacks that responds well to the “I’ll force you to use this move now by HOLDING F2” approach.
this thread was cooler when Fort Aspenwood did it.
Grasping Vines is really fun if you play Sylvari.
But I feel like we suffer from 3 slot syndrome quite a bit (even with all the subpar utilities) and since traited SoS and the new SotH are must haves, if you ask me.. you’ll often find yourself being like… do I want to immob on demand or do I want quickness, or what about Sick’ Em? Or do I want to throw my pet up onto walls to harass defenders..? Oh no here comes a DD ele I’d better get an extra 12 seconds of stability.. OR… and so on.
First of all, going into a fight without a ranged weapon is not a good idea. If you’re low on health and wait for your healing skill to recharge you just stand there awkwardly and can’t contribute anything to the fight.
Just want to state that the above is not always true—you still have your pet, possibly two of them, which can still contribute to the fight. I do agree that GS+S is a build geared toward using pets, and if you have specced into Beastmastery, your pets won’t be so easily killed in WvW, meaning even if you have to sit on the sidelines for a while, you can still command your pet to attack targets and CC. And GS 5 will give your pet 150% damage on its next attack, regardless of whether or not you hit anything.
I’m totally biased toward melee ranger though, so consider that while you make your decision… I still carry a bow on me, and you should too, even if you do choose to go all melee. There will be times you need it.
Let down again. Honestly we need to stop believing these devs. Next time one of them comes in here with shiny Ranger buffs they should be met with suspicion at best. I don’t want anyone working on this crap at Anet thinking they’re doing a good job, getting any satisfaction out of the temporary positive feedback we shower them with every time they trick us with worthless “improvements”.
Our core class problems are STILL here.
I’ve started to branch out all over the place with my pets, testing different things.
I still say you can’t go wrong with 2x birds, but right now I’m running Fern Hound/Siamoth. All I do is WvW so this is all from that perspective.
Fern Hound’s (somewhat) on demand regeneration is pretty nice, I can pop it at the start of encounters to keep me going, and dogs have 2k+ Power when specced full Beastmastery. They hurt, and while they don’t have the crit rate of birds by any means, with all that extra power, when they DO crit, especially with the 30% pet crit trait, they crit hard. Not to mention the knockdown is very nice. The only problem with dogs is that their howls can become very unresponsive at all the wrong times. I can’t count how many times I have had to play the constant calling back, trying to clear target so it won’t run off, please just use the Regen howl please, game. And I found it was even worse with Wolf. I literally stopped running it because unlike Regen, which I usually pop pre-encounter to stabilize me during the battle, the Fear howl is an on-demand, I need this RIGHT NOW, skill, and well.. it doesn’t have an on-demand activation. I have literally successfully feared enemies away from me when I needed it… Once. And only once. It was becoming too much of a joke to justify a pet slot. Anyone out there using wolf successfully, I salute you.
I need to make a video of all the shenanigans going on with Pet AI, especially dog howls. It seems like if you press F2 while the pet is doing ANYTHING besides standing still, it will self-cancel in favor of taking a few steps forward or some other idiotic behavior. And this goes for just about everything.
But moving on, Siamoth. I’ve bashed on pig pets before, because they have the same AI problems as all the other pets, but giving it a bit more patience, I’ve found that this pet has saved my life more times than any successful Fear howl ever could. Again, that’s because this pet has an F2 that can be pre-popped, used out of combat when the pressure is off, because pet AI is a general failure in the heat of battle.
But yes, carrying precious supply, but the entrance to the keep is being camped by 30 invaders with sharp sticks? Siamoth has your back. Stealth up and Greatsword swoop through them. No one expects a Ranger to stealth, they probably will think you disconnected for all they know. Fine with me, as long as I make it. The Plasma is also AMAZING. I think we can all agree on that.
I’ve used Siamoth a bit in small scale combat too, I find the larger the battle, the harder it is to get the ability used. The best thing about it, is that truly every single one of the items it drops is useful. When I was playing around with Warthog, if it dropped a Poison Sac I would groan. I -never- needed it. But two stealth items and one that grants all boons? All 3 of those are perfect escape tools. If you are the kind of person who finds yourself in bad situations (so if you solo a lot), Siamoth is going to take care of you, granted the AI is on your side.
I admit, I did make money doing this, 250 pebbles made 3 silver doubloons, but the sheer amount of hand sore and annoyance this method involved makes it not worth it. Doubling your input (MAYBE) at the cost of wrecking your hand… I’d rather not.
And I’m sure it was luck, that granted me those 3 doubloons. If I’d gotten nothing, I would have been sore and upset. I quit while I was ahead, and I wouldn’t recommend this method to anyone.
Anet needs to change the mystic forge, so that if I put 4 equal stacks of something in, I get back the amount of output item I would have if I had put them in 4 at a time. Until then, these mass conversion money making schemes are best left to people with cybernetic hands, or automation programs.
No buy order fees of any type. You won’t be punishing your intended marks, the people with overwhelming amounts of money don’t care about fees.
You’ll just be irritating people like me. >_<
I would LOVE to use the Ethereal field+Whirling Defense combo. But let’s be realistic, this relies on a pet that spawns -random- items, one of which may be the right one, that you have to pick up off the ground.
So your pet has to be near you, it has to spawn the item, and not do that bug out thing where even though you have nothing targeted, there are enemies nearby and it insists on running toward them to do the F2 even though it doesn’t require a target, making you call it back and spam until it finally STOPS and does it, the item has to be the right one, you have to pick it up, use it, and then FINALLY, whirl in the combo field.
It’s just impractical. I’m not saying it’s impossible to pull off, it’s not. But compared to the other actions you could be taking in that amount of time you’re spending micromanaging your pet, you could make a larger impact doing something else, even though the combo field is SO COOL.
The whole mechanic of pig pets is just poorly thought out and I wish they would fix them. Get rid of Forage—you can’t use it in a split second moment, you don’t have the time, and the pets bug out too often. Make Warthog emanate some kind of stinky Ethereal Field on F2. Make the regular pig heal, and so on, pick the useful items from the Forage F2s and just give them to the pigs themselves. They’re just not viable otherwise.
Definitely a tie between SoS (traited) and Whirling Defense.
I just started playing with off hand axe this week, and it’s actually pretty amazing—but not for the obvious reason. Sure, you can reflect ranged attacks, but I actually find where the ability shines is in melee. I run a Beastmaster/Marksmanship/10 Skirmishing for 30% pet crit, bird burst build, and the damage output of my pets simply skyrockets when you put a free 12% damage increase on an overzealous warrior who thought it would be cool to attack away during my 6 seconds of invuln+Whirling Defense.
Let my Raven (not my hawk or eagle for this version of the spec) swing away while I whirl, when it’s finished and they have the full 12 stacks, F2. Ouch.
Cake is better than pie, seriously.
But Cheesecake does beat them both out, and comes in first. Just like Tarnished Coast. But we will see which server is the cake, and which is the pie.
There’s only one (Golem) God ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t come from Fort Aspenwood.
Have any other Rangers experienced this? I have had this happen 3 times over the past few days. Against players that I assume will try to CC me to interrupt my stomp, I have tried to pop Signet of the Wild for the stability boon so I can stomp in peace.
Every time I have done this, the “Finish him!” goes away, pressing F over the player does nothing, and until the activated duration is over, the stomp action is completely unavailable.
Anyone else have this happen?
Have you tried any of the black substitute colors? I can’t say for sure how they will affect your armor because so many pieces take colors so many ways, so instead I’ll just give you a list of the ones I know and you can try them yourself:
Charcoal
Pitch
Iron
Night Shade
Oil Slick (this isn’t exactly a black but sometimes I use it as one on characters, depends very much on armor type)
Also Heirloom Dye can become VERY black on certain items, an interesting black and red combination. You’d have to see it yourself to understand what I mean, and you might not see it at all if the pieces you have don’t dye the same way mine do.
I actually prefer my enemies to be anonymous. I don’t want to spend time thinking “oh hey, it’s that guild tag, those guys are rather reasonable on forums, maybe I shouldn’t attack that upscaled guy he’s just traveling after all, maybe he’s here for map completion…”
Better if you are one nameless entity—invader scum to be scrubbed off the property of Tarnished Coast, granted to us by the Most Holy Golem God.
I enjoy a playstyle where I am the secondary damage source and my pet is the primary, a “Beastmaster” Ranger if you will. Your suggestions = do not want.
What’s the point of posting your name and guild? My name is Tarnished Coast Invader/Defender, that guy you’re yelling at is Yak’s Bend Invader/Defender.
What more do you need, real names are for if you want to send us annoying tells or love letters or something. (and can’t you already do that with our usernames which we use to post… Here?)
Follow some dolyaks, watch your supply camps. Guaranteed to result in small scale pvp, and is helpful to your realm. And before you cry boring, think about how much time a roaming group spends just looking around for something to kill…
All those golems and not a single one is hylek dyed.
Step up that fashion game. Making me cry here.
Pets not being able to attack moving targets is the biggest problem. People in WvW are starting to learn that “bird flying toward them” equals ouch, so now they just move around a bit and I can no longer bird bomb them. Between people strafing to completely avoid arrows, and this, against smart opponents there will be times where I can’t hit anything outside of melee. When a player can use skill to avoid being hit, but you can’t apply an equal use of skill to hit them, something is broken. I can’t do anything about my pets or how my bow fires. This needs fixing. (not the harpoon gun, seriously why did you go there first??)
Second off, something as powerful as stealth should totally have a hard counter. If our pets could continue tracking and attacking a stealthed enemy—one, we’d have a valuable and sought after niche as thief detectors, and two, it would bring some much needed balance to the game. Everyone is always whining about stealth, especially permastealth and supply camp trolling. Wouldn’t it make you guys smile to see people on the forums replying to that with:
“Bring a Ranger.”
This 2v1 stuff is -always- nonsense, but I’d much rather ally with Yaks than FA. FA likes to come to the forums and complain all the time, Yaks are actually Dolyaks who transform into human avatars to wage war, but on their native server they maintain their big fluffy yak forms. How could you not love them. <3
How do you get bored, you’re in WvW to kill players in the open world, and conquer territory for the glory of your homeland. If that isn’t all the motivation and entertainment you require, you’re not cut out to be a Mist Warrior.
Speed buffs would be appreciated but what we really need are better escape tools. One immob and it doesn’t matter how fast we move.
When was the last time you reliably and quickly removed an immobilize?
I’d like to apologize for those among us who were hard of hearing last night at our TCBL ram picnic. Our Commander ordered us to NOT attack investigating invaders while we relaxed in front of the keep with our shame rams. Some people have the bloodlust, they can’t follow orders.
I was the wolf, by the way. Arooooooooooooo~
Don’t make the badge harder to get, there are some good leaders out there and we should want to encourage them, not make them slaves to the badge RNG gods. Gold is the perfect currency because in a way it does let us vote for our commanders, if you like someone’s leadership you mail them a donation. I’ve done it many times.
What does need to be implemented is some extra little menu that displays all the commanders on a map and lets you choose which ones you see. So while there may be 50 blue doritos on the map, you don’t have to ask some ego inflated fool to turn off his icon, you can do it yourself. Anyone who is a WvW regular is going to know who is worth following. This also will deter non-useful commanders from even bothering with “leading”, a few too many mistakes and you’ll have earned a spot on everyone’s commander Ignore List. New “commanders” might actually try leading without using their tag a while.. Build up some community trust before they start using their icon.
I know this was already posted but…
Land of the Dead all over again, yay.
Make a badge/karma equivalent or you failed. Preferably karma, badges have a horrible drop rate. (and I just spent all of mine on the exotic chest, lol)
WvWers want nothing to do with your dungeons. Keep your PvE gear grind out of our sacred battlefield!
Stealth stomping prevents a downed Ranger from using their pet on the attacking thief.
Many times I have rallied in close battles or at least also downed my opponent by commanding my (very) hard hitting bird pets while downed. And even though the thief is still there, telling a pet to basic attack requires a selectable target. (they can’t swing at the air like so many thieves tell us to do)
F2 doesn’t require a target, but we can’t exactly control which direction our pets are facing at any time, downed or not.
Basically, stealth stomps remove the Ranger class’s only method of fighting back while downed. Our regular downed skills are trash—and probably are that way specifically because we can still use our pets.
I am not a completionist.
I don’t plan on getting world 100%, or collecting all manner of ridiculous Gifts. I don’t craft, I don’t dungeon. I WvW, and that’s all I want to do.
And apparently that means I can’t ever have a sparkle, glow, or even a few flames on my weapons.
Release some effect weapons for the rest of us! That you can get with karma, or badges, or gold, even!
But what would be even better, is if you added some particle effect “kits” to the game. Items that let you add an effect to a weapon you already have. Like the skin of your sword but want it to glow? Buy this kit and apply.
Put them in the Gem Shop, I’d pay real money for that in a heartbeat!
Legendaries will still be legendary, they have much more dramatic effects and change your footsteps. But for people like me, who just aren’t doing all that—give us some lesser effects!
I suggest Tarnished Coast.. Unless you like spending your time with unwashed barbarians.
I WILL Alt+F4 OR character select from WvW BECAUSE I don’t like being returned to Lions Arch if I was in a certain area in PvE.
Just a note, you can accomplish the same thing by going to the Mists with the PvP menu, then leaving the Mists the same way. Will drop you back where you were in the world. I use this all the time, and restarting your game is slower than doing it this way.
