Weapon-Armor Chest, and other stuff post HoT

I’ve gotten an ascended ring (including infused) most days that I do all of the dailies (a majority of the days since the xpac dropped), although the last two days I have gotten an ascended weapon and armor box instead. The boxes don’t seem that much rarer than before, to me at least.

I’ve gotten a 5 or 6 ascended rings, two of which were infused, but no one has been reporting ascended weapons and armor. Do you have a screenshot? Because if that is the case I’d like to post it all over the whining forum posts and tell them to deal with it

simply that they drop isnt the point, its that the drop rate was hit so so hard and that drop rate was one of the big reasons that a lot of people ran high level fractals before. One of the big reasons people ran dungeons was gold which they nerfed as well. It appears that they are also trying to disincentivize fractals by nerfing one of the big draws to that content?

Well…yeah. They are adding raids which have been stated to have a 15% chance drop rate for an ascended box per boss (so ~2 group members will get ascended loot per boss per week). Even at it’s height, fractals were nowhere near that rate. They want people to do the hardest content for the best loot, i.e. raids (though I do think having the highest level fractals have a better drop chance would be in keeping with that but Anet made its decision).

Their entire strategy has been to guide people to the new content rather than the old content. I’ve seen a lot of people on the forums complaining that they are trying to force people away from old content, but what’s the point of new content if no one plays it?

To be fair, when you say “dead” you make it sound like no one plays them, but fractals are more active now than they’ve ever been

True, but that’s only temporary. I can only speak for my team, but we used to do a 50 each day we could. It was fun and rewarding. Now? We started by doing all 3 daily + 2 recommend each day. Then we finish all 1-20 for the achievment and we stop doing it because the reward was so small even if they were so fast. But that’s ok, we didn’t do level 1-29 before too. It’s normal.

Then my friend stop doing 51+. It was just not worth it for him. Some night we got to harder fractal like 74 (that fear, immobilize, cc + the freaking double spawn bug again was a pain). So we decided to do the 74 and 56/60 for the daily. But now, if we don’t have time to do two new fractal, kitten the 51+ daily. Less reward than 21-50 and a bit longer.

What will happen when we reach level 100? We’ll stop doing 51-100 completely. Other group will probably simply do 56/58/60 for a chance at golden skin or relics.

What will happen when we all have our legendary back item? No more recommended? Maybe we want more fractal skin? But the achivement and bugged and by that time we will have enough chest to get the skin we want. Why push for the whole collection if there is no collection. In a couple of months, only Fractal Skin and Golden skin will attack people.

There is stuff to do in fractal right now. Achievement, collection, etc. But there is no value in the long run, or at least less value than it used to have.

I definitely agree that alot of the new stuff other than the daily achievements feel temporary, but I’m holding out hope that they were telling the truth when they said they wanted to revisit fractals later on. A lot of this looks like adding some play value to new people to get them interested in doing Fractals at all while they focus on Raids since they pretty much have all hands on deck for designing and creating those. I’m hoping that, after they release the last wing of the first raid, that they will come back to it.

They stated that they were removing some of the instabilities, for example, so they could reevaluate them and work on some new ones. I don’t know if they actually will, but I hope they do. This one is more of a pipe dream because I know that they are focusing almost exclusively on raids, but I’d love some new fractals as well.

Ascended Armor has always been expensive (rightfully so since its the highest stats in the game), but right now it is 2 to 3 times more expensive than it was if you buy the mats because everyone is trying to gear up for raids and guild halls are vortexes for gold and mats

I swear people are just posting their favourite class at this point.

On the other hand, it means anet did a fair job of balancing classes in terms of aggro control, considering every single class has been mentioned.

ofc thats because every class can fill multiple roles some are just better at it than others depending on how much they loose doing it

I think that’s the beauty though, anyone’s favorite class can become whatever they want it to be. Sure, a Revenant with shield and using Glint as their legendary has a bunch of blocks and area heals, but an elementalist can stack some serious damage reduction. It’s about how you play not what you play, and that’s one of the things I love most about GW2

Then you missed the huge announcement and bunches of forum posts of people complaining about it. It is so easy to make money in HoT, do Verdant Brink for an hour and you make 5-10 gold easily.

Just because it requires slightly more effort than a mindless dungeon run doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Since when open world require more effort and is less mindless than dungeon runs ?

Depends on if you want to do it right or not. If you want to achieve max security level in Verdant Brink to get a guaranteed exotic, for example, you need to be smart and coordinated with everyone else in the map.

If you go in and just 1zerg it then you simply aren’t going to get the rewards you want, same as the rest of the game.

To be honest, even if drop rates are slightly under what individuals think they should be, we need to be supportive of Anets first attempt at a raid. The most important reason being that they are less likely to make more if the only thing people do is complain and I for one want more. Even if their first attempt is not as good as people think it could be, I’m glad they are trying.

I’m supportive of the raids. I’m glad they are implementing them and am trying to organise a guild group. But they need feedback on them. Not that I think they’ll change the rewards unless the number of people doing raids is very low. If its only 3 bosses it makes the chance of ascended even worse. My feedback to arenanet is that the chance should be increased to have parity with raid rewards in other games. Yes I know we get a full set of ascended after completing the first 3 raid wings but how long will that take?

Woah we get a full set of ascended after clearing the first 3 wings? I didn’t see that but I hope it’s true…do you have a link? I did not mean to imply that you weren’t supportive, just stating my thoughts about the greater community (since the forums tend to focus exclusively on the negative). In terms of feedback, I think it best to wait until we’ve experienced them to provide it. In any case, the ascended pieces still have the highest drop chance in the game from raid bosses and, since they are also craftable (unlike many other games) I don’t have a huge problem with it.

Carrot here isn’t gold. Its unique skins and legendary armor precursors. And probably ascended drops. Also, since when is ‘fun playing’ has to equal monetary reward?

The amount of gold entering the system from dungeons was silly. The whole point of the change was to rebalance the economy with lower gold influx. If raids were showering us with gold, it would have simply shifted the source of gold influx, not reduced it.

The key question is: how fun the encounters will be, how good are non monetary rewards and how long will the raids take to complete. If the raids will take 10+ hours for 10g and 5% chance at ascended with 0.1% chance at unique skins, they’ll die quicker than high level fractals.

I believe that the chance for ascended was 15% per chest or some such number, significantly higher than anywhere else in the game. That means that ~2 people will get an ascended per boss per run (likely higher with better magic find) which puts it at a pretty generic loot chance with other MMOs. A solid example is WoW, with a 10 man raid boss dropping 2 epics (ascended equivalent).

SWTOR you have a 25% chance of getting a top tier item per boss. With 5 bosses per raid it makes it almost certain you will get at least 1 piece of top tier loot per full run. This is a significantly better chance than GW2 raids if it is 15% per boss.

From your example wow is 20% per boss with how many bosses per raid? 15% to me is still too low. How many bosses are there in GW2 raids? I’ve heard mention of 4. 1 piece of ascended per full raid run should be the minimum. Especially considering the ascended chance would undoubtedly include trinkets which almost no-none doing raids would need, so the chance of a useful ascended goes down even further.

This one is down to opinion, but I think that SWTOR is not a good MMO to say GW2 should be like. In terms of # of bosses, each wing will have 3 and I believe that there were either 3 or 4 wings to each raid (I’m not sure what specifically was announced but I know that there will be at minimum 9 bosses in the first raid). Additionally, they announced that they wanted to release new raids fairly regularly so we know that Anet wants to do multiple raids as well. Additionally, if you do enough of the bosses, even if you fail, you’ll build up enough of the currency to get a guaranteed loot. 100% is pretty decent.

To be honest, even if drop rates are slightly under what individuals think they should be, we need to be supportive of Anets first attempt at a raid. The most important reason being that they are less likely to make more if the only thing people do is complain and I for one want more. If you want to do that just drop the toughness and go Power/Ferocity/boon duration with a few healing power pieces. Revenants are pretty tough (I run zerker/assassins gear and use Shiro/Glint for my legends) and are very mobile so dying is not one of the big worries. For best support, boon duration is your best bet because your AoE heals are less valuable than might stacking and permanent fury.

If you want to lean more support than damage, drop the ferocity and increase the healing power, but I cannot stress enough that boon duration is the best thing you can provide a group when using Glint as your legend

If you want to use conditions, go Mallyx entirely. a half power/half condition build is jack of no trades and master of none.

If you like Shiro, try pairing it with Jalis. Shiro will give you all the damage you need and then you can switch to Jalis when you need a huge boost of survivability.

If you have the Herald elite spec unlocked, Glint is also a great pairing with Shiro.

For reference, I play Shiro/Glint with full zerker and I do 4k autoattack crits without any might and have great survivability due to protection and heals pretty much on demand from Glint. You do have to stay smart and mobile, but you can jump in and out of mob groups and lay waste to them with few problems if you pay attention

No they cannot. Rings can be attuned and infused (make sure you don’t leave any upgrades in them as the infusion and attunement process deletes any existing infusions), and an ascended backpiece can be infused but not attuned.

Ascended amulets and accessories can only have Versatile Infusions in them, so you should put the +7 infusions in them

My advice is to pretend the top left corner of the map doesn’t exist. Completely forget about it. Do whatever you can to get to ley-line confluence waypoint. This is your new starting point. Once you have this waypoint your life becomes much easier.

Start from said waypoint. Travel due EAST to get to SCAR lane waypoint. This hosts the 10 event SCAR chain. There are 3 events that cycle over and over after the main chain is done.

Start from home waypoint and travel due WEST to get to ORGE camp waypoint. This is another event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events after main chain ends.

Start from home waypoint and travel due NORTH to get to Rata Novus waypoint. This is the 3rd event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events.

Once you have ley-line confluence waypoint you can quickly and easily access these 30 events + 6 cycling events. These lanes also contain the majority of the crystallized chak boxes and is the starting point for the meta event.

The final event chain is located up in the top right corner of the map. It is harder to get to, but does give you access to multiple wallows to quickly move around the map. It also contains a 10 event chain with 2 cycling events.

Hope that helps!

Small addition to an otherwise excellent and extremely helpful comment: forget about map completion until you have maximum Nuhoch mastery.

You don’t need max. You can get by just fine without it.

There are some areas that are locked behind the Chak Acid mastery, unless you’ve found ways around those (I’d be happy to hear them because that’s all that’s in the way of map completion for me)

Theory on why Mastries are 'Grindy"

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

The problem with merging Tyrian and HoT mastery points and xp is that everyone would just go spend the next week in CoF, farming xp.
….
I grind most of my mastery xp in Verdant Brink. …….I’m currently grinding away at gliding level 4 (which is 5 mastery points) and it’s going pretty quick.

If you’re happy to grind for xp, why not let people grind wherever they want? I tried CoF and it is the most mind-numbing experience ever. If somebody wants to do it that way, they’re already paying a hefty price in tedium and that should be their choice.

It is their choice, and people can grind wherever they want. The devs straight up said that the masteries were intended to take more than a few days worth of playtime, and said that they were not going to change the CoF farm because the method by which people get experience and the speed at which they get it are up to them as long as they aren’t doing something outside the game’s code of conduct. Furthermore, it destroys any feeling of actual progression and maps would be completely empty rather than the hit-or-miss megaservers if everyone was in CoF farming their gliding and Nuhock masteries.

I would like to know what level fractals when you start seeing mobs drop shards of this stuff… Also, I would like to know how can you get ascended weapon/armor chest now? Thanks.

For the vials/globs/shards, in keeping with the changes to when agony damage starts, the new drop zones are:

Vials: 1-30
Globs: 31-49
Shards: 50+

7.5 and climbing (now that I’ve done a fair amount of the xp grinding required). I am loving the complexity and detail of the maps, I love the new mobs and mob mechanics (especially the defiance bar, so much better than defiance stacks and seeing a control wasted on a slow). I like the new fractal setup a lot though I would still like to see the ascended drop chance be added back in. I’m very excited for raids and Squad UI and I’m very happy to have better repeatable endgame content.

Also, the elite specializations add so much variety and are a ton of fun, and I really like how zerker is no longer the optimal meta for all circumstances.

Ascended chest drops were never affected by Magic Find. Magic Find only affects loot dropped directly by bosses, no bags, chests or anything else. Basically, it’s mostly useless.

Okay, then my point still stands. I think a 15% chance is a great baseline since it gives a good reward to a small portion of the group but you have multiple chances for it and its a reward befitting hard content with the highest chance of any content in the game besides the 100% chance via crafting. Add that to the eventual certainty of getting something good with the currency reward they are adding and I think this is a great and well-thought out move by Anet.

Rewards Compensation

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

100% agree with giving dungeon dailies (I put this first because I like this idea the most). Adding Fractal dailies has massively improved the size of the fractal community between levels 1-65 or so (highest level fractals are still done by about the same size community but since AR is much easier to come by that number should start growing soon).

I think Anet made the right move by reducing liquid rewards, but in keeping with their “earn it rather than buy it” mentality for gear in HoT increasing the token and hard rewards is a great next step.

The skins one I also agree with though to a lesser extent, largely because I think Anet should focus on new Raid and skins rather than reskinning old content. I think a great move that Anet could do would be to add a buyable Champ loot box for dungeon tokens. This box would have a chance to give ascended gear in a stat combination that makes sense for the dungeon (condition gear for Arah, zerker gear for CoF, PVT for AC, etc.) and the chance would be based on how many tokens it took to buy the box (if it cost 50 tokens as opposed to 500, for example). Making this kind of loot available but account bound would prevent the economic inflation they don’t want but still reward dungeoneers and incentivize the greater community to do them rather than the goldrunners.

What are your thoughts?

Changing Fractal Encryptions

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

I definitely agree with adding tiered encryption boxes, but they added tiered rewards in the dailies (each grouping of fractals gives a different tier of chest). Unfortunately those cannot include gear, but I think getting gear from fractals that isn’t an ascended ring is a pipe dream.

That said, it’s way easier to make money from crafting infusions now and since more people are doing fractals there’s a lot of opportunity there. Anet has shifted loot from fractals to raids and gold from dungeons to fractals (albeit you have to work a little harder for it but I’m not opposed to that).

I honestly think the only real change I would make is to add a tiny chance of an ascended box to an encryption box, no need to even be as high as it was previously. That way you still get similar rewards but since you open way more fractal encryption boxes and they are farmable it would prevent undue abuse of the system.

like I said in the post though, the “tiered rewards” in the daily boxes are just more of the spammed rewards, not actually better rewards, and there is currently not much difference above level 51. In fact, though its a relatively small sample size so far, [KING]’s data and the experience of my own guild (10-15 people running multiple dailies every day) show ascended chests are basically non-existent like you said, but other than that the difference between a 51+ and a 21-50 chest is 1 key and 5 +1s and, no noticeable difference in drop chance (based on kings data its actually a decrease currently).

I wasnt sure if I worded the chests from encryptions well enough. What I meant was, say for instance, there was supposed to be 1% chance from a mid 70s for an ascended weapon and a mid 70 mid length fractal gave 5 encryption boxes. This would mean that the chance of getting 1 weapon chest from opening 5 boxes would be 1%, not 1% each.

I saw a post about a week back where a guy said he opened 1000 encryption boxes and listed what he received. I’ll try and find it so I can link it, but ascended items are nowhere on the list (though it was net gold positive). That said, he did not list the value or items he received from doing enough fractals to get those 1000, so I think that you would make much more gold if you actually did enough fractals for it.

That said, I don’t think fractals should be primarily for gold, I think they should be for challenging content and some gear upgrades. Ascended rings drop but at the moment that’s it, and I think you and I are on the same page about adding a tiny chance for ascended armor to the encryption boxes but just stated it differently.

In terms of when that should be the case, I think is should be absolutely minuscule (less than .5%) for fractal encryptions obtained under fractal level 50, and a larger but still tiny chance for boxes acquired over level 50 so that people who cannot complete fractals at higher levels are not penalized but those who do are rewarded.

However, for best results I think that the daily chests should carry ascended loot chances rather than encryption boxes because encryptions are farmable and therefore abusable. If the daily chests were updated to include a chance at ascended gear, I think the chances should start at 3% and work their way up to 10% or so from the chest given from completing fractals 75-100. I have no numbers to support the ones I provided, only my feelings, but I think starting there would be a good way to reward the fractal content without flooding the GW2 economy with easily procured ascended items. I want ascended items to be accessible to everyone but have players who do harder challenges to be rewarded better.

What are your thoughts?

Changing Fractal Encryptions

Yes there are problems, but don’t let that make you ignore all the great things that came out of HoT and will come out (i.e. raids). I’m loving it so far and have had an almost entirely bug-free experience. I also really appreciate that Anet has been working to fix things and it always makes me sad that the forums really don’t give them enough credit and attack anyone who tries.

You keep loving the game. The Devs are working hard to make it a positive experience for people and I’m glad that more people are enjoying it.

I’ve found it’s actually way easier to make money from fractals now. It’s so easy to make and sell high level agony infusions it’s ridiculous. Additionally, do a Verdant Brink or Auric Basin farm. I’ve made several hundred gold from mats alone even without playing more than 2 hours a day.

Dragon Stand is a good one as well. Get your participation up to 200% and you’ll be rolling in the dough.

where you get those 10g from?
blog post says 2g weekly…

It’s 2g per boss per week, and if it’s the most recent content it’s 4g per boss. I don’t know where 10 came from, but in the first raid wing it would be 12g per week.

From the video they released, we know you will need updraft at the minimum. My guess will be that Itzel poison resistance will be good to have as well since you’ll be fighting mordrem (and some of the poison vines may make an appearance) but Exalted and Nuhoch masteries do not appear to be very important for this one.

That said, I would put money down that when they release a raid in Auric Basin, Exalted Masteries will be very important, and the same will be true for Nuhoch masteries if a raid is added to Tangled Depths. I think the theme will be tied mostly to location, but we will see There’s nothing wrong with having a good spread.

Quick and Dirty Guide to Breakbars

So, what you are saying is, while the mob is immune to CC effects, we should use CC skills on them?

Sounds like using CC at any time is a good idea. =)

Well, you can. But for optimal results you should try to time it so that you can drop the bar down and stun the mob when it will be useful.

For example, there is a Hero Point in Verdant Brink that has a giant vampire bat that will drain health and heal close to full when it gets down to 25%. If you knock the bar down prior to that, you won’t be able to interrupt it when you actually need to.

Additionally, higher level mobs require several people to use their CC in a coordinated manner, and if everyone is throwing it up at odd times the bar won’t be broken when you need it to be.

I completely agree with Sirsquishy. Sure, the monetary rewards may not be all that high, but then go do something else. I have waited for raids a long time and I’m extremely pleased that Anet is finally making a concerted effort to add lasting endgame content.

I understand that people are upset over the lowered/eliminated rewards from dungeons, but I have seen very few people who have said they enjoy dungeons for things other than the gold they got. Are there really that few people who actually had fun in dungeons and did them for entertainment rather than gold?

Hey, add me to your contacts list. I really enjoy dungeons (and while the lower rewards are saddening they don’t change the fact that they are fun to do). It would be nice to experiment with Elite specs in them too
