Regen nerf is far too restrictive for PVE.

UnbentMars.9126

How about massively increase the amount that healing power affects regen tics, and allow it limited duration and effectiveness stacking? This way, healing builds that rely on regen buffing rather than straight healing (like eles) are now useful but require investing in healing power to be effective (which is as it should be) while avoiding issues with too much duration or too much effectiveness.

As it currently stands, regen’s max healing is nowhere near enough to be effective even when at full healing power.

Even though I am not particular a fan of those we haven’t had a defensive fractal so far.

Basically, you and your group (rather than progressing through the fractal normally) would defend a position (maybe even with siege equipment?) against advancing foes + a “siegebreaker” esque Boss at the end.

Think the Battle of Helms Deep from Lord of the Rings. Ideas:

Defending a Koda Sanctuary against Icebrood
Reverse Ascalon, this time as Humans against the Charr onslaught
etc.

The last day of Rata Novus against the Chak.

That would be perfect! A great opportunity for defense, a great way to show what happened, and plenty of room to use the fancy mechanics Anet has been showing off recently. Best part, they already have most of the assets so it wouldn’t be as likely to take much work from the art department!

:O yes a fractal about the actual guild wars would be awesome from a lore perspective!

In which case, the battle of Khylo might be a good fit, as there is some lore to it beyond just being a PvP map – IIRC the father of one of the GW1 characters (Devona?) was present at the battle.

I think Anet might be a little hesitant to do that one since it “exists” in pvp as a map, though I think an actual story and expanded map portion would be fantastic.

We obviously couldn’t use the entire Guild Wars as a fractal, but individual encounters/events in the Guild Wars could be used. A prominent fight between 2 or more of the more powerful guilds. Or when King Doric went and pleaded with the Gods to stop it, or even when Abaddon started the whole thing could all be good events from the Guild Wars to make a fractal out of

yea, I did once recommend a fractal where we are replaced by human models (just like Urban and Thaumanova) and we join Jadoth. The last fight would be at the beaches where Jadoth pleads to Abaddon, and we have to defend him. Then we get great power, and can fight back to the Mursaat, one of them being a boss.

Abimelech, the Usurper (Mursaat)
joined by
Cairn, The Unquestionable
Cairn, The Immaterial
Asaath, The Honest Truth
Seƶdda, The Ascendant

Abimalech is invulnerable, fighting the invulnerable Jadoth.
The players must kill the 4 champions, the last one standing will usurp the power, heal 66% of the lost health, and gains a more advanced version of his combat mechanic. Upon defeat, you can rejoin Jadoth and quickly despatch of Abimelech.

Now that sounds awesome. I’d love to see something like that, and with the new mechanics and fractal-style Anet has been showing I really think they could do an event like that justice.

hmm isnt that a big part of the story to be in a fractal if it had 1 very specific moment that could be used as fractal?

I mean, Anet hasn’t been very specific about the Guild Wars themselves, so there’s a ton of room for making something up. One example might be the battle that convinced King Doric to ask the gods to break up magic or something like that

Something with Glint’s lair in it. Or alternatively Glint and Destiny’s Edge fighting Kralk. As long as either Glint or her lair are the main focus of the fractal.

Twisted Marionette would be an awesome way to reintroduce that fight for players who didn’t play during LWS1.

And something darker. I really love the idea of being a mordremoth minion during the takedown of the Pact Fleet. Fighting against the pact.

Or something exploring Orr. Either post Zhaitan Orr where we have to take down several of the more powerful commanders left alive, or even farther back in history near when the Vizier Khilbron sank it into the ocean.

That would be awesome, seeing the fall of the pact fleet! Could be turned into some of the pact survivors and have to fight as our ship crashes, then maybe survive a few waves of enemies while we wait for the ‘pact commander’ and pact reinforcements to clear us a path back to the Silverwastes or something.

There’s so much pre-GW1 lore that could be explored, I’d love to see something involving the Luxons and Kurzicks or the original Shiro, or even visiting Balthazar’s battlefield

Recovering the Scepter of Orr and figuring out who has it would be incredible!

Something that just occurred to me, a great fractal would be finding Rytlock in the mists after he dove in after his sword. This would give a great opportunity to explore how he got his Revenant powers and the opportunity to see some locales we haven’t seen before (chaos and nightmare are incredible, but they aren’t made of new assets and locations).

See title for what the question is, please don’t include Fall of Abaddon, Anet should work on adding that anyway because its awesome.

I would like to see more events from GW1 make it in, and potentially some from pre-GW1. Potentially following King Doric’s fight to create the bloodstones, Glint fighting Kralkatorrik, a fractal involving Malyck (potentially even seeing him and his tree turn to Mordremoth, even if just as a way to wrap up that storyline).

ES Idea: Spellslinger

Honestly this sounds pretty cool. Granted, I play a spellslinger/arcanist in my pathfinder game, so I’m biased, but this seems like a very fun playstyle.

My only criticism is that all of the 1 skills seem like just reskins of each other, it would be interesting to see a little more variety there.

My main question: ele’s lack a viable condi build, and the way this is set up it seems to have a lot of potential for a good medium range condi, but it currently looks like the conditions are sort of flavor for a power-based build. What are your thoughts on modifying this to be more condition-based?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

Agreed. I love raids, and I love that they are actually challenges. The team that makes them is small but prolific and adds some of the best challenging content so far in the game! I want to see more, and I’m glad they are committed to it.

I am a huge fan of the idea of expanding the challenge mote system they have. While I don’t want a raid finder style easy mode, I do think the basic boss should be accessible to the majority of players. Adding loot and other rewards to those who activate the challenge motes is a great way to allow those who are only interested in the content for the story to access it while still rewarding those who do the content at its difficult point.

Other option, single player version with no loot where you tackle the basic raid and experience the story with your new guild NPCs and then actual loot and bosses saved for raid groups with the in game excuse of “going back in to clear it out”.

[Suggestion] A randomized deep dungeon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

I must admit a lack of knowledge on how well Anet’s tech would handle this, but procedural generation has a wealth of opportunity for something like this. A sort of “See how far our group can get” where you receive bosses from a random pool of enemies, or an event, each floor.

Every round the arena resets and a new thing spawns, be it a boss from a fractal, a boss from a dungeon, or a wave(s) of enemies and every round the enemies gain a buff that makes it progressively harder.

Difficulties are of course the creation and maintenance of this would likely be fairly difficult and time consuming, but I’m always a fan of letting the fans work to create some stuff. If Skyrim players can recreate half of Oblivion and Morrowind with the engine, we could probably make some dungeons. The main problem is dungeons designed to be easy loot farms, but Anet can always remove loot from the equation.

Its unlikely, but itd be nice to have more 5-man content

Dungeons related to the personal story in the upcoming expansion (so many opportunities for little side-stories that could have filled so many gaps, like having Malyk show up as a Mordrem or something to show where the other Sylvari went to). They wouldn’t even need to have multiple paths or individual armor/weapon sets even though it would be nice. More 5-man content!

Abaddon fractal

Each map to have a large meta-chain event on one side of the map, and the other side of the map to cycle through events normally so that people don’t feel forced to do the metas. I love the HoT map meta-events and want there to be more, but they shouldn’t take up the entire map.

A mix of Dragon Stand and Silverwastes-style meta event. The introduction of WvW mechanics into PvE was a lot of fun in the Silverwastes, and giving it an end-goal like Dragon Stand with a full map reset after the meta is over would really round it out. That said, the small events regarding a supply chain or something should be completable with only a few people to allow zergs to continue without punishing everyone.

Further separation of tanks, dps, and support. I love the flexibility that GW2 has, but the freewheeling nature ends up decreasing the viability of some types of characters because their role can be covered by someone else who can also provide the portions of the other roles (e.g. Chronotanks should be split between boon providers and actual tanks rather than being capable of doing both at the same time, at least not as effectively. Warriors should have to choose between dps and boon support, etc.)

Build saving! Please!

Rune/Sigil reorganization. For build-switching, sigils and runes are the bane of any inventory because they either force you to waste gold or to have a complete alternate set when there’s really no need. This could potentially be an extension of the wardrobe.

Swords for ele’s!

Practice dummies for guild halls

A wardrobe for tonics similar to the wardrobe for combat finishers so they stop taking up so much freaking space.

Dunno how this would work, but look into allowing dedicated players to design and create dungeons/fractals for you, limited to old events or unrelated items under Anets approval. Community developers are great resources for games like Skyrim, they can be for GW2 as well! It would also help release more content in instances so it wouldn’t affect the larger world, and would fit into the fractal system very well.

Challenge fractals! A subset of fractals where everything is scaled to 100 and you can add continual modifiers for challenges (more enemies, enraged enemies, half-healing, permanent debuffs like poison or something) to be an extra challenge for the real hardcore fractal players.

Why don't new fractal players say anything?

I often run into this problem too. A lot of people are afraid to say they’ve never done it because they think they might get booted from the group, which is the biggest reason thats been expressed to me. I always say that I’d rather explain something a dozen times than fail repeatedly only to find out someone’s never done it.

There are also some people who assume it will be easy since core tyria is also easy, and then fail to understand that they are the problem, but these are a very small minority.

I understand that much. The chances of getting booted for speaking up is slim though, I recently got over the hurdle of denying myself the nightmare fractal until 2 weeks ago, same with chaos fractal. Both of those someone was willing to explain. Not saying anything hampers the group because people assume you know what to do. The person that knew and I left that group because they weren’t even trying to understand.

For whatever reason, even if it isn’t case, the perception is that ‘newbs get booted’. It’s their own fault on that one since you expressed a desire to teach, so you shouldn’t trouble you

I miss hardcore world bosses

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

I do think that making world bosses ‘hardcore’ is a good idea, but I think that you run into the same problem where either you throw more and more people at is who just press 1 until the damage overwhelms the boss, or it scales to be hard enough to be impossible, and impossible content is fun for no one.

A potential alternate idea: Guilds can already use an ability to activate a specific world boss, and we have been wanting more Guild Missions for awhile. Why not create an instanced version of the harder world bosses for guilds, and tweak it to add an extra layer of difficulty to make it more hardcore with Mission-specific rewards?

This would add the incentive for guilds to do the content together, add more guild missions, add rewards for guilds to reach for as a whole that are unavailable to the regular world events, and add some hardcore content that isn’t locked in raids for those who don’t want to raid.

EDIT: I’d love to see the LS1 bosses make a comeback, but I think they are most likely to return in the form of Fractals rather than anything else. The upcoming Nightmare Fractal is a perfect example of how that’s going to work.

[Suggestion] Return of the Vanquisher Title

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnbentMars.9126

UnbentMars.9126

An alternate idea, to address the difficulties of doing it with a zone and the lack of a dungeon team to allow this to be added to dungeons (though I think it’s a fantastic idea):

Vanquisher Fractals.

-A separate tier of Fractals where all fractals are attuned to level 100 difficulty
-Respawns are disabled
-All Instabilities are active (or players can choose which ones are active, each activated instability adds a % chance for a Vanquisher token to drop or something).

Rewards increase for quick clears, under a benchmark time, but you are guaranteed some form of loot by the end so that taking it slow is viable but succeeding quickly is rewarded.

Vanquisher tokens could be used to buy the long-awaited Fractal Armor, and to ensure that people don’t just do the easiest fractal until they get enough tokens, you’d have to successfully complete all fractals to even unlock the vendor (or the Vanquisher Fractal you activate would be random and you aren’t allowed to exit and reenter to reroll, something like that).

Thoughts?

EDIT: Or, the Vanquisher Fractal would be just two boss rooms and some trash pulls in between, each boss is randomly selected from the pool of existing Fractal bosses or something like that. I don’t know if this is feasible for GW2, but I like that idea.

With mind magic you don’t need a soul. You just need psychic plants that can capture/store information from the dream.

While I agree that sylvari don’t have souls – we’ve seen none, and honestly there’s no indication that they do; same goes for any dragon minion, in fact, except those that imprison another being’s soul (such as certain high level risen) as far as we know – I disagree with this.

Malyck being why. He explicitly states, multiple times even after his apparently amnesia being discovered to not have been amnesia at all (he remembers all since awakening), that he has no ties to the Dream or Nightmare. So he is sapient without “information from the Dream”.

Furthermore, mordrem are mindless – if this was an attribute given to all minions of Mordremoth, then the mordrem would not be so.

But not all mordrem are mindless. In the mission Buried Insight in HoT story part 3, there’s a mordrem guard near the ley line flux outside Rata Novus that you can find. He makes several statements about not being able to hear Modremoth. If he was truly mindless, without Mordremoth’s overriding influence he simply wouldn’t be active. It shows that Mordremoth is an influencer and overrider rather than controlling mindless puppets.

Really? It’s not Anet’s job to monitor your spending habits and tell you when something coming up will make your purchase less useful. Additionally, their comments warning people were not specific numbers and the only language they used was in regards to tuning the numbers to balance things better. Acting as if that completely invalidates the entire build is ridiculous knee-jerking at best.

Even if Chrono’s get nerfed through the ground, they are still the only source of Alacrity. As such, they have a permanent home in raids. As it stands, they straight up said that the adjustments will be minor and not the sweeping reductions that would be necessary for the kind of nerf that would have to happen to make Chrono’s and mesmers completely value-less in raids as you assert.

Finally: There are so many ways to get free ascended gear in this game. Spending 1000 gold was your decision. I got my completely ascended Chronotank there by spending less than 100g via fractal dailies, elite spec collections, and Season 3 rewards. Don’t blame Anet for your choice.

I know this doesn’t really help, but Ember Bay used to be directly west of Seis in Malchor’s. They shifted it’s location on the Map because it was messing with the original map art design.

I’m trying to find an older screengrab, I’ll edit this when I have it

EDIT: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Ring_of_Fire_map.jpg
Best I can find on short notice. It’s not quite perfectly west of Seis, but it’s a lot farther north than the new location. My guess, in regards to why the Asura went there, was because it was the easiest and safest location to set up a base camp. Closer to the central volcanoes probably was already completely overrun by Destroyers. To back up my point, the southernmost area of the island appears to be the only portion far enough away from the various calderas and craters to have any greenery on it. I would wager that the islands north of Ember Bay are much more desolate, similar to the crater where Vermingus is.

Synergy of classes - roles missing

Something to keep in mind: Since Elite Specs are so far above traditional specializations, that means that they factor the heaviest (i.e. the primary limiting function) into player choices for builds. Secondly, since there is only one Elite Spec per profession so far, that limits choice simply by being there.

When the next expansion comes out and round 2 of Elite Specs are released, I’m betting we will see a ton more variety as the new Elite Specs are highly likely to fill roles that 1st round Elite Specs do not, in the same way that 1st round Elite Specs dramatically altered how most classes worked in comparison to traditional specializations.

Example: Traditional Mesmers could NEVER have tanked as they are simply too squishy and their abilities would not allow them to mitigate damage effectively. Chronomancer addressed that by allowing them to become incredibly effective at mitigation and holding aggro while remaining a staple for boonsharing.

The other reason for the mediocre variety is that some classes simply synergize with others better. Guardians may have permanent protection uptime as tanks, but protection can be provided by everyone whereas Alacrity can only be provided by Mesmers. Combining an alacrity boonshare into the tank using the Chronomancer is simply more efficient as a strategy.

Same with why everyone is in condi and zerker builds; if you are skillful enough you can go through most of the ingame content without needing tanky stats, and being able to kill things fastest is a large part of that. The introduction of raid mechanics into the open world PvE and the increased difficulty level of enemies overall starting in HoT has been fantastic, but not to the point where generic content requires alternate builds to succeed. I think making room for tanky builds and healer builds is great, but by design both are group-centric and work best with group content rather than the solo content that open-world stuff is focused on.

How would you solve the issue at hand?

It is as free as season two was. If you log in for atleast 0,00001 sec during the latest episode you will get it for free. But if you did not log in for example during last episode with the bloodstone fen map then you have to pay a few gems to unlock it.

I wasn’t active during Season 2, so I had to pay for the content. But I did not have to pay any gems or real money for Season 3. I’m confused. Are you being sarcastic with the “0.00001 sec”? I don’t know of anyone who — at this point — had to pay for Season 3.

No one’s had to pay for season 3 because if they logged in while it was active content, they got it for free forever. Same with Season 2

Bloodstone Fen and Embar Bay

I think Bloodstone Fen was a fun zone to play in. I think Ember Bay isn’t. This leads me to assume that mistakes were made, even though many people may disagree with me, and I believe everyone should Learn from your mistakes.
In my opinion, The whole HoT expansion content was good but not perfect.

Imagine the next expansion with what Bloodstone Fen have and the in my opinion little things in Ember Bay that are good and that would be the ultimate expansion ,in my opinion, though I recognize others may disagree. I believe that The good things in Ember Bay is repeatable hearts and the thermal propulsion.

Fractals:
All the changes I ever wanted, fantastic job team! The new instabilities are tons of fun, the removed ones were the frustrating and unchallenging ones so I am super happy (definitely trying to figure out whats going on with our mystery candidate though).

Changes to toughness scaling and health – FINALLY thank you!
New fractal hub design and features – it’s beautiful, I want to spend more time there even though Ember Bay is hogging my time
Swamp – I want to pause on this and express my gratitude for the team’s changes to swamp. The difficulty of the mechanics has not been impacted, but the fight has been streamlined. Love it. Thank you for not making it easier while removing the less-than-fun parts.
Elementalist mist form no longer spawns a 2nd Avenger? We are now on par with every other classes escape mechanism! Thank you!

WvW/PvP – I don’t do these so no comment other than I hope that the default builds are the precursors to build templates for PvE!

Haven’t explored the new legendary yet (don’t even own one) so I’ll leave that to others.

Ember Bay:
Love the design (I love the jungle feel but a nice rocky and molten map is right up my alley)
Love the size – Bloodstone Fen and Silverwastes size maps are nice, but there’s nothing like traversing something truly large, especially since it maintains the high-density feel of the HoT maps instead of being vast open spaces like some of the less popular Core Tyria maps.
Repeatable Hearts: Perfect. Only suggestion is moar.
New JPs – Thanks for making them actually challenging, love the aesthetic too!
Still exploring, so more comments to come.

Story: Not going to spoil anything, but great job stepping up to the plate on plot advancement Really appreciate the direction and style that y’all are taking.

I’d say being able to buy ascended weapon/armor boxes (even at obscenely high pristine relic costs) would be a nice sink, and would also further increase the fractal-going population.

Congradulations. That’s some smart deduction. But can you figure out who’s the father of Marjory’s baby?

Rytlock obviously

How is that possible? I thought he was “fixed”.

The mists rejuvenated him, reversing the neutering. The baby is going to be the half-human half-charr Scion of the Mists who will finally reunite Kryta and Ascalon, and forge an unending Furry partnership between the humans and the Charr.

It’s birth will convince Jennah and Smodur to finally profess their love for one another and the ceremony will be so beautiful that the Separatists will be convinced to lay down their arms and the Fire Legion will repent and be forgiven, only to be welcomed back into the fold.

The baby will be supercharged with Mists energy and grow up to adulthood in 24 hours and be a natural leader and strategist, taking over the Pact Marshal position, marrying an Asura for love and politics, and leading the united might of the races of Tyria (also the Grawl who now worship the baby as a god) against the remaining Elder Dragons, wiping them out once and for all.

The heroism shown by the baby will be enough to convince the human gods to show up again because we’ve earned their love once more, and Dhuum, Menzies, Balthazar, and Grenth will all kiss and make up with each other. And then we all live happily ever after.

Except the Skritt. The baby isn’t shiny enough to warrant their attention.
