I’ve put a lot of thought into a system that, while it wouldn’t fully bring GW1’s system back, would spice up the skill system without completely re-designing the game.

Did you take into account the Grandmaster trait “Harmonious Mantras” which allows mantras to be cast 3 times instead of 2?

What is your opinion on the mantras with this trait included?

Makes them worthwhile.

Shouldn’t need a grandmaster trait for them to be worthwhile though.

Moa is undoubtedly broken, so is time warp.

No mesmer elite is balanced, mass invisibility is outmatched by veil.

I was going through the lower zones and I found out why Orr is so bad.

The lower level zones have so much hidden stuff, the terrain changes and there’s that feeling of awe.

Orr just feels bland, a island of sand. There’s hidden stuff, but the risen try as hard as possible to stop you from finding it.

But yeah, I do find 8v8 is still too much.
For the design, it should be one global number and I feel 5v5 works the best.

I see a lot of people saying mesmer is OP, but without really explaining why (outside of downed.

They can counter almost every other class without gimmicky glass cannon builds, but in all honesty, all classes should be able to.

Most of the OP builds for other classes require some glass cannon build (100b, HS), but the mesmer builds don’t. At least from what I’ve seen.
The only other class that comes close is guardian, maybe engineers (pre nerfs at least).

Are they unbalanced, yes, compared to everyone else.
OP? No, everyone else is just UP.

(excluding down state, that’s OP)
Just my thoughts on balance.

Do any of you use mantras?
I’ve been messing around with them, I decided to make a build based on the healing you get with a trait.
Not even that made them viable.

Lets look at the mantras we get right now.
Mantra of Recovery – 3s charge time for 2740×2 healing
10s CD, probably the best PvE heal, overlooked because of the charge time though.

Mantra of Pain – 3s charge for 324 × 2 damage
No CD, for the charge time, you could use your auto attack and deal more, the plus is you can attack while CC’d/ charging another attack.

Mantra of Resolve – 3s charge for 2 condition cleanse.
20 second CD, null field or arcane thievery has no cast time and clears all conditions, but 45s CD.

Mantra of Concentration – 3s charge for 2 CC breakers
25 second CD, Blink has 30 second CC for a blink skill that also breaks CC, no charge.

Mantra of Distraction – 3s charge for 2 dazes (1s)
30 second CD, Signet of domination stuns 2s on 45 CD

It seems that the mantras are the best bet, but they’re REALLY hurt by the charge time. You cannot use them effectively in PvP, anything that CCs you will stop the charge, and 3s is a lot.

I think the charge should be lowered to 1.5s, increase the CD if you need to.

The problem is, for any AI, it’s predictable.
You can randomize it all you want, but it comes down to repetition.

GW2, Dark Souls, Touhou, every game follows this.

People don’t use AI, they can change up whatever they’redoing on the fly.

When Guild Wars 1 was released about 4 months later they introduced a new zone, a new instance, new outpost and new quests. So i would expect a new content to hit gw2 world around that time. I doubt they could prepare that type of content in such a short time!

It;s way too early to judge, there’s no meta at all yet.

They need spectator and ranking to even have a chance.

Really, if gold was really easy to get, the price of gems would rise to a point it’d be hard for anyone but grinders to get.
That, and people would have more incentive to buy it.

I think they’re trying to prevent inflation, it was a massive problem in GW1.

I really haven’t seen a team build that relies on combos yet, and really I don’t blame the team.
Combos are a nice system, but really, they can be pretty weak.

The only real GOOD ones I’ve seen are projectile -> smoke screen (blind) and blast -> chaos armour (really good for clones) and both can be activated by 1 person.

Something like water field -> blast finisher is seen as useless because the heal amount is REALLY low.

They gotta be stronger, then team comps based on combos will come to play, making the gameplay deeper in 5v5s.

it aint easy for groups to coordinate right now, and the game doesnt encourage that.

its an all out zerg fest on most champions.

im ok with it, because the game is more “action” than “tactic”.
but anet can definitely improve was for players to play together.
as this will be the way to make the game last.

as of now, playing together feels like playing with npcs.
nobody have the time to type things to do/plans/call outs.

i dont have a solution, but it definitely should be a point of focus for the creative gameplay designers.

For DEs, you really can’t expect 50+ people to work together.
It was the same as RIFt’s world bosses too, but MORE people zerging.

Lets take a break from crying like 3 year olds and actually talk about the game.

I was thinking about the sigil system, how it could be expanded.
We have pretty basic stuff now, but it feels kinda similar to diablo.

What would be stopping arenanet from adding increased attack speed sigils, really superior sigil of rage adds quickness.

Did arenanet design this like this on purpose? It’s awfully similar to the slotting system diablo/torchlight/PoE has.

Could it be expanded?
Would anyone else like to see randomly generated dungeons or something?

What I would do to save dungeons.

The dungeons aren’t worth it.

We all play for that little rush, and in current dungeons you don’t get it.
You can fix this without introducing gear treadmill, very easily too.

1. Rewards
The rewards you get are terrible. Not talking about the cosmetics, as of last patch dungeons have become a gold sink, not even for the CHANCE of making money, you’ll almost always lose it. Reverse the change. In fact, give us more for doing the dungeons. You get much more from doing event chains in Orr and it costs much less time and money.

2. Tokens
Change the way tokens work.
Tokens are universal now, for each dungeon. Not soulbound either.
Instead of buying the gear, they buy mystic forge pieces. “Unbound” pieces.
You can buy the bindings from the vendors or have them drop.

For example, forging a staff piece and a twilight binding gets you a twilight arbour staff. The bindings are very cheap.
1h weapon – 1 run
2h weapon – 2 runs
chest piece, legs – 3 runs
shoulders, helmets – 2 runs
boots, gloves – 1 run

3. Remove grave rushing
It’s making content trivial.
You don’t feel like you’ve accomplished anything when you’ve just grave rushed the boss.
“Well don’t die then”
I obviously don’t die on purpose and I’m not going to just wait for my team to res me.
Make waypoints locked when the boss is aggroed.

4. Balance
This is obvious.

The real term is “time barricade”.

“raid progression” does not grow your character, all it does it barricade you from content.

Its an unfortunate occurrence in all forums in all games where the naysayers dominate the conversation, while those people that like the game rarely post or even bother with forums.

Which gives the illusion that “everyone” is horribly dissatisfied with the game. When its really a pretty small percentile.

It’s definitely the outspoken minority vs the silent majority, which makes sense. People are going to be less inclined to voice opinions if they’re positive as opposed to soap-boxing inane issues.

Eventually you start to realize that responding to these people and actually trying to be constructive is a waste of time.
I’ve realized it.

Don’t get titles from dungeons as far as I’m concerned.
You get barely any junk to sell, or crafting components, that’s the PROBLEM everyone is trying to address.
Don’t get karma either.
Gear is less than my current gear too.
I can get more money from doing DEs.

Opening chests gives you awful loot, loot you can’t even wear.
Like 60 copper.

Unless you’re really pro, you’re probably going to get downed, but the loot you get doesn’t even cover the repair costs.

I know the cosmetics are there, but it’s a long term reward, we need SOME short term rewards.

Everyone crying about difficulty please leave though.

Problem is you progress through the game so fast it doesn’t feel epic or lengthy.

A trip to 80 takes at least 50 hours. If you don’t think that’s lengthy, it might be time to go outside.

The thing is, the reward is there, but it’s so far in the distance it doesn’t seem worth it at all.
Small things while we’re getting it would ease it, but they’re moving backwards with the last patch.
The rewards are awful, making it a gear treadmill would be even worse.

I haven’t once gone over 2 gold, there’s way too many gold sinks, not enough ways to make gold.

Why do you feel the need to have a big pile of gold? I’ve never had more than 3G at any given time, but I have all my trait books, I bought that silly cooks outfit partially with gems I got with gold. I’ve upgraded my weapons and armor fairly regularly and experimented with some of the different runes. I’ve leveled my crafting skills halfway up. I bought a piece of cultural armor I liked the look of. I take way points when I feel like it and can always afford my repair costs. I’ve given my alts some start-up funds and contributed to my guild so we could get a commander book for WvW. I really haven’t felt poor.

I think the problem here is that a gold in this game is much more valuable than a gold in other MMOs and so our sense of scale is off. What would you rather have 100 Yen or 1 Euro?

Because exotics, crafting and legendaries.
