How to beat Holo, Scarlet, Knights, and whoever. I cannot find one.
I usually stand by to rez people who are spawning. The entire fight’s been frustrating and simply not fun. Knights are fine. Would love to see this really cool ending everyone’s talking about.
My lover is working toward a fused skin right now — the last thing she wants is to spend money just to have the privilege of finishing the living story. How does that even scale for newbies? They’ll just throw all their money into building this backpiece?
People are saying the spinal backpiece is required at exotic level in order to go through the portals.
Sharp observation. I’m inclined to agree.
Proposal Overview
Random Events & Similar Mechanics
Goal of Proposal
Add variance to the otherwise predictable nature of WvW.
Proposal Functionality
I see WvW and EOTM as two extremes: WvW is very stable, predictable, flat, aesthetically pretty basic. Ruins were a very nice addition to WvW and they’re going in the right direction. EOTM is WvW’s crazy artsy sister who’s very interesting but can get on your nerves at times.
I say leave camps and towers alone as far as the enemies inside; I want to be able to solo-cap a camp in WvW, and if I can’t, I’m going to be very turned off. Make events that have randomized timers of 2 -3 hours (and less for lesser events) that will add variance to WvW.
Imagine you’re in a zerg and suddenly, somewhere on the map, a “zerg” of ghost NPCs spawns and will be alive for the next 15 minutes. They do moderate damage but have a lot of health and will chase you down, wasting your zerg’s time and generally being a nuisance. You must avoid them.
Imagine another: just like in PvE, some kind of collection NPC spawns and says they will give the aid of their people if you help them out. Almost like how the quaggans were. Or perhaps they’ll just give everyone around them a five-minute speed/HP buff.
Associated Risks
People may simply hate the events. “Oh, have to go kill 100 grubs to get her stupid buff.” “WTF these awful ghosts again”.
Good events could create a hub for chaos. Example: buff NPC spawns, everyone wants her buff, you’ve got huge zergs pouring in on this tiny event. This could either way: it’s either a great time or just a mess.
People waiting for these events to spawn. There should be no pre-events and the timers should be wide enough that people can’t just dawdle about; also, ideally, these will not all spawn in a single spot.
This is great. I was happily surprised to hear Taimi talk about her legs, so plainly and like a young Asura. “They don’t work right!” I think she’s a great character, and I think this is a strength of GW2. Yes, 99% of all problems are solved with violence, and this is a very war-driven living story and will likely stay that way. But if you look into the smaller nooks of GW2 and if you go out of the way to talk to NPCs, you’ll see a lot of character and many people with different views on things. I hope to see more of Taimi and strong characters like her in the coming LS installations.
They don’t hate anyone. :P It’s an oversight that will be fixed on Monday, I’m sure.
By Ogden’s Hammer! What an update!
Darkhaven as well. 2,866. Everyone seems mostly confused. :P
Could use more waypoints and a little more care from players. Other than that I’m having a good time.
EotM is really something. I had a blast narrating the long journies of my fellow scorpion-mobiles last night. We got crushed, mostly — the mobile siege weapons always need escorts — but it was so much fun.
The scorpions now make their slow migration to the enemy base. This will be their third attempt at nesting this hour.
I think with minor work, I’ll be hanging out more in EotM than “WvW”. “WvW” needs something more than new opponents to keep things interesting.
You might find you belong more in sPvP than WvW, then. WvW is not a “fair” battleground to begin with. It is war.

Note the legendaries are certainly something you don’t have to do.
And hey! It’s really only 60 laurels + 1500 badges extra if you don’t want to play. You even get loot out of the rank-up boxes.
Automatic turrets that knock down and deal a bunch of damage (ohh and they aim better than players do), quicksand, lots of places to get knocked off, traps
It’s hard to not read this as praise. Today we fought for a territory and I stayed behind (left the zerg) to do a PvE event to kill air elementals for essence, which charged an altar, which turned me into an invincible (?) fast-moving spark of light for three minutes, with only one skill: a pretty sweet explosion that returns me to my original form.
I haven’t even tried out the workshop transformations. What you describe is engaging, interesting, and leaves room for a lot of growth. The days of a BL’s lonely island in the middle of a boring Krait-filled like are over.
Maybe 5s knockdown’s a bit much. If that’s what you’re talking about.
I’m getting a lot of skill lag with the marionette event specifically. I’ve seen it in WvW, but it goes away quickly. Wurm hasn’t bothered me yet. Today it happened thrice and the latest time it happened within two minutes of even starting the event, and it happens both in and out of overflow. I have “above average” internet as well, I’m never DC’d or running slowly otherwise. The skill lag prevents any skill from being used.
I haven’t found much to fix it. Today I tried to leave the overflow and come back via party invite, and I did, and it fixed it. Of course, that disqualified me from the event completely… and we won. I got no chest or marionette chest. That really stunk. :/

Vael whispers, “Watchwork.”
Ascended gear is hardly “even ground”, and laurels provide progression away from money for a total of 5 ascended pieces.
Sorrow’s Embrace P1 is the most lucrative dungeon path. You’ll get at least 5 champ boxes and 1G in 15-20 mins, and it’s faceroll easy. CoF’s good too.
and I guess it shrinks the pile into one plank.
Yes.
I just got credit for opening the 4 gifts today. Girlfriend tries and doesn’t get it. Makes no sense. She didn’t even try for yesterday’s daily because it was the jumping puzzle, so I don’t know about any cooldown.
I can confirm that I got a 40% discount on the bundle as expected, on the 29th of December.
Has anyone purchased a key bundle for a friend and seen a reduction of 40% for themselves, due to this month’s gifting special?
I never feel like thieves are OP, I think they have a high skill ceiling and they need to be learned to be properly played. With warriors, I don’t want to say they’re OP, but they do feel like they’re just capable of doing it all. I don’t like that such a tanky class can run away from the fight as well, but that depends on both players’ builds.
Also, remember the APs we got, at least.
I didn’t feel like it was that bad, as a second place server member. However, I did expect to get some badges and maybe even some laurels. :/ I think everyone’s a bit burned out on WvW and this really didn’t help.
ANet said there would be no dragon-related content in the LS this year. +1 if this is mordremoth, though.
I don’t think server transfers will fix much. I’d rather see something along the lines of “greatly outnumbered” where ANet commits the cardinal sin of giving +10% stats to those who have greatly less numbers on the map, or even across all maps. Along with higher bonuses. I just feel bad for Anvil Rock in our matchup; they can hardly capture anything without being run over in the war between us and HoD. I imagine their players feel helpless and would like some artificial help.
Jeez, it wasn’t that bad. The bloody prince fight was surprisingly awful, but I felt the rest of Halloween was done well. I wasn’t around last year, however.
Particle density is my only request. I don’t think this is a very serious issue, but it’s one that could be addressed. Legendaries really shouldn’t be changed, but I’d like to see a stream of the effect rather than weird footprint blots on the map.
I consider these people griefers. I think a system should be in place that will not reward a player if they get less than, say, 100 points. That should also slightly discourage hiding.
Otherwise it’s just the design of the game. It’s not a bad minigame at all; I find it very interesting, and the item-finding events engaging. It is weak to griefers and farmers. S’all. Rewards could probably be a bit higher for villagers who survived.
WvW will never be balanced, and that’s a good thing. It is a war, and war isn’t fair. I do wish there was some kind of 1v1 dueling system in place so we could have balanced duels, though. Some day, I’m sure. Along with Polymock.
Also: your opinion is humorously wrong, Xae.
FWIW, I have been single-capping camps and sentries as a roamer for about six months now. I was capable with full exotics. I think most professions should be able to do that. When it comes to towers, small groups are always capable. The achievements are possible without ever “having” to be in, say, a 20+ group. I see only 3 that I think would require a large group.
Your dream is a WvW nightmare.
We can all agree this is silly. I would like to see Ruin Mastery of some sort.
- cap ruins a little faster
- on cap, get a 15-second movement boost
- ruin cannons cost 5 supply less to build
Stuff like that.
I’d rather see Outnumbered give a stat boost of some sort, or maybe +5 carrying capacity. Maybe a buff for everyone who’s outnumbered and within “nearby” range of each other. Your idea would just frustrate people who want to play.
ye you are a total ranker and you are in wvw 24/7 thats cool. now lets think about ppl who doesnt sit in wvw all day and ppl on not so strong wvw servers but still want those achievements. lets not see this from our point of view ONLY.
Ah! You don’t focus on WvW but want to do the WvW achievements and wonder why they take you so long. The better you get at it, the faster they should come. You may not realize that some people log in and do WvW for 3 straight hours, then log off. I think the achievement’s more for people willing to happily sit for an hour or more.
You need to learn to convey your ideas in a less aggressive manner, and probably with better formatting. I think waypoints are just a bit too expensive, or at least would like to see a max cost cap for when I’m going from Rata Sum to Blazeridge.
I don’t agree that each swap should cost you money. I’m willing to even spend gems to be able to swap my build, but I think two slots should be given to everyone.
The only gold sink involved would be if you want to change traits on any build. If I feel like WvWing for ten minutes, and it costs me 6 silver x2 (soon after I may want to do a dungeon) then I will be really turned off.
Did someone take a video? This sounds like a fun/ny bug.
Be mindful that this is a game that made possible only by players support and purchases.
And that by listening to all stupid suggestions or otherwise spending time they don’t have on features, the game will be worse, population will dwindle, and there will be no one to support the game.
I don’t think english is his native language. You can report people by clicking on them, right-clicking their nameplate, and selecting report. However, I’m not sure if it’s good reason to report someone. They probably are leeching, but there’s no way to really know (?) if they are genuinely AFK or not.
One-part speculation, one-part hope that we can get an answer from ANet. I have 71 laurels that are just sitting there, could use a bit more motivation to do dailies. I want to use them to buy ascended weapons, even with a cost like 60 laurels + some ascended items you don’t need to craft for. I have the money to craft ascended weapons, but I have no interest in leveling from 100 -> 500, which is what my weaponsmithing is at. It just wouldn’t be fun for me. (and hey, money)
Is it policy that having many ways to play and progress ends at ascended items, but more extreme with weapons/armor? Meaning it is a design choice to have it so that crafting and gold are more important than they were for trinkets.
This is a nice topic. I applaud ANet for making each class unique and feel unique beyond the standard ranged/melee/magic format. My necro has the death shroud. Eles are… eles. Mesmers have their illusions. A good thief doesn’t have to die if they don’t want to.
Away from the MMO, it feels like it could be a great singleplayer RPG.
I think WvW is great, with minor flaws. It’s what I “always wanted in a game”, just massive battles. Yesterday a small group and I took a tower, and it happened to have a nice view, and we all just chilled there for a second. One person said “I love this game.” and we concurred. I love this game. :P
I was there for the first two… wish I’d stuck around for the third! Here’s to hoping this saturday night is another success. :}
My experiences have not been much like what OP said.
Consider some praise for the system, and a small argument to the OP: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Thanks-from-a-roamer/first#post2868381
I also want to say how pleased I am with these changes! Zergs have no reason to be getting these points, but zergs can still benefit from the roamers. I zerg, but I also roam a lot or break off from a zerg I feel isn’t worthy of my time. These cap points are the best place to be, and they’re not a big open field that zergs can traverse as easily.
The finishers for points is just genius: zergs hardly get finishers! If they want to, they’ll have to coordinate, and this gives one final boon to a player downed from a zerg: get yourself killed, but not finished.
While higher population servers could get more people on to hold these down, I can’t say it’s been the case in my four hours of WvW so far vs. a team that has double the points of my world.
Bravo. :} Now let’s get leagues started.
(edited by Vael Victus.2654)
I think it’d be cool if you could join a team – your home world doesn’t matter anymore, you’re fighting for this world now. But then it wouldn’t be “World vs World” anymore.
