Brand new class (not a Gw1 class)

Symmetry is overrated. There is absolutely no reason to have a 3rd heavy armor class except for the sake of having a 3rd heavy armor class. Unless there’s an actual reason beyond that, making an ‘evil’ warrior seems pointless. I don’t even care if it was already said that the next profession will be a heavy to round everything out, its still a bad idea unless this third class can stand on their own, instead of just being a warrior with an ‘evil’ tag, or a heavy armor version of another profession.

I disagree. I like the heavy armored look more than others. But I only have 2 play options compared to people that like light/med armor which have 3 each.

GW1 had 5 light classes, vs 3 for medium and heavy, and no one complained… A 3rd heavy class would barely suit in here, because guardians and warriors fill the general categories of “brawler” and “heavy mage”…

Don’t believe it’s rurik, or he changed his armor when he was dead…

Ghosts in GW2 mainly us GW2 armors… Like King Adelbern’s armor is different in GW2 than in GW1, or Anton, or Barradin…
But the ghost’s helmet reminds me of Turai Ossa rather than Rurik, yet the armor is far from similar…

New dragon, yeah! Though not Mordemoth…but hopefully a new world boss. That’d be great :-)

Not quite like Ogden at 0:55… And indeed it’s a dragon we’ve already seen.

Dervish Profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

VergilDeZaniah.3295

Why is everyone talking about a 3rd heavy class? For the sake of symetry? GW1 had 5 light professions, 3 medium and 3 heavy and nobody complained…

Of course, not a single game can be balanced (except if every character had the same amount of life, attack, defense, range, etc), therefore saying “a new profession will cause balance issues” is right, yet not totally: the game is already unbalanced.

Also, before any new profession we need new skills and weapons (with switchable skills) to create brand new builds and add variation to the gameplay.

Dervish could work (my 2nd main in GW1), and could totally happen lore-wise. I hope they have time and resources to create this profession (or something similar), but I would prefer more skills for the professions we already have. I hope they won’t find a silly excuse (“Palawa killed everyone, they all dead, no more dervish lol u mad”). If we happen to enter new continents, of course we will have new skills and/or professions: it’s impossible to have the same evolution of professions in three secluded continents.

Anyway: dear ANet, pwease bring skills and/or professions, and there’s no excuse not to do so.

I’m curious to see what’s coming next, but I’m not hyped.

I wouldn’t mind if what’s coming next takes the form of LS-like updates that grant us new gameplay abilities, skills, weapons, etc. I don’t mind it takes a year to discover a new continent, all I want to say is that the game is, to most of us, pretty much stagnant. We need variation in the way we play (I don’t play such weapons or such skills because I like them but rather because they are the most viable option), that’s what GW2 lacks.

I’ve been pretty absent lately, and I know I’m not missing much, if anything at all, but I would be sad if I were to quit GW2 because it didn’t advance anymore.

Anyway, bring on the news, ANet, we are looking at you!

Can you imagine each expansion bringing a different WvW map EB + borderlands too. Asian themed WvW in Cantha, African themed in Elona?
So not only we have borderlands rotations every week, also a map change..
I can dream can I.

That’s what I’ve been dreaming about since release! I really like borderlands, but I would love them if they were themed (even Cursed Shore-themed and Maguuma-themed maps) just to offer uniqueness to ever map.

But to stay on topic… I can’t wait to see if there will be something new regarding Cantha!

I’ve only read till page 2 (I’ll read more later)

Seriously guys, your only argument is “they said they’re not working on an expansion so they probably aren’t”?

Remember the manifesto? They said they would do the game in a way, but it ends up pretty different… “It won’t be ‘Hey I swung a sword again!’” anyone?

Also, they have their policy of “we won’t talk about anything until it’s 100% done”, so I’m sure they won’t talk about it until a month or two before release, because that’s how they’ve always done.

There’s a big difference between what is said and what is done. Just because 1,5 years ago they said something doesn’t it was true or still valid right now.

Time will tell, one week left until the teaser.

On topic: I’ve been playing far less these days, losing my fun in repetitive activities. If there’s no expansion (might it be in a big bulk, or tiny bits à la LS, but better), I won’t be funding the game anymore and I’ll do something more breath-teaking and thrilling: knitting.

Bloodstone dust: Tyrian steroids?

in Lore

Posted by: VergilDeZaniah.3295

VergilDeZaniah.3295

Hi everyone!

Today, I was reading the wiki about the Bloodstone-related foods, and I wondered: what if the introduction of this “joke” is actually a smart move towards improvements of classes?

Let me explain:

  • The Bloodstone is a stone that contains uncorrupted magic.
  • The fragments each belong to a certain school of magic.

Thus far, it’s easy to understand, but what if the Bloodstone dust we ingest serves as a catalyzer?

This would “unlock” knowledge to each class, giving them more powerful spells/skills to use, some forgotten, some new.

With the tons of BSD roaming around Tyria (enough to recreate 45 Bloodstones), it would be easy to believe that everyone would get rid of these glittering artifacts and why not consume them. The consumption would then empower the characters’ abilities.

Therefore
Characters + bloodstone food = new powers!

What do you guys think? And nope, I haven’t consumed any myself

How is this last one not a cliffhanger? It ended right as we were about to go in the door…. If that’s not a cliffhanger, then I don’t know what is.

A cliffhanger is unexpected, while the door had been shown for a week…

A real cliffhanger would have been the door being open, followed by a sound or a short cinematic.

There isn’t much different between this break and the break we took last year, or the year before, for the same reasons. I understand you’re all excited for episode 8, but it wouldn’t make much sense for Wintersday to happen after the new year.

The break for Wintersday wasn’t really unexpected, but i think it would have been received far better if the LS didn’t already managed to get a history of long breaks. And if the Episode 6 didn’t end up on cliffhanger, that the episode 7 not only didn’t resolve, but also added to.

Basically, if you plan on a break, it is a bad form to do it just after a cliffhanger followed by a filler episode. It’s also not good to get in the habit of taking breaks too often. Even if every single one seems reasonable.

That’s the spirit: a break is logical because we all need one, but a break after that

The point of Season 2?

in Lore

Posted by: VergilDeZaniah.3295

VergilDeZaniah.3295

As many said, the weakest point of LS2 is actually its diversity.

To me, the pacing of the releases is acceptable: one every two weeks is good to keep people interested in the story without too many huge breaks (oh wait…). However, the content of each patch is terrible unbalanced: some are so awesome I wanted to play them again and again (Glint’s lair), but some are so insipid that they should have been part of a bigger update (last week’s patch).

About the story, sometimes it’s really breathe-taking, and deep (the library! I spent literally hours in there) but you guys are trying to hard to add cliffhangers that the story goes all around the place without even having a clear aim.

For example.
Ritlock disappeared: really good cliffhanger (IMHO), but it has been months and no once cares about him, so bad story step.
The doors: we were teased with doors, nice story step because we want to now what they mean, bad cliffhanger because you gave us the teaser that is actually the cliffhanger, and we will have to wait a full month before knowing what’s behind it. A better cliffhanger would have been a slight peak of what inside (with a cinematic maybe).

There’s also that huge flower-thing in Dry Top, does anybody care about it? Negative.
Anise seemed to be doing something really important… Two months ago.

The story isn’t going from point A to B with additions in between. It’s going from point A to B in the first patch, then from B to C in the second, from C to D in the third, etc, without making much sense.

The ideas are really good, but the realization is quite poor, the pacing could be good if the quality were equal with each release, and if the story wasn’t predictable with so many cliffhangers.

We had some ups with LS2, but we had many more downs.

I’m sure they can’t keep up with the pace they promised: I could bet a lot that they don’t test the patches (if I was given 1€ for each typo in French…)

I’m getting really disappointed, because for every up we get several downs. I’ve always been positive about the game, now I just let it be, I don’t advertise it to friends anymore. The schedule is bad, so are the updates (or at least the last ones are bad because too short and soooo predictable). One cliffhanger is good, but a cliffhanger every time without answering any question… Who cares about Ritlock or the egg?

Too bad that this supposed-to-be-awesome game is just an average cash-grabbing bunch of pixels.

Just because content is temporary, does not mean that it is not content.

True, but my point is: if you compare GW2 on release day and GW2 as it is right now, it doesn’t have as much content as you say it has. It had content, but barely has anything new.

GW2 as it is now cannot be considered as having much new content, and the fact they keep pushing new things away with poor (and shameless) excuses is ridiculous.

I admit, GW2 is free, it’s beautiful and I really like the gameplay. But compared to what we were promised, it’s a shame, and the keep hitting the franchise while it’s on the ground (for players who lived GW1).

We cannot say ANet didn’t do anything, but we can’t say they did anything significant.

Read my posts. I stated that there was perement content and temporary content. Both are considered content.

If I get it right, you’ve got temporary money on your bank account, but if it reaches 0, you still have it since it’s money (even if it’s temporary).

So temporary is permanent because even if it’s invisible it still exists. Therefore permanent is permanent and temporary is temporary.

Makes total sense.

Wow lol

Nah seriously, your logic is hard to get.

They did some job BUT removed it, and we should still consider they made it and that is it part of the final product we have, and we should understand that after two years they did twice more than what we see.

So, as a translator, I erased a third of the chapters I already translated (the first ones!), and I release a book, everyone must understand that I did my job yet removed content, but you can’t say I didn’t do what I had to do since I did it for the lucky ones that could witness my translating process.

I do not understand why ArenaNet are deliberately trying to kill this game!
Almost ZERO content has been added since release, and any content that is added is either finished within an hour or removed.

I do not understand why you feel the need to deliberately post false statements!

If he’s going to argue that there’s no content, the least you could do is back up your response. Cause’ right now you’re going to lose this battle my friend.

Technically it’s up to the one stating there’s a lack of content to post their evidence as they’re the one who made the argument first.

My friend, you are not diving deep enough into this argument. Look forward not back.

Yeah… Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not on him to provide the evidence. Arnath stated that almost zero content was added without provide any proof and mtpelion challenged it.

If you want, I can state that the state the Earth is flat, have you challenge this, and then say that you must prove me wrong.

You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist, how would you do that exactly? It is up to you to prove that there has been a substantial amount of content added.

Like this:

In the first 2 years of WoW Blizzard released:

8 new dungeons
5 new raids
10 new zones
1 new race
500+ quests
6 PvP maps
2 PvP modes
10 new levels
20+ new skills
50+ new talents
LFg system
Cross server system (first of its kind ever)
4 Festivals

WoW is considered the golden standard of MMO’s, your job would be to show that GW2 does indeed release a similar amount of content. (Hint: it doesn’t).

https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/burden-of-proof

Ahh yes the old use a logical fallacy to end the argument when you lose….

Here I’ll start for you:

Number of zones added: 3*
New zones are 1/3 the size or smaller than original game zones
Number of new races: 0
Number of new classes: 0
Number of new legendary’s: 0
Number of new dungeons: 1

1 dungeon also removed
Number of new raids: 0
Number of new quests(DE’s): ~50
LFG Added
Fractals Added
New PvP modes: 1

Removed from rotation
New PvP maps: 3

One removed, one removed from rotation
Number of LS episodes: 29
*
*
*22 removed

Note: This was over 2.5 years as opposed to WoW’s Two years

Would you say that GW2 released a reasonable amount of content in those 2 years as compared to WoW?

Sorry but those items are not the definitive list of what counts as content. Those of us playing since release have experienced a wealth of content rather than the argued “almost zero”.

Wait.. hold up My friend. I’d like an explanation of what you define as “content”. I’ve been playing since release my friend, and I do not feel that there has been a wealth of content. Prove me wrong.

You know all of that which we did during season one? That was content. Content is more than just that list you posted. Whether permanent or temporary, content is still content. The Nightmare Tower, Scarlet’s Playhouse, Queen’s Pavillion, Assault on LA, and so on were all content. The story instances of season two were all content as well. The statement that there has been “almost zero” content is false.

With such a logic, everything your ancestors possessed was still a part of your wealth, therefore you must be extremely rich and you should pay a tax on the estate you’ve had since the birth of your lineage.

You simply cannot state that something that was removed is part of something that exist. If you remove the engine of your car, it doesn’t work, you cannot say “I use my car everyday” simply because you had an engine.

It’s really disappointing, seriously. I thought ANet was on the right track, with breathe-taking updates, some festival with/before updates, yet they take ANOTHER break.

“Oh my god, it’s an important door!” “Sure, but let’s play with snowballs and open presents with dirty socks in them!” “True, that’s more important!”

If they don’t tease/release something significant quite soon (aka before or right after Jan. 13), the game will dive… I’ve loved and played this game a lot, yet besides LS updates (even the really short ones we got lately), I’m getting bored. Ok, that’s not the question, but ANet is slowly lulling us to sleep.

Wintersday is a nice festival, yet it’s a really really bad move to release it right in the middle of a LS (they can’t even keep up with the pace they promised, again !)… Remember that things asked for a while “cannot be release because they don’t fit the LS” is complete dolyak’s manure.

I’m disappointed, once again. And sadly I’ve been disappointed more times than I’ve been amazed.

Necromancers already have more of a focus on spirits than the ever did in GW1 – given GW2’s philosophy, I could see ritualists being blended into necromancers more than I could see it being added as another profession.

I really like the idea of specializations in professions A necro would become a ritualist-like fighter, a guardian would use more paragon-and-monk-like skills… I could definitely see that happen, and it would be fun to be able to change specializations between combat

I appear to be missing something. Abaddon changed into Steve?

Some have speculated that the human Six Gods were, in fact, the Elder Dragons. After all, Arah was build on top of Zhaitan.

Btw, doesn’t Malchor’s Dwayna look like either a largos or a dragon-like creature?

Would be kinda twisted to see the Six being actually manifestations of dragons… You know, they would assure the use of magic so it wouldn’t be lost, and therefore make sure there will still be food for their sleeping selves.

My theory (which will be invalidated in a few minutes I assume ^^) about Scarlet and Mordremoth… Maybe Mordy wasn’t supposed to awaken since Abaddon isn’t there anymore ( if Abaddon were linked to jungle and plants ), and Kormir (even if she’s a spotlight stealer) didn’t want an ED to roam Tyria and destroy everything. Maybe Scarlet forced Mordy’s natural awakening with the leylines?

It would be really twisted if the devs thought so, yet kinda interesting to see

I’m not sure on how to deal with the idea… It would be quite illogical to update places from 1325 to look like what they are in 1327. Yet, it happens in-game (PS in LA happens in a post-Scarlet LA…), so I assume that a slow evolution of the landscape, even if it spoils LS, is acceptable.

3 days is the average waiting time, so don’t worry However, if they don’t answer after 3 or 4 days, send another ticket

Konig you are right, yet in GW1 I have never seen Abaddon in Prophecies or Cantha, so it’s easier to assume it’s more related to NF. I thought of Elona when I saw the screenshot, and that_shaman’s data-mining shows a dervish-like armor (even if some light armors look like dervish clothing), the coincidence is a big huge.

Yet I assume that Abaddon’s statue, which seems untouched, means 2 things:
- it’s situated somewhere unknown (worshippers don’t know he’s dead)
- some people still worship him in remote places (he might be alive?)

One or another means new places, and hopefully a step forward to a new continent. But indeed I highly doubt we will see a new continent with only 4 updates ^^

An idea to make a new weapons

Not to be a console game fanboy or so, if people have problems finding new types of weapons, they could all have a look at the Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors series: they use soooo many different types of weapons (some of which can be considered as skins).

However, before new weapons I wouldn’t mind having more weapon options per class, either by new swappable skills on weapon sets we already have, or new combinations for each class (rifle guardian, mace engineer, etc.). Yet, I’d gladly welcome any new non-GS content

I do hope you are right, Royale. I’m craving for Elona, I really love this place! I do hope they’ll finally fulfill our wish to go back our beloved places. Also, as they will add something regarding Abaddon (and, I assume, Palawa Joko), I’m sure we will be back on the lore tracks!

I’m trying not to be too thrilled but… I am

There have been pretty much non-stop posts in this thread all day and yet the last “feedback” we got was 19 hours ago. Where are the devs?

Oversleeping maybe? They live in Seattle, GMT-8.

The lack of dervishes, ritualists, swappable skills for weapons, and free legendaries for all, is confusing to me. Pwease nerf gaem.

Whoa, this is bad. But, I think I’ve figured some of it out. In a word: China. In another word: NCSoft. At least it fits all the clues.

Think about how as one player put it “… Game has changed direction in the last 6 months…” Specifically:

o NPE – Who are these “New Players?” NA/EU is pretty well tapped. China is new.
o Common Code Tree – Why? To piggyback on the China devs work. Confirmed.
o Feature Patch – Leftovers from China rollout. Confirmed.
o Gem Store UI – " Make it easier to understand." For China.
o The Delay – Anet was freaked out by the China drop as well.
o Cmrd Tags – “Horrible version of the CDI!” China devs didn’t read it.
o Projected Profit – An after thought poorly integrated. China does not want it.
o Female Idle Animations – Breaks a Rule under China game codes.
o Repeated Content – Not to China.
o No Communication – Anet is in the dark too.

At least it makes a lot more sense. Anet isn’t that stoopid to make so many errors in design as have been rolled out the discussed timeframe. And if you think about it, it’s a pretty savvy business plan: NCSoft eats X% of NA/EU rage quitters but we were pretty tapped out anyway. They gain Y% of new China players they can re-sell old content to and get access to cheap China Devs who never see our forums. Result: Z% Won increased profit. The main purpose of a business is to return value to it’s shareholders. Bingo!

Then after NCSoft realizes they will lose more than X% of the NA/EU players they green light a fix by Anet. Once again there is Joy in Whoville.

I’m not sure of how I feel about it all. When the China roll out was announced I was kinda excited to think we’d all be in the same World game. Looks like we are and that comes with a cost.

I know everybody is pretty upset right now but again we’ll get a little tweak to make things right. I’d expect more of this in the future. Looking forward this means more resources resulting in a healthier game. Meanwhile, Anet mostly in the form of Gaile are left to scramble dealing with a fire that could have been avoided.

The deal is if we knew about it we might say “Yea.” We have had a lot of good things happen lately. Welcome to 21st century gaming… Smile and be as Happy as You Can.

Of course their metrics are based on the Chinese market, and guess what: they played the game because they had no other option, and if there happen to be more players in China than in NA/EU, it’s normal we get screwed.

Everything buggy we’ve had so far is a copy of the Chinese game, the “metrics”… That’s how I understand it, due to the lack of transparency.

So, as many said, subscription fee coming in Nov., and by 2015 you’ll only have access to the warrior class, and each class should be unlocked for 401 gems each.

One of the most tragic side of this story is that it doesn’t bode well for the future of the game: while we are promised new interesting things for LS2, it seems like everything will (again) revolve around gemstore and nobody in ANet seems to have the slightest idea of what to do to make the game supplants every other game around.

No communication + hindering bad decisions + excess of self-confidence = worst game ever.

Not that GW2 is a bad game, or at least it wasn’t a bad game, but slowly it is turning into a joke. What will the next step be, 383 gems (because you can’t change the remaining 17) to unlock Wintersday, then a monthly subscription fee? It has been hours since I read that terrible change you made, and I’m still sad and angry at you all. You really don’t think further than your wallet, you really don’t think about players, you summon so called metrics that I’m sure don’t even exist and you shove down our throats changes that make everyone’s gaming experience far worse.

Do as you please with your game and your soooo precious new players, but as long as I am being treated as a ret¨ard and a cash cow, I’m not even logging in this pastiche of what Guild Wars is supposed to be the ancestor.

If-U-see-kay the GW2 you forced us to play.

The real question is:

Why spend time, efforts, and resources, on something that has been working perfectly for two years for millions of players, to make it a cash-grab less intuitive robbery for people that don’t even have funds to use it the way you put it?

For once, have some guts and agree this change was bad. But I’m sure our rants/rage/“feedback” will end up in a bin. Or you’ll find a pale solution (aka band-aid on a peg leg), or pretend to be working on it for months/years/until we forget.

Everyday I bought some gems to finally get an outfit, slow and steady. Everyday I played waiting for LS2 to resume. Today, I don’t feel like playing anymore, because my wallet seems more interesting to you than my interest and pleasure in the game.

You were supposed to be making a game for players (that’s what you say usually, don’t you? “We care for our playerbase”). But your updates, lack of communication, uninterest in players’ desires, content removal, and lack of interest in your own game except for profit are evidence enough to prove you actually don’t care about our passion for the game.
