Wow, I didn’t know it could be that long. I only switched server twice, only in European servers, and it barely took more than 5 minutes. However, this could be due to the NA-to-EU process. Be patient, I’m just it’ll be done soon™

Two Problems I Have on the Mastery System

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: VergilDeZaniah.3295

VergilDeZaniah.3295

If I get problem #1 right, you’d want a group of developers to work for free on some kind of sequel everyone should have?

So, if you bought the 1st Harry Potter book, according to you, you should get #2-7 for free because it’s continuing the story you found in the 1st book even though JK Rowling worked on the sequels and improved many things?

I hope you won’t mind being paid just one day, because for the rest of your job you’re basically continuing what you’ve been doing on day 1.

Also, you don’t have problems with the mastery system, you assume you would have some.

I don’t mind it being released during Q3, yet, we’ve been announced lack of substantial updates between now and HoT release. That would be a bad move in my opinion. After all, the Pact fleet was just defeated… Just… Right now but 6 months ago anyway. That breaks any immersion attempt…

I really do hope that they have already been testing the game (after all, the playable demo is already available to them), and the last round they’ll need is players to test the game. My opinion (and somehow wish) is that the playable demo will be tested in March and a beta will follow from mid-March to end of April, for the 10 years of the franchise, and the game might be released soon after…

Might I add that GW1 was released on April 28th 2005, and that April 28th 2015 is… Tuesday, patch day! (Half-Life 3 conf… Wait nevermind)

If they wait until August, I certainly hope they’ll give a bone to chew on, because waiting 6 months for the rest of a story that already took plenty of time is a bit “dangerous”…

Edit : Different stances/idle animation could be a nice thing to change. I know a few persons annoyed by the whole “looking at butterflies with glee” idle animation of females Sylvari. It could be cool if we were able to choose between neutral, fierce, or “cute” idle animations.

Great idea! I would also wish for new casting animations (how I loved my GW1 Necro’s casting animations!)

What's your biggest worry...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

VergilDeZaniah.3295

I’m worried about the pace, before and after the release.

They announced it so early I’m worried they will wait too long before releasing it, especially since there won’t be substantial updates as far as we know.

I’m also worried that, after release, we will have to way years before having, for example, new specializations etc.

But as some said, worrying won’t change anything, so I’m just trying to be thrilled as much as possible waiting for the release (please may it be soon!)

Time Plan

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: VergilDeZaniah.3295

VergilDeZaniah.3295

ANet told us about their plans: no new LS before the expansion, playable demo at PAX and Rezzed in March, followed by a beta.

“There will be updates in between”, and we can expect the Ram-patch around Feb. 24 (logically speaking, since it’ll be the end of Point of No Return).

From deduction, we can say that we’re probably getting at least:
-Today-Feb. 24: HoT info
-Feb. 24: Ram-patch
-Feb. 24-Mar. 6: HoT info
-Mar. 6-14: first images of the expansion played by players
-Mar. 14-?: Beta
- ? : Release

Let’s not be greedy and wait. If they give too much in one go, people will QQ the content is buggy. Let’s wait… Hopefully not too much.

Human: Longer hairstyles for guys! And some kind of “accessories” spot (make-up for ladies, scars for males and females, etc.)

Norn: More tattoos options, and accessories too (well, for every race that would be good)

(I barely play Sylvari, Asura, and Charrs…)

More colors for each race, more horns, ears, hairstyles, beards, foliages… More of EVERYTHING! Specializations mean we can personalize our classes, so let’s personalize our characters more

I don’t know how I could define myself…

I don’t act as if I were my character, but I do as if they had their own personality. When talking to my friends (on Skype or TeamSpeak), I sometimes say “X is ready to kick their bottoms!” or “Y doesn’t like melee fighting”.

My characters exist and have a story in Tyria, but nothing to do with real life: my necromancer isn’t the dark side of me, my mesmer isn’t the deceiving part of me… My necro is a descendant from my GW1 necro and they have a family business to run (protection of the land and so forth).

Do I talk through my character as my character? No. Do I act as if my characters were a bit more than just a bunch of pixels? Yes. Otherwise, I wouldn’t spend time creating them with a look that suits them and their personalities.

I could have a lvl80 Revenant, but my guess is that I would rather begin to lvl a bit to get used to the gameplay, and once I’m bored, right to lvl80!

I used to enjoy levelling, but then I took a trait revamp to one knee and an NPE to the other. Instant 80 for me.

Remember the trait system (and maybe NPE) will be reworked by the time the expansion hits. That’s why I’ll give it a try ^^

PS. I just hope elementalists only get the main-hand warhorn.

Actually it was said that we would get only one weapon per profession. However, it wasn’t said that we wouldn’t have new skills on existing weapons. For example, a MH sword mesmer wouldn’t have the same skills as a MH sword chronomancer.

Also, elementalists are assumed to wield a MH sword.

But who says, let’s say, a Mesmer’s MH sword won’t have new skills when they are specialized as “Chronomancer”?

it’s either that or they might get MH pistol “They already use pistols, and anet said only 1 NEW weapon”
if it’s just a shield I’ll be very disappointed since they only have sword for melee.
Scepter isn’t melee and it’s direct damage is almost 0, they really need a direct damage MH weapon other than sword

They said one NEW weapon, they didn’t say “Chronomancers” won’t use a two-handed sword. Nothing proves that the scepter won’t be more powerful in that specialization.

Remember they could have not added specializations, but instead just a bunch of useless utility skills. One specialization is just the beginning, so don’t complain before you see the full potential of the mesmer, be grateful they gave us the opportunity to personalize our characters deeper.

I do love the idea..
But the scepter for mesmer is known to be a condi weapon, I really hope that if you sprcialize you can change that.. that’d be so nice and I really think it might happen since the scepter on mesmer is one of the weapons they always try to change\fix in order for players to use it more..

scepter with guards and eles have high dps, maybe mesmers can join that list too!!

I have faith in them for that one, let’s all wait and see and not be disappointed before it’s released in the end, we’ll all swoon!

Even if they introduce “only” 10 new skills for a complete bar, that’s more that enough to begin with, because they said there would be more. A new weapon is already a good change in gameplay, as well as the new mechanics. Wait and see, but please give the devs a break. You’re acting as if you knew every nook and cranny of HoT. basicaly you are trying to compare a end-user grade product(RPGMAKER) with a full blown engine dedicate to the game, what’s the point? so where is this better game you can make then? how would you design the server side code?

What I mean is that expectations from their public are not to see revamped and bugged systems that are barely tested and be declared the full potential of the company.

We have been advertised expansion-like content so we expect to see such content in HoT, as we didn’t get much xpac-like content during LS.

Many things were ok with their game but they decided to tamper with them. It’s not about their capability to do something (GW2 at release was really good), it’s how they organized themselves and chose to develop/destroy point A or point B. We had great expectations since GW1, and now we’ve had more disappointment than “OMG it’s so awesome” moments.

Many of us want more skills, weapons, races and classes. These are the expectations we have been told about months and months ago, yet we only got 9 new (useless and expensive) healing skills. So these are our expectations: what we have seen for the past two years is not the full potential of ANet. If what we had was the best they could do… I can make a better game on RPG Maker…

- But what if the game was like RPG Maker and the stuff you can make is limited by what the engine is capable of doing? You’ll see them making tokens, skins and new maps because fixing something fundamental like bad UI and collision problems is beyond their abilities.

Then I would simply say their game don’t deserve the “GW” name. There are things that are unavoidable (or really difficult to fix), but many of their releases aren’t even tested (and if they are… Well the testers don’t do much).

They shouldn’t focus on being too different, they should focus on being good. And that’s were they somehow got confused and “failed” to delivered quantity and quality.

It’s not a matter of limitation, it’s a matter of organization.

- What expectations? It’s the same guys doing the same thing you’ve seen them do for 2 years already.

Supposedly, yet “a part of the team” was working on a “background projet”. Myth? Reality? Poor excuses? I don’t know, it’s the first time in months I’m hyped about something new in GW2.

Stuff will never live up to the community’s expectations seeing as the community’s expectations are not really plausible.

You’re absolutely right, but I meant there will be far less damage if HoT brings skills, maps, maybe races and classes, and a story than if HoT is a packed LS2 or a bunch of gemstore items thrown as a decoy.

I don’t mind if we don’t go to Cantha or Elona, as long as we have content and a story that stay the course.

Also, people believe it’s a boxed or packed version of LS2… So if we fight Mordremoth in today’s update, they might be right, if not… Why would ANet create a Mordremoth logo (cf. “jungle dragon” art) if we don’t even get to see him/it? Mordy has that snake-like body since the art.

If anything, the announcement the way it’s phrased, is specifically telling us there will be no expansion. Anyone who expects one with that wording is just living in hope.

The wording talks about new ways to expand the Guild Wars 2 universe. Expansions aren’t new ways to expand it. That’s old school. To me this implies new things that aren’t being done in the industry at least commonly. Ergo, it won’t be an expansion announcement.

As a french I can assure you that the french voice acting is vastly inferior to the english one : weird expressions noone would ever use, inaccurate translations… Changing the audio to english really improved my immersion.

Anyway, when changing the audio the game first cuts every voice in the game if you have already downloaded the voice files (I don’t know if it transitions smoothly if you already have them). Then it downloads the required voice files at the next client launch. As far as I know it keeps the previous voice files so going back and forth is easier.

I hope you enjoy learning french, cheers !

Seconded, as a French native speaker and translator, I can say that translation in this game is quite poor… Yet it can be useful as a step to get yourself used to French speakers ^^

True that we’ve been going to the “wrong side”, yet remember that Maguuma Jungle also includes Sparkfly Fen, Mount Maelstrom, and Labyrinthine Cliffs. Also, I’ve been pointing for a long time that, in Mount Maelstrom, in the lower right side of the map (Judgement Rock), there is a portal going straight to Crystal Desert (same goes for the Desert Gate in Fields of Ruin, Blackwing Excavation).

This “expansion” of land has been called since the release of the game, and the last LS2 episodes only reinforce the idea that in a close future we will be walking in the sand of the Crystal Desert. From there, it’s quick and easy to assume that Palawa Joko might be the main focus of our next arc.

I really do hope the next episode will resolve the (way too numerous) cliffhangers from LS2 (if not, we can say their storyteller is quite bad).

I’m quite reserved regarding what’s coming next, especially at and after PAX (a 2-month break?), but a tiny part of me is hyped because if they didn’t put their full potential into work these two years, logically they can only have been working on something so massive we will all faint (or just something massive that will make us say “GG ANet”). I really do hope we finally see something expansion-like (even if it’s as they first planned it to be: tiny updates that would bring content on a regular basis), because we’re stuck in 1325AE (and a bit in 1327), and I wouldn’t mind going on a trip somewhere else than good ol’ Tyria.

I just hope that, unlike Zhaitan, it won’t take 100+ years to kill Mordremoth… And every other dragon each century…
