Yes, as we start running out of easy changes we can start addressing those that are more difficult. I will say the notes we posted are balance changes and there are bug fixes coming both Nov 26th and Dec 10th that hopefully address some other concerns. We will not get to every bug but we are focusing on ones we think have the most detrimental impact to gameplay.

Please address turrets in those changes. In my opinion, the main problems in turrets are (in this order):

  • Huge hitting box
  • Health
  • Cooldown
  • You lose the turret toolbelt while the turret is up

I also feel a solution for the last problem is to have turrets be a bit more automatic. Have them overcharge regularly and automatically when necessary. For example, the thumper turret will overcharge every time there is a valid target around and it is off cooldown. The healing turret will automatically heal as long as there is some ally in need of health and it’s off cooldown. Then change the Turret Utility to be the skill that destroys the turret and keep the toolbelt skill up. This is a much needed change for the Thumper turret for example in which you lose your stun break when the turret is down.

Players want Account bound ranks. Anet has some reasons not to do so. Why not come with alternate solutions then? OP at least tried to give an alternate solution. I did not like it too much, so I’ll post another one.

Half of the wxp earned by any character is also given to alts.

So if I gain 100wxp, the character I’m playing gains those 100wxp and all my alts gain 50wxp. This way, when you level an alt, you will also be helping your main and other alts. Also, when leveling your main, your alts will not be so far behind. Players can feel like they are progressing their account while making all characters progress a bit. For Anet, characters will still be differentiated by the ones who are played the most.

interesting, What about all those free chests that alts would get?

Keep the same policy as now. They would be bonus chests. Double chests when progressing until all bonus chests are gone. Or not give extra chests to your ALTs. People are not asking for extra chests, just distributed WXP.

HoD player here. Looked at mos.millenium score and envied your fight. Came to post about it.

meh its just gom and DH focusing us. something I wish servers would do more often but it sucks to be on the receiving end.

Not sure it really matters if one server is being double teamed for it to happen. But when the score is that close, it’s usually a very fun week to play. You know everything you do matters so much that you keep going back in. Too much fun and I envy that I’m not in that match-up.

I agree with the majority of what the OP said…

But I would like to add, why no DEFENSIVE achievements like:

Defend sm 3 times
Defend keeps 10 times
Defend 20 towers
Build 10 AC’s in a sm/keep/tower
Pay for a ugrade at any fortification/supply camp

There are no defensive achievements at all, its no wonder most players assume defense is worthless…

I found a lack of defensive achievements to be the worst. I noticed if I kept roaming or defending, I would not get my achievements done. Now I have to join a zerg to finish my achievements and that’s not how I usually like to WvW.

I ran FC borderland for quite a while and was impressed with their numbers. Congratulations FC. Hope you guys keep growing.

Best part for me was when Kaineng (might have been FC, don’t remember) took Bay in FC border from us and I was just soloing around. I’m still alive and I see that a group of HoD is hiding behind the keep in the water from the mini-map. Many people spot me and try to kill me. Suddenly I notice I’m running in the hiding group’s direction and turn around. I gave a full lap around Bay and noticed the small group ([GT] guild) is ramming south inner down. So I turn around and try to keep diverting people in the other direction. But the [GT] group was spotted and I went there to help defend our small attempt. We defend well and destroy the gate. But being spotted destroyed our plans and we were wiped in about 0.56 seconds after a big blob came (must have been FC then).

Funny thing is that with a bunch of PvE’s filling up WvW, I suddenly feel more powerful as I can fight in disadvantage against people that are still inexperienced.

For a proper Leeroy build, you need to run shouts (to properly shout LEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOYYYYY JEEEEEEENKIIIIINGS) and you must trait for “Warrior’s Sprint” to run faster. You must also complete the Out of Cluck achievement to at least get your chicken.

Sugestion: Alternate RND and ranked matches

Anet, did you ever think about alternating between matching servers randomly one week and by their rating on the next?

Matching randomly speeds up the rating changes that occur when big guilds transfer. It also provides better ratings for servers. But sometimes it sucks when a server is badly matched for a few weeks in a row. But if the rankings are more realistic now, then using the old ranking should give nice matchups. Then go back to random matchups on the next week for variation and for the necessary variation to properly update rankings.

DR, please take all of KN and HoD stuff so that NSP will be sent to silver league. Give some incentive for Devon (playing in NSP) to make wvw better.

If Devon is playing in NSP, then I would actually like to see them in the bottom of the silver league.

Unbalanced fights suck and something should be done to balance things out.

I’d just like to congratulate ET on their numbers. I felt bad for ET and FC when you guys where stuck with SF for so long on that horrible matchup. Now when I see that both your servers are getting better, it cheers me up a bit. HoD has been through the same by being crushed weekly against overwhelming odds. We’ve been able to pull it through slowly and it’s a great server to fight in now. Let’s have some great battles out there.

I built one against a thief we were trying to gank and he re-stealthed back much less than 30s after he was caught in it. All players there were: WTF?!?! Anyone know if it’s even working properly?

And it’s too expensive on badges and lacks heavily on mobility. We need other counters to stealth.

Well you dont even need HGH to greatly stack Might. I recently run Dire gear with this build:

You can keep about 15-20 stack of might, witch is 2100+ condi damage, 70% condi duration, 36% crit chance (with precision stacks), while you keep all utilities what you loose with HGH builds for sloting elixirs.

How do you stack might that high? Is it just on blasting the fire field? Do you have enough blasts to keep it up?

Yea the Confusion Duration Part hasn’t worked on the Rune since the beginning.

Indeed it is. It made confusion come back into viability if you spec for it with these runes and build accordingly.

But on the runes not working that you mention has not worked since the start. Has this been posted before? I’m waiting for some acknowledgement from Anet at lest to be sure they know. If they have answered a similar post before, then it would be fine.

Did you actually test the confusion duration from pry bar, or relied solely on the tooltip ?

Afaik effects like “+ x% bleeding duration”, “+ x% condition duration from scepter” and such do not affect the tooltips, but work as intended.

BTW, I have noticed the tooltip problem a while ago. I actually didn’t think much of it as I thought it was just a tooltip problem. Only yesterday I decide to properly check for the actual duration.

For Anet: if you read this post, please either acknowledge the bug or this post so I know this bug is heard to see if it can be fixed.

I have seen the same problem, on b n duration skills.
For example, warrior with warhorn.
If you have a build with 20 points on Tactics with IX trait, the skill number 4 said:
Charge 12 seconds recharge
Swiftness duration 12 seconds

So I expect that i can run always with swiftness on, but I see that there is one second countdown from the first time i have used the skill and the second one.

This is only an example, but i have seen that all boon durations aren’t the ones displayed on the tooltips.

In that case, it could be the casting time of the skill being close to 1s. Did you check the casting time?

Yes, I tested for this. With my food buff up, I would hit mobs and try to see the duration of the applied confusion. As soon as the confusion pops up, all I see is the duration of 8s. This is consistent with the actual duration being of 8.5s. If the duration was indeed 10s, I should be able to see a 9 at some point. Tried this a lot before coming to post this bug.

Perplexity Runes do not apply the extra confusion duration.

How to test for the bug:

I am an engineer and have:

This should give me a total of 100% Confusion duration.

Now, since the Pry Bar gives 5s Confusion, it should be boosted up to 10s. When I consume food, I only get 8.5s of confusion which corresponds to 70% increased duration. I tried removing the Giver’s pistols and they do affect the duration. The trait and the food also does. So it only leaves the Perplexity runes to blame. Furthemore, I also tried to see if it was not being reported in the skill, but was actually giving the 10s duration but it was not. Anything I hit I can only see the 8s duration.

Please fix this.

Have two copies of every turret skill. One copy behaves just like the current turret. The second copy overcharges as soon as it’s dropped automatically (further overcharges could be manual or automatic… Anet decides). This would help a lot when I’m lagging, specially with the healing turret.

Is the build the armor/trinks are guesstimates based on what i’ve rolled before(backpack ascent karka). The runes I’ll take a guess are altruismx6(I used 4) waterx2. Sigils energy/corruption with a 3rd of bursting or something.

After rewatching I believe I was wrong. His trink looks more like full apothecary and the sigil of corruption is sigil of life and swapped out to a third with agony or something.

He doesn’t have reduced cooldown on any of his skills except for shield and he creates bombs when he dodges.

I think he is running 10/0/30/20/10. Just take your second build, remove 10 from tools and add 10 to explosives for forceful explosives.

If you want to know what players liked about the updates, then I’ll tell you my opinion about them. The update I liked the most was the Bazaar one. I’m also liking this current update (Queen Jubilee) quite a lot. Actually, I even created a post on reddit about how much I liked the Bazaar update.

Reasons for me to like the Bazaar update?

First, I like jumping puzzles and I liked trying to find all those crystals quite a lot. Note that I did not look at guides while trying to find them, which made the process quite fun. I do quite a lot of WvW nowadays and did not completely explore the world. The second part I liked so much about the update was finding the large kites. I feel they were well positioned in jumping puzzles and mini-dungeons I had not visited before. The achoevements gave me an incentive to do them and once there, I noticed the great content I had missed that was already in the game. The fact that these jumping puzzles and mini-dungeons were populated was also quite interesting to explore. Some were tough to figure out and watching others do it made it fun to figure out.

That brings me to Queen Jubilee’s update. I’m liking the gauntlet quite a lot and the fact that I can see other people’s strategy torwards winning those battles gives me ideas on how to figure them out also. I really like challenging content that I do not need to read a tutorial to figure out while not being simple and straightforward. I have only done two baloon events and have not done the torch runs yet, but just this gauntlet could keep me interested for the rest of the month.

Thanks for the feedback everyone and please keep it coming. Personally, I find that one of the hardest parts of being a desginer on GW2 Live is coming to terms with the fact that not every update will please every player. We do our best to deliver appealing content with enough variety to keep as many people as satisfied as possible. And If there’s one thing we can do consistently, it’s improving the experience of said content each time. I think we made some great strides with the Jubilee. I think we have a lot of room to keep growing. But our team isn’t done yet. We’ve got some exciting things coming later this month. Things you’ve never seen in this game before.

But in the mean time, please keep telling us what you’re thinking. We are listening. Not only to what you’re saying but also to what you’re not. The very first living world team actually did the thing some of you have called for. Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare. Granted, Halloween may have stolen the show. But those events are still in the game today. I’ve seen very little reaction to them, however, positive or negative. Despite this, there are many events I would still like to add. Many zones and bosses I would love to revisit. As we get better at the living world, I strongly suspect we’ll have room to get around to them as well. Assuming that’s what our players really want. You are all the second half of the collaborative process, so thanks for helping!

Since #3 is so useless due to the long cooldown, how about this change? At least we have a cheerful death.

Nice list and I’ll add one to it. I posted this quite a few times before but Anet has never seen it.

If the healing turret is destroyed, then whatever timer there was left on the Cleansing Burst overcharge is lost. This means that if you deploy your turret and then overcharge and the turret is destroyed when the overcharge has 1 second left, then you have to wait 20 more seconds to use it again. This is the longest cooldown for a healing skill in the game (35 seconds).

Although it behaves like a turret should, I don’t think a heal should work like this. Heals should be reliable.

One up and one down solves some problems but creates a bunch more. Including that it invalidates ratings entirely. It no longer takes into account quality of victory but simply uses the fact of victory to move a server out of the matchup they were previously in. The system we are using now creates varied matchups, which will allow us to get more accurate ratings. As those become more accurate we can dial down on the amount of variance we are introducing to have matchups that are varied, but less prone to large rating gaps between the servers. But, again, this is entirely based on server rating, which is the thing we have actually been calculating this entire time. Until that number is a more accurate reflection of server quality, we are going to keep mixing the matchups up.

Wouldn’t a reasonable solution be to marry the idea of Glicko ratings (to establish and maintain relatively balanced match-ups) with an earned one-up / one-down system (to allow movement between tiers and widen the pool of matches)?

Theoretical example:

Rating system as it was before (i.e. before the random rolls) but before the ranks are sorted at reset the system tracks two more variables: 1) cumulative number of #1-in-tier placements, and 2) % of points captured in the last match.

Servers then get rank sorted based on ratings as they used to on reset, but the system does two more logic checks before setting the matches:

1) If a server has placed 1st in their tier for 3 weeks running, they are automatically promoted one rank (i.e. to the bottom of the next highest tier). This results in movement between tiers being easier than in the old system, and because the server’s rating stays the same, as long as they are able to hang in with the next higher tier, they have the opportunity to stay there. If a server has been able to win three straight it would seem to be fair to allow them a shot at competing at a higher tier.

2) If a server captures more than (let’s say) 50% of the available points in a match, that server is automatically promoted one rank. This prevents blow-out matches from lasting longer than a week and gives a strong server the chance to get into a match up closer to their true coverage.

(I see no reason these two couldn’t combine – so if a server wins three weeks straight and then blows out their final match, they could immediately be jumped to Blue realm on the next highest tier)

I think the key here would be to provide the possibility for variable match-ups, but while removing the “we got random roll f’d this week” that tends to bring down morale. In this model described above, if a server gets trounced it would be because they were good enough to earn a spot in that tier rather than getting trounced because a dice roll went bad – I think that concept would sit better with more players than the current one will.

I would like to echo a couple of the posters above in saying that this is an urgent problem. If the matchups continue like this for a few more rounds, there is a really strong possibility of permanent damage to WvW. It’s happened in other games, GW2 isn’t special in this regard. IMO, quick, decisive action is required here to stem the tide. Good luck Devon.

Would it be possible to avoid big jumps in rankings? Consider the rankings of servers without the random aspect. Then consider the rankings of servers after the random roll has occurred. If a server jumps in ranking more than 3 spots, then bring him back to a 3 spot jump. This would solve the issue of a server jumping 7 ranks, like Borlis Pass just did.

Good luck everyone. Looking forward to a new matchup (coming from 13 weeks with AR and Ego bay in a row).

I don’t think you’ll have a lot of fun the way you were matched now. You’ll probably like it that you can win again, then you’ll dislike it to see the difference in numbers and the lack of effort to win. Last week we got a server 2 tiers above ours. This week we get a server 3 tiers above ours. Sigh…

Very nice idea for a build. I would also note that backpack regenerator does not benefit from healing power. Changing either the bomb kit or elixir C for the elixir gun would use your healing power better. I currently run apothecary gear with elixir gun.

Also note that the elixir gun super elixir also removes conditions if you want to change from elixir C.

Another option for a trait is to change Incendiary Power to Forceful Explosives to increase the range of your bombs.

they don’t want to change a skill between different areas of the game unless they really have to, and this isn’t a skill issue, it’s a responsiveness issue, If double tapping heal always overcharged, it’d be fine, but you really have to spam it in my experience :/

Yeah, it is a responsiveness issue. Maybe turret skills could come in pairs. When you buy the skill, you gain two options to choose from. One version of the skill overcharges on drop. The other version of the skill is the current version. I guess this way both options would be available. This would also solve the responsiveness issue of the healing turret.

My second proposal is to do something different to help with skill lag. Have an option on turret skills to overcharge them as soon as they are dropped. That way, it would reduce the burden when we have skill lag.

It does happen in big battles. But it’s also happening to me right now for some connection issues I’m having with my internet provider.

EDIT: not just the burden on skill lag, but the burden in general since there is no need for 3 button presses when only 2 should be needed

Turrets still have problems to become viable. But this problem with the healing turret is worst than with the other turrets. Average healing with a 35s cooldown is not viable by any measure in this game. And even if they fix the cooldown, it would still need a survivability boost to be viable. Their hitting box is still bugged as previously reported and still not fixed. They are also destroyed way too easily.

You’re right to point out that leaving the Healing Turret out is not viable at the moment, but it is pretty exceptional right now when you detonate it while the Water field is active.

It’s probably the best healing skill we have right now. Not only does it heal us, but it heals our allies too and removes 2 conditions on everyone within the vicinity. At the very least overcharge and pick it back up.

It may not be the end-goal of how the Healing Turret should perform, but it’s one of the best healing skills across all classes right now if you pick it up/detonate it.

Yes, it is very good and I really want to like it. But recently I’ve been getting skill lag and would get some benefit for it being fixed. Having to press 3 buttons while lagging takes much longer than normal. I would be happy with a drop, overcharge and leave it for the regen which is also good. I even posted another solution here to see if it can become a bit better when I’m lagging. I can’t believe I’m the only one with this issue.

Yes, I’m referring to pvp. It makes no sense to leave it out, ever. So everyone drops, overcharges and either picks up or destroys. Could it be an option then? If they don’t fix the cooldown, as previously reported here, then at least make it easier to use. Is there any need for the extra burden? It really sucks when I’m skill lagging.

Could it overcharge as soon as it’s dropped automatically? Whenever I’m lagging, overcharging the turret becomes a burden as it takes a while after it’s dropped. I mean, does anyone drop it and not overcharge it right away? Why not take this burden away and just overcharge automatically when it’s dropped?
