Increasing the level cap implies stat inflation. Which means that there will be tiers beyond ascended. Which also means GW2 isn’t any different than the others.
Not necessarily.
An increased level must not mean new tiers. It is fully possible to stay with the same tiers but with higher levels.
Essentially keeping the same gear and increasing base stats, which is stupid because the game is balanced around level 80 base stats.
Better than the original GW2 live-action trailer, right?
Many of the nerfs being cried about in the thief forums are hyperboles based on the fact that they’re changing and fixing exploitations of broken traits before they can buff the thief, period. From history, you can see that every major nerf to the thief has been followed up by both minor and major buffs which allow for more build diversity and variety. Gotta break ’em down before you can build ’em up, I always say.
This is an extremely old quote, OP. I highly doubt that they would increase the level cap after the ascended debacle.
You guys might want to exchange Ricochet for Bountiful Theft when roaming, so that you’re able to rip any stability a warrior might pop. Just an observation out of testing.
S/P thief is generally best in these situations with blind spam (except dredge, for obvious reasons).
This would be fantastic if they cost ~10 skill points each, making it a reliable alternative to leveling alts.
Well i would primary use p/d and secondary sb. Or p/p. Perplexity u Know. But d/d? Its obv a Power Set. Also unload could be changed to a condtition skill. Both sets would be so much more viable. Nobody needs a Mixed Set in a game where Mixed builts Do Not work as good as straight forward builts
You couldn’t be more wrong. Mixed builds have more blurred lines as to what can and cannot counter them, whereas min/max’d builds have very clear hard counters. Perhaps if you were to have played anything but a build someone else made for you, you would understand this.
Guys, stop asking for them to remove bleeds to improve your burst set. Condition sets use DB as their only source of bleeds with pistol as a secondary set. Hopefully the devs aren’t as close-minded as you.
Hey guys, back again with another build.
Recently I looked into improving the viability of S/P to counter the outburst of conditionmancers and hambow warriors, and I’ve come up with this. In WvW testing, the build has proven extremely effective in locking down and killing both cheese builds, as well as being generally effective against everything else. It’s a well-rounded build, but does require the ability to adapt to different situations and knowing enemy animations and how to counter them. Here it is: Defiance
Sorry to all non-human thieves, but it does use Reaper of Grenth to stack up to 64 seconds of chilled and poisoned on the enemy to cancel out healing and put stun breaks on an extremely long cooldown in order to take them down and mitigate the threat, rendering the enemy useless. Feel free to post an adaptation if you find a way to use this with another race.
I use it somewhat frequently on my d/d burst build as a quick dodge when my endurance is depleted to avoid things like Earthshaker and actually keep up with hambow warriors using blind on stealth and DB effectively to mitigate how many times they hit me. Removing it is the last thing you want to do.
Burnfall stop with the trolling and making non constructive threads just because you have not learn how to kill a thief with your Ranger.
You could better ask in this forums the mechanics of the class to help you with your gameplay . . .
Please man just stop . . .
How am i trolling, when i’m giving thief class assurance that they are in good hand?
I belong to a thief guild, 80%-90% of wvw commanders play thief class, i always embrace having a thief at my side, and in my party, and they all welcome me with open arms.
… yet still i’m a troll?
I wish we rangers had someone, somebody, or a team at Arena.net, to give us assurance, hope, for our future
When does giving assurance consider trolling to begin with?
Is it wrong to give good compliments?
too obvious
I think he means warrior and guardian. I see more necro commanders than I do thief commanders.
thieves need more condition removal, since our only [almost] viable CC build has little access to stealth, where most conditions are cleansed. Signet of Agility just doesn’t do it when fighting a conditionmancer or class/build with equal conditions. After december 10th infiltrator’s strike will no longer be a spamable (and constly) source of condition removal, so there’s that too.
AFAIK, Sigil of Accuracy and Sigil of Force do not stack.
iirc, you cannot have two of the same type of sigil on one weapon set, and can’t have two on-swap/on-crit sigils in your build period, as they all share the same cooldowns.
I really, REALLY believe that Infiltrators Return needs to become a blast finisher for compensation on what they’ve done with it, also giving it synergy with Black Powder.
Could I run this to go around discovering the map? Would I get in trouble in the high level areas?
You can run it for anything. 30 Crit/ 30 SA/ 10 Anything is pretty flexible. You can switch up weapon sets and traits on the fly to have a spec appropriate for anything (with the possible exception of sPvP, which I don’t know much about).
I’ve been toying with this concept. If only I had a reliable way to quickly change traits, owning 2 daggers, 2 pistols a sword and a shortbow (all zojja ascended), with this gear you can literally retrait, swap a few utilities and use an entirely different weapon set and be completely viable with almost any of them (p/d of course being the only exception).
Impact is OP on sword/pistol thieves running Paralyzation on pistol. 2 second stuns with +15% damage = easy ~7k average pistol whips
Your season reward will be a “finisher” if you come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and 2 blues/greens. Some percentage (maybe 10%) will receive a rare, some lesser percentage (maybe 0.5%) will receive an exotic, some even smaller percentage (maybe 0.01%) will receive an ascended piece or ascended weapon chest, and there will be 1, exactly 1 precursor given out to the entire WvW population as a reward for completing these achieves. Good luck with the RNG on your rewards chest(s).
That is what I expect based on the games history thus far.
This is a very good assumption.
Holy Trinity, we are never (ever) getting back together.

Hey Guys,
I Guild Wars 2 dying?
There is barely anyone playing PVE from what i am observing… Bosses, major events and other interactive mechanisms are basically empty, played GW2 for 3-4 hrs today, have only seen less than 10ppl around PVE. Is it because i am in a low lvl area? or is GW2 dying??
PS im lvl 24 in lvl 1-30 areas.
It has never been the same since i left GW2 a few months ago… So little ppl playing? There isn’t much fun now T_T where are all of the players???
The financial trend indicate so.
1Q 2013 sales were $13.2M
2Q 2013 sales were $10.2M
3Q 2013 sales were $8.8MSo roughly a 20% decrease quarter over quarter.
Remember, this report is sales not EBIT.
Box sales. Look at cash shop sales :P
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/87560-new-ncsoft-earning-report-is-out/
Really all you need to know there.
Exactly and like they say in the latest actual quarterly report while boxes sales are down which is understandable considering all those who wanted to buy the game bought it, for the 5th consecutive quarter cash shop revenues are up.
that means 1 of two things
either more people are playing the game and spending money hence cash shop sales are higher now then ever before since launch
or less people are playing now but spending a ton more then they did since launch. In anycase their main revenue is the cash shop so technically the game is still growing.
Not only that but next year they’re launching in asia which is the world biggest mmo market so they’ll probably double those numbers which are already great as they are.
Dont see any dieing myself.
Thank you. People seem to have a really bad case of confirmation bias.
I play by the honorable rules on my thief, posters. Not all thieves are 12 year old trolls who are afraid to die. The only 1v1 I’ll ever turn down is one against an MM Necro, and they’re just flat cheesy and thieves have very little instant condition removal.
It should be a Gold, Silver and Bronze special shiny dye. This would rock.
I’d be okay with that if they were tradeable (dye collectors gotta have me all!)

A trinity doesn’t fix that though – a zerg is a zerg, it doesn’t matter if there are tanks and healers because there are just too many players for roles to be meaningful, so the lack of roles in that situation has absolutely no effect.
People never complained much about GW1 because it was a niche game – those of us who were playing it were playing because we liked the way it was. GW2 is a lot more commercial and as such it has drawn in the typical MMO crowd who all have assumptions of how the game should be based on what they are used to. That is what I take issue with, you’re trying to say that because the masses are used to a trinity the game should have one because it is inconceivable that people could actually be enjoying the lack of one… Which is ridiculous. You have to remember that the forum accounts for a rather small percentage of the player population. The majority of players are in game playing and not caring about the lack of a trinity. The numerous posts on the forums represent a vocal minority that looks meaningful in the context of the forums – which is already a minority of the player base.
If you participated in the ESO beta this weekend one thing to take note of is this exact sentiment. In the end, DPS zergs win in that game. And the trinity is in full swing in ESO.
if there is no cantha, how is my ranger going to have a phoenix pet that I can name kittenes? :’(
More importantly, if we don’t get Cantha and Elona, how are we supposed to get all the titles and get a RAINBOW Phoenix?
For fairness, would someone be willing to post a topic with the complete list of buffs since release?
Thanks!
Trinity = Forced routine
No Trinity = Skill-Based
Fixed.
Qft, thank you.

I’ll just leave these here:

Yep. I love how mesmers get stun breaks on their weapons but thieves are “overpowered” when we have it on one, because it’s spamable by design. Solution: up the initiative cost.
Don’t worry guys, we’ll just have to react to the stun, use a stun break, THEN use a .25 sec cast time shadow return, in less time than it takes for the warrior to use the next attack in their chain of cc.
Oh and we’ll have 0.33 more initiative regen per second. So everything will be fine.
Are you Sanduskel’s brother by chance?
I think that was just plain ol’ sarcasm
Oh, I see it now. Okay. False alarm.

I’m going to wait for thieves to get something like eles Diamond Skin to hard counter full condition builds. And I’ll laugh that day.
The fact is that lyssa runes+shadow step (2 stunbreaks+ teleport+condi cleanse, talk about way overbudget skill)blinding powdershadow refuge make any decent thief untouchable.
They simply cannot die if they don’t want to.
But unlike all high survival condi bunker builds, thieves have real spike and the best chasing power of all classes. No class can outrun a thief except maybe a greatsword warrior or double sword ranger.
If a backstab is critting my 2k toughness mesmer for 5-6k, then that backstab is hitting glass cannons easily for 8-9k. And that’s not OK for a skill you can do about every 6-7 seconds, while invisible.
It’s barely viable in tPvP, but tell me more about how thieves need more nerfs rather than more build variety and less pigeonholing into said backstab builds. They’re killing sword on December 10th, so get used to it.
It was my Xbox Live gamer tag, wish I could change it ;(
Trinity = Strategy
No Trinity = Skill-Based
I think there’s something wrong with the survey. I can only vote for “Improve Rewards” once.
Now we just need the commando and sandwichmancer, both brought by the Tengu who lead us to Cantha on their mounts with capes to their guild halls.
Needs a reflect on axe 5, then we’re stepping in the right direction.
No one is forcing you to stealth. Decent players know how to win without an over reliance on stealth.
Decent players know how to deal with thieves using stealth. Apparently you are not a decent player.
bordering on a personal attack, but I will let it slide. I am not having problems with stealth. However you are complaining about being forced to stealth. I simply point out that good players don’t feel forced to stealth. google a few builds, and you too can thrive without stealth reliance. Good luck.
We’re talking exactly about that. I had the same view as you, but with the vigor nerf and nerf to infiltrator’s return, we’re running out of options for no-stealth builds. Sword simply won’t be viable after December 10th. Period. If you like playing builds which are free kills for any decent player, be my guest. Any decent thief will be conforming to what we’re pigeonholed into and master the kitten out of it, and decent players still won’t know how to deal with it. This is a very skill based game. If you want to tell me exactly how a fight will go, baffle me with bullkitten.
I think you are exaggerating a little bit here, if you want to know the true meaning of unviable I recommend you to play elementalists for a bit, then you will realize how bad it is to have 0 viable builds and one that is somehow half effective, and only at killing stuff, because, unlike thieves, eles cant just stroll away with stealth when things go awry, so eles die in a blink after they unload their stuff (which mind you, has about 4x times the CD of any good thief skill).
Thieves will still be incredibly strong, they are merely nerfing stealth, and they even brought some of those changes coming on Dec 10 back, you took a 2 seconds nerf off 14 seconds I believe, thats nothing compared to eles which got 6 from 10, and the only way to get that buff was with 90 seconds CD skills……pretty much uncalled for if you ask me. No class in the game has to do the biggest sacrifices for some benefices than an ele.
Like I said, bad thieves will be the ones that wont be able to adapt, bad thieves were already the ones relying on stealth, and thats a good riddance, and to make it even worse, some theory crafter on the forum was saying that now you can still get nearly 95% stealth upkeep, you will excuse me, but thats still pretty much OP, so please stop the pity train already, nobody is buying it. Want to self pity? Play eles
This is laughable. I have an 80 ele who uses s/d, and it’s plenty viable.

Balance is already better than it was at launch. Also, every single profession forum has constant qq about all their undeserved nerfs, not just the thief forum.
If you made a thread in each profession forum to rate the 8 professions from best to worst, every single profession would rate themselves on average between 5th and 7th.
Right now the warriors can all concur that they’re on top with necros. So…
>>The idea should be to reduce the Thief’s reliance upon stealth for survival and then make stealth a much smaller aspect of its play style.
They are doing the opposite suggesting the thief ability to dodge too great thus forcing the thief to rely on stealth for survival.
Let me quote this for the pinnacle of truth. I don’t know what ANet wants us to do. I’d have loved to keep my s/p dodge build, but s/p was kitten as it was and now we’re being forced into stealth to keep up with every other class.
A lot of us participate in WvW! Myself? I tend to hop around. I’ve played on AR, SoR, JQ, BG, SBI, IoJ, CD, FA, and a few others.
Playing with the tag on is completely optional, though. When I do use it I like to call it WvW: Tribulation Mode.
Be nice to the little green engineer.
At least we know that ANET must pay their people well. The gem cost for all of these transfer must rack up!
They get free gems every month for things like world transfers, etc.

Each major balance update has shifted the classes for sure, but so far I’ve only seen class A become the best and Class B becoming the worst. Are we anywhere closer to true balance than we were at launch, aside from obvious exploits being fixed? As a thief I’ve seen our class go through the motions, and now we’re in almost a bad a state as warriors were before their emergence into viability. It might just be the constant QQ of the thief forums about how the class is nerfed constantly, but I’m failing to understand the direction the thief and other classes are headed with only limited to no niches in current top PvP teams.
Are we any closer to getting all classes on par with each other than we were 9 months ago?
’Cause charr can be female and thief too ^^
Oooh, what kind of dagger is that?
Moonshank. It’s cheap and arguably one of the best dagger skins.
Name a more alt friendly MMO then GW2, then you will have a point.
Running the world with a lvl 80 alt should not take you more then a weekend to open 75% of the WPs even if we assume you got lvl 80 by just doing the starter zone event grinding or crafting.
- GW1
Well you can do a lot in a zerg fight. Use your AoE attacks.
Shortbow for sure and the most important, among other things, keep your Daggerstorm when you see some downed players and enter with Shadowstep (utilitie) to finish them. This can definetly turn the battle outcome.
As I said in an other thred Thieves with the guard buff are very likely to keep playing thief.
Others that are leveling one now is very difficult to keep playing one .
Always speaking about WvW incase you haven’t figured it.Burst them down .Make them suffer
D/D – Sb FTWPS: I already have a 80 lvl full ascended c/c warrior lvl 90 wvw rank .It’s very boring to play with…..
do a lot in a zerg fight? srry i think you somehow got misdirected to the thief forum. and if u take my joke lightly plz show a video of you being “productive” in a zerg, and i mean moreso than any other class. without stayin on the edge pickon on strays. helping the zerg and not hiding.’
I’m in the same boat as hawkeye. People don’t get that thieves have a role in ZvZ, and that’s stealthing, teleporting in and taking out back liners before they can do any harm to your own zerg while the tanky initiators and front liners are protecting them. Ever see a staff ele go down in one hit? That’s why thieves are important in zergs. Sure, we aren’t tag-o-matics like staff guardians, but we are in fact blast finisher dumps, stealth machines and burst masters. We can do things that nobody else can do without getting focus targetted first. Use that.
ESO isn’t all that great. It’s literally a WoW clone with pretty graphics and improved AI, and is great if you want to play The Elder Scrolls with your friends. I wouldn’t worry too much if I were ANet about ESO or Wildstar. It’s EQNext we’ve got to watch out for, but until there’s been more information out on it we can’t conclude if it will actually be a good game or just another SOE money grab (see: PS2; Dragon’s Prophet).
(edited by Viking Jorun.5413)
Ok, let me try and see if I got this straight;
“If you have a melee weapon, spam dat #1” right?
If you have a ranged weapon and cant switch out of it (elementalist) then you are screwed, right? Further more, the thief is dumb enough to stay around melee range for 3-4 autoattacks instead of coming in quickly and doing their nice 14-16k Backstab…..sounds about right?
Im sorry but thats just a pathetic excuse to stealth currently, if the thief decides to run away there is no way a #1 will stop that. If a thief decides to come in quickly instead of hanging around you for 3 seconds then thats tactic is useless. How about you play other classes that dont need to relay in a cheap mechanic such as stealth, specialy in game where it has been done virtually uncounterable and that gives a lot more benefices besides the already strong invisibility?
Only bad thieves (most of them apparently) die to these cheap tactics. And I dont think that even if they were to somehow be effective, that these are the right way to approach this problem. How about we get some real counterplay here, like say, hard CC can know a thief out of stealth after a 1 second grace? Sounds like something that could lend to skillful plays
I run a full burst D/D spec and my backstabs generally only crit for 6-8k. You’re sorely mistaken if you think that we can hit you for over 10k if you have even remotely close to full exotic armor. My autoattacks generally hit for 1k, 1k then 2 2k hits. Again, you’re making it seem like we’re some sort of unstoppable killing machine when in fact we can be out-DPS’d by warrior and phantasm mesmer easily. We also have 3 seconds that we’re revealed after coming out of stealth.
I’d suggest doing your homework before having the audacity to vomit numbers in thief territory. Melee is surprisingly hard to “just get out of” when we’re only in stealth for a few seconds, so feel free to serenade me with these false accusations more. Rangers have plenty of AoE. That’s your best bet against a stealthed thief.
I’ll let the masses eat your post alive, and I advise you to do some actual research before making absurd claims for the class which is at the bottom of the totem pole in both PvE and PvP. How about we remove the bleed off of ranger shortbow and see how you feel, then make every one of your attacks a root? Sounds about fair for what you’re asking be done to the thief.
