When a player actually knows how to fight thieves it’s an entirely different ball game and a real challenge to come out on top. When you’re running burst it’s your job to pick off the inexperienced and under leveled to keep unnecessary pressure off of your allies. People will always whine when they’re insta-gibbed because a thief just hopped out of stealth and took them down in one rotation since they’re inexperienced, don’t know what dodging is and need to L2P.

Can I ask why?

That was last year, when I was on a full ride and had no financial obligations and had well over $60,000 in my checking account alone due to family circumstances. Now I’m more financially responsible and generally only drop $20 per month on the game, which actually goes much further than it used to before gem inflation occurred.

But what if new information comes to light? What if the majority of players like to grind?

You wouldn’t want your doctor or stockbrooker using outdated information.Why should ArenaNet be any different?

Yes, as a customer who likes the devs and game enough to spend roughly $800 to date, I want them to keep their integrity by sticking to their words.

Don’t act as if it’s not possible for them to follow through with their original design intent while catering to all types of players. Besides, if you follow the idea, players who like to “grind” will be able to for infusion upgrades and for the various forms of currency to obtain what they want. “Grinding” would still present, but there would be more available options that appeal to various gamers.

I’ve spent roughly $1600 on this game, don’t mind the vertical progression or grind. Tell me more about how entitled you are because you’ve spent a lot of money.

Actually, it costs no more computing power than simply rendering the models as they are. It’s all about what I explained earlier. I’m no programmer, but I can tell you that there’s no way to only render part of a single plane, which is what hair is made up of. I don’t know how you could program the system to do something which is impossible for a character artist to do without modeling hair specifically for each helm. Code can’t model for you.

well the only reason hair clips through is because there is no anti-collision physics. but anti-collision physics would be very expensive computationally due to there being so many hair strands. so in the future we’d be able to do it, but not now. practically all clipping issues can be solved by better physics but people want better textures, lighting, shading etc and don’t care as much for physics.

Hair is one or a series of joints painted into Havok Cloth which only reacts with constraints, movement and wind. Hair meshes aren’t “physics based”, and thusly you cannot expect to compress the meshes against the skull to appear at the underside of the helmet (I assume this is what you mean) and end up with less clipping issues than there already are.

Also, the underwater dragon’s minions are called the Sclerite, said to be corrupted, tentacled monsters. We get a teaser of this from the Strike at SouthSun meta achievement backpiece reward.

As a 3D character and environment artist actually in the field I can tell you that there’s no way to easily do it. They would have to completely remodel every hair mesh to allow the replacing of only certain planes, which just isn’t worth the development time. An alternative and more likely method would be modeling new hair for each helm in the game to replace the default hair mesh for each race, which again isn’t worth the development time. You just have to deal with it, because the only game who’s actually pulled off being able to keep portions of the player’s hair while having helmets is AdventureQuest Worlds, which is a flash based game and extremely simple to do due to layering. Modeling is an entirely different ball game and with the amount of helmets multiplied by 10 (5 races, 2 genders) that’s just not something you want to allocate your resources to.

No animation would make sense with out a quiver back item unless it was a bow that shoots laser beams lol.. Lots of games do that though. It’s just a development shortcut. At least there is the option to get a quiver back item, it’s just not easy..

I’m more concerned about the fact that ANET can’t make hats/helmets that don’t remove your hair lol. Every hat has some flap that covers the whole back of your head to hide the fact that your hair disappears. Pretty bad shortcut IMO. But anyways, back on topic.

They can easily make hats that don’t remove your hair, but most hairstyles would clip horribly through. Believe it or not it’s more aesthetically pleasing to have no hair than hair that comes through your hat..

You could do what TNO does and higher on a digital artist to create original fan art for your guild and members and pay them in gold. To give you an idea, TNO pays 8drawr (now inactive) 100g per hour-long concept piece. That’s what I was offered by them as well. If your guild has the cash from taxes or whatever, I’d say it’s definitely worth it to get your name out there and become more than “just a guild”.

I like this idea, I might implement this to work with our guild website, but I don’t see the practical application for something like that (especially for that price).

How much of this actually contributes to ArenaNet’s actual gem store sales? As a build I’ holic I can’t see bringing myself to buy these at the absurd cost, and would much rather pay 2000-4000 gems for a permanent one which acts more like the copper fed salvage-I-matic, and wouldn’t mind paying upwards of 20s per trait change. The items in their current state simply aren’t worth it in my opinion. Let me know what you guys think about them.

Yes it was funny see my thief clones shooting Ether Bolts. I can only imagine what my enemies must have been thinking.
“Oh what the? How is this thief shooting ether bolts”? " Oh nvm its just his clones". “What the heck this thief has clones”!!!
This isn’t only instance I have seen thief clones and I am surprised its hasn’t been brought up before.

We used to bring our warriors into WvW at the south camp and have 1 friend on an enemy server use scepter only during shield stance traited to reflect on block. After about an hour we could get about 100 clones of our warriors all standing at south camp. It was super hilarious.

ideas for you to get better
1. start p/d – you’ll have better armor 3k. and you’ll learn to hit cnd right. give you range perspective of the fight and more time to react and learn your enemy moves
2. after go d/d – i started with pvt armor and zerk trinkets and after a while change to pvc armor for more crit dmg
3. play defensive – as dont try to kill 1v1 rather that prolong the fight thus learning to manage initiative, react, learn moves when to dodge etc
4. ask ppl to duel you and to learn from it – after getting stomp by healing signet warrior i asked one enemy to deal and learn and he was really helpful . still he was better than me
5. start 1v1 till you do it perfectly. than go to 1v2. and as you can see most videos out there you probably wont see 1v2 against 2 d/d ele or hgh engineer as it too difficult to fight against . so learn your limits
6. when doing 1v2 again try to prolong the fight with stealth skills cnd etc to learn your limit . i find that after 15-30 seconds 1vx my enemies start to do mistake as they used all their burst skills
yesterday i tried with p/p set to do 1v3 (kitten impossible) and failed over and over and today i manage to do it againt engineer+warrior+thief (i was lucky)
7. practice at solo camps without stealth and only dodging and again with only stealth without dodging. it will give filling when to stealth and when dodge

sum it up: there is a reason why everyone QQ on thief – because player who learn how to really play this class can take anyone and thief imo is the hardest class to master but very rewarding

To add to this, I never EVER engage more than 1 tanky enemy, especially when they deal heavy conditions. As a thief it’s your job to take out the squishies, and they should be your highest priority since they pose the largest threat and also are the easiest to take down.

He used kill shot. It helps being a thief to fully understand the other classes and be able to call out which skills they’re using the moment the animation starts, and what that skill does. You constantly see thieves like Yishis calling out which weapon skill the enemy is using and why he’s doing what he’s doing to counter it.

You’ll also have to know your limitations. You can’t win every fight, especially those against multiple condition heavy classes such as necros and engineers who also have access to a multitude of stuns and CC.

D/D is a lot of fun. I have a few points of discussion:

- No vigor? I have a hard time not running 10 in Acrobatics to pick up Vigor on heal (combine with Withdraw and you have a lot of dodges), or going 20 into Trickery to pick up Vigor on Steal

- In SA, without picking up the Initiative on Stealth skill, are you able to maintain 10% damage buff from First Strikes (keeping initiative at 7+). This is a spot where the upcoming base init regen buff may really help

- I am a big fan of Furious Retaliation, especially in WvW. After the initial backstab, Fury is a pretty great way to finish them off

- Ever consider taking the 10 points in Deadly Arts and moving them to Trickery to pick up Fury/ Might/ Swiftness on steal? It makes your initial approach pretty deadly.

D/D is one of the few builds that is generally buffed by the upcoming patch. The biggest change in either direction for this build is probably the base initiative regen buff. I bet we see more people running it.

I’ve actually been seeing many more thieves running condition builds now with December 10th looming over. I’d like to stay away from the initiative on stealth skill as it’s getting nerfed with the upcoming balance patch. other than that, though, the build is quite powerful. I’ll play around with different trait combinations, but for the most part this is the base build, and you can tweak it to your liking.

I had the same issue. Go into your BIOS and disable the [fn] function key, which will cause you to have to hold down function to adjust your volume, screen output, help, etc but will give access to your f1-f12 keys.

So I’ve recently gone back to DPS, and due to the nerfs to D/P I decided that D/D was the optimal choice. Due to the initiative buffs coming December 10th I opted to NOT trait 15 into Trickery, and rather stuck with the default 12 initiative since it relies primarily on backstabs and CnD, and when managing your initiative properly makes for an already powerful setup.

Currently I have 4 daggers that I like to swap out, those being Leeching which I swap my Bloodlust out for after I have 25 stacks and my Night dagger which boosts my damage above Force by an extra 5% at night time. On top of the traditional options maintained by the build that most D/D setups have, I’ve gone ahead and chosen Life Steal food to reinforce the fact that this build does have healing power, mostly from the 30 points in Shadow Arts. I’ve also chosen Mug for this reason. I initially also debated runes of Vampirism, but ultimately decided on Traveler for the speed, which only maintained a minimal DPS drop (~3 damage per autoattack) over Scholar runes.

The moment I start my GW2 shortcut, I’m faced with the normal client image displaying “downloading 0kb” (the screen before the patch/login window) and it just hangs there. I’ve made sure that my shortcut is pathing to the proper location and that all files are in tact, and the problem persists. I cannot play until this is resolved, so help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Adding network diagnostic

EDIT 2: When attempting to run the -nopatchui command to bypass this screen, I’m given a message that reads: “Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 9 and an updated video driver”, however I’ve made sure that I have the latest NVidia driver and directX updates.

EDIT 3: Reinstalled the same latest NVidia Driver, able to login with no client issues.

If you guys remember back to fighting Mai Trin in the Aetherblade dungeon, she used an augmented pistol whip which did all that it does now as well as stacked about 5 bleeds on. I feel that if this were implemented into the real thing, it might just give s/p some of the viability it so desperately needs in competitive play.

I still find Melandru+lemongrass soup to be the absolute best WvW build using greatsword since you don’t have to worry about control conditions, and cleansing ire is enough to clear what conditions you do have to worry about. Running that with longbow is just amazing.

I was going to respond in a wave of sarcasm and put up some similar comparisons on “oh, I wish my warrior would have stealth” etc. But than I realized your post makes no sense.

- you are trying to take warrior traits and put them on a different class 0/10
- 100b is a channeled abillity that stops your movement and requires your enemy to be rooted, go and use this in WvW, tell me how you fared.
- warrior is gettting nerfed on december 10 both hammer and longbow, pls promise you arent going to lvl up til 80 than come to warrior forum and re-roll guardian because they are “op”
- no they do not have perma-fury

Running FGJ, Signet of Fury and axe offhand it’s entirely possible to maintain perma-fury in combat with 0 boon duration.

Alright guys, so I’ve done some testing, and you don’t need 4 pistols – only 2. I’m still testing it with the sigil of Generosity as they DO seem to share cooldowns, and not regain endurance from the Energy sigils on what seems like every other swap, and is a bit game-breaking. Looking into another sigil option for this. Condition builds aren’t a problem in any way, however in a prolonged fight with a burst-CC guardian (warriors aren’t an issue with their lack of blocks and sustainability as compared to guardians) you absolutely need a stun break. I’m debating killing Devourer/Skale/Inc Drake venom (the three are interchangeable) with Infiltrator’s Signet for increased initiative regain.

He means you only have 2 pistols equiped at any 1 time.
Set1 MH = empty OH = pistol
Set2 MH = pistol OH = empty

This set up ends up with p/p in Set1 and Set2 (no need for duplicate weapon set. But again, this is better used with quick pockets (highest ini/time at 3/9sec)

You only need 1 sigil of energy. You’ll still have that same off-hand pistol equiped when you swap weapons but the effect will still trigger. I did this with the build I used to kill Liadri and light up the dark. Only needed 1 Energy Sigil for 2x P/D.

You should only need 1 generosity sigil as well. Put one solo pistol in main hand with generosity and 1 solo pistol on offhand on other set with energy. The sets merge but still proc weapon swap sigils.

Can I get a source on how this works?

EDIT: do you mean just have 2 MH pistols and 1 OH pistol with generosity, and how when you don’t have an OH equipped but your second set does it uses the second set’s OH? I see how that could work and null the need for 2 of the pistols.

Generosity is a 10sec cd while energy is a 9sec cd. When you swap energy triggers placing generosity on cd. On the other side of this is when ever you activate generosity, energy goes on cd.

How so? They’re separate sigils. Sigils with cooldowns don’t all share the same one, generosity has its own cooldown and energy has its own cooldown. They’re not all on-swap sigils.

Then what would be the point of 2 of the same weapons sets? Your on swap sigils? You have 4 sigils that all share their cd’s ~_~

It takes 9 seconds to swap weapons each time you do so. I wouldn’t want to be caught without my Generosity in those 9 seconds with a necro.

Yeah but Assassin’s Reward is getting buffed and moved to the Grandmaster tier December 10th xP Quick Recovery also looks like it’s getting nerfed, so we can safely toss in Instinctual Response or some other trait there for the time being.

The new HtC would be a prime candidate for that slot.

Oh kitten , I missed HtC being moved to Master Tier. As someone who’s used to that trait, I can’t stress how important it would be to add to that slot.

You suppose to get Trickery 10 not CS 10 and pick up Trickster when it becomes Adept.

Then you can add Roll for Initiatives on your build. It’s mandatory when using P/P.

How so? With the upcoming initiative buff there won’t be a need for R4I, and in this meta the condition removal is far superior. I don’t see anything in Trickery 10 that would help this build or its purpose. Uncatchable, maybe, but if an enemy is so close that you have to cripple them to get away, you’re better off blind spamming them and taking them down.

Surprisingly though, this build works once you’re used to the wonkiness of it. Either that or my enemies are just dying of laughter. I like to think the former. Gotta make sure to keep swapping them pistols out.

So I’ve got another build and just wanted to have fun with it in light of the upcoming changes, and so today I bring you a build which combines everything the forums say is kitten about the thief, or broken (in a bad way) or just plain won’t work, and put them all into one single build – and it’s magical. I present kitten ’d.

It’s wonky, but an extremely cool build to play when timing your venoms correctly, and with December 10th coming this build will gain an additional 33% initiative regeneration and increased healing potential from Assassin’s Reward. Go ahead and try it out! I’ll try to get a video done within the next few weeks, once I grab the ascended weapons (darn time gating).

EDIT 2: Keep in mind this is meant as a team build. I pity the fool who thinks they can roam with it, and I’d knight the fool who could actually do it.

Wait for confusion to wear off while avoiding all attacks, attack the kitten out of them when everything’s on cooldown.

In WvW I run an axe+axe/LB DPS/condition hybrid with 3k armor, 500 condition damage and regularly maintains 10k eviscerates from bursts. The downside? No condition removal. It’s a great team build for when you’re running with a class who’s built to remove your conditions and buff your damage, but as far as solo roaming goes you’re pretty well screwed.
