I’m not 100% sure but i thought the story rewards were supposed to be adjusted. At level 55 I’m still getting blues which are pretty much junk. Is there a plan to actually make the story quests worthwhile?
The fix that is coming is in consideration of the time that we had to complete it. We are planning to rework some things when we have more time, but felt this would be sufficient for now, considering the first Qualifying tournament is tomorrow.
Fair enough and we’ll hold you to your word on this, good luck with the tournament.
Hey everyone! We have elected to “hotfix” the Necro and split Dhuumfire to bring it down a bit in PvP. This change will be in today, with patch notes in the usual place.
Thanks for the feedback!
This doesn’t fix anything regarding DS and your post in the Necro forum is extremely misleading!
I would just like to chime in with some of my PVE brothers and sisters, that this latest update has been a staggering blow to the PVE necro, which was not considered, and clearly is still not being considered in the slightest. No one wants necros for dungeons or fractals, due to bad DPS and terrible defense. I urge the devs to also read the PVE forums.
The necro may work fine in tPvP, but the PVE game vastly favors other classes, and does not favor condition builds in the slightest. The blow to Death Shroud especially has made it impossible for necros in PVE to have any defense against spike damage, such as all those one-hit kill bosses, or zergs in WvW.
Please read the PVE forums as well.
Don’t bother, they clearly don’t give two red pennies for our opinions, if so this thread would have been posted in the Necro forums or discussion forums. They’ll do what they think they need to do to get through tournament PvE players be dammed.

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that we’re watching this thread closely.
Really appreciate the constructive feedback, particularly yours, Phantaram. You seem to be analyzing from a very objective and unbiased point of view, which is very helpful."
Yep i have all kinds of faith that this will turn out well for all of us who PvE now!
This is flat out wrong on so many levels i cannot believe it is supported. I know you have visions of turning this into an E-sport but you cannot allow a small minority of your player base to dictate the outcome of a class in all areas of the game. I spent hours trying to revamp my character and planned on some weapon changes this evening which would have meant a gold investment only to see there could be more changes coming and voted in by what 5% of the total population?
" Allie Murdock.8152:
We’re kind of on a time crunch, so yeah
If we’re going to do any hotfixes before the Qualifiers this weekend, they need to be asap."
Bloody shameful if you ask me!
As someone whos never played necro before, could someone explain in simple terms why these patch notes are so bad?
I an genuinely curious, because to an outsider they dont look too bad (but like I said, I dont really know how necro builds work).
A couple major things, especially relating to death shroud-
First off, skills (1 on each weapon) can generate life force (LF). When a necro goes into death shroud (DS), the profession mechanic, damage taken reduces their life force instead of their health. When they run out of LF, they’re pushed out of DS into regular mode.
Now the changes -
Damage overflowing from LF to health:
Necromancers have generally poor access to ‘temporary invulnerability’ skills / effects. There is no mist form, obsidian flesh, vigor (for more dodges), skills with long evasion windows, or skills that block the next X attacks or attacks for X seconds. Hell, they don’t even have a projectile invulnerability skill anywhere, which I believe is an exception among all professions.
To cope with this, necromancers tended to use LF as that temporary invulnerability. Burning your entire LF bar (whether it be 50%, 30%, or a fortunate 10%) to block a one-shot wasn’t just a good response to big single-hit skills, it was practically the only response. Again, dodges / evades are available to Necromancers, as they are to every class, but there is no way to really invest in dodging / evading or any skill to take for brief windows of invulnerability.
Now however, using your hastily acquired 15% LF to tank a thief’s backstab isn’t a block / dodge roll, it’s just a bit of extra health to take the edge off.
So there’s been some complaints about how that was removed.Secondly: Spectral Armor / Walk internal cooldowns.
Previously, both of these effects gave 3% LF every time you were hit, and briefly were allowed to persist through DS. This made them excellent for soaking damage in chaotic XvX situations where there was a lot of minor chip damage flying around. Instead of getting worn down, a necro could coast through on the generated LF while sticking to DS.
With the internal cooldown / LF per hit changes, the focus is put back to 1v1. The skills won’t scale nearly as well against multiple opponents as they used to, though spectral armor will probably still feel very workable against single opponents. There’s a non-trivial contingent that holds necromancers can’t handle 1vX situations, so having an ability that fit that niche removed stings. That’s how I see it anyways. Personally I’m going to wait a few days and see how it plays out: the ‘bug fix’ for how much damage a necromancer could soak with Death Shroud is actually far more significant than I originally anticipated. If I’m correct in my observations and theories, post-patch DS can tank about 66% more damage than pre-patch DS. Which means that generating life force has become a significantly better way to soak damage than it was previously.
We want all weapon sets to have their uses, but it’s not necessary that all weapon types be equally viable in all given scenarios. In Starcraft, League, any shooter, etc., it’s not expected that ALL units/weapons/heroes be equally strong in ALL scenarios.
As different game types demand different “tools” from the classes, it stands to reason that some “toolsets” will perform better than others in a given game type.
:)
Oh this is all awesome, now why don’t you pop into the PVE side of things and explain how great these changes were, yeh i thought not.

With all the current MMO’s out there and those that are in development, GW2 can win the population lottery by following the plan Colin has laid out if;
• “As we recently announced, we’re up to four living world teams now, which means they will have a much longer development cycle later this year to build more polished content, and content that can be more impactful. (Colin J)”
This content continues to have depth and isn’t solely dependent on fluff or new shopping lists (limit the achievements). This keeps the world fresh and “Living”.
• “The Living World teams are only a small chunk of the total developers at ArenaNet, we’ll be going into details on what many of those other teams will be doing in a blog later this month. (Colin J)”
If by this he means permanent meaningful content releases and or sought after game mechanics then absolutely. This will appease those who want deeper more meaningful content.
• “We also have teams working on much longer term projects, which we will discuss when they are closer to arrival. (Colin J)”
If by this he is referring to an expansion then the July blog is the time to announce it and put the speculation to rest. This will give everyone something to look forward to long term.
I mean what other game out there could boast that they are committed to add regular content on a two week basis, accompanied by larger content releases (for argument’s sake let’s say every 6 months) and follow that up with an expansion pack (speculate 2 years from announcement date). This particular scenario would in fact be the most any MMO player out there could hope for and I believe this would make GW2 the legendary MMO all the creators and investors hoped it would be!
That’s my take on it and If my take is correct then let me be the first to say Colin, you are a frakin genius!
(edited by Vlad Morbius.1759)
This is my take….some temporary content is a good thing because it allows the face of the world to change constantly to a degree which keeps the world fresh and feeling vibrant and alive. Where this starts to become a very negative thing is with respect to content that is permanent yet temporarily available, this in turn gives the game the same grind like characteristics of games like WoW where if there is something you would really like is only temporarily available so if you miss a chance at it, too bad so sad.
GW2 is not there yet but it is beginning to feel more and more like that, almost to a point where, for me it is becoming a chore to stay on top of things in case i miss the one great item i would love to have, very similar to a work deadline. This leads to my next biggest concern, as a method used to earn money to keep funding the content i understand the need to make items for RNG or the Gem Store, but it seems like the balance between game content and items is becoming too skewed towards items and not enough permanent content to play over and over again.
I truly hope they don’t fall into that trap, the Living Story needs to be just that, a story of progression of Tyria and it’s inhabitants, not a shopping list of new items to get every 2 weeks.

I went back with other characters and still cannot access these npcs.
I found two npcs this morning in Bloodtide that don’t allow you to access the karma goods; Creator Zee and Professor Maciver. Not sure if these are the only ones.
I think ColinJohanson is such a phony name i mean really why not go Scarlet Sowannajohanson or Colin Sohansom…or hell I’d even buy ColinJohanson.#1234 cause that’s predictable but this whole 2394 must have a hidden meaning.. I’m sure of it! 2nd son if the 3rd daughter of a 94 year old mummy! Wait that’s it the expansion pack has mummies! Never mind maybe it’s bed time.
When you use the roast beef skill, and follow it up with Au Jus utility you get the FRENCH DIP combo.
It’s way overpowered btw and total BS and Anet needs to balance it.
And you know this how? Dammit I knew this was all one giant conspiracy…honest onion! You know me…I’m the lick on your taco shells.
Is this on the radar really?
This would be a fantastic thing and something that would add a lot more variety to the looks in the world and would compliment the best dyeing system in gaming today! Count me in as a full supporter of this idea, heck I’d even pay for the dyes in the gem store to get the right look! Don’t mistake that statement with RNG because that would defeat the purpose altogether.
Heck why not even add these to crafting which would add some value back to that whole system?
Not needed and if it ever is implemented then Anet seriously failed in their key objective which was to make an MMO that wasn’t gear dependent, period. If this happens, there will be a mass exodus of many players who came here to escape that whole elitist mentality.
P.S. in case anyone doubts the end result, how do you suppose sites like “elitistjerks.com” came to be.As far as I know, there are so many more “rage quitters” in this game. People in this game are more elitist than other game I played.
Oh, I never die so much in this dungeon. You guys sucks. Rage quit.
Not relevant, and neither is this stupid thread.

Old person…new to the internet is an oxymoron or is that too complex for you to understand. As far as ownership of the pixels in the game, what i do with them is my right as long as i do not break any of the terms of agreement and when i read them…yes some of us do that, nowhere did it say i must parcel out my character information to anyone named Jemmi or anyone else for that matter see for yourself; https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/
Also if “it” is bowing down to pressure from those of the me gen well I hate to disappoint you but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.It is not an oxymoron. Do you know what oxymorons are?
Oxymoron is a figure of speech that includes contradictory terms that appear in conjunction, such as “living dead” or “jumbo shrimp”The phrase “an old person who is new to the internet” does not have two contradictory terms in conjunction . Additionally, an old person can be new to something without it being contradictory.
For the link you provided me, the only mention of ownership is the following quote
You acknowledge and agree that no title nor any other form of ownership to the content has been or will be transferred to you from ArenaNet nor from anyone else
How about an old person who has been on the internet since it was first introduced, does that qualify as an oxymoron? Pathetic, old does not mean inexperienced of the internet. anyway the argument was entitlement and you nor anyone else has any when it comes to knowing anything about my character beyond the look i sport or the name i use.
First of all, you didn’t pay for my account, I did and that being said you have no business knowing anything at all about my account my characters my build my gear, anything. This whole need to know everything BS society makes me want to yak, who do you think you are that entitles you to know anything at all about me or the characters I play. I am sick to death with the presumptuous attitude of MMO players, stop with the false sense of entitlement; you have none when it comes to my characters!
Do you also try to stop people in the street from looking at you? No? Why not? They’re invading your “privacy” just as much. They certainly didn’t pay for your life! I don’t see you asking for the ability to just blank out your character so others can’t see it. Why not?
Did you know that in many societies you’re not legally allowed to hide your identity in public? Are you going to make an uproar and fight against that? No? Why not?
When you can answer that you’ll understand why your entire argument is simply dishonest bullkitten.
Well since i’m short on time and my tolerance for the ridiculous is at a low let me just say this. Can i stop someone from looking at me on the street, nope…they see what i’m wearing but have no clue as to what brand, size it is nor do they know what’s underneath that, if you think you have that right…go ahead and tear someones clothes off in public and see what happens to you LOL!
So in short your argument is as ridiculous as every other one you have put forth and I’m hoping the moderators bury this thread along with any notion of considering the need for a tool the community has long argued against.

The biggest problem, as has been mentioned a few times in this long thread, with an /inspect feature is the lack of privacy and user control.
What privacy? This is the stupidest argument possible… Am I “invading your privacy” when I look at your character in the game? I’m not reading your PMs or browsing through your inventory.
As mentioned before this isn’t like seeing through your clothes, it’s a pointing a machine at them that tells me what brand and/or material they are. You’re not even affected.
First of all, you didn’t pay for my account, I did and that being said you have no business knowing anything at all about my account my characters my build my gear, anything. My wife and I tried multiple times and just don’t have the reflexes we used to so we ended up with nothing but repair bills. That in mind I truly hope they haven’t been irresponsible enough to make this content necessary for the story to progress because if that is the case, they should hang their heads for thumbing their noses at the middle age and over player base, not to mention any potentially physically challenged players (details I don’t care to share here).

Totally ticked me off, i had him down several times and he popped back to full health, I’m done with this stupid glitched quest!
I was in and when i went to change character the screen went black and now unable to log in.
As I stated in another thread, despite the suspicious timing, the update did NOT contain any content changes. The changes to the Lyssa Temple event are totally unrelated.
Obfuscation, pure and simple.
I realize that the timing looks suspicious, but the maintenance update had nothing to do with the event change.
Good or bad, this patch or another, the change occurred and unless this is some new cosmic intervention in programming I’m not aware of, there are no patch notes to reflect it so people draw your own conclusions as far as honesty.
I was just about to start a post on this. I’ve been frequenting message boards for a very long time and this is the first major game board I’ve come across that doesn’t date stamp.
This drives me nuts when I navigate through the forums trying to determine whether something I’ve been following is current etc.
Please, please add this functionality!
Root cause…try; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_Whys
Title says it all, this is probably the 4th time on TC that this quest has been borked causing the Behemoth quest not to move forward. I’m not sure what the issue is but it’s pretty disappointing that the same issue crops up over and over again. Take a tip for a long time QA person….try some root cause analysis and get to the bottom of the issue please.
(Same “textbook” source as your quote.)
~MRA
I laughed at “textbook”, one for you, but I encourage you to search that textbook for whether or not that’s true; especially considering the state of the economy and a video game economy.
I for one don’t mind your input but I am not a fan of your condescending attitude and ridicule towards anyone who is not a student of economics, although you are right this is a video game you manage the economy for…so just how credible does that make you in the field of economics?
As i said in the first post it is an issue with the server volume today but the event might only last 15 minutes at a time but it would be 15 minutes of total chaos and excitement which i think would be a major boon to the game. There are many MMO’s today, this one was marketed as being different and it makes sense to invest in something that will set it apart from the others. I think this could possibly generate far more pay off then the cost involved.
A long time ago in a game that to me still is a brilliant design just outdated, Asheron’s Call, there was a very cool concept used many times which drove their storyline and created absolute chaos and joy whenever it happened. In a nutshell it was a dev controlled villain named Bael’zharon that would raid towns and areas of the open world and fight off the hordes of heroes that ran to defend the area. It was an amazing part of the game that since human controlled was unpredictable as well as an amazing challenge and his appearance caused a glut of excitement with hordes of people rushing off to join the battle. Usually at the conclusion of these epic battles, there were prizes doled out to the participants in one form or another that remained somewhat unique (not game breaking) Some of the best moments in AC’s history revolve around these encounters and to this day stands out in my memory as the single best moments for me in online gaming.
Now that I’ve given a little history lesson I was curious to know if this is something that is feasible to be added to GW2 in a more permanent way, as a method to breath real time excitement into the world of Tyria? I know this is far more difficult to do especially when comparing the size of this community vs. the size of all online communities back then, but I think at the end of the day the unscripted mega events like this would certainly gain some keen interest of many who have not yet experienced this kind of content and add a very cool feature to an already great game. I think it would also help to add some personal connection to the story lines which of late could really be used to regain the “give a kitten” factor from many in the player base.
To me nothing would be better than some unpredicted attack on the people of Tyria by a dev controlled villain run amuck making use of the waypoints and other components in the world to evade elude and terrorize. Can you just imagine the buzz this would create if it became a permanent part of how story lines unfolded in GW2?
Good points, but the reason we sometimes adjust the “unplayed” specs is to provide build diversity. Banners are one of those specs that we’re trying to adjust slowly to provide a whole new build for Warriors. This doesn’t mean we don’t care about other specs, we’re just trying to do things slowly.
And yes, Ranger spirits are in the same boat as Warrior banners. They were VERY powerful before ship, but after changes, they are on the lower end of the power curve right now. So they’ll be slowly adjusted over time to bring them back up as well.
The issue as I see it is this; why would you spend resources trying to do these kinds of things prior to fixing problems current builds have? I mean i understand that making other builds viable is important so not everyone is cookie cutter but can you really afford to risk the ire of the many and I mean many players who’ve waited for their builds to be fixed?
I don’t PvP much but i will tell you that all hope we had of bringing back many guild members who play warriors died and quite possibly for good with this patch, and for what…so you could make banners a possible useful build? I don’t want you to take this the wrong way but your priorities could well need to be re-adjusted because making potential customers happy doesn’t hold a candle to keeping your current ones playing. That’s all I have to say on this whole debacle.
We have already asked for clarification on this and they shoved the thread into players helping players which i think is pretty silly. Do they honestly expect players to spend 800 gems to gamble and find out rather than just have a developer clarify this ambiguous description, if so i change that from silly to sleazy.

Tarnished Coast is down as well.
Guesting has exacerbated the problem and it not playing a factor is blind nonsense. The loot parameters were upped which brought people back into the open world on heavy servers like TC, but the added strain of guesting plays a huge role in making many of these events unplayable.
Nerfing the loot won’t fix anything because it’ll drive people away from the game, the fix would be to either add a fee to guesting or to outright prevent guests from being able to loot more than one chest per dragon regardless of server they might play on. Chests from events should be set as one per day, per character, per account regardless of what server you decide to do the event, problem solved.
I’m curious…what exactly did you learn from the fractals debacle again?
Influence costs should be based on the size of the guilds, representation and active members, this is the only way to ensure fairness. Some people enjoy being in smaller tight knit guilds and as such shouldn’t be punished for it.
Influence cost should be adjusted based on player representation and the size of guilds, this is the only way to ensure fairness.
I’ve read the notes for February and it mentions the ability to choose daily quests as of the next patch but i see no direct mention of monthly in the statement, is it implied or are we waiting until March for this?
@Vlad – Did your wife get the exotic from a chest/box or from corpse loot? I have yet to see an exotic and the boxes aren’t working for me yet
I can’t confirm if the exotic came from a box because the boar was laying there and she just hit the F key. I know that when I looted it the boar disappeared and I received a blue which i think was on the body. As for the rare I got from a spider it was off the body and not a box, that I’m sure of because the box is bigger than the small spider I killed and would have stood out.
I am not saying anything has changed because once again this was a very rare find for both of us and it might have been associated with the new build and reset. Not sure if any of this helps but I thought I would clear it up for you.
Were the rare and exotic drops in chests? Did the blue from the champ drop in a chest?
The exotic my wife got dropped of a boar champion in Queensdale, i got a blue off of the ame boar. The rare i got dropped off a normal spider and the green i got was from a wooden chest off another random creature.
Well I’ve just noticed that the recent patch notes say they have adjusted the loot drops in Orr but don’t say up or down so i suspect that will mean down though i cannot imagine handing out more porous bones lol!
On another note i found a rare off a spider and got a wooden chest that dropped a green and the wife just got a level 80 exotic torch off a champion boar in Queensdale, i got a blue.
And I will owe Vlad and others my apology for being naive. (If I am wrong I’ll freely make that apology in this thread.) Hopefully that won’t be necessary though which is why I’m still here.
I’m not looking for an apology from you, what I want is Anet to fill in the blanks regarding these critical issues. They called this a “perceived” issue putting the blame back on us for what was obviously a result of their actions (intentional or not), they locked the original post with no information which was tantamount to calling us all delusional, they implemented DR as a control for botting which has negatively impacted their honest player base, they have manipulated the economy steering people towards the gem store for gold and they have chosen to be mostly silent on the subject for two and half months. So frankly if anyone owes us an apology…..
(edited by Vlad Morbius.1759)
John Peters, Game Designer (October 5th 2012)
(http://www.guildwars2junkies.com/tag/diminishing-returns/)Quote 1 - “Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.”
Quote 1 rebuttal - Right now and since October 5 2012, many players cannot do this!
Quote 2 - “Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game…”
Quote 2 rebuttal - ‘Some’ is currently a serious understatement.
Quote 3 - “…it’s not our intention that normal players should ever run into them.”
Quote 3 rebuttal - Many players are running into them, very often and very early during their gameplay.
Quote 4 - “…we’ll fix those (bugs/imbalances).”
Quote 4 rebuttal - It has been well over 3 months now since you commented on this John. How much more time do you need?
Quote 5 - “It’s important to have a safety net in place. It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously.”
Quote 5 rebuttal - Players do this anyhow – FotM. Currently the only reasonable reward system within this game (in their opinion). Also, it sounds like those players would be getting all of the rewards which are projected globally (i.e. to everyone within an area/map/zone/server). Players will do things within the game that makes them feel they are rewarded accordingly, and in many situations it has caused ANet to nerf it.
Quote 6 - “When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.”
Quote 6 rebuttal - So the best way is to nerf the rewards for that activity? Rubbish, in the end this will make all of the activities unrewarding and cause its reward/goal to be pushed further back in relation to time spent. Also, it sounds like the other reason for DR is to have the reward system more balanced – which, apparently, is not what DR was functioned to do. “Two birds with one stone.” as the saying goes.
Quote 7 - “…we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.”
Quote 7 rebuttal - This (DR) has effectively done the opposite to what you are saying. I want to farm lodestones. I effectively can’t. I want to farm karka shell. I effectively can’t. I want to farm "X’ item. I EFFECTIVELY CAN’T, BECAUSE OF DR! These are all reasonable normal game activities within an MMO, and one cannot effectively do it because of this AND the fact that RNG is involved.
Quote 8 - “Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cut-off. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out. Please bear with us while we gather more data and lower the safety net until it’s only providing critical economy protection.”
Quote 8 rebuttal - I would presume that “time” is one of the cut-off variables. Bumping into the edges of this system is what players continuously do. Furthermore how long are we to ‘bear with you’ on this issue? I really hope that the upcoming update fixes this, otherwise you can say goodbye to a large portion of the player-base.
Quote 9 - “I hope this helps to explain why a game like this needs systems such as this to protect its economy. I also hope it gives some insight into our philosophy about botters (BAD) and exploiters (BAD) vs. farmers (GOOD). Thanks for your support and we will see you in game.”
Quote 9 rebuttal - It sure does help explain why you have employed DR into this game, but, it does not help the games cause, and it has not for over 3 months.
Am I the only one who thinks that ANet is using DR for more than just against botters? Within Johns post there are some clear indications how DR works and why its there – which correlates to how loot drops (should) occur and how this helps the TP work as ANet intends it to.
Furthermore, ANet’s motto ““Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.”, clearly falls apart whilst DR has been implemented. The sheer number of complaints about this issue and lack of adequate resolve for over lengthy period clearly indicates, to me, that ANet is incapable of tackling this issue.
GG ANet.
Customer base have done their part these last 2 and a half months….what have you done?
