Don’t worry, people who don’t care about raids are getting these awesome events that are basically zergs… ugh.
Some people refuse adamently to pay with RL money. They want accessibility or they will complain. Some kids may not have a CC and need an avenue to purchase items in the gem store to be even. With these prices to date, I generally don’t hesitate with the CC when I feel I ‘need’ something.
Atm I really want those aviator sunglasses, they finally returned, but I just spent 1200 of my 1500 gems, and maxed out my CC on pax tickets. So I’m S.O.L
For some it isn’t about refusal. It’s about the ability. If I could spend money like crazy to get gems I would in an instant, but right now the exchange is my only reliable way to get gems and it’s being destroyed by super rich people who have possibly 1000’s of gold to toss away. Most people don’t and are getting screwed over by this.
By the time I get the real money to buy gems needed for a cool skin they brought back it will most likely be gone again because reasons so it feels like some people can’t ever get a leg up or even a foothold with this thing. :\
It’s getting to the point of ridiculousness. Why even have an exchange if most people will not be able to ever afford it.
Awesome that the gold to gem exchange is getting even more ridiculous. Rich get richer situation. Not everyone has money just laying around to spend $10 for one skin which is basically what it is.
Edit: Not talking about the sunglasses.
That is horrifying. I must find it. :P
I really want the broomstick but I’m saving up for more important things like extra storage space and whatnot. :\
Anyone else annoyed by the lack of Sylvari in the new group? Destiny’s Edge was a big deal because it had 1 of each race, but the new group has 1 Norn, 2 Humans, 1 Asura, and 1-2 Charr (depends on if you count Rytlock as a core member or just a DE member tagging along) and 0 Sylvari. I thought they were setting up Canach to end up joining the group but that never materialized.
I don’t mind having more than 1 (Especially with the Kasmeer-Marjory dynamic), but I hate not having any Sylvari at all. I really think this needs to be addressed; it leaves Sylvari fans feeling left out of the new group dynamic and seems to marginalize the race that was so core to the story. It also leaves the Sylvari elements of the story feeling left out; just imagine what would have gone on with a Sylvari member during The Call that instead got addressed only from the outside.
To be fair and while you have a point, that’s pretty much how Non-Sylvari players have felt for a long time.
LS1, LS2, Expansion, all based on sylvari. Can we move on to the other races now?
Not to mention being told in GW2 launch that the Sylvari were focused on Zhaitan, the great hero of the Orr storyline was a do-no-wrong Sylvari with a cardboard personality,, and humans got sidelined by Sylvari when visiting their holiest of lands.
This is true. I was very disappointed that the story of Orr was dominated by a Sylvari.
Gotta organize a bit but it’s not impossible. Have some people running Essence constantly until the big guy is at your side, then defend it from Inquest until they lose hope. The little machines are the ones you gotta focus on, they are super fast. The big ones can be ignored for a bit because they are so slow. The little golems usually run in packs so AoE is excellent for taking them out. Also if you have Mesmers tell them to use their stun shatter, it helps when they are tightly packed.
Exactly that reason. We want our animations back and seeing Asura get an update to theirs and Sylvari still swingin’ their arms around grinning like fools while ours were called “immersion breaking” is ridiculous. :P
I’ pretty sure asura never actually got an update to their animations.
Well you need to look again.
I have looked. the whole head scratching thing isn’t new.
The facial expressions have been updated. They no longer ‘stare’, but now squint.
Yes, they are much more expressive now and look pretty good but the point remains. We want our stuff back.
Change was unneccessary. Finished all 4 achievements on first evening without much trouble. I also did not see any kind of toxic behaviour that went above what you see every day.
Then you were incredibly lucky. Perhaps you should hang out at the Mystic Forge.
The way to solve that problem is to find a laid back guild that doesn’t freak out when things go sour.
I’m having success with mine solo capturing small points on the map. Just have a lot of escape utility skills like Blink and such for when meanies come knocking.
I know people are done with Sylvari because they’re everywhere, but we still miss Malyck and his Tree in story (btw it was cut from HoT story due to time deadlines) and there are still covered maps in the Jungle… We cannot just ignore that and go to Crystal Desert…
I do like Canach, but I felt that special bond with Trehearne, because he was my friend and Canach is sarcastic kitten – I am playing sylvari btw.
Well, we’ll see if he joins us or leaves us to his own business.
I’d prefer when he leaves us and we find Malyck finally, meet his tree and get all information about what happened with Sylvaris after Mordy’s death, then finito and let’s move to Rata Novus!
I actually liked Trahearne despite my joke earlier. He seems like the only one that was really your friend in this. At least that’s how I felt.

1) The biconics are not mary sue characters. May Sues are defined by a lack of flaws and how everything always goes their way.
It could be worse, but there is a bit of Mary Sue going on with the biconics, especially Kasmeer and Taimi.
While both of them are introduced as characters with some degree of challenge in their life or background, rarely does either actually face setbacks or have to deal with compromise or challenge as a result.
While Kasmeer is introduced as losing her status and class, she doesn’t look like a street urchin, she remains one of the most elegant characters in the game. She landed rather comfortably right away with a job and a home so we never see her truly struggle after losing her wealth and social status. Even a show like Two Broke Girls is a more realistic portrayal of the life of someone like Kasmeer who loses everything and is thrust into a lower class without the upbringing giving her the skills to handle that. We are told she lost her wealth and her security but all we ever see is a beautiful woman living comfortably in a world where that’s not a realistic outcome.
Secondary to this, or perhaps even worse, the only demonstration of her loss of social status is a random person doesn’t announce her with a title at a social function. We see she still has a relationship with Logan, Captain of the Seraph and the Queen’s partner, we see she has a relationship with Anise, and she even joins the royal escort in the World Summit that Kasmeer herself helped negotiate by writing a letter directly to the Pale Tree. The gravity of losing your social status and your class is completely lost when the reality is Kasmeer has privileged access to some of the most powerful people in Tyria but her background is supposed to suggest the opposite.
Why write that a character is an alcoholic if you’re never going to show that character struggle with their alcoholism? Kasmeer’s flaws are really faux flaws – superficially they make her sound interesting but throughout the story they are barely present. Which is more interesting – an alcoholic that tells you they are an alcoholic but never in the story does that present a challenge for them, or one that loses their family and job because they couldn’t control their drinking? Kasmeer is the former, it’s window dressing but it’s not her lived in reality.
With no field experience prior to her introduction, Kasmeer holds her next to seasoned fighters like Braham, Marjory and Rox, going as far as to surpass them during the season one finale with Mesmer Sue powers. She does this multiple times throughout the story, including being specifically summoned herself by some authority on mesmers because of how fantastic a mesmer she is.
It’s a similar theme across many of the biconics – Rox is the lowest class of charr but has privileged access to one of the highest ranking charr, Rytlock. She gets the honour of ambassador to Kryta for the Queen’s Jubilee and she’s trusted with important tasks such as taking on Scarlet. Even after disobeying orders, she retains privileged access and has more autonomy than most people would in a military culture like the charr. She isn’t stationed on watch duty, she doesn’t have to clean out the cow dung, she isn’t “shipped off to Siberia” as a punishment, she continues to be a part of the charr military hierarchy while working side by side with some of the most elite people in Tyria.
When bad things happen, the consequences are either superficial or short lived, or the bad things happen to people around them. Marjory’s sister’s death is a bad thing that happened to Belinda not Marjory, if Marjory had become an alcoholic in her grief, or a ruthless necromancer indiscriminately killing sylvari to take down Mordremoth – then she would have real flaws, all we see did was disappear for an episode and act slightly more suspicious of sylvari than everyone else.
The flaws these characters possess hold little to no power in their lives, it’s just window dressing to give the appearance of a more compelling character. The characters themselves rub shoulders with important people, get to go on important missions, are successful at almost everything they do, and unlike Destiny’s Edge – they haven’t paid a price like the defeat against Kralkatorrik and death of Snaff. The idea itself isn’t bad, the execution just didn’t utilise it. Their flaws don’t weigh them down, they rarely challenge or obstruct them, they act as window dressing to make it seem like these people are exceptional because they accomplish things even with “flaws”. That’s why they come off as Mary Sue to many people.
That is the best summation of these characters that I’ve read. Sometimes to me it feels like A.net falls in love with their “pet” characters and is against having anything truly bad happen in their lives or to them. They must always be successful, must always have other NPC’s tell them how great they are, and they must always be able to overcome any odds. While that’s not a bad thing, when that’s all there is, it feels shallow and more like fan-fiction than actual characterization and storytelling. You could say bad things happened to all of them, but as you stated here, it really didn’t. Nothing changed in their lives really, it was almost an annoyance, a slight bump in the road that was never followed up on because it would detract from their magnificence.

Counter request- can we get a new animation that isn’t tailor-made for dudes to ogle? Like a normal person stretch or weight shift, or hands on hips something, anything besides the old abomination?
Hey, I thought it was cute and adorable and I am not a dude. Women are allowed to be sexy and kinda silly at the same time.
If you want to go that route then there are about 90% of the Light Armors/Outfits out there that should be deleted as well. Nothing wrong with sex appeal at all.
Is that why my game is randomly freezing as if it’s loading stuff every now and then? It has never done that before.
Levelling to 80 is a chore with Mesmer but once you start getting Traits it gets much easier and much more fun.
I mostly used a Staff because of the bouncing and your clones add to the conditions that just melt early/mid game enemies. It’s not real flashy and doesn’t appear to do much but with all your clones using staff attacks and stacking those conditions, you’ll go through battles quickly.
Also use your shatters once you get them and remember that you get a shatter effect centered on your character as well, sometimes it’s good to fire them off if you’re in a dire situation… your own shatter can save your life at times.
I’m not pro Mesmer, just relaying my personal experience getting to 80.
After two seasons and an expansion of sylvari lore, sylvari social structure, sylvari origin stories, sylvari chosen ones, sylvari pact generals, sylvari secrets, sylvari island adventures, sylvari betrayals, sylvari villains, and sylvari redemption, I’m perfectly happy to let them be less in the spotlight for a while.
At this point I’m about sylvari’d out. There’s no Tyrian equal opportunity law that says every guild requires an equal scoop of races. If there were I wouldn’t be surrounded by Asura with only the occasional normal sized person at every guild function.
Agreed. Enough with the salads already. Their spotlight hogging days should be over.
“Name this team of legendary heroes! They will go down in history as—what? Oh… you were there too, I guess. But let’s be honest, this is their spotlight, not yours. Now step aside while they take the credit for all your hard work.” :p
“Trahearne’s Legacy”
Nailed it!
Exactly that reason. We want our animations back and seeing Asura get an update to theirs and Sylvari still swingin’ their arms around grinning like fools while ours were called “immersion breaking” is ridiculous. :P
No kidding. It’s time to put them back and stop this nonsense. It seems every other race is allowed to have their cutesy idles except Human Females.
I’m going to try that, I have quite a few of those things just sitting in my bank. Thanks for the tip.
I noticed this last night as well.
I’ve been exploring Orr and trying to do map completion there but there is one place that is impossible for me to reach. Something Balthazar where there’s a hero point behind something that spawns infinite number of Risen waves… someone on Map chat said it’s impossible to get to without doing pre-events first but no one was there to do any of these events.
:(
In a sense I’m thankful for the speed demons who know it by heart because I just stop and watch them. They show me the way.
I totally get nervous around them. I just lose all sense and patience, and turn into this 4th gear wannabe parkour pro – who inevitably fails over and over.
Then I see others who are like dancing through the JP at the speed of light like it’s no big deal.
To each their own
Haha, I know that feel too. I’m baby stepping through one and then some sparkly gymnast just floats through every jump like a professional. It’s kinda funny to me in a way.
We’re not judging. We’re all actually waiting with baited breath hoping you’ll make it. JPs bring out a comraderie in people.
I’ll try to look at it that way.
Even if you’re fibbing.
When there are a lot of people camped at the end point? I’m not real great at them in the first place but seeing a blob of people there watching… judging… I just get nervous and start to mess up a lot. :P
Does this happen to anyone else?
I had a better topic title but 45 character limit… x.x
I always feel like I move too much. I’m always circling enemies I’m focused on. I guess that’s better than being a statue. x.x
Human Females cried out in unison… “Remember us?!”
Apparently the Asura idle animations got updated somewhat recently according to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4m3p8q/unmentioned_idle_animation_changes/
WHY are Human Females still being ignored again?!
I always saw my character as being like “You guys are useless, I got this.” when dealing with DE. >.>
Kinda fitting because it applies to these cringetastic new people as well.
I did 5 events and got one. I thought it was bad needing 15 but then I saw to complete the achievement you need 30!
Unless this changes looks like I won’t be bothering. :\
I voted for “Dragon’s Watch”. Sounded the least lame, as Vyrulisse mentioned. But then, I really am finding that I am not caring about these new characters whatsoever, even after going through all LS up to the beginning of HoT. Destiny’s Edge are far superior characters, IMO. And Rox’s face looks…weird. Like a cartoon, and not a GW2 Charr. What’s up with that?
Agreed. They look like caricatures more than actual characters for the most part.
I went with Dragon’s Watch, it sounded the least cheesy.
Needs to be personal drops for you. Basically promotes just ignoring the event and watching for bundles to steal. Also the events are over way too quickly.
Eh, it probably depends on the people. I’ve had world boss fails that were actually kinda funny with people doing the “cry” emote and mock consoling each other and I’ve had that guy that rages at everyone but himself.
I will say personally I don’t pay attention to map chat too much, if someone addresses me and asks me to do something other than what I was planning to do, I’ll usually comply. That’s only if they ask me like a person and not some game piece to be moved around their personal board.
We should pick someone else other than the walking meme. >.>
I just want the game to respect my decision to stow my pet. If I put it away, I want it away until I choose to bring it back out. Not when taking damage or entering combat.
It’s annoying at jumping puzzles for example where if you take the slightest fall damage your pet pops out and trait buffs activate.
I loved them both but I like Elona a bit better so I hope that’s next if they do. Just leave out Istan please, Nightfall has me mentally scarred with that area and I never want to see it again. :P
I’d just love more sliders in character creation. I mean come on. x.x
It’s dastardly, yes, but it’s a good business strategy. It encourages the “buy now” mentality, creates a sort of artificial scarcity, so to speak.
That’s not to say it’s convenient for the consumer, but I understand why they do it.
It doesn’t make it right, it’s rather slimy in a sense. They made these things they should keep them available. Not everyone was here Day 1 and not everyone has cash on hand to dump into gems at a moment’s notice.
No, it’s put the game on the path to where it needs to go. It hasn’t fixed everything but it’s a right direction.
If we ever get to Bubbles I imagine underwater will be a big deal so they should fix it now instead of waiting.
GW1 had build templates you could use to quickly switch builds/attribute setups at will and you could share them between friends and save them on your PC. I would love this functionality to be brought over and I’m not sure why it isn’t. It would be heaven to be able to switch trait setups on the fly (out of combat of course)
My only complaint is that I do not like the Gem Store Interface. It feels clunky to navigate. I’m also not a fan of artificial rarity, if you make something, keep it in there. :P Or, decide on certain items that you will never remove and share the list with the community so that we know what we might have to rush for and what we can take our time getting.
Maybe not the greatest business sense, just something I’d like.
Thank you, while I’m not sure if that fixed it because I’ve already gone beyond that, I did not know the repair option existed and I’m pretty sure after some years a repair was long overdue.
During the late stages of the quest “The Commander” when you assume the disguises to act like bandits and hide in the dungeon cell, everything is fine up until the dialogue starts and nothing happens. I tried waiting about 5 minutes the second time and nothing occured there. I had to skip the dialogue to progress but that only had another issue. I could play and finish the quest but the enemies never really spawned.
It’s hard to explain. They spawned and I could fight them but everyone was invisible, the graphics never showed up. After that battle, the next cutscene/dialogue didn’t show up and I had to skip it as well. Now the quest can be finished and the rewards still show up, so it’s not gamebreaking, just weird. I included two screenshots to hopefully show what I’m trying to explain.
